Rediscovery EP: The Missing Card of Dmitri Mendeleev

Legends: The Rediscovery

Episode 52px]

The camera maneuvers through a thick rainforest to stop in front of an ancient temple.  A giant stone head next to the gate of the temple begins to speak:
"LEGENDS OF THE HIDDEN TEMPLE! With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is NOW!"

On this final word, Kirk appears from behind the Temple Guard door in the Dungeon and runs straight out into the foreground of the stage to greet the crowd. "Thank you! Thank you very much! Nice to see you! Nice to see you, Olmec! Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple.  The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards.  Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple.  Which legend are we gonna hear about today?"

Olmec replies:
"The Legend of the Missing Card of Dmitri Mendeleev."

"Oh, the Missing Card of Dmitri Mend-a-leaf!" Kirk says in response. "Well one of these six teams will have the chance to retrieve the Missing Card.  Will it be:
"Anthony and Kayla of the Red Jaguars?" the camera pans to each team in order?
"Tyler and Samantha of the Blue Barracudas,
"Jeremy and Maria of the Green Monkeys,
"Jason and Ashleigh of the Orange Iguanas,
"Scott and Brooke of the Purple Parrots,
"Or Matt and Emily of the Silver Snakes?"

"They'll have to pass some tough physical and mental tests," Kirk says, "and in the end, only one team will earn the right to enter Olmec's Temple.  But first, they must cross the Moat, and here's how they'll have to do it today:
"In front of each team there's a slippery footpath that stretches all the way across the Moat.  When I say go, one player from each team will get ready to slide down the path on their stomach and try to grab that little rope there on the other side to pull themselves onto the deck.  But if they slide out and they can?t reach the rope, they?ll have to try again."
"Now as soon as his teammate does the same thing and gets onto the deck, it's his job to run over here and hit the gong." He slams down on the Red Jaguars' gong to demonstrate. "The first four teams to hit their gongs will be going on to the Steps of Knowledge.  Are we ready?"
The players all cheer and shout in response.
"Olmec, are you ready?" asks Kirk.
"I thought you?d never ask," Olmec replies.
"Okay," Kirk replies. "On your mark, get set, GO!"

The teams first players rush out and slide belly down across the footpaths.  However, on the first try only the girl on the Silver Snakes makes it far enough to reach the rope and pull herself across.  On the second attempt, no one makes it across, but on the third, the girls on both the Blue Barracudas and Green Monkeys reach the other side.
?The teams are doing good so far,? Kirk comments as the players get set to make their fourth attempt. ?It takes you gotta be able to push out there far enough, and they?re doing great, we already got our first team!? This last part is said as the boy on the Green Monkeys and the girls on the Orange Iguanas and Purple Parrots pull themselves across to the other side.  On the next attempt after that, the boy on the Silver Snakes makes it out far enough to grab the rope, and then he heads over to hit his team?s gong.
?Okay, we got two teams, we just need two more!? Kirk announces. ?Will it be Red Jaguars, Barracudas, Orange Iguanas or Purple Parrots?? Three failed attempts follow, and then, the boys on the Red Jaguars and the Orange Iguanas both make it across, the latter of whom goes to bang his team?s gong.
?We still need one more team!? explains Kirk as the second players from each team get into position for the tenth attempt.  No one makes it this time, but on the eleventh try, the girl on the Red Jaguars reaches the rope.  She pulls herself across onto the deck and runs over to hit the gong.
?Okay, that?s it! We got our four teams!? Kirk announces as he joins the Red Jaguars at their gong. ?The Red Jaguars held in there, it paid off.  They?re going to the Steps of Knowledge, with the Green Monkeys?? the camera then shows each of the other winning teams? ?and the Orange Iguanas? and the Silver Snakes! Blue Barracudas and Purple Parrots gave it great effort.  Here?s what we got for them.?
Dee reads the consolation prize:
"Look at the entertaining fun you?ll have when you strap on Moon Shoes.  Super excitement is yours when you bounce higher than ever! Don?t leave Earth without Moon Shoes, from Big Time Toys!"

