Author's Note: This is one of the episodes of my independent project, Legends: The Rediscovery.  More information on the project can be found by following this link.

Episode 95px]

The camera swerves through a thick rainforest, and after multiple turns, it eventually stops in front of an ancient temple.  The eyes of giant stone head next to the temple gate light up red as he begins to speak:
"LEGENDS OF THE HIDDEN TEMPLE!"
The show's logo forms as two halves of a Pendant of Life come in from the sides of the screen and merge; the show's name appears above the logo as the camera pans across the entire temple.
"With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is NOW!"

On this final word, Kirk emerges from a thick patch of jungle plants and shrubs, then runs into the foreground and up a wide set of steps to greet the crowd. "Thank you! Thank you very much! Nice to see you! Thank you, Olmec! Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple.  The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards.  Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures of his temple.  Which one are we gonna hear about today?"

Faint orange lights underneath Olmec turn on, and the camera cuts to a close-up of him as he replies:
"The legend of the Inner-Seeking Stone of Confucius."

"Oh, the Inner-Seeking Stone of Confucius!" Kirk says in response as the camera cuts back to him. "Well, the legend is set, and one of these six teams will have a chance to retrieve the the Inner-Seeking Stone of Confucius.  Will it be:
"Nick and Erica of the Red Jaguars?" the camera pans to each team in order, their first names briefly appearing at the bottom of the screen?
"Mike and Ashley of the Blue Barracudas,
"Anthony and Megan of the Green Monkeys,
"Austin and Madison of the Orange Iguanas,
"Danny and Kali of the Purple Parrots,
"Or Tyler and Vicki of the Silver Snakes?"

"They'll have to pass some physical and mental tests," Kirk says, "and in the end, one team will earn the right to enter Olmec's Temple.  But first, they have to cross the Moat, and here's how they'll do it today?
"Each team is standing in front of five swinging steps: one by itself, and then two pairs.  When I say 'Go,' one player from each team will step out onto the first step, and then he'll pick the left or right step on each of the two pairs until he makes it across.  But then two of the steps are gonna sink if the player steps onto them and then he'll fall in, and then he'll have to go back and try again.  And as soon as the first player's across, then it'll be turn for his partner to make it across."
"As soon as the second player steps onto the deck, it's his job to run over here and hit the gong." He hits the top button on the Red Jaguars' gong? which lights up red? to demonstrate. "The first four teams to hit their gongs will be going into the next round.  Are you ready, teams?"
"YEAH!" The players all cheer and shout in response.
"Olmec, are you ready?" asks Kirk.
"It's go time!" Olmec replies.
"All right!" Kirk says in response. "On your marks, get set, GO!"

The boys on each team (except the Orange Iguanas, who send their female player instead) reach out for the first swinging step as soon as Kirk shouts ?Go.? They all make it to the first step without any problems, but only the Red Jaguar and the Blue Barracuda correctly choose the right step out of the first pair; the rest of the players have to go back and start over.  However, only the male Red Jaguar correctly chooses the left of the last pair of steps on his first try, and he lands on the other side of the Moat after fifteen seconds.  Most of the players guess correctly on their second tries, but the male Silver Snake does not, and has to start over again after sinking one step away from the end.
?This is tough! They gotta remember where they went, but the second players got a path laid out for them now!? Kirk comments as the male Green Monkey and the male Purple Parrot land on the other side of the Moat after about twenty-three seconds spent crossing; the other frontrunners join them soon after.  About thirty-four seconds into the round, the girls on the Green Monkeys and Purple Parrots fall into the Moat? the Monkey for choosing a sinking step, the Parrot for missing a step altogether.  However, after thirty-eight seconds, the girl on the Red Jaguars makes it onto the deck and runs over to her team?s gong to light it up.
?We got the Red Jaguars across, we need three more teams!? remarks Kirk as the other teams continue on; the male Silver Snake finally makes it across after forty-one seconds, just before the male Orange Iguana chooses a sinking step and has to restart. ?And here they come, it looks like it?s gonna be?? His voice trails off, possibly because the teams need more time than he expected.  After fifty-three seconds of Moat crossing, the girls on the Blue Barracudas and Green Monkeys bang their gongs almost simultaneously. ?Still looking for one more team?!? Soon after, the female Purple Parrot, who managed to move faster than the male Orange Iguana, makes it to the other side and locks in for fourth, ending the Moat crossing after fifty-seven seconds.
?That?s it! We got our four teams!? Kirk announces, and the camera cuts to him high-fiving the Red Jaguars by their gong. ?The Red Jaguars BLAZED across, and they?re going on to the Steps of Knowledge, along with the Blue Barracudas?? he holds for applause for each team, while the camera briefly shows that team? ?and the Green Monkeys? and the Purple Parrots! The Orange Iguanas and the Silver Snakes gave it a great effort too.  They?re not going away empty-handed, we got a great gift for them for playing and here?s what it is.?
Dee reads the consolation prize:
?Look at the entertaining fun you?ll have when you strap on Moon Shoes! Super excitement is yours when you bounce higher than ever! Don?t leave earth without Moon Shoes, from Big Time Toys!?

