Rediscovery EP: The Missing Map from the Catalan Atlas

Author's Note: This is one of the episodes in my independent project.  If you have any complaints, first thing to do is to go see the episode directory here:
Legends: The Rediscovery

Episode 24px]

The camera maneuvers through a thick rainforest to stop in front of an ancient temple.  A giant stone head next to the gate of the temple begins to speak:
"LEGENDS OF THE HIDDEN TEMPLE! With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is NOW!"

On this final word, Kirk appears from behind the Temple Guard door in the Dungeon and runs straight out into the foreground of the stage to greet the crowd. "Thank you! Thank you very much! Nice to see you! Nice to see you, Olmec! Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple.  The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards.  Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple.  Which legend are we gonna hear about today?"

Olmec replies:
"The Legend of the Missing Map from the Catalan Atlas."

"Ooh, the Missing Map of the Catalan Atlas!" Kirk says in response. "Well the legend is set, and one of these six teams will have the chance to retrieve the Missing Map of the Catalan Atlas.  Will it be:
"Mark and Danielle of the Red Jaguars?" the camera pans to each team in order?
"David and Kate of the Blue Barracudas,
"Demetrius and Alyssa of the Green Monkeys,
"Jason and Lay-da of the Orange Iguanas,
"Michael and Kristin of the Purple Parrots,
"Or Jon and Rachel of the Silver Snakes?"

"They'll have to pass some tough physical and mental tests," Kirk says, "but in the end, only one team will earn the right to enter Olmec's Temple.  First, they must cross the Moat, and here's how they'll have to do it today:
"In front of each team are three ropes: one that goes straight across the Moat, and two that crisscross in the middle.  When I say go, one player from each team will grab onto the higher rope and walk across the lower rope.  And when the ropes cross, they'll have to switch their feet to the other rope.  When the first player steps onto the deck, it's his partner's turn to cross."
"When the second player steps onto the deck, it's his job to run over here and hit the gong." He slams down on the Red Jaguars' gong to demonstrate. "The first four teams to hit their gongs will be going on to the Steps of Knowledge.  Hey teams? are we ready?"
"YEAH!" The players all cheer and shout in response.
"I said ARE WE READY!" Kirk asks again.
"YEAH!!" The players cheer and yell louder.
"Olmec, are you ready?" asks Kirk.
"You better believe it!" Olmec replies.
"All right then," Kirk replies. "On your marks teams, get set? GO!!!"

The first players from each team step onto the lower ropes and grab the higher ropes, just as Kirk had directed them.  None of them move very quickly, but the girl on the Green Monkeys gets across first, with the boys on the Blue Barracudas and Orange Iguanas right behind.  The other three teams? first players make it across at almost the exact same time.
?It?s heatin? up out there!? Kirk comments. ?They?re climbing their way across, it?s like a six-way tie!  I think it?s gonna come down to the last second, what do you think?? A few seconds later the girl on the Orange Iguanas steps off the lower rope and runs over to hit her team?s gong.  The girl on the Blue Barracudas and the boy on the Green Monkeys follow suit.  After about ten more seconds, the second player on the Purple Parrots makes it on the deck, runs over and bangs the gong several times to make sure she and her partner lock in.
?That?s it!? Kirk shouts as the second players on the Red Jaguars and Silver Snakes step onto the deck. ?We?ve got our four teams right here! Going on the Steps of Knowledge are the Blue Barracudas?? the cameraman moves to show each qualifying team for a few seconds? ?and the Green Monkeys? and the Orange Iguanas? and the Purple Parrots! Red Jaguars and Silver Snakes gave it a great effort too.  They?re not going away empty-handed, we?ve got a great gift for them for playing and here?s what it is.?
Dee reads the consolation prize:
"Look at the entertaining fun you?ll have when you strap on Moon Shoes.  Super excitement is yours when you bounce higher than ever! Don?t leave Earth without Moon Shoes, from Big Time Toys!"

