Title: Wild Jungle EP: The Incorrect Map of Ptolemy
Post by: The Bamboo Forest on July 29, 2009, 12:23:11 AM

The camera makes its way through lush greenery, and the palms move away as ambient animal noises are heard. Portions of a temple are shown, and suddenly the jungle ends, and we see Olmec?s face light up and shout, ?LEGENDS OF THE HIDDEN TEMPLE!?

The show?s title card?a pendant of life?crashes together on the screen, and the camera shifts to focus on the temple and its rooms. ?With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is now!?

The pendant splinters and Kirk is seen crawling out of the Jungle Crevice to run right into the center of the stage and up the Steps of Knowledge as he begins his narration.

?Thank you, thank you!? says Kirk. ?It's nice to see you! Thank you, Olmec. Welcome to the Hidden Temple. The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards. Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple. Which one are we going to hear about today??

Olmec replies, ?The Legend of The Incorrect Map of Ptolemy!?

?Whoa, the Incorrect Map of Ptolemy!? says Kirk. ?Well, the legend is set and one of these six teams will have the chance to retrieve the rope. Will it be The Red Jaguars??

At this point, the camera focuses on each team as they are introduced.

?The Blue Barracudas??
?The Green Monkeys??
?The Orange Iguanas??
?The Purple Parrots??
?Or the Silver Snakes??

?They?re going to have to pass some tough mental and physical tests,? continues Kirk, ?and in the end, only one team will have the right to enter Olmec?s temple, but first they have to cross the moat, and here's how they're gonna have to do it today?Olmec, please tell us.?

Olmec instructs:
?Before you lies an ancient rod that has fallen across the Moat. When Kirk gives the signal, one player will hang from the rod by their hands and feet, and shinny across to the other side. Once the first partner is safely across, the second partner can cross the same way. When both partners reach the other side, run over and hit the gong!?

Kirk hits the Silver Snakes? gong to demonstrate, which?in turn?lights up a bright silver.

?The first four teams to hit their gong will go on to the next round,? finishes Olmec. ?Alright, so?let?s get started!? says Kirk. ?Teams?are you ready??

The teams excitedly reply, ?Yeeaahhhh!?

Kirk then asks, ?How ?bout you, Olmec??

?Dare challenge the rock?? Olmec shoots back.

?That?s a yes, I guess?? says Kirk, getting a good laugh out of the audience. ?Teams?on your marks, get set, GO!?

The six boys are off?with the boy on the Green Monkeys falling off in just two seconds. Purple Parrots have trouble too, but the Orange Iguanas and Silver Snakes look especially fast today, as well as the Blue Barracudas, but? ?They went down!? yells Kirk, and the Blue Barracudas are sent back. ?Orange Iguanas nice job,? says Kirk, ?and the Silver Snakes?they?re across, and so are the Orange?uh?Iguanas!? The Red Jaguars send their second player across, but that?s not enough to beat? ?The Orange Iguanas!? yells Kirk as the team gongs in, ?and?the Silver Snakes are next!? he shouts again as they gong in. ?We?re looking for four teams, who?re they gonna be?? asks Kirk to himself.

Just as he says that, the Red Jaguars gong in third, leaving just three teams under pressure left. The Blue Barracudas finally get their first player across, while the Green Monkeys and the Purple Parrots still struggle. The Blue Barracuda girl shoots right out onto the rod, but she immediately falls off and is sent back. ?Oh, it?s getting tougher and tougher!? comments Kirk as the fog disappears on the Moat. ?Purple Parrots doing well so far,? says Kirk just as the Green Monkeys? first player falls in for the sixth time. The Purple Parrots? second player suddenly springs into action as she moves along the rod with big leaps. The Blue Barracuda girl tries to copy this technique, as do the Green Monkeys, but the latter fails miserably and falls into the now-fog-free Moat.

?It?s tough,? says Kirk, ?but it looks like we?ve got?The Purple Parrots in!? yells Kirk as they gong in. ?Oh my, what a Moat?but going onto the Steps of Knowledge are the Silver Snakes?and the Purple Parrots?and the Orange Iguanas?and the Red Jaguars! The Blue Barracudas and the Green Monkeys gave it a great effort?it was a tough Moat?and they?re not going away empty handed; we?ve got a gift for ?em, and here?s what it is!?

