Rediscovery EP: The Heart-Shaped Locket of Elisabeth of?
« on: June 07, 2010, 05:01:27 PM »
Author's Note: This is one of the episodes of my independent project, Legends: The Rediscovery.  More information on the project can be found by following this link.

Episode 86px]

The camera swerves through a thick rainforest, and after multiple turns, it eventually stops in front of an ancient temple.  The eyes of giant stone head next to the temple gate light up red as he begins to speak:
"LEGENDS OF THE HIDDEN TEMPLE!"
The show's logo forms as two halves of a Pendant of Life come in from the sides of the screen and merge; the show's name appears above the logo as the camera pans across the entire temple.
"With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is NOW!"

On this final word, Kirk emerges from a thick patch of jungle plants and shrubs, then runs into the foreground and up a wide set of steps to greet the crowd. "Thank you! Thank you very much! Nice to see you! Thank you, Olmec! Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple.  The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards.  Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures of his temple.  Which one are we gonna hear about today?"

Faint orange lights underneath Olmec turn on, and the camera cuts to a close-up of him as he replies:
"The legend of the Heart-Shaped Locket of Elisabeth of Bavaria."

"Ooh, the Heart-Shaped Locket of Elisabeth of Bavaria!" Kirk says in response as the camera cuts back to him. "Well, the legend is set, and one of these six teams will have a chance to retrieve the Heart-Shaped Locket.  Will it be:
"Derek and Katie of the Red Jaguars?" the camera pans to each team in order, their first names briefly appearing at the bottom of the screen?
"Mike and Lea of the Blue Barracudas,
"Will and Jessica of the Green Monkeys,
"Bryan and Lindsay of the Orange Iguanas,
"Dave and Janine of the Purple Parrots,
"Or Stephen and Erica of the Silver Snakes?"

"They'll have to pass some tough physical and mental tests," Kirk says, "and in the end, only one team will earn the right to enter Olmec's Temple.  But first, they?ll have to cross the Moat, and here's how they'll have to do it today?
"When I say 'Go,' one player from each team will grab onto the rod above them and climb hand-over-hand across the Moat.  When he gets across and lands on the other side, it's his partner's turn to grab onto the rod and do the same thing."
"As soon as the second player jumps down onto the deck, it's his job to run over here and hit the gong." He hits the top button on the Red Jaguars' gong? which lights up red? to demonstrate. "The first four teams to hit their gongs will be going into the next round.  Are you ready, teams?"
The players all cheer and shout in response.
"Olmec, are you ready?" asks Kirk.
"Let's get rollin'!" Olmec replies.
"Okay," Kirk says in response. "On your marks? get set? GO!!"

?There they go, helped by their spotters up to those rods and crossing the Moat!? Kirk announces as the boys on each team grab onto the rods overhead? most, however, can either reach the rods on their own or by jumping.  After about twenty seconds, the Purple Parrots and Silver Snakes? first players are in the lead, with the other teams bringing up the rear. ?This is tough, they gotta move fast so they don?t wear out!? Thirty seconds into the Moat, the male Silver Snake jumps down onto the deck, signaling that it?s his partner?s turn to begin.  The Green Monkey makes it across second, the Silver Snake a close third; most of the other teams also get their first players across around the same time.  The male Orange Iguana takes the longest time to cross? almost 45 seconds.
?All their partners across, now it?s their partners? turns to cross!? shouts Kirk as the Orange Iguana girl reaches the rod and starts to make her way across.  About a minute into the challenge, the leading teams are the Red Jaguars and Purple Parrots, mostly because the female Green Monkey and Silver Snake are much slower than their partners.  It?s nearly a dead tie when the Jaguar and Parrot slam down on their gongs a full 1:15 into the Moat.  The Blue Barracudas bang their gong after 1:21, and the female Orange Iguana, markedly faster than her partner, slams down on her team?s gong after a full 1:28, just barely beating out the other teams.
?That?s it! We got our four teams right here!? announces Kirk, and the camera cuts to him standing with the Red Jaguars around their lit-up gong.  He high-fives the male Jaguar, then continues talking. ?Red Jaguars fired up, they blazed across the Moat and they?re going on to the Steps of Knowledge, along with the Blue Barracudas?? the camera briefly shows each qualifying team? ?and the Orange Iguanas? and the Purple Parrots! The Green Monkeys and the Silver Snakes gave it a great effort, it was so close.  We got a great gift for them for playing and here?s what it is.? Will, Jessica, Stephen and Erica will each be receiving a copy of Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs on DVD.