Rediscovery EP: The Inner-Seeking Stone of Confucius
« Reply #1 on: July 26, 2010, 05:07:40 PM »
The camera cuts away from the consolation prize, and now Kirk and the four remaining teams are at the top of the Steps of Knowledge. "As the quest continues, it's time for Olmec to tell us about the Inner-Seeking Stone of Confucius.  But teams, pay attention, because your knowledge of the legend can bring you a step closer to Olmec's Temple."
Olmec begins to tell the legend:

" 'Knowledge is recognizing what you know and what you don't.' This and many other sayings were coined by the Chinese philosopher, Confucius.  Throughout his teachings, he emphasized loyalty towards elders and the past, respect and, most of all, the quest for knowledge.  He even founded the Golden Rule: 'Do unto others what you would have them do unto you.' But legend has it he didn't come up with these ideas so easily?
"China was in a state of political chaos during Confucius's time, and one day, Confucius had enough.
" 'Will this ever end?' he wondered, passing through the garden behind his home on a rainy day. 'We need a good emperor and loyal people? but how can we achieve that and settle everything down?'
"He stopped, and sat in front of a smooth stone among the flowers.  There he stayed, days on end, thinking only about those questions.  Finally, after a week?
" 'I've got it!'
"He stood up and went inside, and began to write.  He wrote non-stop until all his ideas were written down in a collection known as the Analects, and his philosophies are still alive today.  Because Confucius searched inside himself at the stone in the garden, it was named the 'Inner-Seeking Stone,' but it eventually ended up in the Temple.  Your quest is to find the Inner-Seeking Stone of Confucius and bring it back here."

"Thank you Olmec," Kirk replies as soon as Olmec finished telling the legend, "but tell us: Where is the Stone?"
Olmec answers:
"The Inner-Seeking Stone can be found in the Observatory." The camera zooms in on a rather large stone on a pedestal positioned between the two altars in the Observatory, then fades back to Kirk.

"Okay.  Teams," Kirk begins, "in a moment, Olmec will ask you a question.  If you think you know the answer, stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you.  If you're right, you'll move down to the next level, but if you're wrong or you run out of time, I'll give the other teams a chance." Kirk starts walking down the steps at this point, then turns around to face the teams. "The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec's Temple.  All right Olmec, we?re now ready for your first question."

Olmec begins:
?Was Confucius from: Japan, India or???
Danny hits the marking first: ?China.?
?Correct,? says Olmec in response.
?Nice job, Purple Parrots, step down!? Kirk declares, and the Purple Parrots move down the second step. ?Next question.?

Olmec asks:
?Was he a: Physician, Philosopher or Photographer??
Danny rings in again: ?Philosopher.?
?That is correct.?
?Whoo! Just like that, the Purple Parrots are one step away from the Temple Games!? remarks Kirk as the Purple Parrots move down another step, to the penultimate level. ?Next question, Olmec.?

Olmec now asks:
?What is the name of the collection of Confucius?s teachings: Analects, Dialects or Lectures??
After a moment, Anthony gongs in: ?The? uh? Analects???
?Correct,? replies Olmec.
?Green Monkeys, nice job, step down!? Kirk calls out, and the Green Monkeys walk down onto the second step. ?Remember, we?re looking for two teams.  Next question, Mr. Olmec!?

Olmec continues:
?According to our legend, did Confucius come up with his ideas in: The emperor?s palace, His garden or A boat??
Hesitantly, Mike stomps in first and guesses: ?In? his garden.?
?Correct.?
?Blue Barracudas, step down!? On cue, the Blue Barracudas move down to the third-to-last step, beside the Green Monkeys. ?Red Jaguars can still get into this? This match is heating up.  Olmec, next question!?

