Episode 78px]

The camera maneuvers through a thick rainforest to stop in front of an ancient temple.  A giant stone head next to the gate of the temple begins to speak:
"LEGENDS OF THE HIDDEN TEMPLE! With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is NOW!"

On this final word, Kirk appears from behind the Temple Guard door in the Dungeon and runs straight out into the foreground of the stage to greet the crowd. "Thank you! Thank you very much! Nice to see you! Nice to see you, Olmec! Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple.  The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards.  Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple.  Which legend are we gonna hear about today?"

Olmec replies:
"The Navigation Plans of Sir Francis Drake."

"All right! The legend is set," Kirk says in response, "and one of these six teams will have the chance to retrieve those Navigation Plans.  Will it be:
"Daryl and Christine  of the Red Jaguars?" the camera pans to each team in order?
"Alexis and Cassidy of the Blue Barracudas,
"Brett and Erica of the Green Monkeys,
"Justin and Liz of the Orange Iguanas,
"Zach and Makena of the Purple Parrots,
"Or Alan and Jessie of the Silver Snakes?"

"They'll have to pass many tough physical and mental tests," Kirk says, "and in the end, only one team will earn the right to enter Olmec's Temple.  But first, they must cross the Moat, and here's how they'll do it today:
"In front of each team there's two bars that go across the Moat.  When I say go, one player from each team will stand on each of the bars.  They have to face each other, lock hands and walk sideways to get to the other side of the Moat.  But if either of them falls of or their hands end up loose, they?ll have to go back and start again."
"As soon as both players make it on the deck, they?ll have to run over here and hit the gong." He slams down on the Red Jaguars' gong to demonstrate. "The first four teams to hit their gongs will go on to the next round.  Are you ready?"
The players all cheer and shout in response.
"They?re ready, but Olmec, are you ready?" Kirk asks.
"I don?t have all day," Olmec replies.
"Okay," Kirk laughs in response. "On your mark teams, get set, GO!"

?There they go? Oh! Orange Iguanas fall!? Kirk starts the commentary as the girl on the Orange Iguanas completely misses the balance beam on her first step. ?It?s tough getting on those balance bars!? She gets up as the team players get on the bars and either lock hands or press palms to each other? depending on which is more comfortable for them? and start to walk sideways across the Moat. ?There, they got it.  They gotta mirror their partner?s movements to get across.? Certain teams end up holding up the rear, so the four qualifying teams are pretty obvious? that is, until the Purple Parrots? palms separate near the end and they need to be sent back.  The Blue Barracudas lock in first, the Green Monkeys second. ?We need two more teams!? The Silver Snakes make it out and hit their gong. ?Still looking for one more team!? A fourth gong is heard. ?And that?s it! We got our fourth team!?
The camera cuts to Kirk standing with the Red Jaguars by their lit-up gong. ?Red Jaguars strong all the way through.  They?re goin? on to the Steps of Knowledge, along with the Blue Barracudas?? the camera goes right down the line to show each qualifying team? ?and the Green Monkeys? and the Silver Snakes! Orange Iguanas and Purple Parrots gave it a great effort too.  We?ve got a great gift for them for playing and here?s what it is.? Justin, Liz, Zach and Makena will each be receiving a copy of How to Eat Fried Worms on DVD.

The four teams are now at the top of the Steps of Knowledge accompanied by Kirk. "As the quest continues, it's now time for Olmec to tell us about the Navigation Plans of Sir Francis Drake.  But pay attention teams, because your knowledge of the Legend can bring you one step closer to Olmec's Temple."
Olmec begins to tell the legend:
"The most fearless and determined of all the explorers was Sir Francis Drake.  In 1577, Queen Elizabeth I chose him to lead an expedition around the world for England.
" 'This will be tricky,' she said. 'Are you sure you?re up for it?'
" 'No problem Lizzy,' Francis replied, and he was off.  He sailed through the Strait of Magellan to get around South America and sailed all the way up to California, naming it Nova Albion and claiming it for England before moving on.  He sailed across the Pacific and Indian Oceans, reached the Cape of Good Hope at the southern tip of Africa, headed up the west coast and made it back to England three years after he left and much richer from having robbed some places along the way.  Queen Elizabeth came onto his ship, the Golden Hind, and knighted Francis in front of a crowd.
" 'But I thought the world was flat!' one man shouted. 'How did you do it?'
" 'Here?s how,' Francis said, holding his navigation plans in the air.  After the ceremony, however, his plans disappeared, and eventually made their way to the Temple.  Your quest is to find the Navigation Plans of Sir Francis Drake and bring them back here."