Rediscovery EP: The Heart-Shaped Locket of Elisabeth of?
« Reply #1 on: June 07, 2010, 05:07:10 PM »
When the camera cuts away from the consolation prize, Kirk and the four remaining teams are at the top of the Steps of Knowledge. "As the quest continues, it's now time for Olmec to tell us about the Heart-Shaped Locket of Elisabeth of Bavaria.  Pay attention, teams, because your knowledge of the legend can bring you a step closer to the Temple."
Olmec begins to tell the legend:

"One of the most beautiful women in the world was Elisabeth of Bavaria, the Empress of Austria.  When she was fifteen, she was married to Franz Joseph, and when she was thirty, she was crowned Queen of Hungary, but legend has it that, not only did she rarely get to see her children, who were raised by her mother-in-law, but all the royal and imperial duties and customs were too much for poor Elisabeth.
" 'Franzie-honey?' she said one day. 'Sweetie, I'm sorry, but I don't like the idea of staying in the palace 24/7.'
" 'Are you breaking up with me?'
" 'Oh, don't be silly, dear! I love you and I'll always be yours? It's just that I've always wanted to travel the world and see how many lives I can change.  Don't worry, darling, I'll be back soon.' And she got up from her throne.
" 'Sisi, wait! Take this with you.  After all, you'll always have my heart.' Franz took Elisabeth's hand and placed a golden, heart-shaped locket in it.  She gave Franz a kiss goodbye and went off into the night.  Elisabeth spent years visiting various places in Hungary, as well as other places in Europe such as England and the islands of Madeira and Corfu, charming thousands with her beauty.  She loved the Greek classics, and she wrote poetry about her journeys as she visited Spain, Portugal, Greece and much of North Africa, but she missed her husband very much.  Legend has it Elisabeth eventually returned home to Franz, but when she died, the heart-shaped locked disappeared? until now.  Your quest is to retrieve the Heart-Shaped Locket of Elisabeth of Bavaria and bring it back here."

"Thank you Olmec," Kirk says after Olmec finishes telling the legend. "So tell us, where is the Heart-Shaped Locket?"
Olmec replies:
"The Heart-Shaped Locket of Elisabeth of Bavaria can be found in the Lost Treasury." The camera zooms in on a small, heart-shaped locket atop the altar in the Lost Treasury, then fades back to Kirk.

"Teams," Kirk begins, "you're now standing on the Steps of Knowledge, and in a minute, Olmec will ask you a question.  If you think you know the answer, I want you to stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you.  If you're right, you're gonna move down to the next level, but if you're wrong or run out of time, I'll give the other teams a chance." Kirk starts walking down the steps as he continues explaining the rules. "The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec's Temple.  Olmec, we?re now ready for your first question."

Olmec begins:
?Was Elisabeth of Bavaria the Empress of: France, Germany or Austria??
Dave hits the marking first: ?Austria.?
?Correct,? answers Olmec.
?Nice job, Purple Parrots, step down!? says Kirk, and the Purple Parrots move down to the second step. ?Next question.?

Olmec asks:
?Was she known mostly for her: Political influence, Beauty or Musical???
A stomp from Bryan interrupts Olmec: ?Her? beauty.?
?Correct.?
?Orange Iguanas, step down!? encourages Kirk, and the Orange Iguanas also move down a step. ?Next question, Olmec.?

Olmec now asks:
?Did Elisabeth love to: Paint, Travel or D???
Dave cuts Olmec off this time: ?Travel.?
?That is correct.?
?Just like that, Purple Parrots are now one step away from the Temple Games!? Kirk announces as the Purple Parrots move down to the second-to-last step. ?But we?re still looking for two teams! Olmec, next question.?

Olmec asks:
?According to legend, was Elisabeth given the Heart-Shaped Locket: As a family heirloom, As a wedding gift or As a way to remember her husband??
Katie rings in: ?So? she could remember about her husband.?
?Correct,? answers Olmec.
?Red Jaguars on the board!? remarks Kirk, prompting the Red Jaguars to move down to the second step. ?Blue Barracudas can still get in this! Next question.?

Olmec then asks:
?Was her husband named: Franz Joseph, Franz Ferdinand or Wolfgang Amadeus??
Lea interrupts Olmec while he?s giving the third choice: ?Um? Franz Joseph???
?Correct,? says Olmec in response.
?Blue Barracudas on the board! Step down!? announces Kirk, and the Blue Barracudas join the Red Jaguars and Orange Iguanas on the second step. ?It?s a stompin? match! Next question, Olmec!?