Rediscovery EP: The Missing Map from the Catalan Atlas
« Reply #1 on: April 16, 2007, 04:29:17 PM »
The four teams are now at the top of the Steps of Knowledge accompanied by Kirk. "As the quest continues, it's now time for Olmec to tell us about the Missing Map of the Catalan Atlas.  But pay attention teams, because your knowledge of the Legend can bring you one step closer to Olmec's Temple."
Olmec begins to tell the legend:
"Deep in the city of Zaragoza was the Aljafer?a, the home of the king of Spain.  In the heart of Zaragoza, in the Great Hall of the Aljafer?a, on his marble throne sat the king, John the Hunter.  One day John called a man named Jehuda Cresques to his throne room.
"'I khave an assignment for jou,' said John. 'Make me a map of all de lands you?ve kheard of.  Don?t care khow grande it is, just show me all de places dere are for me to take.'
"'Ay muchacha!' Jehuda replied. "Es a big project, se?or!'
"'Do it or I?ll trow jou in de dungeon.'
"'Uhh? right away, si?'
"Jehuda worked for months and came up with five maps, a cosmic calendar, and a page describing the earth itself.
"'Ah, and it es done!' Jehuda remarked, putting down his quill pen on the windowsill next to the maps which he named the Catalan Atlas.  Suddenly, a gust of wind blew one of the maps out the window, and the map disappeared? until now.  Your quest is to retrieve the Missing Map from the Catalan Atlas and bring it here."

"Thanks a lot Olmec," Kirk says after Olmec finishes telling the legend. "So where is the Missing Map?"
Olmec replies:
"The Missing Map from the Catalan Atlas can be found in the Burial Pit." The camera zooms in on the Missing Map on the railing of the Burial Pit, then fades back to Kirk.

"Teams," Kirk begins, walking down the steps, "you are now standing on the Steps of Knowledge, and in a minute, Olmec will ask you a question.  If you think you know the answer, I want you to stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you.  If you're right, you're gonna move down to the next level, but if you're wrong or run out of time, I'm gonna give the other teams a chance to answer.  The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec's Temple.  Olmec, we're now ready for your first question."

Olmec begins:
?Was the Catalan Atlas made for the king of: Russia, France, or???
Demetrius stomps down first: ?Spain???
?Yes.  That is correct,? replies Olmec.
?Good job, step down,? Kirk tells the Green Monkeys, and Demetrius and his partner Alyssa then move down to the second step. ?Green Monkeys are on the board.  Next question Olmec.?
Olmec asks:
?Was the Catalan Atlas created by: Ponce de Le?n, Jehuda Cresques, or Don Quixote??
Kate rings in: ?Uhh? Don Quixote??
?No, that is incorrect,? Olmec replies.
Jason then buzzes in and has trouble with the pronunciation: ?Crest-quest??
?Yes? Correct,? replies Olmec, and the Orange Iguanas get to move down a step.
?This matching heating up,? Kirk comments. ?Next question.? And given the command, Olmec asks:
?Was the Catalan Atlas originally made of: Five pages???
Kristin buzzes in: ?Seven pages???
?Correct,? Olmec answers.
?Blue Barracudas can still catch up,? Kirk says as the Purple Parrots move down to the second step. ?Olmec, next question.?
Olmec now asks:
?Was the king of Spain: William the Conqueror???
Jason stomps down first: ?John the Hunter???
?That is correct,? Olmec answers, and the Orange Iguanas can move down to the second-to-last step.
?Orange Iguanas now realize they?re only one step away from the Temple Games,? Kirk explains. ?But we?re lookin? for two teams.  Next question.?
Olmec asks:
?Was John the Hunter?s palace in: Madrid, Paris, or???
Laida rings in: ?Zaragoza???
?That is correct!? Olmec shouts, and the Orange Iguanas get to move down to the bottom step.
?All right, we?ve got our first team goin? on to the Temple Games!? Kirk announces. ?But who join the Orange Iguanas: the Purple Parrots, the Green Monkeys or the Blue Barracudas? Next question, Olmec.?
Olmec continues:
?The Catalan Atlas not only had maps.  Which of these did it also???
Michael buzzes in and guesses: ?Uhh? calendar? a calendar???
?That is not the full answer,? Olmec explains. ?Did it also have: A cosmic calendar, A compass???
Alyssa interrupts him: ?A cosmic calendar???
?That is correct,? Olmec answers, and the Green Monkeys move down to the second to last step.
?Green Monkeys are just a move away from the Temple Games,? Kirk comments. ?But the Purple Parrots and Blue Barracudas can still catch up.  Next question.?
Olmec now asks:
?When the Catalan Atlas was complete, was one of the maps: Burned, Torn to pieces, or???
Demetrius rings in: ?Um, it blew out the window???
?That is correct!? Olmec shouts, and the Green Monkeys get to join the Orange Iguanas on the final level.
?Okay! We?ve got our two teams right here!? Kirk narrates. ?The Green Monkeys and the Orange Iguanas, they?ll be going head-to-head in the Temple Games! Blue Barracudas, Purple Parrots, come down here.? The other players move down a step. ?You guys gave it a great effort too.  You?re not going away empty-handed, we?ve got a nice gift for you for playing and here?s what it is.? David, Kate, Michael and Kristin will each be receiving a copy of How to Eat Fried Worms on DVD.
The camera shows Kirk with the Green Monkeys and the Orange Iguanas on the bottommost Step of Knowledge. ?These two teams will be fighting for the right to enter Mr. Olmec?s Temple, and they?re gonna do it right after this!? The camera shows the enthusiastic audience, then runs along the wall of the Temple?s lower floor only to stop in the Dungeon and show the skeletons nailed to the walls before fading to commercial.