Rediscovery EP: The Missing Card of Dmitri Mendeleev
« Reply #1 on: June 18, 2009, 10:27:45 AM »
The four teams are now at the top of the Steps of Knowledge accompanied by Kirk. "The quest continues, and now it's time for Olmec to tell us about the Missing Card of Dmitri Mend-a-leave.  But pay attention, because your knowledge of the Legend can bring you one step closer to the Temple."
Olmec begins to tell the legend:
"One of the most influential scientists was Dmitri Mendeleev.  Born in Russia, he taught at St. Petersburg State University as Professor of Chemistry.  However, he also made the greatest contribution to chemistry: the periodic table of elements.  Dmitri noticed a pattern of similarities between the elements that existed and used that to predict elements that weren?t discovered at the time.  Legend has it he was sitting in his study at home, arranging the cards for the elements when his student Ivan suddenly came in without knocking.
" 'Pardon me, Professor, could I get some help with your class?' he asked.
" 'You startled me!' Dmitri replied. 'I completely lost my place!
"He got down on his hands and knees and tried to gather the cards that fell off his desk.
" 'Vat do you need, boy?'
" 'I could use some khelp in your class after dat test on de phases of matter,' said Ivan.
" 'Da, certainly,' answered Dmitri. 'Meet me khere after class tomorrow and I?ll khelp you out.  Now, if you?ll excuse me?'
"When Ivan left, Dmitri went back and tried to find all the cards he could.  Legend has it one was missing.  It was the card predicting a heavy element that?s been named after him today: mendelevium.  Someone found the card and it eventually made its way to the Temple.  Your goal is to retrieve the Missing Card of Dmitri Mendeleev and bring it back here."

"Thank you Olmec," Kirk says after Olmec finishes telling the legend. "So tell us, where is the Card?"
Olmec replies:
"The Missing Card of Dmitri Mendeleev can be found in the Crystal Cave." The camera zooms in on the Missing Card lying on the icy ledge in the front of the Crystal Cave, then fades back to Kirk.

"Teams," Kirk begins, walking down the steps, "you're standing on the Steps of Knowledge.  In a minute, Olmec will ask you a question.  If you think you know the answer, stomp down on that ancient marking in front of you.  If you're right, you can move down to the next level, but if you're wrong or run out of time, I'm gonna give the other teams a chance to answer.  The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec's Temple.  Olmec, we're ready for your first question."

Olmec begins:
?Did Dmitri Mendeleev specialize in: Geology???
Jeremy hits the marking first: ?Um? Chemistry???
?Correct,? answers Olmec.
?Nice job, Green Monkeys, step down,? says Kirk, and the Green Monkeys move down to the second step. ?Next question.?
Olmec asks:
?Did Dmitri introduce the: Periodic tab???
Emily cuts Olmec off this time: ?Periodic table???
?Correct,? answers Olmec.
?Silver Snakes, step down!? Kirk says.  The Silver Snakes promptly move down to the second level, alongside the Green Monkeys. ?Olmec, next question.?
Olmec now asks:
?Did Dmitri live in???
Matt gongs in: ?Russia.?
?That is correct,? replies Olmec.
?Silver Snakes now just one step away from the Temple Games,? says Kirk as the Silver Snakes move down to the third level, ?but we?re looking for two teams.  Olmec, next question.?
Olmec asks:
?Was the periodic table created to sort the???
Jeremy interrupts Olmec again: ?It was created to sort the elements???
?That is correct,? Olmec says in response.
?Green Monkeys now one step away from the Temple Games,? remarks Kirk as the Green Monkeys hop down to join the Silver Snakes on the penultimate level. ?Red Jaguars, Orange Iguanas, still got plenty of time to score.  Next question, Olmec.?
Olmec then asks:
?Did Dmitri Mendeleev teach Chemistry in: Moscow, Kie???
Kayla stomps in first: ?Um? St. Petersburg???
?Correct,? Olmec replies.
?Orange Iguanas can still get into this,? declares Kirk as the Red Jaguars move down to the second step. ?Next question.?
Olmec continues:
?When Dmitri tried to put together the periodic table, did he first list the elements on???
Emily rings in: ?Cards!?
?That is correct!? yells Olmec, and the Silver Snakes move to the bottommost level and jump up and down for a while.
?That?s our first team going on to the Temple Games!? Kirk announces. ?Who?s gonna be joining the Silver Snakes? Will it be the Red Jaguars, Green Monkeys or Orange Iguanas? Olmec, continue.?
Olmec does so by asking:
?According to our legend, was Dmitri putting the table together in his study when???
Ashleigh gongs in: ?Um? In his study???
?That is not one of our three choices,? says Olmec. ?Was he putting it together in his study when a: Thunderstorm started up, Student barged in or His house caught fi???
Jeremy stomps down and answers: ?A student came in and interrupted him???
?That is correct!? shouts Olmec, and the Green Monkeys jump down a step.
?There, we got our first two teams for the Temple Games!? Kirk announces, slipping in behind the excited qualifying teams. ?They are the Green Monkeys and the Silver Snakes! The rest of you guys, come on down here.? The Red Jaguars and Orange Iguanas move down to meet up with Kirk. ?You guys gave it a great effort too.  We got a nice gift for you and here?s what it is.? Anthony, Kayla, Ashleigh and Jason will each be receiving a backpack provided by Eastpak.
The camera cuts back to Kirk and the two qualifying teams at the bottom of the Steps of Knowledge. ?These two teams will be playing for the right to enter Olmec?s Temple,? says Kirk, ?right after this!? The camera simply zooms out slowly before fading to commercial.

