Rediscovery EP: The Wooden Dragon Head of the Ormen Lange

Author's Note: This is one of the episodes of my independent project, Legends: The Rediscovery.  More information on the project can be found by following this link.

Episode 90

The camera swerves through a thick rainforest, and after multiple turns, it eventually stops in front of an ancient temple.  The eyes of giant stone head next to the temple gate light up red as he begins to speak:
"LEGENDS OF THE HIDDEN TEMPLE!"
The show's logo forms as two halves of a Pendant of Life come in from the sides of the screen and merge; the show's name appears above the logo as the camera pans across the entire temple.
"With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is NOW!"

On this final word, Kirk emerges from a thick patch of jungle plants and shrubs, then runs into the foreground and up a wide set of steps to greet the crowd. "Thank you! Thank you very much! Nice to see you! Thank you, Olmec! Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple.  The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards.  Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures of his temple.  Which one are we gonna hear about today?"

Faint orange lights underneath Olmec turn on, and the camera cuts to a close-up of him as he replies:
"The legend of the Wooden Dragon Head of the Ormen Lange."

"Ooh, the Wooden Dragon Head of the Ormen Longer!" Kirk says in response as the camera cuts back to him. "So the legend is set, and one of these six teams will have a chance to retrieve that Dragon Head.  Will it be:
"William and Julia of the Red Jaguars?" the camera pans to each team in order, their first names briefly appearing at the bottom of the screen?
"Justin and Stephanie of the Blue Barracudas,
"Ryan and Suelynn of the Green Monkeys,
"Aaron and Christine of the Orange Iguanas,
"Adam and Melissa of the Purple Parrots,
"Or Mick and Anna of the Silver Snakes?"

"They'll have to pass some tough physical and mental tests," Kirk says, "and in the end, only one team will earn the right to enter Olmec's Temple.  But first, they?ll have to cross the Moat, and here's how they'll have to do it today?
"When I say 'Go,' one player from each team will grab onto the rod above them and climb hand-over-hand across the Moat.  When he gets across and lands on the other side, it's his partner's turn to grab onto the rod and do the same thing."
"As soon as the second player jumps down onto the deck, it's his job to run over here and hit the gong." He hits the top button on the Red Jaguars' gong? which lights up red? to demonstrate. "The first four teams to hit their gongs will be going into the next round.  Are you ready, teams?"
The players all cheer and shout in response.
"Olmec, are you ready?" asks Kirk.
"Let's rock!" Olmec replies.
"All right!" Kirk says in response. "On your marks, get set, GO!!"

On ?Go,? the first players on each team? the girls on each team, except for the Blue Barracudas who send their male player first? reach or jump up for the rods and start moving along them hand-over-hand.  The first players vary greatly in terms of speed and skill? after twenty seconds, the boy on the Blue Barracudas and the girl on the Orange Iguanas are almost all the way across, while most of the players are only around the halfway, but the female Purple Parrot is only a little more than a third of the way across the water.  Twenty-three seconds into the round, the male Blue Barracuda is the first player to make it across, prompting his partner to start making her way across.  A moment later, however, the female Red Jaguar loses her grip on the rod above, and has to go back and restart.
?This is tough! You gotta keep your grip and you gotta act fast,? Kirk explains as the girls on the Green Monkeys and Silver Snakes make it to the other side after about thirty seconds, closely followed by the female Orange Iguana. ?Red Jaguars really gotta catch up now!? The female Red Jaguar sluggishly moves along, while the girl on the Blue Barracudas proves herself to be as fast as her partner? only fifty seconds into the Moat, she jumps down onto the deck and runs over to light up her team?s gong.
?We got our first team, it?s the Blue Barracudas!? announces Kirk. ?Still need three more, who?s it gon? Orange Iguanas in, we need two more!? The boy on the Orange Iguanas bangs down on his team?s gong at the :56 mark, and the boy on the Silver Snakes lights up their gong at :59. ?We?re still looking for one more team? Green Monkeys? Purple Parrots?? A short race between the boys on both mentioned teams begins, but it?s the boy on the Green Monkeys that gets to his gong first, ending the round after a minute and three seconds.
?And that?s it! We got our two teams right here!? Kirk announces, and the next thing the camera shows is the Blue Barracudas celebrating around their gong as he walks onscreen. ?Blue Barracudas came across with blazing speed.  Going on to the Steps of Knowledge are the Blue Barracudas!? Kirk high-fives both players as the audience cheers and applauds. ?And the Green Monkeys?? the camera briefly shows each qualifying team, with Kirk pausing to allow for applause? ?and the Orange Iguanas? and the Silver Snakes! The Red Jaguars and the Purple Parrots gave it a great effort.  They?re not going away empty-handed, we got a great gift for them for playing and here?s what it is.? William, Julia, Adam and Melissa will each be receiving a copy of Ponyo on DVD.

