Title: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on August 31, 2011, 12:54:27 PM
Just thought I'd try a little trivia thing with some of the questions on Millionaire if that's okay. :P I'm probably the only one who still watches and really likes the old show, but hey, just in case I'm not the only one who's interested in trivia like this, we have this thread.  Basically I'm going to post one question from each episode, and then reveal the answer with the next question on the following day (or Monday if the last one was a Friday, of course).  And no, no lifelines. :P

So, today's rerun saw David Hankins; a pre-med student at Harvard; win $100,000 by correctly attributing the quote "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent" to Eleanor Roosevelt.  He then walked away from a $250,000 question asking for the only national flag with different emblems on both sides (the answer was Paraguay), but an audience member was given the chance to win $1000 by answering this question, which would have been worth $500,000:

Quote
Which of these rooms in the White House is also oval-shaped, like the Oval Office?

A: Treaty Room
B: Press Briefing Room
C: Diplomatic Reception Room
D: Map Room

Tough one. I took a tour of the White House when my family went to D.C., but that was a LONG time ago...

I'll take a stab at it though, and say...B.

Moved to the Temple Games.

Also, I'm thinking Arby's D.

I am going to guess "C".

Three different answers........might as well make it four. I'll guess A.

It's between B or C with me. But I'll go with B.

I remember my Precalculus teacher talking to us about how since the room is oval shaped, the echoes resound at the foci.  Only problem is I can't remember whether it is was B or C.

I'm gonna say C.

I'd say B

Congrats to anybody who got that last one right... Which would be TRJ and THK, because the answer was the Diplomatic Reception Room.  Nice job, you guys!

Well, apparently Season 10 is going to start next Monday.  Considering making more of a tournament out of this somehow, but I'm not quite sure how it could be done (especially since usually these games involve the asker changing :P).  Could use some advice on that.

But for now, the first contestant today started off with this tough question, which was originally the eighth question in her set pre-randomization:

Quote
Thanks to a constitution ratified in 1949, what country has no national military force?

A: New Zealand
B: Costa Rica
C: Belgium
D: Thailand

School came in handy for this one. The answer is B
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

I guess B as well.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

Yeah, I vaguely remember this from World Geography class.  B.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

Is it A?
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Bandit King on September 01, 2011, 06:27:12 PM
I'm fairly certain that it is B.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

I'm also guessing B.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on September 02, 2011, 01:02:55 PM
It is B, as most of you guessed. :) Not sure if I'll be keeping score (if I had been, that question was worth $25,000 btw), but I might start actually doing that when the new season kicks off on Monday.  So if I do go ahead and set up a full competition thing instead of just a few questions, consider these first few questions a warm-up. :P

All right, now here's the $100,000 question that kicked off the last rerun of Season 9:

Quote
Discontinued in 1969, the $10,000 bill featured a portrait of Salmon P. Chase, who worked as Secretary of the Treasury under what U.S. President?

A: Thomas Jefferson
B: Andrew Jackson
C: Abraham Lincoln
D: Theodore Roosevelt
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Bandit King on September 02, 2011, 01:08:10 PM
Damn it...if you'd just asked who was on the $10,000 bill, I would've got it.

I'll say B.

I'm gonna guess A.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

D? I'm taking a chance that the $10,000 bill didn't last that long.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

I'm not nearly far enough into my US History course to have any clue.  This is a complete guess, but I'll say B.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on September 05, 2011, 12:52:17 PM
Well, the answer was actually C.  JTH1, good job!

Anywho, still thinking of doing an actual tourney here.  I'm probably going to spend another week or so thinking things over, and I'll probably post what I'm thinking of at some point over the week for commentary and discussion.  But for now, enjoy this question:

Quote

I also say B.

B is my guess as well.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

B
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

It's B.

All right, looks like everybody got it that time. :P And, just because I was somehow expecting this question at some point, here's today's:

Quote

C?
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

I'm also gonna say B. Which seems to be the popular choice on all the questions.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

A.

Might as well be a rebel.  :o
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on September 07, 2011, 12:38:26 PM
As you probably expected, it was B again.

Anywho, I'm trying to think over the rules for the tournament thing.  I might just play every pair of weeks like an entire Round 1, and whoever makes it to the end of that can play Round 2 over the second weekend.  It could just follow the same rules as the actual show from there, but it would involve answering every day until a question is missed. :P For Ask the Audience, I could probably PM the responses in case not everybody needs the lifeline.

Anywho, today's question:

Quote
Eugene Cernan's 1999 autobiography was appropriately titled "The Last Man On" what?

A: Three Mile Island
B: Alcatraz
C: The Berlin Wall
D: The Moon
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Bandit King on September 07, 2011, 01:22:57 PM
Tough one. But since "Eugene Cernan" sounds like an astronaut's name, I'll say D.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on September 07, 2011, 02:55:57 PM
I'm gonna say D as well.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

B?
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Headless King on September 07, 2011, 04:36:01 PM
I'm definitely going between B and D, but I'll say D.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on September 08, 2011, 07:14:16 PM
Turns out Eugene Cernan was the last man to return to Earth from the Moon, so that's 100 imaginary dollars for TBK, THK and PPF. :P

I'm not sure if anyone's been answering based on the other competitors' choices, but I really didn't intend for that to happen.  I don't want to make the answers private, but I would encourage quoting the original question to avoid peeking at others' answers and going on your own gut. ;)

Now, here's the second-to-last practice question:

Quote
Navy SEAL dogs are equipped with what synthetic body part after injuring the original?

A: Graphite claws
B: Mylar tail
C: Kevlar ears
D: Titanium fangs
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

I'll go with C.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

Yeah, kevlar sounds right. C as well.

I'll say D.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

I'm gonna say A on this one.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on September 09, 2011, 12:39:30 PM
Tough one, huh? It turns out the answer was D: Titanium fangs, so only TBK got that one.

I'm actually going to reveal the answer to today's question tomorrow, so I can focus on getting the rules for the first tourney ironed out.  And here it is:

Quote

D.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on September 09, 2011, 03:42:18 PM
It's between A and D for me. I'll go with D.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Bandit King on September 09, 2011, 03:45:01 PM
Hmm, yet another tough one.  I think I can rule out at least one answer, but I'm torn amongst the other three. :?

I'll go with B.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Headless King on September 09, 2011, 05:12:27 PM
I'm more than willing to bet it's B.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on September 10, 2011, 03:19:57 PM
I promise that not ALL the questions in the actual thing will be this tricky. :P The answer was B, believe it or not (seriously, I would never have guessed that myself).

Anywho, I'm going to try and give the actual tourney a test run; hopefully all the kinks will be worked out after this first game.  But right now, the rules would work like this:

- Basically, I'll pick one Round 1 question from each show for the next two weeks, and these will be the ten questions that make up the participants' Round 1.  The point values for the questions are $100; $500; $1000; $2000; $3000; $5000; $7000; $10,000; $15,000 and $25,000; and all ten will be arranged in a random order.  The value of a question will only be revealed along with the answer, the day after it is asked.

- Get each Round 1 question right, and you add the score to your bank.  If you miss a question at any point in Round 1, your game will end and your final score will be $1000.  You could also walk with half of your bank at any point during the round.

- The lifelines do follow the show, so everyone will start out on Monday with all three.  As always, this includes one Ask the Audience.  I'll use the actual poll results from the show where applicable, or otherwise fill in the numbers myself; the poll results will be PM'd to anybody who uses this lifeline in the main game thread.  Players are also given two Jump the Question lifelines.  With either of these, you can bypass a question without having to answer it, but you cannot collect any points from it either.

- Anyone who makes it through Round 1 (the last question being on Friday the week after the game begins) will get a chance to look at Round 2 questions the following day.  These are worth $100,000; $250,000; $500,000 and $1 million in order; and each will be progressively harder than the last.  In Round 2, you may leave with the entire bank if you choose not to answer a question; answering a question correctly increases your bank to the value of that question, but getting a question wrong means your game will end with a score of $25,000.

- The only players to be allowed in on a game are the ones that post here saying they're interested before Monday, when I give the first question.  I may just change this later on so anyone who attempts to answer the first question will be involved if that's easier, but once you're in, please try to answer every day. ^^;

Participating in the first game (09/12-09/24):
The Headless King
PurpleParrot319
Purple Parrots Fan
The Silver Monkey
The Bandit King

Well, I'm brilliant. I actually forgot about today's episode, so as a last resort, I'm just going to pick a question from an episode I have recorded.

