Title: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 35: The Pendant of Kamehameha
Post by: The Red Jaguars on January 03, 2014, 02:22:46 PM
It's been a while since we had the classic "Rating Poll". I thought it would be nice to start 2014 off with another rating poll similar to the ones that GM1 held. This time, I thought it would be interesting to hold a series where we determine the most difficult temple layouts on the show. We always talk about how easy and difficult some temple layouts are. Why not hold a rating thread to figure out the most difficult temple layouts? Just like the past rating threads, you will vote for each temple layout on a scale of 1-10. A layout with a 1 = an easy and cupcake layout while a layout with a 10 = a brutal and difficult temple layout. You can also compare some temple layouts with similar ones also when giving your rating for each layout. I think this could be a fun idea that would hold us over for a good portion of 2014. ;)

We will start off with "The Stolen Arm of Shiva".

Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 1: The Stolen Arm of Shiva
Post by: The Red Jaguars on January 03, 2014, 02:25:48 PM
I gave the Shiva layout a 6. It was kind of a long layout for Season 1, but at the same time it didn't have to be that long if the players didn't take a direct path. Christina and Evan could've avoided the entire central shaft if they used the Troubled Bridge from the Gargoyle Room. That would've saved them a trip through at least two rooms. This layout was pretty winnable, but the players slow speed and poor strategy caused them to come up very short. The Blue Pearl or Lawrence of Arabia team would have success in this layout. In conclusion, this layout was kind of tricky, but it was definitely winnable.

I also gave it a 6. The layout would've been pretty long anyways even if Christina and Evan didn't scale the central shaft. But it was their own fault for adding extra rooms to their path and moving too slow. Like TRJ said, this layout was pretty winnable, but Christina and Evan just weren't fast enough.

Shiva finishes with a 6.00.

The next temple run is the run where we spend over a minute in the Chamber.

Day Two - "The Lily-Crested Crown of Clovis I"
Artifact Location - Quicksand Bog
Players - Katie and Judge
Rooms Entered - 5
Temple Guard Locations - Room of the Ancient Warriors, Shrine of the Silver Monkey

I gave the Lily-Crested Crown layout a 6. This layout was very winnable and by no means hard at all for a Season 3 layout. The Orange Iguanas failed pretty badly due to their own incompetence. It should NOT take you over a minute to complete the Chamber. It was a tough room, but no one spent over a minute in there. This layout was pretty identical to "Gwalior", and Dawn and Ryan did much better than Katie and Judge. So Judge and Katie have no excuse to not reach their artifact.

I gave them a 5. This layout was very easy for Season 3 standards, but Katie blew it, big time. Should've been the Purple Parrots.

You said 6, but the tally says you picked 5. :P

I chose 6 because this run required the team to complete some of the harder objectives with a temple guard just a couple rooms before the Crown. This was by no means an easy run, but it wasn't too difficult either.

Wasn't the Chamber door open for Katie during this run too? So she might've been able to avoid the King's Storeroom, unlike the Gwalior team. Both runs are identical layout wise, but Ryan was removed from the Shrine with way more time than Katie did. It was also possible that the Shrine opened from the Quicksand Bog. Another closely identical run was Chandragupta, where Andrea had little problems completing her objectives. Of course, she had a solo shot where the Lily-Crested Crown team didn't. But still, Katie and Judge should've made it to the Quicksand Bog at least. No reason to ever spend over a minute in a room, unless it was a production error.

I don't recall any door (other than the King's Storeroom door) opened from the Pit, if that's what you mean. Unless you're confusing it with yet another run, all I saw was the King's Storeroom door open. And even if that weren't the case, the results would've been.... the same thing. Katie still would've been stuck in the Chamber and there would be no chance for victory.

Post by: The Red Jaguars on January 04, 2014, 06:50:35 PM
I just checked, it was the Gwalior run where the Chamber was the only door open. During the Lily-Crested Crown run, only the King's Storeroom opened. But yeah, the results would've been the same even if the team didn't enter the Chamber. Which is too bad, because Katie was actually moving fast before the Chamber. But her partner was a lost cause anyways.

I don't recall the Chamber door being opened in the Gwalior run either. And both Gwalior and Lily Crested Crown had the SAME path, and same temple guard location. Am I dreaming here, or did Ryan enter the King's Storeroom first in that temple run? Where just like Lily Crested Crown, that was the only door opened from the Pit. Or maybe it was hard to tell from the rubble Ryan was trying to clear while climbing the Pit walls.

Nope, you are right. :P I just checked and the Gwalior layout was identical to Lily-Crested Crown's layout. And the temple guard layout was identical too. The only possible difference that could happen is that the Quicksand Bog might've opened from the Shrine during the Lily-Crested Crown run. But I don't think it did because it never did in either Gwalior or Chandragupta.

Lily-Crested Crown finishes with a 5.75. I realized I said I gave this run a 6 in my original post, but I meant that I gave it a 5. ;)

Next up is Katie and Roberto from Leonardo Da Vinci.  :mrorange:

Day Three - "The Paintbrush of Leonardo Da Vinci"
Artifact Location - Tomb of the Ancient Kings
Players - Katie and Roberto
Rooms Entered - 7
Temple Guard Locations - Swamp, Observatory
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 3: The Paintbrush of Leonardo Da Vinci
Post by: The Red Jaguars on January 05, 2014, 12:52:16 PM
I gave Leonardo Da Vinci an 8. This layout was very cheap, even if it was the Season 1 temple that had many easy rooms. The whole "double whammy" in the Swamp with a dead end plus a temple guard was brutal. Not only that, but the Orange Iguanas were forced up the entire central shaft. Seriously, why not have the Treasure Room open from the Swamp? What was the point of that passageway then if it never opened? This layout was very unfair and brutal. Katie and Roberto were NOT a bad team and would have better success with any other temple layout. Although it might've helped if they didn't take a direct path too. But they were from Season 1, so you can't hold it against them. :?

And let's not forget the fact that they brought the EXACT same layout one day later for Stone Marker.

Leonardo Da Vinci finishes with an 8.00.   :mrorange:

Now we move onto a temple run that is not an Orange Iguana run. Sacagawea is up next.

Day Four - "The Lion-Slashed Jacket of Sacagawea"
Artifact Location - Tomb of the Headless Kings
Players - Lauren and Mike
Rooms Entered - 7
Temple Guard Locations - Tomb of the Headless Kings, King's Storeroom
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 4: The Lion-Slashed Jacket of Sacagawea

I gave the Sacagawea layout a 7. It was a pretty long layout for Season 3, but it definitely was winnable. This layout is almost identical to "Pirate Captain" and Jessica and Jarrid won just fine. If Lauren and Mike actually attempted to move faster, this would've been an artifact acquisition at least.

