Kirk is standing in front of the Crevasse between the Blue Barracudas and the Purple Parrots. ?Welcome back to Legends,? he says. ?Now?s the time when the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest, so let?s get to know these fast, strong teams.? He turns to talk to the brown-haired boy on the Blue Barracudas. ?On the Blue Barracudas we have Brett. How old are you??
?Thirteen,? he replies.
?Now I understand you like swimming but you also collect pencils,? Kirk says. ?Are these sharpened pencils or???
?No, I never sharpen them,? Brett replies.
?How many do you have?? Kirk asks.
?Um? good question, I think about fifty??? answers Brett.
?I guess you?ll wanna count again to make sure,? Kirk says as he goes to interview the somewhat taller brown-haired girl on the far left of the screen. ?And also on the Blue Barracudas, we have Mandy. Tell me how old are you??
?Fourteen,? she replies, barely having to look up to talk to Kirk.
?And now you like reading,? says Kirk, reading off of an index card, ?your favorite book right now is Great Expectations, but tell me about how you almost beat your school?s 50-yard dash speed record.?
?Well,? Mandy explains, ?we had Field Day last May last year, and one of the events was the 50-yard dash, I finished first, and they said I tied the school record.?
?And what was the time on that?? Kirk asks.
?6.6 seconds,? Mandy replies.
?Were you out of breath afterwards??
?Yeah.?
?These guys are definitely gonna be a fast team,? Kirk comments. ?Let?s hear it for the Blue Barracudas!? Brett and Mandy clap along with the audience as Kirk goes to talk to the tall boy just right of the middle of the screen. ?And on the Purple Parrots, we have Joe. And how old are you??
?Fifteen,? Joe replies.
?And you play basketball but you also collect baseball cards,? Kirk says. ?How big?s your collection??
?About 500 cards,? replies Joe.
?And what?s your favorite team?? Kirk asks.
?The San Francisco Giants,? Joe answers.
Kirk then goes to interview the strawberry blond girl on the far right of the screen. ?And? Mikayla, how old are you??
?Twelve,? she answers.
?And you like to dance and you also collect necklaces,? he reads. ?You have a favorite??
?Yeah,? she replies, ?it?s this pinkish gold one, it?s like my hair, and it has a blue tear-drop jewel in the front.?
?Sounds pretty,? Kirk says. ?Let?s hear it for the Purple Parrots!? Joe and Mikayla applaud along with the audience.
?You guys ready to play?? Kirk asks.
?YEAH!? The players shout a response in unison.
?Okay then, so go get ready for the Temple Games,? Kirk says, pointing in different directions, and the players walk offscreen. ?Here?s what?s gonna happen here. In the Temple Games, teams are competing for?" he opens a pouch and pulls out a small gold medallion to show to the camera? "Pendants of Life. There?s three Temple Games? um, they?ll need those Pendants to protect them from the dreaded Temple Guards as they make their way through the Temple. Olmec, tell us about Temple Game #1.?
Olmec begins:
?Robert Hooke?s less well-known discoveries included the properties of a spring. However, it might have still been a big enough discovery to earn him money, and in this game, you will also use a spring to earn money. When Kirk gives the signal, jump up, grab a coin off the ceiling, and come back down to place it in your bin. Then, jump back up and do it again.
?The first player to grab all the coins? or the player that?s further along after 60 seconds? wins.?
The camera fades to Kirk. ?So I guess money doesn?t grow on trees anymore,? he says. ?Now it grows on the ceiling. Anyway, let?s put 60 seconds on the clock.? The clock then appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen. ?On your mark, get set, GO!?
Joe and Mandy jump up and start reaching for the coins. Due to his height, Joe can grab the coins much earlier than his opponent can. He manages to get all twelve coins off the ceiling with 26 seconds left, while Mandy is still reaching for her ninth.
?Oh, that?s it!? Kirk shouts, running over to declare the winner. ?Purple Parrots got all their coins first, giving them a half Pendant of Life!? The audience applauds for a moment. ?Blue Barracudas can catch up in the next Temple Game, it?s also worth a half Pendant. Olmec, tell us about it.?
Olmec continues:
?Robert had the microscope he was going to use in his famous experiment at hand, but if he didn?t, he might have had to make one himself. In this game, you will grab the four lenses you will need to make your own microscope. When Kirk gives the signal, crawl into the first cube, grab the first lens, then crawl back with it and place it in your bin. Then, go back to get the next lens. Along the way, you will have to avoid the swinging obstacles.
