Author's Note: This is one of the episodes of my independent project, Legends: The Rediscovery.  More information on the project can be found by following this link.

Episode 96px]

The camera swerves through a thick rainforest, and after multiple turns, it eventually stops in front of an ancient temple.  The eyes of giant stone head next to the temple gate light up red as he begins to speak:
"LEGENDS OF THE HIDDEN TEMPLE!"
The show's logo forms as two halves of a Pendant of Life come in from the sides of the screen and merge; the show's name appears above the logo as the camera pans across the entire temple.
"With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is NOW!"

On this final word, Kirk emerges from a thick patch of jungle plants and shrubs, then runs into the foreground and up a wide set of steps to greet the crowd. "Thank you! Thank you very much! Nice to see you! Thank you, Olmec! Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple.  The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards.  Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures of his temple.  Which one are we gonna hear about today?"

Faint orange lights underneath Olmec turn on, and the camera cuts to a close-up of him as he replies:
"The legend of the Inspirational Mask of Mozart."

"Ooh, the Inspirational Mask of Mozart!" Kirk says in response as the camera cuts back to him. "Well, the legend is set, and one of these six teams will have the chance to retrieve the Mask.  Will it be:
"Mark and Kelsey of the Red Jaguars?" the camera pans to each team in order, their first names briefly appearing at the bottom of the screen?
"William and Marissa of the Blue Barracudas,
"Matt and Tiffany of the Green Monkeys,
"Jared and Erin of the Orange Iguanas,
"Michael and Autumn of the Purple Parrots,
"Or Alejandro and Haley of the Silver Snakes?"

"They'll have to pass some tough physical and mental tests," Kirk says, "and in the end, only one team will earn the right to enter Olmec's Temple.  But first, they'll have to cross the Moat, and here's how they'll have to do it today?
"Each team is standing in front of five steps.  When I say 'Go,' one player from each team will move to the first step, then keep moving until he makes it across, but if he takes too long, the steps will sink and he'll fall in, and he'll have to go back and start again.  Once the first player's across, it's his partner's turn."
"As soon as the second player jumps down onto the deck, it's his job to run over here and hit the gong." He hits the top button on the Red Jaguars' gong? which lights up red? to demonstrate. "The first four teams to hit their gongs will be going into the next round.  Hey teams: Are you ready?"
The players all cheer and shout in response.
"Olmec, are you ready?" asks Kirk.
"But of course!" Olmec replies.
"All right, then!" Kirk says in response. "On your marks, teams, get set, GO!"

Immediately, the first players on each team (for each team except the Blue Barracudas, their male players) reach out for the first step and start to make their way across the Moat.  After about ten seconds, there is only a slight gap between the players? the male Orange Iguana and male Purple Parrot are the only players that have advanced to the fourth step, while the rest are still at the third.  They make it to the other side in only seventeen seconds, with the female Blue Barracuda right behind them.
?This is all about speed!? Kirk remarks as the other teams get their first players across, one by one. ?They gotta move fast or they?re gonna sink? down!? The last team to get a player across is the Green Monkeys, twenty-eight seconds into the round.  For the most part the players move quick enough from one step to the next, but the female Silver Snake starts off slowly and sinks just before she can move from the first step to the second, so she is forced to wade back to the deck behind her and retry.  Soon after, however, the female Orange Iguana makes it onto the deck, and hits her team?s gong after a full thirty-four seconds of Moat crossing.
?We got our first team, it?s the? we got two teams? Silver Sna? er, Purple Parrots gotta go back!? Kirk frantically remarks as the Blue Barracudas ring their gong three seconds after the Orange Iguanas, but the female Purple Parrot sinks down to the water level on the second-to-last step and has to retry.  After forty-five seconds, the Red Jaguar is about to leave her final step before the deck; the Green Monkey and Silver Snake, having moved much faster now, are leaving the fourth step for the fifth.  Soon after, it?s the Red Jaguars who place third, while the female Green Monkey takes too long on the final step, sinks and has to restart.  A moment later, the Silver Snakes hit their gong anyway, ending the Moat crossing after fifty seconds.
?We got our four teams right here!? announces Kirk, and the camera switches to him congratulating the excited Red Jaguars around their gong. ?Red Jaguars made it across? it was down to the wire, but they?re going on to the Steps of Knowledge, along with the Blue Barracudas?? the camera goes down the line to show each qualifying team, with Kirk stopping momentarily for applause? ?and the Orange Iguanas? and the Silver Snakes! The Green Monkeys and the Purple Parrots each gave it a great effort, it was a close match, and we got a great gift for them and here?s what it is.?
Dee reads the consolation prize:
?Look at the entertaining fun you?ll have when you strap on Moon Shoes! Super excitement is yours when you bounce higher than ever! Don?t leave earth without Moon Shoes, from Big Time Toys!?

