Title: Rate the Bottom of the Central Shaft Run - Day 8: Priceless Portrait
Post by: The Red Jaguars on July 30, 2013, 12:33:38 AM
Since these rating threads have been getting a lot of attention, I wanted to try and make another. This time we will be rating all of the "Bottom of the Central Shaft" runs. The bottom of the central shaft was the only room space that did not feature a temple victory. A few teams came close, but no one has ever been victorious. In this rating thread, we will rate all of the bottom of the central shaft runs. The good part is that there are only 7 bottom of the central shaft runs, so this one will be quick.

When rating each of these temple runs, try comparing them to the other bottom of the central shaft runs only. Since those are the temple runs were are comparing in this topic. The polls will last 24 hours as usual and posting your feedback is not required, although it usually makes a good read when everyone posts their opinion. Here is the schedule also:

Previous Results:
Day One - The Red Sash of Tokugawa Ieyasu - 7.88 (8 votes)
Day Two - The Lucky Pig of Amelia Earhart - 2.11 (9 votes)
Day Three - The Smashed Printing Plate of Frederick Douglass - 2.13 (8 votes)
Day Four - The Electrified Key of Benjamin Franklin - 6.00 (8 votes)
Day Five - The Good-Luck Watch of Empress Eugenie - 7.33 (9 votes)
Day Six - Elizabeth I's Golden Ship - 3.81 (7 votes)
Day Seven - The Royal Torque of Queen Boadicea - 9.00 (7 votes)
Day Eight - The Priceless Portrait of the Polynesian Girl - 8.11 (9 votes)

Featured Episode - "The Priceless Portrait of the Polynesian Girl"
Team - Jim and Kristen
Pendants - 1.5
Temple Guards - Crypt, Room of the Mandarin Hand, Observatory
Outcome - Reached artifact, but failed to escape with it

Post by: The Red Jaguars on July 30, 2013, 12:36:00 AM
I gave the Red Sash team a 8. Brandy and Quentin put up a strong performance in the temple and entered almost every room of the temple. They even managed to reach the Tomb of the Headless Kings, but time ran out as they just entered the room. Compared to most bottom of the central shaft runs, this one was really good. It just wasn't as exciting as a couple of them though. Plus, Brandy and Quentin were a little too hesitant and they completed unnecessary objectives too. But still, they were a good team and would've won had the Shrine shortcut opened. I just find a couple of the other bottom of the central runs slightly better.

I also gave them an 8. Brandy and Quentin were a good team. Though they would've won if they didn't make all those mistakes or hesitate too much.

I gave the Red Sash team a 7. As I've mentioned in previous runs, there were many quirks to this run, including the late guards, Quentin's early entry into the temple, and Olmec's eyes glowing during the run. Now to the run itself: Brandy had the ability to either bypass assembling the Silver Monkey or the Secret Password, but instead decided to complete both rooms. That ate up more time than necessary, and ultimately affected the outcome of the run. Quentin followed up on Brandy's path a little slowly, and did not pick up the pace until he reached the bottom floor. Although he was lucky that the Jesters' Court activated quickly, Quentin failed to reach the Red Sash in the final seconds of the run because of his earlier lack of urgency. Brandy left him enough time to reach the Tomb of the Headless Kings, and had she not spent the time in the Shrine, there may have even been enough time for a victory as well.

I give Brandy and Quentin an 8.  While they made it harder on themselves by completing an extra room, looking at objectively and considering how difficult the run was, they still actually did really well to almost get the sash.

I say an 8. Good run, but brandy and Quentin made a couple of mistakes that cost them. It was one of those so close, yet so far runs. Didn't this legend feature a line from tokugawas enemy that went like "I'm grounded for three weeks without tv" or something like that?

I'll give these guys an 8. They were good, but they made mistakes that cost them in the long run. And yeah, that legend did feature a really stupid line.

Hello LoL, it's been a while since we have seen you post here. Welcome back.  :mrblue:

And yeah, the Red Sash legend featured a line where Tokugawa's enemy warlord was about to be punished, and he thought that he was going to be "Grounded for two weeks with no TV." Probably the lamest line in any legend featured on the show.

With 8 votes, I think we can move onto our next bottom of the central shaft run. Red Sash finishes with a 7.88.

