Episode 6: ?The Macaroni Feather of Yankee Doodle?

*the camera zooms in on an ancient lush jungle, the palms are moving away as an elephant is heard*

*all the palms are gone, showing Olmec*

Olmec: Legends of the Hidden Temple. With your guide? Kirk Fogg!

*Kirk is shown slidding down a zipline & jumping off into the usual area*

Kirk: Thank you everyone. Thank you Olmec. Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple. The rooms are The rooms are filled with lost treasures protected by mysterious Mayan temple guards. Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple. Which one are we going to hear about today?

Olmec: The Macaroni Feather of Yankee Doodle.

Kirk: The Macaroni Feather of Yankee Doodle! Well, one of these six teams will have the chance to retrieve the Cap. Will it be *camera zooms into each team as they cheer & the usual* The Red Jaguars? The Blue Barracudas? The Green Monkeys? The Orange Iguanas? The Purple Parrots? Or the Silver Snakes? They?re going to have to pass some tough mental and physical tests, and in the end, only one team will have the right to enter Olmec?s temple, but first they have to cross the moat, and Olmec will tell us how they?ll have to do it today.

Olmec: Each team will have 1 rope. There will be a small "island" (platform) in the middle. On go, one player will swing out to the middle of the island. They will pull a hanging chain, which will release a hooked bridge that was attached to the bottom. Than, you'll walk across the bridge to the other side. Than you're partner will swing across & walk across the bridge to ring the gong *Kirk bangs the Silver Snakes? gong*. The first four teams to hit their gong will go on to the next round.

Kirk: Alright, teams are you ready?!

*the teams cheer*

Kirk: Olmec, are you ready?!

Olmec: You betcha Kirk!

Kirk: On your marks? get set? GO!!!!!

*the 6 teams swing out to the platform*

*all 6 make it across & get across*

*the second players swing across, but Orange Iguanas & Silver Snakes fall in the water*

*Red Jaguars, Green Monkeys, Purple Parrots, & Blue Barracudas bang their gongs in that order*

Kirk: Whoa, you teams did that fast! Going onto the Steps of Knowledge are the Purple Parrots! & the Green Monkeys! & the Blue Barracudas! & the Red Jaguars. Orange Iguanas & Silver Snakes, hey, at least you put in your all, & you won?t be going home empty handed. *Olmec explains prize*

*the camera changes to the four dry teams on the top of the Steps of Knowledge*

Kirk: As the quest continues, it?s now time for Olmec to tell us about the Macaroni Feather of Yankee Doodle. Bur before we get started, pay attention, because your knowledge of the legend can bring you a step closer to Olmec?s Temple.

Olmec: ?Yankee Doodle went to town riding on a pony, stuck a feather in his hat & called it macaroni? are the first lyrics to the classic patriotic song ?Yankee Doodle?. The British made it up in the Revolutionary War, with a doodle being a fool, & a Yankee being a colonist. With many versions to the same tune being made over time, eventually we came across what we now know today as ?Yankee Doodle?. When Connecticut became a state, they officially adopted the song as their state anthem.

Connecticut Governor: & on this day, we officially made ?Yankee Doodle? the state song, & we will reveal to you the secret project.

Olmec: & the governor pulled a sheet off a giant rock, revealing a monument statue of a character ?Yankee Doodle?. The governor placed a yellow feather on top & called it the Macaroni Feather. As time went on, the Macaroni Feather disappeared & made its way to the Temple. It is your job to find the Macaroni Feather of Yankee Doodle & bring it back here!

Kirk: Olmec, tell us where the Macaroni Feather is!

Olmec: The Macaroni Feather of Yankee Doodle can be found in the Shriiiiiiiiine of the Siiiiilver Monkey.

Kirk: OK. Teams: you are standing on the Steps of Knowledge. In a minute, Olmec will ask you a question about today?s legend. If you think you know the answer, stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you. Go ahead, stomp on it!