Rediscovery EP: The Inspirational Mask of Mozart
« Reply #1 on: July 30, 2010, 05:37:09 PM »
The screen wipes to show Kirk standing with the four remaining teams at the top of the Steps of Knowledge. "As the quest continues," Kirk explains, "it's time for Olmec to tell us about the Inspirational Mask of Mozart.  But pay attention, teams, because your knowledge of the legend can bring you a step closer to Olmec's Temple."
Olmec begins to tell the legend:

"One of the greatest classical composers of all time was the Austrian, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.  He was born in Salzburg and quickly learned to play piano and violin among other instruments, and as a teenager he became a court musician in his hometown.  Many of his compositions are still known today, ranging from operas like The Magic Flute and Don Giovanni to symphonies and string quartets.  But like all artists, he sometimes had slow days?
"Mozart loved to dance as much as he loved to compose or play music, and legend has it that one night, frustrated with his work, he left his house in Vienna to attend a masquerade ball.
" 'O mein Gott, I'm going to be late!'
"He rushed out of the house, and as he was making his way to the concert, a gust of wind blew by and scooped the mask right off his face.
" 'O nein ! Come back!' he shouted, trying to reach for the mask, but it blew farther and farther out of reach. 'How am I supposed to get into ze ball now?'
"Just then, a woman came over from in the distance as it started to rain.
" 'Are you? You're Mozart, aren't you? Vhat seems to be ze metter?'
" 'I was heading to ze ball in ze palace, but I lost my mask.  Can you help me get it back?'
" 'Actually, I haff a spare.'
"She handed him a mask that was decorated with storm clouds and lightning.
" 'Mein Name ist Constanze, by ze vay.'
"Mozart put on the mask and went into the ball with Constanze.  Thinking of the mask, Mozart named one of his dances 'The Thunderstorm,' and he and Constanze got married.  The mask was hung in their home, but when they died, it made its way to the Temple.  Your quest is to find the Inspirational Mask of Mozart and bring it back here."

"Thank you Olmec," Kirk says after Olmec finishes telling the legend. "So tell us: Where is the Mask of Mozart?"
Olmec replies:
"The Inspirational Mask of Mozart can be found in the SHRIIIIIINE of the Siiiiiilver MOOON-key!" The camera zooms in on a thundercloud-decorated mask perched on the front pedestal in the Shrine of the Silver Monkey, then fades back to Kirk.

"All right!" Kirk replies, trying? but failing? to hold back a laugh. "Teams, in a minute, Olmec will ask you a question.  If you think you know the answer, I want you to stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you.  If you're right, you're gonna move down to the next level, but if you're wrong or run out of time, I'll give the other teams a chance." Kirk starts walking down the steps as he continues. "The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec's Temple.  Herr Olmec, ve're all ready for your first question."

Olmec begins:
?According to legend, which of these did Mozart lose: A music book, A mask???
A stomp by Mark interrupts Olmec: ?A mask.?
?Correct.?
?Nice job, Red Jaguars, step down!? Kirk calls out, and the Red Jaguars move down to the second step. ?Next question.?

Olmec asks:
?Was the mask needed for a: Play, Masquera???
Alejandro cuts Olmec off this time: ?A? costume party? a masquerade ball???
?Correct.?
?Silver Snakes, step down!? Kirk remarks, and the Silver Snakes too move down to the second level. ?Remember, we?re looking for two teams.  Next question, Olmec!?

Olmec follows up with:
?Was Mozart born and raised in: France, Aus???
Marissa rings in early: ??Austria???
?Correct,? says Olmec in response.
?Blue Barracudas, step down!? Kirk encourages, and the Blue Barracudas do so. ?It?s a three-way tie on the second step! Olmec, next question, please.?

Olmec asks:
?In our legend, Mozart named a composition after the new mask someone gave him.  Did he call it: The Thunderstorm; Mars, the Bringer of War or Moonlight Sonata??
After a moment of hesitation, Erin gongs in: ?The Thunderstorm???
?Correct,? Olmec answers.
?It?s all tied up on the second step!? narrates Kirk as the Orange Iguanas join the three other teams on the third-to-last step. ?This match is heating up? fast! Olmec, next question!?

Olmec now asks:
?According to our legend, did the woman who gave Mozart the new mask: Never see him again, Happen to be???
Erin buzzes in again: ?She? married him.?
?That is correct,? affirms Olmec.
?Orange Iguanas are now just one step away from the Temple Games! Great comeback!? remarks Kirk as the Orange Iguanas move down to the third step. ?Next question!?

