Rediscovery EP: The Stolen Crown of the False Dmitriy

Legends: The Rediscovery

Episode 27px]

The camera maneuvers through a thick rainforest to stop in front of an ancient temple.  A giant stone head next to the gate of the temple begins to speak:
"LEGENDS OF THE HIDDEN TEMPLE! With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is NOW!"

On this final word, Kirk appears from behind the Temple Guard door in the Dungeon and runs straight out into the foreground of the stage to greet the crowd. "Thank you! Thank you very much! Nice to see you! Nice to see you, Olmec! Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple.  The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards.  Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple.  Which legend are we gonna hear about today?"

Olmec replies:
"The Stolen Crown of the False Dmitriy."

"Oh, the Stolen Crown of the False Dmitriy!" Kirk says in response. "Well, one of these six teams will have the chance to retrieve the Stolen Crown.  Will it be:
"Phil and Erika of the Red Jaguars?" the camera pans to each team in order?
"Andrew and Reena of the Blue Barracudas,
"Matt and Cyndy of the Green Monkeys,
"Shane and Carly of the Orange Iguanas,
"Kai and Merina of the Purple Parrots,
"Or Scott and Briana of the Silver Snakes?"

"They'll have to pass some tough physical and mental tests," Kirk says, "but in the end, only one team will earn the right to enter Olmec's Temple.  But first, they must cross the Moat, and here's how they'll have to do it today:
"There's a rope in front of each team in the Moat.  When I say go, one player from each team will swim out to grab the rope, come back onto dry land and swing on the rope across the Moat.  Then they'll throw the rope to their partner and he'll swing across.  Now if any part of a player touches the water when he's swinging across, he'll have to go back and start over."
"As soon as the second player steps onto the deck, it's his job to run over here and hit the gong." He slams down on the Red Jaguars' gong to demonstrate. "The first four teams to hit their gongs will be going on to the Steps of Knowledge.  ARE YOU READY!"
The players all cheer and shout in response.
"Olmec, are you ready?" asks Kirk.
"Ready when you are," Olmec replies.
"All right then," Kirk replies. "On your marks, get set, GO!"

The teams? first players jump into the Moat and wade out to grab the ropes at a fair pace, and the girl on the Green Monkeys is the first player to climb back up onto the dry studio floor with the rope.  She also is the first player to successfully land on the other side of the Moat, followed by the boy on the Blue Barracudas, who makes it across just as the boy on the Purple Parrots is sent back.
?This match is heating up!? Kirk says as the girl on the Red Jaguars and the boy on the Silver Snakes are helped up onto the deck by the spotters. ?You just gotta keep your knees high and do it Tarzan-style!? The boy on the Purple Parrots and the girl on the Orange Iguanas appear not too long thereafter.  The boy on the Green Monkeys drops too deep into the Moat at about the halfway mark and is sent back.  After about ten more seconds, the boy on the Red Jaguars makes it across, helped up by his partner and a female spotter.
?We?ve got one team, it?s the Red Jaguars!? Kirk announces.  Then the second players of the other teams appear all around the same time. ?We got Silver Snakes? Green Monkeys? Purple Parrots? That?s it!? Kirk is now standing with the Red Jaguars near their gong. ?Red Jaguars simply blazed through that, they?re goin? on to the Steps of Knowledge, along with the Green Monkeys?? the camera briefly shows each qualifying team? ?and the Purple Parrots? and the Silver Snakes! Blue Barracudas and Orange Iguanas gave it a great effort too.  They?re not going away empty-handed, we?ve got a great gift for them for playing and here?s what they get.?
Dee reads the consolation prize:
"Look at the entertaining fun you?ll have when you strap on Moon Shoes.  Super excitement is yours when you bounce higher than ever! Don?t leave Earth without Moon Shoes, from Big Time Toys!"