*Red Jaguars hit the step*

Kirk: OK, Red Jaguars, since you rang in first, you would be able to answer. If you?re right, you?ll move down to the next level. If you?re wrong or run out of time, I?m going to give the other teams a chance to answer. The first two teams to make it to the bottom level *Kirk runs down there* will be one step closer to Olmec?s Temple. Olmec, we are now ready for the first question.

Olmec: Today, Yankee Doodle is sung patriotically, but in the past, it was sung: in depression, satirical, or happily?

Red Jaguars: In depression!

Olmec: Incorrect!

Blue Barracudas: Satirical?

Olmec: That is correct!

*Blue Barracudas move down a step*

Olmec: Is Yankee Doodle the anthem of: Massachusetts, Rhode Island, or Connecticut?

Red Jaguars: Connecticut!

Olmec: That is correct!

*Red Jaguars move down a step*

Olmec: Is a doodle: a dumb person, a fool, or a weirdo?

Red Jaguars: A fool!

Olmec: That is correct!

*Red Jaguars move down a step*

Kirk: Red Jaguars need one more correct answer.

Olmec: What did Yankee Doodle call his feather? Macaroni, Cheese, or Tomato?

Purple Parrots: Macaroni!

Olmec: That is correct!

*Purple Parrots move down a step*

Olmec: A Yankee is: A Colonist, A Slave, or A Maid?

Blue Barracudas: A Colonist!

Olmec: That is correct!

*Blue Barracudas move down a step*

Kirk: Blue Barracudas need one more correct answer to move on.

Olmec: Yankee Doodle was created in: the Revolutionary War, the War of 1828, or the Civil War?

Blue Barracudas: The Revolutionary War!

Olmec: That is correct!

*Blue Barracudas move to the bottom*

Kirk: One more team can join the Blue Barracudas!

Olmec: Did the governor of Connecticut insert in the statue: a feather, a hat, or horse?

Red Jaguars: A feather!

Olmec: That is correct!

Kirk: Green Monkeys, Purple Parrots, you tried your best, which is what counts. You?ll go home rewarded. *Olmec explains prize*

Kirk: *only Red Jaguars & Blue Barracudas are present* These two teams will fight to enter Olmec?s Temple right after this!

Kirk: Welcome back to Legends. Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest. But before we get started, let?s find out a little about our teams. On the Red Jaguars, we have Howie. He likes Star Wars & wants to be a DJ when he grows up. His partner is Janelle, who likes to shop & wants to be a cosmetician when she grows up. The Blue Barracudas has Gerry, who likes to eat & wants to be a teacher. His partner is Jennifer, who collects seashells & her favorite subject in school is Social Studies. Let?s here it for the teams! Now, girls get ready for the first Temple Game, guys get ready for the second. Okay, go get ready for the Temple Games, I?m going to explain what?s gonna happen. Teams are competing in temple games to win: Pendants of Life. *shows two pendants* They?re going to need those pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded temple guards as they make their way through the temple. There are three temple games. Olmec, tell us about temple game number one.

Olmec: Yankee Doodle was often riding on his pony. Now, you?ll have to ride a pony. Sit on the contraption with your hands in the air. It will shake. You will be disqualified if you touch the contraption. The person who stays on the longest wins.

Kirk: Oh, they?ll be going to town! On your marks? get set? GO!!!!!

*Gerry immediately falls off after 6 seconds*

Kirk: Oh, that was quick! Gerry just fell off & the Red Jaguars win the ? Pendant of Life! Next game is a ? Pendant, Olmec, tell us about it!

Olmec: When a big gust of wind came, the feather fell off the statue & they had to replace it. Now, you?ll have to chase after the feathers! There is a square of beams 2 feet above the ground. Each of you guys have a flag on your backs & have a bucket in opposite corners, each with 3 feathers. On go, you?ll try to walk across the beams. When you get to your opponent?s bucket, grab one of her feathers & complete the square by going back to your bucket & put the flag in. If you reach your opponent, you can pull her flag off & the game is over. After 60 seconds or when someone gets eliminated, whichever person has the most feathers, or whoever gets 6 feathers first wins.

