Rediscovery EP: The Tattered Battle Flag of General?

Author's Note: This is one of the episodes in my independent project.  If you have any complaints, first thing to do is to go see the episode directory here:
Legends: The Rediscovery

Episode 43px]

The camera maneuvers through a thick rainforest to stop in front of an ancient temple.  A giant stone head next to the gate of the temple begins to speak:
"LEGENDS OF THE HIDDEN TEMPLE! With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is NOW!"

On this final word, Kirk appears from behind the Temple Guard door in the Dungeon and runs straight out into the foreground of the stage to greet the crowd. "Thank you! Thank you very much! Nice to see you! Nice to see you, Olmec! Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple.  The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards.  Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple.  Which legend are we gonna hear about today?"

Olmec replies:
"The Tattered Battle Flag of General Cornwallis."

"Well the legend is set," Kirk says immediately thereafter, "and one of these six teams will have the chance to retrieve the Tattered Battle Flag of the General of Cornwallis.  Will it be:
"Korey and Sabrina of the Red Jaguars?" the camera pans to each team in order?
"Derek and Crystal of the Blue Barracudas,
"Garrett and Jamie of the Green Monkeys,
"Anthony and Elizabeth of the Orange Iguanas,
"Troy and Rachael of the Purple Parrots,
"Or Robert and Destiny of the Silver Snakes?"

"They'll have to pass some tough physical and mental tests," Kirk says, "but in the end, only one team will earn the right to enter Olmec's Temple.  But first, they must cross the Moat, and here's how they'll have to do it today:
"In front of each team there's a rod which stretches across the Moat.  When I say go, one player from each team will climb onto the rod and they'll shimmy across on it til they reach the other side of the Moat.  That'll be his partner's signal to climb on the rod and shimmy across the Moat too."
"As soon as the second player steps onto the deck, it's his job to run over here and hit the gong." He slams down on the Red Jaguars' gong to demonstrate. "The first four teams to hit their gongs will go on to the next round.  Hey teams? are you ready?"
The players all cheer and shout in response.
"Olmec, are you ready?" asks Kirk.
"Ready as I?ll ever be," Olmec replies.
"All right then," Kirk replies. "On your marks, get set, GO!"

The boy on the Blue Barracudas and the girl on the Silver Snakes are just a bit ahead of the other teams? first players and make it across first.  The boy on the Green Monkeys and the girl on the Purple Parrots climb off their rods and step onto the deck about twenty seconds later.
?There, there?s one team!? Kirk shouts as the boy on the Orange Iguanas climbs off the rod and the second player on the Silver Snakes does the same.  The male Red Jaguar steps onto the deck about twenty seconds later, and his partner climbs onto the underside of the rod.  Thirty seconds or so after that, the girl on the Green Monkeys scrambles off her rod and runs over to hit her team?s gong.
?Still need two more teams? and here they are!? Kirk announces a minute later, and not too long after he said that, the camera shows him standing in front of a mistless Moat with the high-fiving members of the Blue Barracudas. ?I knew it, it was gonna be close,? Kirk says, ?but going onto the Steps of Knowledge are the mighty Blue Barracudas?? the camera briefly shows each qualifying team? ?and the Green Monkeys? and the Purple Parrots? and the Silver Snakes! The Red Jaguars and Orange Iguanas gave it a great effort too.  We got a great gift for them and here?s what it is.?
Dee reads the consolation prize:
"Look at the entertaining fun you?ll have when you strap on Moon Shoes.  Super excitement is yours when you bounce higher than ever! Don?t leave Earth without Moon Shoes, from Big Time Toys!"

Rediscovery EP: The Tattered Battle Flag of General?
« Reply #1 on: August 04, 2007, 07:25:11 AM »
The four teams are now at the top of the Steps of Knowledge accompanied by Kirk. "As the quest continues, it's now time for Olmec to tell us about the Tattered Battle Flag of General Cornwallis.  But pay attention, because your knowledge of the Legend can bring you a step closer to Olmec's Temple."
Olmec begins to tell the legend:
"One of the most unrelenting generals in history was General Cornwallis.  As a young boy, he was injured in the eye, but he didn?t let that discourage him from becoming a leader of the British army.  He fought in the Seven Years? War, and again in the Revolutionary War, always carrying into battle a blood-red flag embroidered with the picture of a silver dragon.
"'Nothing can ever make me give in!' the great general proclaimed. 'This flag and its guardian dragon will always stand with me in battle!'
"Not mater what battle he led the British forces into, General Cornwallis always carried the same battle flag.  Even though the British did not recapture America during the Revolutionary War, he kept the same flag, hoping to never let his country down again.  It became torn by bayonets, riddled with holes from gunfire, and when he died in India, someone tore the flag off its pole and it ended up in the Temple.  Your goal is to find the Tattered Battle Flag of General Cornwallis and bring it back here."

