We return from the break to find Kirk standing in front of the Temple with the winning team.
“Welcome back to Legends: Rebirth,” he says. “The Green Monkeys have proven themselves worthy, and now have earned the right to enter Olmec’s Temple. But first, Olmec’s gonna give them some information to help them retrieve that Leather Scabbard of William Wallace…”
Olmec begins to explain the Temple layout as the camera gives us a first-person walkthrough of the Temple:
“You could start…by running up the stairs to the Crypt! Grab the book from the skeletons, and pass into the Bottomless Pit! Swing across the gap, and climb into the Lunar Landing. Align the puzzle on the satellite, and a door may open into the Clockwork Room. Set the clocks for the correct time, and pass into the Room…of the Mystical Keys! Reach into the compartments to find the two correct keys, and open the door to the SHRIIIIINE of the Silver Monkey! Assemble the statue and you may be headed toward the Room…of the Secret Password. Find the tablet with the correct inscription and shout it out to open the door to the Pharaoh’s Secret Passage. Slide down the tunnel to the Dungeon, where you could smash through the wall into the Dark Forest—but beware of the Temple Guards that may inhabit the trees! Find the key in the tree, and you’ll enter…the Jungle Ruins! Climb over the ruins, and you’ll gain entry to the Atlantean Altar. Uncover the tile that lets in the waters of Atlantis, then…race through the Pit, climb through the Ledges, race down the stairs and back through the Temple Gate. The choices are yours and yours alone!” Olmec pauses. “You won 2 Pendants in the Temple Games. Who’s going first?”
“I am,” says Matt, raising his hand.
“Very well, Matt,” Olmec replies. “When Kirk gives the signal, you’ll race through the Gate into the Temple and make your way toward the Leather Scabbard. Hidden inside the Temple are Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on, but…if you’re caught without a Pendant, you’ll be taken out of the Temple, and it’ll be Kristine’s turn to enter and try her luck. If you can reach the Scabbard, all the doors of the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish. Return through the Gates with the Leather Scabbard of William Wallace in three minutes, and you’ll both be handsomely rewarded…and here’s how!”
• Just for making it this far, they’ll get a sports package.
• If they can grab the Leather Scabbard within three minutes, they’ll also receive a Nintendo Wii, complete with two new games.
• And if they can bring the Leather Scabbard out of the Temple before three minutes expires, they’ll win a trip to San Jose, California.
“All right, let’s see if we can get ‘em to California,” says Kirk. “Both you guys, you need your mouthpiece in. Let’s set the clock for sixty—uh, three minutes!” The clock slams down in the bottom corner, set for the correct time.
“Olmec, lower your gate.” Olmec moans gutturally as the gate is lowered, and the black lights under him go out.
“Okay, Matt,” begins Kirk, “on your mark, get set, GO!”
“There he goes, with two Pendants in tow!” Kirk narrates as Matt rushes up the stairs. He soon enters the Crypt and pulls two books before opening the door to the Ledges, but he pulls the third one, opening the door to the Bottomless Pit—as well as the secret door at the back of the room, which houses the first TEMPLE GUARD (2:48). “Oh, Temple Guard, right in the first room he enters!” Kirk narrates. “Good thing he’s got a Pendant!” Matt hands over his Pendant after a few seconds of fumbling and begins to head into the Bottomless Pit. He reaches out for the rope, grabs it, and swings across the gap. He tries the actuators for both the Lunar Landing and the Clockwork Room, hitting them several times for good measure, but only the door to the latter room opens, so he heads into the Clockwork Room (2:34). “All right, he’s in the Clock Room!” Kirk shouts. “Now he’s gonna have to set the clocks for all the right time!” Matt glances at the big clock on the Temple Guard door in the room, which is set for twelve o’clock. He goes to work on the stage-right clocks first, turning both of each clock’s hands until they point to the big “XII” at the top of each clock (2:11). When he finishes these three, Matt goes to the right side of the room and starts setting these clocks for the same time. When he finishes, only the door to the Room of the Mystical Keys opens. Matt looks around for a few seconds before he finally proceeds through the open door. But as soon as he enters the room, the second TEMPLE GUARD jumps out and captures him (2:01).
“Oh, Temple Guard! Go, Kristine!” Kirk shouts. Kristine begins jogging up the steps to the Crypt, effectively retracing Matt’s steps. She has a little trouble in the Bottomless Pit, where she grabs onto the rope, sloppily swings across, and almost falls off the rope after reaching the opposite ledge (1:48). “Whoa, careful not to fall!” Kirk exclaims. Kristine hangs on for dear life, and fortunately regains her balance. She keeps following Matt’s cleared-out path, eventually reaching the Room of the Mystical Keys (1:25). She looks around for a few seconds before heading to the back of the room and reaching into the bottom left compartment. She comes out empty-handed, so she works her way around the compartments in a counterclockwise pattern until she finds one key in the right middle compartment, and the second one in the top left compartment (1:09). “She found the two keys—now she has to find the two right keyholes,” Kirk narrates. Kristine places one key in the left pedestal, but nothing happens. She tries the middle one with this key, but again, nothing happens (1:00). When she places this key in the right pedestal, it begins glowing with an eerie red light. “There’s one, now where does the other one go?” Kirk asks. Kristine inserts the other key in the middle pedestal, but nothing happens. When she places it in the left pedestal, the pedestal lights up red, and the door to the Shrine opens (0:54).
“All right—now into the Shriiiine of the Siiiiilver Monkey!” narrates Kirk. Kristine progresses into the room and looks around for a second before the third and final TEMPLE GUARD jumps out from the secret door at the back of the room, causing her to scream in fright (0:49). “Oh, there’s the last Temple Guard!” Kirk laments. “No, wait…she’s got a Pendant, I forgot!” Kristine hands her Pendant to the Temple Guard, and he exits the room via the way he came in. Kristine climbs up on the ledges in the room to retrieve the base and head of the statue from the shelves, then brings them to the front of the room and sets them down (0:45). She goes back to retrieve the middle of the statue, and also brings it back and sets it down (0:39). She grabs the base of the statue and places it on the pedestal (0:35), and then successfully places the middle (0:29). When she jams the head down, the doors to the Room of the Secret Password and the Dungeon open. She notices the open door to the Dungeon, and crawls through it. “That door’ll take her into the Dungeon—the dark, depressing Dungeon,” Kirk explains. Kristine begins to climb down the ladder in the room (0:11). “Ten seconds left—can she reach the Scabbard in time?” Kirk asks suspensefully. Kristine slowly descends the ladder, and when she reaches the bottom, she breaks down the wall into the Dark Forest, but unfortunately, we’re out of time!
“Oh—she was only two rooms away!” Kirk laments. “They cleared out a big path, but they couldn’t reach the Scabbard in time. That’s okay, though—I know they had fun, and they still get the sports packages for playing anyway. And we’ve gotta get outta here. We’ll see ya next time, but just remember: it’s not just Legends, it’s Legends: Rebirth! Buh-bye, everybody!”
Kristine emerges from the Temple, and she, Kirk and Matt chat and wave to the audience as the credits roll. Several close-ups of the Temple are seen, including the Ledges, the Bottomless Pit, and the Leather Scabbard of William Wallace in the Atlantean Altar. Kirk, Matt and Kristine wave goodbye one final time as the Stone Stanley logo appears onscreen.
