Title: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: PurpleParrot4Life on December 27, 2012, 02:47:50 PM
I thought I'd take some inspiration from TRJ and try to make a "Rate by Poll" thread. This poll is about Temple Guard Encounters, and hopefully we'll end up finding which episodes featured the runs with the best temple guard encounters. I hope that people are interested in participating and that all goes well.

For this poll, we'll go episode by episode, ranking the temple guard encounters of each run. All polls will be on a 1-5 scale, with 5 being very funny/memorable (or whatever other factors influence your perception of a "good temple guard encounter") and 1 being not funny/memorable at all. The poll will (hopefully) be updated every day with a new episode. I'll average each day's poll when the poll ends, and I'll post a running tally of the results below.

PREVIOUS EPISODE RATINGS
Blackbeard's Treasure Map: 2.75
Golden Cup of Belshazzar: 2.00
Galileo's Cannonball: 3.25
Wild Bill Hickok and the Dead Man's Hand: 2.67
John Henry's Lost Hammer: 4.00
Golden Cricket Cage of Khan: 3.50
Elizabeth I's Golden Ship: 2.25
John Sutter and the Map to the Lost Gold Mine: 3.20
Star of Sultan Saladin: 4.25
Keys to the Alhambra: 2.25
Helmet of Genghis Khan: 3.00

TODAY'S EPISODE TO RATE
The Trojan Horseshoe
Temple Guard Locations: Heart Room, Shrine of the Silver Monkey

For starters, let's begin with what some people credit as the very first temple run ever, Blackbeard's Treasure Map.

Episode: Blackbeard's Treasure Map
Temple Guard Locations: Cave of Sighs

I gave this encounter a 3. Even though there was only one temple guard and it was not extremely memorable, I think that the way Sabrina reacted was pretty funny. She jumped, dropped her pendant on the floor, stood there for a second, and then picked up the pendant and gave it to the guard before continuing on.

I gave it a 3. There wasn't much to the temple guard encounter, but it wasn't the absolute worst one.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters

I said 3 also. It was just your average Temple Guard encounter.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters

I gave it a score of a 2. When you think of this temple run, you don't really think much of that lone temple guard. But it was still a more memorable scare than other season one temple guards.  :P

Sorry for the slight delay, everyone! We now have made it to Day Two! Blackbeard's Treasure Map got a rating of 2.75, so now we will be moving on.

This time we will be looking at "Golden Cup of Belshazzar." The temple guards were found in the Cave of Sighs and the Treasure Room.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters

I gave the encounter(s) a 2. There was nothing special about either temple guard appearance.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters

I gave the Belshazzar temple guard encounters a 2 also. I kind of remember Katherine running around the Treasure Chest in order to go to the Treasure Room guard, but that was about it.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters

Golden Cup of Belshazzar ended with a score of 2.00.

Next up with be Galileo's Cannonball, once the poll is opened back up. The temple guard encounters in this episode were in the Throne Room and Shrine of the Silver Monkey.

Poll has been fixed. Like I said in the "Rate the artifact grab" thread, type in "1" (as in 1 day) for the keep poll open part. Otherwise, you'll get a -1 and nobody will be able to vote. ;)

I don't believe I have that option, even in the "Edit Poll" screen.

I gave the Galileo's Cannonball run a rating of a 3. The temple guard encounters in this episode were average. Although the Shrine of the Silver Monkey encounter wasn't particularly memorable, it was funny when Jennifer tried to go out of the temple with the temple guard via the temple guard's door in the Throne Room.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on January 01, 2013, 02:49:54 AM
I also gave it a 3. The Throne Room guard was somewhat memorable, what with having to show Jennifer the way out. But the Shrine guard that removed Jennifer from the temple was nothing special.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: The Red Jaguars on January 01, 2013, 11:02:29 AM
I gave the Galileo's Cannonball guards a score of a 4. Mostly due to the Throne Room guard being very memorable and a lot of people remember that one for telling Jennifer to go up. So since it sticks out so much, I gave it a higher score. :P
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: PurpleParrot4Life on January 02, 2013, 06:11:04 PM
Galileo's Cannonball got a score of 3.25, the highest of the episodes thus far. Next up will be "Wild Bill Hickok and the Dead Man's Hand," which featured guards in the Cave of Sighs, Heart Room, and Swamp.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: PurpleParrot4Life on January 02, 2013, 10:44:09 PM
I gave the "Dead Man's Hand" a 4. Although I don't find this episode's temple guards extremely memorable, I found them to be very funny upon re-watching the run. The Cave of Sighs guard surprised Joshua, and he fell into a sitting position. His reaction to the Heart Room guard was also pretty good. Then, Sara's encounter in the Swamp was pretty cool because after she gave the guard the pendant, he lifelessly flung himself back into the Styrofoam blocks.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters

I don't know, I gave the temple guards a score of a 2. This run is already forgettable and when I do remember it, I don't think about the temple guards. I do remember the temple guard in the Swamp vaguely. But other than that, the guards and the whole run is forgettable.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on January 03, 2013, 01:04:35 AM
I also give it a 2. There was very little memorable about this capture, since this run was mostly forgettable.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: PurpleParrot4Life on January 04, 2013, 12:12:45 AM
Wild Bill Hickok and the Dead Man's Hand ended with an average of 2.67. Next up will be John Henry's Lost Hammer, which had guards in the Heart Room and Throne Room.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on January 04, 2013, 12:24:33 AM
I give it a 4. For the Heart Room temple guard that was delayed to end Kim's pathetic attempt at pressing buttons sooner. The Throne Room guard wasn't very memorable, but the Heart Room guard was pretty funny emerging late.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: The Red Jaguars on January 04, 2013, 01:47:03 AM
I also gave the Lost Hammer temple guards a 4. That Heart Room guard definitely sticks out when thinking about this run. It took him a while to enter the room, and when he captures Kim, he leaves abruptly too. He didn't jump out at her like they usually do. It had to be a mercy guard.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters

First off, I'd like to thank the mods for continuously opening the poll back up for each new day. I really appreciate it.

I, too, gave the Lost Hammer a 4 because the Heart Room guard was very memorable. I doubt that this guard was originally stationed to be there. Either this guard or the guard in the Shrine during the "Mary Shelley" run had to have been the most delayed guard of the entire show.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: PurpleParrot4Life on January 05, 2013, 10:51:32 AM
John Henry's Lost Hammer finished with an even 4.00.

Next up will be Golden Cricket Cage of Khan, which featured guards in the Throne Room and Heart Room.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on January 05, 2013, 03:58:16 PM
This temple guard encounter gets a 2. Even for this pitiful temple run, neither temple guard was memorable.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: PurpleParrot4Life on January 05, 2013, 04:09:04 PM
I gave "Cricket Cage" a 3. I found Jon's reactions to the temple guards funny. This run was an abomination, but the temple guard encounters are the one aspect of this run that are tolerable.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: PurpleParrot319 on January 05, 2013, 04:11:09 PM
I give these encounters a 5! They're responsible for removing the abomination that is John from the temple. :D

Then came in Tia.

That has to be the funniest, yet most truthful, thing I've ever heard! I agree wholeheartedly!
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters

I gave the Golden Cricket Cage guards a 3. This run is more memorable for the bad players than the temple guards. Its not like the temple guards were mercy killers either like in the "Lost Hammer" run. Although it was nice to see John removed from the temple, but then came in Tia.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters

Also, didn't the second temple guard cackle at John? You can hear it while Tia is entering the temple. If that is the case, I might change my vote.

Yeah, there was a very brief, deep laugh.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters

That's what I thought. With that temple guards laugh (which seemed to happen quite a bit in Season 1), I've changed my vote to a 3.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters

I cut the time short for Golden Cricket Cage of Khan, which ended with a score of 3.50. Next up is Elizabeth I's Golden Ship, which had guards in the Cave of Sighs, Heart Room, and Room of the Golden Idols. Please let me know if the poll closes before you get a chance to vote.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: PurpleParrot4Life on January 06, 2013, 01:31:00 PM
I gave the "Golden Ship" encounters a 2. Even though this run was memorable for being a quick triple capture, none of the encounters were memorable in and of themselves.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on January 06, 2013, 03:32:27 PM
Yeah, I gave it a 2 as well. This run may have been the quickest loss, the captures were just average.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: The Red Jaguars on January 06, 2013, 11:27:13 PM
For some reason, it didn't let me vote at all. But I am going to give it a 3 though because I do remember a couple of the temple guard encounters since I have watched this run many times trying to find that half-pendant. I remember the Heart Room guard taking Josh out while he was on his way into the Room of the Golden Idols. And I remember the "Oh dammit" gesture Gabby gave when the Golden Idols guard came out.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters

I've fixed the poll so the poll closed date expires tomorrow instead of earlier today. ;)
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: PurpleParrot4Life on January 07, 2013, 10:03:52 AM
Elizabeth I's Golden Ship scored a 2.25.

Next up is John Sutter and the Map to the Lost Goldmine. The three guards were in the Cave of Sighs, Throne Room, and Room of the Golden Idols. The poll is not set to close until 12:30 am, so that should be a good amount of time for everyone to cast their vote for this episode.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: PurpleParrot4Life on January 07, 2013, 10:15:11 AM
I gave the Map to the Lost Goldmine a 3. All three of the encounters were average, typical encounters. Jennifer's short scream in the Room of the Golden Idols is a little memorable. However, this run is more memorable for the victory and Jennifer's slip at the final gate.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: The Red Jaguars on January 07, 2013, 01:12:08 PM
I actually gave the Map to the Lost Gold Mine guards a 4. I remember the over-the-top laugh from the temple guard in the Throne Room when he was taking out David.  Seriously, you could still hear the temple guard laugh when Jennifer enters the temple. I also remember the guard in the Golden Idols startling Jennifer. Since these two stick out for me, especially the hysterical temple guard, I am giving it a 4.  :mrblue:
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on January 07, 2013, 03:35:38 PM
Damian, not David. ;)