The next run we will cover is "The Lucky Pig of Amelia Earhart".
Title: Re: Rate the Bottom of the Central Shaft Run - Day 2: Lucky Pig
Post by: The Red Jaguars on July 30, 2013, 05:11:49 PM
I gave Amelia Earhart a 2. This was an awful and painful temple run to watch. Kristen was a horrible, clueless, and very slow player. She struggled in every room she entered and got lost in some of the easiest rooms of the temple. She did not even belong in the temple the first place. I was so close to giving this run a 1. But two reasons why I didn't give it was because 1.) The temple guard layout was bad luck and the temple layout was brutal and 2.) Scott and Kirk's enthusiasm made this run sort of redeemable. But still, Kristen was a bad player and Jim Scott never got a chance to enter at all. He would've done MUCH better than Kristen.

Post by: PurpleParrot4Life on July 30, 2013, 07:01:49 PM
I gave Lucky Pig a 3. The path was long, and the temple guard placement was pretty cruel. Kristen may have walked through the whole temple and gotten lost in the Dungeon, but in the Season 1 temple, the room objectives were not so elaborate that you had to fly through everything to get far into the temple (as Kristen proved).

I'm one of the four that gave this team a 2. It's nothing against Scott. I feel terrible that he had to put up with Kristen. That girl was just terrible!

And Amelia Earhart finishes with a lowly 2.11. Thank you Kristen.

The bottom of the central shaft run will be "The Smashed Printing Plate of Frederick Douglass".
Title: Re: Rate the Bottom of the Central Shaft Run - Day 3: Smashed Printing Plate
Post by: The Red Jaguars on July 31, 2013, 12:23:28 PM
I gave Smashed Printing Plate a 1. This is one of the most annoying temple runs on the show. I actually hate this run more than "Amelia Earhart", even though Jason and Dana made it far in the temple. They were such an incompetent. Jason was slow, clueless, and kept backtracking between the Room of the Ancient Warriors. Plus, he missed the Shrine shortcut. I could see why Dana was shouting at him at times. But that doesn't excuse her pathetic progress in her short temple time either. She used the wrong door in the Ledges and didn't get past the Pit. Overall, Jason and Dana were a pathetic team and this temple run was extremely annoying. I hate it.

I thought this run was slightly better than Lucky Pig (which I gave a 2), so I gave Frederick Douglass a 3. Jason actually did okay in the Chamber and Shrine, but the rest of the run sucked so badly.

I gave the Smashed Printing Press/Plate of Frederick Douglass a 2. At least Jason was able to complete his room objectives decently, save the Room of the Ancient Warriors.

And Frederick Douglass ends with a score of 2.13. I also added Polynesian Girl to the list too since I have seem to forgot about it. It will be the last run we will cover.  ;)

Otherwise, next one up is "The Electrified Key of Benjamin Franklin".
Title: Re: Rate the Bottom of the Central Shaft Run - Day 4: Electrified Key
Post by: The Red Jaguars on August 01, 2013, 11:48:46 AM
I gave Benjamin Franklin a 6. Michelle and Peter weren't a bad team, but they made a few mistakes. Peter tried way too hard to beeline for the direct path. Because of this decision, he missed an opportunity at a solo win. Michelle was kind of hesitant herself and almost pulled a "Harriet Tubman". She also missed the Shrine-Dark Forest shortcut too. In the end, they finished one room away from a bottom of the central shaft artifact. But these two really should've won, especially since they had a solo opportunity.

I gave them a 5. I'm not a big fan of this run. This run should've been a win, but both players blew it. They weren't bad, but their mistakes during the run makes me want to rage.

Post by: PurpleParrot4Life on August 01, 2013, 05:30:31 PM
I gave the Electrified Key team a 7. They moved pretty swiftly through the temple and nearly got to the artifact, despite taking a long route. Yes, there were a few "mistakes" that they could have avoided, and Peter had the potential for a solo victory, but even so, they did well. Michelle's decision to descend into the Mineshaft instead of the Dark Forest only ate up about 2 seconds, which would not have been enough time to reach the Key anyway.