Rediscovery EP: The Wooden Dragon Head of the Ormen Lange
« Reply #1 on: July 05, 2010, 05:40:32 PM »
When the camera cuts away from the consolation prize, the four remaining teams are now at the top of the Steps of Knowledge, along with Kirk. "As the quest continues, it's now time for Olmec to tell us about the legend of the Wooden Dragon Head of the Oarmen Lang.  Pay attention, teams, because your knowledge of the legend can bring you a step closer to the Temple."
Olmec begins to tell the legend:

"One of the largest, strongest and most famous of the Viking longships was the Ormen Lange, built for King ?l?fr I of Norway.  Legend has it the ship was more than two hundred feet long and it took a hundred rowers to get it to move.  The Ormen Lange was as powerful as it was huge, and as intimidating as it was powerful.  It was designed to look fierce, and that showed in the wooden dragon head on the ship's prow, and legend has it when it was shown to the king, he was very proud.
" 'Yumping Yiminy, this is perfect!' remarked ?l?fr. 'Vith this, ve can conquer the Svedish and the Danes, ya?'
"And so, war broke out between the countries.  In September 1000, ?l?fr took control of the Ormen Lange and led ten other Norwegian longships into battle against the alliance of the Danes and Swedes.  Outnumbered, ?l?fr and his men fought valiantly.  They shot arrows at warriors on enemy ships and dodged the arrows enemies fired back at them, and tried to stop other warriors from boarding their ships.  In the end, they lost, the Ormen Lange and the other Norwegian ships were destroyed.  After the battle, King ?l?fr was never to be seen again, and the dragon head from the Ormen Lange's prow made its way to the Temple.  Your quest is to find the Wooden Dragon Head of the Ormen Lange and bring it back here."

"Thank you," Kirk says after Olmec finishes telling the legend. "So Olmec, where is the Wooden Dragon?"
Olmec replies:
"The Wooden Dragon Head can be found in the Graveyard of Ships." The camera zooms in on the artifact wedged between two rungs of the ladder leading directly upward from the Graveyard of Ships, then fades back to Kirk.

"Of course! Teams," Kirk begins, "you're standing on the Steps of Knowledge.  In a minute, Olmec will ask you a question.  When you think you know the answer, stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you.  If you're right, you'll move down to the next level, but if you're wrong or run out of time, I'll give the other teams a chance." He walks down the steps as he continues explaining the rules. "The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec's Temple.  Olmec, we?re now ready for your first question."

Olmec begins:
?Was the Ormen Lange built for: Leifr Eir?ksson, King ?l?fr or Count Olaf??
Christine hits the marking first: ?Count Olaf!?
?Incorrect,? replies Olmec, and a few members of the audience laugh.
Ryan stomps down and answers: ?King Olaf.?
?Correct.?
?Nice job, Green Monkeys, step down!? encourages Kirk, and the Green Monkeys move down to the second step. ?Next question!?

Olmec asks:
?Was ?l?fr the king of: Ukraine, Norway or Romania??
Ryan stomps in while Olmec is in the middle of providing the third choice: ?Norway.?
?That is correct,? says Olmec in response.
?Whoo! Just like that, the Green Monkeys are one step away from the Temple Games!? Kirk remarks as the Green Monkeys move down again, to the third step. ?We?re looking for two teams! Olmec, next question!?

