Author's Note: This is one of the episodes of my independent project, Legends: The Rediscovery.  More information on the project can be found by following this link.

Episode 112px]

The camera swerves through a thick rainforest, and after multiple turns, it eventually stops in front of an ancient temple.  The eyes of giant stone head next to the temple gate light up red as he begins to speak:
"LEGENDS OF THE HIDDEN TEMPLE!"
The show's logo forms as two halves of a Pendant of Life come in from the sides of the screen and merge; the show's name appears above the logo as the camera pans across the entire temple.
"With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is NOW!"

On this final word, Kirk emerges from a thick patch of jungle plants and shrubs, then runs into the foreground and up a wide set of steps to greet the crowd. "Thank you! Thank you very much! Nice to see you! Thank you, Olmec! Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple.  The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards.  Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures of his temple.  Which one are we gonna hear about today?"

Faint orange lights underneath Olmec turn on, and the camera cuts to a close-up of him as he replies:
"The Priceless Flute of Leleiohoku."

"Ooh, the Priceless Flute of Lay-o-hook-o!" Kirk says in response as the camera cuts back to him. "So, the adventure is set, and one of these six teams will have a chance to retrieve the Priceless Flute! Will it be:
"Landon and Sarah of the Red Jaguars?" the camera pans to each team in order, their first names briefly appearing at the bottom of the screen?
"Walter and Jennifer of the Blue Barracudas,
"Matt and Theresa of the Green Monkeys,
"Josiah and Haley of the Orange Iguanas,
"Robert and Raquel of the Purple Parrots,
"Or Craig and Linda of the Silver Snakes?"

"They'll have to pass some tough physical and mental tests," Kirk says, "but in the end, only one team will earn the right to enter Olmec's Temple.  But first, they have to cross the Moat, and here's how they'll do it today?
"One player from each team is holding an ancient surfboard.  When I say 'Go,' he'll put the surfboard into the Moat, and he'll stand on it and go across by climbing hand-over-hand on the knotted rope above him.  Once the first player's across, it's his partner's turn to pull back the surfboard and he'll make it across."
"As soon as the second player jumps down onto the deck, it's his job to run over here and hit the gong." He hits the top button on the Red Jaguars' gong? which lights up red? to demonstrate. "The first four teams to hit their gongs will be going on to the next round.  Are you ready, teams?"
The players all cheer and shout in response.
"Olmec: Are you ready?" asks Kirk.
"Cowabunga!" Olmec replies.
"A-all right!" Kirk laughs in response. "Teams: On your marks, get set, GO!"

The event begins, and the boys on the Blue Barracudas, Orange Iguanas and Purple Parrots? along with the girls from the other teams? put their surfboards in the water and stand on them while using the knotted ropes over their heads to guide them across. "This is tough! You gotta keep your balance? Orange Iguanas gotta go back!" Kirk comments as the male Orange Iguana loses his balance on the surfboard and his feet touch the water.  On the other hand, the Red Jaguars, Purple Parrots and Green Monkeys get their first players across very quickly. "They're getting their first partners across, now their second partners have to pull back the surfboards and it?s their turn!" The first players from the Blue Barracudas and the Silver Snakes make it across as the other teams (except for the Orange Iguanas) pull hand-over-hand on the tether ropes on their respective surfboards, reeling them in.  After just a little more than twenty seconds, the second players from the Red Jaguars, Green Monkeys and Purple Parrots are already heading across, with the Blue Barracudas about to follow suit.
"These teams are fast! I think we got our first? two teams!" Kirk remarks as the Purple Parrots and Red Jaguars hit their gongs within a second of each other.  Around the same time, the male Orange Iguana makes it across, prompting his partner to pull on the rope to get her team's surfboard back to her side.  However, it's too little, too late? the Blue Barracudas gong in only two seconds after the Red Jaguars, and the Green Monkeys, whose second partner had a bit more trouble crossing the Moat, hit their gong shortly afterwards, locking into fourth and ending the Moat after only thirty-five seconds.
"That's it! We got our four teams!" declares Kirk, and the camera switches to him high-fiving the male Red Jaguar in front of his team's gong. "Everybody was fast, but the Red Jaguars blazed across, and they're goin' on to the Steps of Knowledge? along with the Blue Barracudas?" he holds for applause as the camera goes down the line to show each of the other winning teams? "and the Green Monkeys? and the Purple Parrots! The Orange Iguanas and the Silver Snakes gave it a great effort too.  We got a great gift for them for playing and here's what it is." Josiah, Haley, Craig and Linda will each be receiving a $50 U.S. Savings Bond provided by Starkist Tuna.

