Legends: Rebirth-The Marble Shard of the Mausoleum

Episode 52: The Marble Shard of the Mausoleum

The camera winds and twists its way through a thick jungle of strange and exotic plants. After a few wrong turns, it finally stops in front of an ancient Mayan temple. At the base of the temple, a giant stone head sits. Suddenly, a torch on either side of the head begins burning. The head’s eyes light up, and it begins to speak:

Legends of the Hidden Temple: Rebirth!” These words appear on the screen. “With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is now!”

A middle-aged man wearing a denim shirt and blue jeans rides in on an ATV. He dismounts the vehicle and runs up the Steps of Knowledge, microphone in hand.

“Thank you! Thank you very much! Nice to see everyone! Nice to see you, Olmec! Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple: Rebirth. The rooms are filled with lost treasures protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards. Only Olmec knows the legends behind each of these all-new treasures in his temple…which one are we gonna hear about today?”

“The legend of the Marble Shard of the Mausoleum,” Olmec replies.

“Aha, the Marble Shard of the Mausoleum,” Kirk replies. “Well, the legend is set, and one of these teams will have a chance to retrieve the Marble Shard—will it be:

“The Red Jaguars?” The camera zooms in on each team as they are introduced.
“The Blue Barracudas?
“The Green Monkeys?
“The Orange Iguanas?
“The Purple Parrots?
“Or the Silver Snakes?

“They’ll have to pass some tough physical and mental tests, but in the end, only one team will earn the right to enter Olmec’s Temple. But first, they have to cross the Moat, and Olmec will tell them how they’ll have to do that today…”

Olmec begins to explain the Moat Crossing:
“Before you hangs a row of ancient suspended rings. When Kirk gives the signal, one player from each team will reach up and grab the first ring, then swing out to the next one and grab onto it with their other hand, on their way across. Once you reach the other side, it’s your partner’s turn to cross in the same way. If you fall, you must go back and start again. Once both players are safely across, run over and hit the gong.” Kirk hits the Silver Snakes’ gong to demonstrate. “The first four teams to hit their gongs will go on to the next round!”

“Okay, then let’s get started,” Kirk says. “Hey teams, are you ready?”
All six teams scream and cheer in response.
“Olmec, are you ready?” asks Kirk.
“OOOOOHHH yeah,” Olmec replies.
“Ha, ha—all right,” laughs Kirk. “On your mark, get set…GO!”

All six teams’ first members reach up and grab their first ring. The Blue Barracudas’ boy takes an early lead, with the Green Monkeys’ boy close behind him. The Purple Parrots’ girl falls into the Moat, but everyone else hangs on for dear life as they swing from ring to ring. The Blue Barracudas’ boy makes it to the fourth ring first, and the Green Monkeys’ boy is right behind him. The Orange Iguanas’ boy slips off the fourth ring the second he touches it, but the rest of the teams appear to be doing just fine. The Purple Parrots’ girl swings out to her second ring as the Blue Barracudas’ boy steps onto the deck, followed by the Green Monkeys’ boy about five seconds later. The Red Jaguars’ girl is next across, about ten seconds later, right before the Orange Iguanas’ boy falls into the Moat on his second try at crossing. The Silver Snakes’ boy has made it across now as the Purple Parrots’ girl falls in for a second time. The Green Monkeys’ girl is blazing across, having already made it to her fourth ring, and the Red Jaguars’ boy is only about a ring’s worth of crossing behind her. The Blue Barracudas’ girl is now halfway across as the Orange Iguanas’ boy holds on, determined to hang on for dear life. The Silver Snakes’ girl is only to her second ring, but appears to be hanging on just fine. About ten seconds later, the Green Monkeys’ girl makes it across, and she hits her team’s gong. “Green Monkeys are across—oh, Blue Barracudas across, too!” Kirk narrates as the Blue Barracudas hit their gong soon after the Green Monkeys. The Orange Iguanas’ boy has made it to his fifth ring as the Red Jaguars’ boy steps onto the deck, clocking in as the third team. “Red Jaguars are over—we need one more team!” Kirk comments. The Purple Parrots’ girl seems to be stuck on the fourth ring as the Orange Iguanas’ boy finally makes it across. About five seconds later, though, the Silver Snakes’ girl staggers onto the deck, almost hitting her gong with her chin. She hits the gong (not with her chin, thankfully) to end the Moat Crossing.