Rediscovery EP: The Stolen Crown of the False Dmitriy
« Reply #1 on: April 21, 2007, 08:46:07 AM »
The four teams are now at the top of the Steps of Knowledge accompanied by Kirk. "As the quest continues, it's now time for Olmec to tell us about the Stolen Crown of the False Dmitriy.  But pay attention teams, because your knowledge of the Legend can bring you one step closer to Olmec's Temple."
Olmec begins to tell the legend:
"One of the most powerful tsars of Russia was Ivan the Terrible.  He built the great onion domes of St. Basil, and opened the country to trade on the White Sea.  Ivan was worried about his family losing their place on his ivory throne, so much so that he married seven times to produce a worthy heir.
"One day, a mysterious figure by the name of Boris Godunov came to Ivan?s palace.
"'Your Tsarness, I have a few suggestions that can improve our way of life.'
"'Why does a peasant like you want to help me?'
"'I can answer that,' said Ivan?s son Dmitriy. 'I overheard this man plotting to overthrow you!'
"'Guards!' yelled Ivan. 'Prepare an oil bath for this conspirator.' As Godunov was taken away, Ivan then spoke to his son. 'You?ve made me realize today I?m glad you?ll become the next tsar.'
"When Ivan died, Dmitriy did became the tsar and was presented his royal crown.? But it wasn?t really Dmitriy! Legend has it that a boy captured Ivan?s real son and replaced him the day Godunov came to the palace, and posed as Ivan?s son ever since.  The impostor, named Grigory, was tsar for a full year before the secret leaked out, he was overthrown, and his stolen crown disappeared.  You must seek out the Stolen Crown of the False Dmitriy and bring it back here."

"Thank you Olmec," Kirk says after Olmec finishes telling the legend. "So tell us, where is the Crown?"
Olmec replies:
"The Stolen Crown of the False Dmitriy can be found in the Forbidden Fountain." The camera zooms in on the Stolen Crown on the upper end of the scales in the Forbidden Fountain, then fades back to Kirk.

"Teams," Kirk begins, walking down the steps, "you're now standing on the Steps of Knowledge, and in a minute, Olmec will ask you a question about today?s legend.  If you think you know the answer, stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you.  If you're right, you're gonna move down to the next level, but if you're wrong or run out of time, I'll give the other teams a chance to answer.  The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec's Temple.  Olmec, we're now ready for your first question."

Olmec begins:
?Was the real Dmitriy: Replaced by an impostor, Boiled in oil by his own father, or???
Phil buzzes in: ?Replaced? uh? by a fake.?
?Correct,? Olmec replies.
?Okay, step down!? Kirk shouts, and the Red Jaguars move down a step. ?Red Jaguars on the board.  Next question.?
Olmec asks:
?Was the real Dmitriy the son of: Peter the Great, Ivan the Terrible, or Aaron the All-Right??
Phil gongs in: ?Ivan the Terrible.?
?That is correct,? Olmec answers, and the Red Jaguars move down again.
?They realize they?re only one step away from the Temple Games,? Kirk comments. ?Looking for two teams.  Olmec, next question.?
Olmec now asks:
?Was Ivan the Terrible a ruler of???
Phil stomps down first yet again: ?Russia.?
?That is correct!? shouts Olmec, and the Red Jaguars move on down to the bottommost level.
?Just like that, the Red Jaguars are going on to the Temple Games,? Kirk comments. ?Who?s gonna join them: the Silver Snakes, the Green Monkeys or the Purple Parrots? Olmec, next question.?
Olmec asks:
?In Ivan?s time, was a leader of Russia called a: Emperor, Kaiser, or Tsar??
Cyndy rings in: ?Sar???
?Correct,? answers Olmec, and the Green Monkeys move down to the second step.  Olmec now asks:
?In our legend, the False Dmitriy said the man who came to the palace plotted to overthrow Ivan the Terrible.  Was this man named: Peter Tchaikovsky, Boris Godunov, or Boris Badenov??
After a second, Briana stomps down first: ?Boris Good? Boris Godunov.?
?Correct,? Olmec answers, and the Silver Snakes move down to the second step.
?This match is heating up,? Kirk comments. ?Olmec, next question.?
Olmec now asks:
?In our legend, was the False Dmitriy?s real name: Grigory, Peter, or???
Merina buzzes in: ?Grigory???
?Correct,? replies Olmec, and the Purple Parrots step down to the second level.
?It?s all tied up!? Kirk announces. ?Let?s break the tie with a question.?
Olmec asks:
?Is the capital of Russia: Yakutsk, Moscow, or St. Petersburg??
Merina is first again: ?Moscow???
?That is correct,? says Olmec, and the Purple Parrots go down to the third step.
?One more correct response, and the Purple Parrots are goin? to the Temple Games,? Kirk explains. ?Next question, Olmec.?
Olmec now asks:
?Did Ivan the Terrible have a throne made of: Glass, Ivory, or Gold??
After a second of hesitation, Kai gongs in: ?Uhh? Ivory???
?That is correct!? Olmec shouts, and the Purple Parrots step down to join the Red Jaguars at the bottom level.
?All right, we?ve got our two teams!? Kirk announces, walking up onto the final step from the side to appear behind the two qualifying teams. ?The Red Jaguars and Purple Parrots, they?re gonna go head-to-head!? Kirk then turns around and continues. ?Green Monkeys and Silver Snakes gave it a great effort too.  We?ve got a nice gift for them for playing and here?s what they get.? Matt, Cyndy, Briana and Scott will each be receiving a small sports package provided by Regent.
Kirk is standing on the bottom level of the Steps of Knowledge behind the Red Jaguars and Purple Parrots. ?These two teams will be playing for the right to enter Olmec?s Temple,? he says, ?and they?ll do it right after this!? The camera pans across the rows of filled seats in the audience, then fades to commercial.