Olmec asks:
?Which of these was an opera written by Mozart: La Boh?me, The Ring of the Nibelung or The Magic Flute??
Just after Olmec finishes the third choice, Mark stomps down and answers: ?The Magic Flute.?
?That is correct.?
?It?s all tied up on the second-to-last step! Now the Red Jaguars are one step away!? The Red Jaguars move down to the penultimate level. ?The other teams can catch up, plenty of time.  Olmec, continue!?

Olmec does so by asking:
?Which of these instruments did Mozart learn to play at a young age: Violin, Double bass or French horn??
Hesitantly, Alejandro steps in: ?The? violin.?
?That is correct,? says Olmec in response.
?Silver Snakes, step down! You?re one step away from the Temple Games!? explains Kirk as the Silver Snakes follow suit. ?Can the Blue Barracudas tie it up? Next question, Olmec!?

Olmec?s next question is this:
?In which Austrian town did Mozart live as a child: Graz, Innsbruck or Salzburg??
Erin hits the marking first: ?Uh? Salzburg???
?THAT IS CORRECT!? shouts Olmec in response, prompting the Orange Iguanas to jump down to the bottommost step.
?We got our first team moving on to the Temple Games; it?s the Orange Iguanas!? Kirk announces as Erin and her partner begin celebrating by high-fives and hugs. ?We still need one more team, who?s it gonna be: the Red Jaguars, the Blue Barracudas or the Silver Snakes? Next question, Olmec!?

Olmec then asks:
?Was Mozart?s wife named: Lorelei, Constanze or Musetta??
Alejandro buzzes in: ?Musetta???
?Incorrect.?
Mark then rings in: ?Con?s-stantsa???
?THAT IS CORRECT!? booms Olmec, and the Red Jaguars also hop down onto the bottom step.  Kirk runs back onscreen before the teams start celebrating with one another, however.
?We got our two teams right here!? he announces as he hops up onto the bottommost step and turns around to face the camera, allowing the two teams to celebrate in front of him. ?The Red Jaguars and the Orange Iguanas! Gimme some five!? He pauses to high-five the boy from the Red Jaguars. ?The Blue Barracudas, Silver Snakes? they gave it a great effort too, and here?s what we got for them.? William, Marissa, Haley and Alejandro will each be receiving a custom Legends of the Hidden Temple watch provided by Armitron.
The camera cuts away from the consolation prize and shows Kirk, the Red Jaguars and the Orange Iguanas at the bottom of the Steps of Knowledge once more, but with the Blue Barracudas and the Silver Snakes nowhere to be seen this time. ?These two teams will be playing for the right to enter Olmec?s Temple,? he says, ?right after this!? The camera zooms in on the vaguely human-like, markings-covered bottommost face on the stage-right pole in the Den of Totem Poles; the show?s logo reforms and the camera fades to black for commercial.

Rediscovery EP: The Inspirational Mask of Mozart
« Reply #2 on: July 30, 2010, 05:41:57 PM »
When the camera fades in from commercial, the show?s title card is placed over a shot of the torch protruding from the left wall of the Pirate?s Cove.  The pendant logo splits, the title fades into the distance and the camera segues to Kirk standing in front of the Pit of Despair with the two remaining teams.
?Welcome back to Legends!? he says. ?Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest, so let?s get to know our two teams.? He turns to the left side of the screen to talk to the Orange Iguanas, starting with a green-eyed girl with freckles and her blond hair in a ponytail. ?On the Orange Iguanas, we have Erin.  How old are you??
?Thirteen,? she answers.
?And I understand you like to read and you run track, but you wanna be Miss USA someday,? Kirk reads off the index card in his hand. ?Tell me about that.?
?Well, my parents put me in beauty pageants when I was little,? explains Erin, ?and it was pretty fun? I think I wanna try a bigger pageant when I?m older.?
?All right, well good luck,? Kirk comments before moving to the left extreme of the screen to interview a slightly overweight boy with short brown hair and hazel eyes. ?And also on the Orange Iguanas, we have Jared.  How old are you??
?Thirteen,? he answers.
?And it says here you?re into skateboarding and rock climbing,? Kirk reads. ?Which do you like better??
?Prob?ly? rock climbing.?
?And how?d you get into that??
?Well,? Jared explains, ?I guess I got it from my dad and my older brother, they do a lot of hiking and mountain climbing and stuff so I? kinda joined them.?
?Sounds cool,? Kirk replies. ?We got a determined team, so let?s hear it for the Orange Iguanas!? The audience applauds for a few seconds, and Kirk turns around to talk with the girl on the Red Jaguars, who has hazel eyes and long, straight auburn hair. ?And on the Red Jaguars, we have Kelsey.  How old are you??
?Thirteen,? she replies.
?And it says here you play basketball and you want to be a model,? Kirk says. ?Why?s that??
?Um?? Kelsey thinks for a second, ?a lot of people tell me I look good or I should be one, and other than that? it sounds like it?ll be cool.?
?And that?s good reason to try it,? replies Kirk with a chuckle.  He then moves to the right extreme of the screen to talk to the slightly-taller-than-average, brown-eyed, curly-haired blond that is Kelsey?s partner. ?And Mark, how old are you??
?Fourteen.?
?And I hear you play soccer and you like to skateboard too,? reads Kirk. ?Which is your favorite??
?Skateboarding? I?ve been doing that for six years.?
?What?s your best trick??
?Prob?ly a 900? I had to work real hard to master that,? Mark laughs.
?We got a tough team here,? Kirk says, moving back toward the center of the screen. ?Let?s hear it for the Red Jaguars!? Mark and Kelsey applaud along with the cheering audience.