“Whoa, that’s it!” says Kirk as he runs over to stand beside the Silver Snakes. “Four teams, right here—Silver Snakes just took it slow and easy, and that paid off, ‘cause they’re goin’ on to the Steps of Knowledge…along with the Green Monkeys…” Kirk pauses between each team’s name to allow for applause. “…and the Blue Barracudas…and the Red Jaguars! The Orange Iguanas and Purple Parrots did great, but didn’t quite make it. That’s okay—we’ve got a great gift for ‘em for trying, and here’s what it is!” They receive a $50 gift certificate from Old Navy.

Legends: Rebirth-The Marble Shard of the Mausoleum
« Reply #1 on: December 15, 2010, 12:51:58 PM »
Kirk and the remaining four teams are now standing atop the Steps of Knowledge. “As the quest continues, it’s now time for Olmec to tell us about this Marble Shard of the Mausoleum. But teams, pay attention to the legend, because your knowledge of it will bring you a step closer to Olmec’s Temple…”

Olmec begins to tell the story:
“One of the greatest structures ever built was the great Mausoleum, or tomb, of Maussollos. Completed in 350 BC, the Mausoleum was the final resting place of Maussollos, the ruler of the Persian Empire. In life, Maussollos was a great leader, helping the Persians win many wars against the Greeks, and expanding the empire by conquering many nearby Greek islands. Legend has it that when he died in 353 BC, his wife Artemisia was heartbroken, but she vowed to honor Maussollos in a way no one had been honored before.
“‘Summon the best artists in Greece,’ she ordered her messengers. ‘I’ll build my sweetheart a tomb so grand, they’ll be talking about him a thousand years from now!’
“And she did just that. Erected on a high hill for all to see, the completed tomb stood 135 feet high, was supported by thirty-six marble columns, and enclosed a huge courtyard. In the center of the courtyard stood a huge stone structure in which Maussollos’ body was kept. A stairway flanked by stone lions led to the top, and stone warriors mounted on horseback guarded the tomb. On the roof, there stood a bronze statue of Maussollos and Artemisia in a horse-drawn chariot.
“The Mausoleum of Maussollos stood for over 1600 years, until the year 1404, when an earthquake sent the marble columns and the bronze statue crashing to the ground. Eventually, only the base of the Mausoleum remained, but pieces of it were used to build other buildings. One piece of marble from the Mausoleum has found its way to the Temple. Your quest is to find the Marble Shard of the Mausoleum and bring it back here.”

“Thank you, Olmec,” says Kirk. “So tell us, where is the Marble Shard?”

“The Marble Shard of the Mausoleum can be found in the SHRIIIINE of the Silver Monkey,” Olmec replies. The camera zooms in on a small white chunk of rock that looks like a piece of a column, positioned on the left-hand shelf of the room before fading back to Kirk.

“Whoa,” Kirk laughs. “Teams, you’re now standing on The Steps of Knowledge. In a moment, Olmec’s gonna ask you a question. If you think you know the answer, I want you to stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you. If you’re right, you’ll be able to move down to the next level, but if you’re wrong or you run out of time, the other teams will get a chance to answer.” Kirk begins descending the Steps. “The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec’s Temple. Olmec, we’re now ready for your first question.”

Olmec begins:
“Was Maussollos the ruler of: the Persian Empire, the Ottoman Empire, or—”
The Silver Snakes ring in. “Persian Empire…?”
“That…is correct,” Olmec replies. The Silver Snakes proceed to the second step.
“Step down, Silver Snakes,” Kirk instructs. “Next question.”

“Did Maussollos win wars against: the Spanish, the Greeks, or the Romans?”
The Blue Barracudas ring in as the third answer is being given. “The Greeks?”
“That is correct,” Olmec responds. The Blue Barracudas proceed to the second step.
“Blue Barracudas step down now,” says Kirk. “Next question, please.”