Olmec then asks:
?In our legend, which two countries did ?l?fr and the Norwegians fight against: Denmark and Sweden, Finland and Iceland or England and Ireland??
After a moment, Stephanie rings in: ?Finland and Iceland???
?Incorrect.?
Anna gongs in: ?Sweden? and? Denmark???
?Correct,? answers Olmec.
?Silver Snakes, step down, nice job!? Kirk shouts, and the Silver Snakes move down to the second step. ?Tough questions! Olmec, let?s keep going!?

Olmec?s next question is this:
?According to our legend, how many rowers were needed to make the Ormen Lange move: Ten, One hundred or One thous???
Another stomp by Anna interrupts Olmec: ?A hundred.?
?That is correct,? says Olmec in response.
?Silver Snakes now just one step away from the Temple Games!? Kirk remarks as the Silver Snakes join the Green Monkeys on the penultimate level. ?Blue Barracudas, Orange Iguanas, still plenty of time.  Olmec, next question!?

Olmec asks:
?In the legend, which of these weapons did the soldiers fight with: Spears, Arrows or Slingshots??
Christine buzzes in: ?Bow and arrows???
?Correct,? Olmec replies.
?Orange Iguanas on the board!? Kirk comments, gesturing for the Orange Iguanas to move down onto the second step. ?Blue Barracudas can still catch up.  Next question, Olmec!?

Olmec now asks:
?In the battle, did the Norwegians: Win, Lose or Tie??
Christine steps in again: ?They? lost.?
?That is correct.?
?Whoa, come from behind and now it?s a three-way tie on the second-to-last step!? Kirk remarks as the Orange Iguanas join the Green Monkeys and Silver Snakes on the third step. ?Next question, Olmec!?

Olmec asks:
?Which of these European regions is Norway a part of: Transylvania, Westphalia or Scandinavia??
Anna stomps in just as a bell sounds: ?Um? Transylvania???
?That is incorrect.?
Ryan then hits the marking and answers: ?Scandinavia.?
?That is correct!? shouts Olmec, and the Green Monkeys hop down onto the bottommost step.
?We got our first team going on to the Temple Games! It?s the Green Monkeys!? Kirk declares. ?We still need one more team, who?s it gonna be: the Orange Iguanas, the Silver Snakes or the Blue Barracudas? Olmec, continue!?

Olmec does so by asking:
?Which of these people lived throughout Scandinavia long ag???
Stephanie interrupts Olmec this time: ?The Vikings!?
?Correct.?
?Blue Barracudas on the board!? Kirk announces. ?This could be a comeback, who knows? Olmec, next question!?

Olmec asks:
?How many longships did King ?l?fr bring to the battlefield: Seven, Nine or Eleven??
Anna hits the marking first: ?Eleven???
?THAT IS CORRECT!? bellows Olmec, and the Silver Snakes jump down beside the Green Monkeys on the bottom step.   Kirk runs up the middle of the step before the teams start celebrating with one another, then turns around to face the camera.
?That?s it! We got our two teams right here!? he announces. ?It?s the Green Monkeys and the Silver Snakes! The Orange Iguanas and the Barracudas gave it a great effort too, and we got a great gift for them for playing and here?s what it is.? Justin, Aaron, Christine and Stephanie will each be receiving a custom Legends of the Hidden Temple watch provided by Armitron.
When the camera cuts away from the consolation prize, only Kirk and the two remaining teams are still present on the Steps of Knowledge. ?These two teams will be playing for the right to enter Olmec?s Temple? right after this!? The camera pans out, then zooms in on a cluster of bamboo shoots in the Bamboo Forest.  Then, the show?s logo reappears and the camera fades to commercial.