Rediscovery EP: The Missing Map from the Catalan Atlas
« Reply #2 on: April 16, 2007, 04:32:43 PM »
Kirk stands between the two teams and in front of the Steps of Knowledge. ?Welcome back to Legends,? he says. ?Now, the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest, but before we get started, I wanna talk to our two tough teams here.? He turns to interview the short black boy on the Green Monkeys. ?On the Green Monkeys, we have Demetrius.  And how old are you??
?Twelve,? Demetrius replies.
?Now I understand you like to play basketball? a lot,? Kirk reads on his index card. ?Tell me about that.?
?Well,? Demetrius explains, ?I play with my friends every day after school.?
?Your size keep you from doing good on the court?? Kirk asks.
?I dunno,? Demetrius says.
?But it?s got you a nickname, right?? Kirk reads.
?Yeah,? he answers, ?Lil? D my friends call me.? The audience applauds as Kirk goes to interview the brown-haired girl on Demetrius?s left.
?And you?re Alyssa,? Kirk says. ?And how old are you??
?Thirteen,? Alyssa answers.
?And you like to hang out at the mall and play soccer,? Kirk reads. ?Tell me about that.?
?Well,? Alyssa begins, her brown eyes shining, ?I?m on my school co-ed team and, um, I?ve been playing? four years.?
?What position are you?? Kirk asks.
?I?m on defense,? Alyssa replies.
?I wonder if you can keep the other team from scoring here,? Kirk comments. ?We?re about to find out.  Let?s hear it for the Green Monkeys!? The audience applauds for a moment as Kirk goes to interview the short, brown-haired boy on the other team. ?And on the Orange Iguanas, we have Jason.  How old are you??
?Twelve,? Jason replies.
?Now you?re on your school swim team and you?re also into skateboarding,? Kirk reads. ?Tell me more.?
?Uhh? I?ve? been boarding for four years now,? Jason slowly replies, ?and my favorite trick is the Rocket Air.?
?All right,? Kirk says, going to interview the dark-haired girl next to Jason. ?And you?re? uh??
?Laida Etxebarri,? the girl replies, her almond eyes sparkling as she says the tx in her name like a tch, ?and I?m thirteen years old.?
?And it says here you were born in Spain,? Kirk reads off the index card. ??Hablas espa?ol??
?What??? Laida says before she laughs for a second. ?No, but I?m learning Spanish.?
Kirk gives her a confused look. ?You lived in Spain but don?t speak Spanish??? he repeats.
?I?m from Euskadi, actually,? she replies. ?They speak Basque there.?
?All right then, if you guys go to the Temple promise you?ll teach me how to close the show in Basque,? Kirk says.
?Yeah,? Laida replies with a short laugh.
?Then let?s hear it for the Orange Iguanas!? Kirk shouts, and the audience begins to cheer loudly.

