The Heart Room / The Laser Light Room

The temple guards in the Laser Light Room were obvious to the audience, but definitely not the contestants.  Some memorable screams came from that room.

Yeah. Some of those screams came from the temple guards. (The Silk Sash of Mulan)

The Heart Room / Can you remind me what episode this is from?

Here's a "Can you remind me of which episode?" question:

I seem to recall an episode - and only one - where a Temple Guard in the Ledges doesn't hide in the bottom, but instead just kind of chills near the top of the Ledges.  I'm also fairly certain the contestant came down from the Crypt.  (I want to say it's the Dried Apple Half episode, but it's been a while since I've seen it.)
OMG, I've been trying to figure that out for forever.  I knew there was a third season episode with a temple guard hiding at the top of the Ledges, but I just couldn't remember which one it was... I guess now I know. Thanks.:P

Wasn't that also the only season 3 episode where anyone got caught by a temple guard in the Ledges?

The Heart Room / What was the first episode of Legends you saw?

Mine was "The Oracle Bowl of Delphi." I remember because I was watching with my mom (I was probably 9 years old at the time) and we both got confused as to why Kirk would say that "Shane is Gandhi." What the HELL was he talking about?

Pit of Despair is in the lower level.  Wall Climb is the back wall.  It was assumed that players would climb along the back wall, but nobody did it.

I always thought it was vaguely strange that Kirk wondered if Josh (from "Wild Bill Hickok and the Dead Man's Hand") was going to climb across the wall. It seems like it would have been difficult to climb across from the top Cave-Pit crawl tube, though; it would have made much more sense to do it from the Room of Three Gargoyles.

In some layouts Olmec calls the room in the Pit area from S1. L5-9 the Wheel Room. In others(Robinhood and Marian's Ladder, Treasure Map of Jean Laffite)he calls it the Pit of Despair. What is the real name?

I actually don't remember Olmec (on the show, not on this forum ... assuming they're different  ) ever calling it the Wheel Room. My understanding is that the official name, according to Olmec's pre-run footage, was the Pit of Despair, but that we fans refer to it (as did Kirk, more often than not) as the Wheel Room in order to differentiate it from the S1 L1-4 Pit of Despair/Wall Climb.

Really? On Christopher Reynolds site(Lotht 2001's)I recall hearing Olmec say:"You could start by running through the Cave of Sighs and climbing down to the Wheel Room.

I really don't remember that at all.

Hmmmmm.......Was I hearing wrong maybe?

Maybe? I couldn't tell you for sure, but I'm confident (and moreso based on the replies this topic has gotten) that Olmec never called it that.

I could be wrong but I think that the Bifocal Monical of One-eyed Jack has the record for the longest time before the first temple guard shows up.
I'll raise you a "The Broken Trident of Poseidon", "The Enormous Iron Nose Ring of Babe" (although some say there was a Dark Forest spirit that didn't get Joel), and a "The Much-Heralded Helmet of Sir Gawain".*

*I still hold that there was supposed to be a guard in the Chamber of the Sacred Markers, but the door didn't open.  Poor Temple Guard.

Sometimes they never return from the Chamber of the Sacred Markers ...

The Heart Room / Pendant of Life/Temple Guard Question
« on: November 18, 2006, 06:33:40 PM »

Holbein was ridiculous.  They would have had to go through a minimum of ten rooms before reaching the portrait (and the Ledges would have made it eleven).

Holbein was COMPLETELY ridiculous. I'm surprised the team got as far as they did. They were in their ninth room when time expired. Even if Rachel (the frontrunner) had started in the Ledges, she would have been removed from the temple later in the run, and Keith would have had a really tough go at making up for "some big-time time."

Of course, what would have been REALLY mean is if they had used the same temple guard layout from the Water Bottle of Ponce de Leon and not opened the door between the Shrine of the Silver Monkey and the Dark Forest. Can you imagine entering your tenth room in the season 3 temple and THEN being taken out of the temple? I would have been furious.

The Heart Room / Pendant of Life/Temple Guard Question

Alright, I FINALLY found a run where the layout prevented players from avoiding all three temple guards with 1 1/2 pendants. It's the Golden Spider Web of Robert the Bruce. (You can see it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBJ_u1tjflQ courtesy of RenegadePancake.)

The Pit / Live Kirk Fogg Interview

Wow, that's really weird... How could I not have noticed that? There were no visible production defects that would have caused them to retape that scene, and it would also account for the Kirk voice-over.

The only problem is that Kirk said the person's name was "Sarah Paulson" in the interview, but hey, "Sarah" sounds a lot like "Tarrah." Who knows?

I can't even remember a single girl named Sarah that entered the temple off the top of my head. I'm usually pretty good at remembering names too.... Maybe he actually did mean Tarrah?

The only Sarah I can think of is the one from Wild Bill Hickock and the Dead Man's Hand, but I don't think it's her.

And actually, now that I think about it, I wonder how thorough the cleanup job was in the Pit, since later in the run she falls back into the Pit after trying to jump over it. Ugh.

The Pit / Live Kirk Fogg Interview

Well, he did swear on Get the Picture (at least once. One time is debatable).

Anyways, I wonder who the girl who vomited was. Now we're going to have to scan all the episodes to look for a girl who looks sick. I wonder if it was Tara (from The Milk Bucket of Freydis) after she fell into the pit. That would be an interesting task for someone to undertake. It would also be incredibly time-consuming.

I unfortunately missed the interview as well, but thanks for posting all the info!

Funny thing about potential vomiting and The Milk Bucket...

Right after she opens the door to the Laser Light Room, Tarrah turns away from the camera and there's a sudden cut to her going into the crawl tube, her head already in the door. She also looks vaguely ill after finishing the run (but that could just be attributed to her being exhausted and slightly injured from brickity-breaking herself). The voiceover might also be the explanation why Kirk gets her partner's name wrong - he may have been recording it much later, and someone may have told him the kid's name was Brandon. Any thoughts...?

The Heart Room / The Comet Embroidered Battleflag of William the Conqueror

So we've all see the War Fan of the 47 Ronin episode, where Jeremy kicks the door and it sticks shut in the Tomb of the Headless Kings. But, strangely, it seems to have happened in this episode as well.

When Jonathan enters the Tomb of the Headless Kings, you can see him push the door aside, and it bounces off the wall. In the next shot of the door (1:56 remaining), it's shut. It seems the production team had an ongoing problem with this door. (The run is up on YouTube if you want to check it out, courtesy of user aaronptrck: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdMaWatv_UM)
