Title: Rate the Moat Crossing - Smashed Printing Plate/Sforza Day "Net and Vine"
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on April 16, 2014, 03:59:46 PM
So this is my first time actually starting a poll of my own. And I figure I'd start it by rating every moat crossing on each production day of the show. We're going by which filming day had what moat, instead of ranking the moats by episode. So with that being said, let's start with the Season 1, Layout 1 moat featuring "King Tut's Staff." :mrpurple:

I personally give this moat an 8. I don't know if I'm alone on this, but I happen to really like this moat. Sure it might have been easy, but it was very creative for a first ever moat. It was MUCH better than the same tired "use a rope to get across" moat that half of Season 1 had. The only problem with this moat is some contestants did take their sweet time getting across sometimes. But you would see that with any moat. I honestly wish this moat was used often. Very creative and original. ;)

Moat Crossing Ratings:

Season/LayoutAverage
Season 1, Layout 1: King Tut's Staff7.00
Season 1, Layout 2: Aztec Footboard5.75

What do you think? Anyone like this idea for a poll? ;)

I gave the very first moat a 7. This was quite possibly the best moat used in Season 1. It actually felt like a moat you would have in later seasons. Most of the Season 1 moats had a player swim across and tie a rope to a pole so their partners could cross. This moat was different though and more creative. It was a great idea for a moat, especially for the very first production day.

This poll sure is "popular" so far. Only three votes, yet all the other polls have lots of discussion and lots of votes. Just how much time should I give this poll, where I want at least 6 people to vote? =/

I usually give the polls around 24 hours before moving on. I notice some people like to make last second votes before updating the polls. I know we can't force people to participate in these polls, but all it takes is 3 seconds to cast a vote. That is all we ask for. I hope more people vote too because I think this is a good idea for a poll. We almost never talk about the moat crossings around here. ;)

I just love it when the poll results looks like it's giving us the middle finger.

Anyway, I haven't seen all moats. I probably won't vote for all episodes. I have seen King Tut's moat crossing and it was good. I gave it a 7.

Heh, middle finger.

And okay, 24 hours it is. I just hope it gets enough votes, since this is a very interesting topic/poll after all. ;)

I don't think PPF is covering every individual moat, just the ones used on each production day. So we are rating S1L1's moat in general today, which was used in Belshazzar, Galileo, and Dead Man's Hand. I think you are rating Cobra Staff's moat, PP319. Don't worry, I thought that we were rating the Cobra Staff episode only until I saw S1L1 in the original post. :P

It might not be a bad idea to include the production day in the topic title too. Mostly because most of the Season 1 moats felt very similar. Also, we had production days like Enormous Iron Nose Ring and Polynesian Girl that used the same moats. And Imperial Wizard and Ruby Earring also had the same moat.

And I think it's time to end this poll now. S1L1's moat finishes with a 7 average. ;)

Up next is the S1L2 moat: The Aztec Footboard. Just let me get everything all set. :mrblue:

I gave the S1L2 moat a 5. The idea for this moat wasn't too bad, but it seemed like it caused too many problems on the production day it was used. First off, we had the cheating incident in the Lost Hammer moat. Secondly, this moat was pretty long in a couple of episodes like Golden Cricket Cage and Golden Ship. And speaking of the cheating incident, did Kirk ever tell the contestants that they couldn't touch the boards? I don't remember. Either way, this moat had too many things wrong with it.
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - S1L2 Day "Aztec Footboard"
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on April 17, 2014, 03:49:20 PM
I personally gave this moat a 7. Like the King Tut's Staff moat, this was a very clever concept, even for early Season 1 standards. And I liked the whole using a boogie board to get across, all while using a rope above to guide you. It was MUCH easier than say, the S1L7 moat where you have to entirely rely on upper body strength, which most players seem to very obviously lack. However, it was at this point where it was starting to cross the line into the "using an above rope to across" method. You could definitely feel it coming, even with this moat. Too bad this moat wasn't used often, AND that it was taped on a terrible production day. And one of the teams got disqualified to boot. Either way, I really like this moat.
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - S1L2 Day "Aztec Footboard"
Post by: The Red Jaguars on April 18, 2014, 12:31:31 AM
I upped the vote to a 5 even though I gave it a 3. Mostly because it was more creative than most of the moats in Season 1. But still, the problems I mentioned earlier prevented it from getting a good score. Tomorrow's moat is going to be interesting because it had to be one of the most blandest moats on the show.  :?

If it means that much, I'll change my vote to a 6. Maybe giving it a 7 was too generous. =/

EDIT: And I added a chart to the OP. I figure since it will be a long list, I might as well add one. I hope you like it.

Aztec board moat finishes with a 5.75 ever. Time for S1L3's moat.

Alright, table in the OP updated, same with the thread title. And I gave S1L3's moat a 3. I hate this moat. I really do. Seriously, all you have to do is swim with a rope, tie it around a poll, then your partner crosses with assistance from the overhead rope. Big whoop. I think even giving it a 3 is too generous. I can't wait for Season 2's moats.

I gave this moat a 2. One of the lamest and most uninspiring moats on the show. It felt like every moat after this one used the exact same premise, minus Snake Bracelet's production day. I bet it took the producers many nights to come up with this moat. And despite it being pretty simple on paper, it seemed to cause some of the teams on that day trouble. One of the worst moat ideas ever on the show.

