Episode 63px]

The camera maneuvers through a thick rainforest to stop in front of an ancient temple.  A giant stone head next to the gate of the temple begins to speak:
"LEGENDS OF THE HIDDEN TEMPLE! With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is NOW!"

On this final word, Kirk appears from behind the Temple Guard door in the Dungeon and runs straight out into the foreground of the stage to greet the crowd. "Thank you! Thank you very much! Nice to see you! Nice to see you, Olmec! Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple.  The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards.  Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple.  Which legend are we gonna hear about today?"

Olmec replies:
"The Legend of the Keys to Anne of Cleves?s Palace."

"Well the legend is set," Kirk says in response, "and one of these teams will have a chance to retrieve the Keys to Anna Cleave?s Palace.  Will it be:
"Tony and Felicia of the Red Jaguars?" the camera pans to each team in order?
"Tyler and Lara of the Blue Barracudas,
"Pat and Hannah of the Green Monkeys,
"Jesse and Brittany of the Orange Iguanas,
"Mark and Noelle of the Purple Parrots,
"Or Jared and Marissa of the Silver Snakes?"

"They'll have to pass many physical and mental tests," Kirk says, "and in the end, only one team will earn the right to enter Olmec's Temple.  But first, they?ll have to cross the Moat, and here's how they'll have to do it today??
"Hey, look, the Moat's totally frozen! When I say go, one player from each team has to crawl through the holes in the boards there lying across the ice.  When he reaches the other side of the Moat, then his partner will crawl through the holes to get to the other side."
"As soon as the second player crawls out onto the deck, it's his job to run over and hit the gong." He slams down on the Red Jaguars' gong to demonstrate. "The first four teams to hit their gongs will be going into the next round.  Are you ready, teams?"
The players all cheer and shout in response.
"Olmec, are you ready?" asks Kirk.
"Let?s roll!" Olmec replies.
"All right," Kirk says in response. "On your marks, teams, get set? GO!!"

?There, they?re off!? shouts Kirk.  The teams take off, sending their first players to crawl through the holes in the four partitions ahead of them.  The Moat crossing remains a fairly close match as the girls make it through the holes; the girl on the Red Jaguars is the first across only by a nose, with the girls on the Orange Iguanas and Purple Parrots being close behind.
?This looks really close, it?s hard to call!? remarks Kirk as the other teams get their first members across.  The boys all scramble to make it across after their partners.  After some more struggling, the boys on the Red Jaguars and Green Monkeys make it through the last hole and go to hit their respective gongs almost simultaneously.
?Just like that, we got two teams moving on!? comments Kirk. ?We just need two more!? The boy on the Orange Iguanas makes it across next. ?We?re still looking for one more team!? One more gong sound is heard. ?And that?s it! We got our four teams right here!?
The camera cuts to Kirk joining the Red Jaguars at their gong. ?The Red Jaguars blazed through the Moat.  They?re going to the Steps of Knowledge, with the Green Monkeys?? the camera then shows each of the other winning teams? ?and the Orange Iguanas? and the Silver Snakes! Blue Barracudas and Purple Parrots gave it great effort.  Here?s what we got for them.? Tyler, Lara, Mark and Noelle will each be receiving a copy of How to Eat Fried Worms on DVD.
Title: Rediscovery EP: The Keys to Anne of Cleves's Palace
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on August 03, 2009, 11:27:42 PM
The four teams are now at the top of the Steps of Knowledge accompanied by Kirk. "The quest continues, and now it?s time for Olmec to tell us about the Legend of the Keys to the Anne of Cleves Palace.  Pay attention, because your knowledge of the Legend can bring you a step closer to the Temple."
Olmec begins to tell the legend:
"One of the most powerful kings of England was Henry VIII.  He was known for his split from Rome and uniting Wales with England, but he was best-known for having six wives.  After his third wife, Jane Seymour, died, legend has it Henry began looking somewhere other than England for a wife.  He was considering Anne of Cleves, a lady from Germany, and summoned his painter, Hans Holbein, to show him what she looks like.  When Hans showed Henry the finished work, he was pleased.
" 'She looks absolutely ravishing! I must have her,' declared Henry.  However, when he met Anne of Cleves in person at the wedding?"
A girl?s shriek is played as a picture supposedly representing what Anne really looked like is shown.
" 'She?s nowhere near as beautiful as everyone said!' he remarked with disgust.  Nevertheless, Henry and Anne were forced into a wedding.  The marriage was annulled after only six months, but Henry adopted Anne as a sister and gave her her own palace.  When she died, the keys to the palace disappeared.  Your goal is to retrieve the Keys to Anne of Cleves?s Palace and bring them back here."