The screen transitions into an aerial shot of the Steps of Knowledge, and then a close-up of Kirk?s face. ?The judges rule that we didn?t send the Red Jaguars back like we should?ve, so the Blue Barracudas are going to be replacing them!?  He then walks over to the four teams atop the Steps of Knowledge. ?As the quest continues,? says Kirk, ?it?s now time for Olmec to tell us about this Incorrect map of Ptolemy. But teams?pay attention, because your knowledge of the legend can bring you a step closer to Olmec?s temple.?

Olmec narrates the legend:
?One of the greatest figures in the history of mapmaking was Ptolemy?even though he wasn?t the most successful. In fact, his map was never even close to correct. In addition to his mapmaking career, he studied space and the stars. Ptolemy collected some data, and using it, he decided to create his own map of the whole world!

? ?Don?t bother,? said his assistant, ?it?s impossible to plot the whole world anyway!?

?But Ptolemy would not listen. He set to work on his map, and eventually, he came up with a very strange map?but not to him. At that time, only several continents were known, and his map included them. Many found his map useful, but once the Age of Exploration came and the Americas were discovered, Ptolemy?s Map was no longer needed and was disposed of by many. One of these maps made its way to the temple. Your quest is to find the Incorrect Map of Ptolemy and bring it back here.?

?Thank you Olmec,? says Kirk after a short pause, ?but tell us?where is the Incorrect Map??

?The Incorrect Map of Ptolemy can be found?in The Abandoned Camp,? replies Olmec. A spotlight focuses on the map placed on the top of the cage as the camera zooms in on it.

?Alright,? continues Kirk, ?teams?you are now standing on the Steps of Knowledge. In a minute, Olmec?s gonna ask you a question. If you think you know the answer, stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you. If you?re right, you?ll move down to the next level, but if you?re wrong or run out of time, I?m gonna have to give the other teams a chance to answer. The first two teams that make it to the bottom level?will be one step closer to Olmec?s temple. Olmec, we?re now ready for your first question??

Olmec asks:  ?Was Ptolemy?a mapmaker, a stone mason, or a shop owner??

After a short pause, The Orange Iguanas ring in: ?Mapmaker??

?That is correct,? replies Olmec. ?Step down, Orange Iguanas!? says Kirk as the Orange Iguanas move down to the second step. ?Olmec, next question.?

Olmec asks: ?Are the Americas known as?The Old World, The New World??

The Orange Iguanas interrupt: ?The New World!?

?That?is correct,? replies Olmec. ?Just like that, The Orange Iguanas are one step away from the Temple Games,? says Kirk as they move down to the third step. ?Next question??

Olmec asks: ?Ptolemy was Roman. Does that make him come from?England, Italy, or??

The Orange Iguanas interject: ?Rome!?

?THAT IS CORRECT!? shouts Olmec as a fired-up Orange Iguana team leaps down to the bottom step. ?Whoa!? yells Kirk, ?Orange Iguanas just swept through it, no problem! We?re still looking for two?um, one more team. Olmec, next question.?

Olmec asks: ?Are mapmakers officially known as?cartographers, ma??

The Purple Parrots stomp in too early: ?Uh?um, it?s??

Time runs out as a buzzer sounds. ?That is not one of our three choices,? replies Olmec. ?The three choices are?cartographers, map??

The Blue Barracudas take the first answer: ?Uh, cartographers??

?That is correct,? declares Olmec. ?Pulled it outta the clutch,? says Kirk, ?Blue Barracudas step down!? The Blue Barracudas hesitantly step down to the second step. ?Next question, please Olmec??

Olmec asks: ?Is the study of space and stars called?astronomy, astrology??

The Blue Barracudas guess: ?Astronomy??

?That is correct!? says Olmec, as the Blue Barracudas step down to the third step. ?One more question and the Blue Barracudas are going to the temple games,? says Kirk. ?Next question!?

Olmec asks: ?According to legend, who told Ptolemy not to make his map? Was it??

The Purple Parrots ring in: ?His assistant!?

?That is correct!? shouts Olmec, as the Purple Parrots step down to the second step. ?Purple Parrots on the board now,? comments Kirk. ?Olmec, next question??