"Thank you Olmec," Kirk says after Olmec finishes telling the legend. "So where?s the Battered? Tattered Battle Flag?"
Olmec replies:
"The Tattered Battle Flag can be found in the Dragon?s Lair." The camera zooms in on the Tattered Battle Flag hanging over the door leading up from the Dragon?s Lair, then fades back to Kirk.

"All right," Kirk begins, walking down the steps. "Teams, you're standing on the Steps of Knowledge.  In a minute, Olmec will ask you a question.  If you think you know the answer, I want you to stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you.  If you're right, you're gonna move down to the next level, but if you're wrong or run out of time, I'll give the other teams a chance to answer.  The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec's Temple.  Olmec, we're now ready for your first question."

Olmec begins:
?Was General Cornwallis: British, American, or Indian??
Crystal buzzes in: ?British???
?Correct,? Olmec replies.
?Okay, step down!? Kirk says, and the Blue Barracudas calmly walk down onto the second level. ?Remember, you might wanna stomp down hard on that marking.  Next question.?
Olmec asks:
?Which of these great wars did General Cornwallis fight in: The Civil War, World War I, or???
Crystal stomps down first again: ?Revolution???
?That is correct,? replies Olmec, and the Blue Barracudas move down another step.
?Calmly but quickly they?re moving along,? Kirk comments, ?and they?re only one steps away from the Temple Games.  Next question Olmec.?
Olmec asks:
?Which of these colors was General Cornwallis?s battle flag???
Derek, looking at the Dragon?s Lair, rings in: ?I?m lookin? at it now and it?s red.?
?I?m looking at you now and you?re correct!? Olmec says in response, and the Blue Barracudas move down to the bottom step.
?Whoo! Just like that the Blue Barracudas are going on to the Temple Games,? Kirk comments as Derek and Crystal high-five on the bottom step. ?We?re looking for another team, and is it the Green Monkeys, the Purple Parrots or the Silver Snakes? Olmec, next question.?
Olmec asks:
?Was General Cornwallis?s flag embroidered with the picture of: A black gargoyle, A silver dragon, or A silver monkey??
Troy hits the marking first: ?Silver dragon???
?Correct,? Olmec replies, and the Purple Parrots move down a step.
?It?s anybody?s game right now,? Kirk comments. ?Next question.?
Olmec asks:
?Which of these men was a general of the American forces in the Revolutionary War: John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, or George Wa???
Garrett buzzes in: ?George Washington.?
?Correct,? answers Olmec, and the Green Monkeys move down a step.
?The Silver Snakes can still get on the board, it?s not too late,? Kirk comments. ?Olmec, next question.?
Olmec asks:
?Which of these great documents was written during the Revolutionary War: The Magna Carta???
Destiny gongs in: ?The Declaration of Independence.?
?Correct,? Olmec replies, allowing the Silver Snakes to walk down onto the second level.
?Okay, it?s all tied up on the second step,? Kirk explains to the audience. ?Olmec, next question.?
And given the command, Olmec asks:
?Was the Declaration of Independence written in the year???
Rachael stomps down first: ?1776!?
?That is correct,? Olmec replies, and the Purple Parrots move down another level.
?Purple Parrots are now just one step away from the Temple Games,? Kirk narrates. ?But there?s still time for the Green Monkeys or the Silver Monkeys to catch up.  Next question.?
Olmec asks:
?Which of these was another war that General Cornwallis fought in: The Seven Years? War, The Thirty Years? War, or The Hundred Years? War??
Robert gongs in: ?Thirty Years? War???
?Incorrect,? replies Olmec.
Troy rings in: ?The Seven Years? War.?
?That is correct!? Olmec shouts, and the Purple Parrots move down to the bottom step.
?Okay, we got our two teams!? Kirk announces, walking up onto the middle of the bottom step so that he can stand behind the two qualifying teams. ?And they are the Blue Barracudas and the Purple Parrots! The rest of you guys come down here.? The Green Monkeys and the Silver Snakes move down a step. ?It was a tough match.  You?re not going away empty-handed, we got a great gift for you and here?s what it is.? Garrett, Jaime, Robert and Destiny will each be receiving a copy of Monster House on DVD.
Kirk is standing between the Blue Barracudas and the Purple Parrots on the bottommost level on the Steps of Knowledge. ?These two teams are playing for the right to enter the Temple,? he says, ?and they?re gonna do it right after this!? The camera goes across the stage and zooms in on the stalactites in the Crystal Cave before fading to commercial.