Agreed. At least the Season 2 moats had variety for each production day for the most part. And the "shaky log" moat from Stone Head and Empress Theodora's day will be interesting to rank. :o

Up next is S1L4's moat. ;)
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - S1L4 Day "Paddle Across on Raft"
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on April 19, 2014, 04:17:33 PM
I gave S1L4's moat a 4. Another uninspiring moat, but I suppose it was better than all the other "rope" moats. Plus, most of the moats on this filming day were pretty close, where all the teams rang in pretty close by to each other. But, it's a moat that's nothing to write home about.
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - S1L4 Day "Paddle Across on Raft"
Post by: The Red Jaguars on April 20, 2014, 12:43:08 AM
I gave this moat a 4 also. This moat sort of reminds me of S1L2's moat, but without the contestants having to use their footboard to cross. It is better than the "rope overhead" moat used in other episodes, but the concept of just paddling a raft across was still uninspiring and lame. The only reason it didn't get a lower score was because we did see some competitive moats with it, especially Great Seal's.  :mrsilver: Other than that, it was your lame Season 1 moat.

Up next is the S1L5 moat.
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - S1L5 Day "Inflatable Tubes One at a Time"
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on April 20, 2014, 03:21:05 PM
I gave S1L5's moat a 3. Yet another uninspiring Season 1 moat, and it just seemed like this moat gave players more trouble. I mean, some of these players could not throw the tube to their partner. Some of them just couldn't do it. And because of that, it just made the moat more painful to watch.
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - S1L5 Day "Inflatable Tubes One at a Time"
Post by: The Red Jaguars on April 20, 2014, 08:57:26 PM
I gave this moat a 4, only because it wasn't nearly as bad as the S1L8 moat. In S1L5's moat, the player just had to throw the innertube to their partner after they pulled themselves across. Not a very creative concept at all. Plus, it was challenging to throw such a big tube to the other side. As a result, we end up with some moats taking too long. The only reason this moat didn't get a lower score was because of S1L8's moat. That moat used the same idea, but instead the first player had to use the hanging rope to get across. So I figured S1L5's moat should get a slightly higher score.
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - S1L5 Day "Inflatable Tubes One at a Time"

Well so far, you're the only person who's ranked this a 4. Everyone else has ranked it a 3. I would've liked this moat A LOT better if these players knew how to throw a tube once in a while. Though I suppose it's better than S1L8's objective.
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - S1L5 Day "Inflatable Tubes One at a Time"
Post by: The Red Jaguars on April 20, 2014, 10:38:43 PM
I kind of felt that it was asking a lot for a young kid to throw those big tubes across the moat. Some teams didn't seem to have trouble, but a lot of them did. Especially the younger looking players. I like how the producers mixed the S1L3 moat with S1L5 moat for the S1L8 moat.  :o
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - S1L5 Day "Inflatable Tubes One at a Time"
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on April 20, 2014, 11:22:40 PM
All the S1L5 players were young, some of them were just downright tiny. But yeah, those younger kids really didn't have that king of strength to throw a tube across to their partner. Even most of the S1L8 kids were from a younger crowd as well. And I definitely noticed that S1L3 and S1L5's moats were basically a hybrid for S1L8's moat. :P In fact, wasn't the objective for S1L8's moat changed around?

You are indeed correct! In Cobra Staff and Blue Pearl's moat, the first player had to cross by using the overhead rope and their hands to cross. Once they made it across, then they had to throw the inflatable tube to their partners who had to cross by sitting inside the tube. In Mata Hari though and the episode afterwards, the players had to cross with the inflatable tube first and then their partners had to use the overhead rope to cross. Nice catch, I never noticed that before. :o

Yeah, I remembered both King Tut and Blue Pearl's moat having one player reel their partner in while they sit on a tube. ;) The rest of the moats that day had the tube throwing thing again. I also remember S1L7 changing their moat objective around, after the abomination of Silver Saddle Horn's moat. I remember the teams in Gordian Knot had a completely different objective than the other moats that day. But I don't remember at the top of my head. Maybe it was just like the moat that S1L3 had?

Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - S1L6 Day "Paddle Across Raft with Overhead Rope"
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on April 21, 2014, 04:29:16 PM
I gave S1L6's moat a 3. Why must all these Season 1 moats suck so badly? You just paddle across a raft, like S1L4, and then use a bottom rope to get across, like S1L3's moat. Simple as that. It was basically a hybrid of S1L3's moat and S1L4's moat. Nothing special here.
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - S1L6 Day "Paddle Across Raft with Overhead Rope"
Post by: The Red Jaguars on April 21, 2014, 09:56:10 PM
I hope I am not the only one that is confused by which moat was used on which production day in Season 1. Seriously, all of these moats felt the same and the only ones I remember are S1L1 and S1L9 because they were unique. With that said, I gave S1L6's moat a 3 also. There was just nothing remarkable about this moat at all, and the concept of it was stolen from previous moats like mentioned above.
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - S1L6 Day "Paddle Across Raft with Overhead Rope"
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on April 21, 2014, 10:12:16 PM
Yeah, it does get confusing. I had to copy and paste the titles of the moat in the OP from a really old thread here. I believe it was GMW's Endurance topic. If it weren't that for particular list, I wouldn't know which moat was which. I swear, I can't wait until we get into Season 2's moats. At least they changed their objectives around every filming day.
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - S1L6 Day "Paddle Across Raft with Overhead Rope"
Post by: The Red Jaguars on April 21, 2014, 10:32:23 PM
Season 2 will definitely be more interesting. I can definitely remember the moats more clearly in that season. Although it felt like they kind of reused the Babylonian wheels idea a little too much. At least the changed the objective of it a little bit. They never even tried with most of the Season 1 moats.