Rediscovery EP: The Missing Card of Dmitri Mendeleev
« Reply #2 on: June 18, 2009, 10:28:55 AM »
Kirk stands between the two teams and in front of the Steps of Knowledge. ?Welcome back to Legends,? he says. ?Now, the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest, so let?s talk to our team players.? He turns to the camera-left side of the screen to interview the short girl on the Silver Snakes, whose dark hair is tied back in a ponytail with a navy blue scrunchie. ?On the Silver Snakes, we have Emily.  How old are you??
?Twelve,? Emily replies.
?Now, I understand you?re on your school?s swim team,? Kirk says, ?but you also like to draw.  Tell me about that.?
?Well,? Emily explains, ?I like to draw animals a lot.  I draw a lot of cats and dogs? sometimes guinea pigs.? She smiles.
?Oh, very nice,? Kirk says, going to talk to the dark-haired boy on the camera-right side of Emily. ?And your partner here is Matt.  How old are you??
?Twelve,? he replies.
?And I understand you?re really into baseball,? Kirk says. ?Tell me about that.?
?Well, I?m on a team,? Matt explains, ?I play every day, have a big card collection and watch it on TV a lot.?
?Favorite team?? Kirk asks.
?Red Sox all the way!? replies Matt.
?All right,? Kirk replies. ?Let?s hear it for the Silver Snakes!? Matt and Emily clap along with the audience, and Kirk goes to talk to the dark-haired girl on the other team. ?But on the Green Monkeys, we have Maria.  How old are you??
?Twelve,? replies Maria.
?And I understand you like to make dolls,? Kirk reads on the index card in front of his face. ?Tell me about that.?
?Well,? Maria begins, ?I?m learning a lot from my mom, she?s teaching me to sew and I?ve got two little sisters that?re twins, so I want to make something for them to play with.?
?Well, sounds nice,? Kirk then goes to interview Maria?s redhead teammate. ?And Jeremy, how old are you??
?Thirteen,? he answers.
?And I understand you got a nickname,? Kirk reads. ?What do they call you??
?It?s ?J-Dog,? ? Jeremy replies.
?How come??
?Well, nothing to do with hip-hop except maybe to make fun of it,? he begins, ?but I?m Year of the Dog, I have five pet dogs and I want to be a vet, so? yeah.?
?Let?s hear it for the Green Dogs? I mean, Monkeys!? Kirk chuckles at his own joke.  Maria and Jeremy applaud with the audience.

?Why don?t you go get ready for the Temple Games, girls go get set up for the first one there, guys go get set up for the second one there,? Kirk says as Maria and Emily walk offscreen in one direction and Matt and Jeremy walk off in another. ?In the Temple Games, teams are competing to win?" he opens his pocket and pulls out a small gold medallion to show to the camera? "Pendants of Life.  The winning team will need those Pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded Temple Guards as they make their way through Olmec?s Temple.  There are three Temple Games, and Olmec, will you tell us about Temple Game #1??

