Rediscovery EP: The Weaving Shuttle of Arachne

Author's Note: This is one of the episodes of my independent project, Legends: The Rediscovery.  More information on the project can be found by following this link.

Episode 102px]

The camera swerves through a thick rainforest, and after multiple turns, it eventually stops in front of an ancient temple.  The eyes of giant stone head next to the temple gate light up red as he begins to speak:
"LEGENDS OF THE HIDDEN TEMPLE!"
The show's logo forms as two halves of a Pendant of Life come in from the sides of the screen and merge; the show's name appears above the logo as the camera pans across the entire temple.
"With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is NOW!"

On this final word, Kirk emerges from a thick patch of jungle plants and shrubs, then runs into the foreground and up a wide set of steps to greet the crowd. "Thank you! Thank you very much! Nice to see you! Thank you, Olmec! Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple.  The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards.  Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures of his temple.  Which one are we gonna hear about today?"

Faint orange lights underneath Olmec turn on, and the camera cuts to a close-up of him as he replies:
"The legend of the Weaving Shuttle of Arachne."

"Ooh, the Weaving Shuttle of Ariadne!" Kirk says in response as the camera cuts back to him. "So the legend is set, one of these six teams will have a chance to retrieve the Weaving Shuttle.  Will it be:
"Juan and Marissa of the Red Jaguars?" the camera pans to each team in order, their first names briefly appearing at the bottom of the screen?
"Kenny and Crystal of the Blue Barracudas,
"Justin and Jacqui of the Green Monkeys,
"Trevor and Vanessa of the Orange Iguanas,
"Taylor and Erika of the Purple Parrots,
"Or Chad and Kristin of the Silver Snakes?"

"They're gonna have to pass some physical and mental tests," Kirk says, "and in the end, only one team's gonna earn the right to enter Olmec's Temple.  But first, they have to cross the Moat, and here's how they're gonna do it today?
"Each team is standing in front of five swinging steps: one by itself, and then two pairs.  When I say 'Go,' one player from each team is gonna climb out onto the first step, and then he's gonna pick one step from each of the two pairs until he makes it across.  But two of the steps are gonna sink in if the player steps onto them and he's gonna fall in, and then he's gotta go back and try again.  Once the first player's across, it's his partner's turn to cross."
"As soon as the second player steps onto the deck, it's his job to run over here and hit the gong." He hits the top button on the Red Jaguars' gong? which lights up red? to demonstrate. "The first four teams to hit their gongs will be going into the next round, so teams: are you ready?"
"YEAH!" The players all cheer and shout in response.
"Olmec, are you ready?" asks Kirk.
"I was sculpted ready!" Olmec asks in response.
"All right!" Kirk laughs a reply. "On your marks, get set, GO!"

As soon as Kirk says ?Go,? the first players on each team (boys except for the Orange Iguanas and the Purple Parrots) grab onto the rods suspending the first swinging steps across the Moat.  All except the male Green Monkey and the female Orange Iguana choose the left step in the second row, however, and consequently sink and have to go back.  However, the Monkey and the Iguana both incorrectly choose the right platform in the final row, and have to restart as well.  Delays, mistakes and hesitancies by most of the players mean that the boys on the Blue Barracudas and Silver Snakes are the first to get to the other side, after about twenty seconds of Moat crossing.
?This is tough! You gotta remember where your partner went!? Kirk remarks as the female Blue Barracuda sinks on the stage-right step in the final row, which her partner never stepped on, thirty-six seconds into the round.  In the meantime, the male Red Jaguar misses the last step altogether and falls into the water, and therefore has to restart as well, but the female Silver Snake makes it across in relatively little time and runs over to bang down on her team?s gong. ?We got our first team, it?s the Silver Snakes! Still looking for three more teams, who?s it gonna be?? After forty seconds, the Green Monkeys become only the third team to get a player across to the other side, but the Orange Iguanas and Purple Parrots are not too far behind.  Their partners speed along whereas the female Blue Barracuda delays her team, which translates to the Green Monkeys and Orange Iguanas locking in at almost the exact same time, after about fifty-five seconds. ?Still need one more?!? The Blue Barracuda narrowly beats out the male Purple Parrot, who is just getting off the final step.
?And that?s it! We got our four teams!? Kirk announces; the camera cuts to him running over to the Blue Barracudas? gong and high-fiving the male player there. ?The Blue Barracudas just barely beat out the Purple Parrots, it was close! They?re going on to the Steps of Knowledge, along with the Green Monkeys?? the camera briefly shows each of the other qualifying teams, with Kirk holding for applause from the audience? ?and the Orange Iguanas? and the Silver Snakes! The Red Jaguars and the Blue? I mean, the Purple Parrots aren?t going away empty-handed.  Here?s what we got for them.? Juan, Jackie, Taylor and Erika will each be receiving a copy of Aliens in the Attic on DVD.