"You guys ready to play?" asks Kirk.
"YEAH!" The players all shout in unison as a response.
"Hey, that was pretty good!" Kirk laughs. "Okay, so girls, go get set up for the first Temple Game over there?" he points to an indefinite spot off the left side of the camera, and Kelsey and Erin start to walk off? "and you guys can go set up for the second Temple Game? over there." When Kirk points off to the right somewhere, Jared and Mark follow his gesture and walk offscreen in that direction.  Kirk then turns back towards the camera. "In the Temple Games, teams are competing to win?" he opens a pouch and pulls out a small gold medallion to show to the camera? "Pendants of Life.  The winning team will need those Pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded Temple Guards as they make their way through the Temple.  There are three Temple Games.  Olmec, will you tell us about Temple Game #1?"

Olmec begins:
"Mozart is one of the greatest composers who ever lived, but he was always working on writing new music.  At the top of the tower in front of you are four of Mozart's music books.  When Kirk gives the signal, climb the tower, grab a music book, stick it to your helmet, and climb back down and place it in your bin.  Then, climb back up and do it again.
"The first player to remove all four music books from the top of the tower? or the player that's further along in 60 seconds? wins."
The camera segues over to Kirk. "Let's set the clock for 60 seconds," he remarks, and a countdown clock appears in the bottom-right corner with a banging sound as he takes a few steps offscreen. "On your mark, get set, GO!"
The girls start working their ways up the poles in front of them, but Erin gets off to a noticeably easier start.  She gets the first music book stuck to her helmet with 52 seconds left, just before Kelsey even reaches the top of the pole.  She takes a while to stick the first book to her helmet, but gets it with 46 seconds to go? right before Erin places the first book in the Orange Iguanas? bin. ?Orange Iguanas got their first book, and now she?s going back for another!? On the second trip up, however, both players slow down considerably, and Kelsey even loses grip on the pole as she reaches up for the second music book.  Erin holds onto her lead and sticks the second music book to her helmet with 27 seconds to spare as Kelsey tries to swing back toward the pole and get back on track.
?Orange Iguanas are blazing!? Kirk remarks as Erin shinnies down the pole and places her second book in the team bin a few seconds after getting it on her helmet.  Just before Erin starts back up, Kelsey makes it back to the pole and sticks the Jaguars? second book to her helmet (:21).  She picks up speed as she shinnies down her pole and places her second book in the bin with fifteen seconds to go, slightly closing the gap between the two players; Erin starts down with the third book stuck to her helmet at the :12 mark. ?Orange Jaguars trying to get one more? can they get it in time?? Kelsey catches up with eight seconds left by getting the third music book to attach to her helmet, but Erin gets her third book in the bin just a few seconds later. ?Orange Iguanas need one more to win? but can the Red Jaguars tie it up?? Kelsey tries to scramble down the pole as fast as possible, but time runs out a second before she can get the third book in her bin, as indicated by a pattern of ceiling spotlights.  Kirk runs over to count up the scores and declare a winner, and grabs the two players? bins.
?All right, c?mon down girls, let?s check it out!? he calls as he brings the two bins together. ?Red Jaguars got?? he pulls each of the books out one at a time as he counts? ?that one didn?t make it in time? one? two books.  Orange Iguanas got one, two? three books! Orange Iguanas get a half a Pendant of Life!? The audience cheers for Erin as Kirk goes over to where Kelsey is. ?Red Jaguars can catch up in the next game, it?s worth a half-Pendant.  Olmec, tell us about it.?