So, once again, the players for this first game are the following:
The Headless King: $0 in bank; all three lifelines remaining
PurpleParrot319: $0 in bank; all three lifelines remaining
Purple Parrots Fan: $0 in bank; all three lifelines remaining
The Silver Monkey: $0 in bank; all three lifelines remaining
The Bandit King: $0 in bank; all three lifelines remaining

Here's the first question for the five of you:

Quote
Because she held over forty different patents, inventor Beulah Louise Henry was popularly known by what nickname?

A: Lady Edison
B: Lady Shakespeare
C: Lady Rockefeller
D: Lady Darwin

Title: Re: Question of the Day?

Thanks THK. After looking over the answers, my answer is A. That is my final answer.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on September 12, 2011, 06:30:47 PM
My answer is A, because that one seems to make the most sense. (Not going along with anyone else, that's just my choice).
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Bandit King on September 12, 2011, 06:38:11 PM
It's got to be A...
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Silver Monkey on September 12, 2011, 07:02:40 PM
It's gotta be A.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on September 13, 2011, 05:31:33 PM
It's nice when it starts off with an easy question, isn't it? :) Everybody got it right, and it turns out it was worth $3000.  So:

Standings after 1 question:
The Headless King: $3000 in bank; all three lifelines remaining
PurpleParrot319: $3000 in bank; all three lifelines remaining
Purple Parrots Fan: $3000 in bank; all three lifelines remaining
The Silver Monkey: $3000 in bank; all three lifelines remaining
The Bandit King: $3000 in bank; all three lifelines remaining

So, everybody's now thirteen questions away from the million.  Here's the second question:

Quote
For over a century, a bell called the "Kaiserglockerl" has been rung to announce the daily closing time of a zoo in what city?

A: Athens
B: Rome
C: Vienna
D: Dublin
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Headless King on September 13, 2011, 05:37:03 PM
C, final answer.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

I'm gonna go with C, too.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The White Light on September 13, 2011, 06:09:57 PM
Athens, Rome, Vienna, and Dublin are capitals of Greece, Italy, Austria, and Ireland. Not countries. And the answer is c.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on September 13, 2011, 06:14:21 PM
I don't know if I wasn't very clear before, but each game is restricted to those who signed up before the question.  I'm sorry about that, The White Light, but you may take part in the next game if you sign up for it on the weekend before (starting from the 24th until the morning of the 26th, specifically).

EDIT: But thank you for pointing out my typo. *Goes back to fix*
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: PurpleParrot319 on September 13, 2011, 06:29:27 PM
I think the first six letters of the hyphenated word gives it away. Vienna is the capital of Austria, which is closest to Germany. My final answer is C.

Freedom of Speech
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on September 13, 2011, 06:42:56 PM
Are you saying you don't care that you're going against the rules I set into place? The reason I basically said that you had to sign up before the game started was to be fair to everyone— it'd just be wrong if the people who signed up before the game had to go through all fourteen questions from the start, but anybody else could just jump in whenever they felt like it.

Maybe I should just restrict things to PM next time to prevent this, but frankly I was hoping the test run could be done without a problem like this coming up.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on September 13, 2011, 06:45:00 PM
I'm also gonna say C, since that makes the most sense.

Title: Re: Question of the Day?

Hmm...the "K" word sounds German, and since I'm fairly certain Austria used to be part of Germany, I'll say C.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on September 14, 2011, 12:57:11 PM
Well, so far everybody once again got that one right.  It's only worth $100, but everybody's still tied at this point. :P

Standings after 2 questions:
The Headless King: $3100 in bank; all three lifelines remaining
PurpleParrot319: $3100 in bank; all three lifelines remaining
Purple Parrots Fan: $3100 in bank; all three lifelines remaining
The Silver Monkey: $3100 in bank; all three lifelines remaining
The Bandit King: $3100 in bank; all three lifelines remaining

All right, here comes the third question for you five.

Quote

C: Oreos
D: Triscuits
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

I think I can narrow it down, but even then, my answer would only be a guess, so I'm gonna jump this question.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: PurpleParrot319 on September 14, 2011, 05:24:57 PM
For some reason, I think I remember seeing this question somewhere. However, even if I did see it, I don't remember the answer. Therefore, I'm skipping this question.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on September 14, 2011, 06:57:00 PM
I really have no idea, and I don't want to just go along with the crowd. Even though I'm probably wrong and will probably be out, I'm gonna guess C.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Silver Monkey on September 14, 2011, 08:06:09 PM
I know that Triscuits and Ritz Crackers don't have any words printed on them, and I'm pretty sure Cheez-It doesn't, either.

That being said, C, Oreo, final answer.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on September 15, 2011, 07:09:36 PM
Well, it looks like the last question really had more of a mixture of responses.  Fair enough, because it was a harder one.  So, the rundown:

Apparently The Bandit King was unable to respond in time.  On the actual show, the clock format of Seasons 7 and 8 treated contestants that ran out of time without answering as though they chose not to answer (letting them walk away with their current winnings rather than dropping them down to the minimum at that point), so for now, I'll do the same here, and treat it as though he decided to jump the question.  I'm sorry about that; I can understand if real life can get in the way unexpectedly, but for the sake of fairness in the game... I can change this rule if you guys have a better alternative, though.

The Headless King and PurpleParrot319 both chose to jump the question, leaving them each with two lifelines now.

The Silver Monkey and Purple Parrots Fan both answered C: Oreos.  I agree with the way you reasoned it out and I thought the same thing watching yesterday's show, but unfortunately, it wasn't the right answer.  It was actually B: Ritz Crackers. :( I'm sorry about that, but both of you do get $1000 as a final score.

The question itself, by the way, was worth $1000.  The remaining collectible amounts in Round 1 are $500; $2000; $5000; $7000; $10,000; $15,000 and $25,000.

Standings after 3 questions:
The Headless King: $3100 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
PurpleParrot319: $3100 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Bandit King: $3100 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
Purple Parrots Fan: $1000 total winnings
The Silver Monkey: $1000 total winnings

The three of you still in the game are now eleven questions away from the million and seven away from Round 2.  Here's the next question:

Quote

C: New York Public Library

Post by: The Headless King on September 15, 2011, 07:26:31 PM
Let's see.  I'm pretty sure Blockbuster went out of business, but why would children owe them money in the first place?  AT&T makes no sense because phone companies don't really have "late fees", especially not to children.  I don't know much about Girl Scouts of America, but I'm pretty sure if they even did have something of late fees, there'd be a lot more than 143,000 children who owed.  New York Public Library sounds good due to the sheer population of New York, plus library late fees can add up quite a bit.

C. Final answer.

EDIT: This post made me a Warrior.

I want to say A, but I have this funny feeling it's going to be C. B and D don't make sense to me and I'm scared to use another lifeline. I'm gonna have to guess.

A or C? A or C? Ohhhhh, C! Final answer.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

I honestly have no clue...I'd like to jump this question, please.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: PurpleParrot319 on September 15, 2011, 10:05:36 PM
Hey TAW, since the three remaining players have already locked in their guesses (me, THK, and TBK), is it okay if we find out what the correct answer is now? You don't have to reveal the answer now if you don't want to. You can stick with thhe one a day deal if you'd like, but I'm just curious. ;)

And if me and THK are both wrong, that would mean TBK is the last one standing.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on September 15, 2011, 10:11:30 PM
Actually, I might as well.

The answer was in fact C: New York Public Library.  The question was worth $500, but that at least means that not all the players are tied now, so this can get interesting. ;)

So, just to recap, the three remaining players are now ten questions away from the million and six away from Round 2.  Walking away in Round 1 will only involve taking half the bank, but if you make it to Round 2, you can walk away with the entire bank.  The remaining six questions in Round 1 are worth $2000; $5000; $7000; $10,000; $15,000 and $25,000; but not necessarily in that order. :P

Standings after 4 questions:
The Headless King: $3600 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
PurpleParrot319: $3600 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Bandit King: $3100 in bank; Ask the Audience remaining
Purple Parrots Fan: $1000 total winnings
The Silver Monkey: $1000 total winnings

The fifth question will be coming at about 1 PM tomorrow, or right after tomorrow's episode.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on September 16, 2011, 12:57:08 PM
Before I give you today's question, I'd like to remind you three that if you choose to ask the audience, I'll send you the result via PM.  From there, I'd prefer it if you kept your final decision on the question to PM as well, in case the nature of the response could give away a little too much about the results.  If you choose to walk before you reach Round 2, you can take half the bank, but missing a question will cause you to lose the bank.

So, here's the fifth question:

Quote
Roughly how many fortnights are in a decade?