Olmec asks:
?Which of these titles did Elisabeth of Bavaria also have: Queen of Hungary, Empress of India or Tsarina???
Lea gongs in: ?Um? the? uh??
A bell sounds, and Lea?s face falls as Bryan steps in: ?Queen of Hungary???
?That is correct.?
?Orange Iguanas now one step away from the Temple Games!? Kirk comments as the Orange Iguanas join the Purple Parrots on the third level. ?Next question.?

Olmec continues:
?In our legend, which of these complains did Elisabeth have about her queenly duties: She had more to do than she could handle, She was always stuck in the palace or Her attendants???
Katie buzzes in early: ?She? um, she was stuck in the palace 24/7???
There is a pause.
?That is correct,? Olmec finally says.
?Red Jaguars now one step away from the Temple Games,? Kirk explains as the Red Jaguars also move down to the penultimate step, ?but the Blue Barracudas can still catch up! Olmec, next question.?

Olmec asks:
?According to our legend, were her children raised by: Her mother, Her aunt or Her mother-in-law??
Katie stomps down and guesses: ?Her aunt???
?Incorrect.?
Nobody else attempts to answer the question before a bell sounds.
?Time?s up!? says Olmec. ?The correct answer was: Her mother-in-law.?
?Tough question, but let?s keep going,? Kirk comments.

Olmec now asks:
?Which of these ancient cultures? classic works was Elisabeth fascinated with: The Greeks, The Romans or The Japanese??
Bryan hits the marking first: ?Greek.?
?That is correct!? Olmec shouts, and the Orange Iguanas move down to the bottom step and start celebrating.
?We got our first team going on to the Temple Games, and it?s the Orange Iguanas!? Kirk announces as Bryan and Lindsay start high-fiving. ?We still need one more team, who?s it gonna be: the Red Jaguars, the Blue Barracudas or the Purple Parrots? Olmec, continue.?

Olmec does so by asking:
?Which of these was a popular nickname for Elisabeth of Bavaria: Sisi, Good Queen Bess or Thin Lizzy??
Dave rings in: ?Sisi???
?THAT IS CORRECT!? bellows Olmec, and the Purple Parrots move around the Orange Iguanas to jump down onto the bottom step.
?We got our two teams for the Temple Games!? Kirk declares; he reappears onscreen and hops up onto the bottom step between the two teams before the four qualifying players start celebrating with each other.  He then turns to face the camera and continues. ?They are the Purple Parrots and the Orange Iguanas! The rest of you guys gave it a great effort too.  You?re not going away empty-handed, we got a great gift for you and here?s what it is.? Derek, Katie, Mike and Lea will each be receiving a backpack provided by Eastpak.
When the camera cuts away from the consolation prize, only Kirk, the Orange Iguanas and Purple Parrots are on the Steps of Knowledge. ?These two teams will be playing for the right to enter Olmec?s Temple,? he says, ?right after this!? The camera moves along the outer wall of the Temple, starting at the leftmost rooms and stopping at the Lost Treasury, where it zooms in on the Heart-Shaped Locket on the altar before the show?s logo reappears and the camera fades to commercial.