Rediscovery EP: The Weaving Shuttle of Arachne
« Reply #1 on: August 20, 2010, 05:06:58 PM »
When the camera cuts away from the consolation prize, Kirk and the four remaining teams are at the top of the Steps of Knowledge. "As the quest continues, it's now time for Olmec to tell us about the Weaving Shuttle of Arachne.  But pay attention, because your knowledge of the legend can bring you a step closer to Olmec's Temple."
Olmec begins to tell the legend:

"One of the most powerful Greek gods was the goddess Athena, the goddess of wisdom, war and craftwork, and the patron goddess of Athens.  She always wore a helmet and carried a shield, and she was a good military strategist, but she was just as beautiful as she was strong, and as stern as she was fair.  But legend has it she had quite the temper and didn't take kindly to arrogant mortals, and there was a woman named Arachne, who considered herself a master of the loom?
" 'Miss Arachne, that's beautiful!' said a girl who was watching Arachne weave.
" 'Thank you, dear,' she smiled. 'It's my finest tapestry yet.'
" 'How did you get so good?'
" 'I like to think of it as a gift.  I daresay Athena couldn't outdo this!'
"Athena overheard the conversation, and the next day, she appeared on earth to challenge Arachne.
" 'A mortal claiming to outperform a goddess? Not only is that a personal insult, but it's blasphemy.  But let's see if it's true and then maybe I'll let it slide?'
"The two got to work, and when they were done, Athena revealed her tapestry first: a detailed scene of mortals being punished for arrogance.  Arachne unveiled her tapestry, a magnificent work which outshone Athena's? but the scene it depicted made fun of the gods! Athena was outraged, and tore the insolent Arachne's tapestry with her shuttle, and then turned Arachne into a spider.
" 'There.  Now you can weave all you want.'
"Athena returned to Mount Olympus and Arachne left the area, cursed to spin webs for the rest of her days, but her shuttle disappeared.  Your quest is to retrieve the Weaving Shuttle of Arachne and bring it back here."

"Thank you Olmec," Kirk replies as soon as Olmec concluded the legend, "so tell us: Where is the Shuttle?"
Olmec answers:
"The Weaving Shuttle of Arachne can be found in the Den of Totem Poles." The camera zooms in on a small wooden shuttle on the central pedestal of the Den of Totem Poles outcropping, then fades back to Kirk.

"Teams," Kirk begins, "in a moment, Olmec will ask you a question.  If you think you know the answer, stomp down on that ancient marking in front of you.  If you're right, you're gonna move down to the next level, but if you're wrong or run out of time, I'm gonna give the other teams a chance to answer." Kirk starts walking down the steps at this point, then turns around to face the teams. "The first two teams to make it to the bottom step? will be one step closer to Olmec's Temple.  Olmec, we?re ready for your first question."

Olmec begins:
?Was Arachne a character in: Egyptian mythology, Sumerian???
Chad hits the marking first: ?Greek? uh, myths.?
?Correct,? says Olmec in response.
?Nice job, Silver Snakes, step down!? Kirk calls out, prompting the Silver Snakes to move down to the second step. ?Next question, Olmec!?

Olmec asks:
?With which of these Greek goddesses did Arachne compete???
Crystal interrupts Olmec this time: ?Athena.?
?Correct,? answers Olmec.
?Blue Barracudas, step down!? remarks Kirk, and the Blue Barracudas also walk down onto the second step. ?Next question!?

