Welcome to a new game that I came up with. It's called "Name That Pokemon!". This game is just like "Name That Episode!" for Legends, but this version concerns Pokemon. In this version, the clue giver will give three clues associated with a certain Pokemon. Once someone answers correctly, it is their turn to give three clues. Try not to make it a dead giveaway (it's okay if you do, but try not to make it too easy; challenge is a good thing if done right)! Don't worry, we can use the same Pokemon whenever we'd like.
Here's an example of how the game works. Let's say I give these three clues:
-Yellow and black skin
-Has played a very big part in the franchise's success
-Has appeared in Super Smash Bros games
Now it's your turn to give an answer. If you said Pikachu, you would be correct and it would be your turn. However, if you said something like Electabuzz, you would be wrong. If you guessed wrong, then you must wait until someone else has guessed before giving another answer.
I will start the game in the next post.
-
Olmec, are you ready?
Olmec: "Oh yeah!"
On your mark, get set, go! Here are the clues:
-Purple skin
-Flies
-Had an association with one of the main characters in the anime
-
Hmm...Koffing?
-
Good guess, but it's incorrect.
-
Butterfree?
-
Butterfree?
Correct! :mrpurple:
-It has purple skin
-It can fly
-Was one of Ash's Pokemon before it got released
See what I did there? Purple and can fly! Sounds familiar doesn't it? ;)
Your turn TSM.
-
I figured it had to be either that or Zubat/Golbat/Crobat (which Brock owned). Guess I made the right choice!
-It's pink
-Had a starring role in one of the movies
-The most well-known variation of the Ditto glitch is used to obtain it.
-
It's gotta be Mew
-
Correct!
-
Also, if you can't think of a Pokemon, the clues, or if you just don't feel like going, you can always pass your turn. If you do this, then anyone can go.
-
Oh I got it right? I forgot to look. sorry!
- Yellow when shiny
- Flies
- Also part of a movie
-
Celebi?
-
Nope
-
Lugia?
-
Jirachi?
-
Twice nope!
-
If it gets to the point where you feel an extra hint is needed, then go ahead and give another hint. Personally, I think it's time for another hint.
-
Next incorrect and I will
-
Pidgeot?
-
Nope. Here's another:
- Its ability is Levitate
-
Latias?
-
Latias?
There ya go! A shiny Latias is yellow, it flies, and co starred with Latios in Pokemon Heroes. :3
-
It could also be Misdreavus...
-
It could also be Misdreavus...
Misdreavus is more green then yellow, and since when did it star in a movie?
-
Next Pokemon:
-One of its two abilities is Overgrow
-Ash caught a female version of this Pokemon in the anime
-This Pokemon became very popular on the internet after it was revealed
-
Definitely Snivy.
-
Definitely Snivy.
Definitely correct.
-
Next:
*Can only be obtained by trading
*Doesn't have a tail, but its pre-evolution does
*Japanese name is based off a famous magician
-
Alakazam.
-
Correct.
-
-Psychic type
-Associated with dreams
-Referenced twelve years before its' existence
-
That would be Munna. :P
-
That would be correct. :P
-
All right:
- This Pokémon's evolutionary line has a unique type combination.
- This Pokémon can only be one gender.
- In Johto, you would see this Pokémon used in a Gym before you could catch one for yourself.
-
I'm pretty sure this is wrong.
Miltank?
-
Jynx.
-
TSM got it. Jynx is used by a trainer in the Mahogany Gym, but you need to beat all but the Blackthorn Gym before you can catch your own in the Ice Path.
You're up again, TSM!
-
Pass.
-
I'll try.
It has the same colors throughout the evolution.
The Pokemon involves feelings.
It has two final stages.
-
Ralts?
-
Correct.
-
^.^
- It can evolve two ways
- It has a chance at holding an expensive item
- The only move it learns from leveling up is stat based
-
Clamperl
-
Yupyup
-
This Pokemon has alternate forms.
This Pokemon will make you happy for a while.
This Pokemon is used at a prominent time.
-
Rotom?
-
Nope.
-
Castform?
-
This is probably wrong, but Sunflora?
-
Both wrong.
Hint: Alternate forms are very important.
-
Wait. Eevee?
-
No.
-
Arceus?
-
No.
Hint: Prominent time means this Pokemon appears in an important even in the main story.
-
Giratina?
-
Nope.
Hint: It's not a legendary.
-
Burmy?
-
No.