Rediscovery EP: The Heart-Shaped Locket of Elisabeth of?
« Reply #2 on: June 07, 2010, 05:14:26 PM »
When the camera fades in from commercial, the show?s title card is placed over a shot of some jungle plants next to Olmec and the Cave.  The pendant logo splits, the title fades into the distance and the camera segues to Kirk standing in front of the Lost Treasury with the two remaining teams.
?Welcome back to Legends!? he says. ?Now is the time where the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest, so let?s get to know our team players.? He turns to the left side of the screen to talk to the average-sized boy on the Orange Iguanas, with somewhat wispy brown hair and hazel eyes. ?On the Orange Iguanas, we have Bryan.  How old are you??
?Thirteen,? answers Bryan.
?Now, I understand you wanna be an animator for a cartoon show,? Kirk reads off the index card in his hand. ?Tell me about that.?
?Well,? Bryan explains, ?I used to watch a lot of cartoons, I took a drawing class in school? I kinda liked it enough I? wanna see my own drawings on TV some day.?
?Ah, very nice,? Kirk comments before moving on to Bryan?s slightly-shorter partner, a freckled girl with blue eyes and straight, dirty-blond hair just past her shoulders. ?And your partner here is Lindsay.  How old are you??
?Twelve,? she replies.
?And it says here you like music like Paramore and Garbage and you have four cats at home,? Kirk reads, ?but tell me about what happened in gymnastics.?
?Well, um,? answers Lindsay, ?I was trying something on the uneven bars, and I missed going from the lower one to the taller one? and I tried to put my hand out when I fell, but then I broke my arm.?
?Woah,? Kirk replies. ?Well, I?m glad you?re okay.  This sounds like a tough Orange Iguanas team, so let?s hear it for ?em!? The audience applauds for a few seconds, and Kirk turns stage-right to talk with the boy on the Purple Parrots, a kid of average build with brown eyes and short dark brown hair concealed inside the helmet. ?And on the Purple Parrots, we have Dave.  How old are you??
?Twelve,? he replies.
?And I understand you play basketball and soccer, but you want to be a trainer for the NBA,? Kirk says. ?Why?s that??
?Well,? explains Dave, ?my friends say I got good advice, and I really like sports and? but yeah, I could probably be better helping the players out than being a player myself.?
?Oh, well very nice,? replies Kirk, moving to the far-right region of the screen to talk to Dave?s partner, a tan-skinned girl with dark hair in a braided ponytail and dark brown eyes. ?And your partner here is Janine.  How old are you, Janine??
?Twelve,? answers she.
?And I heard you?re on your school?s swim team, and you want to be an actress,? read Kirk. ?What kind of movies??
?Um? probably drama since I?m? great with emotion,? Janine tries to explain.
?Ah, nice,? Kirk says, moving back toward the center of the screen. ?This is a creative team, folks! Let?s hear it for the Purple Parrots!? The audience briefly applauds for the Purple Parrots.

?You guys ready to play?? asks Kirk.
?YEAH!? the players reply.
?Okay, why don?t you go get ready for the Temple Games,? Kirk says, pointing in different directions, and the players walk offscreen as Kirk faces the camera again, ?and I?m gonna tell you what?s gonna happen here.  In the Temple Games, each team is competing for?" he opens a pouch and pulls out a small gold medallion to show to the camera? "Pendants of Life.  The winning team will need those Pendants to protect them from the dreaded Temple Guards as they make their way through the Temple.  There are three Temple Games, and Olmec? tell us about Temple Game #1.?

Olmec begins:
"When Elisabeth of Bavaria married Franz Joseph, she was crowned Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary, and her children became heirs to the throne.  Hanging from the net above you are four crowns: one for Elisabeth and three for her children.  When Kirk gives the signal, jump up and untie one of the crowns hanging from the net.  Once it falls, come down and place it on one of the four heads at your feet.  Then, jump back up and do it again.
"The first player to crown Elisabeth and all of her children? or the player that's further along at the end of 60 seconds? wins."
The camera segues to Kirk in front of the boys and the equipment for the game. "This is one way to crown a queen," he says. "Let's set the clock for 60 seconds." With a bang, a countdown clock appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen, and Kirk runs offscreen. "On your mark, get set, GO!"
Both Bryan and Dave have a little trouble jumping high enough at first, even with the bungee cords helping them.  After a couple attempts, they make it up to the nets; it takes a bit of fiddling, but Bryan unties the first crown with 52 seconds to go, causing it to drop.  He lands again and puts the crown on the first mannequin head with 48 seconds on the clock, while Dave is still trying to untie his first crown from the net. ?This is tough? they gotta jump high enough, then they gotta work fast to unknot the knots on those crowns so they can get them!? Dave finally gets the crown to drop and puts it on the first head for the Purple Parrots with 43 seconds remaining, then jumps back up.  Bryan then gets the second crown for the Orange Iguanas at the :32 mark, while Dave fails to untie the second crown? he loses his grip on it and is lowered back to the ground to try again.  However, Bryan fails to untie the third crown on his next attempt, keeping the Purple Parrots from falling too far behind.
?Orange Parrots having trouble! Purple Parrots can catch up!? Kirk declares as Dave gets to work untying the second crown with about 24 seconds to go.  It finally falls to the ground with eighteen seconds left, and is placed on the second mannequin head moments later.  With time ticking down, Bryan scores again for the Orange Iguanas; Dave tries, but fails to keep his grip on the crown before unfastening it from the net.  Neither player scores again, and when the countdown clock hits zero, a pattern of ceiling spotlights flashes to indicate that time for this Temple Game has expired.
?All right, that?s it! Let?s check it out!? Kirk declares, running over to check out the scores. ?Looks like the Purple Parrots got two crowns, but the Orange Iguanas got three crowns! Orange Iguanas win a half Pendant of Life!? The audience briefly applauds as Kirk high-fives Bryan, then goes to talk with Dave. ?Purple Parrots can catch up in the next game, it?s worth a half Pendant.  Olmec, tell us about Temple Game #2.?