Isn't S1L7 moat the same as S1L3? That production day had the longest record moat ever too in Silver Saddle Horn.
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - S1L6 Day "Paddle Across Raft with Overhead Rope"
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on April 21, 2014, 10:53:56 PM
I believe they are one and the same, yes. Only the players in all the S1L7 moats (sans Gordian Knot) had to rely on upper body strength to get across the moat. Then their partner had to throw a rope to the person already across. The S1L3 moat was a player swimming across the moat with a rope, then tie it to the poll so their partner could cross. But it is the same concept really. And some of these players did not have the upper body strength, at all.
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - S1L6 Day "Paddle Across Raft with Overhead Rope"

And with a solid 3 average, time to end S1L6's moat.

Up next is S1L7's moat. ;)
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - S1L7 Day "Hand-over-Hand on Overhead Rope"
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on April 22, 2014, 04:12:53 PM
I gave S1L7's moat a 2. Having to climb across a moat via the overhead rope, while the other player throws the lower rope to them, is expecting way too much for these kids. Some of these kids just didn't have the upper body strength to climb across the moat hand over hand on the overhead rope. I mean, the kids in the Silver Saddle Horn's moat struggled so badly, they had to change the moat around for Gordian Knot's moat. And even that watered down objective didn't impress me. This might be the worst Season 1 moat ever.
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - S1L7 Day "Hand-over-Hand on Overhead Rope"
Post by: The Red Jaguars on April 22, 2014, 08:59:53 PM
I gave the S1L7 moat a lowly 1. We are seven production days into the show, and the producers are still rehashing the same moats? No wonder no body thinks highly off Season 1 because most of these episodes used the same tired ideas. If they really used more variety in Season 1, then it would've been more likable. The objective itself was awful and some of the teams struggled bad in the moat. Just watch half of the teams in Golden Jaguar or Shaka Zulu. And then we had Silver Saddle Horn's moat which was the longest recorded moat ever! No wonder they changed it in Gordian Knot. Bland idea, awful execution, and the fact they had to dumb down on the objective makes this a really bad moat. This is probably my least favorite moat on the show. :?

Up next is the S1L8 moat.
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - S1L8 Day "Overhead Rope with Inflatable Tubes"
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on April 23, 2014, 04:01:06 PM
I gave S1L8's moat a 4. The moats here were starting to get a little better, but it's still the same climbing on the "overhead rope" type objective. Like the previous moat, this also had to have the objective changed. In episodes like King Tut and Blue Pearl, the first player had to climb on the overhead rope, throw a tube to their partner, and reel them across the moat. I guess the producers thought it was too easy, so they went back to the S1L5 objective after that. And still kept the climb on the overhead rope objective. I think I got that right. I don't know, I don't like this moat either.
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - S1L8 Day "Overhead Rope with Inflatable Tubes"
Post by: The Red Jaguars on April 23, 2014, 05:01:11 PM
I gave this moat a 3. This moat was like a mixture of the most challenging aspects of the past Season 1 moats. Basically. the rubber tube tossing and using the overhead rope to cross were the two most challenging things with these moat crossings. Luckily, the producers saw how tough throwing the rubber tube was in Cobra Staff and Blue Pearl and changed around the objective. But still, we saw a lot of long moats due to it being too challenging. It wasn't as bad as the previous moat, but they still had to change the moat objective around. Luckily, tomorrow's moat is something totally different. ;)

Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - S1L9 Day "Scramble Across a Horizontal Ring Bridge"

I gave S1L9's moat an 8. Finally a halfway decent moat since S1L2's "Aztec Footboard." For once it provided a challenge, and it wasn't just climbing across the moat via a rope. Not even Ron the cheater ruined this moat for me. Easily the best Season 1 moat ever.

And if you don't agree that this is a great moat, I'll be thoroughly disappointed. ;)

Finally, a moat crossing that was both unique and enjoyable to watch. Oh yeah, no ropes either.  S1L9 brought many good things to the show including interesting rooms, different temple games, and a whole new moat crossing. Too bad the earlier layouts didn't do that. This was actually a moat crossing I could see being used in the later seasons. Unfortunately, I had to deduct a point due to Ron from Anne Bonny cheating and getting away with it. But Ron aside, I enjoy every episode this moat crossing was used. Hell, Lawrence of Arabia featured one of the best moat crossings of Season 1 thanks to this one. I will give it a 7 overall.

Yeah, this may be the highest ranked moat of Season 1. If not, then the "King Tut's Staff" moat will take that title. ;)

And with a 7.00 average, it's time to end S1L9's moat. So it ties with S1L1's moat for highest score. I was close.

Up next is the first day of Season 2, with the criss crossing ropes. ;)
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Silver Horseshoe Day "Criss Crossing Ropes"

I gave the first ever Season 2 moat a 6. Yes we're using ropes again, but at least it was for a different objective. I personally liked the criss crossing ropes, where you had to be careful with how you crossed. The only reason I don't rank this moat higher is because it's still a rather uninspiring moat idea, even for early Season 2 standards. Thankfully, the moats get MUCH more creative from here.
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Silver Horseshoe Day "Criss Crossing Ropes"
Post by: The Red Jaguars on April 26, 2014, 12:43:52 AM
I gave this moat a 5 because it was not very memorable and reminds me too much of the Season 1 moats. At least the objective for this moat crossing was different, and it didn't involve something challenging by crossing hand-over-hand. But yeah, this moat was pretty uninspiring for Season 2 standards. You can tell the producers were still stuck in Season 1 mode for this production day. A pretty bland idea + nothing memorable about it = average score.
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Silver Horseshoe Day "Criss Crossing Ropes"
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on April 26, 2014, 03:05:46 AM
Yeah, early Season 2 was pretty sloppily produced, and still using the "rope" ideas. Plus, some of the players sucked getting across that moat too. Remember how much trouble Paula had crossing that moat? I mean, Matt had to REALLY haul ass just to get the last place spot. Tomorrow's moat is much better. That might even rank high too.