“Was Maussollos’ wife named: Athena, Artemisia, or Aurora?”
After a few seconds, the Green Monkeys ring in. “Ar…Arte-me-see-a?”
“That is correct,” says Olmec. The Green Monkeys join the Blue Barracudas and Silver Snakes on the second step.
“Now the Green Monkeys step down,” remarks Kirk. “This is getting exciting…next question, Olmec.”

“Did Artemisia build Maussollos: a statue, a tomb, or—”
The Green Monkeys ring in. “A tomb!”
“That is correct,” Olmec replies. The Green Monkeys step down to the penultimate step.
“Green Monkeys are one step away from the Temple Games now,” says Kirk. “Still time for our other teams, though…next question.”

“Is another word for tomb: Menorah, Mausoleum, or Messiah?”
The Red Jaguars ring in. “Mausoleum…?”
“That is correct,” Olmec replies. The Red Jaguars proceed to the second step.
“Red Jaguars are in it now,” says Kirk. “Anything can happen now…next question.”

“How many marble columns supported the Mausoleum: five, thirty-six, or one hundred?”
The Red Jaguars ring in. “A hundred?”
“Incorrect,” Olmec replies.
The Blue Barracudas ring in. “Thirty-six…?”
“That is correct,” Olmec says. The Blue Barracudas join the Green Monkeys on the next-to-last step.
“Blue Barracudas are one step away now,” says Kirk. “Still time for the others, though…next question, please.”

“What feature graced the roof of the Mausoleum: a golden throne, a silver stallion, or a bronze chariot?”
After a few seconds, the Red Jaguars ring in. “A bronze chariot…?”
“That is correct,” Olmec assures. The Red Jaguars become the third team to descend to the next-to-last step.
“Whoa, the Red Jaguars are one step away now,” Kirk observes. “Still time for the Silver Snakes to come back—next question, Olmec.”

“What caused the Mausoleum’s columns to crumble: a thunderstorm, an earthquake, or a f—”
The Silver Snakes ring in. “An earthquake.”
“That is correct,” Olmec booms. The Silver Snakes step to the penultimate level, meaning…
“We’ve got a four-way tie on the bottom step!” Kirk exclaims. “Next correct response will be going to the Temple Games. Olmec, next question.”

“In what year did the earthquake hit the Mausoleum: 1303, 1404, or 1505?”
The Green Monkeys ring in. “1404…?”
“That…is correct!” Olmec replies, and the Green Monkeys leap down to the bottom and high-ten one another.
“Green Monkeys are goin’ on to the Temple Games!” Kirk exclaims. “We need one more team, and the next correct response will be our second team for the Temple Games. Olmec, if you please…”

“According to our legend, what part of the Mausoleum is the Marble Shard from: the base, the roof, or a column?”
The Blue Barracudas ring in. “Uh, a…column.”
“…That is correct!” Olmec booms, and the Blue Barracudas join the Green Monkeys on the bottom step.

“That’s it—we have our two teams right here!” Kirk says as he runs over and stands between them. “They are the Green Monkeys, and the Blue Barracudas! Nice job, you two! Silver Snakes and Red Jaguars, come down here…you guys did great, too; it was close on up to the end. You’re not goin’ home empty-handed—we’ve got a great gift for ‘em, and here’s what it is!” They receive a package of Nickelodeon-related games for the Nintendo DS Lite.

Kirk is now seen standing between the two advancing teams. “These two teams will be playing for the right to enter Olmec’s Temple, and they’re gonna do it right after this!”

The camera pans in on the Temple and zooms in on a pair of fake snakes on top of a pile of rubble next to the Moat. The title appears onscreen, and we go to a commercial.

Legends: Rebirth-The Marble Shard of the Mausoleum
« Reply #2 on: December 15, 2010, 12:57:11 PM »
We return from the break to find Kirk standing in front of the Temple with the two remaining teams.