Rediscovery EP: The Priceless Flute of Leleiohoku
« Reply #1 on: November 19, 2010, 05:07:22 PM »
When the camera cuts away from the consolation prize, the four remaining teams, along with Kirk, are now at the top of the Steps of Knowledge. "As the quest continues," Kirk explains, "it's time for Olmec to tell us about the legend of the Priceless Flute of Lay-low-who-ko.  But teams: pay attention, because your knowledge of the legend can bring you a step closer to Olmec's Temple."
Olmec begins to tell the legend:

"Long ago, a Hawaiian couple gave birth to a future prince.  His name was Leleiohoku, and he was adopted by Princess Ruth, the widow of a High Chief.  He acted as regent when his brother, King Kal?kaua, was overseas, but legend has it he didn't want to be king himself, and would rather playing his ivory flute instead.
" 'It's too much responsibility!' he remarked when Kal?kaua returned to Hawaii. 'I'd rather stick to my music? I'm already good with that.'
" 'You won't have to worry about being king for a while,' his brother pointed out. 'You've got plenty of time to study politics.'
"In the meantime, Leleiohoku composed a number of Hawaiian love songs, including 'We Two In The Spray,' whose melody is one of the best-known Hawaiian songs today.  He loved to sing and perform with his brothers and sisters, but everything stopped when he died at age 23.  Before the funeral, his ivory flute, worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, disappeared.  Many years later, it ended up in the Temple.  Your quest is to find the Priceless Ivory Flute of Leleiohoku and bring it back here."

"Thank you," Kirk says after Olmec finishes telling the legend. "So tell us, Olmec: Where is the Priceless Flute?"
Olmec replies:
"The Priceless Flute of Leleiohoku can be found in the SHRIIIIIIINE of the Silver Monkey." The camera zooms in on an ivory flute situated on the camera-left shelf in the Shrine of the Silver Monkey, then fades back to Kirk.

"All right! Teams," Kirk begins, "in a minute, Olmec will ask you a question.  If you think you know the answer, stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you.  If you're right, you'll move down to the next level, but if you're wrong or run out of time, I'll give the other teams a chance to answer." Kirk starts walking down the steps as he continues. "The first two teams to make it to the bottom level are one step closer to Olmec's Temple.  Olmec: we're now ready for your first question."

Olmec begins:
"Was Leleiohoku a Hawaiian: Duke, Prince or King?"
Raquel hits the marking first: "Prince."
"Correct."
"Nice job, Purple Parrots, step down!" encourages Kirk, and the Purple Parrots move down to the second step. "Next question."

Olmec now asks:
"According to legend, did Leleiohoku not want to be king because: It was too big a responsibility, It was boring or He didn't like the palace?"
During the third choice, Walter rings in: "Too? uh? too much responsibility."
"Correct," answers Olmec.
"Blue Barracudas, step down! You're on the board now!" comments Kirk, and the Blue Barracudas join the Purple Parrots on the second level. "This match is starting to heat up.  Next question, Olmec!"

Olmec's next question is this:
"Did Leleiohoku rule for a short time in the place of: Kamehameha, Kal?kaua or Lili?uokalani?"
Walter buzzes in again: "Kame-hame-ha."
"Incorrect."
Matt gongs in: "Kala?kawa??"
"Correct."
"Green Monkeys, step down!" Kirk shouts out, and the Green Monkeys also move down to the second step. "It's all tied up on the second step, but the Red Jaguars can still catch up.  Olmec: next question!"

Olmec follows up with:
"Is a temporary acting ruler also called a: Baron, Pharaoh or Regent?"
After a moment of hesitation, Walter stomps down and answers: "Regent."
"That is correct," says Olmec in response.
"The Blue Barracudas just stepped down, and now they're one step away from the Temple Games!" commentates Kirk during the Blue Barracudas' descent to the third step. "We need two teams, and they might be the first one.  Olmec: next question!"

Olmec asks:
"Was Leleiohoku at heart a: Painter, Actor or Musici??"
Matt cuts Olmec off this time: "Musician??"
"That is correct."
"We got a tie on the second-to-last step!" Kirk exclaims as the Green Monkeys step down. "Now the Green Monkeys are one step away from the Temple Games, but the Red Jaguars and the Purple Parrots can catch up.  Olmec: continue."

Olmec does so:
"Did Leleiohoku die at the age of: 23, 33 or 43?"
None of the teams attempt to buzz in at first, but Matt finally does so before a bell sounds: "T? Twenty-three??"
"THAT IS CORRECT!" booms Olmec, and the Green Monkeys jump down to the bottommost step, then begin to high-five one another while the audience bursts into applause.
"We got our first team for the Temple Games, and it's the Green Monkeys!" The Green Monkeys continue to redo their high-fives for a few seconds, but eventually they stop and the audience quiets down. "We still need one more team, and who's it gonna be? Next question, Olmec."