Rediscovery EP: The Wooden Dragon Head of the Ormen Lange
« Reply #2 on: July 05, 2010, 05:48:06 PM »
When the camera fades in from commercial, the show?s title card is placed over a shot of the ship in front of the ladder leading downward from the Central Dock.  The pendant logo splits, the title fades into the distance and the camera segues to Kirk standing in front of the Pit of Despair with the two remaining teams.
?Welcome back to Legends!? he says. ?Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest, so let?s talk to our team players.? He begins on the left side of the screen with the slightly-taller-than-average black girl on the Green Monkeys, whose hair is styled into many small braids clinging to her shoulders.  She is also wearing a green waterproof coat over her team shirt.  ?On the Green Monkeys, we have Suelynn.  How old are you, Suelynn??
?Thirteen,? replies the girl.
?And I understand you play basketball for your school but you wanna be a model,? Kirk reads off the index card in his hand. ?Tell me about that.?
?Well,? explains Suelynn, ?a lot of people tell me I look good and I should try doing that, so I?m really thinking about it.?
?Ah, well good luck with it,? Kirk comments before moving to the left extreme of the screen to talk to her partner, a white boy about the same height as Suelynn, but with wavy dark hair and brown eyes. ?And your partner is Ryan.  How old are you??
?Thirteen,? he answers.
?And I heard you say you?re a football fanatic,? Kirk reads. ?Do you  play a lot or just watch a lot??
?Both,? answers Ryan. ?And I collect cards, too.?
?What?s your favorite team??
?The Saints.?
?Favorite player??
Ryan just laughs and shakes his head.
?He doesn?t know.  You wanna be in the NFL some day??
?Heck yeah,? Ryan answers with another laugh.
?This is a determined Green Monkeys team,? Kirk comments. ?Let?s hear it for ?em!? The audience briefly applauds for Ryan and Suelynn, and Kirk turns to talk with the Silver Snakes, starting with a slightly-shorter-than-average girl with blue eyes, freckles and wavy brown hair flowing down to her chest, who is wearing a zipped waterproof coat much like Suelynn?s, only metallic gray. ?And on the Silver Snakes, we have Anna.  How old are you, Anna??
?Twelve,? she replies.
?And I understand you wanna be a singer,? Kirk says. ?What kind of music do you sing??
?Mostly? I can?t say it? light rock stuff??? Anna answers, struggling to find words. ?I have a few guy-friends that are learning guitar and drums and everything.?
?Sounds like you got a band right there,? Kirk replies before moving to talk to Anna?s partner, a boy of average build, with visible black bangs and hazel eyes. ?And also on the Silver Snakes, we have Mick.  How old are you, Mick??
?Fourteen,? he says in response.
?And I hear you play hockey? ice hockey AND street hockey, but you also play guitar,? reads Kirk. ?How long have you been doing that??
?Um?? answers Mick, looking up as he counts mentally, ?acoustic guitar for eight years, electric for two years.  I have this Flying V that my uncle bought me for my birthday, it?s something I?ll never give away.?
?Maybe you guys can play together sometime,? Kirk says, moving back toward the center of the screen. ?Let?s hear it for the Silver Snakes!? The audience gives Mick and Anna a short round of applause; they high-five during the cheers.

?All right, you guys ready to play?? asks Kirk.
?YEAH!? the players reply.
?Then why don?t you go get ready for the Temple Games,? Kirk says, pointing in different directions, and while Kirk turns toward the camera again, Suelynn and Anna walk offscreen in one direction, and Mick and Ryan in another. ?In the Temple Games, teams are competing for?" he opens a pouch and pulls out a small gold medallion to show to the camera? "Pendants of Life.  The winning team?s gonna need those Pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded Temple Guards as they make their way through the Temple.  There are three Temple Games.  Olmec, tell us about Temple Game #1.?

