Title: Anybody own Little Big Planet?
Post by: PurpleParrot319 on June 25, 2011, 03:49:08 PM
Just curious. Right now, I'm trying to create a level with a Legends theme to it. I should probably get all the items first, so this might take some time before it's completed, if I do complete it.

Also, I'm curious if anyone else here has tried this.

Actually, I've had one in the works based on the Season 3 layout, but I haven't gotten around to finishing it.  I've got the rooms from the entrance to the central column.

Do you think I should get all the collectable items before I continue?

Certainly not ALL of them, but as many as you can would help a lot.

Ok, with what I got, I'm trying to design the season 3 temple layout. Earlier tonight, I put some extra touches on Olmec, made him say "You could start by running up the stairs into the Crypt" and I inserted the first two rooms (Crypt and Ledges). The Ledges are kind of poorly designed (I might edit that later on), but for the Crypt, I collected a skeleton collectable and I put in three of those. Now I just got to make them talk somehow. I don't think my progress is bad, but it could be better. After all, this is some pretty technical stuff I'm dealing with.

Wait, are you doing it in LittleBIGPlanet 1 or 2?  I have both and it seems much easier to make with LBP 2, which I'm using for mine.  I'm still working out the kinks with The Chamber of the Sacred Markers.

LBP 1. What makes making the temple much easier in 2 than in 1?
Title: Re: Anybody own Little Big Planet?
Post by: The Headless King on July 09, 2011, 01:05:39 AM
Not just making a temple, making any level is quite easier in 2, mostly because I feel like the controls and logic is generally easier to figure out.  Plus more powerups than just the jetpack and paintinator.

I should get back to doing this again. Too bad I got classes right now. :x

THK, is it possible that you show us what your Temple looks like? You can show your temple for both games if you'd like.

Oh, geez.  I should really get back to that.  I guess I could get some pictures or videos of what I have so far.

I just did some further work with my level.  So far, I have the entrance rooms, the Pit of the Pendulum, and the entire central column working exactly the way I want it to.

Here's a video of what I've got.  I don't really have a good capture device so I had to use the webcam on my laptop.  There's also a bit of audio lag.

Wow, that's way better than what I've come up with so far. I guess I should acquire more items if my temple is to look like yours. ;)

Are you going to put temple guards in your temple?
Title: Re: Anybody own Little Big Planet?
Post by: The Headless King on September 12, 2011, 09:10:05 PM
Oh, definitely.  It might be a little tough to figure out a system, though.  I'd have to make sure that the first and third guards are harmless, but make it so the second temple guard you encounter kills your guy so you have to start back at the entrance.
Title: Re: Anybody own Little Big Planet?
Post by: PurpleParrot319 on September 12, 2011, 10:28:40 PM
It would be interesting to see if you could put a guard in the Room of the Ancient Warriors. Maybe make an enemy (resembling a temple guard) pop out of thin air? Maybe that could be the second guard, one that instantly kills you by landing on you or something like that.

I've now successfully implemented the Temple Guard system.

Awesome! You still working on the Dark Forest, Shrine, Password, and Bog? When those are done, I can't wait to see and possibly even play it.

Here are two more ideas to think of: timer and background music. I'm sure you can come up with a timer easily, but is it possible to put in the temple run music from the show? I'd love it if you somehow found a way to put it in there. I think we would all love it if that happens.
Title: Re: Anybody own Little Big Planet?
Post by: PurpleParrot319 on September 22, 2011, 06:40:00 PM
Oh, and before I forget, I have a question. What LBP game is that for? 1 or 2? I hope it's 1 because that's the only one I have. Though I won't mind buying 2. ;)
Title: Re: Anybody own Little Big Planet?
Post by: The Headless King on September 22, 2011, 06:52:33 PM
It's on LBP 2.  Sorry, but a lot of the tools that make this possible are only available on LBP 2.

A timer will be very easy to put in, and I believe it is possible to download music files from a computer onto the PS3 and subsequently onto the game.

And yeah, still working on the last four rooms.  I've spent most of the last few days focusing on the temple guards so I haven't done much with the last rooms yet.  The only thing I should need after I do those rooms is a system for bringing the artifact out of the temple.  I'd just need a grab sensor on the object that unlocks the rest of the doors and a tag sensor to recognize that the player has returned with the artifact.

As of today, my level is now complete.  Now I'm just working on making it look good (Adding smoke machines, creating backdrops, etc.).

Title: Re: Anybody own Little Big Planet?
Post by: The Headless King on October 26, 2011, 04:45:02 AM
It's getting there.  I just haven't had a lot of time to work on it.  With all my homework, I can only work on it on the weekends now.