One more hint: It's a Sinnoh Pokemon. And I don't necessarily mean Gen 4 only.
-
Shellos?
-
No.
Let me explain the clues.
Alternate forms for sunny and overcast.
It becomes happy in the sun and helps your team's power.
Gardenia uses one.
Cherrim!
-
Seriously, that was too hard. :o
-
Seriously, that was too hard. :o
I agree. :|
-
Who goes?
-
How about something easy?
This Pokemon is native to Unova.
It can Fly despite not being Flying type
James Turner drew this.
-
Victini
-
No.
-
Golurk?
-
Correct.
-
That was too har.....okay, I'm an idiot.
Don't reply to that.
-
Hehe...okay, next one:
*Has been spotted with either three, four or five claws on each hand
*Shiny form is green
*Was version-exclusive in Generation II
-
Ursaring?
-
Right.
-
Let's see......
Based off an animal
Has a secondary type when it evolves
Found in caves
-
Drillbur?
-
Yup!
-
-Has multiple forms
-Type combination is different that its' pre-evolution
-It and its' pre-evolution were intended to be released in an earlier generation than it actually was
-
Gastrodon?
-
That is correct!
-
I just took a stab at it...even I mistook Shellos as a pre-evolved Lapras when it was first revealed.
*Was previously one of the smallest Pokemon in existence
*Type is completely different from its evolution
*Was one of the first Pokemon from Generation III revealed to the public
-
Azurill?
-
Correct.
-
Pass.
-
All right, then I'll go:
- It has more than two arms.
- You'll have to face one of these if you battle the Elite Four in earlier games.
- It's one of the few Pokémon that can do super-effective STAB damage on a Spiritomb.
-
Machamp
-
Yup. I was hoping that would've gone a little longer, though...
Your turn!
-
STAB damage was too huge a clue. Anyway......
Used by a leader.
First of its types.
Split the words evenly and the second word is something real fishy.
-
Magikarp?
-
What leader would use Magikarp? -_-
-
Staryu?
-
No
-
Pidgey?
-
No, but I see how it would fit.
Maybe I should be mire specific. It was the first of its type combination.
-
No one can guess it?
-
I honestly have no clue. Venomoth?
-
No.
Hint: I'm being immature about this, because the second part of the name is short form for something fishy. Also, I said leader. Not just gym leader.
-
Okay, okay. Sharpedo.
First Water/Dark type (Fully-evolved, but I don't actually care)
Used by Archie
Pedo... What is it short for?
I'll let anyone go.
-
I guess I'll do one.
-Normal-type Pokemon
-Has only one evolution
-When comparing its name to that of its evolved form, the only difference in the names is the first letter
-
Minccino?
-
Correct. Minccino has only one evolved form, and it's Cinccino.
-
Bump for TBK to see.
-
Alright, here goes:
*Fully evolved starter Pokemon
*Only has one type
*Did not appear in the main anime series until the generation after it was introduced
-
I'm thinking it's got to be one of two. Hopefully this one is right.
Blaziken?
-
Nope.
-
Dammit, I knew it.
-
Blastoise?
-
Swampert?
-
Nope on both counts.
Hint: It's based off a mammal.
-
Really? How is it not Blaziken or Swampert? I guess I'll wait for my turn to take another wrong guess. :P
-
Meganium?
-
Oh wait, I misinterpreted the second clue. Has to be Meganium. I'll guess Typhlosion just inc case.
-
Actually, no, it's not Meganium. However, Typhlosion is correct.
*Fully evolved starter Pokemon
*Only has one type (Fire)
*Wasn't introduced in the main anime until after Ruby/Sapphire were introduced (one generation late)
-
I guess I'll take it then. Time for a new one.
-Gen. 2 Pokemon
-Has a hidden ability known as "rattled"
-This Pokemon is a bigger version of a certain species in the real world that a certain user here is having a problem with
-
Ledyba. Without a doubt.
-
Ledyba. Without a doubt.
Without a doubt, that is correct. :P
-
I'll pass.
-
I guess I'll go again. I've got another one.
-Two-type Pokemon
-Has wings
-Has no evolutions
-
Skarmory?
-
It fits all the criteria, but it's not the one I'm looking for. Since there are more than one Pokemon that can fit this criteria, I'm going to give an additional hint to get the Pokemon I'm thinking of:
-It's a gen. 5 Pokemon
-
Emolga?
-
That's the one I'm looking for.