"Thank you Olmec," Kirk says after Olmec finishes telling the legend. "Olmec, where are the Keys?"
Olmec replies:
"The Keys to Anne of Cleves?s Palace can be found on the Bridge." The camera zooms in on the Keys hanging from the Arctic Antechamber actuator, then fades back to Kirk.

"All right.  Teams," Kirk begins, walking down the steps, "you're now standing on the Steps of Knowledge, and in a minute, Olmec will ask you a question.  If you think you know the answer, I want you to stomp down on that ancient marking in front of you.  If you're right, you?ll move down to the next level, but if you're wrong or run out of time, I'll give the other teams a chance.  The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec's Temple.  Olmec, we?re ready for your first question."

Olmec begins:
?Was Anne of Cleves married to: James I???
Felicia hits the marking first: ?Henry VIII!?
?Correct,? answers Olmec.
?Nice job, Red Jaguars, step down!? says Kirk, and the Red Jaguars move down to the second step. ?Next question.?
Olmec now asks:
?Was Anne Henry?s: Fourth wife, Fifth wife or Sixth wife??
After a moment, Tony buzzes in: ?Sixth wife???
?Incorrect,? replies Olmec.
Hannah rings in: ?Fourth wife.?
?Correct,? says Olmec in response.
?Green Monkeys, step down!? Kirk says, and the Green Monkeys join the Red Jaguars on the second step. ?Olmec, next question.?
Olmec asks:
?Which of these didn?t Henry like about Anne of Cleves: The way she talked, The way she???
Hannah gongs in again: ?Her? beauty???
There is a pause.
?That is correct,? Olmec finally answers.
?Green Monkeys now just one step away from the Temple Games,? says Kirk as the Green Monkeys step down, ?but we?re looking for two teams.  Next question, Olmec.?
Olmec then asks:
?Which of these artists painted Anne for Henry VIII: Rembrandt, Michelangelo or Hans Holbein??
Felicia stomps down and guesses: ?Hands Holbein???
?That is correct,? replies Olmec.
?Red Jaguars just one step away from the Temple Games!? remarks Kirk as the Red Jaguars join the Green Monkeys on the third level. ?Orange Snakes, Silver Snakes, you can still get into this.  Next question.?
Olmec asks:
?Were Anne and Henry married for: Six weeks, Six months or Six years??
Jared rings in: ?Six months???
?Orange Iguanas can still get into this,? says Kirk as the Silver Snakes move down to the second level. ?Olmec, next question.?
Olmec then asks:
?When the marriage was annulled, did Henry: Send Anne back home, Adopt Anne as a sister or Have Anne beheaded??
Pat hits the marking first: ?He adopted her? as his sister.?
?That is correct!? shouts Olmec, and the Green Monkeys grab each other by the hand and jump down onto the bottom level.
?Green Monkeys! We got our first team going on to the Temple Games, and it?s the Green Monkeys!? announces Kirk as Pat and Hannah jump up and down and high-five on the bottom step. ?We still need one more team, but will it be the Red Jaguars, Orange Iguanas or Silver Snakes? Olmec, continue.?
Olmec does so by asking:
?Was Anne of Cleves from???
Jesse buzzes in: ?Um? Germany???
?Correct,? answers Olmec.
?Orange Iguanas on the board!? says Kirk as the Orange Iguanas move down. ?Next question, Olmec.?
Olmec continues:
?Which of these countries did Henry VIII unite with England: Scotland, Ireland or Wales??
Marissa stomps down and guesses: ?Ireland???
Brittany rings in: ?Scotland???
?Incorrect,? Olmec replies. ?The correct answer was Wales.?
?All right,? says Kirk. ?Tough question, Olmec.  Let?s keep going. Next question.?
Olmec asks:
?After the annulment, did Anne of Cleves receive: Her own palace, A huge fortune or A diff???
Brittany interrupts Olmec again: ?Her palace???
?That is correct,? says Olmec in response.
?Orange Iguanas coming from behind, and now they?re just one step away from the Temple Games!? remarks Kirk as the Orange Iguanas hop down onto the penultimate level. ?This is getting pretty close.  Next question.?
Olmec next asks:
?Before Anne of Cleves, was Henry VIII married to: Eleanor of Aquitaine, Jane Seymour or Elizabeth II??
Tony buzzes in: ?Jane Seymour???
?THAT IS CORRECT!? bellows Olmec, and the Red Jaguars go around the Green Monkeys to get to the bottom step.  Kirk slips in behind the two qualifying teams as they start to jump up and down, high-five one another, shake hands and so on.
?That?s it! We got our two teams!? announces Kirk. ?They are the Red Jaguars and the Green Monkeys! Orange Iguanas, Silver Snakes, you guys gave it a great effort.  We got a good gift for you both and here?s what it is.? Jesse, Brittany, Jared and Marissa will each be receiving an Armitron watch.
The camera cuts back to Kirk with the qualifying teams at the bottom of the Steps of Knowledge. ?These two teams will be player for the right to enter Olmec?s Temple,? he says, ?and they?re gonna do it right after this!? The camera zooms in on the Keys on the Bridge before fading to commercial.
Title: Rediscovery EP: The Keys to Anne of Cleves's Palace
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on August 03, 2009, 11:29:23 PM
Kirk is now standing in front of the Mine Shaft between the two remaining teams. ?Welcome back to Legends,? he says. ?Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest, so let?s hear it for Tony and Felicia of the Red Jaguars!? The short-haired boy and short-dark-haired girl clap along with the audience. ?And Pat and Hannah of the Green Monkeys!? The brown-haired boy and curly-blond-haired girl with freckles applaud with the audience.
?Why don?t you go get ready for the Temple Games,? Kirk says as the players walk offscreen. ?Let me pull out a Pendant of Life?" He opens a pouch and pulls out a small gold medallion to show to the camera. "They?re playing for those, and the winning team will need those Pendants to protect themselves from the DREADED Temple Guards as they make their way through the Temple.  There are three Temple Games.  Olmec, tell us about Temple Game #1.?