"Thanks a lot Olmec," Kirk says after Olmec finishes telling the legend. "So where are the Navigation Plans?"
Olmec replies:
"The Navigation Plans of Sir Francis Drake can be found in the Cathedral." The camera zooms in on a roll of papers tied to the top of the stained-glass window in the middle of the room, then fades back to Kirk.

"Teams," Kirk begins, walking down the steps, "you are now standing on the Steps of Knowledge, and in a minute, Olmec will ask you a question.  If you think you know the answer, I want you to stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you.  If you're right, you're gonna move down to the next level, but if you're wrong or run out of time, I'm gonna give the other teams a chance to answer.  The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec's Temple.  Olmec, we're now ready for your first question."

Olmec begins:
?Did Sir Francis sail: To India around Africa, Through the???
Alan hits the marking first: ?He sailed? all around the whole world.?
?Correct,? says Olmec in response.
?Nice job, Silver Snakes, step down,? says Kirk, and the Silver Snakes move down to the second step. ?Next question.?
Olmec asks:
?Which of these queens did he sail for: Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Elizabeth II???
Alan interrupts Olmec again: ?Queen Elizabeth I???
?That is correct,? Olmec answers.
?Whoo! Just like that, the Silver Snakes are now just one step away from the Temple Games,? Kirk says as the Silver Snakes move down to the third step. ?We?re looking for two teams.  Next question, Olmec.?
Olmec then asks:
?Was Sir Francis Drake?s ship known as the: Silver Hind, Golden Hind or Platinum???
A stomp by Cassidy interrupts Olmec this time: ?Um? Golden Hind???
?Correct,? Olmec replies.
?Blue Barracudas, step down!? Kirk encourages, and the Blue Barracudas move down to the second level. ?Olmec, next question.?
Olmec asks:
?To circle the globe, did Francis sail: West, East or In circles??
Jessie rings in: ?West.?
?That is correct!? shouts Olmec, and the Silver Snakes hop down onto the fourth step.
?Just like that, we got our first team going on to the Temple Games!? announces Kirk, and the audience cheers as Alan and Jessie hug for a few seconds. ?We?re looking for one more team; will it be the Red Jaguars, Blue Barracudas or Green Monkeys? Olmec, continue.?
Olmec does so by asking:
?Which of these explorers also tried to sail around the world: Columbus, Magellan or Vasco da Gama??
Christine buzzes in: ?Magellan???
?Red Jaguars, step down!? says Kirk, and the Red Jaguars move down beside the Blue Barracudas. ?Green Monkeys can catch up. Next question.?
Olmec asks:
?Was Sir Francis Drake from: Spain, England or Portu???
Erica cuts Olmec off this time: ?England.?
?Everyone?s on the board, it?s anybody?s game!? Kirk remarks as the Green Monkeys join the other teams on the second step. ?Next question, Olmec!?
Olmec now asks:
?When Francis headed up the western coast of the North America, he claimed a region he called ?Nova Albion? for England.  Do we now know this region as: Washington, British Columbia or California??