Olmec begins:
?Dmitri Mendeleev used cards to write down information on the different elements.  In this game, you will gather some cards.  Before you stands a huge spider web with several cubbyholes around the outer edges.  Beware, because not every cubbyhole contains a card.  When Kirk gives the signal, fling yourself onto the spider web in front of you and climb up to one of the holes and break it open.  If there?s a card inside, grab it, come back down and place it in your bin.  Otherwise, climb towards another cubbyhole and try again.
?The first player to find the four cards? or the player that?s found the most cards in 60 seconds? wins.?
The camera fades to Kirk. ?Let?s set the clock for 60 seconds,? he says.  A countdown clock then appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen. ?On your mark, get set, GO!?
Maria and Emily fling themselves onto the webs, but Emily proves to be a much worse climber than Maria.  They both go for the second cubbyhole from the left on the top of the web, and Maria finds the first card with 48 seconds to go, bringing down the card for ?Carbon? with :45 on the clock and proceeding back up to go for the top-corner cubbyhole.  Emily, meanwhile, brings down her first card (also ?Carbon?) with :36 remaining and then heads off to her top-left corner.  With 27 seconds to go, Maria brings down the card for ?Hydrogen?; Emily does the same a few seconds later.
?This game takes? Well, you gotta climb,? Kirk rambles.  Both girls went for the second cubbyhole from the right on the top row, but the difference is that Maria doesn?t find a card while Emily does.  Maria opens the cubbyhole with six seconds left, however; she?s inching over to the next one and cracking it open to find ?Nitrogen? just as Emily finds ?Nitrogen,? but neither player can make it down and put the card in the bin before time runs out.  A pattern of ceiling spotlights flash to indicate the Temple Game is over.
?All right!? Kirk comes onscreen to count the scores.  He grabs the bins as Maria and Emily come over, cards still in hand. ?Green Monkeys got?? he pulls the cards out of the bin? ?one, two cards; Silver Snakes got one, two cards! It?s a tie, so they each get the half Pendant of Life!? The audience applauds briefly. ?The next game?s worth a half Pendant too.  Olmec, tell us about it.?

Olmec continues:
?Dmitri Mendeleev?s discoveries might have earned him quite a bit of money, and in this game, you will collect a bit of money that he never received so that it can be brought to its proper heir.  When Kirk gives the signal, jump up, grab a coin off the ceiling, and come back down to place it in your bin.  Then, jump back up and do it again.
?The first player to grab all the coins? or the player that?s further along after 60 seconds? wins.?
The camera fades to Kirk in front of the equipment for the game. ?Set the clock for 60 seconds,? he says.  A clock then appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen, and Kirk goes to the side of the screen, past Matt?s equipment. ?On your mark, get set, GO!?
Both boys jump up and get the first coins off the ceiling on their first try; Jeremy gets to the ceiling quicker due to a higher jump and gets the first of ten in the bin with 56 seconds left; Matt is only a second behind.  The next jump is unsuccessful for both of them, however.  After a little more struggling, Jeremy scores the second time at the :46 mark, Matt still being a second behind.  When Jeremy falls back down early on the next jump, however, Matt ends up a little ahead and actually gets the third coin in the bin with 41 seconds left, two seconds before Jeremy does.
?This game is all about getting up there and fast,? Kirk says, ?but you kinda gotta work with or against the bungee cords.? If one player doesn?t jump high enough, the other cuts ahead; Matt fails to reach the ceiling on the next two attempts, but Jeremy gets his fourth coin in with :35 left.  However, his next jump doesn?t bring him high into the air at all, allowing Matt to get the fourth coin in the bucket with 32 seconds to go.  After that, the players are pretty much a mirror image on the next jump, and both have a much better successful jump rate from that point on, but otherwise, the lead remains Jeremy?s for another fifteen seconds until he starts failing, letting Matt slip ahead.  Matt eventually gets the tenth coin in the bucket with five seconds remaining, ending the game.
?All right, that?s it!? Kirk comes back onscreen, grabbing the bins again.  Spotters work to get Matt and Jeremy out of their harnesses while Kirk starts to count up the scores. ?Green Monkeys got?? he pulls the giant coins out of the buckets as he counts? ?one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight? nine coins.  Silver Snakes got one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine? ten coins! Silver Snakes get the half Pendant of Life!? The audience applauds again. ?So Silver Snakes have a full Pendant, Green Monkeys a half, we go to the third and final game, it?s worth a full Pendant.  Olmec, tell us about it.?