Olmec begins:
"King ?l?fr had to bring all eleven Viking longships to the battlefield, but in this game, you will only need to transport one.  Behind you is a diagonal waterfall.  When Kirk gives the signal, push the ship up the waterfall with your backs until you reach the top.  Place the ship there, and slide back down.
"The first player to place the ship at the top of the waterfall and slide back down? or the player that's further along after 60 seconds? wins."
The camera segues to Kirk standing in front of the players. "They used to move ships just like this!" he says. "Not.  Let's put 60 seconds on the clock!" A countdown clock appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen, and Kirk takes a few steps to the side to comment from offscreen. "On your mark, get set, GO!"
?There they go! This is tough, ?cause the water?s gonna be fighting ?em and coming at ?em!? Kirk shouts out as Suelynn and Anna start pushing the wooden ships up the slopes as the water appears.  The girls have to use their hands and feet to climb, and try their hardest to avoid sliding back down? the indents on the walls help a little in this regard.  Over time Suelynn gains a considerable lead over Anna, and the gap only widens when Anna loses her grip and falls from almost halfway up the ramp to a point much closer to the bottom.  Suelynn almost falls, but catches herself fast and therefore doesn?t take much of a slide.  Anna never catches up, and Suelynn manages to plant the ship in the hole at the top of the slope with nineteen seconds left.  When she slides back down, the countdown clock fades away as Kirk runs over.
?Okay, that?s it!? he declares; Anna slides back down the slope, creating a big splash when she reaches the bottom. ?The Green?? he starts laughing? ?Woah, nice splash! The Green Monkeys did a great job and got the ship to the top first.  That gives them the half Pendant of Life!? The audience briefly applauds for Suelynn. ?The Silver Snakes can catch up in the next game, it?s worth a full Pendant? er, a half Pendant.  Olmec, tell us about it.?

Olmec continues:
"The Ormen Lange and King ?l?fr's other ships had to sail for miles to get to the battlefield.  In this game, you will have to run to get there.  When Kirk gives the signal, climb on the wheel and adjust your weight to make the wheel spin.  For each full rotation  The player that travels the most miles in 60 seconds... wins!"
"Hopefully it'll be smooth sailing for our players," Kirk comments as the camera fades to him. "Let's put 60 seconds on the clock." As Kirk takes a few steps to the side to comment without being in the way of the camera, a countdown clock appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen, and a green Pendant half appears in the upper-left corner. "On your mark, get set, GO!"
Ryan and Mick start off fairly even, both moving at the same even pace.  After a while Ryan starts developing a lead, and while both players have great staying power, Mick gets a chance to catch up and pull ahead when Ryan first falls off the wheel marked with the show?s insignia at the :29 mark.  Both boys fall off close to the end of the game, but Mick manages to recover a little sooner, allowing him a couple more seconds to pull ahead.  When the countdown clock hits zero, a pattern of ceiling spotlights flashes, the indicators on the screen disappear and Kirk runs over to declare the winner.
?Okay, that?s it! C?mon over!? Kirk announces, calling in the boys. ?Looks like Green went 11 miles, but Silver Snakes went 11 miles! It?s a tie? they each get the half Pendant of Life!? The audience cheers for a moment. ?So now the Silver Snakes have a half Pendant, the Green Monkeys have a full Pendant, but this next game is worth a full Pendant.  It?s the third and final game.  Olmec, tell us about Temple Game #3.?

Olmec narrates:
"?l?fr had to take down thousands of ships and warriors in the battle against the Danes and Swedes, but in this game, you will only need to sink three ships.  One of you is suspended in a sack.  When Kirk gives the signal, swing your partner at one of the ships and sink it by knocking it over.
"The first team to sink all three ships? or the team that sinks the most ships in 30 seconds? wins."
"It's sink or swim for our players here," remarks Kirk as the camera transitions, "and this is for the Temple, so let's set the clock for six? er, set it for 30 seconds." The clock appears onscreen in the bottom-right corner; a green Pendant of Life appears in the upper-left corner and a silver half-Pendant in the upper right.  Kirk takes a few steps back to comment without getting in the players' way. "On your mark, get set, GO!"
On ?Go,? the boys start by pushing the girls towards the ships directly in front of them.  Mick and Ryan give their partners equally strong pushes on the first attempt, so both teams knock down their middle ?ships? at the exact same time. ?It?s tough ?cause now they have to change direction, and that?s tough!? Kirk declares as the teams go after their second targets.  It takes a couple attempts, but the Silver Snakes knock over their rightmost target with twelve seconds remaining; the Green Monkeys even the score a moment later.  However, Ryan?s next throw is off-course, whereas Mick manages to push Anna towards the leftmost target.  As a result, the Silver Snakes knock over the last target with three seconds to go, right as the Green Monkeys end up missing the target.  The countdown clock and indicators disappear, and Kirk runs over to declare a winner.
?That?s it! Great job by both teams!? Kirk announces, calling the team members over. ?The Silver Snakes knocked over all three ships with just a few seconds left! That gives them the full Pendant, giving them a Pendant and a half, the Green Monkeys had a Pendant.  The Silver Snakes are goin? to the Temple!? As the audience cheers, Kirk high-fives Mick and then Anna? who is still suspended in the sack? then goes to talk with the Green Monkeys. ?We gotta say goodbye to the Green Monkeys, but they gave it a great effort too, came up just a bit short.  But we got a great gift for them both and here?s what it is.? Ryan and Suelynn will each be receiving a $100 U.S. Savings Bond provided by Skechers footwear.
The camera cuts away from the consolation prize, and Kirk is in front of the still-suspended Anna with his hand on Mick?s left shoulder. ?They fought hard, and now we?ll see if the Silver Snakes can make it through Olmec?s Temple, retrieve the Wooden Dragon Head of the Oarmen Long,? he says, ?right after this!? The camera zooms in on the Wooden Dragon Head in the Graveyard of Ships; the show?s logo reappears, and the camera fades to commercial.