Olmec asks:
?Which of these is the Golden Rule coined by Confucius: ?Knowledge is recognizing what you know and what you don?t,? ?Do unto others????
A stomp from Danny interrupts Olmec: ?Um? ?Do to others? what you want them to? do to you.? ?
There is brief pause.
?THAT IS CORRECT!?
?We got our first team going on to the Temple Games! It?s the Purple Parrots!? Kirk declares as the Purple Parrots jump down onto the bottom step and start celebrating. ?We?re still looking for one more team, who?s it gonna be: the Green Monkeys, the Blue Jag? Blue Barracudas, or the Red Jaguars? Next question, Olmec!?

Olmec?s next question is this:
?In our legend, what was Confucius thinking about: How a prince should rule over his people, How to end the political unrest of his time or How to set up the perfect democracy??
After a few seconds, Anthony steps in: ?How to? end the political? um, chaos???
?That is correct,? says Olmec in response.
?Green Monkeys now just one step away from the Temple Games!? narrates Kirk as the Green Monkeys move down to the penultimate step. ?Red Jaguars can still catch up.  Next question!?

Olmec then asks:
?Which of these was Confucius?s most important concept: Loyalty to elders and the past, Respect for rituals or The independent quest for knowledge??
Mike attempts to answer: ?Respect for elders???
?Incorrect.?
Nobody else attempts to ring in, and eventually, a bell sounds.
?Time?s up! The correct answer was: The independent quest for knowledge.?
?All right, then, Olmec, continue,? says Kirk.

Olmec does so by asking:
?In the 1970?s, another version of the Analects was found in a Chinese tomb.  Which of these substances was it written on: Stone, Papyrus or Bamboo??
Hesitantly, Erica hits the marking first: ?Bamboo???
?Correct,? replies Olmec.
?Red Jaguars, step down! You?re on the board!? Kirk announces, and the audience bursts into applause as Erica and her partner move down to the second step. ?Next question, Mr. Olmec!?

Olmec subsequently asks:
?Was Confucius alive during the: Qin Dynasty, Zhou Dynasty or Ming Dynasty??
Mike rings in: ?Ming Dynasty???
?Incorrect.?
Erica buzzes in: ?Uh? Zhew Dynasty???
?That IS correct.?
?They?re makin? a comeback! The Red Jaguars are one step away from the Temple Games!? comments Kirk as the Red Jaguars move down to the third level. ?Next question, Olmec!?

Olmec asks:
?Did Confucius live during the: Third and fourth centuries B.C., Fifth and sixth centuries B.C. or Seventh and eighth centuries???
Erica interrupts Olmec once more: ?Fifth and? sixth centuries? ?B.C.??
?THAT IS CORRECT!? Olmec bellows, and the Red Jaguars jump down to the bottom step, beside the Purple Parrots.
?We got our two teams!? Kirk announces, reappearing onscreen and running up the bottom step between the two teams before they start celebrating with each other.  Kirk promptly turns around to face the camera. ?They are the Purple Parrots! And the Red Jaguars! The Blue Barracudas and the Green Monkeys gave it a great effort too.  We got a great gift for them for playing and here?s what it is.? Anthony, Ashley, Megan and Mike will each be receiving a custom Legends of the Hidden Temple watch provided by Armitron.
When the camera cuts away from the consolation prize, only the Purple Parrots, Red Jaguars and Kirk are on the Steps of Knowledge. ?These two teams will be playing for the right to enter Mr. Olmec?s Temple,? says Kirk, ?right after this!? The camera pans out over the audience and zooms in on the swinging steps over the Moat.  During the zoom, the show?s logo reappears, and eventually the camera fades to commercial.