After a second, Christine rings in: ?British Columbia???
Erica gongs in: ?California???
?That is correct,? replies Olmec.
?Green Monkeys suddenly just one step away from the Temple Games! Good comeback!? comments Kirk as the Green Monkeys walk down onto the penultimate step. ?Olmec, next question, please.?
Olmec asks:
?Later in the journey, Francis passed around the southern tip of Africa.  Is this: Cape Horn, The Cape of Good Hope or Cape Cod??
Nobody rings in at first, but Cassidy stomps down just before time runs out: ?Um? Cape of? Good Hope.?
?That is correct.?
?Blue Barracudas one step away from the Temple Games! They?re fighting back!? comments Kirk as the Blue Barracudas move down beside the Green Monkeys. ?Next question, Olmec.?
Olmec continues:
?When Francis returned to England, did Queen Elizabeth knight him: On his ship, In her palace or In a church??
Brett hits the marking first: ?On his ship???
?THAT IS CORRECT!? bellows Olmec, and the Green Monkeys hop down beside the Silver Snakes.
?That?s it! We got our two teams!? Kirk announces, running up the middle of the bottom step before the two qualifying teams start celebrating with each other.  He then turns to face the camera. ?They?re the Green Monkeys and the Silver Snakes! Thye?re both going on to face off in the Temple Games! Red Jaguars, Blue Barracudas, you guys gave it a great effort too.  You?re not going away empty-handed, we got a great gift for you and here?s what it is.? Daryl, Christine, Cassidy and Alexis will each be receiving a watch provided by Armitron.
The camera cuts back to the bottom of the Steps of Knowledge, where Kirk is standing between the Green Monkeys and the Silver Snakes. ?These two teams will be playing for the right to enter Olmec?s Temple,? he says, ?right after this!? The camera pans across the entire Temple before fading to commercial.
Title: Rediscovery EP: The Navigation Plans of Sir Francis Drake
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on October 21, 2009, 05:20:39 AM
Kirk is standing in front of the Great Chasm between the two remaining teams. ?Welcome back to Legends,? he says. ?Now is the time when the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest, so let?s hear it for Brett and Erica of the Green Monkeys!? The brown-haired boy with hazel eyes and freckles and dark-haired girl clap along with the audience. ?And let?s hear it for Alan and Jessie of the Silver Snakes!? The short-haired, brown-eyed boy and curly-blond-haired girl clap along with the audience.
?You guys ready to play?? asks Kirk.
?YEAH!? The players reply.
?Okay, so girls go get ready for the first Temple Game, guys go get ready for the second Temple Game,? Kirk says, pointing in different directions, and the players walk offscreen. ?In the Temple Games, each team is competing for?" he opens a pouch and pulls out a small gold medallion to show to the camera? "Pendants of Life.  They?ll need those Pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded Temple Guards as they make their way through the Temple.  There are three Temple Games, and Olmec, tell us about Temple Game #1.?