Rediscovery EP: The Wooden Dragon Head of the Ormen Lange
« Reply #3 on: July 05, 2010, 05:55:53 PM »
When the camera fades in from black, the show's logo is partially covering an overhead shot of Kirk and the Silver Snakes standing in front of the Temple Gate.  The pendant splits, the title disappears into the distance and the camera switches to a lower-to-the-ground view of the three. "Welcome back to Legends!" Kirk says to the camera. "Anna and Mick have proven themselves worthy and now have earned the right to enter Olmec's Temple.  But first, Olmec's gonna give them some information to help them retrieve the Wooden? Dragon Head of the Ottoman Lange."
Olmec begins to give the rundown:
?You could start by running up to the Room of the Ancient Masks! Push in the correct mask, and pass into the Pit of Despair.  There you must choose your next path.  You could race up into the Observatory, read the instructions on the far wall through the telescope and follow the instructions to open the door to the Central Dock.  Assemble the ship, and pass into the Den of Totem Poles.  Turn all the faces forward; that may take you below or lead you into the SHRIIIINE? of the Silver Mooonkey! Assemble the statue, and you may be headed toward the Pirate?s Cove! Place the torch in the correct holder to go back, or? spin the ship?s wheel to enter the Graveyard of Ships, where you can grab the Wooden Dragon Head of the Ormen Lange.
?Next, plow through the wall and into the Viper?s Nest! Reach into the snake jars and find the key, and you?ll enter the Bamboo Forest! If you escape, you might have a chance to enter the Lost Treasury.  Place the correct artifact on the altar, and if the correct door is unlocked, you can crawl back into the Pit and finally climb through the Cave, race down the stairs and back through the Temple Gate.  The choices are yours and yours alone!? Olmec pauses momentarily. "You won 1 ? Pendants in the Temple Games.  Who's going first??
"I am!" shouts Anna, raising her hand in the air.
"Very WELL, Anna!" replies Olmec as Kirk hands out the Pendants of Life. "When Kirk gives the signal, you'll race through the gates into the Temple and make your way towards the Dragon Head.  Hidden inside the Temple are three secret passages that may lead you into the Jun? into the Bamboo Forest, as well as Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms.  You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on BUT? if you're caught without a Pendant, you'll be taken out of the Temple? and then it'll be Mick's turn to enter and try his luck.  Hidden somewhere in the Temple is the other half of your Pendant.  If you can find it and you're carrying the other half, you will get an extra life.  If you can reach the Dragon Head, all the doors of the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish.  Return through the gates with the Wooden Dragon Head in three minutes, and you will both be handsomely rewarded? and here's how!"
?   For just getting into the Temple, they're both going to get a skateboard provided by Vans.
?   If they can grab the Dragon Head within three minutes, they're going to get a Gibson Epiphone S310 electric guitar.
?   And if they can get the Dragon Head out of the Temple before three minutes is up, they'll both be going to the Cayman Islands! The 290-room Ramada Treasure Island Resort, on Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands, located on the famous Seven Mile Beach, features a complete water sports program, including snorkeling, parasailing and water-skiing!

