Legends of the Hidden Temple
Lost Season 4, Episode 1.
The Warped Mirror of Archimedes

The camera traverses its way through several plants to simulate a thick rainforest. It eventually makes its way to a large stone head. Its eyes light up and it begins to speak.

The Moat:[/b]

Before you lay the structural support system of a collapsed causeway (monkey bars painted to look rusty). While grand caravans were once able to cross atop them, centuries of nonuse and the elements have rendered it fit for only one person at a time. When Kirk gives the signal, the first person will swing across the supports to the other side. Once you reach the other side, you and your partner must grab the supports, and lower it to the ground. Then your partner may cross. If one of you falls, you must go back and begin again. When both partners have crossed, run over and hit the gong. (Kirk hits gong for clarification) The first four teams to hit their gong will go on to the next round.

All right. Teams, are you ready? (wait for response) Olmec, are you ready?

Ohhhhh yeaaaaah.

On your marks. Get set. GO!

The Legend:
As the quest continues, it?s now time for Olmec to tell us about the warped mirror of Archimedes. Bur before we get started, pay attention, because your knowledge of the legend can bring you a step closer to Olmec?s Temple.

One of the greatest mathematicians of all time was Archimedes. Known as the father of geometry, Archimedes discovered properties of shapes and came up with formulas that changed the laws of math forever. He was also the first person to discover the properties of buoyancy, and why things float. Archimedes? knowledge of science was as valuable an asset to the Greek armies as their top generals. During the Second Punic War, the Romans were determined to conquer Archimedes? homeland, the island of Sicily, to use as a strategic fortification against the attacking Carthaginians. Archimedes was contacted by the Greek generals for help.

Archimedes! The people of Greece need your help. The Romans will be attacking by sea and they outnumber us by the thousands. We have no chance of surviving should those boats land on our beaches.

I?ll see what I can do. Perhaps I should build a catapult that launches spiders?

You know, we have a week until they?ll get here. I?ll let you think.

Six days passed, and Archimedes worked nonstop. He went over all his notes, and came up with two ideas, both he was certain would work.

It?s zero hour, Archimedes. Let?s hear your ideas.

My first idea I call the Archimedes claw. It descends from a rope, and can pick up ships. Then we can drop them back down either capsizing them, or breeching the hull so it sinks.

That?s brilliant! Where is this claw?

I haven?t? um? gotten a chance to begin construction yet.

You are testing my patience?

Calm down. You haven?t heard my other plan. I have over 500 mirrors, all warped to take on the shape of a parabola. Give one to each of your men, and tell them to point them at the ships. If my plans are correct, as they usually are, they?ll reflect the sunlight just right and cause the ships to catch fire.

The Greek armies stood on the shores of Sicily, mirrors in hand, and sure enough, the ships caught fire, and the Roman?s retreated. One of the warped mirrors from that battle found its way into the temple. Your quest is to find it and bring it back here.

Thank you, Olmec. Tell us, where is the warped mirror?

The warped mirror can be found in the Dragon?s Lair.

The Steps of Knowledge:

OK. Teams, you are standing on the Steps of Knowledge. In a minute, Olmec will ask you a question. If you think you know the answer, stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you. If you?re right, you?ll move down to the next level. If you?re wrong or run out of time, I?m going to give the other teams a chance to answer. The first two teams to make it to the bottom level (Kirk descends steps for emphasis) will be one step closer to Olmec?s Temple. Olmec, we are now ready for your first question.

Temple Games:

Welcome back to Legends. Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest. But before we get started, lets find out a little about our teams. (Reads individual player profiles). Okay, go get ready for the temple games, I?m going to explain what?s going on. Teams are competing in temple games to win: Pendants of Life. They?re going to need those pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded temple guards as they make their way through the temple. There are three temple games. Olmec, tell us about temple game number one.

Archimedes was the first person to realize why certain things floated, and why certain objects sank. This is known as the Archimedes principle. You are going to help Archimedes? principle out. What you need to do is roll these large boulders up onto the shores of Sicily. To do this, sit with your backs to the boulders, and on Kirk?s signal, push the boulder up from the ocean floor. Of course, the ocean waters are going to complicate things. The first player to beach their boulder or whoever is further along in sixty seconds wins.

All right, you two ready? Let?s put sixty seconds on the clock. On your mark. Get set. Go.

The second temple game is also worth a half pendant, and the other team has a chance to catch up. Olmec, tell us about it.

Archimedes needed an entire army holding mirrors to bring down a single ship, but it would only work if they all aimed at the same spot. Your aim must be just as good if you want to win this temple game. Before you are four ships, and while you aren?t trying to burn them with mirrors, you are going to try and sink them. When Kirk gives the signal, load a ball in the slingshot, and fire at the ships. The first person to sink all four ships or whoever sinks the most ships in sixty seconds wins.