Olmec asks: ?Which of these continents did Ptolemy leave out on his map?North America, Europe, or Asia??

The Blue Barracudas buzz in: ?Um?America??

After a short pause, Olmec replies, ?That?s close enough?for Olmec.? The Blue Barracudas step down to the bottom step. ?WE?VE GOT OUR TWO TEAMS!? yells an extremely animated Kirk. ?They are?The Orange Iguanas?and the Blue Barracudas! The Purple Parrots and the Silver Snakes gave it a great effort as well, and we?re going to give ?em a great gift?here?s what it is!?

The screen wipes to reveal Kirk with his hands on the two remaining teams? shoulders. ?These two teams are going to be competing for the rights to enter Olmec?s temple?right after this!? The camera appears to fly around the Steps of Knowledge and empty stage in front of the temple, before focusing on foliage near the Moat. The pendant-shaped title card crashes together, then fades out for the commercial break.

The screen reappears as the pendant of life splits and the camera zooms out from Olmec?s base.

?Welcome back to Legends,? says Kirk, standing  in front of The Mining Chamber. ?Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest?so let?s hear it for Jeremiah and Jenny of the Orange Iguanas?and Peter and Shannon of the Blue Barracudas!

?So,? says Kirk, ?you guys ready to play?? The players nod in response. ?Well, then go get ready!? The players walk off in different directions, as Kirk continues his narration. ?In the temple games, teams are competing for pendants of life?? Kirk grabs a pendant out of his pouch and holds it up to the camera. ?The winning team will need those pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded temple guards, as they make their way through the temple. There are three temple games, and Olmec will tell us about Temple Game #1??

Olmec explains:
?Mapmakers can?t afford to have messy rooms, because they need a lot of space to paint their maps. You are now standing in a VERY messy room. When Kirk gives the signal, crawl across the path, pushing the rubble out of the way and dragging your sack of art supplies along with you. When you reach the end, climb down to the next level, and do it again. When you crawl out of the maze, pull the sack of art supplies till it?s completely out. The first player to pull their sack out of the maze, or the team that?s further along at the end of 60 seconds wins!?

?I bet that?s so messy that the artist could actually present it as a piece of art!? says Kirk, rolling his eyes at the lack of laughs. ?Alright?let?s put 60 seconds on the clock!?

The clock ?bangs? down into the corner of the screen. ?On your marks, get set?GO!? Jeremiah and Peter are off immediately?Jeremiah just a little bit slower than Peter, as seen by the speed of him pushing out the boulders; he pushes them out just about a second after Peter does. At this point, the two boys are on the second level, and? ?Working with great speed,? comments Kirk. About 35 seconds remain when the boys hit the third level?just one level away from the bottom. ?It looks like it?s neck-and-neck at this point,? says Kirk, ?but maybe it?ll change?? Peter suddenly pulls ahead, fulfilling Kirk?s prophecy, and shooting right out of the maze with 15 seconds left! ?Pull, Peter, PULL!? Jeremiah exits the tunnel?but it?s too late! Peter pulls the sack out to end the game with 6 seconds on the clock as it disappears.

?Oh, my!? says Kirk, ?it was neck-and-neck all the way, and Peter?he just took his chance, grabbed that bag out in time, so he earns the Blue Barracudas a half pendant of life!? The two boys walk over to Kirk, as he continues: ?The next game is also worth a half-pendant?Olmec, tell us about it!?

Olmec narrates:
?Back in the days of Ptolemy, not much data was confirmed. As a result, early maps were often incorrect and placed cities and even whole countries where they shouldn?t have been. In this game, you?ll have to take a risk and guess where they should be. Before you stands a box with five holes. When Kirk gives the signal, plug one of the holes where you think the city is supposed to be. If it?s right, nothing will happen. Otherwise, you?ll be squirted with the Roman bathwaters! The team with the most correct guesses at the end of 60 seconds?wins.?

?I hope they don?t take a bath for too long,? says Kirk. ?Let?s set the clock for 60 seconds??