Olmec continues:
"As much as Mozart liked to write or play music, he also liked to dance to it, and in this game, you'll need to show some fancy footwork as well.  When Kirk gives the signal, the bridge before you will begin to spin.  Hold on tight, but get to the top as fast as you can.  If you fall off, you'll have to pull yourself back onto the track.  When you reach the top, grab the mask there, then come back down.
"The first player to grab the mask and come back down? or the player that's further along at the end of 60 seconds? wins."
"Our players are gonna be dancing in a circle here? I hope they're ready for that," Kirk remarks. "Let's put 60 seconds on the clock?" The countdown clock reappears onscreen in the bottom-right corner, and an orange half-Pendant appears in the upper-left corner as Kirk takes a few steps back to get out of the camera frame. "This is for a half-Pendant.  On your marks, get set, GO!"
Jared and Mark start to make their ways up the spiral bridges, which each move in opposite directions? Jared?s consists of two full counterclockwise rotations from the starting point, but the platform on which its stands spins clockwise; Mark?s is vice versa.  Working with no railings, Mark progresses fairly quickly, but in only eight seconds, Jared falls off, his harness leaving him suspended in midair as the platform below him spins.  He makes his way back to the starting point when it approaches (:45), but by then, Mark more than halfway to the straight portion at the top. ?Orange Jaguars gotta move if he wants that mask!? After twenty seconds, Mark is only about 135 degrees from the top part of the platform, but Jared is still 540 degrees away.  With :35 remaining, Mark makes it to the top, which consists of a straight portion with two side railings.  Mark holds onto the inner railing and reaches out for the mask, quickly grabbing it.
?Red Jaguars got their mask! Now they just gotta come back down!? Kirk declares, and Mark starts to turn around.  On the way down, he moves in the same direction as the bridge spins, but still moves slowly to be careful.  In the meantime, Jared picks up the pace a little as he continues on to the top, and gets to the railing-adorned top landing with twenty seconds to go.  He finally gets to the mask and grabs it with fifteen seconds left, just as Mark actually walks off the edge of the bridge by mistake. ?Oh! That leaves an open? can the Orange Iguanas catch up?? With a little effort, Mark swings his way back to the bridge, but hoists himself back up onto a slightly higher ledge than before.  By then, however, only eight seconds remain, and Jared is slightly ahead. ?It?s coming down to the wire?!? Mark starts to run at this point.  He nearly repeats his mistake on the way down, but instead moves past Jared and reaches the bottom of the bridge with just one second left.  He steps off as Kirk comes over.
?That?s it! Stop the spinning!? he announces, and as the indicators on the screen disappear, both platforms slow down before completely stopping; at this point, Jared walks down and joins the others. ?Red Jaguars made it to the bottom first.  It was down to the wire, but they get a half a Pendant of Life!? The audience applauds, and Kirk and Mark high-five. ?So it?s all tied up, and we go to the third and final game, worth a full Pendant.  Olmec, tell us about it.?