Ok. We?re going to be sinking some Roman boats. Let?s set the clock for sixty seconds. On your marks. Get Set. Go!

All right, it?s still anybody?s game. This next game is worth a full pendant. It?s our third and final game. This game is crucial. Olmec, tell us.

Archimedes was a man of great vision, but often his aspirations overshadowed his abilities. While the Archimedes claw took a long time to build, it was eventually built and worked too. The two of you are using a mockup of the Archimedes claw. The first partner at the controls will toss a ship to their second partner harnessed to the claw. Then the first partner will turn the cranks to pilot them over to the tank. The second partner will then drop the boat, and the first will turn the cranks to bring them back and start the process again. Be aware, only ships that are dropped into the tank will count. Whoever has the most boats dropped in the tank at the end of sixty seconds wins.

This will decide it. The win here is crucial. Let?s set the clock for sixty seconds. On your marks. Get set. Go!

The Temple Run:

Welcome back to legends. The ______ have proven themselves worthy and have earned themselves the right to enter Olmec?s temple. But before we get started, Olmec?s going to give them some information that is going to help them retrieve the warped mirror of Archimedes.

You could start by running up the stairs to The Crypt. Grab the books from the skeletons and pass into The Spider?s Web. Maneuver through the webbing, and you could choose to go up into The King?s Storeroom. Smash the clay pots to find the key that will lead you into The Chamber of the Sacred Markers. Match the symbols on the right with those on the left, and pass into The Armory of the Ninja. Place the swords into the correct sheaths, and open the door to The Shrine of the Silver Monkey. Assemble the statue, and you may be headed toward The Lightning Room. Connect the power cords to create your own lightning to open the door to The Pharaoh?s Secret Passage. Climb down the tunnel to The Quicksand Bog where you could smash through to the Dark Forest, but beware the Temple Spirits that may inhabit the trees. Find the key in the tree, and you?ll enter The Den of Tribal Masks. Align the masks in the center of the room, and you?ll gain entry into The Dragon?s Lair. Open the dragons? mouths to find the tongue, and pull. Then, race through the Spider?s Web, climb through The Ledges, race down the stairs, and back through The Temple Gate. The choices are yours and yours alone. You won ____ pendants in the temple games. Who?s going first? (wait for response) Very well, _____, when Kirk gives the signal, you?ll race through the gate into the temple and make your way towards the warped mirror of Archimedes. Hidden inside the temple are temple guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. You can trade your pendant for an extra life and go on, but if you?re caught without a pendant, you?ll be taken out of the temple and it will be ____?s turn to try his/her luck. If you reach the artifact, all the doors in the temple will instantly unlock, and the temple guards will vanish. Return through the gates with the mirror within three minutes, and you will both be handsomely rewarded. And here?s how: (reads prizes).

OK. Let?s get into position and see if we can win some prizes. Mouthpieces in. Olmec, will you lower your gate please? (Wait for gate to lower). Put three minutes on the clock. On your mark. Get set. Go!

The Warped Mirror of Archimedes

Temple Run Summary:
You know as well as I know that when an artifact is in the center of the temple, the players are going to have to really make a run for it. Unfortunately, after the LOTHT sabbatical, a new generation of kids has to relearn the game?s strategies all over again. Thank goodness that Blake and Dakota were talented and smart enough to pick up the nuances fast. Dakota ran up to the crypt, made her way across the Spider?s Web, and met a temple guard in the King?s Storeroom. This episode, apart from being the first episode in eleven years, is also famous for featuring the only player to ever reach into the pots for the key instead of breaking them. She proceeded across the top level of the temple until she was taken out in the Lightning Room with a minute twenty remaining. Her partner completed the Lightning Ball objective the way it had always been dreamed of being completed in Season 2, and then took the Pharaoh's Secret Passage down to the Bog where he gave up his pendant. With little time left, he blazed through the Dark Forest and was quick in the Den of Masks. The door opened to the Dragon?s Lair, and he got his paws on the mirror, but time expired two seconds later. This may be a new Temple, but it still rings true with the fans the way it always had, and it looks like its going to be as great as it ever was. Unless we get more players like the boy from the Red Jaguars who couldn?t understand why he couldn?t just swim across the moat.

*applause* Great work. Loved the Temple Run summary (its a great format, nicklegends), and all of the use of the same phrases that Olmec/Kirk used in the episodes. Well done.

You've inspired me to do my own now.  :D

Haha, I still love your fan fics though. You make the Legends good & it's really cool! I still have to take Geometry next year. I only know parabolas from Algebra.