The clock appears onscreen once again. ?On your marks?get set?make your choice!? Each player plugs Hole #3, and they are both immediately squirted with water, getting a good laugh out of the audience. ?Make your choice?squirt!? This time, only Orange gets squirted. Orange chooses #1 this time, while Blue chooses #4?and both are squirted! ?Make your choice?squirt!? Blue gets squirted?now it?s 1-1. ?Make your choice?squirt!? Both are squirted again. This time, Orange chooses #3, and Blue chooses #4?and a stream of water soaks Shannon. ?Ohhh?it?s 2-1 Orange Iguanas!? shouts Kirk from the side. ?Make your choice?? On the seventh try, the audience begins counting. ?10?9?8?? One more squirt of water shoots out at Shannon, bringing the score up to 3-1?but we?re out of time!

?Looks like they didn?t get TOO wet,? comments Kirk. ?Okay?the Blue Barracudas got one score, but the Orange Iguanas got THREE scores?they?re gonna get the half pendant of life! We?re going onto the third and final game, and it?s worth a full pendant! Olmec, tell us about it.?

?Many oddly-shaped lines were drawn to form the outlines of the continents on maps. Luckily for you, in this game, you?ll just have to draw straight lines. When Kirk gives the signal, dip your hands in the paint, then slide down the slippery footpath, making sure you paint lines with your hands on the path. Once you stop, get off the footpath, and then it?ll be your partner?s turn to do the same! The team with the longest line at the end of 60 seconds wins.?

?Will they paint a good picture?? asks Kirk. ?Well, we?ll see! Let?s put 60 seconds on the clock please??

The clock crashes down in the bottom-right corner of the screen again. ?On your marks, get set, GO!? Jeremiah and Shannon start off and slide about three-quarters and two-thirds of the path, respectively. ?Not bad, at all! Nice painting!? comments Kirk from the sidelines. Now the other two players slide down the slippery footpath, basically tying up the score with ? of the footpath covered in two?now a bit scratchy?painted lines; one orange, one blue. ?Now it?s the third try?? Kirk seems to be running out of energy somewhat, but the players aren?t?the lines are both brought up a few inches further, with Orange just a little bit ahead. This seems to be their best they can do?because after three more tries and 10 seconds left on the clock, no extra progress seems to have been made. The audience begins counting down as Jeremiah and Shannon try for one more extension?but we?re out of time!

?Okay, okay, stop right there!? says Kirk as Shannon falls off the footpath. ?Whoa, you okay?? The spotters help Shannon up as Kirk gathers the two teams, and the judges give Kirk the results. ?Okay, so it looks like the Orange Iguanas painted the longest line?so they get the full pendant!? The audience cheers, and Kirk is forced to pause before continuing: ?So that gives them one and a half pendants?they?re going to the temple!? The audience cheers once more, while Kirk consoles the Blue Barracudas. ?Blue Barracudas?you only lost by just a FEW inches, we?re going to give you a great gift, and here?s what it is!?

Dee reads the prize:
?It?s a $100 Toys ?r? Us gift card! Toys ?r? Us gift card?it?s a great gift idea because you can buy toys, gadgets, and all the latest in the fun industry at any Toys ?r? Us store!?

?The Orange Iguanas made a comeback,? shouts Kirk, ?and we?re gonna see if they can retrieve Ptolemy?s map?right after this!? We are shown aerial shots of the Moat and Steps of Knowledge area, before the screen changes to a first-person view of running down the temple steps. The camera makes a sharp turn, focuses on OImec?s base, then fades to commercial.

The camera zooms out to reveal that it was focused on some puddles in front of The Secret Spring, then fades to Kirk standing in front of Olmec with the Orange Iguanas.

?Welcome back to Legends,? he says. ?Jeremiah and Jenny have proven themselves worthy and now have earned the right to enter Olmec?s temple. But first, Olmec?s going to give them some information to help them retrieve The Incorrect Map?of Ptolemy.?

Olmec begins his rundown:
?You could start by running up into the Room of the Tropicana Birds. Press down the correct beak, and pass into the Jungle Crevice. There, swing across, and climb into the Mouth of the Jaguar. Place the four fangs into the mouth, and you might descend into the Anaconda's Sanctuary. Place the snake in the correct hole, and you could pass into the Vine Drop. There, you might climb down through the wall of plants, or pull the vines to enter the Shriiiiine...of the Siiiiilver Monkeeey! Assemble the statue, and you may be headed for the Catfish Cove, where you could race down the Falls into the Secret Spring.

