Rediscovery EP: The 96th Thesis of Martin Luther
« Reply #1 on: September 11, 2009, 10:07:45 PM »
The four teams are now at the top of the Steps of Knowledge accompanied by Kirk. "The quest continues, and it's now time for Olmec to tell us about the 69th Thesis of Martin Luther.  Pay attention, teams, because your knowledge of the Legend can bring you a step closer to the Temple."
Olmec begins to tell the legend:
" 'As soon as the coin in the coffer rings, the soul from purgatory springs.' At least, that's what Johann Tetzel managed to convince a lot of people in medieval Germany.  He traveled around gathering money for the church in the form of indulgences? payments for a lost soul to be saved.  Many people paid, but a man named Martin Luther was not amused.
" 'I fail to see how zat voult vork! You can't just pay ze church to save ze dead!' he said as he wrote by candlelight in his study.  When he was done, Martin had written a list of 96 theses on the sale of indulgences, but at the last minute he tore off the last one before it was blown away to the wind.  He posted the remaining 95 on the front door of the Wittenberg church, but the Last Thesis made its way to the Temple.  You must find the Last Thesis of Martin Luther and bring it back here."

"Thank you Olmec," Kirk says after Olmec finishes telling the legend. "So tell us, where is this Last Thesis of Martin Luther?"
Olmec replies:
"The 96th Thesis of Martin Luther can be found in the Dungeon." The camera zooms in on a tiny roll of parchment next to the Pharaoh?s Secret Passage, then fades back to Kirk.

"All right.  Teams," Kirk begins, walking down the steps, "you're now standing on the Steps of Knowledge, and in a minute, Olmec is gonna ask you a question.  If you think you know the answer, I want you to stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you.  If you're right, you?ll move down to the next level, but if you're wrong or run out of time, I'll give the other teams a chance to answer.  The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec's Temple.  Olmec, we?re ready for your first question."

Olmec begins:
?Was Martin Luther from: France???
James hits the marking first: ?Germany???
?Correct,? answers Olmec.
?Red Jaguars, nice job, jump down,? Kirk comments, and the Red Jaguars move down to the second step. ?Next question.?
Olmec asks:
?Martin Luther opposed payment for redeeming lost souls.  Was this practice called: Communion, Indulgences or Holy???
Emily cuts off Olmec this time: ?Indulgences.?
?Correct,? Olmec replies.
?Silver Snakes, step down!? says Kirk, and the Silver Snakes also move down to the second level. ?Olmec, next question.?
Olmec now asks:
?Did Martin post his theses on the church?s: Front door, Altar or Stained-gla???
Sarah interrupts now: ?The? uh? the front door???
?Correct.?
?Blue Barracudas can still get into this,? Kirk explains as the Orange Iguanas move down to the second level. ?This match is heating up.  Next question.?
Olmec asks:
?How many theses did he post on the church door???
Chad buzzes in: ?Ninety-five???
?Correct,? says Olmec in response.
?All right, everyone?s on the board now!? Kirk remarks as the Blue Barracudas move down to the second step as well. ?Next question, Olmec!?
Olmec then asks:
?According to the saying, ?as soon as the coin in the coffer rings????
Samantha gongs in: ?The soul from? pur?gatory springs.?
?That is correct,? Olmec replies.
?Red Jaguars now just one step away from the Temple Games!? comments Kirk. ?We?re looking for two teams, though.  Olmec, next question, please.?
Olmec continues:
?Was that saying told by: Johann Sebastian Bach, Johann Tetzel or Johannes???
Samantha rings in again: ?Johann Tetzel???
?That is correct!? shouts Olmec, and the Red Jaguars move down to the bottommost step.
?All right! We got our first team moving on to the Temple Games, and it?s the Red Jaguars!? Kirk announces. ?We got room for one more team; will it be the Blue Barracudas, Orange Iguanas or Silver Snakes? Olmec, continue.?
Olmec does so by asking:
?According to our legend, which of these did Martin do to the 96th Thesis???
Emily cuts Olmec off this time: ?He? He decided he didn?t want it anymore and tore it? got rid of it.?
After a pause, Olmec replies:
?That?s good enough for Olmec.?
?All right, Silver Snakes, step down!? Kirk says, and the Silver Snakes walk down onto the penultimate level. ?Now you?re just one step away from the Temple Games.  Olmec, next question.?
Olmec asks:
?Was the church Martin posted his theses at in the town of: Munich, Wittenberg or Dresden??
Colin stomps down and guesses: ?Um? Witten?berg??
?THAT IS CORRECT!? Olmec bellows, and the Silver Snakes move down to the bottommost level.
?All right! We got our two teams right here!? The camera shows Kirk standing one step behind the two teams, who are jumping up and down and celebrating with each other. ?It?s the Red Jaguars and the Silver Snakes! Orange Iguanas, Blue Barracudas, great effort.  You?re not going away empty-handed, we got a great gift for you for playing and here?s what it is.? Chad, Dana, Tanner and Sarah will each be receiving a watch provided by Armitron.
The camera switches back to Kirk with the Red Jaguars and Silver Snakes. ?These two teams are gonna play for the rights to enter into Olmec?s Temple, and they?re gonna do it right after this!? The camera zooms out, then pans over the Moat and fades to commercial.

