SEASON 1, EPISODE 1
THE THREE GOLDEN APPLES OF HIPPONEMES

The camera makes its way through some plants and it eventually comes out.

Olmec:  Legends of the Hidden Temple (the audience starts cheering), with your guide, Kirk Fogg.  (Kirk comes from a trap door in the usual area.)

Kirk:  Thank you.  Nice to see you,  nice to see you, Olmec.  Welcome to the Legends of the Hidden Temple.  The rooms are filled with lost treasures protected by mysterious Mayan temple guards.  Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple.  Which one are we going to hear about today?

Olmec:  The Three Golden Apples of Hipponemes.

Kirk:  The golden apples!  One of these six teams will have the chance to retrieve the fruit.  Will it be the Red Jaguars, the Blue Barracudas, the Green Monkeys, the Orange Iguanas, the Purple Parrots, or the Silver Snakes?  They're going to have to pass some tough mental and physical challenges, and in the end only one team will have the right to enter Olmec's temple.  But first they have to cross the moat, and this is how they'll have to do it today.

Olmec:  In front of the teams are three barrels in the water.  One player must step on the final barrel and the other player must stand on the second barrel.  Then the players must grab the first barrel and put it in front of them.  Then both players must move one more barrel ahead.  They must keep repeating the process.  If either teammate's hands or knees, with the exception of picking up the barrel, touches the barrel, or if they fall off the barrels, both players must go back to the start.  When you reach the other side, hit the gong. (Kirk hits one of the gongs.)  The first four teams to get to the other side of the moat get to progress.

Kirk:  Teams, are you ready?

Teams:  Yeah!!

Kirk:  Are you ready, Olmec?

Olmec:  Let's rock!

Kirk:  On your mark, get set, go!

The Orange Iguanas fall off before they can even move the barrel once.  The other teams move at normal speed except for the Green Monkeys, who are moving very fast.  Just as the Green Monkeys are about to finish, one of them touches one of the barrels with their knees.  The Red Jaguars and the Purple Parrots soon hit the gong on the other side.  The Orange Iguanas went very fast and hit the gong on the other side.   And then guess what happens!?  All three remaining teams fell off of their barrels at the exact same time.  The Blue Barracudas quickly make it to the other side and hit the gong.

Kirk:  the teams that are going on to the next round are:  the Red Jaguars, the Blue Barracudas, the Orange Iguanas, and the Purple Parrots.  The Green Monkeys and the Silver Snakes gave it a great effort, and they're not going away empty handed.  This is what they'll get:  The Back to the Future Trilogy on DVD!!

Kirk:  As the quest continues, it's now time to learn about the three golden apples of Hipponemes.

Olmec:  Atalanta was the daughter of Iarus.  Iarus wanted to have a son, not a daughter, so he left Atalanta on the mountain to die from exposure.  However, some hunters found her.  When she grew up she said she'd only marry a man who could beat her in any race.  If a man could no beat her, she would kill him.  However, Hipponemes was up for the challenge.  Zeus gave Hipponemes three golden apples to help him.  The race then soon began.  Atalanta soon raced ahead of Hipponemes, but he threw one of the golden apples right ahead of her.  Atalanta picked the apple up and Hipponemes sped ahead of her.  However, Atalanta caught up.  Then Hipponemes threw another golden apple.  Atalanta picked the second apple up and Hipponemes sped in front of her again.  Atalanta soon ran ahead of Hipponemes again.  Then Hipponemes threw the final golden apple.  Once again Atalanta picked up the apple and Hipponemes ran ahead, and crossed the finish line before Atalanta did.  The two then got married and had a child named Parthenopaeus.  The golden apples eventually found their way to the temple.

Kirk:  Where can the apples be found?

Olmec:  They can be found in the Chamber of the Ancient Cubes.

Kirk:  Olmec is now going to start asking you questions.  When you think you know the answer, stomp on the ancient marking in front of you.  If you get it wrong or if you run out of time, I'll give the other teams a chance.  The first two teams to get tot the bottom step move on to the next round.  Olmec, we're ready for your first question.