A: 50
B: 110
C: 190
D: 260
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: PurpleParrot319 on September 16, 2011, 01:04:09 PM
I would like to ask the audience because I have no idea what the answer is.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Bandit King on September 16, 2011, 01:07:36 PM
Let's see...I think I remember how long a fortnight is, so after a little quick math in my head...

I'll say D.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Headless King on September 16, 2011, 05:24:05 PM
I know how long a fortnight is, and I know how long a decade is, so...

D.  Final answer.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on September 16, 2011, 10:50:50 PM
The missing gap was that a fortnight is equal to fourteen days or two weeks, so the answer was in fact D: 260.  The question itself was worth $5000, and you've all earned that too.

That means you three are now nine questions away from the million, and I think it's starting to get interesting here.  I'm going to post the next question right after Monday's show.

Standings after 5 questions:
The Headless King: $8600 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
PurpleParrot319: $8600 in bank; one Jump the Question remaining
The Bandit King: $8100 in bank; Ask the Audience remaining
Purple Parrots Fan: $1000 total winnings
The Silver Monkey: $1000 total winnings
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

All right, Monday is here and that means a new question for you guys.  We're still halfway through Round 1, so here's question #6:

Quote
As of 2011, which of the following presidential candidates has not lost one of the four most recent presidental elections?

A: John Kerry
B: George H. W. Bush
C: John McCain
D: Al Gore
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: PurpleParrot319 on September 19, 2011, 05:07:33 PM
I'm confused. H.W. is the only President on the list, but it's out of the FOUR most recent presidential elections, and I'm pretty sure he didn't win in the four most recent elections. Kerry lost, McCain lost, and Gore lost, but Gore's loss is controversial as he won the popular vote, but not the Electoral College vote.

Really, this is confusing. Can we have a different question please? I'm pretty sure that's why no one else has answered yet, although TBK's absence and THK not being here yet might be another reason why, I don't know.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

B, without a doubt.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

@PP319

The reason I didn't get to it earlier is High School.  ;)
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: PurpleParrot319 on September 19, 2011, 07:19:25 PM
I think I need to clarify something. I will take a guess on this one. I'm not skipping it.

My guess is B, H.W. I just can't go against the only President on that list. B is my final answer.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Bandit King on September 19, 2011, 08:33:40 PM
I'm almost positive it's B.

And PP319, you're forgetting that I kind of have a job now, so I won't be answering these until quite late. ;)
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on September 19, 2011, 08:42:21 PM
Yeah, that's kind of why I allow participants to answer any time before I post the next question. :P Real life can get in the way, but given a schedule, 24 hours or so should allow just about anyone a chance to log in and contemplate each question.

...But real life is also why the questions on Tuesdays and Thursdays come much later in the day. I'm supposed to be at a lecture for one of my hardest classes when the show runs those days, so I don't get a chance to watch the episode until I get back to my room and watch the tape several hours later.

I didn't even think about the question possibly being faulty, but it doesn't matter because everybody got it.  Which is also good because this question was worth $10,000 for each of you. :)

Standings after 6 questions:
The Headless King: $18,600 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
PurpleParrot319: $18,600 in bank; one Jump the Question remaining
The Bandit King: $18,100 in bank; Ask the Audience remaining
Purple Parrots Fan: $1000 total winnings
The Silver Monkey: $1000 total winnings

Remaining money in Round 1:
$25,000
$15,000
$7000
$2000
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

I knew TBK has a job now. I actually forgot THK had school.

I had a class today too, but it was short. Too bad it caused stress because of big time rain! :x
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on September 20, 2011, 05:59:48 PM
All right, so we've still got three remaining contestants and eight questions to go on the way to the million.  You have until 1 PM tomorrow to answer this question:

Quote
What term names a recent culinary trend exploring the chemistry and physics behind the preparation of a dish?

A: Molecular gastronomy
B: Geometric gastronomy
C: Elemental gastronomy
D: Laboratory gastronomy
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Headless King on September 20, 2011, 06:36:28 PM
I can eliminate B because Geometric doesn't really encompass chemistry and composition, just physics.  I can eliminate C because Elemental doesn't really include physics, more just composition.  Choice A seems like a good option, but then again heat is a good portion of the physics component and Molecular concepts are more focused on the structures.  D definitely seems to be the best choice partly because it's the most generic, but I do have my doubts.

I'll go for it.  D.  Final answer.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: PurpleParrot319 on September 20, 2011, 07:12:59 PM
Petree dishes, right? D, laboratory gastronomy. It makes the most sense to me. D is my final answer.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Bandit King on September 20, 2011, 08:47:16 PM
Despite my scientific nature, I'm unsure on this one. I'd like to ask the audience...
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on September 20, 2011, 11:07:58 PM
All right, so TBK just locked in A as his final answer.  I know THK and PP319 both thought it was D.  And the answer was...

A: Molecular gastronomy.

That last question actually ended up being worth $25,000; which TBK gets to add to his bank.  I'm sorry, THK and PP319.  You both did a good job, though, and you do get $1000 as your final scores.

TBK is now the only one still playing, but it could still end up in a five-way tie.  Just play any following questions as you would on the real show and let's see how it turns out. :P

Standings after 7 questions:

The Bandit King: $43,100 in bank; Ask the Audience remaining
PurpleParrot319: $1000 total winnings
Purple Parrots Fan: $1000 total winnings
The Headless King: $1000 total winnings
The Silver Monkey: $1000 total winnings

Remaining money in Round 1:
$15,000
$7000
$2000

Would we have to restart the game if TBK gets one wrong before getting to the big questions?
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on September 20, 2011, 11:40:08 PM
Well, not "restart" per se, but a new one would begin next Monday either way.  If we don't get all the way to the end of Round 1, the remaining time could just be used to provide a bigger window for more people to sign up for the next game.  But I'll probably end up logging everybody's scores and having the scores from each game accumulate, and that could somehow be used to go towards something.  Not entirely sure what just yet (but taking over as the quizmaster after reaching a million is probably going to be a sure one), but I might see if we could negotiate something with the admins. ;)
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on September 21, 2011, 12:57:05 PM
All right, as I said before, TBK is the only player still in the game.  As you know, the lifelines are gone, but you can walk with half the bank at any time (at this point it would make your final score $21,550).  Miss a question and you lose the bank.  We know this question is worth either $15,000; $7000 or $2000; though; if you want to play it out.  Here it is:

Quote
What starlet agreed to attend the Marine Corps Ball in 2011 with a soldier after a video of him inviting her went viral?

A: Megan Fox
B: Mila Kunis
C: January Jones
D: Lindsay Lohan
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Bandit King on September 21, 2011, 08:21:58 PM
It's definitely B.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on September 21, 2011, 08:37:48 PM
That it is; and it's another $7000 in the bank; bringing you up to $50,100.  Just two questions left in Round 1, and the first of them is coming tomorrow.

Standings after 8 questions:
The Bandit King: $50,100 in bank; No lifelines left
PurpleParrot319: $1000 total winnings
Purple Parrots Fan: $1000 total winnings
The Headless King: $1000 total winnings
The Silver Monkey: $1000 total winnings

Remaining money in Round 1:
$15,000
$2000
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on September 22, 2011, 06:02:54 PM
All right, TBK, you're now only two questions away from Round 2 and six away from the million.  This question could be worth either $2000 or $15,000 if you get it right:

Quote
Reflecting on a job he held as a young man, Ronald Reagan often said he saved 77 people's lives while working as a what?

A: Firefighter
B: EMT
C: Lifeguard
D: Police officer
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Bandit King on September 22, 2011, 08:13:22 PM
Hmm...I don't think there was such a job as an EMT when Reagan was young, so I can rule out B.

I'm pretty sure Reagan grew up in California, so I'm tempted to say C. Of course, that may be a trick choice...

I'm not saying I want to walk just yet, but I can keep half my bank if I do, right?
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on September 22, 2011, 08:13:52 PM
That's right.  That would make your total winnings $25,050 if you decide to walk.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Bandit King on September 22, 2011, 08:17:55 PM
Well, since that puts me ahead of everyone else, and since I'm not that sure about this question, I think I'll walk with the $25 grand. ;)
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on September 22, 2011, 08:23:13 PM
All right then.  Well, your hunch was right (it was C), but I can understand not wanting to take the risk. ;)

Final results of Session 1:
The Bandit King: $25,050 total winnings
PurpleParrot319: $1000 total winnings
Purple Parrots Fan: $1000 total winnings
The Headless King: $1000 total winnings
The Silver Monkey: $1000 total winnings

So, that's our first game. :P The five of you now have some banks started out on the race to the million, and you're all free to join in on the next session to collect even more points, along with anybody else who wants to give it a try.  Anybody who wants to give it a try can sign up for the next round by replying between now and 12:30 PM on Monday, and I'll add you on to the list below.