?The first player to grab all four lenses? or the player that?s grabbed the most lenses in 60 seconds? wins.?
The camera fades to Kirk. ?Okay, time to make some microscopes,? he says. ?Let?s set the clock for 60 seconds.? The clock now appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen. ?Let?s get the sandbags back in position, and then let?s start swinging them.? The spotters on the sides do just that. ?On your marks, get set, GO!?
Brett and Mikayla crawl out immediately, but Brett gets hit by a sandbag early on each of the first three tries. Mikayla, on the other hand, manages to grab the first lens on her first try and bring it back, even if she moves a little slower than Brett. Brett is a bit more cautious on his fourth try, and he brings back the first lens with 34 seconds left? just a second or two after Mikayla reaches her third lens. But Mikayla waits a few seconds before beginning to crawl back with it. Brett gets a couple more lenses and tries to make a comeback, but his repeated collisions with the sandbags kept him from getting the fourth lens before Mikayla got hers with 0:13 remaining.
?All right, that?s over!? Kirk announces, running over to declare the winner. ?Purple Parrots got all four of her lenses back before time ran out, so that gives her the half Pendant of Life!? The audience applauds again. ?So the Purple Parrots have a full Pendant, the Blue Barracudas yet to score, but this next game is worth a full Pendant. Olmec, tell us.?
Olmec narrates:
?Like all scientists, Robert Hooke would have to use the scientific method during his experiments. On the wall before you are the four major stages of the scientific method: Inference, Hypothesis, Data Collection, and Conclusion. When Kirk gives the signal, load the slingshot and fire a ball, and your partner will catch the ball and stick it on the first stage. Once you?ve covered a stage, it means it has been completed, and you can climb up and to complete the next stage.
?The team that completes all four stage first? or the team that?s further along in 60 seconds? wins.?
?This one?s for the Temple,? Kirk says. ?Blue Barracudas need it to tie. Let?s put 60 seconds on the clock.? The clock appears onscreen. ?On your mark, get set, GO!?
Mandy and Mikayla each load their own slingshots and take aim at the targets labeled ?Inference.? Both cannonballs slip right out of their slingshots before the slingshots are released, then the girls reload.
Mandy catches a ball and covers ?Inference? on the third try with 0:46 remaining, but it takes Mikayla five tries and 24 seconds to get Joe to catch the ball and stick it on the first target. Then, Mikayla keeps missing Joe again, while Brett covers ?Hypothesis? and then ?Data Collection? after catching two balls in a row. Joe manages to cover ?Hypothesis,? but it?s too little, too late, as Brett covers the target at the top marked ?Conclusion? with just eight seconds remaining. Kirk runs over to give the summary.
?Okay, Blue Barracudas got all four even before time ended,? he comments. ?That gives them a full Pendant, and we?re all tied up. Let?s bring out the tiebreaker!?
The players run over to the tiebreaker pedestals and stand behind their gongs as directed by Kirk. ?Okay, here?s the tiebreaker rules. In a minute, Olmec is gonna ask you a question. If you think you know the answer, I want you to hit the gong in front of you. We must accept your first response. If you?re right, you and your partner will be going inside the Temple, but if you?re wrong or run out of time, I'll give the other team a chance. All clear?"
The players nod in response.
"Okay, Olmec!" Kirk shouts. "What?s the final question??
Olmec asks:
?Robert Hooke was raised in which of these countries: France, England, or Germany??
Mandy hits the gong and guesses: ?England???
?That? is? correct,? Olmec replies, and the Blue Barracudas hug for a second as Kirk declares a winner.
?They fought hard, came from behind,? Kirk says, ?and the Blue Barracudas are goin? to the Temple!? Mandy high-fives Brett once with each hand. ?Purple Parrots gave it a gallant effort too, it came down to a tiebreaker. Here?s what we?ve got for them.? Joe and Mikayla will each be receiving a small prize package from Reebok.
Kirk is standing behind Brett and Mandy at the tiebreaker pedestal. ?And now we?ll see if the Silver Snakes can make it through the Temple and retrieve the Cork of Robert Hooke,? Kirk comments, ?right after this!? The camera zooms in on the Blue Barracudas torch at the end of the Moat before fading to commercial.