I need to stop triple posting. And S2L1's moat finishes with a 5.8 average.

Up next is Harriet Tubman/Bone Necklace's moat, the building of bridges. ;)
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Walking Stick Day "Build a Bridge"
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on April 26, 2014, 04:11:43 PM
I gave the "Build a Bridge" moat a 7. It was a MUCH better challenge than crossing ropes, and it provided a challenge where you couldn't go too fast, nor too slow. I would've given it a higher score, but I kind of felt like the moat dragged on too much, and it was a little boring to watch. From here on out, the moats do start to get a little better and more creative. So there's that.
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Walking Stick Day "Build a Bridge"

I gave this one a 6. It was a unique concept, but it was too slow paced for my liking.
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Walking Stick Day "Build a Bridge"
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on April 26, 2014, 04:16:29 PM
Yeah, that's the problem I had with this moat. Went by too slow, and most of the moats took a while to finish because of it.
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Walking Stick Day "Build a Bridge"
Post by: The Red Jaguars on April 27, 2014, 12:40:35 AM
I gave this moat a 6 also, for the same reasons as PP319. I do like how this moat emphasized team work, but it was too slow paced and not very memorable. I don't remember anything about the moats from that day either. At least it is better than the moat that we are about to experience tomorrow.  :afro:

Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Mush Pot Hat Day "Shaky Log"
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on April 27, 2014, 04:40:21 PM
I gave this moat a 1. Why? Because I absolutely HATE this moat. I hate it so much. It's easily the worst moat in the entire series. You thought Silver Saddle Horn's moat was a shit show? Almost EVERY SINGLE moat on this day (sans Mush Pot Hat), had moats that took forever with the mist disappearing and downright terrible editing. I'm sorry, but holding a shaky log for anyone is expecting WAY too much out of these players. Some of them just couldn't do it, and can you blame them? If you're not at all convinced that this was the absolute worst moat ever, re watch Cracked Crown's moat, and just look at how terribly things went there. I can't believe the production crew or whoever approved of such a moat. Totally ridiculous.

And ask yourself, would YOU ever pass a moat like this? Would YOU ever make it across? I'm guessing no.
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Mush Pot Hat Day "Shaky Log"

Another 1 vote. Can you imagine if all the loser teams like the Golden Cricket Cage kids and Sultan Suleiman kids had to tackle this moat? Everyone would be there for days. It was that hard.
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Mush Pot Hat Day "Shaky Log"
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on April 27, 2014, 07:03:31 PM
They wouldn't even qualify for the show for that to happen. Not John and Tia at least. I pity the audience who had to sit through that.
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Mush Pot Hat Day "Shaky Log"
Post by: The Red Jaguars on April 27, 2014, 07:22:53 PM
Add another 1 to this moat also. This is by far the worst moat ever on the show. Most of the episodes that used it had moats that dragged on too long. Most of the time it was because it took forever to get the last team across. Just watch Empress Theodora's moat for how long it takes to get the last team across. Then we had the moats with the really bad editing too because it took so long. And one moat from this day literally took 45 minutes to complete. And that would've been Cracked Crown or Stone Head's moat? You can't blame the kids for having so much trouble because the objective was very flawed. Some teams like Mush Pot Hat and Jim and Kristen had little trouble. But everyone else had trouble keeping their boards steady and their partner keeping their balance. Overall, this was a very painful moat to watch and one of the worsts ever on the show. It will receive the same score as Silver Saddle Horn's moat.

I always thought Cracked Crown had the 45 minute moat. I don't know why people always say Stone Head, poor editing in the intro or not.

I wish that was an option.

I'm surprised it's not. However, I'm more surprised at the fact that someone actually gave this moat a score higher than 1. Who in their right mind would give the worst moat ever anything higher than the lowest score? Good luck justifying that, whoever did it. :?

And guess what, I was right. The shaky log moat finishes with a measly 1.2 average. Congratulations guys, this ranked WORSE than a Season 1. Oh what a big shocker! Like we didn't see that coming.

Up next is hang upside down moat. ;)
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Atocha Day "Shimmy Across Poll Upside Down"
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on April 28, 2014, 03:58:09 PM
I gave this moat a 6. It was MUCH better than the previous days moat, and I did like the concept of hanging upside down and climbing on the poll to get across. I would've ranked this higher if some of the moats on this day didn't take long. Atocha's moat was terrible, where the mist completely ran out due to the players complete inability to stay on the poll. Applewood Amulet's moat was pretty long too, Blue Barracudas getting DQ'd or not. Electrified Key and Lucky Pillow's moat was of average length, but even Lucky Pillow's moat took awhile too. What a great filming day using a good moat challenge. Just wish some of those moats weren't so long though.
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Atocha Day "Shimmy Across Poll Upside Down"
Post by: The Red Jaguars on April 28, 2014, 04:49:48 PM
I gave this moat a 6. It kind of reminded me of the Season 1 moats where the players had to use the overhead rope to shimmy across, but this on was a little more challenging and unique. It still gave some players trouble though do to relying on both upper and lower body strength. Especially the Atocha moat, which was very long. The other moats were no breeze either that day. At least the concept was fresh and this is a moat I would like to compete in.  :mrorange:
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Atocha Day "Shimmy Across Poll Upside Down"
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on April 28, 2014, 05:53:52 PM
Yeah, I would love to try that moat too. :mrblue: It was a pretty fun challenge, and it did look kind of hard to do. Since I can assume the poll is slippery, and hard for some contestants to keep a grip on. Maybe that's why some of those moats took a long time?
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Atocha Day "Shimmy Across Poll Upside Down"

Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Sacred Ring Day "Ancient Babylonian Wheels (Team)"
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on April 29, 2014, 04:10:48 PM
I gave this moat a 6. It provided a good challenge for the teams, and I did like the concept of crossing Babylonian wheels. And it was especially challenging in this version in the moat where BOTH teams had to cross it together. But I only gave it a 6 because I wasn't exactly "sold" on the idea. Maybe it just didn't interest me as much as the "hanging inner tube" moat did on Leopard Skin Cloak's filming day. Plus, some of the moats here took a while too. Like Cosa Rara's moat, where it came down to Red, Orange, and Purple, and nobody was getting across. Good concept, but it's far from my favorite moat. And the fact that the Babylonian Wheels were used again the next day, loses points with me too.
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Sacred Ring Day "Ancient Babylonian Wheels (Team)"
Post by: The Red Jaguars on April 29, 2014, 04:17:49 PM
I think you skipped the "Rope swinging" moat used in the Enormous Iron Nose Ring and Ivory Elephant moat? Unless you are going to feature that one when we get to the Polynesian Girl filming day?

And I gave this moat a 7. I loved the Babylonian Wheel moats in Season 2. But yeah, this one was the weakest of all the times this moat was used. I do like the teamwork aspect of this moat though where both players had to cross. It was a nice way to get teams to start off and work together. However, it looked too challenging like you mentioned. I definitely remember the Cosa Rara moat being long while using this moat. Lost Lion Tail's moat was pretty long too. It was a good idea, but the later versions of this maot was better. ;)
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Sacred Ring Day "Ancient Babylonian Wheels (Team)"
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on April 29, 2014, 04:22:58 PM
I didn't even think about Enormous Iron Nose Ring's moat. But yeah, I'll probably feature it on Polynesian Girl's filming day, since it WAS the same idea of swinging across a rope. Stupid contagious Fogg Ups. XD

And I also remember Lost Lion Tail's moat being long too. But Cosa Rara's was even worse, since the mist was actually starting to disappear by the end of the round. I also liked the "crossing the same moat single file" better. The teams seemed to cross a lot faster there. ;)
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Sacred Ring Day "Ancient Babylonian Wheels (Team)"

Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Efoua Day "Ancient Babylonian Wheels (Single File)"
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on April 30, 2014, 03:53:34 PM
I gave this moat a 7. I liked the "players crossing individually" idea MUCH better than both players crossing at the same time. It made the moat go by much faster, and I don't remember any teams struggling or taking too long to cross. I really don't have any complaints about this moat at all. Even if it was basically recycled from the day before. Just a different concept of course.
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Efoua Day "Ancient Babylonian Wheels (Single File)"
Post by: The Red Jaguars on April 30, 2014, 09:46:35 PM
This moat also gets a 7 from me. I enjoyed this version of the moat compared to the last one, but I did not gave it a higher score because it reused the same objective. The only difference is that the players crossed individually. Kind of lame, but at least most of the moats were not long like the previous day. But nothing stands out either. I liked the one where the players had to crawl through the tires, which was used in Silk Sash's moat I believe?

Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Silk Sash Day "Hanging Inner Tubes"
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on May 01, 2014, 04:04:52 PM
I gave this moat an 8. This is my favorite moat of Season 2. I like the idea of players crawling through hanging inner tubes, and it looked challenging to do. The only moat on this day that was bad, was Silk Sash's moat, where Jessie took her sweet time getting across. Can you imagine if Gareth or Kristen from Lucky Pig tried this moat? They'd probably get stuck in the tubes.

If this moat doesn't impress you, I don't know what will. ;)
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Silk Sash Day "Hanging Inner Tubes"
Post by: The Red Jaguars on May 02, 2014, 12:36:30 AM
Yeah, I gave this moat an 8 for the same reason. This idea was probably the most logical usage of the hanging tires anyways. This is yet another moat that would've been fun to compete in. And most of the episodes that used this moat were pretty good. Except for Silk Sash, where Jessie took too long to cross. And I don't want to imagine Kristen or Garrett in the tire swings. Especially Kristen, she would get stuck in the first tire.  :afro:

I gave this moat a 7. It was an interesting concept, but it seemed like the tubes were pointless because most contestants did without them anyways. And just like with the Babylonian Wheels moat, I wasn't entirely too sold on the idea. Neat moat, but other moats were better.
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Golden Pepperoni Day "Stacked Tubes"
Post by: The Red Jaguars on May 03, 2014, 12:35:45 AM
I gave this moat a 9. It was my personal favorite moat from Season 2. I liked how the contestants could cross the moat without the stacked tubes. In most other moats, the player probably would've been required to keep their stacked tubes to cross. But in this moat, it was only optional. Even if the tubes were kind of useless, I liked how unique and flexible the objective was. Plus, I recall a Freydis' and Henry Morgan's moat being pretty good despite how tricky this moat could've been.

Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on May 03, 2014, 04:40:50 PM
I gave this moat a 5. Way too easy for a moat, and it seemed like most players still struggled to get across. Plus, it was used on two different production days, going back to recycling moat ideas. I guess no good can come with a moat that involves a rope of any kind.
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Nose Ring/Nostradamus Day "Swing on a Vine"
Post by: The Red Jaguars on May 04, 2014, 12:42:08 AM
I gave this moat a 6. The idea of it was too simple, but at least it made some of the moats interesting. Nostradamus and Priceless Portrait's moat comes to mind. Although there is really no reason for them to re-use it though. Plus, this felt like a Season 1 moat too. I don't really have any ill feelings towards it, nor do I think highly of it either. It was just slightly above average at best.