Day Five - "The Comet-Embroidered Battle Flag of William the Conqueror"
Artifact Location - Chamber of the Sacred Markers
Players - Olivia and Jonathan
Rooms Entered - 9
Temple Guard Locations - Crypt, Tomb of the Headless Kings, Room of the Ancient Warriors
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 5: The Comet-Embroidered Battle Flag
Post by: The Red Jaguars on January 07, 2014, 09:24:32 PM
William the Conqueror gets a 7 from me. Like most center of the temple runs, this one was not easy in anyway. The Green Monkeys had to enter through some time consuming rooms, and the temple guard layout didn't make it any easier. However, this layout was definitely winnable. In fact, Jonathan and Olivia really should've won. They were a great team, but their mistakes were way too glaring. It wasn't because of the temple layout that they lost, rather it was their own mistakes to be blamed. They were still a good team though, but this layout was pretty fair.

I gave this one an 8. It's basically identical to the Apanuugpak run, and I think that layout was hard. It's definitely a run that should've been won, but it was still a lengthy and fairly difficult layout.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 5: The Comet-Embroidered Battle Flag
Post by: The Red Jaguars on January 07, 2014, 10:27:31 PM
You know, I am tempted to change my vote to an 8 as well. If you think about it, this run had the potential to be a "one room away" guard run if Olivia didn't encounter her guard in the Crypt. And PP319 is right about this being almost identical to Mussel-Shell Armor. The only reason I might no vote an 8 because it was still a fair layout that should've been won. Unlike Marble Armrest or Hans Holbein where those layouts were near impossible, despite how good the players would've been.

William the Conqueror finishes with a 7.00.

Next up is a temple run where a half-pendant could possibly help you avoid triple capture.  :mrsilver:

Day Six - "The Missing Eye of David"
Artifact Location - Shrine of the Silver Monkey
Players - Michael and Emily
Rooms Entered - 6
Temple Guard Locations - Observatory, Medusa's Lair, Swamp
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 6: The Missing Eye of David
Post by: The Red Jaguars on January 08, 2014, 04:47:44 PM
Missing Eye gets an 8 from me. This layout was tough for a few reasons reasons. For one, Mitchell and Emily had to take a pretty long path to the Shrine. Secondly, the temple guard placement was cheap for a 1.5 pendant run where the team could not avoid any temple guards and they were forced to find their half-pendant. And finally, where was that half-pendant? This was the only forgivable triple capture from Season 2 and I do not blame the Silver Snakes for this loss.  :?  The combination of everything above made it a tough and tricky layout.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 6: The Missing Eye of David
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on January 08, 2014, 06:09:24 PM
Michael, NOT Mitchell. ;)

And I also gave it an 8. Where the heck was that half pendant? Not to mention, Medusa's Lair was broken AGAIN, and the layout was tough. You really can't blame Michael for taking a while with some room objectives.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 6: The Missing Eye of David
Post by: The Red Jaguars on January 08, 2014, 08:03:04 PM
Some people think that the Silver Snakes wouldn't have won even if it didn't end in triple capture. But I thought that Emily could've pulled off the win. Assuming the Dark Forest-Shrine passage open, she should've had enough time to grab the Missing Eye and bring it out of the temple unless she pulls a Ron/Tara and take the central shaft out. But she seemed to be pretty competent, so I think Emily would've won. I would definitely forgive this triple capture though over Queen Nzinga or Nathan Hale.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 6: The Missing Eye of David
Post by: PurpleParrot319 on January 08, 2014, 08:20:21 PM
This run definitely deserves a high score. I also gave it an 8. That layout was so unfair, especially since the half pendant was on the floor in Medusa's Lair (I think, I would have to check that one topic where we talked about half pendant locations). How would Emily know the half pendant was there? I know there's a chance they could've started low, but that seems very unlikely and we'll never know if there was a second path. Just have to judge the run on what it is.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 6: The Missing Eye of David
Post by: The Red Jaguars on January 08, 2014, 08:28:16 PM
I don't think there was an alternate path, unfortunately. When Emily completes the Laser Light Room objective, you don't see the Rock Quarry door opening at all. But yeah, I wonder why the producers felt the need to put the half-pendant in such an obscure place for this run? In every other S2 temple run, it was on some kind of actuator in plain sight. So I wonder why they didn't do the same thing for this run and place it on the Observatory actuator like they did in Sultan Suleiman/Enormous Iron Nose Ring.  :?

Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on January 08, 2014, 09:01:23 PM
Yeah, the half pendant definitely should've been hidden better. And I also think they could've pulled off a win if they did get to keep going.

The guards were in Medusa's Lair, the Laser Light Room, and the Swamp, btw. ;)

As for the location of the half-pendant, I still think it was hanging on one of the room's inactive actuators from when it was the Room of Fallen Columns and Heart Room. Certainly wasn't unprecedented, since we all know the half pendant in "The Lost Love Letter of Captain John Smith" was hanging from one of the inactive actuators in the King's Storeroom (from when it was the Treasure Room).

Before I forget and go to work, I am going to end Missing Eye's time with a score of 7.75.

From one quirky triple capture to another, the next run is Josh and Maggie from Mummified Hand.  :mrblue:

Day Seven - "The Mummified Hand of the Egyptian King"
Artifact Location - Dark Forest
Players - Maggie and Josh
Rooms Entered - 7
Temple Guard Locations - Crypt, Tomb of the Headless Kings, Room of the Secret Password

Yeah, that is where I thought it might've been too. I do think that Michael even tried pressing the inactive actuators. But he was a frontrunner, so he could've signaled it to Emily if he found it. Although at least the Captain John Smith one was pretty obvious. The Missing Eye one was pretty obscure.

And I gave the Mummified Hand layout an 8. Maggie and Josh had to traverse a really long path. Even if the team could avoid two rooms by entering the King's Storeroom, their path was still long since they were forced into the Secret Password/Quicksand Bog. If they stayed low, then they would've entered every room to reach the Dark Forest. So I kind of don't blame Josh for taking the high road. And it didn't help that Maggie losing her Pendant messed up their strategy too. This was a good team with bad luck and a tough layout.