I gave it a 3. It was an average encounter, though I did like the high pitched laughs from one of the temple guards.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: GreenMonkeys#1 on January 07, 2013, 05:20:11 PM
I say 3. You know I always though those Temple Guard Laughs were sound effected when a player was taken from the Temple in Season 1. But there was nothing memorable about the guards in this one.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: PurpleParrot4Life on January 07, 2013, 11:51:39 PM
John Sutter and the Map to the Lost Goldmine earned an average score of 3.20.

Next up will be Star of Sultan Saladin, which featured its only guard in the Tomb of Ancient Kings.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: PurpleParrot4Life on January 08, 2013, 10:18:18 AM
I gave the "Sultan Saladin" run a 5. Even though only one guard was encountered, I find it very memorable. One of the defining moments of this run for me was when the temple guard burst through the golden door and Leah flinched. It was also funny to see the unencountered guard crouching in the corner of the Cave of Sighs during Leah's exit.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on January 08, 2013, 03:54:34 PM
I gave it a 3, just for the unencountered temple guard in the Cave. Other than that, the real temple guard encounter wasn't that memorable.

Say what? :o

I gave it a 5 as well! The Tomb of the Ancient Kings guard was very memorable because it scared Lea right on top of the sarcophagus. I thought that was funny. Then came the Cave of Sighs guard. Even though he was encountered after the Star was grabbed, I thought it was hilarious seeing him stare at Lea knowing he couldn't do anything about her. Needless to say, that temple guard got pwned!
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters

I gave the Sultan Saladin guard a 4. I also remember the moment in the Tomb of the Ancient Kings where the temple guard startled Leah so bad that she almost fell to the ground. I also remember the weird Cave of Sighs guard that never "disappeared" either.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: PurpleParrot4Life on January 08, 2013, 11:24:41 PM
The "Star of Sultan Saladin" run finished with an average score of 4.25, the highest average yet. Next up will be the "Keys to the Alhambra."
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: The Red Jaguars on January 09, 2013, 11:43:31 AM
I gave the Alhambra guards a 2. Nothing really memorable about the guards in this run. Steve is so fast that they hardly even have time to capture him. The Tomb of the Ancient Kings was kind of memorable though.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: PurpleParrot4Life on January 09, 2013, 12:08:00 PM
I gave the "Keys to the Alhambra" a 3. The Throne Room guard was not memorable, but I remember the Tomb of Ancient Kings guard capturing Steve as he tried to plow through the stone wall with all his might.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on January 09, 2013, 03:30:48 PM
I gave it a 2, it was just an average encounter.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: GreenMonkeys#1 on January 09, 2013, 10:30:59 PM
This is a 2. The only major moment of a Temple Guard here was how it took Steve to the right door instead of the middle door. I hate this episode more than I hate any other (just barely beats Khan for Worst Episode)
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: PurpleParrot4Life on January 09, 2013, 10:40:49 PM
Keys to the Alhambra got an average score of 2.25.

Next up will be Helmet of Genghis Khan, which saw guards in the Cave of Sighs and Shrine of the Silver Monkey.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on January 09, 2013, 10:56:19 PM
Genghis Khan's temple guard encounter gets a 3. The Cave guard was memorable, since like in Sultan Saladin, we can still see it hiding. But the Shrine guard really wasn't anything special.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: The Red Jaguars on January 09, 2013, 10:58:45 PM
I am going to give Genghis Khan's score a 3 too. I remember both temple guard encounters distinctly also. I also remember how Becca encountered the Cave of Sighs guard and then didn't even try any of the doors from the Cave to the Wall Climb.  :o
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: PurpleParrot4Life on January 10, 2013, 10:45:37 PM
The Helmet of Genghis Khan scored an even 3.00. Next up will be The Trojan Horseshoe, which saw guards in the Heart Room and Shrine.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: The Red Jaguars on January 11, 2013, 12:30:05 AM
I gave the Trojan Horseshoe guards a 1. I don't even remember a single detail about the temple guards in this run. I remember the headdress of the one in the Spider's Lair, and that is it.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on January 11, 2013, 12:43:46 AM
I gave it a 2. I only remembered the temple guard with the evil laugh when Lucretia was taken out. Other than that, the encounters were just average.
Title: Re: Rate the Temple Guard Encounters
Post by: PurpleParrot4Life on January 11, 2013, 09:16:04 AM
I gave the "Trojan Horseshoe" a 2. The guards are not very memorable, although I find Lucretia's reaction- to take a step backward as if to avoid the temple guard by backtracking to the previous room- entertaining.