Benjamin Franklin wasn't really a bad temple run in my eyes, just a disappointing one. I sort of find it pretty exciting to watch also. The only reason why I don't think it is a bad temple run because at least Peter and Michelle moved at a decent pace throughout the temple. If they were like an incompetent team like Jason and Dana, I would rank it closer. But these guys weren't too bad, they just had a bad strategy. With that in mind, this run ends with an even 6.00.

The next bottom of the central shaft run will be "The Good-Luck Watch of Empress Eugenie".
Title: Re: Rate the Bottom of the Central Shaft Run - Day 5: Good-Luck Watch
Post by: The Red Jaguars on August 02, 2013, 11:01:32 AM
Empress Eugenie gets a 7 from me. I find this temple run to be very exciting, but Janeen brings this run down though. She shouldn't have been a frontrunner in the first place. I don't even know if they would've won if she was the second player. There is no reason to hesitate on every objective in the temple and move that slow. Jay was awesome though and he was just as good as Zac and Jarrid speed-wise. He got an unlucky break in the Jester's Court though also (which I don't hold against him). He reached the Good-Luck Watch, but that was the best he could do with such little time. I wanted to give this run a higher score, but this team really should've won. When you watch the other runs like Queen Boadicea and Red Sash, those teams had harder layouts and came closer then Janeen and Jay. It was all Janeen's fault at the end of the day, which is why I gave it a 7. But it was still very exciting though.

I gave them an 8. Even though Janeen was super hesitant and scared, Jay saved this run and made it fun to watch. I would've given it a 7, but Jay gives it an extra point for being so awesome. I don't hold the Jesters' Court problem against him as that was probably a production error. Should've been a win, but Jay made this run fun to see.
Title: Re: Rate the Bottom of the Central Shaft Run - Day 5: Good-Luck Watch
Post by: PurpleParrot4Life on August 02, 2013, 09:13:33 PM
I have the Empress Eugenie team an 8 as well. Even though Janeen's incredible hesitancy in the temple ended up being costly to the outcome of the run, her degree of cautiousness and her reaction to the temple guard in the Shrine makes her portion of the run enjoyable. Jay then got to the Shrine in under 30 seconds and cruised to the Jesters' Court. Had that room cooperated, he would have come very close to exiting with the Good-Luck Watch. Overall, I find this run to be very enjoyable because both players were fun to watch, even if they didn't win.

Yup, he groped a little feel while she was trying to hand him her pendant. A temple guard in the same room space in the "Polynesian Girl" run did the same thing to Kristen too. And that was a bottom of the central shaft run too that we will cover last. :P

For me Good Luck Watch gets a 7. Jay was fast, but Janeen didn't give it any will to a victory, at least he could grab the Watch. Otherwise, when entering the Shrine she already assumed there was a temple guard in there. Her pose says it all.
I think she got scared from the beginning, after the skeletons shouted at her, but anyway, nice run to see once and again

Empress Eugenie ends with a 7.33 score.

Next bottom of the central shaft run will be "Elizabeth I's Golden Ship".
Title: Re: Rate the Bottom of the Central Shaft Run - Day 6: Golden Ship
Post by: The Red Jaguars on August 03, 2013, 11:46:52 AM
I gave the Golden Ship a 4. While this was the quickest loss on the show and the players moved through 4 rooms, you can't really blame the final outcome on Gabby and Joe. The temple guard placement was a little unfair and the half-pendant was very obscure also. On the downside though, this team was too slow to begin with. They should've had 2:00+ on the clock by the time of their capture. But had they used their remaining time of 1:30+, then they would've at least made decent progress. I think they would've made it one room away at best. And the Red Jaguars weren't a clueless team, just a slow one. Which is why I didn't give Gabby and Joe a really low score.
Title: Re: Rate the Bottom of the Central Shaft Run - Day 6: Golden Ship
Post by: PurpleParrot4Life on August 03, 2013, 12:35:31 PM
I gave the Golden Ship team a 3. The guards were stockpiled toward the outside of the temple and the half pendant was obscured, but the team should have had a lot more time left on the clock when the run ended.

I have a baseball game that I will be going again early tomorrow and I will have to work also. I think I am going to end Golden Ship's time here with 7 votes. If anyone wants to still vote for this run, just post the rating you want to give it and I will adjust the score. With that being said, Golden Ship gets a 3.71 score.