I also gave Mummified Hand an 8. Tough layout, though this loss was preventable. I must be the only person who thinks it was a HUGE mistake for Josh to take the high road. Seriously, if you have less than 2 pendants, and a bottom path is opened, you take it. You always follow your partners path if you don't have 2 full pendants. I don't care if taking the high road was your original plan. Josh was more to blame for this loss than Maggie was. I don't even care about the pendant dropping by Maggie. That was totally by accident. But Josh never should've strayed from Maggie's bottom floor path.

Day Eight- "The Ruby Earring of Benzibab"

Players - Kevin and Annie
Rooms Entered - 6
Temple Guard Locations - Crypt, Tomb of the Headless Kings
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 8: The Ruby Earring of Benzibab

Benzibab gets a 4 from me. This layout was way too generous for Kevin and Annie. I know it was never easy in the Season 3 temple, but this layout was too easy compared to other runs like Lost Taj Mahal Turban and Imperial Wizard. I am not saying that Kevin and Annie were bad players, but their layout was only generous because they were the last production day of Season 3. They would not have a minute left on the clock if it was any other production day. Plenty of teams would've won with this layout.

Next up is Travis and Elisa from Ivan the Terrible.

I gave the Ivan the Terrible layout a 10. This episode featured the hardest layout on the show. Travis and Elisa were flawless in the temple, but they still lost because their layout was so hard and challenging. Their path to the artifact was just brutal, and it didn't help that Travis was taken out so far away in the temple. Even after Elisa hauled ass to get there, she couldn't reach the Discarded Seal because of the Ancient Warrior guards. This layout was just impossible and if Travis and Elisa couldn't win this layout, then no one would.  :?

Agree, even though the "William Tell" layout might be the only one harder than that one. But Lauren and Brett sucked and they had no excuse for not making decent progress since it was pretty similar to "Belle Boyd". The fact that Travis and Elisa were flawless and still failed to reach the artifact warrants a second chance. What were the producers thinking with this layout?

The question that begs is, what were the producers thinking with all four layouts that day, period? :?

And yeah, Dried Apple Half was pretty hard too. Even though Lauren and Brett were horrid players, I always thought their layout was even worse. Though Travis and Elisa were totally robbed. They did everything right and still lost. All the layouts that day were hard really.

Ivan the Terrible finishes with an unsurprising solid 10.  That whole production day was a bitch though, although Mary Shelley was at least winnable if it wasn't for Monster Monkey.

The next temple run will be a win where two contestants can't stay in camera frame.  :mrred:

Day Ten - "The Helmet of Genghis Khan"
Artifact Location - Pirate's Cove

Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 10: The Helmet of Genghis Khan

I gave Genghis Khan a score of a 3. This temple layout was very generous and the team won with quite some time left despite walking through the whole temple. Rachelle was even taken out one room away and this team still won. The Red Jaguars were a good team, but this layout was too easy. A lot of teams would win in this layout.

I gave Electrified Key a 5. Out of all the bottom of the central shaft runs on the show, this one should've been the easiest one to win. Peter and Michelle had an easy solo victory, but they blew it when they took the direct path. By Season 2, you have no excuse for trying a direct path. Especially one that leads straight to the artifact. This layout was average and definitely winnable, but the Blue Barracudas took a long path for no reason.  :?

      gets a lowly 1 from me, easily. THIS was the easiest temple run on the show, and Jeremy and Erika still did not finish with much time. That is mostly due to Jeremy being a slowpoke and clueless. They probably wouldn't have won in most other layouts because of Jeremy. If you give almost any team this layout, they would still win. I think that John and Tia could even win with this layout.

Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 12: Robin Hood and Marian's Ladder
Post by: The Red Jaguars on January 15, 2014, 03:35:12 PM
Yeah, Silk Ladder was easily the easiest temple layout on the show. The only reason Jeremy won was because he had to push two actuators.      Almost any team from Season 1 would've won this layout, even lost cause teams like Lost Hammer and Lucky Pig. Even if a team pulled a Ron/Tara and went down the central shaft, they should still win because of how easy it was.

This might be taking it a little too far, but I think John and Tia would even reach the Silk Ladder with this layout. The Heart Room would've opened for Tia in this run. No way in hell would they win, but this layout was so easy that any average player would've won.

I wouldn't say it was the easiest. A certain other win was even easier, but I agree. Anything higher than a 1 for this layout is really stretching it. Also, TSM voted for 3 twice. How does that happen? :?

Shaka Zulu? Yeah, that one might be easier than Robin Hood. But then again, that one was most likely a production error too. But both wins were piss easy anyways, so there was no excuse for any team to not win those layouts. Roland was way too easy also. But yeah, a 3 is pretty generous in my mind. I would give that score to runs like Sforza or Genghis Khan.

It looks like the double "3" vote was probably an accident. Since both votes happened at the exact same time. The poll was probably lagging or glitchy and added a second vote for TSM by accident.

Next up is a rather exciting temple run featuring Shem and Ashley from Henry Morgan.  :mrsilver:

Day Thirteen - "The Golden Earring of Henry Morgan"

Players - Shem and Ashley
Rooms Entered - 8
Temple Guard Locations - Laser Light Room, Mine Shaft
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 13: The Golden Earring of Henry Morgan

Henry Morgan receives a 7 from me. This temple layout had a chance at being a solo victory, but Shem and Ashley kind of blew it. But still, their path to their artifact was filled with some tough objectives. And center of the temple runs were never easy either. They tackled the temple quite well, but took a longer path for no reason. The Mine Shaft and the Observatory were both avoidable. But it was by no means an easy layout either, so these two did a great job despite taking an extra long path.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 13: The Golden Earring of Henry Morgan
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on January 15, 2014, 07:55:50 PM
I also gave them a 7. This layout was long, like most center of the rooms runs are, but it was winnable. It definitely would've helped if Ashley didn't enter the Mine Shaft, and if Shem didn't climb the Jester's Court ladder didn't enter the Observatory.

Seriously, that is like the dumbest thing I have ever seen someone hold against a team. It is even worst than the Ryan from Gwalior taking a direct path thing.  outer space posted the most absurd crap. He even posted in one of the elimination threads that Chris from Lost Lariat was one of the best boys from Season 1.