Olmec continues:
"Elisabeth of Bavaria traveled through many countries, and visited sparkling lakes and lofty mountaintops? but like all travelers, she sometimes got lost.  Scattered on the mountain before you are four maps of the area.  When Kirk gives the signal, climb the mountain using the rope in your hands.  When you reach a map, grab it and place it in your pack, then keep climbing.  When you reach the top, turn around and climb down the other side."
"The first player to reach the ground on the other side of the mountain with all four maps? or the player that's further along after 60 seconds? wins."
The camera fades to Kirk. "They gotta climb mountains, collect maps? This is tough, but let's put 60 seconds on the clock." A countdown clock appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen, and an orange half-Pendant appears in the top-left corner as Kirk dashes off to the side to do the commentary from the side of the mountain. "On your marks, get set, GO!"
Lindsay and Janine start the ascent, and both move at a medium pace.  In fact, both girls pack up their first maps with roughly 52 seconds to go.  Lindsay puts her second map in her pack with 45 seconds on the clock; by now, Janine is trailing by a couple seconds, but also packs up her second map around the same time.  However, she makes a bit of an effort to catch up, and as a result, the girls tie again when they get to their third maps: about 32 seconds remain.
?This is twofold!? Kirk remarks as the girls reach the summit and get to their final maps. ?You gotta climb, but you gotta stop and grab the maps, and it?s close!? Janine packs up her fourth and final map with 23 seconds to go, but Lindsay is not too far behind her; a mistake with trying to climb down holds her up for another second, however. ?They gotta turn around before they climb back down? Purple Parrots look like they got it!? As expected, Janine jumps down first, landing at the base of the mountain with fifteen seconds still available.
?That?s it!? announces Kirk; the countdown clock stops and disappears, along with the score display. ?Purple Parrots pulled ahead and stuck it out and got here first with all four maps! They get a half Pendant of Life!? The audience cheers, and Kirk high-fives Janine. ?So now it?s all tied up, a half Pendant apiece.  This next game is worth a full Pendant.  Olmec, tell us about Temple Game #3.?

Olmec narrates:
"Elisabeth of Bavaria made it through a number of locations, but legend has it she eventually returned home to Austria.  Before you are a series of platforms that represent her journey.  When Kirk gives the signal, choose a platform and step out onto it.  If the platform sinks, it is an incorrect step? then run back and tag your partner.  Then it's their turn to cross.
"The first team to get a player to Austria? or the player that's further along at the end of 60 seconds? wins."
The camera transitions to Kirk in front of the equipment. "This is for the Temple," he says. "Let's put 60 seconds on the clock." Kirk turns around and takes a couple steps to the side as the clock bangs down and stops in the bottom-right corner of the screen, while an orange half-Pendant appears in the upper-left corner and a purple half-Pendant in the upper right corner. "On your marks, get set, GO!"
The boys are the first players to try getting across, but both fall within seconds and return to the beginning.  Janine, however, makes her way to the third step and makes a wrong choice for the fourth step (the middle of the three choices); Lindsay follows her to the third platform as Janine falls and starts over with 46 seconds to go.  Lindsay, however, falls at :40 after taking five correct steps and has to start over; Dave ends up taking the lead over Bryan as a result.  At the :30 mark, he makes it to the sixth correct step, putting the Purple Parrots in the lead.
?You gotta remember where to go, it?s a lot of communic? Purple Parrots have to go back!? Kirk says as Dave falls after incorrectly choosing the middle platform for his eighth step with 25 seconds on the clock.  Lindsay falls only a few moments later, after making only four correct steps instead of five. ?Orange Iguanas really gotta hustle!? On the next attempt, Janine follows Bryan?s footsteps precisely.  He takes her through six correct steps, but then steps on the platform furthest on the left in regards to the cameraman at the finish line, and has to start over with nine seconds remaining.  Three seconds later, Janine makes an incorrect choice for the eighth step and has to go back.  When time runs out and the ceiling spotlights flash to indicate the end of the game, Bryan is on the third step, Dave on the first.
?All right, that?s it!? Kirk announces, calling the team members over. ?Orange Iguanas, Purple Parrots! Let?s check it out!? The camera focuses in on the orange and purple flags used by the spotters to mark the teams? progress. ?Orange made it up to there? they made it seven steps, but the Purple Parrots made it eight! Purple Parrots get the full Pendant, that gives them a Pendant and a half, the Orange Iguanas had a half.  The Purple Parrots are goin? to the Temple!? Janine squeals in excitement; she and Dave high-five while Kirk goes to talk with Bryan and Lindsay. ?Orange Iguanas gave it a great effort too, it was a tough match.  We got a great gift for them for playing and here?s what it is.? Bryan and Lindsay will each be receiving a $100 U.S. Savings Bond provided by Skechers footwear.
The camera cuts away from the consolation prize, and Kirk is in front of the equipment for the third Temple Game with his hands on Dave and Janine?s shoulders. ?Now we?ll see if the Purple Parrots can make it through Olmec?s Temple and retrieve that Heart-Shaped Locket of Elisabeth of Vabaria,? he says, ?right after this!? The camera snakes around the Temple Game equipment and runs across to the foam block pit in the Pit of Despair; it zooms in on the foam blocks as the show?s logo reappears and the camera fades to commercial.