Olmec then asks:
?Did Arachne consider herself an expert in: Carving, Weaving or Paint???
Justin rings in: ?Weaving.?
?Correct.?
?Green Monkeys, stomp? I mean, step down!? Kirk shouts, laughing off his mistake as the Green Monkeys move down to the second step as well. ?It?s a stompin? match! Olmec, next question!?

Olmec asks:
?After the competition, did Athena: Have Arachne thrown???
A stomp by Crystal cuts Olmec off: ?She? turned her into a spider.?
There is a brief pause.
?That is correct.?
?The Blue Barracudas are now just one step away from the Temple Games!? Kirk explains as the Blue Barracudas hop down to the second-to-last step. ?We?re looking for the two teams, and the Orange Iguanas can still catch up.  Next question.?

Olmec?s next question is this:
?Did Athena turn Arachne into???
Justin buzzes in very early: ?Spider!?
?That is correct,? Olmec answers.
?Didn?t see that coming!? Kirk remarks as the Green Monkeys join the Blue Barracudas on the penultimate level. ?Next correct response and the Green Monkeys are going to the Temple Games.  Next question, Olmec!?

Olmec continues:
?Which of these was Athena the goddess of: Justice, Wisdom or Love??
After a moment of hesitation, Crystal stomps down and guesses: ?Uh? Wisdom???
?THAT IS CORRECT!? shouts Olmec, prompting the Blue Barracudas to jump down onto the bottom step and begin celebrating.
?We got our first team for the Temple Games; it?s the Blue Barracudas!? comments Kirk as Crystal and her partner hug for a couple moments and then high-five multiple times. ?Still looking for one more team; who?s it gonna be? Let?s keep going! Olmec, next question!?

Olmec asks:
?According to our legend, did the scene in Arachne?s tapestry: Depict a mythical garden, Honor the King of Athens or Make fun of the gods??
Trevor gongs in: ?It? made fun of the gods???
?Correct,? replies Olmec.
?Orange Iguanas are on the board!? Kirk narrates as the Orange Iguanas move down to the second step. ?Maybe they can come back! Next question, Olmec!?

Olmec follows up the previous question with this one:
?Did Athena?s tapestry depict: People being punished, Heroes making offerings to the gods or Warriors fighting??
Justin hesitantly hits his marking: ?People being punished???
?THAT IS CORRECT!? Olmec bellows, and the Green Monkeys move around the Blue Barracudas to access the bottom step.
?We have our two teams!? announces Kirk as he reappears onscreen and runs up the middle of the step before the teams start celebrating with one another.  He then turns around to face the camera, allowing the players to high-five and shake each other?s hands. ?And they are the Blue Barracudas and the Green Monkeys! The Silver Snakes and the Orange Iguanas gave it a great effort too.  We got a nice gift for them for playing and here?s what it is.? Trevor, Vanessa, Chad and Kristin will each be receiving a copy of Ponyo on DVD.
When the camera cuts away from the consolation prize, only Kirk and the two remaining teams are still present at the base of the Steps of Knowledge. ?These two teams will be playing for the right to enter Olmec?s Temple? right after this!? The camera moves across the empty Temple Games arena and zooms in on a cluster of bamboo poles in the Bamboo Forest.  Then, the show?s logo reappears and the camera then fades to commercial.