Olmec narrates:
?Like all scientists, Dmitri Mendeleev used the scientific method throughout his experiments.  On the wall above you are the four major stages of the scientific method: Inference, Hypothesis, Data Collection, and Conclusion.  When Kirk gives the signal, load the slingshot and fire a ball.  Your partner must catch the ball and stick it on the first stage.  Once you?ve covered a stage, it means it has been completed, and you can climb up and try to complete the next stage.
?The team that completes all four stages first? or the team that?s furthest along after 60 seconds? wins.?
?This is for the Temple,? Kirk says. ?Let?s set the clock for 60 seconds.? The clock appears onscreen. ?On your mark, get set, GO!?
Jeremy and Matt stay in position at the base of the walls, since they?re already right next to the first step, ?Inference.? Neither Maria nor Emily is a crack shot, but they both give it a good effort.  Both players start off poorly, but Emily manages to get a ball over to Matt with :45 left.  He catches the ball, sticks it on ?Inference? and climbs up to ?Hypothesis,? but Jeremy follows him a few seconds later.  Emily and the Silver Snakes score first there again? Matt catches and sticks a ball on ?Hypothesis? with 23 seconds to go.  The Green Monkeys land a shot with 17 seconds left, and Jeremy climbs up after Matt.
?This game takes some communication,? Kirk mentions, ?but they?re both up at ?Data.? This looks good.? Maria gets lucky with the slingshot, taking only two more tries to get a ball that Jeremy catches and sticks to ?Data collection,? but Emily has more trouble aiming that high accurately.  She eventually gets a ball to Matt with four seconds remaining; the spotlights flash a second after he climbs up to ?Conclusion,? and a spotter signals to the boys to come back down.  Kirk comes onscreen to count the scores.
?All right!? Kirk remarks, gesturing to the boards while spotters unfasten the harnesses Matt and Jeremy are wearing.  Emily and Maria come over to join Kirk and the boys. ?Both teams both got three stages? it?s a tie! They both get the full Pendant, that gives Green Monkeys a Pendant and a half, but Silver Snakes got two Pendants, so they?re going to the Temple!? The players meet each other and high-five. ?Green Monkeys gave it a gallant effort, it was really close.  We got a great gift for them both and here?s what it is.? Maria and Jeremy will each receive a copy of the Kingdom Hearts II PlayStation 2 game.
The camera cuts back to Kirk standing with the Silver Snakes in front of the giant wall. ?We?ll see the tough Silver Snakes try to make it through Olmec?s Temple to retrieve the Missing Card of Dmitri Mend-a-leaf,? he says, ?right after this!? The camera goes over to the Crystal Cave and zooms in on the Missing Card before fading to commercial.