Rediscovery EP: The Tattered Battle Flag of General?
« Reply #2 on: August 04, 2007, 08:00:19 AM »
Kirk is standing in front of the Mine Shaft between the last two teams. ?Welcome back to Legends,? he says. ?Now is the time when the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest? so let?s hear it for Rachael and Troy of the Purple Parrots!? The blond girl and short-haired boy clap along with the audience. ?And Crystal and Derek of the Blue Barracudas!? The camera closes in on the hazel-eyed, straight brown-haired girl and dark-haired boy as the audience applauds for them. ?You guys ready to play?? Kirk asks.
?YEAH!? The players shout their reply.
?Okay then, go get ready for the Temple Games,? Kirk says.  Crystal and Rachael then walk offscreen in one direction, Troy and Derek in another. ?In the Temple Games, teams are competing to win?" he opens a pouch and pulls out a small gold medallion to show to the camera? "these Pendants of Life.  The winning team will need the Pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded Temple Guards as they make their way through the Temple.  There are three Temple Games, and Olmec will tell us about the first one.  Olmec!?

Olmec asks:
?Something that?s important for anybody fighting in a war is the ability to avoid attacks.  In this game, you will try to avoid a few attacks launched by the swinging bags while you collect uniforms for your soldiers.  When Kirk gives the signal, crawl to the first cube, grab the first coat, then crawl back with it and place it in your bin.  Then, go back to get the next coat.  If you?re hit by a sandbag, you?ll have to go back and start again.?
?The first player to collect all four coats? or the player that?s collected the most coats in 60 seconds? wins.?
The camera fades to Kirk. ?This means war,? he says. ?Let?s put 60 seconds on the clock.? The countdown clock then appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen. ?On your mark, get set, GO!?
Troy and Derek both take off at a good pace, and brings the first coats back at almost the exact same time, with Derek only one second ahead of Troy.  On the second time up, however, Troy gets hit by a sandbag on his way to get the second coat, so Derek grabs his second coat and returns with them as Troy gets up to try again.  Troy does get to the third coat, but by this time, Derek is coming back with the fourth and final coat, and when he puts it in the bin the Temple Game ends with just nine seconds left.
?Okay, that?s it!? announces Kirk. ?The Blue Barracudas got all four uniforms before time ended, giving them a half Pendant of Life!? The audience applauds for a moment. ?The Purple Parrots can catch up in the next round, it?s worth a half Pendant.  Olmec, tell us about it.?

Olmec continues:
?One of the reasons that the Americans suffered early in the Revolutionary War was the fact that they were still a British colony.  In this game, you will create your own colony.  When Kirk gives the signal, row out to the island and, without touching the water, mount your flag on the island.  Then, sail back and return to the dock.
?The first player to mount their flag and return with both feet on the dock? or the player that?s furthest along after 30 seconds? wins.?
?Time to claim a colony,? Kirk says, standing in the middle of the dock. ?Put 60? I mean? 30 seconds on the clock.? The clock appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen. ?On your mark, get set, GO!?
Crystal and Rachael slowly row out towards the ?islands? across the studio?s floor.  Crystal mounts the flag with 15 seconds left on the clock, Rachael with 11 seconds to go.  Both girls have plenty of trouble turning the boat around, so neither one gets back onto the dock before time expires.  A pattern of ceiling spotlights flash to indicate that the game is over.
?That?s it!? Kirk shouts, and the girls climb out of their boats and walk up the dock as Kirk declares the winner. ?Well, neither player got back first, but the Blue Barracudas were further along when time ended, so that gives ?em another half Pendant of Life!? The audience applauds for a moment, as Kirk turns to Rachael. ?So the Blue Barracudas have one full Pendant, the Purple Parrots don?t have any yet, but this next game is worth a full Pendant.  It?s the third and final game.  Olmec, tell us about Temple Game #3.?

