Title: The Best Legends Team: Mathematically Proven!
Post by: The Mandarin Hand on August 12, 2009, 12:58:17 PM
I created a scorecard system to determine the best team ever on the show.  Here's how the scoring worked.

THE MOAT
- 20pts for 1st, 15pts for 2nd, 10pts for 3rd, 5pts for 4th
- 2pt deduction for every 30 seconds that elapses

THE STEPS OF KNOWLEDGE
- 11pts for the first question right, 10pts for the second, all the way down to 1pt for the eleventh question right
- 2pt deduction for an incorrect question

THE TEMPLE GAMES
- 10pts for winning a half-pendant game
- 20pts for winning a full-pendant game
- 10pts for winning a tie-breaker
- 5pts for winning a tie-breaker via the other team getting it wrong

THE TEMPLE
- 25pts for grabbing the artifact
- 25pts for getting it out of the Temple
- 10pts for finding and picking up the hidden half-pendant
- 15pt deduction for taking an incorrect route

The maximum number of points as such is 140 (20 Moat + 30 Steps + 40 Games + 50 Temple).  While 145 _is_ possible (20 + 30 + 30 + 10 + 60 Temple) for teams with 1.5 Pendants, it never happened.

And now, here we go:  the countdown of the twenty best Legends teams!

I had a feeling it'd be Kelly and Tony at the top. :P

Well it's definitely "Kelley".  (This friendly edit brought to you by RP!)

Cool list, Former RP, now TMH!!! BTW, I'm just curious, why the sudden name change?

I wanted a name more relevant to the show, and everyone would still know who I am by this handle.

Also, I'm trying to fade away from the RP name all over the internet.

Oh, that's great, TMH!!! But Please don't yell at me if I goof and call you RP, as I will probably do so in the next few days! OK?

Now, back on topic, that was a very complex scoring system that you made, TMH. Did it take you long to formulate it, or was it more of a slam-dunk?

I basically worked it out so, ideally, you earned 20 points in the Moat, 30 in the Steps, 40 for the Games, and 50 for the Run.

How about adding the amount of time left to their scores, as in every second is one point?

Because then the Shaka Zulu team beelines ahead of everyone else.  (Edit by The Mandarin Hand, because I sometimes hit edit instead of quote.)

Also, add difficulty of room (and not just objective/actuator), I mean like pull one vine, pull one book, grab a piece of the monkey, getting back to the platform.

So I made a mistake.  The Lost Hornpipe team got deductions (going the wrong way, only having 1 1/2 pendants), so they don't even make the top 20 anymore with their new score of 106.

The Jewel-Encrusted Egg of Catherine the Great moves into 20th with 116 points.

And for those who cared to know, The Secret Map of the Bandit Queen had 109.  Fourth place in the moat + 1 pendant killed them.

Well, you can't win 'em all, can you?

No you can't TBK. :D

By the way, shouldn't we also add Tempe Game difficulty. This might be stressing you a little to much, right, TMH? lol

While we're at it, why not add points for how beautiful the names were and what community service each did and who high-fived the most and who hit the gong the hardest and who went to the best colleges and who smiled the most and who has the most expensive house and who plays backgammon the best and who eats the best breakfast on Tuesdays?

Sorry, didn't know.

But Erica and Jeremy are high on the list. Seems a bit unfair, even if they had 2 pendants.

And why can't it be half the points for a tie?

Also, some people take the incorrect route, but still make it. Do you have to deduct points for that?

And another thing, do you have to deduct points for every 30 seconds crossing the moat?

Just my thoughts, sorry for the bump, and if I sound rude.

Btw, Lacey and Asher were 4th in the Moat, so your calculations might be wrong.

Personally, I think it's best as it is.  I mean, I can see people trying to add in parameters such as the number of rooms to the artifact, the amount of time left and the overall difficulty of the Temple and Temple Games, but that's a LOT of work.  TMH's system is fairly simple and pretty good with how it was set up; I really don't think making it more precise would be the way to go.

By the way, Lacey and Asher also got a pendant and a half in the Temple Games, won a tiebreaker, and also found the hidden half pendant.  They're the only team to do both those last two things.

And their performance in the Steps helped.