Olmec narrates:
"According to legend, Mozart lost the mask he was going to wear to a masquerade ball, but his future wife, Constanze gave him a new one.  One player from each team is carrying a mask, and at the top of the mountain is a second mask and a wedding ring.  When Kirk gives the signal, both of you run, jump and climb to get up to the peak of the mountain in front of you any way you can.  Once there, one of you must switch the masks, and the other must grab the wedding ring.  Then, both of you come back down and place the two objects in your bin.
"The first team to grab both objects and come back down? or the team that's further along at the end of 60 seconds? wins."
The camera segues over to Kirk. "This is for the Temple," he declares. "Sixty seconds on the clock?" The countdown clock appears onscreen in the bottom-right corner, an orange half-Pendant in the upper-left and a red half-Pendant in the upper-right.  Immediately after all this, Kirk takes a few steps back as the camera pans out to show the mountain-like structures the teams have to climb. "On your mark, get set, GO!"
As soon as Kirk shouts ?Go,? the players on each team take off in very distinct directions, starting off by running along the outside terraces of the structure.  For the Orange Iguanas, Jared opts for the left extreme of the mountain and Erin the right extreme; the Jaguars send Kelsey off to the left and Mark off to the right. ?There?s many ways up the mountain, you just gotta choose the right ones!? Within seconds, the teams are met with 50-degree climbing walls? gently-sloping, but long.  At this point the Orange Iguanas pull ahead; they get to the top of these walls first, with 48 seconds to go.  Next, they try to jump over a canyon to get to level platforms closer to the central peak, but both miss and land in the U-shaped canyon at opposite ends (:45).
?Red Jaguars trying to catch up, can they do it? Or can the Orange Iguanas keep ahead?? The same problem actually occurs to the Red Jaguars, falling into the canyons with 39 seconds remaining.  They similarly try to regroup by moving towards the middle of the canyon; by the :34 mark, the Iguanas are both near the top of steeper walls on either side of the center of the mountain.  Soon after, they reach the tops and jump down onto the center ridge.  On the other hand, the Jaguars head straight for the center road, and up longer but more direct climbing walls (:26).  The Orange Iguanas also head for the middle of the central ridge to start in on the last sets of climbing walls there, since they are already closer to the highest peak.
?Orange Iguanas almost there, now they need to? they need to get to the top and switch the objects!? The Red Jaguars hit a snag on the way up, when Kelsey loses grip on the second climbing wall and has to restart from the base of it (:16).  Soon after, Jared of the Orange Iguanas is the first player to reach either peak; he takes the mask attached to his helmet and switches it for the one at the top of the mountain, then goes to help Erin finish her climb up the almost-vertical final wall.  She gets over the top ledge and slips on the ring with ten seconds remaining, to assure that she doesn?t lose it. ?Orange Jaguars got both their objects! Ten seconds to come back!? With time ticking down, the Iguanas hurriedly climb back down the slopes, but can only make it halfway down when the countdown clock hits zero and explodes.  The ceiling spotlights flash, and Kirk gestures to both teams? including the Red Jaguars, who were just starting back down the highest climbing wall? as he runs over.
?All right guys? great job by both teams!? he remarks as the teams work their ways back down the mountains. ?They both did good, it was really close? here come the Orange Iguanas now?? The Iguanas? support cords are raised a little to help them climb out of the canyon and over the starting ridge. ?But the Orange Iguanas were furthest along when time ended, so they get the full Pendant, giving them a Pendant and a half? the Red Jaguars?? he pauses to allow the Red Jaguars to climb up onto the starting ridge? ?the Red Jaguars only had a half-Pendant.  The Orange Iguanas are goin? to the Temple!? Jared and Erin hug and celebrate, and Kirk goes over to the Red Jaguars as they hop down onto the studio floor. ?The Red Jaguars gave it a gallant effort, it was a tough match all the way through.  Here?s what we?ve got for them.? Mark and Kelsey will each be receiving Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Optimus Prime and Megatron action figures.
The screen wipes to show Kirk and the Orange Iguanas, who are now free from their harnesses, standing in front of their mountain. ?Now we?ll see the Orange Iguanas make it through Olmec?s Temple, retrieve the Mask of Mozart,? he declares, ?right after this!? The camera pans out, showing only the equipment for the third Temple Game in the arena before going to the Shrine of the Silver Monkey and zooming in on the Inspirational Mask on the side shelf next to the head of the statue.  The show?s logo reforms over it and the camera fades to black for commercials.

Rediscovery EP: The Inspirational Mask of Mozart
« Reply #3 on: July 30, 2010, 05:54:03 PM »
When the camera fades in from commercial, the show?s title graphic is placed over a close-up of the Saturn model? and thereby the Moon and Jupiter models next to it? on the stage-right altar in the Observatory.  The pendant logo splits, the title fades into the distance and the camera segues to Kirk standing in front of the Temple's stairs, with Jared to his left and Erin to his right. "Welcome back to Legends!" he says to the camera. "The Orange Iguanas have proven themselves worthy and earned the right to enter Olmec's Temple.  But first, Olmec's gonna give them some information to help them retrieve the Inspiring Mask of Mozart."
Olmec begins to give the rundown:
"You COULD start? by running up to the Room of the Ancient Masks! Push in the correct mask, and pass into the Pit of Despair.  There you must choose your next path.  You could race up into the Observatory, read the instructions on the far wall with the telescope and follow the instructions to open the door to the Central Dock.  Assemble the ship, and pass into the Den of Totem Poles.  Turn all the faces forward; that may take you below or lead you into the SHRIIIIIIIIINE of the Siiiilver Monkey, where you can grab the Inspirational Mask of Mozart.  Next, you might go into the Pirate's Cove! Place the torch in the correct holder to go back, or spin the ship's wheel and enter the Graveyard of Ships.
"Stand on the correct grave to go upstairs? but beware the Temple Guard that might be haunting one of the graves! Or, plow through the wall and into the Viper's Nest.  Reach into the snake jars and find the key, and you'll enter the Bamboo Forest! If you escape, you might have a chance to enter the Cannon Room.  Load the three cannonballs into the cannon, and if the correct door is unlocked, you can crawl back through the Pit and finally climb through the Cave, rrrrace down the STAIRS and back through the Temple Gate.  The choices are yours and yours alone!" Olmec pauses for a second. "You won 1 ? Pendants in the Temple Games.  Who's going first?"
"I am," says Erin.
"Very well, Erin!" replies Olmec as Kirk hands out the Pendants of Life. "When Kirk gives the signal, you'll race through the gates into the Temple and make your way towards the Mask of Mozart.  Hidden inside the Temple are three secret passages that may lead you into the Bamboo Forest, as well as Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms.  You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on BUT? if you're caught without a Pendant, you'll be taken out of the Temple? and it'll be Jared's turn to enter and try his luck.  Hidden somewhere in the Temple is the other half of your Pendant.  If you can find it and you're carrying the other half, you will get an extra life.  If you can reach the Inspirational Mask, all the doors of the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish.  Return through the gates with the Mask in three minutes, and you will both be handsomely rewarded? and here's how!"
?   For just getting into the Temple, they're both going to get a skateboard provided by Vans.
?   If they can grab the Mask in three minutes, they're also going to get a five-piece drumset, complete with cymbals and provided by Schafer and Sons.
?   And if they can get the Mask out of the Temple before three minutes is up, they'll both win a San Diego getaway! They'll be staying at the Hotel del Coronado, San Diego's only beachfront resort, where they can surf, bike, just relax in the sun or even visit the San Diego Zoo! Hotel del Coronado!