Olmec narrates:
?General Cornwallis was persistent, but he lost battle after battle to the Americans.  On the wall above you are the names of four Revolutionary War battles: ?Trenton,? ?Saratoga,? ?Kings Mountain,? and ?Yorktown.? Each of these battles was an American victory.  When Kirk gives the signal, load the slingshot and fire a ball, which your partner will catch and stick onto the first battle.  Once you?ve covered a battle, it has been won, and you can climb up and try to win the next battle.
?The first team to win all four battles? or the team that?s further along in 60 seconds? wins.?
?It?s a battle to the finish!? Kirk shouts. ?Purple Parrots need this to tie, so let?s put 60 seconds on the clock?? The countdown clock appears onscreen. ?On your mark, get set, GO!?
Crystal and Rachael launch the balls at their partners, who try to catch them.  Rachael has noticeably better aim than Crystal, so after 30 seconds have elapsed, the Purple Parrots have covered ?Trenton? and ?Saratoga? and are trying to cover ?Kings Mountain,? while the Blue Barracudas are still at ?Saratoga.? Throughout the game, the balls which Crystal shoots fall too far out of Derek?s reach, but Troy manages to stick a ball on ?Kings Mountain? with :21 remaining, as the Blue Barracudas finally cover their second target.  However, Troy manages to place a ball on the final stage, Yorktown, with 14 seconds left.
?That?s it! We have a winner!? Kirk announces, and the boys jump down as Kirk reappears onscreen. ?The Purple Parrots went through the whole war first, they get the full Pendant, so that gives each team one Pendant? we go to the tiebreaker.  Let?s bring in the tiebreaker pedestal!?

The players run over to the tiebreaker pedestals and stand behind their gongs as directed by Kirk. ?Okay, here?s the tiebreaker rules.  In a second, Olmec will ask you a question.  If you think you know the answer, hit the gong in front of you.  You?ll have three seconds to answer and I must accept your first response.  If you?re right, you and your partner will be going inside the Temple, but if you?re wrong or run out of time, I'll give the other teams a chance.  All clear?"
The players nod in response.
"All right, Olmec!" Kirk shouts. "What?s the final question??

Olmec asks:
?Which of these was another battle in the Revolution: The Battle of Bull Run, The Battle of Bunker Hill, or The Battle for the King of the Hill??
The Blue Barracudas hit the gong first and Derek answers: ?Bunker Hill???
?That? is? correct,? Olmec replies, and Derek briefly hugs Crystal as a celebration.
?Looks like Olmec?s made his choice!? Kirk announces. ?The Blue Barracudas are goin? to the Temple!? Kirk then goes to stand by the other team. ?The Purple Parrots gave it a gallant effort too.  Here?s what we?ve got for them.? Troy and Rachael will each be receiving a copy of the Kingdom Hearts II PlayStation 2 game.
Kirk is now standing behind the tiebreaker pedestal between Derek and Crystal. ?Now we?ll see if the Blue Barracudas can make it through Olmec?s Temple and retrieve the Battered Tattle Flag,? he says, ?right after this!? The camera races across the set and zooms in on the Tattered Battle Flag of General Cornwallis in the Dragon?s Lair before fading to commercial.