Is the moat tomorrow the one with the swinging polls? If so, that is probably the best one of Season 3. Either that one, or the one used on Thornwood Gavel's day. ;) It will be interesting to see how the Gwalior and Belle Boyd moat ranks.

Yeah, Sir Gawain's filming day is the one with the swinging polls. Which is honestly, my favorite moat ever in the whole series. ;) Thornwood Gavel's moat is pretty neat too, though I don't think I'd be coordinated enough to make it past that moat. I don't think highly of Gwalior or Belle Boyd's moat, so that might rank pretty low.

I gave this moat a 9. This would have to be my favorite moat on the show. It looked cool and fun to do, and it put a lot of emphasis on teamwork. Plus, all the moats on this filming day were all very close. Where it seemed like any team could've advanced to the next round. Instead of most moat rounds where it was obvious who the four teams would be. It was a very creative idea for a moat. ;)

I am giving Season 3's very first moat a 9 also.  :mrorange: Great idea for a moat, and it probably was the best team oriented moat used on the show. All of the episodes that used this moat (including the dreaded Bifocal Monocle) were pretty decent. I also like the creatve idea used for this moat too. A great way to start off Season 3.  ;)  :mrorange:

Yeah, I almost gave this moat a 10, but I figured a 9 would be more fitting. I especially liked how on all four episodes that featured that moat, almost all the four winning teams rang in at the same time. Sir Gawain was a perfect example of that. :mrorange: Even the moat rejects weren't too far off. It's definitely a moat I would've loved to try out myself. ;)

Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Chandragupta Day "Balance on Boogie Board"
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on May 05, 2014, 04:13:53 PM
I gave this moat a 7. Like the swinging steps moat, it was a very unique and creative idea. And the "balancing act" was executed MUCH better than the "shaky log" moat back in Season 2. At the same time though, I felt like some of the moat rules were overly nitpicky. Like the "don't touch your partner" rule, where kids were sent back for touching your partner by accident. Plus, it did look hard to do. It seemed like all the teams on every episode on that day (sans Chandragupta) had a tough time keeping their balance. I probably wouldn't make it past this moat if I were to try it out. Other than that, it was a pretty good moat. ;)
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Chandragupta Day "Balance on Boogie Board"

I gave this moat a 7 also. It was definitely one of the most unique moats on the show, but I also felt the rules were very picky. They should've gotten rid of the rule where could not touch their partner. It felt like they were asking way too much for the player to not touch their partner. Take the Thornwood Gavel moat for example. The Purple Parrots were very fast in getting across, but they were sent back because the partner pushing the raft touch their partner. Other than that though, this was a really good idea for a moat. It would've ranked higher if a couple of moats that day weren't long and if the rules weren't so picky. ;)
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Chandragupta Day "Balance on Boogie Board"
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on May 05, 2014, 09:58:22 PM
Yeah, I thought that was asking too much for the kids to NOT touch their partner. Plus, it seemed like the kids who tried that moat were all dropping like flies and simply just didn't have the balance. Though the Chandragupta moat was just perfect. ;) Nobody fell into the moat once, not even the moat crossing rejects. That's amazing. :o

Up next is the "side scrolling net" moat. ;)

I gave this moat a 7. I don't know if I'm alone on this, but I thought this was a pretty neat moat. I liked the concept of the players crossing the same net, albeit on opposite sides. And none of the teams on this day seemed to struggle much either, and all the moats were pretty quick. I know this moat was used on a terrible production day, but I still liked this moat and its concept. ;)

I gave Snow Cone's day moat crossing a 7. It was the only good thing that really came out of this production day. It was a cool idea and it had the perfect difficulty too. Most of the teams were pretty close in hitting their gongs too. The concept is much better than the net and vine moat used tomorrow on Imperial Wizard's day. It would've ranked higher, but nothing really sticks out about it.

Wait, the net and vine moat is worse than the side scrolling net? The latter moat was one of the best moats on the show. How can you justify THIS moat as better? I liked the other moat better. =/

Well, some of the moats had it were a little more problematic than this moat. See Empress Eugenie's and Smashed Printing Plate's moat.
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Snow Cone Day "Side Scrolling Net"

Even then, it was a more creative idea than a side scrolling net. Question is: Which moat got used again on the last production day?
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Snow Cone Day "Side Scrolling Net"

The moat used for Empress Eugenie and Benzibab's day was the net and vine moat. The same one used for Imperial Wizard and Useless Map's day. ;)

Exactly, and what a great moat to both re use and close off the show. ;) I think I'll do what I did for the Nose Ring/Nostradamus moat, save it for last. I mean, look what we did with saving our John Sutter episode review for last. And Lawrence of Arabia being voted on last for all the polls that were made here. So it's only fitting.

Either way, side scrolling net's moat ends with a 6.8 average.

Up next is the "three islands and a plank" moat. And yes I'm saving the "net and vine" moat for last. Just like I did with the Vine moat in Season 2. ;)

I gave this moat a 7. I liked the idea of the teams working together getting across three lilies while working with a plank. Just like the swinging steps moat, it put a lot of emphasis on teamwork. The only problem with this moat is, some teams struggled to get across, and some teams just couldn't do it. Either way, it was a pretty neat moat. ;)

I also gave this moat a 7. A good concept, but it gave some teams unnecessary trouble on that production day. After Ivan the Terrible though, the other moats were lengthy and pretty boring. But still, the team aspect of it was enjoyable and it was one of the more original moat ideas on the show. Not as good as Red Sash's moat where the players had to use the vine to cross, but still a great moat. ;)

I gave this moat an 8. I loved this moat, and I liked the "Slip N' Slide" concept of it too. With the exception of a few teams, not many of the players who tried this moat had too much trouble with it. It's definitely a moat I'd like to try out. This is one of my favorite moats ever, and it's my second favorite Season 3 moat behind the "swinging steps" moat on Sir Gawain's day. ;)

I gave this moat a 9, for the same reasons as PP319. It was a great moat and it definitely looked fun to participate in. Plus, I remember all of the moats that day being pretty good also. It kind of reminds me of a throwback to the belly sliding temple games in Season 1. And at least they were smart enough to put a rope on it too for the players to pull themselves.  ;)

I might actually give this a 9 too. And if I do, it will not only have a solid 9 average, but it will be easily the highest rated moat in this thread.

Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Red Sash Day "Floating Icebergs"

I gave this moat a 7. It was a neat moat, and it required a lot of balance and grace. I like how fast some of the moats went by on this filming day. I mean, look how short Apanuugpak's moat was. :o On the flip side, some of the moats were pretty long, like Poseidon's moat. Some of the kids just weren't coordinated enough to balance on the icebergs. But like the slippery footpath moat, it did look like a neat moat to try out. ;)
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Red Sash Day "Floating Icebergs"

I gave this moat an 8. I like how this moat had a simple objective that was quite challenging. It wasn't like Belle Boyd's moat which was both a simple objective and easy. This moat actually gave players a challenge. And of course, we had the Apanuugpak moat that was literally one of the fastest moats on the show. :o I think the Gwalior one beats it by a second or two though. But that is pretty damn good considering the other moats like Red Sash and Lily-Crested Crown were kind of long. And yes, this is a moat I would like to try also.  :mrred:
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Red Sash Day "Floating Icebergs"

Poseidon's moat was pretty long too. And poorly voiced over and edited to boot. O_O But yeah, Apanuugpak's moat was extremely quick. It was one of the, if not THE shortest moat ever. And I just watched Apanuugpak today too. What a coincidence.

Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Metal Beard Day "Lilypads and Vines"
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on May 10, 2014, 04:10:58 PM
I gave this moat a 7. I liked the concept of both teams crossing the lilypads and vines together, and I liked the emphasis it put on teamwork. But like the balancing on boogie board moat, I felt like some of the rules were a little nitpicky. Like, you had to touch every last vine or you had to start all over again. And your knees couldn't touch the lilypads either. Some of these teams really struggled too, as it did look like a difficult task. It was a neat moat, but not one of my favorites. ;)
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Metal Beard Day "Lilypads and Vines"
Post by: The Red Jaguars on May 10, 2014, 06:49:53 PM
I gave this moat a 7 also. It was better than the plank and lilypad moat from the impossible layout day, but not by much. I agree with you about the knees not being able to touch the lilypad rule being too harsh also. I mean, the players were crossing a large, slippery, and unstable lilypad. It was probably hard to be steady. Why were the Season 3 rules so anal? It was still a good moat and I don't recall any of the crossings from this day being overly bad. ;)
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Metal Beard Day "Lilypads and Vines"
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on May 10, 2014, 08:00:29 PM
Well, I remember Mummified Hand's moat being a tad long. Mostly because those kids just couldn't keep their balance. But yeah, those lilypads were way too slippery and unstable. So I don't blame some of the teams for struggling to cross. I do kind of like the "three islands and a plank" moat better, but this moat was still pretty cool too. ;) What a coincidence that both episodes Jennifer from Melted Head was on featured lilypads for a moat. And the second time around, she managed to cross it no problem, and made it to the temple. :mrorange:

Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Gwalior Day "Run/Crawl Across a Bridge"
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on May 11, 2014, 04:18:15 PM
I gave this moat a 5. Actually, I should've given it lower. This is my least favorite moat of Season 3. I mean, you just run or crawl across a bridge, seriously. Even the running aspect of the moat (that you saw in Gwalior) didn't impress me. Oh well, if it's any consolation, tomorrow's last and final moat is MUCH more inspiring than this one. This is the only real bad moat in Season 3, that you'd expect in Season 1. So there's that. ;)
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Gwalior Day "Run/Crawl Across a Bridge"
Post by: The Red Jaguars on May 11, 2014, 07:59:57 PM
I gave this moat a 4. The concept was way too simple and it felt like an idea that would come from Season 1, not the second to last day of Season 3. I mean all the contestants had to do was run across the bridge. I like how between the first episode (Gwalior) and the next episode (Belle Boyd) the producers had to change the objective. I do like how some of the moats were fast, but it wasn't anything special considering how easy they were in the first place. My least favorite moat from Season 3.

Put it this way: Tomorrow's moat is gonna be arguably one of the best moats on the show. And then this entire thread will be over and we won't have to vote on anymore moats. I mean, who doesn't like a net and vine for a moat? Really now.

Tomorrow's moat is a classic. It was special that they brought the concept back for another production day. This moat was awesome in episodes like Catherine the Great and Imperial Wizard. ;)

Also, I like how at least one moat was repeated in each season:

Great Seal Moat/Cobra Staff Moat
Missing Eye Moat/Priceless Portrait Moat
Mystical Spellbook Moat/Ruby Earring Moat
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Gwalior Day "Run/Crawl Across a Bridge"

Wait, was Great Seal's moat the same as Cobra Staff's moat? I remember Great Seal's moat had the paddles, and Oracle Bowl and Cobra Staff's moat had the tubes. But yeah, Mystical Spellbook and Catherine the Great's moat was very special. It featured a great challenge and I liked how some of the contestants did unintentional backflips on the nets too. They definitely picked a good moat to repeat for the last ever filming day. ;)