"All right! California? hopefully, here we come," Kirk says before turning to Erin. "Erin, get into position." She does so. "Both of you, put your mouthpieces in.  Olmec, lower the gate!"
Olmec groans gutturally as he lowers the gate; the faint orange lights under him are turned off.
"And let's set the clock for? three minutes." The clock appears onscreen. "On your mark, get set, GO!"

?There goes Erin! Up into the Temple!? Kirk remarks as Erin races up the stairs into the Room of the Ancient Masks. ?She?s going up into the Room of the Ancient Masks, she?s movin? fast!? Erin hits the stage-right mask on the back wall, and a moment later, the stage-left mask on the same wall, but only the door down into the Cave opens with this one.  She reaches for the ladder and climbs down a couple rungs, but then decides against it and goes back up (2:44). ?Oh, she?s going back! She?s got another plan??? Erin runs around the ladder and hits the final mask, located on the stage-right wall of the room. ?Oh, she?s gonna try one more? and now what?s she gonna do?? The direct door into the Pit of Despair still isn?t open, so Erin finally climbs down into the Cave with 2:35 to go. ?She?s fast! I like her style!? She quickly moves through the upper portion of the Cave, hits the actuator for the upper crawl tube and scampers into the Pit of Despair with 2:25 remaining.
?She goes across, she?s gonna try the doors I think?? Kirk commentates as Erin carefully walks across the camera-right ledge of the Pit and then the closer-to-the-foreground of the two catwalks connecting the side ledges.  She approaches the other side in a matter of seconds and hits the actuator for the Central Dock at the 2:15 mark, but the door does not open.  She quickly tries the Observatory door, but with the same result. ?Those doors aren?t gonna open, looks like she?s gotta go down!? Accordingly, Erin jumps off the side of the left ledge into the pit and hits the actuator for the Cannon Room; this door does open, and she slides on her knees into the room with 2:06 on the clock. ?She?s gotta put the cannonballs into the cannon, if she can find them?? Erin puts one hand up to the outside wall of the dimly-lit room and heads around the back, picking up a cannonball in one hand and eventually a second in the other. ?She?s got two, now she?s gotta find one more?? Erin puts the first two cannonballs and loads them into the cannon fairly quickly, then picks the last one up from just behind the cannon. ?She?s got the last one! Good hiding place?? When she finishes loading the cannon, the tip of the fuse lights up and a shaft of light enters the room from above, indicating the open door to the Central Dock (1:51). ?Oh, she?s gotta go up!? Erin looks up at the open door, then starts climbing up the ladder? the camera focuses in on the half-Pendant hung around the fuse of the cannon as she does so, then cuts to her setting foot in the Central Dock with 1:40 left.
?She?s into the Room of the Center Dock, she?s gotta put that ship together?? Kirk explains as Erin moves to the back of the room and grabs the first mast, then brings it to the ship in the front of the room.  She then goes back for the second mast and puts it in position with 1:27 remaining.  She then takes the crow?s nest and places it on the stage-left mast, and with a quick flash, the doors leading out of the room open, revealing the first Temple Guard in front of the ladder leading upward in the process (1:20).  ?Oh, Temple Guard!? Kirk announces as Erin looks over at the back of the room and then hands over her Pendant of Life. ?But that didn?t faze her, and she?s got a Pendant, so she?s moving on!? As the Temple Guard disappears behind the side door, Erin climbs up the ladder into the Observatory, entering the room with 1:11 remaining.  She walks over to the telescope, but before she can put her eye up to the lens, a second Temple Guard emerges from the door in the back of the room and captures her.
?Oh, Temple Guard! Go Jared!? shouts Kirk, and Jared launches into the Temple with just over a minute to go.  He runs up the stairs into the Room of the Ancient Masks, then climbs down into the Cave and scrambles into the Pit of Despair, with 47 seconds to go. ?Right now he?s just following Erin?s? pace?? Ignoring the catwalks altogether, Jared jumps down into the pit and slides on his knees into the Cannon Room (0:40).  From there, he climbs up into the Central Dock, but then crawls into the Den of Totem Poles with twenty-five seconds remaining. ?Now he?s gotta put those totem poles together, and he?s just one room away!? Jared starts from the bottom of the stage-right totem pole and moves towards the top, lining up the three faces and pointing all of them out towards the audience.  The stage-right pole is properly aligned with fifteen seconds to go, and Jared moves to the other one. ?He?s moving fast, ?cause he wants to get that Mask!? Jared repeats the process for the stage-left totem pole, moving slightly faster this time.  Both totem poles are properly oriented with six seconds left, but the door into the Shrine of the Silver Monkey does not open.  Jared goes over to it and pushes for a second, but nothing happens. ?He?s just one room away! The Mask is right next to him!? Jared looks down into the Bamboo Forest, which did open, and starts to climb down the ladder? but we?re out of time!
?Ough, time?s up!? laments Kirk, Erin by his side. ?They had to go the long way, but there just wasn?t enough time.  But they both gave it a great effort, and Erin cleared out a major path.? Erin brushes a stray lock of hair out of her face. ?They both get the skateboards just for playing, and we gotta get outta here.  Check us out next time for another great Legend of the Hidden Temple! Buh-bye!? The camera zooms out as Kirk and Erin both wave to it, and it switches to scenes of the Den of Totem Poles, the Pirate?s Cove and Jared returning to the foreground as the credits roll.