Rediscovery EP: The Tattered Battle Flag of General?
« Reply #3 on: August 04, 2007, 08:01:07 AM »
Kirk is standing in front Olmec and immediately stage-right of Derek and Crystal. "Welcome back to Legends," he says to the camera. "The Orange? I mean, the Blue Barracudas broke the tie and?ve proven themselves worthy and earned the right to enter Olmec?s Temple.  But first, Olmec?s gonna give them some information to help them retrieve the Battle Flag of General Wallace."
Olmec begins to give the rundown:
?You could start by climbing through the Crevasse and climbing down into the Mine Shaft.  Throw enough rocks into the bucket to lift the slab, then race into the Crystal Cave.  Pull down the correct icicle, and you could choose to go up into the Dragon?s Lair, where you can grab the Tattered Battle Flag, or? go into the Junction of the Secret Shafts.  If you escape, you might have a chance to enter the Switch Inferno.  Hit the right actuator to go upstairs, or plow through the wall and into the Dungeon.
?There, climb up the Pharaoh?s Secret Passage into the Dark Overlook, and correctly place all three torches to open the door? to the Shrine? of the Silver Monkey.  Assemble the statue, and you may be headed for the Knights? Barracks.  Place the sword in the correct sheath, but be careful? one of the suits of armor could be possessed by the spirit of a Temple Guard! If they grab you, you'll have to give up a Pendant of Life! Next, race up into the Laser Light Room, find the right combination to unleash the power of the laser, and run across the Bridge.  Then, pass through the Room of Temple Gongs, race down the stairs and back through the Temple Gate.  The choices are yours and yours alone.? Olmec pauses for a second here. "You won 1 Pendant in the Temple Games.  Who's going first??
"I am," Derek says, raising his hand.
"Very well, Derek," replies Olmec as Kirk hands out the Pendants of Life. "When Kirk gives the signal, you'll race through the gates into the Temple and make your way towards the Tattered Battle Flag.  Hidden inside the Temple are three ventilation shafts that let out in the Junction of the Secret Shafts, as well as Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms.  You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on, but if you're caught without a Pendant, you'll be taken out of the Temple? and then it'll be Crystal's turn to enter and try her luck.  Hidden somewhere in the Temple are the two halves of your Pendant.  If you can find both of them, you will get an extra life.  If you can reach the Tattered Battle Flag, all the doors of the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish.  Return through the gates with the Tattered Battle Flag of General Cornwallis in three minutes, and you will both be handsomely rewarded? and here's how:"
?   For just making it into the Temple, they?re both going to get an XBOX 360 game package, complete with two new games.
?   If they grab the Battle Flag within three minutes, they?re also going to get a Regent sports package.
?   And if they can get the Battle Flag out of the Temple before three minutes is up, they?ll both be going to St. Martin! The Golden Tulip St. Martin beach resort has its own private beach, water polo, and all the amenities of Golden Tulip International.  Golden Tulip International, for a prize package totaling $12,398!

"Sounds great, let's get the Blue Iguanas set and send ?em to St. Martin!" Kirk says, excited. "So, Derek? how?re you gonna get to the Battle Flag?"
"I?m gonna go down," Derek explains, "and I?ll go all the way across the bottom floor to the Dungeon? then? climb up into the Shrine of the Silver Monkey? then? go into the Room of the Ancient Warriors, and go over again and grab the Flag."
"This guy really knows what he?s talking about!" Kirk remarks. "Let's see if it works out.  Put your mouthpieces in.  Let's put three minutes on the clock." The clock then appears onscreen. "Olmec, will you lower your gate."
Olmec moans as he lowers the gate, and the blue lights focused on him are turned off.
"On your mark, get set, GO!"