There's a lot of stylistic concepts that I have implement, but all the rooms are working just fine.

Here it is:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1fDjB1XkAM

Unfortunately the music can't be put into the level, so I just added it in to the video.  Also, during the video I had some troubles with the Chamber of the Sacred Markers and the Shrine of the Silver Monkey.  I'll have to work out some glitches.

All I have left to finish the level is:
Prizes
Olmec
A Kirk Fogg sackbot
Scripting
Backdrops
Debugging

Yeah, once I get a finished version, I'll switch the layout to where I have to go through just about every room, that way I can show how all of them work.

It's possible for me to get multiple configurations.  All I'd have to do is switch around a few controls to make different doors open.

I just used Windows Live Movie Maker to add in the MP3 file to the video.  As to how I got the MP3 file, it's a wonderful program called Freecorder that lets me record any sound my computer makes.  I just recorded one of the Youtube videos out there that has the music.

It's pretty much a form of pirating, except it's completely legal.

It sounds like you're using the YouTube Download Tool.  I actually used the Record Audio Tool.  If you want it as a video, I don't think it matters which format you save it as.  If you want it as a sound file, I suggest using the Record Audio Tool instead.

There's no reason it shouldn't be able to.  By default, it records audio as MP3 files.

The Viper, thank you very much for welcoming me. I have several levels for the first LBP, and I was working on a Legends level for LBP2, however my PS3 power supply died on me so I had to send it to get fixed. Thankfully it is fixed and currently on its way back to me. When it returns I'll record it and post it on YouTube. And once again, thank you for welcoming me. :D

I also must say I like your concept of The Treasury of Golden Orbs. That makes the room a challenge, which it should be. I would've loved to see how the Lightning Ball Room works, but that's fine.

The one big problem I see in that temple is that there are a lot of steps to jump onto at the starting gate. I think that slows the run down a lot.
Title: Re: Anybody own Little Big Planet?
Post by: Rikarrae on November 22, 2011, 03:28:31 PM
Your temple is very well-designed! I like how you made the temple look as accurate as possible. Plus, for once, the Silver Monkey looks like it's legitimately difficult!

There is just one little issue that I noticed: during Olmec's description of the temple rooms, you spelled "Mine Shaft" incorrectly.  :P

I can't wait to play it. Now, if I could just give my character an adorable little helmet, silver shirt, and some gloves/elbow pads, I would be ready to go!

Title: Re: Anybody own Little Big Planet?

PurpleParrot319, you don't know how much I hate those steps too. Lol. I have been try to redesign them, like maybe add in extra steps where the gaps are, or just scrap it for a ramp lol. And for the Lightning Ball Room, I would have went through there, but the problem was there was a Temple Guard in the Mine Shaft (shh, I never said that).  And Rikarrae, you don't know how offten I do spelling mistakes (watch it again at the end of the temple description "the choices are 'your' and yours alone").

I'lll post another video with all the rooms I made and how to complete them when I get a chance

About your idea of the Temple Run music. I have it in my levels, someone made it (who though I can't remember), but if you search "Legends of the Hidden Temple" on LBP2, somewhere in that list of levels is a level with a pic of a floppy disc. Play that level and you'll get the music.

I haven't uploaded it yet.  I haven't spent a lot of time on it because I got too much into other video games, namely Mortal Kombat.  I think I'm gonna have to start working on that again, but once I do get it uploaded, I'll tell you what you need to know.  And I'll try to make sure that happens soon.

But basically, there are absolutely no requirements and you only need one controller.  I made the system so that once two guards are met, control switches to the second runner without having to switch controllers.  Although that might be a good idea to implement a two-player mode where one controller takes the first runner and the other controller takes the second runner.

No, the runners themselves are sackbots that were built into my level.  The player (you) is in a off-screen controlinator that makes the sackbots move.

You can actually win it as a solo run, believe it or not.

Never mind, I made that one hard myself.

Instead of starting in Medusa's Lair, I started in the Observatory and went into the King's Storeroom. Once that was completed, I was expecting the Swamp to open, but it didn't. I check the Shrine (room with the artifact) and that wasn't open. Then I realize "Oh, I'm a dumbass!" I should've realized that was going to be a trick. Medusa's Lair opened and I wasted my entire run in these rooms.

Oh I see, you need to use the Poppit. Go to Stickers and you will see Switch Triggers. Sadly, of the four required markers, I only have one. :(

Maybe it's because you don't have the matching stickers/symbols.

It takes practice, that's for sure.