The camera cuts back from the grand prize to show Kirk and the Silver Snakes one more time before the run. "Cayman Islands, sounds great! Let's get 'em there!" Kirk declares before turning to Anna. "All right, Anna, let's get you out in front.  Put your mouthpieces in.  Let's put three minutes on the clock." The clock reappears. "Olmec, lower the gate!"
Olmec groans gutturally as the gate falls; the faint lighting pointed up at his chin is turned off.
"On your mark Anna, get set, GO!"

?There goes Anna! Up the Temple!? Kirk declares as Anna runs through the gate and up the stairs.  She pushes in the mask stage-right of the door in the back of the room, but nothing opens. ?They?ve got a Pendant and a half? how far can that take them?? Anna goes to push the mask left of the Temple Guard door, which opens both doors leading out of the room with 2:49 remaining; she moves on into the Pit of Despair. ?She?s moving fast! I like her style!? Anna slows a little going across the further-back of the two walkways connecting the ledges at the sides of the room, then hits the actuator for the Observatory door, at which point she briefly looks at Mick and points at the actuator (2:40). ?Oh, she?s signaling the half-Pendant! Good move, Anna!? Anna then makes her way up the stairs into the Observatory.  With 2:34, she stands in front of the telescope and starts to focus it, but the first Temple Guard emerges screaming from the back of the room.
?TEMPLE GUARD!? Kirk yells out as Anna hands over her Pendant of Life. ?But that didn?t bother her, she?s moving on!? Anna goes back to the telescope and puts an eye to it, trying to focus it on the writing on the far wall. ?She?s gotta? do what it says on the wall to open the door!? After a couple seconds of focusing, Anna reaches for the model of Venus on the left altar in the front of the room, but then changes her mind and presses down on the Jupiter and Saturn models on the right altar, opening the door leading downward (2:23).  She promptly climbs down into the Central Dock and grabs the two masts in the back of the room for the ship in the front of the room. ?All right, she just needs the last piece of the ship?!? After putting the masts in the ship, Anna looks around for the crow?s nest, which she grabs and fits over the stage-left mast, opening the door into the Den of Totem Poles. ?This is a fast, strong team!? Anna crawls into the Den of Totem Poles with 2:03 on the clock.  She goes to start turning the faces on the stage-right totem pole towards the audience, but can only get the bottommost of the three before the second Temple Guard emerges from the door in the back of the room with 1:59 remaining.
?Oh, Temple Guard! Go Mick, take off!? shouts Kirk, and Mick starts up the stairs as soon as he notices the first Temple Guard.  He races through the first couple rooms on Anna?s path in little time, pauses to pick up the other half of his Pendant from the Observatory actuator in the Pit of Despair, and then keeps moving.  He enters the Observatory with 1:44 on the clock, the Central Dock with 1:38 left and the Den of Totem Poles with 1:34 to spare. ?He?s fast, this is a fast Silver Snakes team!? Mick starts by aligning all the faces on the stage-right totem pole, which Anna had already begun to do.  The first pole is finished with 1:27 to go, after which Mick goes to align the faces on the second totem pole. ?There he goes, he?s gotta turn all the faces out of the room to open a door!? With 1:15 remaining, the door into the Shrine of the Silver Monkey opens, and he moves on.  He heads to the back of the room and reaches for the statue base, but before he can get it, the third Temple Guard emerges from the door in the back of the room.
?Temple Guard! Gotta give ?em his Pendants!? remarks Kirk, and Mick takes couple seconds to hand over the two halves of his Pendant to the Temple Guard.  When the guard finally vanishes with 1:07 remaining, Mick grabs the base and the middle of the silver monkey in one sweep and brings them to the front of the room. ?He knows what?s he?s doing! You got the base, then the middle and then the head!? Mick places the base of the monkey with exactly a minute left, then the middle with 56 seconds on the clock.  When he gets the head and jams it down, 51 seconds remain, and he advances into the Pirate?s Cove.
?He?s only one room away from the Wooden Dragon Head, with forty-five seconds!? Kirk declares a few seconds after Mick starts turning the ship wheel in the front of the Pirate?s Cove to lift the iron slab that blocks the ladder leading downward.  After a few seconds at the wheel, he goes over and slips under the slab, then starts climbing down the ladder into the Graveyard of Ships (0:43).  While on the ladder, he grabs the Wooden Dragon Head lodged between two of the rungs and pulls it out with 39 seconds to go.
?HE?S GOT IT!? Kirk exclaims as Mick jumps off the ladder with the Dragon Head and starts to run. ?He?s got the Dragon Head of the Oarmen Long!? Anna starts cheering loudly as Mick runs through the stone wall into the Viper?s Nest (0:37), then passes into the Bamboo Forest (0:34). ?All the doors are open!? With the Dragon Head tucked under his arm, Mick looks for low-to-the-ground openings to get through the room, which requires a little effort.  He gets to the other side with 24 seconds to go, tosses the Dragon Head up into the crawl tube connecting the Bamboo Forest with the Lost Treasury, and then climbs in after it. ?He knew he couldn?t go on with it, he?s just gotta get it out!? Mick picks the Wooden Dragon Head up again with twenty seconds remaining, heads out to the Pit and starts up the lower crawl tube into the Cave with fourteen seconds on the clock. ?It?s gonna be close, folks!? Anna starts screaming as the audience counts the last few seconds; at this point, Mick is almost all the way through the ledges of the Cave. ?Ten! Nine! Eight! Seven!?
Mick returns through the Temple Gate just before Kirk can continue the countdown. ?They got it! They got the Dragon Head! Can you believe it?? Mick slows to a walk after returning through the gate, perhaps a little out-of-breath.  He then high-fives Anna as she walks over, and he and Kirk together hold up the Wooden Dragon Head while the Silver Snakes join their other hands together and hold them high. ?They got all the prizes! They got the skateboards, the electric guitar? I know Mick?s excited about that? they?re going to the Cayman Islands! Unbelievable!? The audience cheers, and Anna lets out a squeal of excitement. ?This was a strong Silver Snakes team all day, we enjoyed having them, but we gotta get outta here.  Join us again next time for more adventure and another great Legend of the Hidden Temple! Buh-bye!? The camera shows more scenes of the celebration, along with the audience and Moat, and rooms such as the Den of Totem Poles, the Observatory and the Pit of Despair while the credits roll.