Olmec continues:
"Was his legendary flute made of: Silver, Ebony or Ivory?"
Raquel rings in: "Silver??"
"Incorrect."
Landon stomps down and answers: "Ivory."
"Correct," says Olmec in response.
"Red Jaguars on the board!" Kirk declares as the Red Jaguars move down to the second step alongside the Purple Parrots. "Could this be a comeback? We'll see! Olmec: next question!"

Olmec then asks:
"Did Leleiohoku specialize in: Symphonies, Love songs or Power ballads?"
Walter hits the marking first: "Symphonies."
"Incorrect."
Landon gongs in: "Love songs??"
"That is correct."
"Just like that, the Red Jaguars are now one step away from the Temple Games!" Indeed, the Red Jaguars move down to the penultimate level next to the Blue Barracudas. "The Purple Parrots can still catch up.  Next question, Olmec!"

Olmec proceeds with the following:
"Which of these was the name of his best-known song: 'Aloha ?Oe,' 'We Two In The Spray' or 'Hula'?"
Landon buzzes in: " 'Aloha Oy'??"
"Incorrect," Olmec replies.
Raquel stomps down next: " 'We Two In The Spray'??"
"That is correct."
"It's a three-way tie on the second-to-last step!" remarks Kirk as the Purple Parrots also move down to the third step. "Next correct response goes to the Temple Games! Next question, Olmec!"

Olmec asks:
"According to our legend, did Leleiohoku's flute disappear: Before a concert, During his time as regent or Before his funeral?"
Hesitating a little, Walter steps in: "Uh? Before his? funeral."
"THAT IS CORRECT!" bellows Olmec, and the Blue Barracudas hop down beside the Green Monkeys on the bottom step.  Kirk runs up the middle of the step before the teams start celebrating with one another, then turns around to face the camera.
"We've got our two teams going on to the Temple Games," he announces, "and they are the Green Monkeys and the Blue Barracudas! The Red Jaguars and Purple Parrots? great effort, but came up a little short.  We got a great gift for them both and here's what it is." Landon, Robert, Raquel and Sarah will each be receiving a copy of Astro Boy on DVD.
When the camera cuts away from the consolation prize, only Kirk, the Blue Barracudas and the Green Monkeys are standing on the Steps of Knowledge. "These two teams are gonna be playing for the right to enter Olmec's Temple? right after this!" The camera swerves over to the Shrine of the Silver Monkey, and zooms in on the completely assembled statue on the front platform.  Then, the show's logo reforms over this shot and the camera fades to commercial.

Rediscovery EP: The Priceless Flute of Leleiohoku
« Reply #2 on: November 19, 2010, 05:15:45 PM »
When the camera fades back in from the commercials, the show's titlecard is superimposed over a shot of the completed coral puzzle in the Central Reef.  As the camera zooms out, the pendant splits and the title shrinks into the distance.  Soon after, the camera segues to a shot of Kirk standing in front of the Coconut Harvest and between the two teams.
"Welcome back to Legends!" says Kirk to the camera. "Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest, so let's get to know our team players." He turns camera-left to talk to the Green Monkeys, starting with a slightly-shorter-than-average, brown-eyed boy with visible black bangs. "On the Green Monkeys, we have Matt.  How old are you?"
"Thirteen," he replies when Kirk holds the microphone up to his mouth.
"And it says here you like anything with wheels," Kirk reads from the index card in his hand, with a smile on his face. "Bikes, skateboards??"
"Yeah, and? I kinda work on the car with my dad," describes Matt. "He's a mechanic."
"You think you'll get your own car someday?"
"Yeah," Matt answers with a bit of a smirk? "or I could build it from scratch."
"You'll get there!" Kirk answers with a laugh.  He then walks over to the left extreme of the screen to talk to Matt's slightly-shorter partner, a tan-skinned girl with wavy dark hair and dark brown eyes. "And his partner here is Theresa.  How old are you?"
"Thirteen," she replies when Kirk holds the microphone up to her mouth.
"And I hear you like swimming, but you're also a cheerleader," Kirk reads off the index card in his hand. "How come?"
"Well," Theresa tries to explain, "probably the energy.  Like, getting to shout real loud, all those moves? the jumps and lifting each other up?"
"Takes a lot of energy?" Kirk finishes, to which Theresa nods. "Well, you're gonna have to show some energy here.  Let's hear it for the Green Monkeys!"
"WHOO!" Theresa shouts as she and Matt raise their arms and cheer during the audience's round of applause, and Kirk pauses to wait for the applause to subside.
"All right! They're excited, but let's not forget the Blue Barracudas!" He then goes to the right side of the camera frame to talk with the Blue Barracudas, starting with a somewhat tall, short-brown-haired boy with icy blue eyes. "And on the Barracudas, we have Walter.  How old are you?"
"Fourteen."
"And it says here you're on your school's basketball team, but you wanna be a filmmaker," comments Kirk. "What kind of movie?"
"Well?" Walter takes a few seconds to reply. "I've made some short movies with my friends? put 'em up on YouTube? but now I'm working on this script for a spy movie."
"I'll have to catch it when it comes out," Kirk teases before going to the far right of the screen and meeting Walter's partner, a brown-eyed girl with chestnut-brown hair in a braided ponytail. "And Jennifer: how old are you?"
"Fourteen," she replies.
"And it says here you run track and surf, but you wanna be an actress," says Kirk. "Tell me about that." He then holds the microphone up to Jennifer's mouth.
"Uhh? yeah.  Maybe? action movies or dramas??"
"Ever thought of a spy movie?" Kirk teases.
Jennifer looks over at Walter for a split second. "I could try," she says before giggling.
"All right! This is a show-biz team here.  Let's hear it for the Blue Barracudas!" Walter and Jennifer briefly hug during their round of applause.