Olmec:  Why did Atalanta get abandoned:  She was dangerous, Zeus...
Orange Iguanas:  Her father wanted a son.
Olmec:  Correct.  Who was Atalanta's father, Folp, Iarus, or Hercules?
Blue Barracudas:  Hercules?
Olmec:  Incorrect!
Orange Iguanas: Iarus
Olmec:  Correct!  Who found Atalanta, hunters, farmers, or hikers?
Red Jaguars: Hunters
Olmec:  Correct.  Atalanta would only marry someone if he could beat her in a tricky test, he won a footrace against Atalanta, or . . .
Orange Iguanas:  He could beat Atalanta in a footrace.
Olmec:  Correct
Kirk:  Orange Iguanas get to move to the next round.
Olmec:  What would Atalanta do if the man did not win?  She would kill him...
Blue Barracudas:  She would kill him.
Olmec:  Correct!  Who gave Hipponemes the three golden apples, Iarus, Hercules, or Zeus?
Red Jaguars: Zeus
Olmec:  Correct.  Who was Hipponemes' and Atalanta's child?
Red Jaguars:  Parthenopaeus
Olmec:  Correct!
Kirk:  The Red Jaguars and the Orange Iguanas get to move on to the next round.  The Blue Barracudas and the Purple Parrots gave a good effort, but they're not going to go away empty handed.  They get a $100 gift certificate to Toys R Us.  we're going to see if the Red Jaguars or the Orange Iguanas are going to make it to the temple - - right after this.

EDIT: I'm wondering, even thou the legend talks about all three apples, would the physical artifact be all three or just one? (I'm asking cause in the real show's episode The Snakeskin Boots of Billy the Kid, the legend referred to the boots as a pair but the artifact itself was just one boot.)

From the angle its often shown at it looks like one boot but its actually two.

Kirk: Welcome back to Legends Of The Hidden Temple. Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest. But before we continue, we'll introduce our teams. On the red jaguars we have,

Kirk: And how old are you?

Kirk: And over here we have,

Kirk: And how old are you?

Kirk: Let's hear it for the Red Jaguars!
And on the Orange Iguanas we have
"Trey"
Kirk: And how old are you?

Kirk: And who do we have over here?

Kirk: And how old are you?

Kirk: Let's hear it for the Orange Iguanas!

Kirk: In the Temple Games, teams are competing to win Pendants of Life.  The teams will need those pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded temple guards when making their way through the temple.  And here is Temple Game number one:

Olmec:  When Hipponemes and Atalanta were racing, Hipponemes threw 3 golden apples over Atalanta's head for bait.  Here you'll do the same.  When Kirk gives the signal, grab one of the golden apples in front of you.  Then, throw it through the hole above your opponent's head. You may also block your opponents' shots.  The first player who gets 3 apples through the holes, or the person who has gotten the most apples in their opponents' holes in 60 seconds, wins!

Kirk:  Let's put 60 seconds on the clock.  On your mark, get set, go!

The Red Jaguars quickly get an apple and throw it through his opponent's hole.  Then they keep blocking each others' shots.  Then the Red Jaguars score another shot.  Immediately after, the Orange Iguanas score a shot.  But the Red Jaguars score the third shot.

Kirk:  Okay, the Red Jaguars got their three apples, and a half Pendant of Life!  Let's continue on to the next game.

Olmec:  Before Atalanta was found by hunters, she was also found by bears.  Here you must help him.  When Kirk gives the signal, grab one of his bear cubs, and climb up him and put the bear cub next to the bear.  But the bear does not like how heavy you are, so he'll spit and snort at you.  The first person to return all 6 of his bear cubs, or the person who has returned the most cubs in 60 seconds wins.

Kirk:  Let's put 60 seconds on the clock.  On you marks, get set, Go!

The two players are neck in neck until the Red Jaguar's player slips and has to start over.  They keep moving on with the Orange Iguanas always having one more.

Kirk:  Okay.  The red Jaguaras got ... one, two, three cubs.  And the Orange Iguanas got ... one two, three, four cubs, so they get a half Pendant of Life!  Let's go on to the third and final Temple Game.

Olmec:  When the hunters found Atalanta, they had climbed a mountain.  In this game you will take the role of the hunters.  When Kirk gives the signal, one of you will help you partner up to the first ledge of the mountain.  Then your partner will pull you up to the ledge.  When you get to the top of the mountain, hit the gong.  The first team to hit their gong wins.

Kirk:  They've got a mountain to climb.  On your mark, get set, go!

Both the Red Jaguars and the Orange Iguanas get their first player on the first ledge at the same time, but the second Red Jaguar has trouble getting up to the first ledge.  By the time the second Red Jaguar gets up, both Orange Iguanas are on the second ledge.  The Orange Iguanas quickly get up on the third ledge and hit their gong.

Kirk:  Okay, the Orange Iguanas rang in first, so that gives them a full Pendant of Life!  The Orange Iguanas have 1.5 pendants, the Red Jaguars have a half, the Orange Iguanas are going to the temple!  Red Jaguars gave it a great try, but they're not going away empty handed.  They will be receiving a Nintendo Wii!  Let's see if the Orange Iguanas can make it through the temple.