But yeah, this team really should've won. If Shem went into the temple first, I don't think he would've made the same mistake as Ashley. I think the Annie Oakley team would've reached the Golden Earring with this run too. Since Chandra moved quick along the bottom floor and she wouldn't be taken out one room away. And Nick would've used the Mine Shaft shortcut. Still, reaching a center of the temple artifact is good even though the Silver Snakes should've won.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 13: The Golden Earring of Henry Morgan
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on January 15, 2014, 09:33:44 PM
Yeah, outerspace was full of crap. He chastises BOTH players for climbing the Jester's Court ladder, that only shaved off maybe 5 seconds total. But no, that's just the reason they lost. And Chris from Pecos Bill was the best Season 1 player? Are we watching the same show as him? He walked through every room, and made no effort to speed up once he reached the artifact. And he sat in the Well like a moron. [/soapbox]

And yeah, players like Chandra and Nick probably would've won with that layout. As long as they didn't make the exact same mistakes as Ashley and Shem did. If it weren't for Ashley and Shem's mistakes, they would've won for sure.

Snake Bracelet gets a 2 from me. Honestly, this temple run should've been the fastest team win on the show. Robert was a very fast runner, but Tracy was just slow and took her sweet time. They would've beaten Benzibab's time if Tracy actually picked up the pace a little bit. Plus, the door to the Golden Orbs was most likely her fault for breaking in the first place. Many  teams would've won with this layout, and probably with better time too. A very generous layout.

I gave Bifocal Monocle a score of a 7. For a Season 3 layout, this temple run was pretty bizarre. The Orange Iguanas kind of had bad luck with the Room of the Ancient Warrior guards. But at the same time, Veronica and Thomas were a horrible team and this layout was definitely winnable. I gave this layout a slightly higher score due to the kind of unfair deadend. Otherwise, it was the Orange Iguanas fault that they lost.

I gave it a 6. While the run was different from most runs, two of the temple guards were avoidable. This had the potential to be a solo win IF this run had competent players. At the very least, this run required at least 6 objectives to be completed, so it wasn't that bad. Those rooms were still pretty time-consuming and the Orange Iguanas should've known that the Ancient Warriors was going to be a dead end.

Day Sixteen- "The Golden Stallion of Ali Baba"

Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 16: The Golden Stallion of Ali Baba
Post by: The Red Jaguars on January 18, 2014, 12:39:52 PM
I gave the Golden Stallion layout an 8. Production error aside, this layout was most likely similar to Billy the Kid or Dr. Livingstone. However, CJ and Kendra were really unfortunate to meet a production error during their run. Which is why this run received a higher score than those layouts above. Most likely, if any other team encountered this same problem, they would've lost too. The production error alone gives this temple layout a high score.

I gave it a 7. Like TRJ said, if it wasn't for the potential production error, this could've been an easy win. But the glitches in the Throne Room ruined it. So this layout actually was pretty tough.

I gave Snow Cone a 5. This was NOT a hard layout in anyway. The Silver Snakes just flat out sucked and had no business being in the temple. There was no excuse for them to travel through 5 rooms in 3 minutes. And I really don't think that the Dark Forest-Shrine passage was a dead end either. Heather forced the door open when she shouldn't have. Heather and Casey were lost causes anyways, and both of them struggled way too much in the easiest rooms of the Season 3 temple. The layout was definitely winnable, but an incompetent team like them were going to go nowhere.

Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 18: The Two-Cornered Hat of Napoleon
Post by: The Red Jaguars on January 20, 2014, 09:35:33 PM
I gave the Two-Cornered Hat layout a 7. Brian and Carly should've won their temple layout, but it was not THAT easy. Unlike  Enormous Iron Nose Ring or Jeweled Necklace, there was no chance at a solo victory. Furthermore, it is also possible that the Mine Shaft-Shrine door really was locked during this run. I mean Carly never tried the door completely, but whose to say that it would've actually opened? This layout was not a cakewalk by any means and the team handled it very well.

Next up is Taylor and Rachelle from Attila the Hun.

Day Nineteen- "The Golden Goblet of Attila the Hun"

Temple Guard Locations - Medusa's Lair

Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 19: The Golden Goblet of Attila the Hun

Attila the Hun gets an 8 for Rachelle's layout. This layout was pretty long even though Rachelle never took a direct path. She had to enter some of the most time consuming rooms of Season 2. And who knows if the Mine Shaft would've opened for her? She could've been forced into the Room of Secret Password and get taken out by a one room away guard. Altough this layout certainly wasn't impossible. She would've had more success if she moved faster. But still, even a team like Atocha would probably not even win with this layout.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 19: The Golden Goblet of Attila the Hun
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on January 22, 2014, 02:02:35 AM
I also gave the layout an 8. Tough layout, since Rachelle had to switch floors three times. But, she still could've moved faster.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 19: The Golden Goblet of Attila the Hun
Post by: The Red Jaguars on January 22, 2014, 02:06:43 AM
I thought for sure that Rachelle would've had an easier path if she went down to the Laser Light Room from the Pit.But I was wrong because that door did not open from the Pit. She could've only avoided the Observatory at best during her run. And it was possible that either the Dark Forest or Secret Password held the last guard. But if she moved faster, then Taylor might've had a chance to enter.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 19: The Golden Goblet of Attila the Hun
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on January 22, 2014, 02:13:59 AM
I must seriously be the only person who thinks one of the temple guards was in the Room of the Secret Password. And NOT the Dark Forest like most people here love to claim. It literally makes no sense to station a guard in the Dark Forest. It's just a dead end room, where there would be no point in even going in there. Did the door to the Dark Forest even open at all at the end of the temple run? I don't think the Mine Shaft door did either.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 19: The Golden Goblet of Attila the Hun
Post by: The Red Jaguars on January 22, 2014, 02:19:43 AM
Rachelle never actually completed the Silver Monkey at all. She never put the head on the right way and just gave up after time ran out. But yeah, I don't think the Dark Forest makes sense for the last guard. I think the other two guards were in the Ledges and Secret Password. The Dark Forest would only make sense for runs like "Imperial Purple Robe" where the wall never broke down. I also don't think that Rachelle would've been given access to the Mine Shaft after assembling the Monkey..
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 19: The Golden Goblet of Attila the Hun
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on January 22, 2014, 02:21:51 AM
Yeah, I figured Rachelle never actually completed the monkey. And some have claimed before that the Mine Shaft door did open. Whatever they got that from. This layout was pretty hard, so I doubt she would've been given direct access.

Yeah, if she was allowed to enter the Mine Shaft directly from the Shrine, then that last guard would've been utterly useless in the Secret Password. No competent contestant would add an extra room to their layout. But then again, Kim made that stupid mistake during the Charles Lindbergh run.