Rediscovery EP: The Inner-Seeking Stone of Confucius
« Reply #2 on: July 26, 2010, 05:12:50 PM »
When the camera fades in from commercial, the show?s title card is placed over a shot of the two graves in the Graveyard of Ships.  The pendant logo splits, the title fades into the distance and the camera segues to Kirk standing in front of the Pit of Despair with the two remaining teams.
?Welcome back to Legends!? he says. ?Now is the time where the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest, so let?s talk to our team players.? He starts on the left side of the screen, with the girl on the Purple Parrots, who has dark hair in a braided ponytail, brown eyes and freckled skin, and is wearing a purple waterproof jacket over her team shirt. ?On the Purple Parrots, we have Callie.  How old are you, Callie??
?Eleven,? answers Kali.
?And I understand you like skateboarding,? Kirk reads off the index card in his hand. ?Tell me about that.?
?Well,? Kali explains, ?I got a couple older brothers, they do that, so they started showing me how to skate and I liked it.?
?How long have you been skateboarding??
?About? two years.?
?What?s your best trick??
?Anything,? laughs Kali.
?Ooh, nice,? Kirk comments before moving on to Kali?s slightly taller partner, a short-brown-haired boy with hazel eyes. ?And your partner here is Danny.  How old are you??
?Thirteen,? he replies.
?And I understand you like rock climbing and mountain biking,? Kirk reads. ?Tell me about that? uh, those.?
?Um,? explains Danny, ?well, I?ve been climbing a long time, I used to do BMX biking but I really like it in the mountains? so I started mountain biking.?
?This is a strong Purple Parrots team, folks!? Kirk comments. ?Let?s hear it for ?em!? The audience applauds for a few seconds, and Danny and Kali clap with them.  As the applause begins to subside, Kirk turns to the right side of the screen to talk with the Red Jaguars, starting with a green-eyed girl with glasses and her blond hair tied in a braided ponytail. ?And on the Red Jaguars, we have Erica.  How old are you??
?Twelve,? she says in response.
?And you play an instrument, right?? Kirk asks, holding his microphone up to Erica?s mouth.
?Yes, I play trombone.?
?How long have you been playing that??
?About two years.?
?Maybe you can join a marching band soon.?
?I?m already in one,? Erica answers with a smile.
?Very nice,? Kirk replies.  He then moves further to the right to talk to Erica?s partner, a brown-eyed boy with long, curly dark hair tied back in a ponytail, who is wearing a red waterproof jacket over his team shirt. ?And also on the Red Jaguars? Nick, how old are you??
?Twelve,? he answers.
?And I hear you play basketball, but you also play an instrument,? read Kirk. ?Do you play the trombone too??
?Actually, I play the drums,? Nick replies.
?And how long have you been doing that??
?About? four years,? he answers, looking down at his hands in the process.
?And are you in a band??
?Not yet,? laughs Nick.
?But you?re gonna have to make some music in these Temple Games,? Kirk says, moving back toward the center of the screen. ?Let?s hear it for the Red Jaguars!? The audience briefly applauds for the Red Jaguars, and Nick and Erica high-five during the applause.

"All right, you guys ready to play?" asks Kirk.
"YEAH!? shout the players in response.
"Okay, then go get ready for the Temple Games!" Kirk says, and Nick and Kali walk offscreen in one direction, Erica and Danny in another. "In the Temple Games, each team is competing for?" he opens a pouch and pulls out a small gold medallion to show to the camera? "Pendants of Life.  The winning team will need those Pendants to protect them from the DREADED Temple Guards as they make their way through the Temple.  There are three Temple Games.  Olmec, tell us about Temple Game #1."

Olmec begins:
"According to our legend, Confucius came up with his philosophies by sitting in front of a stone in his garden and thinking.  In this game, you will gather stones for a garden of your own, at the top of the slippery slope behind you.  When Kirk gives the signal, push the first stone up the slope with your backs until you reach the top.  Place the stone there, and water will flow down the slope as you slide back down.  Then, take the next stone and do it again.
"The first player to place all four stones at the top of the slope and slide back down? or the player that's further along after 60 seconds? wins."
"Well, looks like we're off to a rocky start," Kirk comments as the camera fades over to him. "Let's put 60 seconds on the clock." A countdown clock appears in the bottom right of the screen, and Kirk dashes offscreen to the side. "On your mark, get set, GO!"
?There they go! With their backs, they gotta? push their way up the hill with the rocks!?  Early in the round, Kali gets a bit of a lead as Nick has trouble getting started. ?And it?s tough, but it looks like both teams got it!? As the game progresses, Kali has a little trouble moving on and Nick moves slightly ahead of his opponent.  However, at the :28 mark, Nick places his first stone at the top of the ramp and prepares to slide back down for another.  Kali finally places her stone a few seconds later and slides back down.
?Purple Parrots caught up? nice splashing there!? Kirk laughs as Kali slides down the ramp with a trail of water following her (:20).  As soon as she grabs the second stone, she puts it behind her and tries to catch up to Nick, who is now moving a bit faster than before.  With ten seconds to go, Nick is a little more than three-quarters of the way up the slope, while Kali is only a little under halfway to the top. ?Just a few seconds left! Can the Red Jaguars get another one?? With four seconds left, Nick appears at the top, and looks down at Kirk before placing the stone into position with his hands.  Kali is almost at the top when time runs out; Nick is sliding back down as the countdown clock reaches zero, and a pattern of ceiling spotlights flashes to indicate the end of the game.
?That?s it! C?mon down!? Kirk calls out before appearing onscreen; Kali slides back down with a big splash. ?Nice? nice splash!? he laughs as he runs over. ?You got? well, the Purple Parrots got one stone at the top, the Red Jaguars got two just in the nick of time? they get a half a Pendant of Life!? The audience briefly applauds as Kirk and Nick high-five, then Kirk goes over to where Kali is. ?Purple Parrots can catch up in the next game, it?s worth a half-Pendant.  Olmec, tell us about it.?