?Why don?t you guys go get ready for the first Temple Game, girls go get ready for the second,? Kirk says as the players walk off-screen in different directions, ?and I'll tell you guys what's gonna happen here.  Now, in the Temple Games, these teams will be competing to win?" he opens his pocket and pulls out a small gold medallion to show to the camera? "Pendants of Life.  The winning team will need those Pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded Temple Guards as they make their way through Olmec?s Temple.  There are three Temple Games, and Olmec will tell us about Temple Game #1.?

Olmec begins:
?Jehuda Cresques had to make the maps in the Catalan Atlas piece by piece, and here you will do the same.  When Kirk gives the signal, crawl into the first cube, grab the first piece of your map, then crawl back with it and place it in the correct position on your board.  Then, go back to get the next segment of the map.  Along the way you must try to avoid the swinging obstacles.
?The first player to grab all four pieces of the map? or the player that?s grabbed the most pieces of the map in 60 seconds? wins.?
The camera fades to Kirk. ?They used to make maps just like this,? he says. ?Let?s set the clock for 60 seconds.? The clock then appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen. ?Let?s get the sandbags back in position and then start swinging them.? The spotters do just that. ?On your marks, get set, GO!?
Demetrius and Jason crawl out immediately, but Demetrius gets hit by a sandbag on the first two tries.  Jason, on the other hand, manages to grab the first quadrant of his map on his first try and bring it back fairly quickly.  Demetrius is much slower on his third try, but sticks the first segment of his map on the board with over 30 seconds left? just a second or two after Jason reaches his second piece.  But Jason waits a few seconds before beginning to crawl back with it.  After 60 have elapsed, a number of ceiling spotlights flash repeatedly to indicate that time is up.
?All right! Time?s up!? Kirk shouts immediately after, running over by Demetrius and the team boards to count up the scores.  Jason comes over from behind one of the sandbags a second later. ?Real twist-around near the end of the game there, looks like Orange Iguanas got two pieces of the map, but Green Monkeys got three! Green Monkeys win a half Pendant of Life!? The audience applauds for a moment. ?You had some trouble back there getting the third piece,? Kirk says to Jason. ?Tell me what you were thinking.?
?Well,? Jason replies, ?it was tough to pass those sandbags? I? uh? tried to wait for a run through and? took too long.?
?Well don?t worry,? Kirk says, ?you can catch up in the next Temple Game, ?cause it?s worth a half Pendant.  Olmec, tell us about it.?