Rediscovery EP: The Wooden Dragon Head of the Ormen Lange
« Reply #4 on: July 05, 2010, 06:14:21 PM »
Episode Summary
Episode 90

Name of Artifact: The Wooden Dragon Head of the Ormen Lange
Season: 3
Layout: 1 (11 overall)
Result: Made it!
Time Remaining: 0:07
Team: Silver Snakes
Pendants Won: 1 ?
Location of Artifact: The Graveyard of Ships

The Silver Snakes in this episode were a fairly average team throughout the elimination rounds, but they definitely rose to the occasion for the Temple Run.  Anna was an adequate frontrunner who handled the rooms she had to enter very well, especially considering that the Temple design forced the team through the most time-consuming rooms in the Temple all in a row.  After she was taken out from the Den of Totem Poles with two minutes to go, Mick launched in.  He was a bit faster than his partner, and the fact that he found the other half-Pendant in the Pit of Despair definitely helped the team.  After passing through the first eight rooms described during Olmec's rundown in order, Mick grabbed the Wooden Dragon Head with 39 seconds to go.  He then blazed through the bottom floor and made it out of the Temple thirty-two seconds later.

Trivia and Records:
Mick is only the second player in The Rediscovery's history to enter all twelve rooms of the Temple during the run, the first being Ryan Tsao from "The Right Nostril of the Great Sphinx"; he's only the fourth player to do this in either incarnation of the show.  Also, with Mick being a guitarist and Anna a singer, it was a pretty interesting coincidence that the Silver Snakes each won an electric guitar as the second prize.

Great job--kind of reminds me of how I did one of my episodes, "The Feathered Crown of Nezahualcoyotl". But I digress... :P

Also, could be the first episode of Season 3, due to the "Olmec blunder" after the Temple rundown?

At least Kirk doesn't voice Olmec; that'd be a disaster. J/K

Great job as usual, TAW. Really looking forward to the next set of episodes.