-
1. Has a unique-type combination, along with its' pre-evolution
2. Used by a Gym Leader and an Elite Four member
3. It and its' pre-evolution also have a unique hidden ability
-
Jynx?
-
Is it Drifblim?
-
Is it Drifblim?
That is correct!
-
Next Pokemon:
I can dig very well, but I'm not Ground type.
I'm the 23rd pokemon in National Dex order that only has my type.
I can learn 5 out of 6 Elctric TMs in Gen V.
-
Ekans?
-
Nope.
-
You guys give up?
-
I'm waiting for someone else to give an answer before I give another one.
-
Eelektross? This is a bad guess.
-
Also incorrect
-
I think I know it now (all because I misinterpreted the second clue  ).
Is it Dunsparce?
-
It is!!!
-
Next Pokemon:
-Water-type that can fly
-Has a hidden ability called "Damp"
-Is second in a three line evolution family
-
Seadra?
-
I feel like I'm making this too easy.
It is Seadra. Your turn.
-
What I can do contradicts one of my weaknesses.
I could easily lose my second type, but It can never happen in any game.
You can only touch a part of me.
-
Volcarona?
-
Incorrect
-
Emboar? I don't know, it can use Boil which is Water type and Tepig is only Fire type. Plus, part of Emboar is on fire.
-
I really have no clue, but I'm going to guess Drifblim.
-
Both are incorrect.
Hint: It has a unique type combo.
-
I really have no clue.
Btw, are you gonna change you username back?
-
Should I give away the answer?
And I'm going to keep my name for a little while.
-
Wait for others.
-
Victini?
-
Haunter?
-
Both incorrect.
-
Rotom?
-
Rapidash?
-
Both incorrect. Any last guesses before I give it away?
-
Really, we have no clue. This is harder than my Sharpedo hints.
-
That What's Up post was supposed to be texted to my friend. I have no idea why I posted it here.
And the answer is Magcargo.
It evaporates water when it cames in contact with it, but it has a 4x weakness to water.
Its shell can easily crumble, which technically would make it lose it's rock type, but it can't lose it's shell in any game.
You can only touch its shell because the rest of its body is lava.
-
Well, I might as well go.
- This Pokémon belongs to a type specialist, but is ironically weak to her specialized type.
- It's not a Psychic-type, but it has access to several Psychic attacks.
- Its hidden ability is best activated by a teammate in a multiple battle.
-
Mismagius?
-
TAW, reply?
-
I didn't forget about this thread this time, actually; I had more important things to tend to.
It's not Mismagius.
-
Is anyone else going to guess, or should I just reveal the answer?
-
Gengar?
-
Nope, not Gengar.
I'll give one more hint: It's neither Ghost-type nor Dragon-type.
-
Golbat?
-
No, not Golbat.
-
Venomoth?
-
No, but it was a good guess.
One more guess and then I'll give away another extra hint.
-
Exeggutor?
-
That's not it, either.
This Pokémon first appeared in the games in Generation IV.
-
Lucario?
-
Wormadam?
-
It's Lucario. Nice job, Viper!
- Due to being part-Steel, Maylene's Lucario is weak to other Fighting-type moves.
- Psychic moves it can access include Heal Pulse, Psychic, Zen Headbutt, Agility, Calm Mind and Role Play.
- Its hidden ability is Justified, which ups its Attack when it's hit with a Dark-type move. And since it has a double resistance to Dark, few opponents would unintentionally trigger it.
-
I'll pass.
-
I'll go.
-Ground type
-Can learn a LOT of Normal-type moves
-This Pokemon has a very interesting story in a certain town
-
Diglett?
-
Not Diglett.
-
Phanpy?
-
Nope. One more wrong guess and I'll give another clue.
-
I'm really blanking out on the third clue...
Is it Sandshrew?
-
Is it Marowak?
-
Is it Marowak?
We've got a winner!
Not only is it a ground-type that knows a lot of normal-type moves, but its story is interesting. In Lavender Town, it's a ghost in the Pokemon Tower because Team Rocket killed it. This Marowak can only be seen with a Silph Scope.
Marowak is correct.
-
I'll pass.
-
All right, I'll go again:
- It only has one weakness, but I can't tell you the exact type for a reason.
- Its evolved form is only used by one trainer in its debut game, although several others had one above a level where it could evolve.
- Its type combination wasn't new at the time; it was first used a generation before this Pokémon debuted.
-
Barboach?
-
Shuppet?