Rediscovery EP: The Weaving Shuttle of Arachne
« Reply #2 on: August 20, 2010, 05:12:53 PM »
When the camera fades back in from the commercials, the show?s titlecard is displayed over a shot of a plastic lizard stuck to the wall just outside the Central Dock.  The pendant splits, the title shrinks into the distance and shortly after, the camera segues to Kirk and the two remaining teams standing in front of the Pit of Despair and some Temple Game equipment.
?Welcome back to Legends!? says Kirk to the camera. ?Now?s the time when the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest, so let?s talk to our team players.? He turns camera-left to talk to the Blue Barracudas, starting with a slightly taller-than-average boy with coffee-brown eyes and dark bangs just barely visible under his helmet. ?On the Blue Barracudas, we have Kenny.  How old are you?? He holds the microphone up to Kenny?s mouth.
?Thirteen,? he replies.
?And I understand you like all kinds of sports,? Kirk continues, referring to the index card in his hand. ?Do you have a favorite??
?Well,? Kenny answers, looking up for a moment, ?I play a lot of basketball, I do some skateboarding, some football? but I really like basketball and swimming.?
?Very nice.  That?s why he?s a Blue Barracuda,? Kirk says to the camera with a smile, before moving to the left extreme of the screen to talk to Kenny?s slightly shorter partner, a blue-eyed girl with freckles and straight, brown hair. ?And also on the Blue Barracudas, we have Crystal.  How old are you??
?Eleven,? she replies when Kirk holds the microphone up to her mouth.
?And it says here you like to sing, but you also like to cook,? Kirk reads off the index card in his hand. ?Tell me about that.?
?Well, my parents both work into the evening,? explains Crystal, ?so me and my older sister?? she pauses to find a term? ?took turns making dinner for them when they got home, and then I kinda... liked it and stuck with it.?
?What?s your favorite thing to cook??
?Probably? I like trying out different kinds of pastas and sauces.?
?Ooh, nice,? Kirk says. ?Let?s hear it for the Blue Barracudas!? Kenny and Crystal high-ten during the round of applause the audience gives them, and Kirk goes to the right side of the camera frame to talk with the Green Monkeys, starting with a curly-brown-haired boy with green eyes. ?And on the Green Monkeys, we have Justin.  How old are you??
?Twelve.?
?And I hear you?re into skateboarding and basketball? looks like we might have a little one-on-one here? but you also like to draw,? comments Kirk. ?What do you like to draw??
?Um? mostly people, lots of robots?? Justin answers thoughtfully. ?Hoping I can start up a comic book, probably with a? um, a future story.?
?All right, sounds nice,? Kirk comments before going to the far right of the screen.  There he meets Justin?s partner, a brown-skinned girl with dark eyes and curly dark hair tied back in a ponytail. ?And Jacqui, how old are you??
?Twelve,? she answers with a smile.
?And I hear you do gymnastics but you really wanna be a writer,? says Kirk. ?Tell me about that.?
?Well,? Jacqui answers, ?I?ve been keeping a journal by my bed so I can write down the dreams I have? and I?m getting a few ideas from that.?
?Going to put them all together??
?Maybe.? She laughs softly.
?Ah, very nice,? remarks Kirk. ?This is a creative Green Monkeys team, so let?s hear it for ?em!? The audience applauds once more for the Green Monkeys, and Justin and Jacqui clap along with them.

"All right, you guys ready to play?" asks Kirk.
"YEAH!" answer the teams.
"All right! Then why don't you guys go get set up for the first Temple Game?" Kirk says, pointing to an indefinite location beyond the right edge of the screen, and Kenny and Justin walk off that way. "And why don't you girls go get set up for the second one over there?" Kirk points off to the left somewhere, and Crystal and Jacqui move accordingly before Kirk faces the camera and continues talking. "In the Temple Games, these two teams are competing to win?" he opens a pouch and pulls out a small gold medallion to show to the camera? "these Pendants of Life.  The winning team is gonna need those Pendants to protect themselves from the DREADED Temple Guards as they make their way through Olmec's Temple.  There are three Temple Games, and Olmec will tell us about the first one."