"Okay, you guys ready to play?" asks Kirk.
"YEAH!" shout the four players in response.
"All right, then why don't you guys go get set up for the Temple Games?" Kirk says, pointing in different directions; Walter and Matt walk offscreen to the right, Jennifer and Theresa to the left.  As they leave, Kirk then turns back to the camera to continue his explanation. "In the Temple Games, each team is competing for?" he opens a pouch and pulls out a small gold medallion to show to the camera? "these Pendants of Life.  The winning team will need those Pendants to protect them from the dreaded Temple Guards as they make their way through Olmec's Temple.  There are three Temple Games, and Olmec? tell us about Temple Game #1."

Olmec begins:
"Leleiohoku wasn't interested in ruling the Hawaiian Islands, but he was more interested in music, and he was constantly composing and performing.  At the top of the tower in front of you are four of Leleiohoku's music books.  When Kirk gives the signal, climb the tower, grab a music book, stick it to your helmet, and climb back down and place it in your bin.  Then, climb back up and do it again.
"The first player to remove all four music books from the top of the tower? or the player that's further along in 60 seconds? wins."
The camera segues over to Kirk. "All right, our players are gonna have to be librarians here," he remarks. "Let's put 60 seconds on the clock?" A countdown clock appears in the bottom-right corner with a banging sound effect as he takes a few steps offscreen. "On your mark, get set, GO!"
Matt and Walter begin to climb the column, but from the start, Walter moves at a much quicker speed.  In just five seconds, he grabs the first music book from the top of the column and brings it back down; he gets it in his team's bin with 51 seconds on the clock, just as Matt reaches for the Green Monkeys' first music book and grabs it after some trouble.  He brings his team's first book back down in relatively little time, jumping off the column at the end (:47). "Blue Barracudas moving a bit faster here, but can the Green Monkeys catch up?" Only a few seconds later, Walter picks up his team's second music book and starts to scurry back down the column.  He places the Barracudas' second music book in the bin with 41 seconds to go, just before Matt, now moving a bit more swiftly, can detach the Monkeys' second music book from the side of the column's capital.
"Green Monkeys really starting to catch up," declares Kirk as Matt drops his second music book in the bin with 35 seconds to go, "but can the Blue Barracudas stay ahead?" Both teams scramble back up the columns, but near the top, Matt loses his grip and is left dangling at the halfway mark, letting Walter extend his lead. "Blue Barracudas are gaining again? Green Monkeys lost? or they gotta climb up again!" Soon enough, Walter has made it back down and placed his third music book in the Barracudas' bin with 27 seconds left; Matt takes much longer to recover from simply swinging around. "Blue Barracudas need just one more to win!" Walter moves much quicker this time, getting to the top of the column and grabbing the last book with 22 seconds remaining. "Green Monkeys gotta scramble? I don't think he's gonna make it!" Matt finally makes it back to the column around the same time, and grabs his team's third music book with nineteen seconds left? but Walter gets his team's last one in the bin only two seconds later!
"That's it!" Kirk declares, running over. "C'mon down!" Matt lets go of the column and is lowered to the floor by his support cord. "All right, the Blue Barracudas got all of their books before time ended, so they get the half-Pendant of Life!" The audience applauds for a few seconds before Kirk continues. "The Green Monkeys can catch up in the next Temple Game; it's worth a half-Pendant.  Olmec: tell us about it."