Olmec continues:
"During Confucius's life, China was deep in political disarray, and many people sought refuge in case things got violent.  When Kirk gives the signal, climb along the wall and maneuver the chain along the slot until you reach the safe place at the end, then pass through.
"The first player to find refuge from the civil wars? or the player that's further along at the end of 60 seconds? wins."
"It's a race to set yourself free? this could be tough," comments Kirk as the camera segues over to him standing in front of the equipment for the game. "Let's put 60 seconds on the clock?" A countdown clock appears onscreen in the bottom-right corner and a red half-Pendant in the upper-right corner, and Kirk runs offscreen to get out of the camera's way. "On your mark, get set, GO!"
On ?Go,? Erica and Danny start making their ways along the vertical mazes, starting by climbing up using the protrusions in the wall.  Danny moves faster than Erica at first, but the harness he is wearing is a little big and starts slipping on occasion, forcing him to stop and adjust it.  Both players, however, get to the first of the three metal loops rather quickly and make their way through them in less than fifteen seconds? Erica makes it through at the :47 mark, but Danny is already through at this point.  Impressively, he moves even faster as he starts to descend along the board, except for a few horizontal parts, to reach the second metal loop.  In fact, he makes it through the second loop with 36 seconds to go, just as Erica starts to approach it.
?Purple Parrots doing fast, they just got one more to go!? narrates Kirk as Erica starts to make her way through the second metal loop. ?But can the Red Jaguars catch up?? She makes it through at the halfway mark, but by then, Danny is approaching the last curve before the final loop and the finish line.  He makes it through the final loop with 24 seconds to go, while Erica is only approaching the last two bends before the loop.
?That?s it! That?s it!? Kirk shouts out, running onscreen again as spotters also appear to unfasten the players? harnesses and the indicators on the screen disappear. ?Red Jaguars and Purple Parrots gave it a great effort, but the Purple Parrots made it through first.  That gives them the half-Pendant of Life!? The audience briefly applauds again as Kirk and Danny high-five. ?So it?s all tied up, a half a Pendant apiece, we go to the third and final game, it?s worth a full Pendant.  Olmec, tell us.?