Olmec continues:
?Not only does the Catalan Atlas have four detailed maps, but also a cosmic calendar.  The calendar predicts where the sun, the moon, and the other planets will be in the sky on a certain day.  In this game, you will help Jehuda Cresques make another calendar.  When Kirk gives the signal, climb on the wheel and adjust your weight to turn it.  When the wheel makes one full rotation, it means you have moved your planet one mile toward Earth.
?The player who?s moved their planet the mostmiles toward miles after 60 seconds wins.?
?It?s gonna get dizzy back there,? Kirk says, gesturing to the girls preparing to climb on the wheels marked with the familiar Legends insignia. ?Let?s set the clock for 60 seconds.? The clock then appears in the corner of the screen. ?On your marks, get set, GO!?
The girls seem to have trouble with this game.  Alyssa tries starting off slowly, but it doesn?t keep her from falling off very early. ?The key to this is in finding the rhythm,? Kirk explains as Laida falls off her wheel.  Both girls fall off again at about the halfway point of the game, and then Laida starts moving faster than Alyssa after getting back on.  Laida falls off one last time only a few moments before the ceiling spotlights flash to put an end to the game.
?All right, c?mon over!? Kirk says, running over to read the spotters? scoreboards as Alyssa and Laida climb off their wheels. ?So Green Monkeys made it six miles to Earth, but Orange Iguanas came back nine! Orange Iguanas win a half Pendant of Life!? The audience applauds again. ?You? uh? had a little trouble keeping up with her,? Kirk says to Alyssa. ?What happened??
?Well? um?? Alyssa replies, ?I guess I was just thinking she?d? go too fast and, um, slip up all the time.?
?I see,? Kirk comments. ?No worries though, you can still win this game ?cause this next game is worth a full Pendant.  Whoever wins this goes to the Temple.  Olmec, tell us about Temple Game? number three.?

Olmec narrates:
?With the Catalan Atlas to help him, John the Hunter would send men to sail to new lands and bring back many rare treasures.  In this game you will help bring some of those treasures back to Spain.  When Kirk gives the signal, grab a gold artifact and run out to meet your partner at the middle of the path.  Then pass the gold treasure to your partner, who will slide back and place it in your team?s treasure box.  Then go back and try it again.
?The team with the most pieces of gold in their treasure box after 60 seconds wins.?
?It?s all tied up half Pendant apiece,? Kirk reminds the audience, ?so this?ll decide who goes to the Temple.  Let?s set the clock for 60 seconds.? The clock then appears on the screen. ?On your mark, get set, GO!?
The players grab onto the raised sides of the tracks and walk against the force of the bungee cords attaching them to the walls behind them.  The cord are only just long enough so that the players can meet in the middle, so this game certainly proves to be harder than it appeared at first glance.  The teams begin to score just a few seconds before the ceiling lights flash to end the game.
?Okay,? Kirk says as he walks into the space between the tracks and peers into the treasure boxes.  As soon as the spotters unfasten the kids, they run over to join him. ?Green Monkeys got one piece of gold, Orange Iguanas got one, two pieces of gold! Orange Iguanas get the full Pendant, that gives them a Pendant and a half, the Green Monkeys had a half Pendant.  The Orange Iguanas are goin? to the Temple!? Jason and Laida high-five each other several times. ?Green Monkeys, it looked like you had trouble connecting at the middle,? he says.
?Yeah,? Alyssa replies.
?But you guys gave it a great effort to,? says Kirk. ?Here?s what we?ve got for you.? Demetrius and Alyssa will each be receiving a $100 U.S. Savings Bond provided by Nestle.
Only Kirk and the Orange Iguanas are present when the camera cuts away from the consolation prize. ?We?ll see if the Orange Iguanas can make it through Olmec?s Temple and retrieve the Missing Map of the Catalan Atlas? right after this!? Kirk can be seen chatting with Laida (presumably about how to close the show in Basque) as the camera zooms out and fades to commercial.