Next temple run will be "The Royal Torque of Queen Boadicea".
Title: Re: Rate the Bottom of the Central Shaft Run - Day 7: Royal Torque
Post by: The Red Jaguars on August 03, 2013, 08:50:00 PM
There is no doubt that in my mind that Queen Boadicea is the best bottom of the central shaft temple run. This team had a pretty tough layout and they were the closest to pulling off a bottom of the central shaft win. The temple loss was very exciting and is probably one of the top 5 losses on the show. The team didn't really win though thanks to Lissy. She hesitated in the Crypt and stalled too much in the Pit and Chamber of the Sacred Markers. Nate was an amazing second runner though and he even reached the Royal Torque with 15 seconds left. This is especially good considering Lissy only left him with 2:00 minutes after only completing 3 rooms. He was also smart for taking the high road out of the temple too. If only Lissy didn't stall at the beginning, the Red Jaguars would've won. I gave this run a 9 on account that they were a very good team in the temple and the whole temple run is very exciting. While I do like "Polynesian Girl" slightly better, Boadicea is the better one all around when it comes to team performance. So I gave it a 9.  :mrred:
Title: Re: Rate the Bottom of the Central Shaft Run - Day 7: Royal Torque

I personally gave Queen Boadicea a 9. It was a great bottom central shaft run, but I just don't feel like it should get a perfect "10." Plus, Lissy moved pretty slow, Nate was a great player though.
Title: Re: Rate the Bottom of the Central Shaft Run - Day 7: Royal Torque
Post by: Legend of Legends on August 03, 2013, 08:59:56 PM
I gave it a 9. If it weren't for Lissy, this run could've been an amazing win.
Title: Re: Rate the Bottom of the Central Shaft Run - Day 7: Royal Torque
Post by: The Red Jaguars on August 03, 2013, 09:00:08 PM
I was about to give them a 9 too, but it was my bias towards my favorite team is why I gave them a 10.  :P  But Lissy does bring this run down. If she didn't stall as much as the beginning, they would've won.

I will admit that I like Priceless Portrait slightly better than Boadicea since that one was a little more exciting and memorable. Only the Silver Snakes really should've won in that one.  :o

EDIT: I actually changed it to a 9 too. Looking back now, it should not take a whole minute to enter your third room. Still a good run, but Lissy is the reason for the point deduction.
Title: Re: Rate the Bottom of the Central Shaft Run - Day 7: Royal Torque
Post by: PurpleParrot4Life on August 03, 2013, 09:39:48 PM
Once again, Lissy did not enter her third room at the two-minute mark; she finished it. The guard did not capture her until the Chamber of the Sacred Markers was completed. It took the average S3 contestant one minute to complete the first room of the central shaft, so she was completely on track for time. I personally don't think that Lissy "stalled," especially in the Pit.

That being said, I agree that Nate had a very strong performance in the temple. He moved swiftly through the temple and completed his objectives well.

Overall, I gave this run a 9 because it was the strongest "Bottom of the Central Shaft" run. I like the Royal Torque run better than Polynesian Girl because the Polynesian Girl team had a very high possibility of scoring a victory, but the long delay in the Pit/Mandarin Hand/Observatory ruined that chance. At least with Royal Torque, the team continued to move forward and did not dawdle around at all.

Title: Re: Rate the Bottom of the Central Shaft Run - Day 8: Priceless Portrait
Post by: The Red Jaguars on August 04, 2013, 05:46:36 PM
I gave the Polynesian Girl run the same score I gave to Boadicea - a 9. While the Boadicea team was slightly better, I actually like the Polynesian Girl slightly better overall. This is actually my favorite bottom of the central shaft run because of how exciting and memorable it was. Scott Jim the Mechanic moved very fast in his short time in the temple. Kristen took over, but she hesitated too much at the beginning of the run. But at least she found her piece of the half-pendant. Once she got on the bottom floor though, she really picked up the pace and the ending was a nail biter. Had she not stalled at the beginning of the run, this Silver Snakes team would've won. Overall, this run is very exciting and memorable from the down to the wire artifact grab to Kristen being an artist and being the one to grab the Priceless Portrait. This was a great way to end S2, it would've been even better if Jim and Kristen actually won.  :mrsilver:

I personally gave this run a 7. It was a good loss, but it could've been better. By better, I mean it could've been a great win. Jim got unlucky with that Crypt temple guard. If anything, that guard should've been in the Ledges for the direct path trick. However, Kristin was too slow at the start. It was a good thing she got the half pendant, but she took too much time finding it after entering the Mandarin Hand. The rooms she completed before the Silver Monkey, she completed them a little slowly. It was with the Silver Monkey where she picked up the pace, but it was too little, too late. I still think this was a good loss, but not as good as some folks make it out to be.