Olmec narrates:
"Confucius spent a long time writing down his philosophies, but they soon became known to the world.  In this game, you and your partner will share some of his philosophies.  When Kirk gives the signal, one player from each team will grab an ancient scroll, then both of you will climb up the wall.  Transfer the scroll over the wall, and then climb back down and place it in your bin.  Then, grab another scroll and do it again.
"The team that transfers the most scrolls in 60 seconds? wins!"
The camera transitions over to Kirk in front of the teams. "This is for the Temple," he explains. "Let's put 60 seconds on the clock." With a bang, the countdown clock appears onscreen in the bottom-right corner; a purple half-Pendant appears in the upper-left and a red half-Pendant in the upper-right.  Kirk dashes off to the side and eventually out of the camera frame. "On your mark, get set, GO!"
?There they go, they gotta climb the wall and hopefully they?ll get there at the same time!? The Purple Parrots and the Red Jaguars both try to climb up the walls, and Nick and Erica both make it to the top of their wall within only about eight seconds.  However, Kali?s inability to climb slows the Purple Parrots down, and even after fifteen seconds, Danny is still at the top, holding the scroll and waiting for his partner.  The Red Jaguars get the first scroll in the bin with 44 seconds to go, and begin to go back up with another.  They make it to the top of the wall again at the :37 mark and make a second transfer; just as they start back down, Kali finally reaches the top of the Parrots? wall, where Danny has still been waiting for her.
?Purple Parrot left her partner hanging, but now she?s got it!? Kirk remarks as the Purple Parrots transfer their first scroll from Danny to Kali (:31). ?But now the Red Jaguars are ahead, can the Purple catch up?? Erica makes it to the bottom and drops her second scroll in the Jaguars? bin with 29 seconds on the clock, and promptly heads back up the wall again.  The Purple Parrots? first scroll makes it in the bin not too long thereafter.  The Red Jaguars meet for a third transfer with nineteen seconds remaining, as the Purple Parrots scramble to catch up. ?They?re behind, they know they gotta make up some time now!? Kali somehow makes it up the wall quicker this second time; the team meets and makes a second transfer with twelve seconds on the clock.  However, the Red Jaguars? third scroll makes it in the bin by that time, and the team scrambles to try and make one more transfer as the audience starts to count the final seconds.  The Purple Parrots score for a second time with a mere five seconds on the clock, as the Red Jaguars reach the top of their wall again. ?Red Jaguars like clockwork! Can they make this one in time?? The Red Jaguars scramble back down the wall, but not nearly fast enough to reach the base in time.  When the clock reaches zero, some ceiling spotlights flash to indicate the end of the game, and spotters run onscreen to start unfastening the players from their equipment.
?Time?s up! Let?s check it out!? Kirk announces as he runs onscreen and pulls the players? buckets together.  The players walk over as soon as they?re freed from the equipment, and Kali says something to Kirk. ?She?s telling me they didn?t make it, let?s see? Let?s start with the Purple Parrots.  They got?? he reaches into the Purple Parrots? bin and pulls out the scrolls while counting? ?one? two scrolls.  Red Jaguars got?? Kirk now does the same for the Jaguars? bin? ?one, two? three scrolls! The Red Jaguars are goin? to the Temple!? Nick and Erica jump up and down in excitement and high-five while in midair, and Kirk goes over to talk to the Purple Parrots as the audience?s applause starts to subside. ?Purple Parrots gave it a gallant effort, it was a great match and we enjoyed having them both.  But they?re not going away empty-handed, here?s what we got for them.? Danny and Kali will each be receiving a $100 U.S. Savings Bond provided by Skechers.
The camera cuts back from the consolation prize, and now only Kirk and the Red Jaguars are present in front of the equipment for the third Temple Game. ?The Red Jaguars fought hard, and now we?ll see if they can make it through Olmec?s Temple, retrieve that Seeking Stone of Confucius,? says Kirk, ?right after this!? The camera pans up to the Inner-Seeking Stone in the Observatory; the show?s logo then appears and the camera fades to commercial.

Rediscovery EP: The Inner-Seeking Stone of Confucius
« Reply #3 on: July 26, 2010, 05:22:52 PM »
When the camera fades in from commercial, the show?s title graphic is placed over a close-up of the middle, hawk-like face on the stage-left pole in the Den of Totem Poles.  The pendant logo splits, the title fades into the distance.  The camera then segues to Kirk standing in front of the Temple Gate, with Nick and Erica to his right. "Welcome back to Legends!" he says to the camera. "The Red Jaguars have proven themselves worthy and now have earned the right to enter Olmec's Temple.  But first, Olmec's gonna give them some information to help them retrieve the Seeking Stone of Confucius."
Olmec begins to give the rundown:
"You could start by running up to the Room of the Ancient Masks.  Push in the correct mask, and pass into the Pit of Despair.  There you could race up into the Observatory, where you can grab the Inner-Seeking Stone of Confucius.  Next, you might climb down into to the Central Dock, assemble the ship and pass into the Den of Totem Poles.  Turn all the faces forward; that may take you below or lead you into the Shriiiiine of the SIIIIIL-ver Monkey! Assemble the statue, and you may be headed toward the Pirate's Cove! Place the torch in the correct holder to go back, or spin the ship's wheel and enter the Graveyard of Ships.
"Stand on the correct grave to go upstairs? but beware the Temple Guard that might be haunting one of the graves! Or, plow through the wall and into the Viper's Nest.  Reach into the snake jars and find the key, and you'll enter the Bamboo Forest! If you escape, you might have a chance to enter the Cannon Room.  Load the three cannonballs into the cannon, and if the correct door is unlocked, you can crawl back through the Pit and finally climb through the Cave, rrrrace down the STAIRS and back through the Temple Gate.  The choices are yours and yours ALONE!" Olmec pauses for a second. "You won 1 ? Pendants in the Temple Games.  Who's going first?"
"I am," answers Nick.
"Very well, Nick!" replies Olmec as Kirk hands out the Pendants of Life. "When Kirk gives the signal, you'll race through the gates into the Temple and make your way towards the Inner-Seeking Stone of Confucius.  Hidden inside the Temple are three secret passages that may lead you into the Bamboo Forest, as well as Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms.  You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on BUT? if you're caught without a Pendant, you'll be taken out of the Temple? and it'll be Erica's turn to enter and try her luck.  Hidden somewhere inside the Temple is the other half of your Pendant.  If you can find it and you're carrying the other half, you will get an extra life.  If you reach the Stone, all the doors of the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish.  Return through the gates with the Inner-Seeking Stone in three minutes, and you will be handsomely rewarded? and here's how!"
?   For just getting into the Temple, they're both going to get a sports package provided by Regent.
?   If they grab the Stone in three minutes, they're both going to get an Xzibit Video Game Rocker, provided by Dreamseat.
?   And if they can get the Stone out of the Temple before three minutes is up, they'll be going on a Caribbean cruise! Nickelodeon at Sea, aboard the Norwegian Epic, offers two pools and volleyball and basketball courts, day trips to different islands and meet and greets with your favorite Nick characters! Fun for the whole family! Nickelodeon at Sea, by Norwegian Cruise Line!