Rediscovery EP: The Missing Card of Dmitri Mendeleev
« Reply #3 on: June 18, 2009, 10:29:55 AM »
Kirk stands in front of the Temple's stairs to the camera-right of Matt and Emily. "Welcome back to Legends," he says to the camera. "Emily and Matt have proven themselves worthy and now have earned the right to enter the Temple.  But first, Olmec?s gonna give them some information to help them retrieve the Missing Card of Dmitri Mend-a-leave."
Olmec begins to give the rundown:
?You could start by climbing through the Crevasse and climbing down into the Mine Shaft.  Throw enough rocks into the bucket to lift the slab, then race into the Crystal Cave, where you can grab the Missing Card of Dmitri Mendeleev.  Pull down the correct icicle, and you could choose to go up into the Dragon?s Lair, or into the Junction of the Secret Shafts.  If you escape, you might have a chance to enter the Switch Inferno.  Hit the right actuator to go upstairs, or plow through the wall and into the Abandoned Cave.
?There, climb up the ladder into the Planetarium, and spin the correct sphere to open the door to the SHRIIINE? of the Silver Monkey.  Assemble the statue, and you may be headed for the Knights? Barracks.  Place the sword in the correct sheath, but be careful? one of the suits of armor could be possessed by the spirit of a Temple Guard! If they grab you, you'll have to give up a Pendant of Life! Next, race up to the Laser Light Room, find the right combination to unleash the power of the laser, and run across the Bridge.  Then, pass through the Room of Temple Gongs, race down the stairs and back through the Temple Gate.  The choices are yours and yours alone.? Olmec pauses for a second here.. "You won 2 Pendants in the Temple Games.  Who's going first??
"I am," says Matt.
"Very well, Matt," replies Olmec as Kirk hands out the Pendants of Life. "When Kirk gives the signal, you'll race through the gates into the Temple and make your way towards the Missing Card.  Hidden inside the Temple are three ventilation shafts that let out in the Junction of the Secret Shafts, as well as Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms.  You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on, but if you're caught without a Pendant, you'll be taken out of the Temple? and then it'll be Emily?s turn to enter and try her luck.  If you reach the Card, all the doors of the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish.  Return through the gates with the Missing Card of Dmitri Mendeleev in three minutes, and you will both be handsomely rewarded? and here's how!"
?   For just getting into the Temple, they?re both going to get a Schwinn Mesa mountain bike.
?   If they can grab the Card within 3 minutes, they?re both going to get Compton?s Interactive Encyclopedia on CD-ROM, provided by Compton?s New Media.
?   And if they can get the Missing Card out of the Temple before time?s up, they?ll both be going to Quebec City! They?ll be staying for three days at Delta Quebec, with an indoor exercise room, an outdoor heated pool and an underground mall and they?ll be there during the Carnaval de Qu?bec.  Delta Quebec, for a prize package totaling $11,036!

"Matt just told me he wants to see the Carnaval!" Kirk says, excited. "Let?s get him going and out in front.  Both of you put your mouthpieces in.  Olmec, lower the gate!"
Olmec hums as the Temple Gate sinks.
"And let's set the clock for three minutes." The clock appears onscreen. "On your mark Matt, get set, GO!"