Rediscovery EP: The Stolen Crown of the False Dmitriy
« Reply #2 on: April 21, 2007, 08:47:12 AM »
Kirk is standing in front of the Crevasse with the team players around him. ?Welcome back to Legends,? he says. ?Now, the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest, so let?s get to know our two tough teams.? The camera cuts to a close-up on the curly-brown-haired girl to the stage-left of Kirk. ?On the Red Jaguars, we have Erika, she plays soccer and wants to be a model?? the camera then cuts in close on the bushy-brown-haired boy stage-left of Erika? ?and we have Phil, he was born during a vacation in Mexico and wants to win the World Cup.  Let?s hear it for the Red Jaguars!? The audience applauds for a moment.
Kirk then turns in the other direction to interview the girl on Kirk?s stage-right with a black braided ponytail. ?But on the Purple Parrots, we have Merina, she listens to rock music and collects seashells?? then the camera closes in on the short-dark-haired boy on the far right of the screen? ?and we have Kai, he plays football and wants to join the army.  Let?s hear it for the Purple Parrots!? The audience applauds again.

?Now, why don?t you go get ready for the Temple Games,? Kirk says as the players walk offscreen, ?and I'll tell you what's gonna happen here.  In the Temple Games, these teams are competing to win?" he opens his pocket and pulls out a small gold medallion to show to the camera? "Pendants of Life.  The winning team will need those Pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded Temple Guards as they make their way through the Temple.  There are three Temple Games, and Olmec will tell us about Temple Game #1.?

Olmec begins:
?Dmitriy?s father, Ivan the Terrible, opened the White Sea to trade with other countries.  In this game, you?ll do a little trading of your own.  When Kirk gives the signal, row out to the island, switch the treasure boxes, and, without touching the water, return to the dock.
?The first player to switch the treasure chests and come back with both feet on the dock? or the one that?s furthest along after 45 seconds? wins.?
The camera fades to Kirk standing on the dock. ?I?m not sure they did it like this,? he says. ?But anyway, let?s set the clock for 30? I mean? 45 seconds.? The clock then appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen. ?On your mark, get set, GO!?
Erika and Kai row out to the docks, but have a bit of trouble stopping in the right spot to switch the treasure chests.  Kai manages to switch the treasure boxes with 29 seconds left, but it takes Erika until 23 seconds left to switch them.  Both players have a bit of trouble pulling themselves back on shore, and Kai ends up tangled up quite a ways to the stage-right of the dock.  Erika doesn?t have quite as much trouble, however, and manages to step out onto the dock with a short eight seconds left.
?Well, that?s it!? Kirk comments as Kai simply walks out of his boat and walks back onscreen. ?Looks like Red Jaguars got back here first, that gives them the half Pendant of Life!? The audience applauds for a moment. ?The next game?s worth a half Pendant.  Olmec, tell us about it.?