Olmec begins:
?Hans Holbein painted a more flattering picture of Anne of Cleves to help her get married, but he had to pick and choose the features to put in the painting.  In this game, you must gather the features.  You are now strapped in a rotating lever and, when Kirk gives the signal, you will run around to grab a facial feature off of the pedestal.  Next, return to place it on Anne?s face.
?The first player to complete the face? or the player who put the most features on the face after 60 seconds? wins.?
?Making faces, huh?? Kirk says with an odd facial reaction. ?Sounds like hard work.  Let?s set the clock for 60 seconds.? A countdown clock appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen. ?On your mark, get set, GO!?
Felicia and Pat get going, jumping around in a circle due to the set-up of the rotating lever.  Felicia gets an eye on her first attempt, but Pat misses the pedestal.  Felicia places the eye on the face? albeit somewhat out-of-position? after only about six seconds.  She gets the second eye in place with 44 seconds on the clock, and then gets the mouth on as Pat finally gets an eye on the face at :38.
?This game takes some momentum,? Kirk comments. ?They gotta find the right timing to make some faces.? Finally, Felicia misses the face as Pat gets the mouth at the halfway mark.  The players miss consistently in the third quarter of the game, neither scoring again until Pat gets an ear on the face (where the nose should be) with just four seconds left.  When the countdown clock hits zero, a pattern of ceiling spotlights flashes to indicate that the first Temple Game is over.
?All right! Stop the players!? Kirk shouts to the spotters as he appears onscreen to count up the scores. ?All right, looks like both teams got three pieces, so they each get a half Pendant of Life!? The audience applauds for a moment. ?The next Temple Game is worth a half Pendant.  Olmec, tell us about it.?