?You might plow through the stone wall into the Abandoned Camp, where you can grab the Incorrect Map of Ptolemy, and break open the cage to find the key! Next, climb into the Tropical Forest. If you escape, you will gain entry to the Treasury of the Monkeys, and find the right bunch of bananas to release the doors. Then, crawl through the Crevice, climb through the Mining Chamber, race down the stairs on back through the temple gates! The choices are yours and yours alone. You won one and a half pendants in the temple games. Who's going first??

?I AM!? shouts a very confident Jenny.

?Very well, Jenny!? replies Olmec. ?When Kirk gives the signal, you'll race through the gates into the temple, and make your way towards the Incorrect Map. Hidden inside the temple are temple guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. You can trade your pendant for an extra life and go on but if you're caught without a pendant, you'll be taken out of the temple...and it will be Peter's turn to enter and try his luck. Hidden somewhere in the temple is the other half of your pendant. If you can find it, and you?re carrying the other half, you will earn an extra life. If you can reach the map, all the doors of the temple will instantly unlock and the temple guards will vanish. Return through the gates with the Incorrect Map of Ptolemy in three minutes, and you will both be handsomely rewarded? and here's how!?

Dee reads the team?s prizes:
? For just going into the temple, you?ll receive a $500 worth of Toys ?r? Us Geoffrey Dollars! A great gift idea, because they?re as good as cash at any Toys ?r? Us store! From Toys ?r? Us.
? If they can grab the Incorrect Map before three minutes is up, you?ll be receiving an iPod Classic! Store thousands of songs, videos, podcasts, photos, and more! From Apple.
? And if they can bring the Incorrect Map out of the temple before three minutes is up, you?ll be going to Cancun! You?ll stay at Krystal Cancun, resort for beach lovers?with excursions to the Mayan ruins. It?s rich in history and rich in pleasure. From Krystal Cancun.

?Cancun!? says Kirk, ?I think we want to get them there, don?t we? Let?s get in position?and let?s put three minutes on the clock!?

The clock slams down in the corner of the clock. ?Olmec, lower your gate!? The gate lower as Olmec moans and the lights around him switch off. ?Okay, Jenny?on your marks?get set?GO!?

?There she goes, into the temple!? Jenny tears up the stairs as quickly as possible and down the slide into the Mining Chamber. ?She?s making great time,? says Kirk. Jenny crawls around the ledges with great speed, and hits the actuator of the door to the Jungle Crevice in just a few seconds. [2:48] Jenny has no problem and she goes down the crawl tube feet-first?something that isn?t done too often. ?She?s staying low in the temple,? comments Kirk. He?s right; the camera shows Jenny heading down into the Treasury of the Monkeys with 2:37 remaining on the clock. ?Go?GO!? Jeremiah seems to be quite an enthusiastic?and loud?partner, but it?s acceptable, because? ?Jenny is fast!? comments Kirk. She grabs one banana bunch on her tip-toes, and places it on the small altar. Immediately, it glows, and the door upward opens. [2:23] Jenny climbs the ladder up into the Anaconda?s Sanctuary, and grabs for the rubber snake, but she?s immediately grabbed by the first?

?TEMPLE GUARD!? yells Kirk, obviously a bit thrown. Jenny, on the other hand, is not, and gives the guard her pendant, and feeds the snake into the hole within a painting of a snakes? nest. Immediately, the paper covering the door upward slides open with a flash of light with 2:09 left on the timer. She?s forced to climb up yet again, and emerges from the open door into the Mouth of the Jaguar. [2:03] Jenny grabs the fangs and fixes them into the mouth one-at-a-time and extremely carefully. ?She?s taking her time,? says Kirk, ?but you might wanna get them in nice and firm, so you can open that door?? Kirk is interrupted by the sound of the stone slab blocking access to the Vine Drop lowering, and she races down the staircase into the next room quickly. [1:48] ?She?s lost a bit of that momentum?? But before Kirk can make any more comments, the second TEMPLE GUARD jumps out and pulls Jenny behind the temple guard door. ?Oh, go, Jeremiah!?