Participants in Session 2 (09/26/11-10/08/11):
1. Purple Parrots Fan
2. The Bandit King
3. PurpleParrot319
4. The Headless King

All right, so today kicks off Session 2 of the tournament.  As with the first one, I'll post one question each weekday until October 7th, and that will be Round 1.  The ten questions of Round 1 have randomized difficulty and randomized money amounts (the various amounts are $100, $500, $1000, $2000, $3000, $5000, $7000, $10K, $15K and $25K) which get added to your bank, but to match with the actual Millionaire, there's another twist this week: one question will be doubled in value for anybody who gets it right.  So if you get all ten Round 1 questions right and get really lucky with the "Double your Money" placement; you could get to Round 2 with as much as $93,600 in the bank.

Round 2, aka Classic Millionaire, will be played on October 8th for anybody who makes it through Round 1.  The game follows the same rules as the original format, with four progressively harder questions that can boost your winnings to $100K, $250K, $500K and $1 million.  Good luck to everyone, and let's begin!

Start of Session 2:
Purple Parrots Fan: $0 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
The Bandit King: $0 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
PurpleParrot319: $0 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
The Headless King: $0 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
The Silver Monkey: $0 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
JTH1: $0 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining

During Round 1, you'll have until the next question is posted to answer each question.  Here's the first one:

Quote

B: Sunflowers
C: The Potato Eaters
D: Starry Night

Title: Re: Question of the Day?

Starry Night is the only Van Gogh painting I know of, so D is my final answer.

D. Final answer.

D, final answer.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

I think it's D.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on September 26, 2011, 08:53:46 PM
It is D.  It's nice when they start out easy, isn't it? ;) Even better yet; the question was actually worth $15,000 right off the bat; so that's added to all your banks already.

Standings after the first question:
Purple Parrots Fan: $15,000 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
The Bandit King: $15,000 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
PurpleParrot319: $15,000 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
The Headless King: $15,000 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
The Silver Monkey: $15,000 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
JTH1: $15,000 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining

I'll tell you right now that the "Double the Money" question will be the fifth one in the set (September 30th, that is).  Because of my class schedule on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the next question will be coming tomorrow evening rather than right after the show ends at 1, so keep an eye on this thread for it.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on September 27, 2011, 05:42:30 PM
All right, so all six of you are still in the game after the first question, with three lifelines left and $15K each.  So far, so good, but let's look at the second question:

Quote

You guys can relax; it wasn't a trick. :P The question was actually meant to be the easiest in the bunch, and fittingly, it was worth $100.  And everybody got it right, so:

Standings after 2 questions:
Purple Parrots Fan: $15,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
The Bandit King: $15,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
PurpleParrot319: $15,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
The Headless King: $15,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
The Silver Monkey: $15,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining

Question #3 coming tomorrow afternoon!

All right, it's a new day and that means a new question. :P Here's the third question for the six of you:

Title: Re: Question of the Day?

Yup, no tricks so far.  The answer was C, and the question was worth another $2000.  It's nice when the randomizer still drops in a lot of easier questions early on to help you build the bank, isn't it? ;)

Standings after 3 questions:
Purple Parrots Fan: $17,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
The Bandit King: $17,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
PurpleParrot319: $17,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
The Headless King: $17,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
The Silver Monkey: $17,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
JTH1: $17,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining

Incidentally, "hijab" can either refer to a head covering worn by Muslim women, or their dress code in general, apparently.  A "burka" is the still-more-modest outer garment they may also wear in public— sort of like a hijab and a long robe in one.  And yes, "yarmulke" is spelled that way, even though I've never heard anyone (Bostonian or otherwise :P) pronounce the R.

Everybody's 3-for-3 so far.  Fourth question comes tomorrow evening after my classes are over, and as a quick reminder, the "Double Your Money" question will be posted Friday at 1.

All right, you six, I've got the next question for you to look at.  Remember the lifelines are all there if you need them; but this next question could be worth as much as $25,000.  Take a look:

Quote
With an expletive in the title, Adam Mansbach's new "children's book for adults" focuses on trying to get a child to do what?

A: Sleep
B: Eat
C: Wake up
D: Be quiet

I'm leaning towards D, but I'm not entirely sure, so I'll jump.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

Hmm...hard one.  It could literally be any one of them...

I'd like to Jump this Question.

I hate to go along with the crowd, but I'm gonna jump this question as well. It really can be any one of them, and I just can't narrow it down.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

I'm gonna have to Jump. I got no clue.

I'll jump, too.

Someone's gotta man up here. :P

I'll do it. I'm guessing A.) sleep. That is my final answer, and if it's wrong, then oh well. I tried. ;)
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on September 30, 2011, 01:55:57 PM
Well, this was a little later than I'd intended. But anywho, the name of the book was "Go the Fuck to Sleep." Great guess, PP319; that earned you another $500 for your bank, putting you in the lead.

Standings after 4 questions:
PurpleParrot319: $17,600 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
Purple Parrots Fan: $17,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Bandit King: $17,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Headless King: $17,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Silver Monkey: $17,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
JTH1: $17,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining

Which brings us ten questions away from the million, with this next one being the Double Money question.  It could be worth $2000, $6000, $10K, $14K, $20K or even a whopping $50K:

Quote
Fittingly, the name of the car company Volvo translates from Latin as what?

A: I fly
B: I roll
C: I jump
D: I slide
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Headless King on September 30, 2011, 04:40:09 PM
Gotta be B, since cars don't fly or jump, and I'm pretty sure it'd be a bad thing if they slide.

Plus the stem "volve" is in some other words, namely "revolve", which means to go around.

B. Final answer.

B, final answer.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

Holy crap, it was Sleep?

And damn, it was only worth $500.

As for this next question, I think it has to be B.) I roll. That will be my final answer.

B. Final
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

Using the F word in a children's book? What is the world coming to?
Just so you understand, the writer DID say it was a "children's book for adults," and apparently it was written in such a style to match that description.  Not really for kids, but sort of to tell other adults "Believe me, I know how hard parenting can be at times" with a bit of a laugh. :P

Anyway, back to this question.  The answer was in fact B, and the question itself was worth $7000.  So, that's getting doubled to $14K and added to everyone's total:

Standings after 5 questions:
PurpleParrot319: $31,600 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
Purple Parrots Fan: $31,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Bandit King: $31,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Headless King: $31,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Silver Monkey (or Mr. Sardo now, apparently ): $31,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
JTH1: $31,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining

At this point, you can all take a deep breath and relax.  You've all made it halfway through Round 1, and question #6 is coming Monday. ;)
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on October 03, 2011, 12:57:46 PM
All right, it's a brand new week and that means it's time for a Monday question.  You've all made it halfway through Round 1 with sizable banks, and you get to keep their entire contents, rather than half if you decide to walk, if you make it through the next five questions to reach Round 2.  Here's Question #6:

Quote
In a 2011 decision about the sale of violent video games to minors, the U.S. Supreme Court cited the gore in which of the following?

A: Aesop's fables
B: Mother Goose nursery rhymes
C: Grimm's fairy tales
D: Dr. Seuss books
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Headless King on October 03, 2011, 01:25:25 PM
Let's see.  I don't recall any violence or gore in B or D.  A had some violence, but C was infamous for having gore in "children's stories".

C definitely makes the most sense, so I'll go with it.  C, final answer.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: PurpleParrot319 on October 03, 2011, 01:54:24 PM
I'm ruling out B and D. It could be A, but I'm fairly confident that it's C.

C is my final answer.

After taking German lit classes, I knew that answer right away as well.  It's definitely C.  And the best part? The question was worth $25,000 added to everybody's bank!

Standings after 6 questions:
PurpleParrot319: $56,600 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
Purple Parrots Fan: $56,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Bandit King: $56,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Headless King: $56,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Silver Monkey: $56,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
JTH1: $56,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining

Four more Round 1 questions to go.  My schedule tomorrow is going to be rather hectic, but I'll see when I might get the chance to post the next question.  Hopefully it won't be too late.

