We return from the break to see Kirk standing in front of the Temple with the winning team.
“Welcome back to Legends: Rebirth,” he says. “The Blue Barracudas have proven themselves worthy, and now have earned the right to enter Olmec’s Temple. But before they do, Olmec’s gonna give them some information to help them retrieve the Discarded Sweatband of Jesse Owens…”
Olmec begins to explain the layout as the camera gives us a first-person tour of the Temple:
“You could start…by running up the stairs to the Crypt! Grab the book from the skeletons, and pass into the Bottomless Pit! Swing across the gap, and climb into the Lookout Tower. Focus the telescope to read the ancient print on the far wall, and a door may open into the Geographer’s Study. Find the missing pieces of the map and correctly place them, and pass into the Inventor’s Workshop. Turn the wheel to start the machine, and open the door to the SHRIIIIINE of the Silver Monkey! Assemble the statue and you may be headed toward the Room…of the Secret Password. Find the tablet with the correct inscription and shout it out to open the door to the Pharaoh’s Secret Passage. Slide down the tunnel to the Dungeon, where you could smash through the wall into the Dark Forest—but beware of the Temple Guards that may inhabit the trees! Find the key in the tree, and you’ll enter the Chamber…of the Four Elements. Place the elements in the proper order, and you’ll gain entry to the Owl’s Nest! Find the special white owl, and attach it to its proper nest, then…race through the Pit, climb through the Ledges, rrrrrace down the stairs and back through the Temple Gate. The choices are yours and yours alone!” Olmec pauses. “You won 2 Pendants in the Temple Games. Who’s going first?”
“I am,” says Seth.
“Very well, Seth,” Olmec replies. “When Kirk gives the signal, you’ll race through the gate into the Temple and make your way toward the Discarded Sweatband. Hidden inside the Temple are Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on, but…if you’re caught without a Pendant, you’ll be taken out of the Temple, and it’ll be Victoria’s turn to enter and try her luck. If you can reach the Discarded Sweatband, all the doors of the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish. Return through the Gate with the Discarded Sweatband of Jesse Owens in three minutes, and you’ll both be handsomely rewarded—and here’s how!”
• Just for making it this far, they’ll get a sports package from Outdoor Products.
• If they can grab the Discarded Sweatband within three minutes, they’ll also receive a Magnavox stereo system.
• And if they can bring the Discarded Sweatband out of the Temple before three minutes expires, they’ll win a trip to Key West.
“All right, let’s see if we can get ‘em through the Temple and on to Key West,” Kirk says. “Both of you, you need your mouthpieces in. Let’s set the clock for three minutes!” The clock appears in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen, ready to go.
“Olmec, lower your gate, if you please.” Olmec moans gutturally as the gate is lowered, and the black lights under him go out.
“Ready, Seth?” Kirk asks. Seth nods.
“On your mark,” Kirk begins, “get set, GO!”
“There he goes, up into the Temple!” Kirk shouts as Seth dashes up the stairs. He soon enters the Crypt, all pulls all three books before opening the door to the Bottomless Pit (2:48). “That opens the door to the Pit!” Kirk narrates. “He’s gotta swing across!” Seth proceeds into the Pit, grabs the rope, and swings across to the other side. He tries the doors to both the Lookout Tower and the Geographer’s Study, the latter which opens (2:39). “That door opens!” narrates Kirk. However, he doesn’t progress through the open door. Instead, Seth drops down to the lower level of the room and tries the actuator for the door to the Owl’s Nest. This door also opens, and he climbs through it (2:30). “He’s trying a different way—into the Owl’s Nest!” narrates Kirk. Seth sets foot in the room, where he is ambushed by the first TEMPLE GUARD (2:24). “Oh, Temple Guard!” Kirk narrates. “But he’s got a Pendant, so he can go on!” Seth hands over his Pendant after hesitating a bit, and the Temple Guard retreats to the back of the room. Seth looks around for a few seconds before he locates the white owl in the front left-hand corner of the room. He grabs it, and takes it to the nests, where he goes in a clockwise pattern, placing the owl on each nest, opening the door to the Chamber of the Four Elements with the third nest (2:10). “That’s the right nest!” Kirk narrates. “Now he’s in the Chamber of the Elements!” Seth proceeds through the open door and heads to the back wall of the room, where the fixed element pattern is set as “fire, water, air, earth”. “He’s gonna have to match up the element tiles on the bottom with the top!” Kirk explains. Seth takes the fire element tile off the stage-left side of the wall and places it in the first spot (1:53). He grabs the water tile from the stage-right side and places it in the second slot (1:47). He grabs the air and earth tiles from the stage-left and stage-right sides, respectively, and places them in their correct slots, opening the door to the Dark Forest (1:38). “That’s it!” Kirk narrates. “Now where’s he heading?” Seth proceeds through the open door into the Dark Forest. He emerges in the room and sticks his hand into the stage-left tree in search of a key, only to be grabbed the arms of the TEMPLE SPIRIT-inhabited tree (1:23).
“Oh, Temple Guard! Go, Victoria!” Kirk narrates. Victoria takes off up the stairs, progressing through the Crypt and the Bottomless Pit. When she reaches the other side of the Bottomless Pit, however, she veers off Seth’s path by venturing into the Geographer’s Study (1:10). “Oh, she’s takin’ a different path,” Kirk narrates. “Into the Geography Room!” Victoria looks around the room for a few seconds before finding India on the floor in the room and correctly placing it soon afterward. She soon finds Australia’s Great Dividing Range and southern Africa on the stage-left wall, and goes back to place those pieces as well. Several seconds go by, but Victoria finally finds and places the last piece—Central America—opening the door to the Lookout Tower, and in the process, revealing the third TEMPLE GUARD hidden behind the door to the ladder (0:39). “Oh, there’s the third Temple Guard!” Kirk narrates. Victoria fumbles with her Pendant for about five seconds before finally handing it over, and progresses up the ladder into the Lookout Tower. She emerges in the room (0:24) and goes to work adjusting the telescope knobs, looking through the telescope at the far wall. After a good while, she finally yells out “I have not yet begun to fight!”, but no doors open (0:07). She yells the phrase again, but again, nothing happens. Victoria pulls herself away from the telescope and begins climbing down the ladder, but time expires before she can reenter the Geographer’s Study.
“Oh, that’s it!” Kirk laments. “She ran out of time! She found a dead-end, and she couldn’t get back on track in time! This was a tough Temple. That’s okay, though, because they still get the sports package for playing anyway, and I know they had a great time—I know I did. We’ve gotta get outta here, though, but we’ll see ya next time. Just remember—it’s not just Legends, it’s Legends: Rebirth! Buh-bye, everybody!”
Kirk and Seth talk as the credits roll, and Victoria eventually appears beside them and joins in the conversation. The camera shows various parts of the set, including a rubber rattlesnake and a close-up view of the Dungeon, the Pharaoh’s Secret Passage, and the Room of the Secret Password. Kirk, Seth and Victoria wave to the crowd as the credits finish rolling and the Stone Stanley logo appears onscreen, and the show fades to black.