“Welcome back to Legends: Rebirth,” he says. “Now, the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest, but first, let’s get to know our players a little better…”

Kirk turns first to the Blue Barracudas, who are made up of a lanky boy with dirty-blond hair and bright blue eyes and a slightly shorter brown-eyed girl with long, nappy black hair.
“On the Blue Barracudas, we have Naomi. How old are you, Naomi?”
“Thirteen,” she replies.
“And it says here you enjoy basketball, but you also like to study ancient cultures…tell me a little about that.”
“Um, I really like to study, like…about how people lived on different continents a long time ago, before explorers got there,” Naomi explains. “I’m really into, like, African and Asian culture…”
“Ah, all right,” says Kirk before turning to Naomi’s partner. “And over here, we have Nick. How old are you, Nick?”
“Fourteen,” he replies.
“And…you enjoy baseball and football, and it says you also want to come—become a professional wrestler…why in the world is that?”
“Well, I’ve been watchin’ it with my dad since I was…about six or seven,” he says. “It seems like a cool job, and…I’m pretty fit, so I think that I…could have a chance.”
“Who’s your favorite wrestler?” asks Kirk.
“Triple H,” replies Nick.
“Well, you’ll have to show us some wrestling in these Temple Games,” remarks Kirk. “Let’s hear it for the Blue Barracudas!” Nick and Naomi applaud along with the audience.

Kirk now turns to the Green Monkeys, who are made up of a tall boy with short black hair and hazel eyes and a slightly shorter girl with blue eyes and very short platinum-blonde hair.
“And over on the Green Monkeys, we have Caitlyn. How old are you, Caitlyn?”
“Fourteen,” she replies.
“And it says here you like to swim, and you want to travel around the world someday…tell me a little about that.”
“Well, I’ve always wanted to…like, go to other countries and see how people outside America live,” Caitlyn explains. “I, uh, watch the Travel Channel a lot, and I think I’d like to do that…for a living.”
“Any particular place you want to go more than the others?” asks Kirk.
“I’d really like to go to Ireland,” says Caitlyn. “It’s really pretty there, I hear…”
“All right, sounds interesting,” says Kirk as he turns to the boy. “And over here is her partner, Trevor. How old are you?”
“Fourteen,” Trevor responds.
“And you told us you play basketball and soccer…which one do you like better?”
“Mmm…probably soccer,” replies Trevor. “It’s more hands-on, I guess.”
“What position do you play?” asks Kirk.
“Normally sweeper,” says Trevor.
“How about the goalie…have you ever been goalie?” asks Kirk.
“Uh…a couple of times, but I don’t like it ‘cause I got hit in the face once,” says Trevor, laughing and pointing to his face.
“Well, let’s hope that doesn’t happen in these Temple Games today,” says Kirk. “Let’s hear it for the Green Monkeys!” Trevor and Caitlyn applaud along with the audience.

“All right, is everybody ready to play?” Kirk asks the teams.

“Yeah!” they reply.

“All right—go get ready for the Temple Games,” Kirk instructs, and the teams’ members do so. “Now, in the Temple Games, our teams are going to be trying to win…” Kirk retrieves a Pendant of Life from his pouch and holds it up to the camera. “…these Pendants of Life. The winning team will need Pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded Temple Guards as they make their way through Olmec’s Temple. There are three Temple Games, and Olmec will tell us about Temple Game #1…”

The black lights under Olmec come on as he begins to explain the first Temple Game:
“When he ruled over the Persian Empire, Maussollos and his army constantly had to fend off attacking Greek forces. In this game, though, you’ll have to take down only four. Before you stands an army of Greek soldiers. When Kirk gives the signal, load your slingshot and shoot a ball at one of the soldiers. Then load your slingshot and do it again. The first player to knock down all four soldiers, or…the player that knocks over the most soldiers at the end of thirty seconds…wins.”

“Looks like an all-out war,” says Kirk. “Put sixty—thirty seconds on the clock!” The clock slams down in the bottom right-hand corner with a loud gong sound effect. “All right—ready, aim, FIRE!”