Olmec begins:
"The Greek goddess Athena turned Arachne, a weaver, into a spider, and cursed her to forever spin webs instead of disrespectful tapestries.  In this game, you are going to help a spider spin its web.  When Kirk gives the signal, move along the path and pull on the silk string below you as you maneuver it along the slot.  When you get to a hole in the slot, pull the first knot in the string through the hole and continue on to the next hole.  At each hole, you can only pull enough of the string to get past one knot, and you may not fall off the walkway or let go of the string.
"The first player to reach the end of the walkway and pull the spider through the space at the end? or the one that's further along at the end of 60 seconds? wins."
The camera segues over to Kirk, who picks up Kenny?s spider and takes a look at it. "I've never seen a spider this big," he remarks, putting it down with a joking disgusted look on his face. "So let's put 60 seconds on the clock." With a bang, a countdown clock appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen.  Kirk then takes a few steps to the side to get out of the camera frame, and the camera pans up to show the two boys on top of U-shaped tracks raised several feet off the ground by support beams. "On your marks, get set, GO!"
Instantly, Kenny and Justin take off for the spot on the tracks where the first round hole is located, dragging the spiders along the floor several feet below them.   Both players move fast, and in only nine seconds, they not only make it to the first hole, but also pull the first knot in the rope up through the hole.  They continue this quick pace for a while, but Kenny manages to progress from the second hole with 43 seconds remaining, while Justin remains there for a few more seconds.
?Just like that, they?re halfway there!? Kirk remarks as the boys take the U-turn to get to the other part of the track, their spiders now hovering a little above the ground. ?They gotta make the turn? and they?re only two holes away from the finish!? Kenny soon pulls the third knot through the second-to-last hole with 33 seconds remaining, and pauses for a second before continuing on towards the final hole before the finish line.  Justin leaves the third hole with 29 seconds on the clock.  The last stretch of track before the fourth and final hole is a bit longer than any other leg of the path, but Kenny reaches the hole with 26 seconds to go.  Justin, who may be running out of stamina, gets to the last hole with nineteen seconds left, but just before Kenny pulls the fourth knot through his hole and walks down the last part of the path to get to the large space that marks the finish line. ?Blue Barracudas leading, can the Green Monkeys catch up?? Kenny pulls on the rope until the spider is in his hands; Justin pulls the last knot through his hole with ten seconds remaining, but only a couple seconds later, Kenny pulls the spider up onto the track and ends the game.
?That?s it! Let?s check it out!? Kirk announces, running back onscreen. ?C?mon down here guys!? The boys walk off the edge of their tracks, initially suspended at level with the tracks thanks to their support cords, but are eventually lowered to the floor below, where spotters disconnect the support cords and the harnesses. ?The Blue Barracudas got their spider up through the space before time ended, so they get a half a Pendant of Life!? The audience temporarily applauds as Kirk and Kenny high-five. ?Green Monkeys can catch up in the next game.  Olmec, tell us about Temple Game? #2.?

Olmec continues:
"Arachne wove many intricate tapestries during her life, but when she was turned into a spider, she could only weave webs.  In this game, you will need to gather four of Arachne's old tapestries, which will be sold later.  When Kirk gives the signal, climb the tower, grab a tapestry from the top, stick it to your helmet, and climb back down and place it in your bin.  Then, climb back up and do it again.
"The first player to remove all four tapestries from the top of the tower? or the player that gathers the most of Arachne's tapestries in 60 seconds? wins."
"Ah, what a tangled web we weave," comments Kirk as the camera fades over to him. "Let's put 60 seconds on the clock?" The countdown clock appears onscreen, and additionally, a blue half-Pendant appears in the upper-left corner as Kirk dashes off to the side. "On your mark, get set, GO!"
Crystal and Jacqui latch onto the columns in front of them, lock their legs and inch their way up towards the capitals.  At the beginning of the game, the girls are even, as both get the first tapestry with 53 seconds remaining and prepare to descend back down the column.  Jacqui makes it back down a little faster than Crystal, however, and places the first tapestry a second sooner than her, at the :46 mark.  From there, the gap between the girls begins to widen ever so slightly, as Jacqui reaches the second tapestry with about 39 seconds to go, but Crystal takes about three seconds to catch up.  Jacqui brings it down and places it in the bin at the halfway mark, with Crystal still barely trailing her.
?Green Monkeys? Blue Barracudas? it?s really close!? Kirk remarks as the players start back up the columns for the third time.  Crystal starts closing the gap again this time, and both girls grab their third tapestry at :22.  But, she slows down again during the descent, and Jacqui beats her to placing the third tapestry with fifteen seconds to go. ?Green Monkeys need just one more to win, can they make it?? Jacqui returns to the top of the column and grabs the fourth tapestry (:09!!) just as Crystal is starting up it for the final time.  However, just as Crystal gets to her final tapestry and sticks it to her helmet, Jacqui places her final tapestry in the Green Monkeys? bin with two seconds to go.
?That?s it!? declares Kirk, running over. ?That?s it!? Spotters arrive to help the girls out of their harnesses and support cords; Crystal slides back down her column as they walk over. ?The Blue Barracudas got three tapestries before time ended, but the Green Monkeys? Jacqui got her last one just before time ran out, so she gets a half-Pendant! It?s all tied up!? The audience cheers for Jacqui as she and Kirk high-five. ?The next game is worth a full Pendant, and whoever wins it goes on the Temple Run.  It?s the third and final game, so Olmec: Tell us about Temple Game? #3.?