Olmec continues:
"Leleiohoku loved to perform his music, and this often meant dancing as well.  In this game, you will have to show your footwork.  When Kirk gives the signal, grab the rope and swing out from the top platform to the next one.  Then, start jumping from each platform to the next, but remember to act fast? if you take too long, the platforms will begin to sink.
"The first player to reach the platform at the end, the player that's further along after 60 seconds or the player that stays on the longest? wins!"
"All right, our players gotta make it down here," Kirk remarks as the camera segues over to him standing in front of the two tall arrays of platforms. "Let's see who makes it first? Let's put 60 seconds on the clock." The countdown clock reappears in the bottom-right corner of the screen, along with a blue half-Pendant in the upper-right corner, as the camera switches to a higher-shot of the girls poised and ready to swing out. "On your marks, get set, GO!"
Theresa and Jennifer have long ropes in hand, and head out to the first of the progressively lower platforms fairly quickly.  However, while Jennifer properly swings across, Theresa does more of a running jump instead, forcing herself to absorb the impact when she hits the platform. "They're both heading out? it's gonna be tough as they go across, but they gotta get each platform and get to the other side!" Theresa hesitates a bit before making the second jump, not noticing that the platform she's standing on is starting to sink. "They gotta move fast or the platform sinks! Green Monkeys?!" Theresa soon swings out to the next platform, having to swing from a camera-left platform to a camera-right one.  However, the more confident Jennifer is a few seconds ahead, landing on the second platform with 49 seconds left.  Behind them, the first platforms suddenly drop after the :45 mark.  Jennifer retains her lead as the girls prepare to swerve camera-left again; she makes it to the platform with forty seconds left, about two seconds before Theresa.
"Blue Barracudas a little ahead," commentates Kirk just before the second platform sinks, "but the Green Monkeys look determined! Can they catch up?" Jennifer swings out to the fourth platform first, and gets sufficient distance but mistimes the landing; this delays her enough that Theresa catches up, although Jennifer manages to get her feet on the platform soon after, resulting in the girls being almost even with 29 seconds remaining (behind them, the second platform drops). "Both girls are really close, but only one can get there first!" Both girls swing out, but Theresa swings too low, and barely gets her foot on the top of the ledge.  On the other hand, Jennifer safely lands on the final, lowest platform with twenty seconds left, ending the game.
"All right, that's it! Good job Blue Barracudas!" Kirk shouts, running over as the indicators vanish from the screen.  Theresa gives up trying to climb onto the platform and lets herself be lowered to the floor by the support cord attached to her harness; Jennifer sits on the ledge of the final platform and drops down the same way. "It was a close match? great work by both girls? but the Blue Barracudas made it first, earning them another half-Pendant of Life!" The audience cheers for a few seconds as Kirk high-fives Jennifer. "So now the Blue Barracudas have a full Pendant, the Green Monkeys don't have any yet? but this next game is worth a full Pendant.  Olmec: tell us about Temple Game #3."

Olmec narrates:
"As any performer should know, music and dance have a lot to do with rhythm, and when performing with others, synchronization? and you'll need that here.  When Kirk gives the signal, one player from each team will put a golden ball between their feet.   Grab the trapeze, and swing out to meet your partner in the middle.  Once there, transfer the object to the other player, and he'll bring it back to the other side and place it in your bin.
"The team with the most golden balls in their bin at the end of 30 seconds? wins!"
The camera transitions over to Kirk standing in the midst of the four players' ramps. "This is for the Temple," he reminds the audience. "Green Monkeys need this game to tie, so let's put sixt? er? 30 seconds on the clock?" The countdown clock reappears in the bottom-right corner as Kirk dashes offscreen to the left and the camera pans out; this time, a blue full Pendant appears in the upper-right corner. "On your marks, get set, GO!"
The boys swing out on their trapezes, each with a golden ball between their feet.  On the very first try, Theresa easily takes the ball from Matt, and both swing back to their starting platforms.  The Blue Barracudas have a bit more trouble with synchronization and fail to score on the first try, but Theresa drops the Green Monkey's first ball in their bin with 24 seconds to go. "Green Monkeys moving fast! This could be a comeback!" After this, however, Matt stalls a bit with positioning the second ball? it slips away after he swings off the platform at first? but Theresa swings out anyway before she realizes the problem!
"Green Monkeys having a little trouble now! Could that cost 'em?" Kirk asks rhetorically as the Blue Barracudas make a proper transfer with nineteen seconds to go.  Neither team does very well on the third try, in part because one player from each team mistimes their swing. "It's pretty quick? we just gotta see who's gonna win! It's all communication here!" Soon, the teams both recover; the Green Monkeys score a second time with nine seconds left, but the Jennifer also drops a second golden ball in the Barracudas' bin with six seconds left. "The teams are pretty even? they just got one try left!" Both teams swing out again, but the players mistime the transfer; Matt swings back with his team's third ball still between his feet, but Jennifer fails to carry her team's third ball all the way back.  When the countdown clock reaches zero, it splinters and a pattern of ceiling spotlights flashes to indicate that the game is over.
"Time's up!" Kirk announces, reappearing onscreen. "All right, so how they did? Let's see!" The players let go of the trapezes and follow him as he runs between the girls' ramps and pulls Theresa's bin over first. "Let's start with the Green Monkeys.  They got?" he reaches into the bins and pulls out the golden balls one at a time while he counts? "one? two golden balls.  Blue Barracudas?" He goes over to Jennifer's bin and does the same. "One? two golden balls! It's a tie, so they each get the full Pendant? but that gives the Blue Barracudas two, and the Green Monkeys had one.  The Blue Barracudas are goin' to the Temple!" Jennifer squeals before she nearly tackles Walter; the two end up high-tenning multiple times as Kirk goes to stand by the Green Monkeys. "The Green Monkeys fought hard, but came up a bit short, but we're not gonna let 'em go away empty-handed.  Here's what we got for them." Matt and Theresa will each be receiving a $50 iTunes gift card.
The camera cuts back from the consolation prize to reveal only Kirk and the Blue Barracudas among the ramps and trapezes used in the third Temple Game. "Can the Blue Barracudas make it through the Temple and retrieve that Priceless Flute of Lay-haw-coo?" he asks rhetorically. "We'll see? right after this!" The cameraman apparently swerves in between the players, then runs up the ramp Theresa used and zooms his camera in on the gray ledges of the Cave.  The show's logo reappears over this shot and the camera subsequently fades to black for commercials.