Olmec continues:
?Dmitriy wasn?t just impersonated by one fake? there were two other boys that claimed to be Ivan the Terrible?s son.  The real Dmitriy and all three of the impostors were all to be crowned, and in this game, you must crown all four of them.  When Kirk gives the signal, fling yourself onto the spider web in front of you and climb up to one of the containers and break it open.  If there is a crown inside, grab it, come back down and place the crown on one of the heads.  Otherwise, break open another container.
?The first player to crown Dmitriy and the three impostors? or the player that?s crowned the most heads in 60 seconds? wins.?
?Hope our players won?t lose their heads,? Kirk says. ?Let?s set clock for 60 seconds.? The clock appears in the corner of the screen. ?On your mark, get set, GO!?
Phil and Merina launch themselves onto the nets and climb up toward the top.  Phil slowly goes for the middle cubbyhole and finds the first key, while Merina heads for the second-rightmost hole on the top row only to find no key.  She then moves to the camera-right corner as Phil climbs back down.  Phil places the first crown on a mannequin head with 39 seconds left, and Merina gets her first one in place with 37 seconds to go.
?It?s tough when you don?t know if a crown?s waiting in the hole,? Kirk says as the players start back up the nets again.  Merina heads for the only cubbyhole on the camera-right wall of her web, while Phil stays caught by indecision near the three holes near the top-left corner of his wall.  Merina finds the second crown and returns with it just as Phil tries the top-left corner hole? after finding no crown in the one next to it.  Merina, ever the slow climber, gets the second crown in place with only five seconds left, but Phil was far enough behind that he can?t bring back the second crown before time runs out.
?Okay, let?s see how they did!? Kirk says, running over as soon as the spotlights flash.  Phil puts the second crown on a mannequin head just as Kirk appears onscreen. ?Red Jaguars got one crown, that last one?s not in time.  Purple Parrots got two! Purple Parrots win a half Pendant of Life!? The audience applauds for a second. ?So it?s all tied up, each team has a half Pendant, and this is the third and final game, it?s worth a full Pendant.  Olmec, tell us about Temple Game #3.?

Olmec narrates:
?According to our legend, the False Dmitriy replaced Ivan the Terrible?s real son to get to the ivory throne.  The impostor hoped Dmitriy would not escape, but in this game, you and your partner are in the real Dmitriy?s position.  When Kirk gives the signal, you and your partner will move across the wall and maneuver the chain along the slot, and try to make your way to the space marked ?Freedom? through which you can escape.
?The first team to reach Freedom? or the one that?s closer to Freedom after 60 seconds? wins.?
?This is for the Temple Run,? Kirk says. ?Let?s put 60 seconds on the clock.? The clock appears in the corner of the screen. ?On your marks, get set, GO!?
The teams move at a pretty good pace, with each team making it through the first of the two metal loops with 46 seconds left. ?These guys?re moving fast,? Kirk says. ?That?s good, it takes a lot of communication, this is tough to do.? The teams are neck-and-neck on the second leg of the game, both passing through the metal loops with roughly 29 seconds to go. ?If it keeps going like this, it?s gonna be tough to call,? Kirk comments.  The Red Jaguars are starting to catch up again at this point.  In a close finish, the Red Jaguars end up being the first team to free themselves, doing so with 11 seconds left.
?Whoo! Close match all the way!? Kirk says when the Red Jaguars appear. ?Red Jaguars got out first, that gives them the full Pendant, giving them a Pendant and a half, the Purple Parrots had a half.  The Red Jaguars are goin? to the Temple!? Phil and Erika high-ten each other, as that?s the only thing they can do with the equipment still on.  The Purple Parrots appear a second later. ?Purple Parrots gave it a great effort all the way through.  Here?s what we?ve got for them.? Kai and Merina will each be receiving an Eastpak backpack.
The camera shows Kirk standing in front of the equipment for the third Temple Game with the now-unfastened Red Jaguars. ?We?ll see if these guys can retrieve that Stolen Crown of the False Dmitriy,? he says, ?right after this!? The camera rushes around the equipment for the third Temple Game, stops in front of the Forbidden Fountain and zooms in on the Stolen Crown on the upper end of the scales before fading to commercial.