Rediscovery EP: The 96th Thesis of Martin Luther
« Reply #2 on: September 11, 2009, 10:08:22 PM »
The camera shows Kirk standing between the two qualifying teams in front of the Great Chasm. ?Welcome back to Legends!? he says. ?Now, of course, the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest, so let?s hear it for James and Samantha of the Red Jaguars!? The dark-haired boy and the girl with a braided blond ponytail high-five each other. ?And Emily and Colin of the Silver Snakes!? The wavy-red-haired girl and the short-haired boy clap along with the audience.
?Now, go get ready for the Temple Games,? Kirk says as the players walk offscreen, ?and I'll explain what's gonna happen here.  Now, in the Temple Games, these teams will be competing to win?" he opens his pocket and pulls out a small gold medallion to show to the camera? "Pendants of Life.  The winning team will need those Pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded Temple Guards as they make their way through the Temple.  There are three Temple Games, and Olmec will tell us about the first one.?

Olmec begins:
?According to legend, Martin Luther wrote 96 theses against the sale of indulgences.  In this game, you?ll just have 60 seconds to write as many as you can.  When Kirk gives the signal, climb on the wheel and adjust your weight to make the wheel spin.  When it makes one full rotation, it means you have written one thesis.  The player who writes the most theses in 60 seconds wins.?
?Speed writing, right?? Kirk says. ?Let?s put 60 seconds on the clock.? The clock appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen, and Kirk dashes off to the side. ?On your mark, get set, GO!?
Samantha and Emily both keep up a fair pace running on the wheels, but neither goes too fast so that they don?t lost balance.  However, Samantha eventually falls off the wheel with 24 seconds left, letting Emily slip ahead.  She then keeps falling off for a while after that, not really getting going again until about the :16 mark.  Both girls fall off once with time ticking down; when time runs out, a pattern of ceiling spotlights flashes to indicate that time is up.
?All right, time?s up!? Kirk comments, reappearing onscreen. ?Both girls did a great job here.  Samantha got 8 thesis, but Emily got 12 thesis! The half Pendant of Life goes to the Silver Snakes!? The audience applauds briefly. ?Red Jaguars can catch up in this next game; it?s worth a half Pendant.  Olmec, tell us about it.?

Olmec continues:
?Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door of the church in Wittenberg.  In this game, however, you must remove a few nails from the ceiling above you.  When Kirk gives the signal, jump up, grab a nail off the ceiling, and come back down to place it in your bin.  Then, jump back up and grab another.
?The first player to remove all the nails? or the player that grabs the most nails in 60 seconds? wins.?
The camera shows Kirk standing in front of the equipment for the Temple Game. ?Removing nails without a hammer? could be tricky,? Kirk says. ?Let?s put 60 seconds on the clock.? The clock appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen. ?On your mark, get set, GO!?
Early in the game, the lead switches between James and Colin a lot.  At first James is moving a bit faster, but when he fails to jump high enough to get his third nail, Colin takes a slight lead as James tries again.  Just before the halfway mark, some failed reaches by Colin give James the lead again.
?It keeps switching back and forth, this could be hard to call!? Kirk remarks when 30 seconds are left.  James is reaching up for his sixth nail, while Colin is just coming back with his fifth.  By the time only 20 seconds are left, James has a much better-established lead due to Colin consistently failing to jump high enough.  When time runs out, the ceiling spotlights flash again.
?That?s it! Come on down, guys!? Kirk announces as he runs onscreen from the side. ?James got just one nail up there, but Colin has three? Silver? wait, no? Red Jaguars get the half Pendant of Life!? The audience applauds. ?So now it?s all tied up at a half Pendant apiece, so we go to the third and final game, it?s worth a full Pendant.  Olmec, tell us about Temple Game #3.?