Rediscovery EP: The Heart-Shaped Locket of Elisabeth of?
« Reply #3 on: June 07, 2010, 05:21:51 PM »
When the camera fades in, the show's logo is placed over a shot of a plastic lizard next to the outer wall of the Central Dock.  The pendant breaks apart, the title disappears into the distance and the camera segues to Kirk, Janine and Dave standing in front of the Temple Gate. "Welcome back to Legends!" says Kirk to the camera. "The Purple Parrots have proven themselves worthy and earned the right to enter the Temple, but first, Olmec's gonna give them some information to help them retrieve the Heart-Shaped Locket of Elisabeth of Bavaria!"
Olmec begins to give the rundown:
?You could start by running up to the Room of the Ancient Masks! Push in the correct mask, and pass into the Pit of Despair.  There you must choose your next path.  You could race up into the Observatory, read the instructions on the far wall through the telescope and follow the instructions to open the door to the Central Dock.  Assemble the ship, and pass into the Den of Totem Poles.  Turn all the faces forward; that may take you below or lead you into the SHRIIIINE? of the Silver Monkey! Assemble the statue, and you may be headed toward the Pirate?s Cove! Place the torch in the correct holder to go back, or spin the ship?s wheel and enter the Graveyard of Ships.
?Stand on the correct grave to go upstairs? but beware the Temple Guards that may be haunting the graves? or plow through the wall and into the Viper?s Nest! Reach into the snake jars and find the key, and you?ll enter the Bamboo Forest! If you escape, you might have a chance to enter the Lost Treasury, where you can grab the Heart-Shaped Locket.  If the correct door is unlocked, you?ll be able to crawl back into the Pit, and finally climb through the Cave, race down the stairs and back through the Temple Gate.  The choices are yours and yours alone!? Olmec pauses momentarily. "You won 1 ? Pendants in the Temple Games.  Who's going first??
"I am," says Janine.
"Very well, Janine!" replies Olmec as Kirk hands out the Pendants of Life. "When Kirk gives the signal, you'll race through the gates into the Temple and make your way towards the Heart-Shaped Locket of Elisabeth of Bavaria.  Hidden inside the Temple are three secret passages that may lead you into the Bamboo Forest, as well as Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms.  You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on BUT? if you're caught without a Pendant, you'll be taken out of the Temple? and then it'll be Dave's turn to enter and try his luck.  Hidden somewhere in the Temple is the other half of your Pendant.  If you can find it and you're carrying the other half, you will get an extra life.  If you reach the Locket, all the doors of the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish.  Return through the gates with the Heart-Shaped Locket in three minutes, and you will both be handsomely rewarded? and here's how!"
?   For just getting into the Temple, they're both going to get a Schwinn Mesa mountain bike.
?   If they can grab the Locket in three minutes, they're also going to get Compton's Interactive Encyclopedia on CD-ROM, provided by Compton's New Media.
?   And if they can get the Locket out of the Temple before three minutes are up, they're both going to the Bahamas! The Bahamas Princess Resort, on exciting Grand Bahama Island, offering tennis, swimming and international entertainment.  Fun for the whole family, from the Bahamas Princess Resort!

"Can the Purple Parrots do it?" Kirk asks the camera as it cuts back from the grand prize. "Will they get the Cloak and back in three minutes? We're about to find out!" He then turns to Janine. "Janine, let's get you out in front.  Put your mouthpieces in? both of you, you never know when you gotta go in.  Olmec, lower your gate!"
Olmec groans gutturally as he lowers the gate; the faint orange lights under him are turned off.
"Set the clock for three minutes." The clock appears onscreen. "On your mark, get set, GO!"