Kirk: They?ll be chasing some feathers! On your marks? get set? GO!!!!!

*Janelle & Jennifer start walking across the beams, but Janelle is getting a lead*

*40 seconds are left, Janelle has 4 feathers, Jennifer has 2, but each person has a feather in their hand*

*Janelle runs across the beam to get to Jennifer*

*Janelle pulls off Jennifer?s flag with 36 seconds left*

Kirk: That?s it, that?s it! Stop the clocks! Drop your feathers! Red Jaguars had 1? 2? 3 feathers! Blue Barracudas had 1 feather! Red Jaguars win the ? Pendant of Life. So that makes Red Jaguars 1 Pendant, Blue Barracudas 0. Olmec, tell us about the final Temple Game.

Olmec: It took a while for Yankee Doodle to find the perfect feather to call macaroni. Each person is attached to a cord, attached to a bar, where your partner is on the other side. On go, one person will run on the ramp, propelling them & their partner in a circle. Your partner will grab a feather off the board & run on the ramp to keep the speed. When they are close enough, they?ll throw the feather into their bucket. If they get it in their opponent?s bucket, it still counts? for them! At the end of 60 seconds, the team with the most feathers wins!

Kirk: Blue Barracudas need this to tie! On your marks? get set? GO!!!!!

*both teams are having problems moving around, but Red Jaguars start going, but the feathers don?t get into the bucket, because the wind catches them & they just float for a while*

*with 31 seconds left, the Blue Barracudas start to throw feathers in there, but the feathers are too light to do anything*

*the game ends with no score for each team*

Kirk: Time! Now that wasn?t that hard, was it? Both teams got 0, both teams get the Pendant of Life. Red Jaguars have 2, Blue Barracudas have 1, the Red Jaguars go to the Temple! Blue Barracudas, you guys gave it your all, you fought tough, but you still go home with a prize. *Olmec explains prize*

Kirk: *only Red Jaguars are present* When we come back, we?ll see if the Red Jaguars can retrieve the Macaroni Feather of Yankee Doodle, right after this!

Kirk: Welcome back. Howie & Janelle have proven themselves worthy and have earned themselves the right to enter Olmec?s temple. But before we get started, Olmec, can you give the Red Jaguars any clues about your Temple & how to retrieve the Macaroni Feather of Yankee Doodle?

Olmec: You can start off in the Miner?s Cave. Crawl through the tunnel to make it into the Pit of Anguish. If you can get across, you can head into the Crocodile?s Mouth! Grab the fish from the walls & put them into the crocodile?s mouth & you can go up into the Ranch! Or you can head into the Anaconda?s Sanctuary. Untangle the snake & attach it to the wall & go into the Sacred Safari! Find the key in the elephant?s mouth, but beware of the Temple Guards, disguised as elephants! You can go up, or bust through the wall into the Battlefield! Jump on the trampoline to reach the ladder in the Ninja?s Secret Training Chamber & climb into the Ladder of Doom! Put the correct torch into the torch holder & enter the Shriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine of the Siiiiiiilver Monkey, where you can grab Macaroni Feather! Assemble the statue & go into the Chamber of the Royal Containers. Dump the containers on the floor & find the key to go down, or head into the Observation Tower! Line up the telescope with the markings on the wall to open the door to cross the Stumps of Dejection! Use the 2 planks to get across the four stumps, or jump back into the Pit of Anguish. Race thorough the Hammered Nails & back to the Temple Gates! The choices are yours & yours alone! You won two pendants into the Temple. Who is going first?

Howie: I am!