Well, as I mentioned, I knew today was going to be busy.  I'm sorry it doesn't leave a ton of time to answer today's question, but you know, offline responsibilities come first.  Anywho, I hope it didn't make too much of a difference in regards to this question:

It's C. Final.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

Let's see. It can't be a centaur. I don't think it's a pegasus. I'm also thinking it can't be a minotaur. By process of elimination, it has to be C: Gryphon.

C: Gryphon, final answer.

C it was, and the question was another big one: $10,000 more to everybody's bank!

Standings after 7 questions:
PurpleParrot319: $66,600 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
Purple Parrots Fan: $66,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Bandit King: $66,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Headless King: $66,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Silver Monkey: $66,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
JTH1: $66,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining

Three questions left in Round 1, and this one is worth either $1000, $3000 or $5000.  Take a look:

D, Final.

Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on October 05, 2011, 10:38:49 PM
I'm just curious, but why were the three of you who went for it leaning towards Uzbekistan? That was the correct answer, but I'm still wondering what the reasoning was. :P

Otherwise, I admit that was a hard one, so I don't blame anyone for jumping over it.  As a fun fact, Uzbekistan is one of only two countries that is completely surrounded only by other landlocked countries; the other is the much smaller Liechtenstein, wedged between Switzerland and Austria.  Anyway, that question was worth $3000 to those of you who answered it; that's going to shake up the scores a little...

Standings after 8 questions:
The Headless King: $69,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Silver Monkey: $69,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
Purple Parrots Fan: $69,100 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
PurpleParrot319: $66,600 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Bandit King: $66,100 in bank; Ask the Audience remaining
JTH1: $66,100 in bank; Ask the Audience remaining

Everyone's still in it, and we're now only six questions away from the million and two away from Round 2.  Some of you no longer have a Jump the Question handy, so I'd like to remind you that if you choose to walk away from either of the remaining Round 1 questions, you will keep half of your winnings and those will be added into your all-time scores on the leaderboard I'm keeping track of.  Miss a Round 1 question and you lose the bank.  The next question will come sometime tomorrow evening, but hopefully not too late.

I'm just curious, but why were the three of you who went for it leaning towards Uzbekistan? That was the correct answer, but I'm still wondering what the reasoning was. :P

For me, I knew Kazakhstan has a border with Russia and Kyrgyzstan has a border with China, so it was between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

Same as THK. :P
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: PurpleParrot319 on October 06, 2011, 01:17:27 PM
Oh thank goodness I didn't guess! I would've said C: Kyrgyzstan. I knew it was a landlocked country and was bordered by the landlocked country of Tajikistan, but it also bordered China, which is bordered by numerous seas. One other thing that threw me was that the right answer (Uzbekistan) borders Turkmenistan, which is bordered by the Caspian Sea. Wouldn't that make Uzbekistan wrong then? Wouldn't there be no right answer?

Anyway, because of this, I decided to play it safe and skip the question. Good thing I did, huh? :P

Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on October 06, 2011, 05:55:12 PM
Well, at this point we've only got two more questions to go through to get to Round 2 and the big money. :P We know this one is worth either $1000 or $5000, so take a look and think it over:

Quote

Yeesh, another tough one.  I know who A, C and D are, but I've never heard of Woody Harrison (did you mean Harrelson, or is there another one?).

Unfortunately, TBK, you're out of Jumps, so you'll need to deal with this question some other way.  You can still walk with half the bank, but if you want to ask the audience first, that's still an option.

Thank you for pointing out my typo in B, though.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on October 07, 2011, 08:41:27 PM
To be honest, I had no clue myself when the question came up on the show.  But it turns out the answer was B: Woody Harrelson.  Unfortunately, that means we have to say goodbye to JTH1, but the rest of you are still in the game, and those of you who answered just gained another $1000.

Standings after 9 questions:
The Headless King: $70,100 in bank; one Jump the Question remaining
The Silver Monkey: $69,100 in bank; Ask the Audience remaining
Purple Parrots Fan: $69,100 in bank; Ask the Audience remaining
The Bandit King: $67,100 in bank; Ask the Audience remaining
PurpleParrot319: $66,600 in bank; no lifelines remaining
JTH1: $1000 total winnings

For those of you still in the running, this is the final question of Round 1, and we know it's worth $5000.  I'd like to remind you that if you choose to walk away, you get half of your current bank.  But if you get this question right and enter Round 2; you will be looking at the $100,000 question; able to walk away with your entire bank and guaranteed a minimum score of $25,000.  Here's the last question separating you from that:

Quote

Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: PurpleParrot319 on October 07, 2011, 09:17:56 PM
Looks like everyone has answered, assuming TBK already has as well. Once he gives you the answer TAW, can we find out if we were right?
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on October 07, 2011, 09:20:51 PM
Well, that takes out any possibility of me trying to psych you out.  Seriously, if it hadn't already been mentioned, I would've totally pulled a Meredith and said "It wasn't forty minutes... It was thirty-eight, but we rounded it up." Anyway, let's see where we're at.

Standings after 10 questions:
The Headless King: $75,100 in bank; one Jump the Question remaining
The Silver Monkey: $74,100 in bank; Ask the Audience remaining
Purple Parrots Fan: $74,100 in bank; Ask the Audience remaining
The Bandit King: $72,100 in bank; no lifelines remaining
PurpleParrot319: $71,600 in bank; no lifelines remaining
JTH1: $1000 total winnings

So, five of you are still in the game and have all finished Round 1.  I might as well start Round 2 a little early, so just give me a little time to decide which questions to ask, and I'll post at least the first of them tonight.  Depends on how long everybody needs on each of them. :P
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on October 07, 2011, 10:03:36 PM
All right, I think my mind's made up on which questions to ask. :P So, to the five of you who are still in the game... It's time to play Classic Millionaire.

*Cue imaginary lights XD*

There are just four questions separating any of you from the million.  If any of you choose to walk at any point in the round, you will get to keep your entire bank rather than half of it.  The questions do get progressively harder and you are guaranteed a minimum $25K just for making it this far.  So, let's take a look at Question #11, shall we?

$100,000:

Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on October 07, 2011, 10:46:58 PM
You know, "Hotel California" might not be the best reasoning.  There was a town in New Mexico named after a game show, so why not one named after a song? It's totally possible.

...But not true in this case.  All of you just got $100,000!

Standings after 11 questions:
The Headless King: $100,000 in bank; one Jump the Question remaining
The Silver Monkey: $100,000 in bank; Ask the Audience remaining
Purple Parrots Fan: $100,000 in bank; Ask the Audience remaining
The Bandit King: $100,000 in bank; no lifelines remaining
PurpleParrot319: $100,000 in bank; no lifelines remaining
JTH1: $1000 total winnings

Not bad, you guys, not bad.  Just three questions left, and if any of you decide to go for this next one, you're risking $75K in loss versus $150K in gain.  Don't forget your lifelines, for those of you who still have them.

Well, this is getting interesting.  I've gotten a mix of answers from this one, but the correct one was... A: Samuel Beckett.  Unfortunately, not everybody got that, so at this point we have to say goodbye to two more contestants.  PPF, PP319: A nice effort, both of you, and you do both get $25K from this session to add to your cumulative totals.

Standings after 12 questions:
The Bandit King: $250,000 in bank; no lifelines remaining
The Silver Monkey: $250,000 in bank; no lifelines remaining
The Headless King: $100,000 in bank; no lifelines remaining
Purple Parrots Fan: $25,000 total winnings
PurpleParrot319: $25,000 total winnings
JTH1: $1000 total winnings

I honestly can't believe we're getting this far along already, but we still have three contestants in the running and we're just TWO questions away from the million.  Take a look and decide if you want to go for it.

$500,000:

Man, this could be the toughest one yet. Since I have literally no clue, I think I'll just walk with my bank.

Final.

Hmmm.

I'm fairly sure there's one in Kuwait.  It's a small country, but very industrialized and rich.
Bahrain is not AS industrialized, but I'm more than willing to bet there's also one there.

For me, it's between Lebanon and Syria.  Neither of those is particularly striving or industrialized, but I think Syria is far worse, so I'll say D.

D, Final answer.

I can't believe how gutsy you guys are right now. :P

But it IS Syria!

Standings after 13 questions:
The Silver Monkey: $500,000 in bank; no lifelines remaining
The Headless King: $500,000 in bank; no lifelines remaining
The Bandit King: $250,000 total winnings
Purple Parrots Fan: $25,000 total winnings
PurpleParrot319: $25,000 total winnings
JTH1: $1000 total winnings

Well, I don't know how gutsy you guys really are, but this question could decide everything.  I believe I said that getting the million would turn quizmaster duties over to the winner, but if you both get this one... Well, I hadn't planned for this. But keep in mind if you do go for it that you will either get the million if you're right or otherwise be left with $25,000 if you're wrong.  Good luck!