-
Nope, neither of those. I'll reveal an extra hint after the next incorrect guess.
-
Swampert?
-
Duskull?
-
Neither of those, either.
I want to clarify that the hints that refer to its evolutionary relative are talking about a later evolution, if that helps. As a further hint, this Pokémon has two types, not just one.
-
It's been nearly a week, so I think I'll give you guys just 24 hours to try and guess before I reveal the answer.
-
Bronzor?
-
Togepi?
-
TSM got it; it was Bronzor.
- As a Steel/Psychic-type, it would normally be weak to both Fire and Ground, but each of its possible abilities covers one weakness or the other.
- Only Lucian ever uses Bronzong in Diamond and Pearl (unless some minor trainer in the postgame has it... I should've stopped to think about that ^^;; ), although Mars and Jupiter's Bronzors evolve before the Stark Mountain battle in Platinum.
- Steel/Psychic-types first appeared in Generation III with the Beldum line.
Your turn, TSM!
-
Pass.
-
I'll go.
-This Pokemon has two types
-It does not evolve
-Despite its size, don't expect it to eat you
-
Um...Steelix?
-
Not Steelix.
-
Tyranitar?
-
Nope. One more wrong guess and I'll give another hint.
-
Just so the three hints are on the next page:
-This Pokemon has two types
-It does not evolve
-Despite its size, don't expect it to eat you
-
I might as well give a new hint now. Here it is:
-I said "don't expect it to eat you" in the third clue because this Pokemon is nice
-
Do I need to give another hint? ;)
-
I believe so.
-
Okay, okay! Here it is.
-This Pokemon can swim very well
-
Gyarados?
-
I don't think Gyarados is nice. :?
That's not it. However, I will give another hint to make this easier:
-It IS a Gen. 1 Pokemon
-
Lapras?
-
Lapras?
Correct! :mrblue:
-This Pokemon has two types - Water and Ice.
-It does not evolve - According to Bulbapedia, Lapras does not evolve.
-Despite its size, don't expect it to eat you - It's huge, but due to its kind nature, it is very unlikely that it will eat you.
-I said "don't expect it to eat you" in the third clue because this Pokemon is nice - See third clue.
-This Pokemon can swim very well - Lapras is a super strong swimmer.
-It is a Gen. 1 Pokemon - From Kanto.
I'm honestly surprised that took so long, but hey, pretty much everything I did before Lapras was pretty easy. I guess this is a nice change for once.
-
Pass.
-
It has been over a month since we last touched this topic. I'll go.
-Bug Pokemon
-Two of its abilities are Swarm and Hustle
-This Pokemon, believe it or not, shares the same last name with a popular NBA basketball player
-
Durant.
-
Of course it's Durant. :P
Really, how did they come up with that name? I'm quite curious.
-
Well, Nintendo of America is based in Seattle, where the Thunder used to play.
Here's the next one:
-Used by a gym leader in Johto
-Part of a branched evolution
-Had a unique type combination until Generation V
-
Poliwrath?
-
Correct!
-Used by a gym leader in Johto: Used by Chuck
-Part of a branched evolution: Poliwag's final form can be either it or Politoed
-Had a unique type combination until Generation V: Water/Fighting, shared with Keldeo
-
Pass.
-
*bump*
1. Has a unique type combination
2. The method to obtain it is also unique
3. It is in a different egg group than its' evolutionary relatives
-
Shedinja?
-
Correct!
-
I'll pass.
-
*bump*
1. Has a unique type combination.
2. It's based on a reptile.
3. Has a similar color scheme as the first pure Steel type in National Dex order (though it's NOT a Steel type).
-
Emolga?
-
Nope.
And now I'll have to re-write the second clue because it's no longer the case as of yesterday.
-
Helioptile? I'm not sure, since you said the second clue wasn't true anymore.
-
Helioptile is correct!
1. Has a unique type combination. (Electric/Normal)
2. It's based on a reptile. (A lizard or salamander, to be specific)
3. Has a similar color scheme as the first pure Steel type in National Dex order (though it's NOT a Steel type). (Mawile, of course. :P)
And I had to re-write the second clue because the recently-revealed Shishiko also has Normal as a secondary type.
You're up, NekoSuave!
-
Alright! Let's see...
1. Has two different species names.
2. It shares its typing with five other Pokémon.
3. This Pokémon had a major role in two of the movies.
-
Jirachi?
-
Incorrect.
-
Latias?
-
Incorrect.