Caitlyn and Naomi both aim a little high with their first ball, and the balls go flying into the Temple. Caitlyn knocks over her right-middle target with her next shot, and Naomi knocks over her left-middle one. With fifteen seconds left, Naomi knocks down her right-middle target, and Caitlyn’s ball flies through the same spot where her right-middle target once stood. With ten seconds left, Caitlyn ties it up by knocking down her left-middle target, but that’s all anyone gets before the game ends.

“All right, that’s it!” says Kirk as he runs back onscreen. “Come down here, you guys…that was close, but let’s see how we both did.” He glances back at the teams’ playing fields. “It looks like the Green Monkeys knocked down two, and…the Blue Barracudas also knocked down two, so both teams get a half Pendant of Life!” He pauses to allow the audience to applaud. “It’s tied up now, but that can change very quickly, because this next game’s also worth a half Pendant. Olmec, tell us about Temple Game #2…”

Olmec begins:
“Maussollos conquered many islands in the Mediterranean Sea during his wars with the Greeks. In this game, you’ll be trying to locate Maussollos as he conquers these islands. Before you stands a map of Greek islands. When Kirk gives the signal, insert your peg into one of the holes on the map. If you’ve successfully located Maussollos, nothing will happen; otherwise, you’ll be squirted with water. The player who successfully locates Maussollos more times in thirty seconds…wins.”

“Time to start locating the ships,” says Kirk. “Let’s put thirty seconds on the clock, please!” The clock slams down in the corner with the usual sound effect. “Make your first choice right now,” says Kirk, and the boys insert their pegs in the board before them. “On your mark, get set, SQUIRT!”

Both boys get squirted on their first try, but Trevor manages to successfully find the right hole on the second go. Trevor finds several more correct holes as the game progresses, but Nick’s strategy of sticking with the same hole every time appears to be biting him in the backside—he’s squirted six times in a row before finally making the right choice. Nick makes one more correct location before time expires, but Trevor is noticeably drier than him by the time the game ends.

“Okay, that’s it!” shouts Kirk as he runs back onscreen. “These guys are soaking-wet now, but it’s over now, and the Blue Barracudas found Maussollos twice. But the Green Monkeys found Maussollos five times, so the Green Monkeys get the half Pendant of Life!” The audience applauds briefly. “So now, the Green Monkeys have one Pendant to the Blue Barracudas’ half Pendant. Now, we go to the third and final Temple Game. It’s worth a full Pendant of Life—Olmec, tell us about it, please…”

Olmec begins to explain the final Temple Game:
“To construct the Mausoleum, Maussollos’ wife Artemisia had to have workers clear away many tons of boulders and rubble first. In this game, you’ll be helping them out. When Kirk gives the signal, one player from each team will grab a boulder and toss it over their head. Then, their partner will catch the boulder as it rolls down and place it in their team’s bin. The team who collects the most boulders at the end of sixty seconds…wins.”

“This is for the Temple,” says Kirk. “Let’s get sixty seconds on the clock, please!” The clock slams down in the corner, ready to go. “On your mark, get set, GO!”

Both guys are pretty accurate in hitting the chute with their colored boulders, but the girls have a little trouble catching the boulders as they roll down. But eventually, Caitlyn manages to get the hang of it a little better, catching the first two boulders in the game. Naomi catches her first one with 39 seconds left. Caitlyn misses a boulder, allowing Naomi to tie up the game with 32 seconds left. Neither girl misses another boulder until about nine seconds are left, when Naomi fails to pull her cord out far enough to catch the one that Nick rolls down to her. This allows the Green Monkeys to pull slightly ahead just in the nick of time before the clock winds down.

“That’s it!” exclaims Kirk as he runs back onscreen. “Stop throwing the rocks—somebody could get hurt! Great job by both teams…let’s see how they did.” Kirk kneels beside the Blue Barracudas’ bin first. “Blue Barracudas got one, two, three, four, five boulders. And the Green Monkeys got…one, two, three, four, five, six boulders! The Green Monkeys get the full Pendant of Life…that means the Green Monkeys have two Pendants; the Blue Barracudas have a half Pendant…so the Green Monkeys are goin’ to the Temple!” Trevor and Caitlyn applaud excitedly from their fixed positions. “Blue Barracudas, you guys were great, too,” Kirk remarks as he walks over and stands beside them. “You guys aren’t goin’ home empty-handed by a long shot. We’ve got a great gift for you, and here’s what it is!” They receive a custom-made Legends of the Hidden Temple: Rebirth watch.