Hey, if we were dealing with REAL money, I would've been done quite some time ago.

And now onto the question.  Yikes!  I really have no clue, except that D sounds vaguely familiar.

My guess would be D, but my official decision is to walk with the half million.

Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on October 08, 2011, 01:18:42 AM
Just thought I'd throw it out there anyway. :P Anyway, yes, it was C: Katherine Heigl.  I definitely didn't expect somebody to get to a million this soon, but there you have it, people!

Final standings for Session 2:
The Silver Monkey: $1,000,000 total winnings
The Headless King: $500,000 total winnings
The Bandit King: $250,000 total winnings
Purple Parrots Fan: $25,000 total winnings
PurpleParrot319: $25,000 total winnings
JTH1: $1000 total winnings

Cumulative scores:
The Silver Monkey: $1,001,000
The Headless King: $501,000
The Bandit King: $275,050
Purple Parrots Fan: $26,000
PurpleParrot319: $26,000
JTH1: $1000

So, what I'm figuring is this.  If TSM wants to take over the hosting job, he can at this point.  When somebody else reaches a million, they can take it over if they want, and it can keep going like that (that is, the next person to score some multiple of a million becomes the next one to get a chance at being the quizmaster).  So, interested?

All right, so the questions and money values for Round 1 are all randomized again, and like always, everyone in the game has fourteen questions to answer to get to the million and three lifelines once again.

Participants in Session 3:
Purple Parrots Fan: $0 in bank, Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
The Silver Monkey: $0 in bank, Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
The Headless King: $0 in bank, Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
PurpleParrot319: $0 in bank, Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
The Bandit King: $0 in bank, Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
The Viper: $0 in bank, Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining

Here's the first question:

That it is, and to make things better, the question is worth $15K for each of you.  Great way to start off, huh? :P

Standings after the first question:
Purple Parrots Fan: $15,000 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
The Silver Monkey: $15,000 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
The Headless King: $15,000 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
PurpleParrot319: $15,000 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
The Bandit King: $15,000 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining
The Viper: $15,000 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question remaining

The second question is coming tomorrow evening.

All right, so the six of you got off to a great start yesterday: no lifelines used and $15,000 banked by each of you.  There's still plenty of Round 1 scoring available to you, so let's see if you can collect some more with this question:

Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on October 12, 2011, 12:59:18 PM
Well, the game marches on, but before I give you the next question, the answer to yesterday's was C: The People's Court.  I didn't get a response from The Viper, but I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt by letting him continue at the cost of one Jump the Question.  Remember that if you decide to join a session, you'd have to answer a question each day, so make sure you'll be able to before signing up.  I may be able to bend the rules sometimes if there's a schedule clash on my part that actually prevents you from answering a question by a certain time (if for example we need to correspond because Ask the Audience was used), but that can only go so far.

Standings after 2 questions:
The Headless King: $16,000 in bank; two Jump the Question remaining
PurpleParrot319: $16,000 in bank; two Jump the Question remaining
Purple Parrots Fan: $15,000 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Silver Monkey: $15,000 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Bandit King: $15,000 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Viper: $15,000 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining

Here's question #3:

The answer was C, so good job and another $500 to everybody who got it. :P Unfortunately, this one counts as a jump for The Viper for not answering.  I apologize if you've actually been busy, but please try not to rush into a session of this game if it's likely to happen.  If you aren't able to answer this next question before the fifth one is posted tomorrow, then because you have no more opportunities to jump, you will be forced to walk away with half of your current earnings.  I'm sorry about that if it does happen, but anyway...

Standings after 3 questions:

D: "I threw my teddy bear"

I remember reading an interview and I think it said that he was watching the TV when he realized there was a burglar.  So I'm leaning towards A, but I'm not very confident about it.  I can eliminate D, and I seriously doubt C.  What the hell, I'll go for it.

A, final answer.

I'll laugh if it's A because it's a rival game show to Jeopardy. It's probably not B. That would also be hilarious if it's C. Highly doubt it's D. I've narrowed it down and I'll guess A.

A is my final answer.

No idea what it is...but I'm fairly certain he was asleep while it happened, so I don't think it would be A.  I doubt he wears a retainer or sleeps with a teddy bear, so as disturbing as it might sound, I'll say C...final answer. :)

I'm sort of second guessing myself now. At first, I wanted to jump the question, but I feel it's too early to be wasting two lifelines this early in the game. Just had to narrow it down and hope it's right.

Well, not everybody's going home, but that was pretty brave of all of you. :P The question was worth $5000 for those of you that got it, but the answer?

C.  That means we'll have to say goodbye to PurpleParrot319 and The Headless King early on.  Due to inactivity, The Viper is also forced to walk away.  I'm sorry that happened, but all three of you do get a few points added on to your cumulative scores:

Standings after 4 questions:
Purple Parrots Fan: $20,500 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Silver Monkey: $20,500 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Bandit King: $20,500 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Viper: $7500 total winnings

Standings after 5 questions:
Purple Parrots Fan: $27,500 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining

Thanks to its high salt content, the Great Salt Lake is often called "America's" what?

A: Panama Canal
B: Dead Sea
C: Strait of Magellan
D: Lake Geneva
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

Since both have a large amount of salt, I'll take a stab at this one and say B...final answer.

I'm gonna say B, final answer.

B, final.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on October 20, 2011, 06:22:38 AM
It is the Dead Sea.  And now for the real good news... Take a look at what your banks just jumped up to.

Standings after 8 questions:
Purple Parrots Fan: $62,600 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Silver Monkey: $62,600 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Bandit King: $62,600 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Viper: $7500 total winnings
The Headless King: $1000 total winnings
PurpleParrot319: $1000 total winnings

There are still two questions in Round 1; one's worth $2000 and the other $3000.  You'll get to take a look at the next one this evening.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on October 20, 2011, 07:17:58 PM
Well, it's Question #9 time.  As I said before, this one is worth either $2000 or $3000.  Keep track of the lifelines you have in case you need to use one or two here:

Quote
Which of the following has never been the title of an actual reality show?

A: Farmer Wants a Wife
B: Amish in the City
C: Dads in Drag
D: The Littlest Groom
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Bandit King on October 20, 2011, 08:02:11 PM
Damn...reality TV really is running low on ideas.

Anyhow, I've only heard of one of these, and since they all sound crazy enough to be real, I'd like to jump this question.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on October 20, 2011, 10:12:47 PM
As someone who watches reality shows, this is pretty easy to me. "Farmer Wants a Wife" was a short lived show on the CW back in 2008. I'm sort of familiar with "Amish in the City," even though I never watched it. I'm vaguely familiar with "The Littlest Groom," and I didn't watch that either.

The answer is C, final answer.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Silver Monkey on October 20, 2011, 10:24:14 PM
Dads in Drag DOES sound the most farfetched of the four, so I'll go with C, too.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on October 20, 2011, 10:29:24 PM
Well, in the world of reality TV, being too far-fetched might not really mean all that much. :P

But PPF nailed it; it was C anyway.  That one was worth $3000 to those of you who got it, so:

Standings after 9 questions:
Purple Parrots Fan: $65,600 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Silver Monkey: $65,600 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Bandit King: $62,600 in bank; Ask the Audience remaining
The Viper: $7500 total winnings
The Headless King: $1000 total winnings
PurpleParrot319: $1000 total winnings

The three of you are now only five questions away from the million and only a single question away from Round 2.  You've all got sizable banks at this point, meaning you could still walk away with over $30K for the session if it comes down to that.  But if you answer this next question correctly or jump it if you can, you can keep your entire bank.  We know the last question of Round 1 is worth $2000, and you'll get to see that question tomorrow afternoon. ;)
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on October 21, 2011, 01:01:07 PM
All right, so here's the final question of Round 1.  If anyone's still in the game after this one, Round 2 will be done quickly over the weekend, and then signups for Session 4 will open up.  As for right now, we know this question is worth $2000 if any of you three get it:

Quote
The mother of which of these world leaders was born in Brooklyn, New York?