Rediscovery EP: The Missing Map from the Catalan Atlas
« Reply #3 on: April 16, 2007, 04:35:09 PM »
Kirk stands in front of the steps of the Temple with his hands on Jason and Laida's shoulders. "Welcome back to Legends," he says to the camera before turning around to talk to Olmec. "Olmec!" he shouts. " Jason and Laida have proven themselves worthy and earned the right to enter your Temple.  But before they go, can you give them any hints to help them retrieve the Missing Map of the Catalan Atlas?"
Olmec begins to give the rundown:
"You could start by climbing through the Crevasse and climbing down into the Great Chasm.  Crawl through the Chasm, then race into the Forbidden Fountain.  Place the correct bowl to tip the scales, and you could choose to go up? into the Burial Pit, where you can grab the Missing Map from the Catalan Atlas, or? go into the Junction of the Secret Shafts.  If you escape, you might have a chance to enter the Switch Inferno.  Hit the right actuator to go upstairs, or plow through the wall and into the Dungeon.
"Climb up the Pharaoh?s Secret Passage into the Dark Overlook, and correctly place all three torches to open the door to the Shrine of the Silver Monkey.  Assemble the statue, and you may be headed for the Knights? Barracks.  Place the sword in the correct sheath, and you could advance into the Laser Light Room.  Find the right combination to unleash the power of the laser, and swing on the rope back across the Great Chasm.  Then, pass through the Room of Temple Gongs, race down the stairs and back through the Temple Gate.  The choices are yours and yours alone." Olmec pauses for a second here. "You won 1? Pendants in the Temple Games.  Who's going first??
"I am!" Laida shouts eagerly.
"Very well, Laida," replies Olmec as Kirk hands out the Pendants of Life. "Good luck to both of you? because when Kirk gives the signal, you'll race through the gates into the Temple and make your way towards the Missing Map.  Hidden inside the Temple are three ventilation shafts that let out in the Junction of the Secret Shafts, as well as Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms.  You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on, but if you're caught without a Pendant, you'll be taken out of the Temple? and it'll be Jason's turn to enter and try his luck.  Hidden somewhere inside the Temple is the other half of your Pendant.  If you can find it and you're carrying the other half, you will get an extra life.  If you can reach the Missing Map, all the doors of the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish.  Return through the gates with the Missing Map from the Catalan Atlas in three minutes, and you will both be handsomely rewarded? and here's how:"
?   For just making it into the Temple, they?re both going to get a camping gear package from Outdoor Products.
?   If they can reach the Missing Map in 3 minutes, they?re also going to get $500 Toys ?R? Us gift cards.
?   And if they can get the Missing Map out of the Temple before 3 minutes is up, they?ll both be going to Krystal Cancun! Krystal Cancun, the resort for beach lovers, with excursions to Mayan ruins.  It?s rich in history and rich in pleasure.  Krystal Cancun, for a prize package totaling $13,498!

"Laida just told me she wants to go to Cancun," Kirk says. "And maybe you could tell us your strategy too, and how you think you're gonna get to the Missing Map."
"Well," Laida explains, "We?re gonna go up, go across the gap, and I hope the doors?ll unlock? and if it doesn?t, we?ll go right up above and climb down and?"
"Hopefully into the Sarcophagus Pit and you?ll grab the Map," Kirk finishes for Laida.  She nods in response.  "Let's see if that?ll work out, then.  Put your mouthpieces in.  Jason, you might wanna put yours in too, you never know when you?re gonna have to run in.  Let?s lower the gate, Olmec!"
Olmec moans as he lowers the gate.
"And let?s get Laida out in front, ?cause she?s going in first.  And now let?s set the clock? for three minutes." The clock appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen. "On your mark, get set? GO!!"