And have you tried the Ultimate Double Dare level yet? So much fun! There are a couple of obstacles (there are 20 of them by the way) that piss me off. The first one is the Garbage Truck. As expected, that one is a challenge. The second one is the Wringer. So hard to get in between those spinning drums. The last one is the one where you pull the balloons to the ground. That's the one before the ear obstacle at the very end. So time consuming and pretty hard. At least he didn't include the PB&J sandwich.

Oh my god, I just figured out how I can put the heads-up display into my level.  :o  It will take a little bit to get it implemented, but I think this is the finishing touch I've been looking for.  Once I get this in, I will upload the level.

It's the timer, map of the temple, and pendants graphics that show during the temple run.

Hey everyone! I just got back to a laptop, and I hope (after seeing the chat about my levels) that you all like them.

I am currently working on fixing the Silver Monkey to make it more simpler. I originally had it just like the show and then changed it into what their currently is now, but I am trying to make it more easy.

The "elevator" from the Tomb to the Shrine, that is 100% my bad. That was a rough draft for my LBP1 levels that I really didn't put thought into and never got around to changing. I did fix it for LBP2, and I'll go back and change it in LBP1 when I get a chance.

I still don't understand the dying in Medusa's Lair. Its happened to me a few times, but I can't figure out why.

And for the original Sacred Markers, that needs the stickers from LBP1 to work. I had PP319 try to use the sticker remover to bring it to the other side, but sadly no luck. I did redo the Sacred Markers for the LBP2 verson, so I hope its easier then the other one. (Sorry THK, I used your idea for that room.)

I just put up 2 more levels... 1 of them (Besty Ross's Spool of Thread), is a Half Pendant Mode level. if you don't find the other half, red mist completely engulfs the Temple.

I hope I can make the levels more enjoyable for you all. Now if you excuse me, I have to go celebrate a Boston Bruins victory over the Calgary Flames (9-0!! What a win!!!!)

Goodnight everyone

Don't worry about it.  In my book, borrowing concepts is okay as long as they're not the main selling points.

This weekend, I'll have another chance to play these levels online. This will be the last weekend before I start my next college semester. I go back Tuesday.

So THK, how is the level coming along? Is it almost done? Sorry if it seems like I'm rushing you.

This elevator you're talking about. Is that the one where you grab the up-and-down ball to get into the Shrine? If so, then the elevator from a run like "The Wax Seal of Henry VIII" should totally replace those balls. I think I only managed to get into the Shrine with the ball once or twice. Although the Mine Shaft look-alike elevator is slow, at least it's efficient. Have you tried putting steps in that area?
Title: Re: Anybody own Little Big Planet?
Post by: PurpleParrot319 on January 13, 2012, 08:18:37 PM
Did I really just say that? That elevator is also defective. I'm trying the Betsy Ross layout now and twice I accidentally went on top of the elevator and got crushed to death. I also was underneath it when the elevator came down and crushed me. How about this idea? Why not just have the square elevator on the bottom to take you up (make sure it doesn't go back down once it reaches the top) and when it comes time to go down to the room below, just have the ball and string (for the runs these apply to)? I mean, it's easy to ride down holding onto the ball, but when it comes time to get into the square elevator, it's very hard to get in! Sometimes I have to go into the Secret Password to advance because of that damn elevator.

And that leads me to my next problem: busting through the wall to get into the Dark Forest. This also takes away valuable time because sometimes the bricks end up blocking my path once plowed through or pulled. The bricks end up getting stuck in between the left tree's left arm, blocking the path. I have to end up pulling the bricks out of the way, costing time. Maybe you can make the wall easier to break through? Maybe fix the left tree's left arm in some way?

Here's another one: fitting between the gap of the right tree's right arm when trying to enter the Jester's Court. This has happened quite a few times actually, and it's unintentional. Is there anyway to fix this? This wastes time too.

My next problem concerns the Rock Quarry. I've died here a few times for some unknown reason. When I try to fly and put a rock into the bucket, I end up getting killed. It's a rare problem, but one that you might want to look into. Also, I've never experienced a death in Medusa's Lair. How does that happen?

One last thing. I tried out the new Chamber of the Sacred Markers and it works, but here's the problem: when I first attempted this redesign of the Chamber, I wasted over 2 minutes trying to complete it. This resulted in a bad loss, and it made Katie from Lily-Crested Crown look like a goddess. I was wondering if you could post a video of how to complete this room in strong fashion and maybe provide useful tips on what to do and what not to do.

You don't have to fix all these problems right away. Take your time.

EDIT: okay, I just died in Medusa's Lair. Going for the jet pack and when it sends me up, it sends me up to the step and it crushes me. This just happened to me two times in a row.