And for once this poll is not unanimous. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but who would give this moat a 7? :? This was easily one of the most uninspiring moats ever to be featured on the show. Either way, the "run/crawl across a bridge" moat ends with a 5.2 average. ;)

Up next is the last ever (and recycled) moat. The good old "net and vine" moat.  :mrsilver: :mrred:

I gave this moat an 8. This to me, was one of the best moats ever used for the show, and I'm glad they brought it back on the last ever filming day. I liked the challenge of swinging on a vine, and then jumping to the other side of the net. I loved the backflips some of the contestants did too. Some of the moats were pretty long, because some of these teams just couldn't jump off the net. But it was still a great moat and a great concept, and it was an awesome moat to both recycle, and close out the show with. ;)

I gave our very last moat an 8. It was a classic moat and even the producers thought it was great to bring it back for the very last day. :mrred: Also, some of these moats had very memorable moments like the Green Monkeys in Empress Eugenie struggling to the close moat in Imperial Wizard. This was an awesome moat and it totally deserved a second appearance. ;)

And yeah, I can't believe someone gave Belle Boyd's moat a 7. I am guessing it was because most of the moats that day were close and competitive?  :?:

That's my best guess, especially considering how short Gwalior's moat was.

And to add on to the memorable moments: The Orange Iguana girl taking a nasty spill in Empress Eugenie's moat. I hope to god she wasn't hurt. But yeah, this was totally an awesome moat. It's even a moat I would've liked to try out. ;) :mrred:

And without further ado, here's the all the moat ratings, from highest to lowest:

Season/LayoutAverage
Season 3: (Bifocal Monocle Day): Swinging Steps8.80
Season 3: (Roland Day): Slippery Footpath8.75
Season 2, Layout 4: (Silk Sash Day): Hanging Inner Tubes8.00

Season 3: (Red Sash Day): Floating Icebergs7.20
Season 1, Layout 1: King Tut's Staff7.00

Season 3: (Chandragupta Day): Balance on a Boogie Board7.00
Season 3: (Snow Cone Day): Side Scrolling Net6.80
Season 3: (Discarded Seal Day): Three Islands and a Plank6.80
Season 3: (Metal Beard Day): Lilypads and Vines6.80
Season 2, Layout 2: (Walking Stick Day): Build a Bridge6.60
Season 2, Layout 3: (Sacred Ring Day): Cross Ancient Babylonian Wheels as a Team6.40
Season 2, Layout 2: (Atocha Day): Shimmy Across Poll Upside Down6.00
Season 2, Layout 1: (Silver Horseshoe Day): Criss Crossing Ropes5.80
Season 1, Layout 2: Aztec Footboard5.75
Season 2, Layout 3/5: (Nose Ring/Nostradamus Day): Swing on a Vine5.25
Season 3: (Gwalior Day): Run/Crawl Across a Bridge5.20
Season 1, Layout 4: Paddle Across on Raft One at a Time4.00
Season 1, Layout 8: Hand-over-Hand on Overhead Rope with Inflatable Tubes3.75
Season 1, Layout 5: Inflatable Tubes One at a Time3.40
Season 1, Layout 6: Paddle Across on Raft with Overhead Rope/Tightrope3.00
Season 1, Layout 3: Swimming with Overhead Rope for a Tightrope2.25
Season 1, Layout 7: Hand-over-Hand on Overhead Rope with Tightrope1.40
Season 2, Layout 2: (Mush Pot Hat Day): Shaky Log1.20

So, the "swinging steps" moat from Bifocal Monocle's filming day is the highest rated moat with a whopping 8.80 average. And the "shaky log" moat from Mush Pot Hat's filming day is the lowest rated moat with a mere 1.20 average. It's interesting how a lot of the Season 3 moats were the highest rated, most of the Season 2 moats ranked in the middle, and almost all the Season 1 moats ranked towards the bottom. It definitely goes to show you how much the moat quality improved as the show wore on. No more of the same tired, "use a rope to get across" objectives after Season 1. By the second filming day of Season 2, almost all the moats had a unique and challenging concept to it. I think we can all agree that the moats, and show in general, improved immensely in quality after Season 1.

And that's it. Hope you enjoyed this poll/topic. Up next is the ranking of all the color combinations of the show. Starting with the steps, and then the temple games. Any final thoughts? ;)

Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Smashed Printing Plate/Sforza Day "Net and Vine"

Anyways, I like how all of the Season 1 moats rank towards the bottom and the Season 3 ones rank towards the top. It really tells you how much the show has grown from the very first season to the last season. No surprise to see most of the Season 1 moats rank low either. No wonder anyone thinks highly of the Season 1 because they were the same tired concept. :? But I agree with these moat rankings. Thanks for hosting this topic and it was fun revisiting each of these moats. ;)

My top 5 favorite moats:

1. Swinging Steps moat (William the Conqueror/Sir Gawain Moat)
2. Belly Sliding moat (Queen Boadicea/Pirate Captain Moat)
3. Stacked Tubes moat (Golden Pepperoni/Henry Morgan Moat)
4. King Tut's Staff moat (Belshazzar/Galileo Moat)
5. Iceberg moat (Red Sash/Apanuugpak Moat)
Title: Re: Rate the Moat Crossing - Smashed Printing Plate/Sforza Day "Net and Vine"

My Top 5 Favorite moats would be:
1. Swinging Steps moat (Bifocal Monocle day)
2. Slippery Footpath moat (Roland day)
3. Hanging Inner Tubes moat (Silk Sash day)
4. Floating Icebergs (Red Sash day)
5. King Tut's Staff moat (Galileo/Dead Man's Hand day)

So our list is almost the same, minus the hanging inner tubes moat. The net and vine moat and S1L9 moat are honorable mentions. ;)