Olmec narrates:
"Arachne's tapestries were often large and included marvelously detailed scenes? although they were sometimes disrespectful and earned her punishment at Athena's hands.  Athena tore up Arachne's tapestry after their competition, and when Kirk gives the signal, you and your partner must climb along the tapestry and maneuver the chain along the slot until you reach the tear in the tapestry, then pass through.
"The first team to free themselves from the tapestry? or the team that's further along at the end of 60 seconds? wins."
"This is the second-biggest tapestry I've ever seen!" Kirk remarks as the camera transitions over to him standing in front of the vertical mazes and the players chained to them. "This is for the Temple, so let's put 60 seconds on the clock?" The countdown clock appears onscreen, and Kirk moves off to the side so as to not obscure the players in any way. "On your marks, get set, GO!"
The game begins, and the team players start tracing the path around the vertical maze, but after a few seconds, a speed gap between the two teams becomes apparent.  The Green Monkeys pass through the first metal loop with about 45 seconds remaining, while the Blue Barracudas, who have to frequently adjust their ill-fitting harnesses, have slowed down enough that they are still one turn away from the loop at that point.
?This game?s tough, it?s all about communication? but the Green Monkeys look like they got it!? Kirk comments with about forty seconds on the clock.   The Blue Barracudas attempt to speed up, but the harnesses remain a recurring problem, and they Green Monkeys hold onto their lead.  They move through the second loop with 33 seconds to go; the Blue Barracudas are trailing by about six or seven seconds at this point. ?Green Monkeys just gotta make one more turn?!? A little more time passes, and with twenty seconds on the clock, the Green Monkeys make it through the third metal loop, pass through the giant space in the board and finally escape.  At that point, the Blue Barracudas are still a U-turn or two away from the final metal loop.
?That?s it! That?s the end of it!? Kirk comments, reappearing onscreen to meet the Green Monkeys; the indicators disappear from the screen and spotters arrive to free the Blue Barracudas from the board a lot more quickly. ?The Green Monkeys made it out first, so that gives them the full Pendant, giving them a Pendant and a half, the Blue Barracudas had a half.   The Green Monkeys are goin? to the Temple!? Justin and Jacqui high-ten multiple times before Kirk goes over to talk with the Blue Barracudas. ?The Blue Barracudas gave it a gallant effort.  We got a nice gift for them and here?s what it is.? Kenny and Crystal will each be receiving a $100 U.S. Savings Bond provided by Skechers.
When the camera cuts away from the consolation prize, only Kirk and the Green Monkeys are still standing in front of the equipment for the third Temple Game. ?We?ll see if the Green Monkeys can make it through Olmec?s Temple and retrieve the Weaving Shuttle of Arachne,? he says, ?right after this!? The camera zooms in on the Weaving Shuttle in the Den of Totem Poles, at which point the show?s logo reappears and the camera fades to commercial.