Rediscovery EP: The Inspirational Mask of Mozart
« Reply #4 on: July 30, 2010, 06:01:09 PM »
Episode Summary
Episode 96px]

Name of Artifact: The Inspirational Mask of Mozart
Season: 3
Layout: 2 (12 overall)
Result: Failed acquisition
Team: Orange Iguanas
Pendants Won: 1 ?
Location of Artifact: The Shrine of the Silver Monkey

The production process for Season 3 makes sorting out the Layout XII episodes a bit difficult, since the use of the "correct path" Temple Game's platforms for two slightly different Moat crossings is a bit confusing.  In this episode, the players had to move across a simple path as fast as they could, and the Orange Iguanas, Blue Barracudas, Red Jaguars and Silver Snakes did so without a hitch.  The Steps of Knowledge didn't have much worthy of note except a surprise impression by Kirk (a very bad German accent before prompting Olmec to ask the first question)? even the legend seemed a tad rushed.

The Temple Games, however, were a bit interesting.  The Orange Iguanas won one-and-one-half Pendants from the first and third games? the "pole with items" game and the "parkour" game premiered in "Savonarola's Torch"? but the second game, in which the Red Jaguars won their only half-Pendant, was a brand-new one where the players had to traverse a corkscrew-like path as it spun, with no railings to hold onto for support (except for at the top, when grabbing the item needed to win).  It was interesting to watch, to say the least.

The Temple Run wasn't very good at all, to be honest.  The team was forced to traverse a very snakelike Temple configuration which, because of the paths the players chose, involved entering at least nine rooms and switching floors four times just to get to the Mask? nearly impossible to complete in three minutes.  It didn't help any that Erin hesitated in a number of the rooms, although she was quick to hand over her Pendant of Life to the first guard before being taken out by the second in the Observatory mere moments later.  Jared moved at a fast clip, but he didn't have enough time to progress much further? time ran out as he was starting to descend into the Bamboo Forest from above.

Trivia and Records:
This is the first episode since "The Royal Crown of Louis XIV" (Season 1, Layout IV) where the Red Jaguars and Orange Iguanas face off in the Temple Games? this was the only team combination that did not appear at the Temple Games in all of Season 2.  Also, the Temple Games featured noticeable editing in the way of moving equipment around? there wasn't enough room for all three games' equipment at the same time, so the crew brought out the poles and spiral bridges first, then replaced them with the giant mountain structures for the final game.

Good job. The legend itself was pretty good, and the Temple Games and Run were a great read.

Also, check where Olmec reveals the location of the Mask. Somebody just gave away the location of one of his future artifacts... :P
