Kirk is now standing in front of the Mine Shaft between the last two teams. ?Welcome back to Legends,? he says. ?Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest, but before we get started, I wanna talk to our team players.? He turns camera-left to talk to a short, redheaded boy. ?On the Green Monkeys, we have Brian. How old are you??
?Eleven,? replies Brian.
?And I understand you?re all about football,? Kirk says, referring to the text on the index card in his hand. ?Tell me about that.?
?Well,? he explains, ?there wasn?t a lot of choice on what to watch on TV since my dad and my two older brothers watched a lot of football, but I?m pretty into it now and now I play it too.?
?Do you have a favorite team??
?Well,? Brian answers, ?I watch so much I don?t have just one favorite team, but? um, my top three are the Miami Dolphins? um, the Minnesota Vikings and the Indianapolis Colts.?
?Ah, nice,? comments Kirk. He goes to talk to the girl on the far left of the screen, a kid with freckles, wavy blond hair and glasses. ?Also on the Green Monkeys, we have Stephanie. How old are you??
?Twelve,? she answers.
?And I hear you?re into ice-skating,? Kirk reads. ?Tell me about that.?
?Well,? explains Stephanie, ?I go to the skating rinks back at home a lot, and I loved watching the Winter Olympics in Torino last year? that?s part of what got me into it.?
?You think you might end up in the Olympics some day?? Kirk asks.
?Maybe.? Stephanie smiles.
?This is a sporty team here,? Kirk comments. ?Let?s hear it for the Green Monkeys!? The audience applauds as Kirk turns to the right side of the screen to talk to the short-haired, brown-eyed boy on the other team. ?And on the Orange Iguanas, we have Michael. How old are you??
?Twelve,? he answers.
?Now I understand you play basketball and you want to join the Army,? Kirk says. ?Tell me about that.?
?Well,? explains Michael, ?It seems pretty cool to? do that for the country, really. I kinda wanna get high in the ranks, really, not just be a soldier.?
?Okay, cool,? Kirk says, going to talk to the black girl on the far right of the screen. ?And your partner, Olivia. How old are you, Olivia??
?Twelve,? she says.
?Now, I hear you like to sing and you can speak French,? Kirk says, ?but I hear you also play football. Do you watch it too??
?Um?? explains Olivia, ?I watch a little bit? I?m not too big on it, but I play with a few friends.?
?I think we have two strong teams today,? Kirk comments. ?Let?s hear it for the Orange Iguanas!? The audience applauds again.
?So, are you guys ready to play?? asks Kirk.
?YEAH!? The players shout in unison.
?All right, go get ready for the Temple Games!? Kirk says, and the players walk offscreen. ?Let me just pull out the ol? Pendant of Life here.? He opens a pouch and pulls out a small gold medallion to show to the camera. ?The winning team?s gonna need those Pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded Temple Guards as they make their way through Olmec?s Temple. There are three Temple Games. Olmec, tell us about the first one.?
Olmec begins:
?According to legend, some of Jos?phine Bonaparte?s love letters never made it to Napol?on when he was at war. In this game, you must find four of Napol?on?s letters to Jos?phine. When Kirk gives the signal, fling yourself onto the spider web in front of you and climb up to one of the cubbyholes and break it open. If the cubbyhole contains a letter, come back down and place it in your bin.
?The first player to retrieve all four of Napol?on?s love letters? or the player that?s found the most in 60 seconds? wins.?
?All?s fair in love, but for our teams, this means war,? Kirk says. ?Let?s put 60 seconds on the clock.? A countdown clock appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen. ?On your mark, get set, GO!?
Both Brian and Michael throw themselves onto their webs and find their ways to the holes they think contain love letters. Unfortunately, neither player successfully finds a love letter until Michael reaches the center cubbyhole with 44 seconds remaining, bringing the letter down a few seconds later. Brian finds the first for the Green Monkeys in the leftmost cubbyhole a few seconds later, though. However, both players move very slowly and are indecisive. They additionally both have bad luck; they both score a second time, but with only about fifteen seconds left. Although Brian finds a third love letter, as he?s pulling it out of the cubbyhole, time runs out, further indicated by a pattern of ceiling spotlights flashing. Kirk reappears onscreen to declare the winner.