Day Twenty - "The Golden Cup of Belshazzar"

Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 20: The Golden Cup of Belshazzar
Post by: The Red Jaguars on January 22, 2014, 09:08:19 PM
I gave the Belshazzar layout a 10. Why? Because the whole layout was just screwed up and Katherine and Ron got shafted big time. It doesn't matter how easy this layout would've been if no production errors happened, there was no team going to win this one. First off, Katherine hit a dead end in the Room of Harmonic Convergence. So she was forced to backtrack from three rooms and take a different route. And in the Treasure Room, she hits another dead end AND is taken out in the temple. And when Sean enters the temple, there is no where to go because nothing opened (Maybe the Treasure Chest did?) Long story short, the Red Jaguars were a good team that got caught up in a brutal layout. Not even a great team like "Map to the Lost Gold Mine" and "Lawrence of Arabia" would've won because this whole layout was F'd up. These two deserved a second chance, easily and this was one of the most unfair layouts on the show.  :?

I am glad that this one is unanimous so far. Unlike other runs with production errors like Golden Stallion and War Fan, the Red Jaguars had no chance from the start. I bet you give them any other Shrine run from Season 1 and they would've done much better. The only other one that I might say beats Belshazzar is Dead Man's Hand because there was no production error in that layout and that team still ran into a bunch of dead ends and detours. Both of those layouts were impossible.  :?

Not to mention, Katherine and Sean already had terrible luck as it was having their run postponed. And then they finally get into the temple, and have to endure an impossible layout. The Dead Man's Hand team was equally as unlucky too. It's like every single door was unlocked, no matter what room Sara and Josh entered. I swear, the first part of Season 1 was so disorganized because of all these locked doors and/or production errors.

Belshazzar finishes with a solid 10.

Next up is the Pendant of Davy Crockett.  :mrsilver:

Day Twenty One - "The Collar of Davy Crockett"
Artifact Location - Shrine of the Silver Monkey
Players - Shannon and Adam
Rooms Entered - 6
Temple Guard Locations - Throne Room, Observatory

I gave Davy Crockett a 2. This temple layout was way too simple, and the Silver Snakes barely finished with any time. I blame most of this on Adam, who was so slow even after he grabbed the artifact. But most any other team would've won with this layout. The temple guard layout was kind of tricky, but even a mediocre team would've won.

I also gave it a 2. This layout was so easy, any team would've won. They really should've finished with more time, but Adam was too slow.

Post by: PurpleParrot319 on January 24, 2014, 10:49:10 AM
I gave Belshazzar a 10 on the production errors alone. The layout itself probably would've been of 7 quality, but the glitches caused the team to take a twisted route, only to be screwed over by another potential production error.

As for Davy Crockett, I actually gave it a 4. I agree that there is no excuse as to why this team won with only 5 seconds left with a layout like that, but I didn't think it was piss easy. Remember, both players had to scale the central column en route to the Collar and that's always a time consuming task. I know the objectives were all relatively easy, but I don't think this is worthy of a 2. A 4 sounds about right, but I do agree that this layout was pretty easy. Shannon was alright, but Adam was a slug. No reason for this run to come down to the wire.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 21: The Collar of Davy Crockett
Post by: The Red Jaguars on January 24, 2014, 02:45:24 PM
I think I am going to change my score for Davy Crockett for a 3. PP319 is right about how this team was forced up the central shaft. Even worst, Shannon was taken out at the very top of the central shaft and Adam had to retrace her steps all the way there. Plus, they did have to encounter a couple of objectives along the way -- Wheel Room and Treasury of the Golden Orbs. It definitely should have not come down to the wire like PP319 mentioned, but the layout was still generous. And when you compare this to Silk Ladder, you know that Jeremy and Erika would NOT win with Shannon and Adam's layout.

Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on January 24, 2014, 03:40:37 PM
I'm keeping my score of a 2. This layout was Silk Ladder level of easy. Seriously, the central shaft objectives were sit on plastic seat, hit actuator, spin some lights, that's too simple for even a late Season 1 temple. Hard task? No. Time consuming to get through any central shaft? Maybe.

There, vote change enabled. I'm still keeping my vote, as I just have little to no sympathy for this team. This layout was a cakewalk and their objectives should NOT have taken as long as it did. I expected so much more from this team on such an easy layout, but they almost failed. There's no excuse for it, the layout was easy, period.

Day Twenty Two - "The Mystical Spellbook of the Imperial Wizard"
Artifact Location - Room of the Secret Password
Players - Katie and Jared
Rooms Entered - 8
Temple Guard Locations - Room of the Ancient Warriors, Quicksand Bog
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 22: The Mystical Spellbook of the Imperial Wizard
Post by: The Red Jaguars on January 25, 2014, 12:41:53 AM
I gave the Imperial Wizard run an 8. Even though Jared screwed around in the Dark Forest, this layout was very long and tough and the team would've lost even if this never happened. Katie and Jared were actually a good team aside from the Dark Forest error. Even if Katie went into the temple first, they would've reached the Spellbook at best. The one room away guard was also very unfair too. The Green Monkeys were a good team, but this layout was long and challenging. Not even Kevin and Annie would've won. On a side note, props to Katie for getting where her partner was taken out of the temple despite him being removed one room away. Brian, Dana, Lauren, and Rinette should take notes.

Post by: PurpleParrot319 on January 25, 2014, 12:57:30 AM
I gave this one a 9. Jared had to complete some hard objectives, he was forced down into the Ledges, he got taken out one room away, and both players were forced to climb out of the pit. They did a good job, but this is the type of layout where both players had to be on their A game and sadly, Jared kind of messed that up. Still, this was one tough layout.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 22: The Mystical Spellbook of the Imperial Wizard
Post by: The Red Jaguars on January 25, 2014, 01:02:24 AM
Once again, I think I am going to change my vote thanks to PP319. Looking back at this layout, both players had it tough. Jared was forced down into the Ledges, forced into the bottom of the Pit, and he had to climb the wall again to the top. Then he was taken out one room away from the artifact. And Katie had to run through 8 rooms to get where he was taken out. PP319's right about both of them having to be on their "A" game. Maybe even Travis and Elisa would have a down to the wire win with this layout. And Jared was actually pretty good, aside from his Dark Forest mishap. I am going to change my vote to a 9 too. ;)

Here we go again. Alright, vote change enabled once again. But I'm still keeping my vote. It deserves an 8. It was hard, but it wasn't THAT hard. They could've reached the artifact, but Jared was way too hesitant. This team would've had better luck if Katie had gone in first. I have such a hard time feeling sympathy for them (Jared mostly) since he was so hell bent on going first, yet hardly even tries. My vote stays. I just expect morefrom teams who sweep the temple games and have a near perfect track record pre temple.