?There she goes! Up into the Temple!? Kirk starts his commentary the usual way as Janine starts up the stairs and beyond the gate.  She then slides down into the Cave, but something pulls her feet out from under her?
?TEMPLE GUARD! Quick, give ?em the Pendant!? shouts Kirk, and Janine hands over her Pendant of Life with 2:48 on the clock.  She then goes to check the lower crawl tube, which doesn?t open (2:42).  After that, she quickly checks the upper crawl tube, then finally climbs up into the Room of the Ancient Masks, setting foot in the room with 2:31 to go.  She first pushes the mask stage-left of the Temple Guard door, which is the correct mask, and then moves into the Pit of Despair with 2:25 on the clock.  After a second of hesitation, Janine carefully walks across the plank-like beam further away from the camera to get to the Observatory door.
?She?s speeding up, but next time a Temple Guard gets her, it?ll be turn for Dave!? Kirk declares as Janine hits the actuator for the Observatory; as she goes through the door, the camera zooms in on the half-Pendant in the Central Dock actuator.  Once she lands in the room with 2:15, she goes over to the telescope pointed at the far wall and focuses it. ?She?s gotta look through the telescope and do what it says on the other wall to move on!? explains Kirk as Janine moves away from the telescope and presses down on the models of Jupiter and Saturn on the stage-right altar in the foreground, opening the path to the Den of Totem Poles.  She then moves on and sets foot in the Den with 2:04 to go. ?This is a strong, smart Purple Parrots team! Can they get the Locket?? Janine hesitates for a second, but then manages to turn all the faces on the stage-right totem pole out toward the audience in roughly ten seconds.  She then moves to the stage-left pole and aligns that as well with 1:40 seconds on the clock.  The door into the Shrine of the Silver Monkey opens, and Janine moves on? but a second Temple Guard takes her out with 1:36 on the clock.
?Oh, Temple Guard! Go Dave!? shouts Kirk, and Dave runs up the stairs towards the Room of the Ancient Masks.  He enters the Pit of Despair with 1:27 left, quickly crosses the beam and gets up into the Observatory (1:20).  He then passes into the Den of Totem Poles (1:16) and finally enters the Shrine of the Silver Monkey with 1:10 to spare. ?He?s got a lot of time to get there, he?s just a few rooms away!? Kirk remarks as Dave starts to put the statue together, gathering the pieces one at a time.  He has a little difficulty with the middle piece of the statue, but manages to jam the head down with 52 seconds on the clock, opening all the doors leading out of the room.
?Looks like he?s going down,? Kirk notes as Dave passes through the cabinet-like door in the back of the room and jumps down the ladder, ?down into the Viper?s Nest!? Right after Dave enters the Viper?s Nest with 47 seconds to go, he runs to the altar at the front of the room and opens up the middle snake jar to look for the key.  It?s in the first jar he opens, and he goes over to place it on the panel next to the right-side door closer to the front of the room (0:39).  The door opens, and he crawls through into the Bamboo Forest. ?He?s just one room away from the Heart-Shaped Locket! Can he make it?? Dave makes his way through the Bamboo Forest by staying low, finding openings in each parallel web of bamboo shoots which he can almost crawl through.  With 26 seconds on the clock, he hits the actuator for the Lost Treasury and scrambles into the room.  Three seconds later, he grabs the Heart-Shaped Locket and all the doors of the Temple start to open.
?HE?S GOT IT!? Kirk declares, and Janine starts screaming in excitement in the background as Dave enters the passage connecting the Lost Treasury to the Pit. ?All the doors are open! Twenty seconds!? Dave moves into the lower crawl tube entering the Cave with sixteen seconds on the clock, then starts heading up towards the slide.  The audience starts counting down as he makes it through the ledges. ?Oh my, it?s gonna be close! Can he make it?? asks Kirk as Dave leaves the Cave with only nine seconds left. ?Eight! Seven! Six! Five! Four? they got it!? Heart-Shaped Locket in hand, Dave emerges from behind Olmec just before the display on the clock switches to 0:03.
?They did it!? announces Kirk as the audience bursts into even louder cheers and applause than during the Temple Run.  Janine and Dave high-five, and then Janine squeals and jumps in the air. ?They got the Locket! They got it all, folks! They get the mountain bikes, the CD-ROMs? they?re going to the Bahamas!? Dave raises his hands in the air as Kirk holds for the audience to cheer again. ?This is a strong Purple Parrots team, I loved them all day, but we gotta get outta here.  I don?t wanna, but we have to.? He turns and points at the camera as he delivers the closing line. ?Join us again next time for more adventure and another great Legend of the Hidden Temple! Buh-bye!? Kirk and the Purple Parrots then join together in a group hug, and the camera shows rooms such as the Bamboo Forest, Lost Treasury and Observatory, along multiple pans over the audience and Moat as the credits roll.