Olmec begins:
?Sir Francis Drake sailed around the entire world, but in this game, your journey will be much shorter.  When Kirk gives the signal, sail to the island, get out and mount your flag on the island.  Then, turn around and pull yourself back to the dock.
?The first player to mount their flag and return with both feet on the dock? or the player that?s further along after 30 seconds? wins.?
?Remember they have to get the boat on the dock and then run up,? Kirk says, standing in the middle of the dock. ?Let?s put 30 seconds on the clock.? A countdown clock appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen. ?On your mark, get set, GO!?
Neither Erica nor Jessie paddles out very quickly, but the two girls are neck-and-neck on the way down.  They both mount their flags with twelve seconds remaining, then race to make it back to the dock.  However, Jessie pulls on the rope faster than Erica, getting the boat up to the dock with two seconds left.  She runs back onto the dock as time runs out and the ceiling spotlights above flash, but Erica is still pulling herself back in.
?All right, that?s it!? Kirk announces. ?Jessie made it back just before time ended, so Silver Snakes get the half Pendant of Life!? The audience applauds for a moment. ?Green Monkeys can catch up in the next game, it?s worth a half Pendant too.  Olmec, tell us about it.?

Olmec continues:
?Francis Drake traveled a lot when he sailed around the world for Queen Elizabeth.  When Kirk gives the signal, climb on the wheel and adjust your weight to make the wheel spin.  When it makes one full rotation, it means you have traveled one more mile on the voyage.  The player who travels the most miles in 60 seconds wins.?
The camera fades to Kirk in front of the giant wheels marked with the show?s insignia. ?Our players are ready to get a little dizzy,? he says. ?Let?s put 60 seconds on the clock.? The countdown clock reappears in the corner of the screen, and Kirk dashes off to the side. ?On your mark, get set, GO!?
Both players move at a good pace, but Alan is slightly ahead of Brett from the beginning of the game, and it doesn?t help the Green Monkeys any when Brett first falls off the wheel with 41 seconds on the clock.  The Green Monkeys? wheel completes its fourth revolution as Brett falls, but the Silver Snakes have already scored five times by then.  Brett gets back on the wheel only to fall again with 24 seconds remaining and for a third time with twelve seconds left, allowing Alan to move further ahead.  When time runs out, a pattern of ceiling spotlights flashes to mark the end of the game.
?All right, time?s up guys! C?mon down!? shouts Kirk as he reappears onscreen. ?Looks like Green Monkeys got 11 miles, but Silver Snakes got 13! Silver Snakes get the half Pendant of Life!? The audience applauds again. ?Green Monkeys can still catch up in the third game, it?s worth a full Pendant.  Olmec, tell us about Temple Game #3, the third and final game.?

Olmec narrates:
?Legend has it Francis Drake?s voyage opened up new trade routes between England and faraway places in the world.  In this game, you and your partner will have to transfer objects again and again.  When Kirk gives the signal, put a ball between your legs.  You and your partner will then swing out on the trapeze to the middle, where you?ll meet and transfer the ball.  Then, swing back, place it in your team?s bin and try it again.
?The team with the most balls in their bin after 60 seconds wins.?
?This is for the Temple,? Kirk reminds the audience. ?Let?s put 60 seconds on the clock.? The clock appears onscreen. ?On your mark, get set, GO!?
The teams both start off fairly well and both complete their first transfers with 44 seconds remaining, and this stays consistent.  The teams both score again with 30 seconds left and then 16 seconds to go.  In the last few seconds, the Green Monkeys score, followed by the Silver Snakes with one second left.  The countdown clock then hits zero and the ceiling spotlights flash  and Kirk goes over to check out the scores.
?Okay, that?s it!? he says. ?Green Monkeys got?? he pulls the balls out of the bins as he counts? ?one, two, three? four balls.  Orange Iguanas got one, two, three? four balls! It?s a tie? they each get the full Pendant, so Green Monkeys have a Pendant, but the Silver Snakes have two? they?re goin? to the Temple!? Alan and Jessie meet each other and high-five each other before sharing some congratulatory high-fives with the Green Monkeys. ?The Green Monkeys gave it a great effort, and they?re not going away empty-handed.  We got a great gift for them and here?s what it is.? Brett and Erica will each be receiving a copy of the Ape Escape 3 Nintendo Game Cube game.
When the camera cuts back from the consolation prize, only Kirk and the Silver Snakes are present, standing in the middle of the equipment for the third Temple Game. ?We?ll see if the mighty Silver Snakes can make it through Olmec?s Temple and retrieve the Navigation Plans of Sir Francis Drake,? he says, ?right after this!? The camera swerves across the stage and zooms in on the skeleton on the Shrine ladder in the Dungeon before fading to commercial.