Olmec continues:
?Anne of Cleves lived in Germany, and Henry VIII was the King of England.  The journey between the two places wasn?t easy.  When Kirk gives the signal, put your rod behind your head and make your way through the European forest.  Whenever you come to two trees, you must find a way to maneuver between or around them, keeping your rod behind your head and both of your hands on it.
?The first player to reach the end of the forest? or the player that?s closest to the end after 60 seconds wins.?
?You wooden wanna get lost in there,? Kirk says. ?Let?s put 60 seconds on the clock.? The clock appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen. ?On your marks, get set, GO!?
Both players start out very slowly, although Tony does have a lead over Hannah.  Additionally, Hannah takes a strange wrong turn near the end, resulting in a very tight squeeze.  As a result, Tony gets a safer lead as he nears the end of the three-dimensional maze and makes it out with thirteen seconds left.
?That?s it!? Kirk announces. ?Whoo, the Red Jaguars had a nice lead over the Green Monkeys.  They get a half Pendant of Life!? The audience applauds again. ?So now it?s one Pendant for the Red Jaguars, Green Monkeys have a half, we go to the third game, it?s worth a full Pendant.  It?s the third and final game.  Olmec, tell us.?

Olmec narrates:
?When Anne of Cleves and Henry VIII divorced, she was given her own castle, and all her possessions were moved into it.  In this game, you will help move some of her treasures.  When Kirk gives the signal, grab a gold artifact and run out to meet your partner at the middle of the path.  Then pass the gold treasure to your partner, who will slide back and place it in your team?s treasure box.  Then go back and try it again.
?The team with the most pieces of gold in their treasure box after 60 seconds wins.?
?This is for the Temple,? Kirk reminds the audience. ?Let?s put 60 seconds on the clock.? The clock appears onscreen. ?On your mark, get set, GO!?
The players grab onto the raised sides of the tracks and walk against the force of the bungee cords attaching them to the walls behind them.  The cord are only just long enough so that the players can meet in the middle, so this game certainly proves to be harder than it appeared at first glance.  The Green Monkeys score first a few seconds before the Red Jaguars score for the first time; the first artifacts meet the bins at :50 and :48 respectively.  The second time, the teams are tied; both get the artifacts in with 32 seconds left.
?There?s a lot of timing and communication,? Kirk explains as the teams start up for the third time.  The Jaguars get the third transfer made with 20 seconds to go, two seconds ahead of the Green Monkeys; the teams stay fairly neck-and-neck until the ceiling spotlights flash to indicate the game is over.
?Okay,? Kirk says as he walks into the space between the tracks and peers into the treasure boxes.  As soon as the spotters unfasten the kids, they run over to join him. ?Green Monkeys got? that one wasn?t in time?? Kirk pulls the treasures out of the boxes as he counts? ?one, two? three piecea of gold, Red Jaguars got one, two, three? four pieces of gold! Red Jaguars get the full Pendant, that gives them two, the Green Monkeys had a half.  The Red Jaguars are goin? to the Temple!? Tony and Felicia high-five each other several times. ?Green Monkeys, you guys gave it a great effort to,? says Kirk. ?Here?s what we?ve got for you.? Pat and Hannah will each be receiving a $100 U.S. Savings Bond provided by Nestle.
Only Kirk and the Red Jaguars are present when the camera cuts away from the consolation prize. ?We?ll see if the Red Jaguars can make it through Olmec?s Temple and retrieve the Keys to Anne of Cleves? Palace? right after this!? The camera pans over to the Shrine of the Silver Monkey and then fades to commercial.