Olmec narrates:
?Martin Luther was against the sale of indulgences, which was paying for someone?s redemption.  In this game, you and your partner will need to transfer some money.  When Kirk gives the signal, put a gold ball between your legs.  You and your partner will then swing out on the trapeze to the middle, where you?ll meet and transfer the ball.  Then, swing back, place it in your team?s treasure box and try it again.
?The team with the most gold balls in their treasure box after 60 seconds wins.?
?This is for the Temple,? Kirk reminds the audience. ?Let?s put 60 seconds on the clock.? The clock appears onscreen. ?On your mark, get set, GO!?
The game turns out to be trickier than the Silver Snakes thought at first, but the Red Jaguars complete their first successful transfer fairly early on.  However, the next transfers by both teams are failures; the Jaguars, it seems, only got lucky.
?This game?s very tough! Takes a lot of communication, coordination?? Kirk remarks as the players return to the starting positions.  Neither team finishes another transfer for the rest of the game; the ceiling spotlights flash when time runs out, and Kirk goes over to check out the treasure boxes.
?Okay,? he says. ?Silver didn?t get any gold, but Red got one gold ball, so they get the full Pendant, giving them a Pendant and a half? they?re going to the Temple!? James and Samantha meet each other, applauding and sharing some congratulatory high-fives and hugs with Colin and Emily. ?The Silver Snakes gave it a great effort, and they?re not going away empty-handed.  Here?s what we?ve got for them.? Colin and Emily will each be receiving a copy of the Kingdom Hearts II PlayStation 2 game.
When the camera cuts back from the consolation prize, only Kirk and the Red Jaguars are present, standing in the middle of the equipment for the third Temple Game. ?Now we?ll see if the Red Jaguars can make it through Olmec?s Temple and retrieve that 96th Thesis of Martin Luther,? he says, ?right after this!? The camera swerves across the stage and zooms in on the 96th Thesis in the Dungeon before fading to commercial.

Rediscovery EP: The 96th Thesis of Martin Luther
« Reply #3 on: September 11, 2009, 10:08:56 PM »
Kirk stands in front of the Temple's stairs to the camera-right of James and Samantha. "Welcome back to Legends," he says to the camera. "The Red Jaguars have proven themselves worthy and now have earned the right to enter the Temple.  But first, Olmec?s gonna give them some information to help them retrieve the 96th Thesis of Martin Luther."
Olmec begins to give the rundown:
?You could start by climbing through the Crevasse and climbing down into the Great Chasm.  Crawl through the pit, then race into the Crystal Cave.  Pull down the correct icicle, and you could choose to go up into the Cathedral, or into the Junction of the Secret Shafts.  If you escape, you might have a chance to enter the Switch Inferno.  Hit the right actuator to go upstairs, or plow through the wall and into the Dungeon, where you can grab the 96th Thesis of Martin Luther.
?There, climb up the Pharaoh?s Secret Passage into the Geographer?s Study.  Take the correct book off the bookshelf to open the door to the SHRIIIIIINE of the Silver MOOON-key! Assemble the statue, and you may be headed for the Knights? Barracks.  Place the sword in the correct sheath, and you could advance into the Laser Light Room.  Find the right combination to unleash the power of the laser, and swing on the rope back across the Great Chasm.  Then, pass through the Arctic Antechamber, race down the stairs and back through the Temple Gate.  The choices are yours and yours alone.? Olmec pauses for a second here. "You won 1 ? Pendants in the Temple Games.  Who's going first??
"I am," says Samantha.
"Very well, Samantha," replies Olmec as Kirk hands out the Pendants of Life.  Samantha promptly puts in her mouthpiece. "When Kirk gives the signal, you'll race through the gates into the Temple and make your way towards the 96th Thesis.  Hidden in the Temple are three ventilation shafts that let out in the Junction of the Secret Shafts, as well as Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms.  You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on, but if you're caught without a Pendant, you'll be taken out of the Temple? and it'll be James's turn to enter and try his luck.  Hidden somewhere in the Temple is the other half of your Pendant.  If you can find it and you're carrying the other half, you will get an extra life.  If you can reach the Thesis, all the doors of the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish.  Return through the gates with the 96th Thesis in three minutes, and you will both be handsomely rewarded? and here's how!"
?   First, they?re both going to get a skateboard provided by Vans.
?   If they can grab the Thesis within three minutes, they?re both going to get a $250 Target gift card.
?   If they can bring the 96th Thesis out of the Temple before three minutes is up, they?ll be going to Quebec City!  They?ll be staying for three days at Delta Quebec, with an indoor exercise room, an outdoor heated pool and an underground mall and they?ll be there during the Carnaval de Qu?bec.  Delta Quebec, for a prize package totaling $10,786!