Kirk stands in front of the Temple's stairs to the camera-right of Alan and Jessie. "Welcome back to Legends," he says to the camera. "The Silver Snakes have proven themselves worthy and earned the right to enter the Temple.  But first, Olmec?s gonna give them some information to help them find the Navigation Plans of Francis Drake."
Olmec begins to give the rundown:
?You could start by climbing through the Crevasse and climbing down into the Great Chasm.  Crawl through the pit, then race into the Crystal Cave.  Pull down the correct stalactite, and you could choose to go up into the Cathedral, where you can grab the Navigation Plans? or, you might venture into the Junction of the Secret Shafts.  If you escape, you might have a chance to enter the Switch Inferno.  Hit the right actuator to go upstairs, or plow through the wall and into the Dungeon.
?Then, climb up the Pharaoh?s Secret Passage into the Geographer?s Study.  Take the correct book off the bookshelf to open the door to the SHRIIIIIIiiine? of the Silver Monkey.  Assemble the statue, and you may be headed for the Knights? Barracks.  Place the sword in the correct sheath, and you could advance into the Laser Light Room.  Find the right combination to unleash the power of the laser, and swing on the rope back across the Great Chasm.  Then, pass through the Arctic Antechamber, race down the stairs and back through the Temple Gate.  The choices are yours and yours alone.? Olmec pauses for a second here. "You won 2 Pendants in the Temple Games.  Who's going first??
"I am," says Jessie.
"Very well, Jessie!" Olmec replies, while Kirk hands out the Pendants of Life. "When Kirk gives the signal, you'll race through the gates into the Temple and make your way towards the Navigation Plans of Sir Francis Drake.  Hidden inside the Temple are ventilation shafts? three ventilation shafts that let out in the Junction of the Secret Shafts, as well as Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms.  You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on BUT if you're caught without a Pendant, you'll be taken out of the Temple? and it'll be Alan's turn to enter and try his luck.  If you can reach the Plans, all the doors of the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish.  Return through the gates with the Navigation Plans in three minutes, and you will both be handsomely rewarded? and here's how!"
?   For just getting into the Temple, they?re both going to get a pair of Rollerblades.
?   If they can reach the Map within three minutes, they?re also going to get an Ultra-Bounce trampoline provided by Bollinger.
?   And if they can get the Maps out of the Temple before 3 minutes is up, they?ll both be going to the Bahamas! The Bahamas Princess Resort, on exciting Grand Bahama Island, offering tennis, swimming and international entertainment.  Fun for the whole family! Bahamas Princess Resort, for a prize package totaling $10,694!

"Time to see if the Silver Snakes can make it to the Bahamas," Kirk tells the camera before turning to Alan. "So, Alan: How're you gonna get to the Navigation Plans?"
"Um?" Alan begins to explain, "we're gonna try to go through the room up there?" he points to the Arctic Antechamber? "across the Pit and try the door? just in case we get lucky.  But if that doesn't work, we're going up into the King's Storeroom and around that way."
"All right," Kirk says before turning to Jessie. "Well, we're about to see if that works out here.  Jessie, let's get you out in front.  Put your mouthpieces in, and put three minutes on the clock." The clock appears onscreen. "Olmec, lower your gate!"
Olmec groans gutturally as he lowers the gate; the blue lights under him are turned off.
"On your mark, get set, GO!"