?Okay, that?s it!? Kirk says, pulling over the team bins and peering inside as the boys walk over. ?It looks like both players got two letters, so both players get the half Pendant of Life!? The audience applauds briefly. ?The next game is worth a half Pendant. Olmec, tell us about it.?
Olmec continues:
?Like many good leaders, Jos?phine?s husband Napol?on had to be able to ride a horse skillfully and not just pose on one. In this game, you must prove your horsemanship. Hold on tight, because when Kirk gives the signal, the horse below you will begin to spin.
?The player who?s still on after 60 seconds? or the player who stays on the longest? wiiins!?
?It?s gonna be a bumpy ride,? Kirk comments, standing in front of the horse machine. ?Let?s put 60 seconds on the clock.? The clock appears in the corner of the screen as Kirk runs off to the right side of the screen. ?On your mark, get set, GO!?
Stephanie and Olivia both hang on for dear life as the horse begins to spin clockwise, and neither moves a muscle for a while. After every fifteen seconds or so, the horse spins in the opposite direction. This catches players off-guard, but both of them do a very good job of hanging on. After the third change of direction, both players begin to lose their grip, but neither actually lets go of the horse before time expires. The ceiling spotlights flash again, and Kirk runs over to announce the final outcome of the game.
?Time?s up!? says Kirk. ?Both girls managed to stay on, so they both get a half a Pendant again!? The audience applauds again. ?So it?s now a Pendant apiece, and we go to the third and final game, it?s worth a full Pendant. Olmec, tell us.?
Olmec narrates:
?Under Napol?on and Jos?phine, France won a lot of battles and conquered much of Europe. On the wall above you are the names of four big battles Napol?on won: ?Ulm,? ?Trafalgar,? ?Austerlitz? and ?Jena.? When Kirk gives the signal, load the slingshot and fire a ball. Then, your partner will catch the ball and stick it onto the first target. Once you?ve covered a target, that battle is won, and you can climb up and try to cover the next target.
?The team that wins all four of their battles? or the team that?s further along after 60 seconds? wins.?
?This is for the Temple,? Kirk explains. ?Let?s put 60 seconds on the clock.? The clock appears onscreen. ?On your mark, get set, GO!?
The girls try to fire balls that their partners can catch; Stephanie starts out with much better aim than Olivia, since the Green Monkeys win Ulm with fifty seconds left while the Orange Iguanas aren?t even coming close to scoring for the first time. The Iguanas win Ulm with forty seconds left and then follow the Monkeys up to Trafalgar. However, the Green Monkeys win Trafalgar with 38 seconds left, maintaining a lead. The Orange Iguanas cover ?Trafalgar? with 27 seconds to go, but the Green Monkeys are always one step ahead, covering ?Austerlitz? with 24 seconds on the clock.
?Green Monkeys only need one more to win!? remarks Kirk as Brian climbs up towards ?Jena.? The Orange Iguanas play catch-up and scramble to cover ?Austerlitz? as fast as they can, doing so with twelve seconds left. However, it?s only moments later that Brian catches a ball that Stephanie fired at him and sticks it on ?Jena,? ending the game.
?All right, that?s it! We have a winner!? Kirk announces, running onscreen and gesturing for the boys to climb back down the walls and for the girls to walk over. ?The Green Monkeys got all the way to Jenna with about ten seconds left, so they get the half Pendant? I mean, the full Pendant? giving them two, the Orange Iguanas had one. Green Monkeys are going to the Temple!? Brian and Stephanie jump up and down excitedly while Kirk goes to talk with the Orange Iguanas. ?It was a close match. The Orange Iguanas aren?t going away empty-handed. We got a nice gift for them for playing and here?s what it is.? Michael and Olivia will each be receiving a copy of the Kingdom Hearts II PlayStation 2 game.
The camera cuts back to Kirk with the Green Monkeys among the equipment for the third Temple Game. ?We?ll see if the Green Monkeys can make it through Olmec?s Temple and retrieve the Lost Love Letter of Jos?phine Bonaparte? right after this!? The camera zooms in on the Lost Love Letter in the Knights? Barracks before fading to commercial.