A: Golda Meir
B: Winston Churchill
C: Fidel Castro
D: Nikita Khrushchev
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Bandit King on October 21, 2011, 08:43:33 PM
Hmm...I know Meir was Russian, so I can probably rule her out.  I don't think it's Castro or Khrushchev due to both their countries' rocky history with the U.S.  As such, I'll take a stab and say B...final answer.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on October 21, 2011, 09:21:46 PM
I truly have no idea on this one. I'm gonna jump the question.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

You guys are making me feel like an idiot since I'm no longer in this.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Silver Monkey on October 21, 2011, 10:30:15 PM
Since Churchill's Engilsh, that makes his mother seem to be the most likely one to have been born in Brooklyn. I'll take a shot at it and say B, final.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on October 21, 2011, 10:40:08 PM
It's funny, because I thought it was Golda Meir myself.  But TBK and TSM nailed it. :P So, that's $2000 to both of your banks, and since PPF jumped the question, all three of you have made it out of Round 1.  It's time to play Classic Millionaire!

Standings after 10 questions:
The Silver Monkey: $67,600 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
Purple Parrots Fan: $65,600 in bank; Ask the Audience remaining
The Bandit King: $64,600 in bank; Ask the Audience remaining
The Viper: $7500 total winnings
The Headless King: $1000 total winnings
PurpleParrot319: $1000 total winnings

So, only four questions left.  You know how things work, so let's get right into it. ;)

$100,000:
Quote
On a 2008 spacewalk, a U.S. astronaut dropped what $100,000 object, which floated away and later burned up in the atmosphere?

C: Flashlight
D: Tool bag
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on October 21, 2011, 11:02:53 PM
I have seen this question so many times, it's not even funny. But then again, my memory isn't all that great, so I hope this choice is still right.

The answer is D, final answer.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Bandit King on October 21, 2011, 11:24:00 PM
I thought this was so funny, and I asked myself why someone in their right mind would pay $100,000 for...

D, a tool bag. Final answer.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Silver Monkey on October 22, 2011, 12:45:32 AM
Yeah, $100,000 for a tool bag is certainly excessive, but it is D, final.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on October 22, 2011, 12:50:53 AM
Okay, I'm really amazed by how you guys just keep getting one after another here. The answer is D, which boosts all of you up to the next level:

Standings after 11 questions:
The Silver Monkey: $100,000 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
Purple Parrots Fan: $100,000 in bank; Ask the Audience remaining
The Bandit King: $100,000 in bank; Ask the Audience remaining
The Viper: $7500 total winnings
The Headless King: $1000 total winnings
PurpleParrot319: $1000 total winnings

$250,000:

Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on October 22, 2011, 11:36:58 AM
All right, so nobody decided to answer that question.  Admittedly it was a really hard one, but the answer was A: 454 million.  So, at this point, we now have only one player left in the game:

Standings after 12 questions:
The Silver Monkey: $100,000 in bank; Ask the Audience remaining
Purple Parrots Fan: $100,000 total winnings
The Bandit King: $100,000 total winnings
The Viper: $7500 total winnings
The Headless King: $1000 total winnings
PurpleParrot319: $1000 total winnings

There's two questions to go, so let's take a look at the half-million-dollar question:

$500,000:
Quote
The longest-reigning monarch in world history ruled for over what nation for more than half a century?

A: Thailand
B: France

D: Liechtenstein

Time to ask the audience.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on October 22, 2011, 03:52:15 PM
All right, then.  Here's the results:

Quote
A: Thailand: 44%
B: France: 28%
C: Swaziland: 19%
D: Liechtenstein: 9%

$100,000 is still an excellent score if that's not doing it for you. :P

Title: Re: Question of the Day?

Well, that wraps up Session 3.  The answer, by the way, was actually Swaziland— a few-months-old Sobkhuza II gained to the right to the throne in 1899 and ruled until his death in 1982.

Final standings for Session 3:
The Silver Monkey: $100,000 total winnings
Purple Parrots Fan: $100,000 total winnings
The Bandit King: $100,000 total winnings
The Viper: $7500 total winnings
The Headless King: $1000 total winnings
PurpleParrot319: $1000 total winnings

Cumulative scores:
The Silver Monkey: $1,101,000
The Headless King: $502,000
The Bandit King: $375,050
Purple Parrots Fan: $126,000
PurpleParrot319: $27,000
The Viper: $7500
JTH1: $1000

Session 4, anyone? :P

Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on October 24, 2011, 01:05:07 PM
Okay, so it looks like we've got at least five people participating in this session.  The money and question difficulties have been randomized for Round 1, and each of you gets the three lifelines to start off:

Participants in Session 4:
Purple Parrots Fan: $0 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question lifelines remaining
PurpleParrot319: $0 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question lifelines remaining
The Headless King: $0 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question lifelines remaining
The Silver Monkey: $0 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question lifelines remaining
The Bandit King: $0 in bank; Ask the Audience and two Jump the Question lifelines remaining

As with the last session, anyone else may still choose to join before the answer to this first question is revealed, but if you do, just remember that you'll need to be around to answer one question every day for the next two weeks.  That said, here's the first question of Session 4:

Quote
After retiring from basketball, Michael Jordan played one season of Minor League baseball and hit how many home runs in his 436 at-bats?

A: Zero
B: One
C: Two
D: Three
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Headless King on October 24, 2011, 06:32:58 PM
My inclination is to say A: Zero, but I'm not too sure and I don't want to risk going out on the first question.

I'll jump this question.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: PurpleParrot319 on October 24, 2011, 07:36:32 PM
I honestly have no clue. I want to say 0, but it could be 1, 2, or 3.

I hate to do this so early, but I'll have to jump this question. :(
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

I think I'll jump too...I honestly have no idea.

Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on October 25, 2011, 11:27:55 AM
Can't blame everyone, honestly.  The answer was not A, but rather D: Three.

Participants in Session 4:
Purple Parrots Fan: $0 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
PurpleParrot319: $0 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Headless King: $0 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Silver Monkey: $0 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Bandit King: $0 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining

You know how Jump the Question is like a double-edged sword, since the money behind the question is no longer available to you.  The bad news is the question was worth $25K, but the good news is none of you got knocked out on the first question and are all closer to the million.  The second question will be coming some time this afternoon, so keep an eye on this topic for it.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: PurpleParrot319 on October 25, 2011, 12:17:53 PM
Damn, no wonder that one was worth $25,000. I NEVER would've guessed three!

Really, I thought MJ was bad at baseball. Three home runs isn't too bad, especially for an elite NBA player like him.

Pretty much this. :o
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on October 25, 2011, 06:01:09 PM
Actually, that one was just worth $25,000 by coincidence.  In the older formats, it probably would've had to be worth that, but the money values are no longer tied to the question's difficulty.  The easiest question in Round 1 could be worth the most, the hardest worth the least or anything in between.  You've basically got to hope for the smaller money on the harder questions and the bigger money on the ones you can answer, and predict how much you might be jumping over if you have to jump.  Keep all of that in mind as you decide whether or not answer this question:

Quote
"Kummerspeck," the German word used to describe weight gained from emotional overeating, translates to what in English?

A: Grief bacon
B: Agony butter
C: Emptiness cake
D: Torment candy
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Headless King on October 25, 2011, 06:41:25 PM
Damn, I don't know enough German to answer this.  I think I can narrow it to A and C, because people usually overeat because of Grief or Emptiness, not Agony or Torment.

As much as I don't want to, I'm gonna have to use my other Jump the Question.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Bandit King on October 25, 2011, 07:49:26 PM
Foreign language, my old nemesis...why must you torment me so?!

Okay, let's break it down...people usually overeat because they're unhappy, so it's probably A or C. And since I'm pretty sure "cake" in German is "Kuchen", I can rule C out.  By process of elimination, I'll take a stab at this one and say A.  Final...
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

I don't want to lose another lifeline, either, so I'm going with A, too.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

How ironic it would be if this time around, me and THK continue on, but the other three get eliminated.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on October 25, 2011, 10:09:04 PM
Well, I figure I might as well give the translations for all four here, in case any of you were curious.  You'll probably realize why the figure of speech is what it is.

Quote
A: Kummerspeck
B: Peinenbutter
C: Leerheitskuchen
D: Qualenschmaus

Luckily for those of you who jumped, you didn't lose out on as much money this time.  This question was worth $500 to each of you that got it:

Standings after 2 questions:
The Silver Monkey: $500 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Bandit King: $500 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
Purple Parrots Fan: $500 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
PurpleParrot319: $0 in bank; Ask the Audience remaining
The Headless King: $0 in bank; Ask the Audience remaining

To be fair, in the actual show, it's very rare for contestants to get to Round 2 and still have a lifeline available.  There's been six $250K winners so far under the shuffle format, and only one of them actually had a lifeline left going into Round 2.  So it's possible for any of you to turn it around after a rough start (keep in mind questions this hard could've shown up at any point in the two weeks, but there should be easier ones lying around), but I think this shows I'm getting better at my role in the whole game. :P

It's B.  The $2000 behind this one should help build everyone's banks:

The Silver Monkey: $2500 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Bandit King: $2500 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining

Well, four questions down, ten to go, six of which are still in Round 1.