"All right, Quebec City!" Kirk says, excited. "I know they?re gonna love that.  Now, James, what?s your strategy?"
"We?re? uh, gonna stay low, just gonna go across the bottom and get it," James explains, "but if that doesn?t work, we?re gonna try to go up and come back down whenever we can."
"Let's see if that works out," Kirk says. "Let?s get Samantha out in front.  Put your mouthpieces in.  Olmec, will you lower your gate?"
Olmec groans gutturally as he lowers the gate; the blue lights under him are turned off.
"Three minutes on the clock." The clock appears onscreen. "On your mark, get set, GO!"

?There goes Samantha! Up into the Temple!? Kirk shouts his usual starting line as Samantha runs up the stairs and slides down into the Crevasse.  ?She?s taking the low road, got a Pendant and a half? how far can she go?? Samantha makes her way through the ledges and takes the lower crawl tube through to the Great Chasm with 2:45 on the clock.  She immediately heads for the door into the Crystal Cave, hits the actuator to open it and crawls through, only to meet the first TEMPLE GUARD!
?Woah! That Temple Guard scared her, but now she keeps goin?!? remarks Kirk.  Samantha hesitantly hands over her Pendant of Life, but points to the half Pendant on one of the rungs of the ladder in the middle of the room as she begins to go for the stalactites to pull down.  She starts stage-left of the ladder and moves around the back, pulling down all three stalactites before the door into the Junction of the Secret Shafts opens.  With 2:26 left, she moves on, but as she?s passing through the room, out from the doors in the back jumps the second TEMPLE GUARD!
?Just like that, she?s out of the Temple! Go James!? Kirk shouts, sending James into the Temple with 2:22 remaining.  James retraces Samantha?s path, picking up the half Pendant in the Crystal Cave (2:06) and then getting to the Junction of the Secret Shafts with 2:01 to go.  He runs across the room and takes the crawl tube closer to the front of the room to get into the Switch Inferno (1:54). ?He?s just one room away! Can he make it into there?? Without wasting any time, James busts through the rock wall into the Dungeon, and with 1:48 left, grabs the 96TH THESIS!
?He?s got it! All the doors are open!? Kirk announces.  James turns back around, heading through the entire bottom level again.  He makes it to the Crystal Cave with 1:35 on the clock, heads for the crawl tube leaving the Great Chasm with 1:30 remaining, crawls through the ledges of the Crevasse, runs up the stairs and makes it out of the Temple with 1:17 left!
?THEY DID IT! They got it all!? exclaims Kirk as James comes out of the Temple to meet him and Samantha. ?Give me the Paper!? James hands Kirk the 96th Thesis, and Kirk holds it up over his head to show the crowd. ?The red-hot Red Jaguars, they made it through in blazing speed! They get the skateboards, the gift cards? they?re goin? to Quebec City!? Samantha jumps up and down, then hugs James. ?They did a great job, it was amazing! How?d you do that?? He holds the microphone up to the players? mouths.
?The doors just? they just opened, so we made it as fast as we could,? James answers for the team.
?That was a great job.  Great team, amazing effort,? Kirk comments. ?I wish I could stay with them, but we gotta go.  Join us again next time for more adventure and another great Legend of the Hidden Temple! Buh-bye!? Almost every room of the Temple is shown from some perspective as the credits slowly roll.

Rediscovery EP: The 96th Thesis of Martin Luther

Temple Run Summary
Episode 69px]

Name of Artifact: The 96th Thesis of Martin Luther
Season: 2
Layout: 5 (9 overall)
Result: Made it!
Time Remaining: 1:17
Team: Red Jaguars
Pendants Won: 1.5
Location of Artifact: The Dungeon

Fast players + easy layout = new record.  James and Samantha seemed to know how to play the game, or at least they knew they couldn't afford to waste time in the Temple.  Their strategy wasn't the smartest, but it didn't matter much, because in the end, the direct path happened to work anyway.  However, it's notable that the combination of rooms was slightly easier than in "The Blue Royal Gown of Catherine of Braganza," where the path was otherwise identical.  That and a much more acceptable speed for both players resulted in the fastest victory to date.

Trivia and Records:
This is the second of only three episodes where the direct path happens to work.  It's also the fastest victory on record, currently, even beating out all the records set by the original series.