The Temple Run music begins as Laida disappears behind the Temple Gate.  She runs up the stairs into the Room of Temple Gongs only to meet a?
?TEMPLE GUARD! Right off the bat!? Kirk shouts as Laida is forced to hand over her Pendant. ?All right, one Temple Guard outta the way, she?s gotta find her team?s gong, they put it in there somewhere!? Laida begins hitting gongs starting at the one furthest right on camera and moving camera-left.  The fourth one she hits opens the door, and she passes into the Great Chasm. (2:35) She swings across the gap to try the actuator for the Burial Pit door. ?Nope, that doesn?t open,? Kirk replies. ?What about the Laser Lights? That doesn?t open.  Looks like she?ll have to go down into the Throne? uh, I mean the Fountain!? Of course, as he?s saying this Laida is hitting the door actuator for the Laser Light Room, which does not open.  So she has to jump down into the pit and crawl into the Forbidden Fountain. (2:21) She begins placing the bowls on the scales, and the third one she tries tips the scales in the other direction.
?Can she go up? Can she go north?? Kirk asks as Laida peers up at the door leading into the Burial Pit. ?No, that?s not open!? Laida then enters the Junction of the Secret Shafts, where the first door she hits the actuator for opens.  She runs into the Switch Inferno and completely bypasses the objective to go upward by walking through the stone wall.  As soon as she enters the Dungeon, the door in the back of the room opens to reveal the second TEMPLE GUARD!
?She?s outta there!? Kirk shouts as the Dungeon Temple Guard grabs Laida. ?Go, Jason, GO!? Jason runs up the stairs with 1:40 left and a half Pendant around his wrist.  He passes through the Room of Temple Gongs, swings across the Great Chasm to try the doors leading left, then jumps down and enters the Forbidden Fountain. (1:22) He blazes across the bottom floor until he reaches the Dungeon.
?One minute to go! One minute warning!? Kirk shouts as Jason climbs up the ladder to try the door leading into the Shrine of the Silver Monkey.
?Go Jason! You can do it!? Laida yells as Jason climbs up the Pharaoh?s Secret Passage and enters the Dark Overlook. [0:48] When he first enters the room, he just looks around the room cluelessly.
?He?s gotta grab a torch!? Kirk explains. ?Gotta find the torch holder.? Jason feels around in the dark for a torch on the left wall of the room.  He then moves to the other wall and looks for a hole in the wall in which to place the torch. [0:38] ?Not that torch holder!? Kirk shouts. ?The torch holder in the front of the room!? Jason looks around and shrugs. ?The front of the room,? Kirk repeats, and Jason takes the torch out of the holder and walks closer to the camera. (0:29) ?That?s it, now he knows.? Jason glances around the room one more time, then searches the sides of the pedestals in the front of the room for torch holders. (0:20) ?He?s gotta put it in the torch holder!? Kirk yells.  Jason then places the torch in the hole on top of the pedestal, but removes it and tries the next one to see if that works.  It has to be placed in the camera-right torch holder before the lightbulb in its tip lights up. (0:09!!) ?That door?s not open?? Kirk asks the production staff. ?You gotta fill all three!? Jason goes back to grab another torch, then places it in the center hole, where it lights up. (0:02!!) He then runs back to the left wall and grabs the last torch? but we?re out of time!
?Time?s up,? Kirk says. ?And at that time, they were only a few rooms away.  But they still get to keep the camping gear, and we gotta get outta here.  Join us next time for another Legends of the Hidden Temple! Agur! Buh-bye!? Kirk and Laida wave at the camera as it zooms out.  As the credits roll, another camera follows Jason as he goes through the newly-opened doors to leave the Temple via the high road.

Temple Run Summary
Episode 24px]

Name of Artifact: The Missing Map from the Catalan Atlas
Season: 2
Layout: 1 (5 overall)
Result: Failed acquisition
Time Remaining: N/A
Team: Orange Iguanas
Pendants Won: 1.5
Location of Artifact: The Burial Pit

This wasn't the closest loss by any means.  Laida made decent time going through the Temple, and was taken out from the Dungeon with 1:42 to go.  However, Jason only cleared one additional room in his minute and forty seconds.  The diagonal passage connecting the Dungeon to the Shrine of the Silver Monkey didn't open, so Jason had to climb up into the Dark Overlook.  Once there, he was completely confused about the room's objective.  He got into the room with 48 seconds remaining, but was only grabbing the third torch as time ran out.  If nothing else, at least Kirk's excitement throughout the entire episode softens the loss a little.

Trivia and Records:
This was the first episode of The Rediscovery in which the Green Monkeys and the Orange Iguanas were the two teams in the Temple Games.  Laida, the female Orange Iguana, was from the Basque Country in Spain, and Kirk even closed the show in Basque.  Finally, this might be the first episode of Season 2 to finish production.  Not only did Kirk's kicking off of the Moat sound very much like that in "Roald Amundsen's Final Telegram"? psyched that the show was renewed for another season? but Olmec actually seemed to forget that the Temple Run rule-explaining duties were handed over to him ("Good luck to both of you? because when Kirk gives the signal?").