Rediscovery EP: The Weaving Shuttle of Arachne
« Reply #3 on: August 20, 2010, 05:23:21 PM »
When the camera fades in from commercial, the show's logo is superimposed over a close-up of the stage-left headstone in the Graveyard of Ships, and its inscription ("Here lies Blackbeard, the wickedest pirate to ever sail the Seven Seas") is easy to read.  The pendant splits, the title fades into the distance and the camera segues to Kirk standing in front of the Temple's stairs, with Justin and Jacqui to his right. "Welcome back to Legends!" he says to the camera. "The Green Monkeys have proven themselves worthy and earned the right to enter the Temple.  But first, Olmec's gonna give them some information to help them retrieve the Weaving Shuttle of Arachne."
Olmec begins to give the rundown:
"You could start by running up to the Room of the Ancient Masks.  Push in the correct mask, and pass into the Pit of Despair.  There you must choose your next path.  You could race up into the Observatory, read the instructions on the far wall with the telescope and follow the instructions to open the door to the Central Dock.  Assemble the ship, and pass into the Den of Totem Poles.  Next, you might climb down or try to enter the SHRIIIIIIINE? of the Silver Monkey.  Assemble the statue, and you may be headed for the Pirate's Cove! Place the torch in the correct holder to go back, or spin the ship's wheel and enter the Graveyard of Ships.
"Stand on the correct grave to go upstairs? but beware the Temple Guard that might be haunting one of the graves! Or, plow through the wall and into the Viper's Nest.  Reach into the snake jars and find the key, and you'll enter the Bamboo Forest! If you escape, you might have a chance to enter the Cannon Room.  Load the three cannonballs into the cannon, and if the correct door is unlocked, you can crawl back through the Pit and finally climb through the Cave, rrrrace down the STAIRS and back through the Temple Gate.  The choices are yours and yours alone!" Olmec pauses for a second. "You won 1 ? Pendants in the Temple Games.  Who's going first?"
"I am," says Jacqui, raising her hand in the air.
"Very well, Jacqui!" replies Olmec as Kirk hands out the Pendants of Life. "When Kirk gives the signal, you'll race through the gates into the Temple and make your way towards the Weaving Shuttle.  Hidden inside the Temple are three secret passages that may lead you into the Bamboo Forest, as well as Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms.  You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on BUT? if you're caught without a Pendant, you'll be taken out of the Temple? and it'll be Justin's turn to enter and try his luck.  Hidden somewhere in the Temple is the other half of your Pendant.  If you can find it and you're carrying the other half, you will get an extra life.  If you can reach the Shuttle, all the doors of the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish.  Return through the gates with the Weaving Shuttle of Arachne in three minutes, and you will both be handsomely rewarded? and here's how!"
?   For just getting into the Temple, they're both going to get a skateboard provided by Vans.
?   If they grab the Shuttle within three minutes, they're going to get a Gibson Epiphone S310 electric guitar.

"Let's get these Green Monkeys on that cruise!" Kirk says before turning to Justin. "Now, Justin: Before we get started, I wanna know how you're gonna get to that Shuttle."
"Um? well, we're gonna start in the top," he answers, "go across the? um, bridge? up across the?"
"Through the Observatory?" Kirk offers.
"Yeah, and then? hopefully all the doors will unlock and we can go across."
"And hopefully that works and you guys can get that cruise," Kirk says. "Good luck, guys! Jacqui, let's get you out in front.  Put your mouthpieces in.  Let's put three minutes on the clock?" The clock appears onscreen. "Olmec, lower your gate!"
Olmec groans gutturally as he lowers the gate; the faint orange lights under him are turned off.
"On your mark, get set, GO!"