Maybe I should give another hint, considering how long it's been since anyone's touched on this.
-
Okay, I put another hint on here.
1. Has two different species names.
2. It shares its typing with five other Pokémon.
3. This Pokémon had a major role in two of the movies.
4. Is not a Legendary.
-
Lucario?
-
Incorrect.
-
I can't remember if it's a legendary or not, but is it Giratina?
-
Incorrect. Giratina is a Legendary.
One more incorrect answer, and I'll add another hint. I'm really sorry if I made this too challenging.
-
Complete guess here: Emboar?
-
Incorrect. I've added another hint, and I tweaked the third clue because the roles it had in those movies may not be as important as I thought they were.
1. Has two different species names.
2. It shares its typing with five other Pokémon.
3. This Pokémon was used by an antagonist in two of the movies.
4. Is not a Legendary.
5. One of its Pokédex entries states that its wings are not used for flying.
-
Scizor?
-
Scizor...is correct!
1. It was called the Scissors Pokémon in Gen II, but from Gen III onward, it was called the Pincer Pokémon.
2. It's a Bug/Steel type, a typing that only five other Pokémon (Forretress, Trash Cloak Wormadam, Escavalier, Durant, and base form Genesect) have.
3. The Iron Mask Marauder from Pokémon 4Ever and Goone from Zoroark: Master of Illusions used it; both were antagonists in their films.
4. It's not a Legendary.
5. Its Silver/SoulSilver Pokédex entry claims that their wings aren't used for flying, but to adjust body temperature.
Again, I'm really sorry for this one. I might have gone overboard when I tried to make it challenging.
-
OK, next one:
1. Gains a second type via a form change.
2. Plays a major role in one of G/S/C/HG/SS' in-game events.
3. Has never been catchable (can only be obtained via evolution).
-
Anyone have a guess?
-
This is probably wrong, but is it Ninjask?
-
It's not.
-
I don't know if it's Ampharos if you count the Mega Evolutions.
-
I am counting Mega Evolutions and it is Ampharos!
-
Pass
-
It's been a while and I'd like to take a turn, so here it goes:
-It has Levitate.
-It likes to roam.
-"Can't touch this! If you do, then something bad will happen!"
-
Latios?
-
Not Latios. I should've been more clear with my third clue. I'll edit it and I'll let you guess again right away if you want to TSM.
-
Hmm... the "something bad will happen" part makes me think it's either a Ghost type or a Dark type.
Haunter?
-
Not Haunter. I'll give another hint after one more wrong guess.
-
I guess I'll give a hint now. TSM can guess again.
-It has Levitate.
-It likes to roam.
-"Can't touch this! If you do, then something bad will happen!"
-It's part of a certain family with no evolutions.
-
Darkrai?
-
No, but you're really close. ;)
-
TSM, since you're the only one guessing, you can take another guess. However, one more wrong guess and I'll reveal the answer so we can move on.
Here's another hint: it's a Psychic type.
-
If I'm really close and it's a Psychic type, it's got to be Cresselia!
-
I can see that fitting the criteria, but unfortunately, that's not what I was looking for.
The correct answer was Mesprit.
-It has Levitate (self-explanatory)
-It likes to roam (unlike the other members of the Lake Guardian trio, this one flees from the player and roams Sinnoh)
-"Can't touch this! If you do, then something bad will happen!" (legend has it that if a person touches Mesprit, they will have their emotions drained away)
-It's part of a certain family with no evolutions (Lake Guardian trio and it doesn't evolve)
-It's a Psychic type (also self-explanatory; it's a pure Psychic type)
-When I said you were really close with the Darkrai guess, I meant that you were close in terms of National Pokedex entries. Mesprit was a few entries before Darkrai.
I guess this was a bad one to do? :?
-
*bump*
- Can learn every move with the suffix "Beam' except for SolarBeam.
- Even though its' Gold, Stadium 2, LeafGreen, and Y Pokedex entries mention its' rock-hard head, it can't have Rock Head as an ability.
- It's the only Pokemon to have a move named after it.
-
Seeing that it's been almost a year...
It's Octillery! (Octazooka's Japanese name is Okutank (Octillery's Japanese name) Cannon.)
So let's try this again...
-It's native to the region featured in the most recently released games in the series.
-It has a pre-evolution and and evolution, but neither one was introduced in the same generation as it.
-A major recurring character in the saga of the anime that took place in the region featured in the most recently released games in the series has one.