Jessie runs up the stairs of the Temple into the Arctic Antechamber. ?There goes Jessie, with two Pendants!? Kirk begins the commentary as she sets foot in the room and begins to break down the ice walls by walking through them.  After breaking down one, the door into the Great Chasm opens, and Jessie moves on with 2:44 on the clock.  She swings across the gap using the rope; when she lands on the other ledge, she hits the actuator for the Cathedral, but the door doesn?t open.  She then tries the actuator for the Laser Light Room, but again, the door doesn?t open, so she drops down off the ledge and hits the actuator for the Crystal Cave, which does open (2:28).  She passes through into the next room, but out from the corner of the room jumps the first TEMPLE GUARD!
?Woah! Temple Guard! That scared her, scared me!? Kirk remarks as Jessie jumps back, startled.  She composes herself and gives up her Pendant of Life with 2:16 remaining, then goes to complete the objective. ?Good, now she?s gotta pull down the icicles!? Jessie looks up at the stalactites on the ceiling and pulls down each stalactite with two hands, starting with the one right of the ladder and moving around the front of the ladder.  The stalactite behind the ladder? the last one she pulls down? opens the door into the Junction of the Secret Shafts.  Jessie crawls through with 1:58 on the clock, but as she starts to go across the room, out comes the second TEMPLE GUARD!
?There, she?s outta there! Go Alan!? shouts Kirk as Jessie is grabbed, and Alan runs into the Temple (1:54).  He runs through the Arctic Antechamber, jumps down into the Great Chasm, passes through the Crystal Cave and enters the Junction of the Secret Shafts with 1:31 on the clock.  Alan heads across the room and hits the actuator for the crawl tube closer to the front of the room, but when he tries to crawl through, the door doesn?t open.  He crawls back out and then hits the actuator for the crawl tube in the back of the room.  This time it opens, and he enters the Switch Inferno with 1:15 to go.  Alan looks around for a few seconds. ?He could hit the buttons to go up or he could bust through the wall!? Alan decides to plow through the stone wall into the Dungeon, entering the room with 1:07 left.  He reaches for the ladder on the side wall to try and reach the Shrine door, but before he can start climbing, out comes the third TEMPLE GUARD!
?Oh! That?s it? No, he?s got a Pendant!? remarks Kirk.  Alan hands over his Pendant of Life with 58 seconds left, then climbs up the far side of the ladder to try to the Shrine door. ?Temple Guards all out of the way, that?s good.? Alan reaches for the actuator for the door, trying to snake through the ladder (0:51).  When that doesn?t work, he moves around to the side of the ladder closer to the door (0:45) and hits the actuator for the door.  He finally sets foot in the Shrine of the Silver Monkey with forty seconds remaining.
?All right, he?s into the Shriiiiine of the SIIIIIL-ver Monkey!? Kirk shouts as Alan gets up and moves for the parts of the statue, grabbing them one at a time and putting them in the proper positions with little trouble. ?He?s trying to catch up, I like his style! Thirty seconds!? He puts the head in and jams it down with 21 seconds on the clock, and passes into the Knights? Barracks.  Once there, he takes the sword from the railing in the front of the room and puts it in the stage-right sheath.  It happens to be a lucky guess, as the door into the Cathedral opens with eleven seconds to go, and Alan crawls through. ?There, he?s in the room! Grab the Map! Get the Map!? Alan heads straight to the front of the room, and with seven seconds remaining, he grabs the NAVIGATION PLANS!
?HE?S GOT ?EM! All the doors are open!? Kirk announces as Alan leaves the Cathedral through the newly-open door into the Great Chasm.  He reaches out for the rope and swings across the pit? but we?re out of time!
?Oh, that?s it! Time?s up!? explains Kirk. ?They gave it a great effort, though, and they got the Navigation Plans of Sir Francis Drake, so they get the Rollerblades and the trampoline.  Did that Temple Guard scare you?? He holds the microphone up to Jessie?s mouth.
?Yeah, he did,? she smiles.
?We gotta get outta here,? says Kirk. ?I don?t wanna, but we gotta.  Check us out next time for more adventure and another great Legend of the Hidden Temple! Buh-bye!? The camera shows Kirk, Jessie, Alan and the Navigation Plans as well as rooms such as the Cathedral as the credits roll.

Temple Run Summary
Episode 78px]

Name of Artifact: The Navigation Plans of Sir Francis Drake
Season: 2
Layout: 5 (9 overall)
Result: Did not escape in time
Time Remaining: N/A
Team: Silver Snakes
Pendants Won: 2
Location of Artifact: The Cathedral

If anything prevented this run from being a win, it was the fact that the players weren't the fastest.  Jessie and Alan both knew what they were doing, and they also were lucky, since they completed the objectives in more than one room on the first try.  Although Alan did reach the Navigation Plans in time, only seven seconds were left when he grabbed them.  Time ran out as he was swinging across the Great Chasm.

Trivia and Records:
This is the only time an artifact is located in the Cathedral.  It's also one of the few Temple Runs where time runs out while the contestant is in midair.

Nice fic, but I noticed a mistake at the end of your first post, where you gave a little "spoiler" for the end of the Steps of Knowledge. :P

Other than that, great work!

Pretty exciting episode, much like "The Comet Embroidered Battle Flag of William the Conqueror" or to make you proud, "The Jeweled Sword of Charlemagne". :P Just something I'm throwing out there (but not really that critical), but do you think you can give more time notices, especially nearer to the end to build up more suspense or something?

I see what you mean, actually.  I looked back at some of my Season 1 episodes just now and I realized I did mention the time left a lot more back then.  So yeah, I think I'll try to remember that for the last few episodes.