I gave them a 9. It was a very exciting temple run, despite all the mistakes made. Though Jim really should've gone in second.

Wow, 9 votes! Can we get 10 please? :o

I feel almost lonely that I voted for 7. Who else gave them a 7? I'm curious. :P

Yup, I kept the "View Votes" button active the whole time. So you can actually see who gave what rating to each run. It was very nice to see also a lot of people vote in this particular polls. The polls in the past usually got 5 at most, but I think the fewest votes this poll got was 7 for a couple of episodes. I am not complaining either, because that is what makes these rating threads fun.

On that note, we are finally done! Polynesian Girl ends with an 8.11.

Here are the final results:

1. The Royal Torque of Queen Boadicea - 9.00 (7 votes)
2. The Priceless Portrait of the Polynesian Girl - 8.11 (9 votes)
3. The Red Sash of Tokugawa Ieyasu - 7.88 (8 votes)
4. The Good-Luck Watch of Empress Eugenie - 7.33 (9 votes)
5. The Electrified Key of Benjamin Franklin - 6.00 (8 votes)
6. Elizabeth I's Golden Ship - 3.81 (7 votes)
7. The Smashed Printing Plate of Frederick Douglass - 2.13 (8 votes)
8. The Lucky Pig of Amelia Earhart - 2.11 (9 votes)

For the most part, these temple runs ranked very well. The top 4 temple runs were some of the best on the show and I agree with rankings for all these episodes. Thanks for everyone taking the time to vote!   :mrblue:  :mrorange:  :mrpurple:  :mrred:  :mrsilver:

Personally, I think Good-Luck Watch should've finished 2nd of those 8. Maybe put Polynesian Girl in 4th. Other than that, good list.

I wouldn't have mind if Empress Eugenie finished ahead of Red Sash at least. But Janeen kind of ruins it though. But Jay was also a really good player too. I am glad that Polynesian Girl finished that high. It was very exciting and memorable to me. Probably because it was the first time a team reached a bottom of the central shaft artifact.  :mrsilver:

You're welcome TRJ  :D

Well, IMO there are no objections at all for the ranking BUT...
I think Empress Eugenie had it all to make a podium, but Janeen's screw up was too evident. And not only am I saying this because I'm a Green Monkeys fan, but also 'cos I've seen lots of times that episode.

Also, look at the bottom 3. There is a huge gap between #5 and #6. What does it mean? Maybe there were no mediocre Bottom of the Central Shaft runs, they were bad, good or quite good

Out of all the temple runs on this list, the Empress Eugenie team should've been the ones that won it all. If you watch the temple run, the layout was very favorable towards the Green Monkeys. The Quicksand Bog and Secret Password were locked, and the Chamber door did not open from the Pit. So there was no straying path for them. Janeen was the one that ruined everything though. She was way too hesitant to go in first. You could tell Jay was getting pissed off when she stalled on every objective. Jay was awesome though. He made it all the way to the Tomb of the Headless Kings, with a production error in the Jester's Court, in 1:30. If the Red Sash or Queen Boadicea team had this layout, they would've won easily.

I guess you could argue the Electrified Key team should've won too. They had a solo opportunity, but Peter blew it. But compared to the run above, they had some tricks in their layout like Medusa's Lair opening and the Mine Shaft opening too.

And yeah, the bottom 3 runs ranked very low too. But I don't mind the Golden Ship run at all actually. Gabby and Joe were very slow, but the team doesn't bother me that much. If they used their remaining 1:30, they would've finished one room away probably. So in the end, this run would've probably got a 5 at most. But Smashed Printing Plate and Amelia Earhart is pure garbage. Especially Kristen.