"I know we wanna get 'em on that cruise? Let's see if they can do it!" Kirk says as the camera cuts away from the grand prize and back to him and the team members.  He then turns to Erica. "So, Erica, tell us: How do you wanna get to the Stone?"
"Well, we're starting in the Cave," explains Erica, "and then we're gonna go across the bottom? then we're gonna try to come back up at the Forest and turn around."
"All right then, I hope that works out," Kirk says. "Nick, you're going first, so get into position.  Mouthpieces in.  Olmec, lower the gate!"
Olmec groans gutturally as he lowers the gate; the faint orange lights under him are turned off.
"Put three minutes on the clock?" The clock slams down in the bottom-right corner. "On your mark, get set, GO!"

?There goes Nick! This guy?s fast!? Kirk remarks as Nick darts up the stairs and slides down into the Cave. ?He knows which way he?s gonna go!? He makes his way towards the lower crawl tube leading left from the Cave, but an arm tugs at his ankles?
?TEMPLE GUARD!? shouts Kirk, as Nick looks over his shoulder at the guard and hands over his Pendant of Life. ?But that didn?t faze him? he?s givin? ?im his Pendant and he can go on!? Nick then goes down towards the lower crawl tube, hits the actuator and crawls into the Pit of Despair with 2:42 on the clock.  Immediately he races across to the Cannon Room door, hits the actuator and slides through, but right after he enters the room, the second Temple Guard jumps out from the corner and seizes him.
?Oh, TEMPLE GUARD! Go Erica!? remarks Kirk, and Erica starts to run up the stairs with 2:31 remaining.  She slides down into the Cave as well, and squirms through to the lower crawl tube, entering the Pit at the 2:12 mark.  Soon after, she scrambles into the Cannon Room and promptly reaches for the half-Pendant hanging from one of the rungs of the ladder in the middle of the room. ?She?s got the other half-Pendant!? The audience?s cheers become louder as Erica starts looking around the room for the three cannonballs (1:57).  She quickly finds the first and places it in the cannon, then searches the back of the room for the others with about 1:49 left. ?She?s having a little trouble?? A couple seconds later, she walks back towards the front of the room with the other two cannonballs, and fully loads the cannon with 1:37 on the clock.  Light floods into the room from both above and the left, and Erica proceeds into the Bamboo Forest. ?She?s going into the Bamboo Forest, with a minute thirty! C?mon Erica!? Erica reaches out for the first screen-like web of bamboo shoots and climbs onto it, then edges her way across to the large opening in the web, located near the back of the room (1:26).  She then climbs onto the middle screen, makes her way towards the top and tries the actuator for the door leading upward from the room (1:17).  However, the door fails to open.
?She wanted to go up, but that didn?t open!? exclaims Kirk. ?She?ll have to find another door?? Erica proceeds through the opening in the second web-screen and then climbs onto the last one, moving down and closer to the front of the room to reach the opening there.  She eventually reaches the far side of the room with a little over a minute remaining, hits the actuator for the upper crawl tube and heads on into the Viper?s Nest with 58 seconds to go. ?She?s gotta pull the snakes out of the jars to find the right key!? Erica moves over to the front of the room and opens the rightmost jar, but two ?snakes? jump up, startling her a little. ?Woah! She?s a little frazzled?? Kirk fights back a laugh, ?but she?s still looking!? The middle jar doesn?t contain any snakes, but it does hold the key, and Erica takes the key with 52 seconds on the clock, then goes to the leftmost of the three golden doors in the back of the room. ?She?s gotta try a door, but I think she?s got it!? The door opens, and Erica makes her way up the ladder behind it.  She then emerges in the Shrine of the Silver Monkey at the 0:41 mark.