Olmec: Very well, Howie! When Kirk gives the signal, you?ll race through the gate into the temple and make your way towards the Macaroni Feather of Yankee Doodle. Hidden inside the temple are temple guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. You can trade your pendant for an extra life and go on, but if you?re caught without a pendant, you?ll be taken out of the temple and it will be Janelle?s turn to try her luck. Hidden inside the Temple is a ? Pendant. If you find it, you get an extra life. If you can reach the artifact, all the doors in the temple will instantly unlock, and the temple guards will vanish. Return through the gates with the artifact within three minutes, and you will both be handsomely rewarded. And here?s how! *Olmec explains three prizes*

Kirk: The Red Jaguars are confident they?ll make it! On your marks? get set? GO!!!!!

*Howie runs up the stairs & crawls into the Miner?s Cave*

*he goes into the Pit of Anguish & the door to the Crocodile?s Mouth won?t open, so he climbs the wall & enters the Observation Tower with 2:12 left, since the Ranch didn?t open*

*he lines up the telescope & goes into the Chamber of the Royal Containers with 2:06 left*

*a Temple Guard takes his Pendant & the Shrine door won?t open, so he pours the pots & gets the key*

*the door to the Anaconda?s Sanctuary won?t open, so he goes back into the Ranch with 1:43 left*

*he quickly saddles the horse & goes down into the Crocodile?s Mouth with 1:38 left*

*he grabs the 9 fish & throws them in the mouth & goes into the Anaconda?s Sanctuary with 1:31 left*

*he untangles the snake moderately & enters the Sacred Safari with 1:17 left*

*he busts through the wall & starts to climb the ladder when a Temple Guard captures him with 1:12 left*

*Janelle follows his path & enters the Sacred Safari with 0:39 left*

*she puts her hand in the elephant & a Temple Guard takes her Pendant*

*she gets the key, but the door to the Shrine of the Silver Monkey won?t open, so she goes into the Battlefield with 0:16 left*

*she climbs the ladder, but the door wouldn?t open*

*Janelle jumps on the trampoline & enters the Ladder of Doom with 0:08 seconds left*

*she puts in 2 torches & the second one works & she runs into the Shrine of the Silver Monkey just when time runs out*

Kirk: Oh, so close! She almost got the Macaroni Feather! Oh, Janelle, come over here. You & Howie did an awesome job, but you just came up short! We gotta go now, join us next time on a great (all 3) Legends of the Hidden Temple! Buh-bye!

Fan Summary:
The Macaroni Feather of Yankee Doodle

Name of Artifact: The Macaroni Feather of Yankee Doodle
Season: 4
Layout: 7
Result: Ran Out of Time
Time Remaining: N/A
Team: Red Jaguars
Pendants Won: 2
Location of Artifact: The Shrine of the Silver Monkey
Temple Diagram:

Temple Run Summary: This is a good example of when 2 tactical geniuses are against a brutal layout! This required 10/11 (depending if you count the Pit of Anguish & Stumps of Dejection as 2 rooms or 1) rooms to complete before the artifact! Howie made good speed, but he had to climb all the way up from the Pit of Anguish. He then had to backtrack from the Chamber of the Royal Containers to the Ranch. Then he went down & across the left. He avoided the elephants & was caught in the Battlefield. Howie was really fast. So was Janelle. She sped through the Temple & got to the Sacred Safari. She then tried to go up, gave the Pendant away, but no door opened. She went in the Battlefield & jumped up through the Ninja's Secret Training Lair & entered the Ladder of Doom. The second torch was it & she entered the Shrine of the Silver Monkey just as time expired. It was pretty unfair, but exciting.

Side Note:

The third Temple Game pulled a Sforza. It was the one where they had to propel themselves aruond the circle & grab an item (a feather this time) & throw it in the bucket. Because feathers are light, it is almost virtually impossible to throw a feather in a far distance & get accuracy of where you want to hit it. Because of the poor design by the producers, the final score was 0-0. You'd think they'd learn from past experience.

Episode Fanfic written by Olmec. Episode Summary format and Temple Diagram in the style of nicklegends.