Rediscovery EP: The Priceless Flute of Leleiohoku
« Reply #3 on: November 19, 2010, 05:22:50 PM »
When the camera returns from the second commercial break, the show's logo is partially covering a shot of the Blue Barracudas' torch at the end of the Moat.  The Pendant of Life splits, the title shrinks into the distance and the camera segues to Kirk standing in front of the Temple's stairs, to the camera-right of the Blue Barracudas. "Welcome back to Legends!" he says to the camera. "The Blue Barracudas have proven themselves worthy, and now've earned the right to enter the Temple.  But first, Olmec's gotta give 'em some information to help 'em retrieve the Priceless Flute? of Lay-you-whole-coo."
Olmec begins to give the rundown:
"You COULD start? by running up to the Room of the Ancient Masks! Push in the correct mask, and pass into the Upper Terrace! There you must choose your next path; you could race up into the Observatory.  Read the instructions on the far wall with the telescope, and follow them to open the door to the Central Reef.  Solve the correct puzzle to open the door to the Tiki Village! Push the correct idol into position; that may take you below or lead you into the SHRIIIIIIIIiiine of the Silver Monkey, where you can grab the Priceless Flute of Leleiohoku.  Next, you may be headed toward the Pirate's Cove! Place the torch in the correct holder to go back, or spin the ship's wheel and enter the Graveyard of Ships.
"Stand on the correct grave to go upstairs? but beware the Temple Guards that may inhabit the buried pirates!  Or, you might plow through the wall and into the Viper's Nest.  Reach into the snake jars and find the key, and you'll enter the Bamboo Forest!  If you escape, you might have a chance to enter the Cannon Room.  Load the three cannonballs into the cannon, and if the rock slab is up, you can crawl back through the Coconut Harvest and finally climb through the Cave, rrrrace down the STAIRS and back through the Temple Gate.  The choices are yours and yours alone!" Olmec pauses for a second. "You won 2 Pendants in the Temple Games.  Who's going first?"
"I am!" calls Walter, raising his hand in the air.
"Very WELL, Walter!" replies Olmec as Kirk hands out the Pendants of Life. "When Kirk gives the signal, you'll race through the gates into the Temple and make your way towards the Priceless Flute.  Hidden in the Temple are three secret passages that may lead you into the Bamboo Forest, as well as Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms.  You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on BUT? if you're caught without a Pendant, you'll be taken out of the Temple? and it'll be Jennifer's turn to enter and try her luck.  If you reach the Flute, all the doors of the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish.  Return through the gates with the Priceless Flute of Leleiohoku in three minutes, and you will both be handsomely rewarded? and here's how!"
?   For just getting into the Temple, they're both going to get a skateboard provided by Vans.
?   If they can grab the Flute within three minutes, they're also going to get an Xzibit Video Game Rocker provided by Dreamseat.
?   And if they can bring the Priceless Flute out of the Temple before three minutes is up, they'll both be going to Hawaii! In the heart of Waikiki, the Best Western Ohana Waikiki Tower participates in the Young Travelers Club.  Just steps away from Waikiki Beach, an area pulsing with excitement, shopping and entertainment!