Remaining money in Round 1:
$15,000
$7000
$5000
$3000
$1000
$100

Just in case you end up busy this weekend, you do have until Monday to figure out the answer to this question:

Quote

Well, it is C.  I can understand why some of you were hesitant, though. :P Anyhow, the money ended up in the same spot after randomization this time, so that's $3000 more to everybody's bank, and everybody is still in the game after the first half of Round 1.  The second half starts Monday!

Standings after 5 questions:

All right, the second week of Session 4 is starting today, and there's still nine questions separating you from the million.  Here's the next one:

Quote
Because they are believed to stay youthful by drawing fuel from neighboring stars, scientists have given blue straggler stars what nickname?

A: Frankenstein stars
B: Werewolf stars
C: Vampire stars
D: Mummy stars

Umm.  Yeah, C  is the only one that remotely makes sense.

C, final answer.

I'm gonna say C, final answer.

EDIT: Post 24,200!

Has to be C...final answer.

Yeah, C makes the most sense. Final answer.

C it is, and that's another $1000 in your banks for all of you.

Standings after 6 questions:
The Silver Monkey: $16,500 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
The Bandit King: $16,500 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
Purple Parrots Fan: $16,500 in bank; Ask the Audience and one Jump the Question remaining
PurpleParrot319: $16,000 in bank; Ask the Audience remaining
The Headless King: $16,000 in bank; Ask the Audience remaining

You're now eight questions away from the million.  Here's the next one:

Quote

A: The Times of London
B: The Irish Times
C: The Chicago Sun-Times
D: The New York Times

I've got a guess, but I'm not too sure, so let's see if the audience can help me here.

I honestly have no clue on this one. :(

As much as it pains me, I'll use my last Jump the Question on this one.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: PurpleParrot319 on November 01, 2011, 08:27:49 PM
Another tough one. I'll have to use my last lifeline, ask the audience.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

I'm gonna jump this question.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

I'm going to have to burn my other jump, too. :(
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on November 01, 2011, 11:14:16 PM
Well, there were some interesting mixed results on this one.  Three of you jumped, but the other two decided to ask the audience and then take a chance.  The results, in case the rest of you were curious, were 31%-18%-14%-37%, and both PP319 and THK decided to go with the second-highest choice, A.

Both of them got it right.  The $15,000 was hiding behind that question; so that's a great job for those of you who got it and unfortunate for those of you who decided to jump.  Either way, everyone's still in the game and halfway to the million now.

Standings after 7 questions:
PurpleParrot319: $31,000 in bank; no lifelines remaining
The Headless King: $31,000 in bank; no lifelines remaining
The Silver Monkey: $16,500 in bank; Ask the Audience remaining
The Bandit King: $16,500 in bank; Ask the Audience remaining
Purple Parrots Fan: $16,500 in bank; Ask the Audience remaining

What happens if I decide to walk away before Classic Millionaire? I'm not saying I will, but you never know.

If you walk away during Round 1, you get half of your bank rather than all of it.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on November 02, 2011, 12:54:46 AM
Darn, I had a feeling it was A or D, the two highest audience percentages. I guess this is what I get for second guessing myself. :(
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Headless King on November 02, 2011, 06:14:12 AM
I was already going between A and D so the Ask the Audience really didn't help me all that much.

All right, here comes Question #8 for you guys:

Quote
What is the lowest sum of U.S. paper money you can have with three different presidents pictured on the front?

A: $6
B: $8
C: $13
D: $16
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: PurpleParrot319 on November 02, 2011, 04:02:19 PM
It can't be A, but it can be the other three. It all comes down to who is on the money. I know some money don't have President faces on them, so this is tricky. I really don't want to walk away.

That being said, I'll say B. I think the $1, $2, and $5 bills have a President on them. B, final answer.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Headless King on November 02, 2011, 07:17:12 PM
I know Washington is on the $1 bill and Lincoln is on the $5 bill.  With that, it can only be B or D.  If I remember correctly, I think James Madison is on the $2 bill, though I'm not 100% sure.  But the other thing is I'm pretty sure Alexander Hamilton is on the $10 bill and he was never president.  If that's true, it can't be D, leaving B as the only possibility.

I'll go for it.  B, final answer.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Bandit King on November 02, 2011, 07:38:31 PM
$1 plus $2 plus $5 equals $8.

B, final answer.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Silver Monkey on November 02, 2011, 07:38:59 PM
Jefferson's on the $2 bill, I believe. Therefore, B, final.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

Like everyone else.... B, final answer.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on November 02, 2011, 08:11:49 PM
Yup, it was B.  Not so hard if you remember the $2 bill. :P This question ended up being worth $5000, and since everybody got it:

Standings after 8 questions:
PurpleParrot319: $36,000 in bank; no lifelines remaining
The Headless King: $36,000 in bank; no lifelines remaining
The Silver Monkey: $21,500 in bank; Ask the Audience remaining
The Bandit King: $21,500 in bank; Ask the Audience remaining
Purple Parrots Fan: $21,500 in bank; Ask the Audience remaining

Two questions left in Round 1.  One is worth $100, the other $7000.  You'll get a look at the next one tomorrow.

Post by: The Ancient Warrior on November 03, 2011, 06:24:32 PM
As I said before, there are only two more questions in Round 1, and this question is worth either $100 or $7000.  Take a look:

Quote
Before breaking into Hollywood, what follicly-challenged celeb was, oddly enough, a hair stylist in his sister's beauty salon?

A: Stanley Tucci
B: Vin Diesel
C: Danny DeVito
D: Bruce Willis
Title: Re: Question of the Day?

I have absolutely no clue.  If I had to guess, I'd say C, but I'm gonna walk.

Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: PurpleParrot319 on November 03, 2011, 08:46:33 PM
I think "follicly" (is that even spelled correctly?) has something to do with hair. I'm not into actors, but I think C and D have hair. I have never heard of A before. I'm pretty sure B Vin Diesel has no hair and because of "follicly-challenged", I'm leaning towards B. I got no lifelines, but I've got guts of steal! I'm going to make B my final answer.
Title: Re: Question of the Day?
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on November 03, 2011, 09:57:06 PM
All right, so I've gotten everybody's final decisions now.  The correct answer for that one was C: Danny DeVito.  Unfortunately, that means we lost a couple players, while two others decided to walk away.  I'm willing to give TSM the benefit of the doubt for now, but admittedly I'm just getting a little suspicious.  But as it stands:

Standings after 9 questions:
The Silver Monkey: $21,600 in bank; no lifelines remaining
The Headless King: $18,000 total winnings
Purple Parrots Fan: $10,750 total winnings
PurpleParrot319: $1000 total winnings
The Bandit King: $1000 total winnings

The last question in Round 1 is worth $7000, and will be shown for TSM tomorrow.

I guess this is the one time chickening out pays off. I honestly thought the answer was Bruce Willis. It was between him and Danny DeVito for me.

On a funnier note, the contestant who got that question on yesterday's show decided to jump it, but Meredith was ready to tell him she knew it was Bruce Willis... until the answer actually came up. Anyway, with TSM as the only contestant left, this question is for him.  We know it's worth $7000.

All right, then it looks like that's it for Session 4.  The answer, by the way, was C: Muggles.  The score here is an interesting case, because the highest-scoring player was not the one that made it the furthest this time around. :o

Final standings for Session 4:
The Headless King: $18,000 total winnings
The Silver Monkey: $10,800 total winnings
Purple Parrots Fan: $10,750 total winnings
PurpleParrot319: $1000 total winnings
The Bandit King: $1000 total winnings

Total scores overall:
The Silver Monkey: $1,111,800
The Headless King: $520,000
The Bandit King: $376,050
Purple Parrots Fan: $136,750
PurpleParrot319: $28,000
The Viper: $7500
JTH1: $1000

I might start Session 5 next Monday, but as the quiz master I'm starting to get a little bored.  Give me a little while to make up my mind, okay? :P

On a funnier note, the contestant who got that question on yesterday's show decided to jump it, but Meredith was ready to tell him she knew it was Bruce Willis... until the answer actually came up.
So that's why I kept confusing the answer with Bruce Willis instead of Danny Devito. :P

Oh, and if you do decide to do a Session 5, I'll totally sign up again.