Rediscovery EP: The Heart-Shaped Locket of Elisabeth of?

Episode Summary
Episode 86px]

Name of Artifact: The Heart-Shaped Locket of Elisabeth of Bavaria
Season: 3
Layout: 1 (11 overall)
Result: Made it!
Time Remaining: 0:04
Team: Purple Parrots
Pendants Won: 1 ?
Location of Artifact: The Lost Treasury

If this episode had a theme word, I'd have to guess it'd be "first." The second season of The Rediscovery was recorded and premiered in early 2007, and no signs of a third were shown throughout 2008 or 2009, during which the show even seemed to gradually disappear from the lineup.  When it seemed like it was all over, this became the first new episode of The Rediscovery in about three years, and not only that, but throughout, multiple significant events occurred for the first time in the show.  Dave and Janine proved themselves to be strong players, as they set a record for their team color and a bigger one for the show itself.

Both Purple Parrots were solid players; they tied for first in the Moat, and showed both memory and skills in the Temple Games.  Neither player was a real speed demon in the Temple, but they knew what they were doing and both moved at an acceptable pace, at least.  Janine immediately hit a Temple Guard in the Cave and was forced to enter the Pit of Despair from the Room of the Ancient Masks, but thankfully, she didn't waste time by jumping down into the pit to try the Lost Treasury door.  She made decent time in each room up until her removal from the Shrine of the Silver Monkey with 1:36 to go.

Dave passed up the half Pendant on the Observatory actuator, but luckily, it didn't cost him, most likely because he made the smart move of going down into the Viper's Nest from the Shrine and skipped two rooms.  He wasn't the fastest player in the history of the show; nevertheless, he was noticeably quicker than Janine and managed to grab the Heart-Shaped Locket with 23 seconds with which to escape.  Nineteen seconds later, he emerged from behind Olmec to record the impressive win.

Trivia and Records:
This episode featured the first Temple Games round in either the original show or The Rediscovery in which the Purple Parrots defeated the Orange Iguanas rather than vice versa.  More impressively, it also featured the very first successful retrieval of an artifact from the bottom room of the central shaft.

YES! YOU INCLUDED THE BAMBOO FOREST!! But I did think that the temple layout was a bit of a disappointment as compared to the previous season.

The Temple Layout also seems a little "blah" to me...but maybe it's just because last season included so many good rooms. Eh, I'll get over it--the Observatory and the Graveyard are my two faves.

But I did love this episode, especially the great legend, the "Purple Parrots Pwnage", as PPF would call it, and of course, the epic win that, IMO, kicked off this season with the sheer bang that it needed to be started with. I'll be DAMN SURE to check the next one out next Monday.

You know, it's funny you guys should say that.  Part of the reason Layout XI came out the way it did was because, three years wiser and looking back at my plans for Season 2, I started to feel like a lot of the room ideas I came up with deviated too much from the actual show (that might have to do with such things as removing the key from the room below the Shrine, taking out the "choose one of three" objective in the upper entrance, etc.).  I guess this is a lesson that naturalism isn't always the best thing, huh? :P

What do you recommend I change? Should I choose a deeper yellow (which could make some of the other colors very difficult to see), or go with a different purple or change the background color altogether?

No change the color scheme altogether.

Might I suggest a Blue and Silver color scheme instead?

Well, my point in choosing the yellow-and-green scheme was that it was supposed to reflect the "tropical" theme of the third season, much like the light blue scheme for the Season 2 diagrams was supposed to be read as "winter." I didn't want to stray too far from that, and one of the reasons I chose a deep purple this time was to keep the colors I use for all six teams consistent throughout the dialogue, diagrams, etc.

I'll definitely try to experiment a bit, though, and see if I could possibly get a less ugly result without losing the "tropical" theme.

Might I suggest that something like this might be a bit better:

All I've done is toned down the colors so they look much muter than their previous overly radical forms. I think it's much better-looking if the background colors are cool colors (blues, greens, whites) or muted colors rather than warm colors (reds, yellows, oranges).

And yeah... me being an idiot, as usual, I forgot to save a blank copy. So if you actually want to use my idea, sorry, TAW. ^^;

EDIT: The quality got screwed somehow anyway, so yeah, just a rough guide if you choose to use a similar color scheme. :P