?She?s into the Shriiiiiiiine of the SIIIIIIIL-ver Monkey!? narrates Kirk as Erica reaches up onto the shelves and grabs the base.  She places it on the pedestal in the front of the room, but with one of the corners improperly placed. ?She?s having a little trouble with the base? it might be a little off!? Kirk comments as Erica returns to the pedestal with the torso with thirty seconds left. ?She might want to? Oh, she?s gonna place the middle! Maybe she?s got a plan!? Erica spends a few seconds turning the torso, but pushes down on it until the last corner of the base is in the proper position on the pedestal (0:22).  She then goes to the back of the room one last time, grabs the head and brings it back to the pedestal.  She threads the attached rod into the openings in the other parts of the statue and presses down on the head, opening the remaining doors leading out of the room with fifteen seconds remaining.  Erica promptly runs up the stairs to the Pirate?s Cove, but soon realizes her mistake and goes back into the Shrine and then the Den of Totem Poles with only seven seconds left. ?Ough, I don?t think she?s gonna make it!? Erica gets to work turning the faces of the stage-left totem pole in the room, but she can only complete one before the countdown clock explodes and the diagrams onscreen explode to indicate the end of the game.
?Ough, time?s up, and they were just one room away!? laments Kirk, Nick by his side. ?They both gave it a great effort, Nick was fast, Erica was smart, but they got caught up in the Temple and they were this close to the Observatory!? He holds his left hand up to the camera, using a small space between his thumb and index finger to emphasize his statement. ?But they both gave it a gallant effort, and they still get sports packages, but we gotta get outta here.  Join us again for more adventure and another great Legend of the Hidden Temple! Buh-bye!? The camera zooms out as Kirk and Nick wave to the audience and the camera; they can be seen conversing with one another before Erica joins them, and the camera also shows rooms such as the Shrine of the Silver Monkey, Den of Totem Poles and a patch of foliage? in the middle of which is a chipped stone covered in foreign engravings? next to the Steps of Knowledge as the credits roll.

Rediscovery EP: The Inner-Seeking Stone of Confucius
« Reply #4 on: July 26, 2010, 05:31:06 PM »
Episode Summary
Episode 95px]

Name of Artifact: The Inner-Seeking Stone of Confucius
Season: 3
Layout: 2 (12 overall)
Result: Failed acquisition
Team: Red Jaguars
Pendants Won: 1 ?
Location of Artifact: The Observatory

The Red Jaguars started off strong at the Moat, where they had to cross by way of a reduced version of the "correct path" Temple Game.  They placed first and were a good fifteen seconds ahead of all the other teams, but didn't progress from the Steps of Knowledge until the last minute because of Erica's difficulty with ringing in first; they then answered three questions in a row and staged a come-from-behind win.  One more round passed, and a solid Temple Games performance allowed them to move on.

The Temple Run emphasized the difference between the two players.  Nick, the confident athlete, bolted into the Temple at an incredible speed, but was taken out in the Cannon Room in just twenty-seven seconds.  Erica was not quite the same; she was a slow mover, but she knew what to do in each of the rooms she came across, most of which had more complex objectives than simple navigation.  She made a minor wrong turn from the Shrine of the Silver Monkey before correcting herself, but it was her slow pace that cost the team? she entered the Den of Totem Poles with only seven seconds left, which obviously wasn't enough time to finish the difficult objective.  If she went through the Temple much faster (or if she went in first and Nick had just as good an understanding of the room objectives as she did), it's likely that the team could have grabbed the Stone and possibly retrieved it.

Trivia and Records:
With only twenty-seven seconds, Nick spent less time in the Temple than did any other frontrunner in all of Season 3.

Maybe if Nick had gone in first, this could've been an amazing win. Can't win 'em all, though...

Good job, and great episode!