Imperial Wizard finishes with a 8.50.

Next up is a team that took a direct path even they had no choice to.

Day Twenty Three - "The Upside-Down Compass of Henry Hudson"
Artifact Location - Dark Forest
Players - Derek and Sherra
Rooms Entered - 8
Temple Guard Locations - Chamber of the Sacred Markers, King's Storeroom, Room of the Ancient Warriors

Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 23: The Upside-Down Compass of Henry Hudson
Post by: The Red Jaguars on January 25, 2014, 08:31:14 PM
I gave Henry Hudson a 9. This is probably one of the more overlooked layouts on the show. Derek and Sherra may have been slow, but their layout was tough and tricky. Like the Imperial Wizard team, they were forced down into the Ledges from the Crypt and forced up into the central shaft. Except in this run, the King's Storeroom was optional. What the heck? This team made it far despite the hard layout. Honestly, not many teams would've won with this layout. So it didn't matter if Sherra and Derek were slow, they would've lost either way. Also, Sherra should NOT have taken a direct path.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 23: The Upside-Down Compass of Henry Hudson
Post by: PurpleParrot319 on January 25, 2014, 08:54:32 PM
Once again, differing opinions. Slightly. :P

This layout gets an 8 from me. I found this one to be slightly more winnable than Imperial Wizard. The King's Storeroom was optional. Sherra should've been more alert about the Ancient Warriors being opened from the Chamber. Then Derek missed a chance at taking a shortcut from the pit to the Chamber (it was open after Sherra completed the Chamber, I remember). While we don't know what would've opened from the Shrine, I will agree that this was a challenging run that shouldn't be overlooked.

By the way. Not to sound rude, but once you vote, you should probably stick to that choice TRJ. PPF is doing it and so is everyone else (by that, I mean just me and TSM  ). While it's nice that I'm persuading you to look at runs a little differently, you should stand behind your pick in something like this. It's not that big of a deal. ;)
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 23: The Upside-Down Compass of Henry Hudson
Post by: The Red Jaguars on January 25, 2014, 09:03:14 PM
I am usually good with keeping my votes and sticking to them. It's just that sometimes I forget about details about certain runs like Imperial Wizard since I have not seen some of them for a couple of years. Imperial Wizard is just not a run where I remember every detail about like Ivan the Terrible or Missing Portrait. I apologize though if I have been changing my votes recently, I really did not intend to make anyone upset. I will be more careful in the future. ;) I know I am keeping a 9 for Henry Hudson because that was what I had from the start.  :mrpurple:

Geez, my trolling in people not keeping their votes has backfired. I am highly disappointed. I was expecting to be cussed out and told to quit acting like a drama queen bitch. :o *bitter*

Anyways, Henry Hudson gets an 8. Tough layout, but Sherra and Derek were NOT bad players be any means. Even if they did take those said shortcuts, they still would've lost. Plus, the door Pit/Chamber door didn't open until after Sherra completed the objective. Every door opened in the Chamber once Sherra completed it, so it's not like she knew those shortcuts existed. If you see a lit up ladder right in front of your face, as opposed to other opened doors, what's your first instinct? Climb the ladder, or waste time searching for which door to take next? Definitely an overlooked layout for sure. And as you guessed it, I'm keeping my vote.

Henry Hudson finishes with an 8.33

Time for another Purple Parrot run, and it features Eusinia and David from Cobra Staff  :mrpurple:

Day Twenty Four - "King Tut's Cobra Staff"
Artifact Location - Tomb of the Ancient Kings
Players - David and Eusinia
Rooms Entered - 9
Temple Guard Locations - Heart Room, Shrine of the Silver Monkey
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 24: King Tut's Cobra Staff
Post by: The Red Jaguars on January 26, 2014, 10:38:50 PM
I gave the Cobra Staff layout a 7. Eusinia and David did have their share of mistakes in the temple, but their temple layout was not that simple. The path to the artifact required 7 rooms, and included a slow trip in the Well bucket. Of course, Eusinia wasted too much time wandering into the wrong direction and David moved a little sluggish. But the layout was still a little long and wasn't that simple.

Next up is Jennifer and Justin from Zenobia.

Day Twenty Four - "The Golden Chains of Zenobia"
Artifact Location - Shrine of the Silver Monkey
Players - Jennifer and Justin
Rooms Entered - 9
Temple Guard Locations - Cave of Sighs, Treasure Room
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 25: The Golden Chains of Zenobia
Post by: The Red Jaguars on January 27, 2014, 10:00:23 PM
I gave Zenobia a 5. I use this think this layout was long and hard, but the team really added a bunch of rooms onto their paths for no reason. Jennifer never actually tried the Cave of Sighs door to the Wheel Room. It would've opened and saved her an entire trip on the top floor of the temple. Plus, she would've made more progress towards the artifact than Justin did. This layout was probably like "Dr. Livingstone", and these two lost because of their stupid mistakes.

Next up is iffj[jfjfjkfoe... I mean Thornwood Gavel.  :mrorange:

Day Twenty Four - "The Thornwood Gavel of Judge Roy Bean"
Artifact Location - Jester's Court
Players - Mike and Kelli
Rooms Entered - 9
Temple Guard Locations - Room of the Ancient Warriors, Room of the Secret Password, King's Storeroom
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 26: The Thornwood Gavel of Judge Roy Bean
Post by: The Red Jaguars on January 28, 2014, 09:45:12 PM
I gave the Thornwood Gavel layout an 8. This layout was pretty long and it required the Orange Iguanas to enter almost every room. Granted, the reason they lost was because of Kelli. She screwed up really bad by entering an uncleared room and moving slow as a rock. I don't think they would've won either way if she didn't make those mistakes because this layout was long. And when you compare this layout to Sir Gawain and Dried Ear of Corn, it had three extra rooms that were not present in those runs. So Mike and Kelli would've had more success in those runs than with their layout.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 26: The Thornwood Gavel of Judge Roy Bean
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on January 28, 2014, 10:56:08 PM
I gave the layout a 7. Tough layout, but it wouldn't have been as bad if Kelli didn't add extra rooms to the path. But it was a pretty lengthy layout.

Post by: The Red Jaguars on January 29, 2014, 01:27:58 AM
Was there a chance at a solo shot in this episode? I remember someone saying that Mike could've avoided the Room of the Secret Password and went into the Quicksand Bog from the Shrine. I am pretty sure though that the door never opened, but we never get a good shot of this board. Also, this team would've been better off if they started in the King's Storeroom.

Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on January 29, 2014, 01:45:26 AM
No, the Quicksand Bog/Shrine door never opened. There was even a screenshot somewhere here that proved that. Solo victory would've been impossible, even if they did start in the King's Storeroom. And I'm pretty sure the rest of the bottom floor was unavoidable too.

Day Twenty Seven - "The Snakeskin Boots of Billy the Kid"

Temple Guard Locations - Crypt, Dark Forest
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 27: The Snakeskin Boots of Billy the Kid

Billy the Kid gets a 5 from me. This layout was pretty simple for Kelly and Tony. Their win was by no means bad at all, but this layout was pretty generous and a lot of teams would've won with it. I respect this win a lot, but the layout still was generous. Plus, Kelly moved pretty slow and got removed one room away from the artifact and Tony still had time to reach the artifact. In general, the Shrine runs in Season 2 were all pretty simple.

I hate to be a bad guy in this case, but I gave Snakeskin Boots' layout a 3. Kelly got taken out early and the only hard objective completed was the Jesters' Court. Only the bottom level had to be completed. This was an easy layout, but a fun win to watch nevertheless. It's hard not to like it considering it's the first Purple Parrot win ever!  :mrpurple:

What temple run have you been watching? Kelly was removed in THREE ROOMS. Not one room away. Anyways, I gave this layout a 5. Very simple layout even for late Season 2 standards. No wonder old members here used to call this "the Silk Ladder of Season 2." Oh well, still love this win nonetheless. But of course, this is about layouts. :azn:

Maybe it was Metal Beard that had the Dark Forest temple guard? Well, the Billy the Kid layout was still pretty generous. Not as easy as Icarus or Dr. Livingstone, but still easy. The only tough Shrine run in Season 2 was Missing Eye.

There should be an option where admins can change privileges for regular board members. I know when I was an admin for InvisionFree, you can allow certain privileges for regular members. Regular members should also be allowed to remove polls too in a topic. I can do that, but other people like GM1 could not do it. But I can't add a "Remove Vote" button without removing the poll and putting up a new one.

Day Twenty Eight - "The Stone Head of the Evil King"
Artifact Location - Swamp
Players - Tony and Heather
Rooms Entered - 5
Temple Guard Locations - Throne Room, Medusa's Lair, King's Storeroom

Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 28: The Stone Head of the Evil King
Post by: The Red Jaguars on January 30, 2014, 09:11:42 PM
I gave the Stone Head layout a 7. While this layout was winnable, it was still pretty tricky for two reasons. One, four snakes Medusa's Lair was way too brutal no matter what team entered that room. The amount of time it took to place four snakes into her head would give a lot of contestants trouble. Secondly, the temple guard layout was a little unusual too. It would've been nice if it was more spread out. But still, Tony should not have taken over a minute in Medusa's Lair. Which is why this team really lost. But still, the two factors above kind of made this layout a little tricky.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 28: The Stone Head of the Evil King

I also gave it a 7. This was quite an interesting layout and we don't even know what would've opened from the Shrine of the Silver Monkey. Add in the fact that this Medusa's Lair required 4 snakes instead of 2 makes this a fairly difficult configuration.

I agree about the 4 snakes Medusa's Lair making the layout pretty difficult. Even though Whitney from Captain John Smith spent less time in Medusa's Lair, the Red Jaguars only added one extra room of progress compared to the Stone Head team. I am not sure if a team like Atocha or Enormous Iron Nose Ring would win this layout. Tony shouldn't have taken over a minute in that room, but you can tell how frustrated he was with aligning the snakes into her head.

I was tempted to give it a 6. If we were going by decimals, I'd probably give it a 6.5, rounding it up to a 7. Not the hardest, but not the easiest. I can definitely see a team like Ashley and Shem winning with this layout. I'll stick with my vote of 7.

I gave Grandy Nanny a 5. Unlike "Stone Head", this layout was more simple. Yet, Jonathan and Olivia were just pathetic in the temple. If Heather and Tony had this layout, they probably would've made it one room away at least. But these two were bad and lost because of their incompetence. This layout was pretty easy, but the Orange Iguanas blew their load.

Post by: The Red Jaguars on February 02, 2014, 01:39:56 PM
I gave the Lost Gold Mine layout a 7. I honestly never thought of this layout being easy at all. The Blue Barracudas had to enter 8 rooms enroute to the artifact, and that includes no shortcuts given to them either. Not many Season 1 teams would've won because slow speed won't cut it with this layout. So I don't think teams like the Trojan Horseshoe or Shaka Zulu woulld've won. This was a quality win with a pretty difficult layout.

I gave it a 6. The objectives were pretty easy, but it was a lengthy layout. Like TRJ said, I doubt a team like Trojan Horseshoe or Shaka Zulu would've won, no matter how many people try to claim otherwise.

Plus, Jennifer and Damian also had the 6th or 7th temple run on the show? It definitely wouldn't be an easy layout for one of the firsts Season 1 teams. The Trojan Horseshoe team may have won (probably would be an Icarus ending), but no way do I see Shaka Zulu team winning.

Yeah, I agree. How people think Bobby is a better player than Jennifer is beyond me. But of course, this is about layouts....

Map to the Lost Gold Mine finishes with a 6.00.

Day Thirty One: The Keys to the Alhambra
Artifact Location - Dungeon
Players - Lisa and Steve
Rooms Entered - 7
Temple Guard Locations - Throne Room, Tomb of the Ancient Kings

Alhambra gets a 7 from. While this layout did not look hard at all, the faulty door in the Tomb of the Ancient Kings makes it a really confusing layout. Did the door to the Shrine really open from the Ancient Kings? If it did, then this layout would've been really easy. But when Lisa enters the room, all of the doors in the room were open? I think Lisa was suppose to go up, but she hit a production error instead. That being said, she should NOT have run around like a moron and instead try a different route like the Belshazzar team did. They lost because of her stupidity.

I gave this layout a 5. Not a hard layout at all, Lisa was just too stupid to make any decent progress.

Alhambra finishes with a 5.67.

Next up is the fastest loss ever.