The camera cuts back from the grand prize to show Kirk, Walter and Jennifer one last time before the bonus round begins. "Hawaii! Let's see if we can get 'em there!" comments Kirk, who then turns to Jennifer. "But before we get started, I gotta ask Jennifer: How do you think you're gonna get to the Flute?"
"Well, we're gonna start by going up," she replies, "and we're gonna? we're just gonna see how far across we can go.  We think we're gonna have to go down and come back up at some point, but we're gonna try to go as fast as we can."
"All right then," Kirk remarks. "Let's see if that works.  Let's get you out in front, Walter.  Mouthpieces in.  And put? three minutes on the clock." The clock reappears onscreen. "And let's lower the gate, Olmec!"
Olmec groans gutturally as he lowers the gate; the faint orange lights under him are turned off.
"On your mark, get set, GO!"

"There goes Walter! Up into the Temple!" Kirk begins the commentary as Walter races up the stairs into the Room of the Ancient Masks. "He's fast?  let's see if that can get 'em to Hawaii!" Walter pushes in the camera-right mask on the back wall of the room and runs on towards the opening door, but the door in the middle of the back wall opens?
"Augh, TEMPLE GUARD!" exclaims Kirk as Walter turns around and faces the Temple Guard. "Right off the bat! But he's got a Pendant!" Walter takes a couple seconds to hand over his Pendant of Life, but the Temple Guard takes it and retreats.  Walter, on the other hand, advances into the Upper Terrace with 2:44 to go. "He was too fast for that Temple Guard, but now he's got no more Pendants!" He jogs across the further-back of the two parallel catwalks connecting the side ledges of the Upper Terrace, and hits the actuator for the Observatory door, which does not open. "He's got plenty of time, but next time a Temple Guard gets 'im?" Walter then goes across and hits the actuator for the Central Reef, and scurries through the passageway. "He's into the Reef! He's got two puzzles!" As soon as he enters the room, he rushes over to the fake fish tank in the front of the room and pulls out the first plastic fish? but as soon as he hangs it on one of the hooks on the stage-left wall, the second Temple Guard emerges from the side door and captures him with 2:29 left!
"Augh, Temple Guard! Go Jennifer!" exclaims Kirk, and Jennifer races up into the Temple as soon as she reacts.  She dashes up the stairs and enters the Room of the Ancient Masks (2:22), then runs into the Upper Terrace (2:18) and slows down a little as she heads across the catwalk. "She's watching her steps? following Walter's path?" At the end, Jennifer crouches down and crawls through the passage to the Central Reef with 2:10 remaining. "This is where he got taken out! He already hung up one of the fish?" Jennifer moves over to the fish tank and pulls out the other four fish at the same time, then starts searching for the fishhooks on the walls (2:02). "She's fast! They're both fast!" Fittingly, she doesn't take a lot of time to find the two remaining fishhooks on the stage-left wall, and hangs two of the fish on them before moving to the other side. "This Blue Barracudas team? they're tough, and they're smart!" Jennifer takes a couple seconds to find the first of the two fishhooks on the stage-right wall, but she hangs up the last fish soon after, opening the door to the Tiki Village.  She turns around, then goes over and crawls through the passage, entering the Tiki Village with a healthy 1:43 remaining.
"She's right next to the Flute!" Kirk remarks as Jennifer gets behind the stage-right tiki idol and begins to push on it, following the path created by a few raised ridges on the floor (1:40). "These guys fought hard in the Moat, and the Steps of Knowledge?" Time passes as Jennifer pushes the idol towards the back of the room, then starts to push it stage-left. "They got two Pendants, but she still has hers! But will she need it?" She continues to push the idol along the path and behind the central ladder; once it is lined up with the middle line of the room, it apparently weighs down a floor switch, causing two of the doors leading out of the room to open with 1:25 left.  In a surprise move, however, Jennifer dashes up the stairs and into the Observatory!
"She's? she's heading back!" Kirk declares as Jennifer jogs up the stairs into the Observatory. "Maybe she's got a plan? wait!" A few moments later, she turns back and reenters the Tiki Village with 1:13 on the clock.  At this point, she studies the other two doors. "That door didn't open, but maybe she can go down!" A couple seconds later, Jennifer moves accordingly, and starts climbing down the ladder in the middle of the room to enter the Bamboo Forest.  Once in the room, she scurries down the tangle of bamboo shoots which replaces the ladder, and quickly passes through to the other side of the screen-like tangle when she reaches a wide opening near the top (0:58). "She's got about a minute, but can she do it?" Once securely on the other side of that tangle, Jennifer moves stage-left, reaching out for the leftmost of the three parallel bamboo webs in the room with 53 seconds left. "She's still got a Pendant if she needs it? But will she need it?" She swings out onto the fence-like mass of bamboo shoots once both of her hands are gripping one of the high, horizontal poles; she then climbs a couple feet down the tangle and pushes her way through an opening with 47 seconds left, and drops down to the floor in front of the stage-left wall. "After this, she might just need to go up!" As Kirk says this, Jennifer has just pressed the actuator for the closer-to-the-foreground of the two crawl tubes and is heading through to the Viper's Nest; she sets foot in the room just as the clock reaches 0:39.
"She's right under the Flute, with forty seconds!" continues the commentary as Jennifer dashes over to the altars. "She's gotta open one of those snake?" Kirk pauses as Jennifer opens the leftmost of the three jars and pulls out a magnetic key (0:34). "She's got a key! She can go up! Nice job Jennifer!" She heads to the back of the room, and soon tries the key on every keypad she can find. "She's gotta open the door so she can go up?!" Jennifer tries the two leftmost golden doors on the back wall, and even one of the others on the stage-right wall, which does open (0:25).  She doesn't head through, however. "She can bust through the wall if she wants?" Jennifer apparently hears Kirk, as she drops the key and runs through the breakaway rock wall connecting the Viper's Nest to the Graveyard of Ships with twenty seconds to go. "She's gotta go the long way! Jennifer's got fifteen seconds!" Almost immediately, she heads to the back of the room and stomps on the actuator embedded in the stage-left grave, and a sound indicates that a door has opened (0:14!).  She looks around and then moves towards the stage-left ladder as an iron slab above rises, allowing access to the Pirate's Cove. "She's gotta hurry! Just a few seconds left!" Jennifer climbs up the ladder as quickly as she can, and sets foot in the Pirate's Cove with four seconds left.  She moves over to the ship's wheel to start spinning it, but the third Temple Guard emerges from the back door? AND time runs out!
"Augh, we're out of time!" laments Kirk, a disappointed Walter by his side. "They were just one room away!" The camera cuts to the Pirate's Cove, where Jennifer is struggling to break free of the Temple Guard's grasp (or at least free one arm to hand him her Pendant of Life), then switches back to Kirk and Walter in the foreground soon after. "She fought hard, she cleared out a major path? Walter was fast, they both were fast! But they're not going away empty-handed; they get the skateboards just for playing, and you had a great time, right?" He holds the microphone up to Walter's mouth.
"Yeah," he replies.
"Yeah, but we gotta get outta here," continues Kirk. "Join us again for more adventure and another great Legend of the Hidden Temple! Buh-bye!" Kirk and Walter wave to the camera as it zooms out; different shots of the Blue Barracudas' lit gong at the Moat, foliage near the Steps of Knowledge and Temple Games arena and Olmec are all shown? along with Jennifer returning to the foreground without her Pendant of Life and conversing with Kirk and Walter? while the credits roll.