Kirk stands in front of the Temple's stairs to the camera-right of Tony and Felicia. "Welcome back to Legends," he says to the camera. "The Red Jaguars have proven themselves worthy and now have earned the right to enter Olmec?s Temple.  But first, Olmec?s gonna give them some information to help them retrieve the Keys to Anna Cleave?s Palace."
Olmec begins to give the rundown:
?You could start by climbing through the Crevasse and climbing down into the Mine Shaft.  Throw enough rocks into the bucket to lift the slab, then race into the Crystal Cave.  Pull down the correct icicle, and you could choose to go up into the Dragon?s Lair, or into the Junction of the Secret Shafts.  If you escape, you might have a chance to enter the Switch Inferno.  Hit the right actuator to go upstairs, or plow through the wall and into the Dungeon.
?There, climb up the Pharaoh?s Secret Passage into the Geographer?s Study.  Take the correct book off the bookshelf, and put it on the pedestal in the front of the room to open the door to the SHRIIIIIIIIIIINE of the Silver Monkey.  Assemble the statue, and you may be headed for the Knights? Barracks.  Place the sword in the correct sheath, and you could advance into the Laser Light Room.  Find the right combination to unleash the power of the laser, and run across the Bridge, where you can grab the Keys to Anne of Cleves?s Palace.  Then, pass through the Arctic Antechamber, race down the stairs and back through the Temple Gate.  The choices are yours and yours alone.? Olmec pauses for a second here. "You won 2 Pendants in the Temple Games.  Who's going first??
"I am," says Tony.
"Very well, Tony," replies Olmec as Kirk hands out the Pendants of Life. "When Kirk gives the signal, you'll race through the gates into the Temple and make your way towards the Keys.  Hidden inside the Temple are three ventilation shafts which may lead you into the Junction of the Secret Shafts, as well as Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms.  You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on, but if you're caught without a Pendant, you'll be taken out of the Temple? and then it'll be Felicia's turn to enter and try her luck.  If you can reach the Keys, all the doors of the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish.  Return through the gates with the Keys in three minutes, and you will both be handsomely rewarded? and here's how!"
?   For just getting into the Temple, they?re both going to get a pair of Rollerblades.
?   If they can reach the Keys within three minutes, they?re also going to get a Nintendo video game chair.
?   And if they can get the Keys out of the Temple before 3 minutes is up, they?ll both be going to the Bahamas! The Bahamas Princess Resort, on exciting Grand Bahama Island, offering tennis, swimming and international entertainment.  Fun for the whole family! Bahamas Princess Resort, for a prize package totaling $10,594!

"The Bahamas! All right!" Kirk says before turning to Felicia. "So, Felicia, how do you think you're gonna get to the Palace Keys?"
"Well," Felicia explains, "we're gonna go up? and right across? But if that doesn't work, we're gonna go into the cave?" she points at the Crystal Cave, "go all the way up? over onto the Bridge, and get it and go out."
"Well, I hope that works out here," Kirk says. "Tony, let's get you out in front.  Mouthpieces in.  Lower the gate, Olmec!"
Olmec groans gutturally as he lowers the gate; the blue lights under him are turned off.
"Three minutes on the clock." The clock appears onscreen. "On your mark, get set, GO!"