Yeah. I'm deffinatly replacing those "elevators" in LBP1 when I get a chance, and I'm deffinatly making it a grab-active elevator..... If grab-active is a word. I made an elevator like that for a Legends level (a level that will never, ever see the light of day (it was a very badly made level)), and I never thought of putting that design in. Course it would have been easier.

For The Dark Forrest, I', gonna try and make the wall between the Forrest/Mindshaft smaller for starters so their isn't 2 sets of "rocks" and possibly make them out of a different material. That should also help with the rocks getting stuck on the tree's arm.

As for the other tree, I'm gonna try and tweak the arm so it's turned towards the ground more so jumping into The Jester's Court is easier and bringing the key to the door isn't a problems either.

As for The Rock Quarry, I put black gas (the stuff that comes down when you hit a 2nd Guard) in the bucket near the top. Theirs a counter in the bucket which is activated every time a rock drops in. The gas is there so no one can use 1 rock to activate the counter 5 times. They're gonna have to use 5 different rocks, just like how Olmec tells them lol

The Chamber I tried to make just likes THK's. I'm gonna try and post a video on how to do the room easier. My laptop is acting funny and I just got a new job that I start Tuesday, so I'm most likely gonna be awhile with that.

And for Medusa's Lair, try climbing up the left side of the ladder to get to the jet pack. I'll probably move that onto the wall so that the crushing death doesn't happen.

Hey, just a slight update. I'm remaking the ball elevator to look just like the elevator from the newer LBP2 levels. This one is gonna be grabable (again, grabable a word? I think, but I don't know). Anyway, that should stop the crushing deaths and the annoyance of being unable to gt into the Shrine from the Tomb.

I'm also working on the rock wall, but that's gonna be a LBP2 only update since I don't have the Dark Forrest in the other levels from LBP1.

The arm of the tree has been moved a bit, and if that doesn't work I'll put a piece of glass there to prevent jumpping on the arm.

And the jet pack in Medusa's Lair has been moved to cover the Temple Guard's door's non-existant peephole.

I have to work from 8 until noon tomorrow, so when I get home from that I'll fix some more stuff.

Hey, I'm stuck without a PS3 again. My trophy data is screwed up and won't let me play anything. But could someone go play LBP 1 or 2 and see if my levels are still up there. I don't know if they're up there or not still. And if they are, are they under the name "AmazingRed" or "MadMan322"?

Thank you

Well, the verdict is in..... And while the levels are all intact, the trophy data is still screwed up and the only way to play on my profile is if I delete EVERYTHING from that profile. Instead of everyone losing my stupidity, I'm gonna leave that profile the way it is and start an all new profile and that means a much needed update to the Temple. All I need to do is beat both LBP 1 and 2 again (o joy) and the update will start after that.

Okay, more than two years after I started the level.  I'm back to working on it.

I kinda rage quit initially because I found out the way I was trying to create the HUD wasn't going to work.  Well, my little brother pulled me back into LittleBIGPlanet earlier this week, so I'm finally going to finish that level because I found a new way to make the HUD work for sure.  Plus, I've been working on backdrops for the rooms just so it looks better.

Everything I need to finish it, I know how to do.  It's just that it's quite a bit of work, and I'm kind of lazy, but I'm going to do my best to just finish the damn thing once and for all.

THK, I got pulled back in too, I completed remade my Legends levels from scratch after the death of my XxAmazingRedxX profile. Olmec is bigger, badder, and Olmec-er. I fixed the trees, the "elevator" that connects the Shrine/Forest passage and the stone wall. The Sacred Markers is a bit easier. The Shrine should be a bit easier. The Temple Guards follow you when activated, no more dancing. However, my nephew was over recently and he used my PS3 the entire summer and during the last few weeks to the point that my PS3 won't even read a game now. 8am till like 12-1am. Once it gets fixed (AGAIN!), I will post the levels.

And then, I had also made a brand new Ultimate Double Dare Obstacle Course. Much, much, MUCH more detailed then the last. I took out a few obstacles and replaced them with better ones and updated the ones I kept. The flags look way better too (those triangles sucked lol).

I also made a GUTS! Aggro Crag. It's not my best work, but it's a level I always wanted to make. It's got the same surprises and tricks that the actual version has, and I even threw in the My Family's Got GUTS victory zip line at the end. You also get the logo and the trophy for successfully defeating and completing the level.

When I get back on the game, I'll upload them and let you know.

Figure I'll throw this out there in case anyone wants to take a look.

I finally got back to working on LBP and posted a brand new level. With the way LBP3 works, it was a lot easier than the past levels I made. Take a look and enjoy.