Rediscovery EP: The Priceless Flute of Leleiohoku
« Reply #4 on: November 19, 2010, 05:37:03 PM »
Episode Summary
Episode 112px]

Name of Artifact: The Priceless Flute of Leleiohoku
Season: 3
Layout: 3 (Hawaiian Layout; 13 overall)
Result: Failed acquisition
Team: Blue Barracudas
Pendants Won: 2
Location of Artifact: The Shrine of the Silver Monkey

This wasn't a particularly good episode, but I thought it wasn't quite dull enough to be deemed "filler." The Moat was nice and quick, but the legend and Steps and Knowledge were detailed and close.  The players sounded interesting, and the episode even premiered a cool new Temple Game: although it wasn't very well-related to the legend, one player from each team had to use a long rope and swing down from one platform to the next in a zigzagging pattern.  After three games, the Blue Barracudas defeated the Green Monkeys 2-1 and went on to the Temple Run.

The Blue Barracudas? filmmaker Walter and aspiring actress Jennifer? made a great team, but ultimately it was a lengthy Temple design that did them in.  Walter was removed from the Temple as early as the Central Reef, and in only thirty-one seconds.  Jennifer wasn't as fast as her teammate, but she didn't have much trouble with most of the objectives along the way.  Her only misstep was briefly backtracking to the Observatory from the Tiki Village? and curiously, the room could only be entered that way? but she smartly tried to go up from the Viper's Nest.  Unfortunately, she had to take the long way around, and could only grab the Flute in the ninth room.  Unfortunately, her attempt to go up from the Viper's Nest might have cost her team just enough time to reach the artifact? time ran out when the third Temple Guard grabbed her in the Pirate's Cove.

Trivia and Records:
This is the only known episode of The Rediscovery where a Temple Guard tries to drag away a player who has a full Pendant? this occurs to Jennifer in the last few seconds? and the guard didn't seem to know time had run out, either!