?There he goes, into the Temple! This guy?s fast!? a voice-over shouts as Derek races through the Temple Gate and slides down into the Crevasse.  He goes to hit the actuators for each crawl tube, but neither door opens, and also, he feels a yanking at his leg? he?s been caught by a TEMPLE GUARD!
?Oh! Temple Guard already!? the voice-over announces as Derek hands the Temple Guard a Pendant of Life and climbs up into the Room of Temple Gongs. ?This team?s already out of Pendants!? Derek immediately goes to the gong furthest-right to the camera and slams down.  The gong happens to light up blue, and the door leading into the Bridge opens. ?Oh! First try, and he?s off to the Troubled Bridge!? the voice-over continues as Derek races across the Bridge, signaling to Crystal before leaving to enter the Laser Light Room. (2:20) He aligns the sections of the metal column rather quickly, and the laser beam appears, allowing him to enter the Knights? Barracks.  Derek appears to know whether or not the camera-right suit of armor houses a Temple Spirit, so, after a second, he takes the sword and places it in the middle sheath.  It doesn?t open the door, but the stage-left sheath does.
?GO DEREK!? Crystal shouts suddenly. ?YOU CAN DO IT!?
?He?s making great time! He?s into the Silver Monkey! Crystal?s cheering ?em on!? the voice-over comments as Derek races into the Shrine of the Silver Monkey. (1:47) He grabs all three pieces of the silver monkey, and puts them into place rather quickly.  A short fourteen seconds after arriving in the room, the statue is perfectly assembled, and all three closed doors open.  Derek leaves the Shrine of the Silver Monkey to enter the Dark Overlook.  He slows down a little in this room, however, possibly forgetting the room?s objective.
?C?MON!!? Crystal screams. ?HURRY DEREK!!?
?He?ll need to place all three torches in the torches!? the voice-over explains.  Derek grabs the first torch, but then tries to put it into another torch holder in the room. ?He has to put it in the torch holder!? He then walks to the front of the room and tries the torch holders one at a time. ?There you go, now he knows!? Derek has to try all three torch holders before the tip of the torch he?s holding lights up.
?C?MON, DEREK!!!? Crystal yells at the top of her lungs as Derek goes to grab the second torch. ?COME ON!!!!? All six arrangements are tested before the door to the Pharaoh?s Secret Passage opens, and Derek slides down into the Dungeon. (0:56) He races across the room into the Switch Inferno, and begins hitting the actuators on the walls.
?Which one?s gonna open the door?? the voice-over comments. ?Something?s gotta open the door!?
?C?MON, DEREK!!!? Crystal hollers again as Derek hits the last actuator on the wall facing the Junction of the Secret Shafts. ?HURRY! C?MON!!? Derek looks around for a second, then moves to the back wall and hits the actuators there. ?DEREK, GO!!!? After hitting all eight actuators on the back wall, he then goes to the stage-left wall, and the very last actuator he hits opens the door.
?Oh, it?s very last one, I guess!? the voice-over comments as the door into the Junction of the Secret Shafts opens.  Derek crawls through the tunnel and runs across the room a bit slower than usual. (0:12) He hits the actuator for the door leading into the Crystal Cave, crawls through and pulls down the first stalactite.  He runs to pull down the one stage-right of the ladder, but as he?s doing so, out jumps a TEMPLE GUARD!
?Oh! Time for Crystal! Take off!? Kirk shouts.  Crystal races up the stairs and to the Temple Gate? but we?re out of time!
?Oh, wait, there?s not enough time! Come back!? says Kirk, and an upset Crystal walks back down the stairs to meet with him. ?It?s too bad there wasn?t more time, Derek cleared out a huge path.  But you still get the XBOX 360s, and we gotta get outta here.  See you again next time for another great Legends of the Hidden Temple! Buh-bye!? Derek reappears onscreen, and the camera shows a first-person walk through the upper floor of the Temple as the credits roll.

Rediscovery EP: The Tattered Battle Flag of General?
« Reply #4 on: August 04, 2007, 08:17:34 AM »
Temple Run Summary
Episode 43px]

Name of Artifact: The Tattered Battle Flag of General Cornwallis
Season: 2
Layout: 2 (6 overall)
Result: Failed acquisition
Time Remaining: N/A
Team: Blue Barracudas
Pendants Won: 1
Location of Artifact: The Dragon's Lair

From the way Derek fully described his strategy in the pre-Temple Run interview, I could tell he was probably an avid Nick GaS watcher and had probably seen one of the mere two "center of the room" wins that the original show had.  In spite of all that, this episode had one of the most disappointing Temple Runs I've ever seen.

For one thing, I've never seen another episode that had Temple Guard placement as difficult as this one.  After Derek met his first Temple Guard in the Crevasse, he was forced to go up and begin by heading across the top floor, throwing his extremely-well-planned strategy out the window.  He avoided a Temple Spirit in the Knights' Barracks, but on his way across the top floor, he forgot about the vertical passage from the Shrine of the Silver Monkey, costing quite a bit of time for the team.

Derek slowed down considerably after the Dark Overlook, perhaps out of breath from having gone through the upper floor so fast.  In the meantime, his partner on the sidelines, Crystal, became much more of an annoying loudmouth, incessantly shouting at him to hurry up.  He made it to the Crystal Cave with little time left, but after he was taken out, his partner could only reach where the Temple Gate was standing before time expired.

Trivia and Records:
Derek broke and put away for good the record for the most room objectives completed by a single player: 10.  He also performed one of the fastest assemblies of the silver monkey, having done so in only twelve seconds, and was one of only two players to ever complete the Dark Overlook's objective.  Crystal holds a record too? the least amount of time any player who entered the Temple spent in the Temple, since she only reached the gate when time expired.  Also, with the exception of the Temple Spirit in the Knights' Barracks being avoidable, this Temple design was exactly the same as the one in "The Helmet of Richard the Lion Heart," earlier in Layout VI.  Finally, this episode had one of the longest Moat crossings in the show's tenure, clocking in at 2:11.