On Kirk?s final word, Jeremiah races up into the temple with all his might and into The Mining Chamber, having a little trouble maneuvering thru the room. [1:40] He crawls down into the Jungle Crevice, then slides down into the Treasury of the Monkeys. ?He passed up the half-pendant!? shouts Kirk. ?That might cost him?we?ll wait and see?? Beginning his vertical trek up the central column; he enters the Anaconda?s Sanctuary with 1:20 left on the clock. ?Could be running out of time soon, but they still have a minute and a half,? commentates Kirk as Jeremiah climbs the second ladder to the top of the temple. He emerges from the red ladder covering [1:07] and jogs down the stairs to the Vine Drop, obviously a bit tired, because he can barely enter the Vine Drop without slowing down significantly. ?One minute left?? warns Kirk somewhat subtly, because Jeremiah can be seen trying to pick up the pace; pulling down two vines at the same time. He repeatedly pulls those two, relying on Kirk to inform him to? ?Pull the third one! You gotta?? Finally, Jeremiah figures out the objective, and the door to the Shrine of the Silver Monkey slides open with 45 seconds on the clock.

Jeremiah WALKS into the next room, but jumps high enough to grab the base of the Silver Monkey?but out jumps the third temple guard! Jeremiah is dragged out of the temple, and the clock fades after it pauses at 38 seconds remaining.

?Oh, no!? says Kirk. ?The temple guard got him?he passed up the half-pendant in the Jungle Crevice, maybe he thought he didn?t need it, but oh, my?they gave it a great effort though, and they still get the $500 Toys ?r? Us Dollars. They were a great team, and we gotta go, check us out next time for another great Legend of?the Hidden Temple! Wild Jungle style! Seeya next time??

The credits scroll as various shots are shown: Kirk with Jenny, foliage near the audience?s side of the Moat, and the Incorrect Map lying in the Abandoned Camp. Finally, the camera fades out, and the light bulb-Nickelodeon logo is shown as an electric buzzing noise is heard.

Artifact Name: The Incorrect Map of Ptolemy
Location: The Abandoned Camp
Result: Got Caught by Three Temple Guards
Time Remaining: 0:38
Pendants Won: 1.5

This was a particularly quirky episode of Wild Jungle, and it started with a rare judge's ruling that allowed the Blue Barracudas to advance to the Steps of Knowledge as the 5th Team. For some reason, the Purple Parrot's "Um...uh..." answer and Olmec's response of "That is not one of the three choices" made me laugh hysterically, mainly because the Purple Parrots sounded so stupid. =)

Anyway, the temple games were extremely close. Speaking of the temple games, may I point out how the third temple game is THE rarest temple game ever played on Wild Jungle, and it was close?it even required a judge?s ruling to determine a winner! The teams had to dip their hands in paint, slide down a slippery footpath (kinda like the ones used in some of the original show's Moats in Season 3, but a bit longer) and paint the longest lines they could with their hands. The Orange Iguanas just pulled ahead, but it's a wonder that the Blue Barracudas made it so far after almost not qualifying in the Moat.

Up till this point, the Orange Iguanas seemed like the perfect team for the temple. Jenny was fast, and I mean FAST with a captial "F"! She cleared six rooms?including a vertical trek up the central column?in a tad more than a minute, which is impressive. Jeremiah was an okay player, but he passed up the half-pendant and seemed to have very bad stamina, because he ran out of juice soon enough and slowed down to a crawl. Because of his extremely fast partner, he was taken out of the temple by the third guard one room away with 39 seconds left, but I have a feeling that if Jenny had not been so fast, time would've run out. Jenny deserved the second prize, in my opinion, but honestly, Jeremiah wasn't all too good at all...

Wow...blew me away. Never knew you were capable of such good offense, of course!

You have the writing talent of TAW and TBK (no offense to them both either) that you've, IMO, been bottling up inside for quite awhile. But now that I've seen this, I think I'm going to enjoy the next fanfics a TON more than I enjoyed the older ones. Keep up the good work, TBF!

I liked how you went into full episode summary as well in this episode. Is this a feature you're going to keep?

EDIT: Nevermind, found the answer to the question.