?There goes Tony!? Kirk declares as Tony runs through the gate, but he trips heading up the stairs, taking a second and a half to recover. ?Ooh! He slips and falls, but he?s all right! He shakes it off, he?s headed to the Ice Wall Room!? Tony sets foot in the Arctic Antechamber with 2:52 remaining. ?He?s gotta run down the ice walls to open a door!? Tony runs around the room, plowing through all three of the ice-filled portals, sending frozen rocks everywhere.  The door to the Bridge doesn?t open, but the door leading down to the Crevasse does when Tony runs through the second ice wall (the one in front of the ladder). ?Oh, he wanted to go on, but he?s heading down! Down into the Crevasse!?
?Go Tony!? Felicia cheers her partner on. ?C?mon!?
Tony crawls through the ledges of the Crevasse, opening up the upper crawl tube and entering the Mine Shaft with 2:31 on the clock. ?He?s gotta put the rocks into the bucket,? explains Kirk, ?and that?ll open up the rock slab!? Tony throws the rocks into the bucket, and the stone slab covering the door leading into the Crystal Cave rises all the way after only four rocks are in the bucket.  Tony hits the actuator for the Crystal Cave door with 2:20 remaining and slides through, but in the corner of the room lurks the first TEMPLE GUARD!
?Woah! Temple Guard!? Kirk remarks. ?That startled him, but he?s got a Pendant!? Tony hands the Pendant over after a little trouble, and the guard goes away with 2:11 on the clock.  Tony then looks up and jumps up, reaching for the stalactites on the ceiling and pulling them down.  He starts with the one in front of the ladder, opening both doors leading out of the room at the same time (2:06).  Tony then climbs up into the Dragon?s Lair, but before he can get started on the room objective, out jumps the second TEMPLE GUARD!
?Oh! There?s another Temple? Go Felicia!? shouts Kirk; he sends Felicia into the Temple with 1:57 to go.  Felicia starts in the Arctic Antechamber and follows Tony?s path from there. ?Down into the Crevasse? Through the Mine Shaft? Up into the Ice Cave? She?s into the Dragon?s Lair! Minute one-thirty!? Felicia grabs the dragon horns from the front of the room one at a time and puts them in place in the dragon head hanging around the paper sheet that covers the ladder leading upwards.  When the fourth horn is in place, the mystic pattern on the walls lights up violet and a roar is heard, but no doors open (1:09).  Felicia looks around, checking every door she can multiple times.  She even tries to hit the doors to see if they might open.
?That?s a dead end! She gotta back down and into the Room of the Secret Shafts!? With 45 seconds remaining, Felicia finally climbs back down into the Crystal Cave and crawls into the Junction of the Secret Shafts.  She goes across the room and tries both crawl tubes before going into the Switch Inferno by way of the one further from the foreground (0:27).
?She?s into the Switch Room! She gonna go up or bust through the wall?? asks Kirk.  Felicia looks around, then walks across the room, pushes her way through the wall and immediately heads for the Pharaoh?s Secret Passage once in the Dungeon.  She uses the ladder near the left wall to get onto the platform where the mouth of the Passage is, and gets on the slide with thirteen seconds left. ?She?s on the Pharaoh?s Slide now!? Felicia starts to make the climb. ?Oh? I think she?s gonna run out!? Felicia gets up the Pharaoh?s Secret Passage, hits the actuator to open the door at the top and enters the Geographer?s Study? but we?re out of time!
?Oh, time ran out on her!? Kirk remarks. ?She was just a few rooms away! They both did a great job, and they still get the skates, but we gotta get outta here.  Join us again next time for another great Legend of the Hidden Temple! Buh-bye!? Tony and Kirk wave to the camera.  Rooms such as the Bridge and the Geographer?s Study are shown as the credits roll.

Temple Run Summary
Episode 63px]

Name of Artifact: The Keys to Anne of Cleves's Palace
Season: 2
Layout: 4 (8 overall)
Result: Failed acquisition
Time Remaining: N/A
Team: Red Jaguars
Pendants Won: 2
Location of Artifact: The Bridge

Well, the legend of the day was fairly entertaining.  I got reminders of the original series throughout (the first Temple Game was just like the second one in "The Missing Portrait of Hans Holbein" and I'll be damned if Felicia wasn't related or at least influenced in terms of hairstyle by Sabrina of "Blackbeard's Treasure Map").

I'll bet you noticed Tony tried the direct path for an artifact only two rooms into the Temple.  Obviously Season 2 contestants should've known better, but his backup plan was to scale the central shaft and then go out to the Bridge.  However, that path also proved to be too short to work, as Tony was taken out in the Dragon's Lair and Felicia got caught up in the dead end by trying to complete the objective.  She desperately tried prying open the doors in the room to no avail; eventually she backed down and slowly made her way to the Geographer's Study (she tried no shortcuts to get into the Shrine), where time ran out.  This wasn't a good run at all.

Trivia and Records:
The Keys were the only artifact located on the Bridge, and the same artifact used as the Keys to the Alhambra some fourteen years earlier.  This episode also featured the first Rediscovery legend to include sound effects.