Rediscovery EP: The Stolen Crown of the False Dmitriy
« Reply #3 on: April 21, 2007, 08:48:05 AM »
Kirk stands in front of the Temple's stairs with his hands on Phil and Erika's shoulders. "Welcome back to Legends," he says to the camera before turning around to talk to Olmec. "The Red Jaguars have proven themselves worthy, Olmec, and now have earned the right to enter your Temple.  But first, can you give them any hints to help them retrieve the Stolen Crown of the False Dmitriy?"
Olmec begins to give the rundown:
"You could start by climbing through the Crevasse and climbing down into the Great Chasm.  Then, race into the Forbidden Fountain, where you can grab the Stolen Crown of the False Dmitriy.  Place the correct bowl to tip the scales, and you could choose to go up into the Burial Pit, or into the Junction of the Secret Shafts.  If you escape, you might have a chance to enter the Switch Inferno.  Hit the right actuator to go upstairs, or plow through the wall and into the Dungeon.
"Climb up the Pharaoh?s Secret Passage into the Dark Overlook, and correctly place all three torches to open the door to the Shrine of the Silver Monkey.  Assemble the statue, and you may be headed for the Knights? Barracks.  Place the sword in the correct sheath, and you could advance into the Laser Light Room.  Find the right combination to unleash the power of the laser, and swing on the rope back across the Great Chasm.  Then, pass through the Room of Temple Gongs, race down the stairs and back through the Temple Gate.  The choices are yours and yours alone." Olmec pauses for a second here. "You won 1 ? Pendants in the Temple Games.  Who's going first??
"I am," says Phil.
"Very well Phil," replies Olmec as Kirk hands out the Pendants of Life. "When Kirk gives the signal, you'll race through the gates into the Temple and make your way towards the Stolen Crown.  Hidden inside the Temple are three ventilation shafts that let out in the Junction of the Secret Shafts, as well as Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms.  You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on, but if you're caught without a Pendant, you'll be taken out of the Temple? and it'll be Erika's turn to enter and try her luck.  Hidden somewhere in the Temple is the other half of your Pendant.  If you can find it and you're carrying the other half, you will get an extra life.  If you can reach the Stolen Crown, all the doors of the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish.  Return through the gates with the Stolen Crown of the False Dmitriy in three minutes, and you will both be handsomely rewarded? and here's how:"
?   For just making it into the Temple, they?re both going to get a camping package from Outdoor Products.
?   If they can grab the Stolen Crown within three minutes, they?re each going to get a $1,000 Toys ?R? Us gift card.
?   And if they can get the Stolen Crown of the False Dmitriy out of the Temple before 3 minutes is up, they?ll both be going to St. Martin! The Golden Tulip St. Martin beach resort has its own private beach, water polo, and all the amenities of Golden Tulip International.  Golden Tulip International, for a prize package totaling exactly $13,200!

"The Bahamas, sounds great!" Kirk says, excited. "So, Erika, how do you think you're gonna get to the Sandal."
"Um," she replies, "we?re going up, and we?re gonna go into the pit, and we?re gonna try to go right in there and grab the Crown, but if that doesn?t open, we?ll go up and across and come back."
"We?re about to see if that?ll work out," Kirk says. "Let?s get Phil out in front.  Put your mouthpieces in.  Lower the gate, Olmec!"
Olmec moans as he lowers the gate.
"And let's put three minutes on the clock.  On your mark, get set, GO!"