?There he goes! Up into the Temple!? a voice-over declares as Matt runs up into the Room of Temple Gongs with his Pendant in hand.  ?He?s got two Pendants, how far can that take him? He?s gotta find the Silver Snakes gong!? He starts with the rightmost gong in the front of the room and moves stage-left; the fifth gong he hits lights up silvery-white, opening the doors to both the Crevasse and the Bridge (2:47).  He goes on into the Bridge and across into the Laser Light Room, then sets to work lining up the sections of the metallic laser column.  With 2:22 left, Matt gets the column aligned; the glass bits on each metal section light up and the dome atop the column glows as the laser beam appears, and only the door leading into the Dragon?s Lair opens.
?This is a smart Silver Snakes team? first in the Steps of Knowledge, won all three Temple Games,? claims the voice-over as Matt climbs down the ladder and enters the Dragon?s Lair.  He grabs the horns lying on the railing in the front of the room and puts them in place on the dragon head hanging around the doorway he entered from.  As the fourth horn is put into place (2:07), the black pattern on the walls lights up violet and a roar is heard.  Though Matt first checks the door leading down into the Crystal Cave, which isn?t open, he heads into the Knights? Barracks with 2:02 left.
?He?s on into the Room of the Ancient Warriors!? Kirk notes as the live commentary begins. ?Two minutes! Two-minute warning!? Matt looks around for a second. ?He?s gotta grab the sheath and put it in!? Matt takes the sword on the railing and goes to the middle suit of armor to sheath the sword, but the gauntlets reach out and grab him? the armor?s possessed by a TEMPLE SPIRIT!
?Woah! Temple Spirit!? Kirk remarks as Matt struggles to break free. ?Give ?em the Pendant, Matt, and you can go on!? After some struggling, Matt eventually gets the Pendant of Life to the Temple Guard and gets out of the armor with 1:44 remaining.  The middle sheath happens to be the correct one; the door into the Shrine of the Silver Monkey is open and Matt goes on into the Shrine, then sets to work putting the statue together.
?Next time a Temple Guard gets ?im,? says Kirk as Matt grabs the base and head of the statue and brings them to the front of the room, ?and it?s gonna be turn for Emily to go in.? Matt puts the base in place, then realizes he should have grabbed the middle piece of the statue and puts it on a bit crooked.  He puts in the head, then tries to go on, but since the middle is twisted around a little, the head can?t be jammed down as far as it needs to be to open the doors.  Yet, Matt tries to open the door into the Planetarium (1:24). ?Gotta jam down the head!? Kirk shouts. ?Go back and jam it down!? Matt gives the head another push, but only then does realize the middle is a bit twisted.  He pushes the middle, letting the head fall down all the way and completing the objective with 1:17 remaining.  But when Matt tries to go into the Planetarium, a closed door prevents him from going through? he almost runs smack into it, stopping at the last second.  After taking a look around and seeing the two open doors, he goes into the Abandoned Cave and jumps down the ladder.
?He?s just a few rooms away!? Kirk announces. ?Better hope there?s no more Temple Guards!? Matt busts through the wall into the Switch Inferno and gets started with hitting the actuators.  He hits all four on the stage-left wall, then hits the four on the back wall.  The third switch on the back wall opens the doors into the Junction of the Secret Shafts, and Matt looks over for a second before going on (1:02).  He starts to run across the room, but out comes the second TEMPLE GUARD!
?Woah! Temple Guard! Go Emily!? Kirk shouts out, watching Emily run up the stairs into the Temple with 57 seconds left. ?Matt?s taken out just one room away, she?s gotta make up a great time here!? Emily follows Matt?s path through the rooms in order; she gets a little held up when she tries to go directly from the Laser Light Room to the Knights? Barracks (0:39), but after meeting the closed door she goes back into the Laser Light Room, climbs down into the Dragon?s Lair and heads across.  Eighteen seconds remain as Emily leaves the Shrine of the Silver Monkey for the Abandoned Cave; she climbs down the ladder, goes through the Switch Inferno and enters the Junction of the Secret Shafts with six seconds left.
?She?s one room away! She?s gotta hurry!? Kirk shouts out. ?This is where the Temple Guard took Matt out! Hurry, Emily!? Emily runs across the room and hits the actuator for the Crystal Cave.  She climbs through and enters the room? but we?re out of time!
?OH!? Kirk groans; Matt standing beside him looks equally upset. ?They came so close! She got into the room, but she didn?t get to the Card in time? Matt cleared out a major path, but one room away they got him, but they still get the mountain bikes for playing, and we gotta get outta here.  Join us again next time for more adventure and another great Legends of the Hidden Temple! Buh-bye!? Kirk and Matt can be seen talking? Emily joins them later on? and rooms such as the Crystal Cave, Dragon?s Lair and Laser Light Room can be seen as the credits roll.

Rediscovery EP: The Missing Card of Dmitri Mendeleev

Temple Run Summary
Episode 52px]

Name of Artifact: The Missing Card of Dmitri Mendeleev
Season: 2
Layout: 3 (7 overall)
Result: Failed acquisition
Time Remaining: N/A
Team: Silver Snakes
Pendants Won: 2
Location of Artifact: The Crystal Cave

So close, yet so far.  The Silver Snakes made a great effort to get the Missing Card, but it was a fairly difficult Temple design, what with Matt being taken out one room away from the Card after clearing eight room objectives.  Emily was left with a little less than a minute to make any progress, and although she made it to where Matt left off, time ran out just as she entered the Crystal Cave.  The only decision that could've saved time was avoiding the Abandoned Cave; both players entered the room, but the door leading from the Shrine of the Silver Monkey to the Switch Inferno did open, and that might have saved them enough time to grab the Missing Card.

Trivia and Records:
This is the first time in The Rediscovery's history that a player so much as enters the room of the artifact when the artifact is located in the bottom room of the central shaft.