?There goes Jacqui! Up into the Temple!? Kirk declares as Jacqui runs up the steps and enters the Room of the Ancient Masks.  She pushes in the stage-right mask on the back wall of the room, but immediately after, something emerges from the door in the back of the room?
?TEMPLE GUARD! Right off the bat!? shouts Kirk as Jacqui stares wide-eyed and screams, looking as if she?s about to jump up. ?Give ?em the Pendant? that?ll get rid of ?im!? Jacqui hesitates for a moment, but hands over her Pendant of Life with a little trouble, and the Temple Guard retreats back through the door (2:42).  While he leaves, she looks over at the single mask on the right wall of the room and pushes it in, opening the door to the Pit of Despair.  Jacqui stops to look around for a moment, then notices the newly-accessible stairway to the Pit and takes off. ?She?s a little thrown? that Temple Guard startled her!? Jacqui chooses the further-from-the-camera of the two catwalks connecting the side ledges of the Pit, and carefully heads across to the Observatory door.  She reaches the door with 2:21 to go and hits the actuator, but the door doesn?t open, so she moves across the side ledge to try the Central Dock door.
?She wanted to go up, but the Center of the Dock?s still open? in she goes, with two minutes fifteen!? The Central Dock door does in fact open, and Jacqui heads through with 2:13 remaining. ?She?s gotta put the ship together!? She goes to the back of the room to grab one of the two masts for the ship, then brings it over to the ship in front of the ladder leading downward and places it in position (2:06).  She then grabs the other mast and crow?s nest on the next trip and places both of them, putting down the crow?s nest first. ?Next time a Temple Guard gets ?er, it?ll be turn for Justin!? Jacqui places the last parts of the ship in position shortly thereafter and completes the ship with just under two minutes on the clock.  Only the door leading down into the Cannon Room opens, and Jacqui climbs down the ladder, but the second Temple Guard jumps out of hiding even before her feet touch the floor (1:51).
?Oh, Temple Guard! Go Justin!? Kirk shouts, and Justin runs up the stairs toward the Room of the Ancient Masks.  He heads down the staircase connecting the room to the Pit of Despair, and jogs across the closer-to-the-front catwalk to reach the Central Dock door (1:33).  He then crawls through to the Central Dock, and climbs down the ladder into the Cannon Room, setting foot in the room with 1:20 remaining when he jumps down from the ladder. ?He?s got his path cleared out, now he?s gotta fill up the cannon to open a door!? Justin looks around the dimly-lit room for the three cannonballs, and quickly spots one that he can load into the cannon (1:17). ?Somewhere in the Temple, there?s another half-Pendant.? Justin loads a second cannonball in the cannon (1:08), then looks around for the third while holding onto the ladder in case he might trip over it. ?Can he find it? Will he need it?? When the final cannonball is placed in the cannon, the tip of the fuse on the cannon lights up, and the door leading into the Bamboo Forest is the only one that opens.
?He?s got one minute! He?s really gotta move,? Kirk narrates as Justin climbs through into the Bamboo Forest, ?and right now he?s right under the Shuttle of Athena!? Justin quickly makes his way through each of the three ?screens? of interlocking bamboo poles, easily finding openings until he reaches the other side of the room with 49 seconds on the clock.  He hits the actuator for the closer-to-the-foreground crawl tube, opening a door to the Viper?s Nest.  As he slides through, however, the camera zooms in on the half-Pendant in the door?s actuator (0:42) before cutting to Justin in the Viper?s Nest.  Immediately, he pushes down the rock wall and enters the Graveyard of Ships with 39 seconds remaining, and then looks around for a second. ?Step on the graves!? Justin goes to the back of the room, and puts his feet on the actuator embedded in the stage-left of the two graves. ?You gotta?? Kirk, however, fails to finish his sentence, as the skeletal arms protruding from the ground come to life and grab Justin?s ankles with 32 seconds on the clock.
?Ough, that?s it!? Kirk remarks, Jacqui by his side. ?He only had a half-Pendant, it?s all over?  He didn?t find the other half, it was in the Bamboo Forest! But they both gave it a great effort, they still get the skateboards and we enjoyed having them.  Tune us again next time for more adventure and another great Legend of the Hidden Temple! Buh-bye!? Jacqui and Kirk wave to the camera as it zooms out; Justin eventually joins them.  Otherwise, the camera displays several detail shots of foliage around the Temple, the half-Pendant in the Bamboo Forest and the ship in the Central Dock as the credits roll.

Rediscovery EP: The Weaving Shuttle of Arachne
« Reply #4 on: August 20, 2010, 05:29:46 PM »
Episode Summary
Episode 102px]

Name of Artifact: The Weaving Shuttle of Arachne
Season: 3
Layout: 2 (12 overall)
Result: Triple seizure
Time Remaining: 0:32
Team: Green Monkeys
Pendants Won: 1 ?
Location of Artifact: The Den of Totem Poles

There were multiple moves that the team could have made to possibly avoid this outcome.  Jacqui was a tad hesitant, but overall less to blame for the outcome.  One could argue that she would have prevented the loss had she started in the Cave, but her decision to start in the Room of the Ancient Masks actually saved the team some time getting to the only open door in the Pit of Despair.  She was soon taken out in the Cannon Room with just under two minutes to go.

Justin made good time through the rooms, but he failed to notice the half-Pendant on an actuator in the Bamboo Forest.  It's also possible that he could have gone up from the Viper's Nest, which could have benefited the team even more.  Instead, he bust through the wall to the Graveyard of Ships, where a Temple Spirit stopped him as he opened the doors leading up from the room.  It's a shame, because there was probably enough leftover time to grab the Shuttle.

Trivia and Records:
This is the third and final time that a Temple Spirit ends a Temple Run, and the only time this occurs in the Graveyard of Ships? the other two times were "The Iron Helmet of Rurik" (Season 2, Layout VI) and "The Magical Thread of Ariadne" (Season 2, Layout VIII), in both of which the final seizure occurred in the Knights' Barracks.