Phil runs up the stairs into the Room of Temple Gongs, only to meet a?
?TEMPLE GUARD! Right off the bat!? Kirk shouts. ?Give him your Pendant, you get an extra life and go on!? Phil hesitantly hands over his Pendant of Life, then moves to the front of the room to start hitting the gongs.  He starts with the one furthest right on the camera and moves stage-left.  Finally the very last one, the leftmost gong, lights up red, but no doors open, so Phil goes down into the Crevasse.  There, he quickly slithers his way down to the door leading to the lower crawl tube and enters the Great Chasm with 2:25 remaining.  He jumps down into the gap to try the door into the Forbidden Fountain, but needless to say, it doesn?t open.
?Where?s he gonna go now?? Kirk asks (possibly talking to Erika, as she points to the Laser Light Room).  The camera then pans back to Phil slowly climbing the Great Chasm walls. ?Looks like he?s going to climb up the climb into the Laser Room!? Phil hits the actuator for the Laser Light Room with 2:06 to go, and immediately scrambles up the stairs.  He aligns the sections of the metallic column fairly quickly, and a laser beam appears as a door opens.  Phil proceeds into the Knights? Barracks, grabs the sword and places it in the camera-right sheath.  He then tries the sheath stuck in the head of the middle suit of armor, but as he sticks the sword in there, the armor?s gauntlets grab him and a voice bellows ?GOT YOU!?? the armor houses a TEMPLE SPIRIT!
?Oh, he?s been caught!? Kirk shouts after a second. ?Go Erika, take off!? Erika passes through the Temple Gate with 1:32 remaining and races up into the Room of Temple Gongs, only to have to descend into the Crevasse.  She makes it into the Great Chasm with 1:15 left and immediately starts climbing up the wall. ?She?s just following Phil?s pace,? Kirk says. ?Through the Laser Room, into the Room of the Ancient Warriors??
?Go Erika!? Phil shouts as Erika places the sword into the camera-left sheath, unlocking the door to the Shrine of the Silver Monkey. ?C?mon!? Erika grabs all three pieces of the statue and puts the base on the platform with 39 seconds left.  She has a little trouble handling all the pieces of the statue at the same time, but she finally gets on the middle piece without dropping it over the railing.  She then puts on the head, and jams it down with 21 seconds left.
?I don?t think she?s gonna make it!? Kirk says, disappointed.  The doors into the Dungeon and the Switch Inferno open, and Erika climbs down into the Dungeon and moves toward the Pharaoh?s Secret Passage. ?She?ll have to bust through the wall?? Erika looks around for a second, then wades back across the tarp to the breakaway wall.  She enters the Switch Inferno with very little time left, and just looks around cluelessly until time runs out.
?Oh, we?re out of time!? Kirk says, empty tiers of audience seats visible behind him and Phil. ?And they were only two rooms away.  But they did a great job, they get the camping gear, and you had a great time, right?? He holds the microphone up to Phil?s mouth.
?Yeah,? he replies.
?Okay,? Kirk says. ?Check us out next time for another great Legend of the Hidden Temple! Buh-bye!? Erika reappears on stage a few moments later, and she can be seen talking with Kirk and Phil as the camera zooms out and the credits roll.

Rediscovery EP: The Stolen Crown of the False Dmitriy

Temple Run Summary
Episode 27px]

Name of Artifact: The Stolen Crown of the False Dmitriy
Season: 2
Layout: 1 (5 overall)
Result: Failed acquisition
Time Remaining: N/A
Team: Red Jaguars
Pendants Won: 1.5
Location of Artifact: The Forbidden Fountain

There's honestly not that much that I can say about this Temple Run.  Both players gave it a great effort, but they were a bit too slow to make it to the Stolen Crown.  The second runner, Erika, ignored two shortcuts during her 1:32 in the Temple, but it probably wouldn't have saved enough time.

Trivia and Records:
This is the only episode in which an artifact is located in the Forbidden Fountain.  This is the first episode in which the horizontal passage from the Shrine of the Silver Monkey does not open even though the artifact is not in the top corner room.  When Kirk asks about the team's strategy, he makes an accidental reference to the episode "The Sandal of Mohandas Gandhi."

It could've been a solo victory if they started in the Crevasse, and they could've gotten to the artifact if they used the Shrine-Inferno passage.

Another great fic, Ancient Warrior!