Day Thirty Two: Elizabeth I's Golden Ship
Artifact Location - Throne Room
Players - Gabby and Joe
Rooms Entered - 4
Temple Guard Locations - Cave of Sighs, Heart Room, Room of the Golden Idols

I gave the Golden Ship layout a 7. I always felt that the temple guard placement in this run was unfair. While Gabby and Joe should not have taken a direct path, they were from early Season 1 and didn't know better. Three temple guards in four rooms? That was pretty cheap. Not to mention, their half-pendant was no where in sight. Even though they were slow as a rock, this layout was unfair for the temple guard placement and the no where to be found half-pendant. They had to be really luck with their path to avoid one of the guards. I would probably give Gabby and Joe a second chance in the temple due to this layout.

Agreed. I also gave them a 5 for the same reasons, although the doors opening the way they did never should've happened and I can understand the confusion on Lisa's part. That's no excuse for what she did the rest of the run though.

As for Golden Ship, I gave this one a 6. Bottom of the column runs are almost never easy and this one is no exception. If Joe had started in the top starting room instead and that room gave instant access to the pit, then this could've been a winnable layout. However, where was the half pendant? That alone could easily up a score. I was tempted to give it a 7 on that alone, but I'll stick with 6. This team could've moved a lot faster.

Imagine if a team like Robbie and Tina had this layout and ended in triple capture? They would've finished with 2:30 left on the clock. But yeah, Joe really should've known that it would've been way too easy to reach the Throne Room from the Wall Climb. If he started in the Gargoyle Room, then at least this team would've had a chance to use all their time. They still would've lost though because neither was fast. To this day I still wonder where that half-pendant was...

I gave this layout a 6. Really not that hard of a layout at all, just bad luck with the temple guard placement.

Golden Ship finishes with a 6.33.

Next up is another pretty bad triple capture.

Day Thirty Three: The Sacred Ring of Sultan Suleiman
Artifact Location - Dark Forest
Players - Brian and Gracelyn
Rooms Entered - 6
Temple Guard Locations - Ledges, Observatory, Medusa's Lair
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 33: The Sacred Ring of Sultan Suleiman

I gave Sultan Suleiman a 7. While the Purple Parrots were at fault for losing, the layout seemed very unusual. The King's Storeroom being a deadend was a bit unusual and was pretty time consuming. So even if Brian and Gracelyn did not waste time in certain rooms, their layout was a little crazy. Although the triple capture was totally their fault.

Sultan Suleiman finishes with a 7.

Now it is time for another triple capture, but with one pendant this time.  :P

Day Thirty Four: The Useless Map of the Chibcha Chieftain
Artifact Location - Dark Forest
Players - Hallie and Jared
Rooms Entered - 5
Temple Guard Locations - Crypt, Tomb of the Headless Kings, King's Storeroom

Useless Map gets a 7 from me. I don't know, I always felt that this layout was kind of cheap. With one pendant, all that Hallie and Jared could've done was avoid a temple guard. It was unfortunate they met the one in the Crypt. It would've made more sense if he was in the Ledges since that would've been a direct path. Plus, most of the paths to a Dark Forest artifact were tough. I really don't hold the triple capture against these two.

I gave this layout an 8. I thought this layout was extremely difficult and cheap, temple guard placement wise. While it would've helped if Hallie had entered the King's Storeroom instead of the Tomb, the temple guard placement was just too much. Especially since Hallie and Jared only had one pendant. Just an unlucky layout all around.

The sucky part about one pendant teams was that they had to avoid at least one guard in the temple. At least with 1.5 pendant teams, they had a chance to redeem themselves and avoid triple capture by finding their other half. Not that it was an easier because they are either non-existent (like in Season 1) or had some real tricky hiding places (Missing Eye). But still, I am surprised we never had more triple captures from 1 Pendant teams except for Useless Map and Kamehameha. It was bad luck that Hallie and Jared encountered all three guards in 5 rooms. Unlike Robbie and Tina, this team didn't bring it onto themselves.

Unless you count them "taking a direct path." What a shame too, it could've been a solo victory (which I also highly doubt by the way), but Hallie decided to blow it by taking a direct path. [/n00b logic]

It could've been solo victory if the Ledges opened to the Pit of the Pendulum. I think it would've worked in the Useless Map run, but then again there is runs where the team was forced into the Crypt from the Ledges with a temple guard. Like Nathan Hale. But yeah, Hallie was a horrible player for taking a direct path. Even though she had no idea where the temple guards were at.

I say we can end this one a little early since I am going to be really busy later. Useless Map ends with a 7.67 score.

Next up is Robbie, Tina, and the straggling Dungeon guard from Kamehameha.  :mrsilver:

Day Thirty Five: The Pendant of Kamehameha
Artifact Location - Spider's Lair
Players - Robbie and Tina
Rooms Entered - 11
Temple Guard Locations - Throne Room, Heart Room, and Dungeon
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Layout - Day 35: The Pendant of Kamehameha
Post by: The Red Jaguars on February 07, 2014, 02:40:20 PM
I gave Kamehameha an 8. I know that Robbie and Tina brought the triple capture onto themselves, but this layout always seemed tough to me. The path was really long for them, and most Season 1 players took a direct path in the temple. I know there was a shorter route through the Observatory, but most of the Season 1 contestants didn't know better about the direct path. I always thought the Dungeon guard was cheap too. It was so deep in the temple that even if Robbie and Tina didn't go into the Throne Room, they might've been removed in the Dungeon instead. Plus, there was no real shortcuts like the Shrine-Tomb passage either. Even though the Silver Snakes would've won if it didn't end in triple capture, this layout was pretty long and most of the other Season 1 teams wouldn't come close. It was only because they were a fast team that they almost one. But the long layout and unusual temple guard placement gives this run a high score.

I also gave this layout an 8, for same reasons as TRJ. It's funny how for two runs in a row, it was a triple capture with one pendant.

That and the path that was taken was almost identical (excluding Tina's detour into the Room of the Three Gargoyles). The path itself felt identical to Useless Map, except the artifacts were in slightly different locations. Even though the rooms in this run were much easier, I also gave it an 8, just like I did with Useless Map. Even though the Observatory would've opened from the pit, you can't really fault the team for starting low considering it was an early season 1 run. They really didn't know better. The path was long and the locations of the temple guards was really unfair. Having one pendant didn't help matters.

Yeah, the layout would be long whether Robbie and Tina started in the Observatory or not. Even if Robbie started in the Observatory, it still would've been an 8 room trek to the Spider's Lair. So it wasn't that easy even with the solo chance. I also agree with you about the direct path. Most of the Season 1 players didn't know better. It doesn't bug me as much as Golden Ship where it was way too obvious that the Throne Room would not open. It would've been better if Robbie and Tina won their team game and enter the temple with two pendants.