As the prize disappears off-screen, Kirk is now seen standing between the now-freed Trevor and Caitlyn with his hands on Trevor’s shoulder. “Now we’ll see if these guys can make it through Olmec’s Temple and retrieve the Marble Shard of the Mausoleum, right after this!”

The camera pans in on the Temple and zooms in on the Marble Shard in the Shrine before the title appears onscreen, and we fade to a commercial.

Legends: Rebirth-The Marble Shard of the Mausoleum
« Reply #3 on: December 15, 2010, 01:00:35 PM »
We return from the break to find Kirk standing in front of the Temple with the winning team.

“Welcome back to Legends: Rebirth,” he says. “Trevor and Caitlyn have proven themselves worthy, and have earned the right to enter Olmec’s Temple. But first, Olmec will give them information to help them retrieve the Marble Shard of the Mausoleum…”

Olmec begins to explain the Temple layout as the camera gives us a first-person walkthrough of the Temple:
“You could start…by running up the stairs to the Crypt! Grab the book from the skeletons, and pass into the Bottomless Pit! Swing across the gap, and climb into the Great Seal Room. Place the correct seal in the central holder, and a door may open into the Candelabra Room. Light the correct candelabra, and pass into the Room…of the Mystical Keys! Reach into the compartments to find the two correct keys, and open the door to the SHRIIIIINE of the Silver Monkey! Assemble the statue and you may be headed toward the Lightning Ball Room. Connect the power cords to create your own lightning, which will blast open the door to the Pharaoh’s Secret Passage. Slide down the tunnel to the Dungeon, where you could smash through the wall into the Dark Forest—but beware of the Temple Guards that may inhabit the trees! Find the key in the tree, and you’ll enter…the Snake Pit! Place the snakes in the hollow stump, and you’ll gain entry to the Tomb of the Headless Kings. Pull the vine to release the bones, and attach the missing skull to its proper king, then…race through the Pit, climb through the Ledges, rrrrrrace down the stairs and back through the Temple Gate. The choices are yours and yours alone!” Olmec pauses. “You won 2 Pendants in the Temple Games. Who’s going first?”

“I am,” says Trevor, raising his hand.

“Very well, Trevor,” Olmec replies. “When Kirk gives the signal, you’ll race through the Gate into the Temple and make your way toward the Marble Shard of the Mausoleum. Hidden inside the Temple are Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on, but…if you’re caught without a Pendant, you’ll be taken out of the Temple, and it’ll be Caitlyn’s turn to enter and try her luck. If you can reach the Marble Shard, all the doors of the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish. Return through the Gates with the Marble Shard in three minutes, and you’ll both be handsomely rewarded…and here’s how!”

• Just for making it this far, they’ll get a digital camera.
• If they can grab the Marble Shard within three minutes, they’ll also receive a Nintendo Wii, complete with three new games.
• And if they can bring the Marble Shard out of the Temple before three minutes expires, they’ll win a trip to St. Thomas.

“All right, sounds great,” says Kirk. “Let’s see if they can win all that. Caitlyn, what kind of plans do you guys have to reach the…Marble Shard?”

“Um…we’re just gonna take the low road, and try to reach it,” explains Caitlyn.

“Okay, going low…let’s see if that pays off,” says Kirk. “Put your mouthpieces in, both of you…let’s set the clock for three minutes, please!” The clock slams down in the bottom corner, ready to go.

“Olmec, if you please, lower the gate.” Olmec moans gutturally as the gate is lowered, and the black lights and torches under him go out.

“Ready, Trevor?” Kirk asks.

“Yeah,” he says.

“On your mark,” begins Kirk, “get set, GO!”

“There he goes, up into the Temple!” Kirk narrates as Trevor takes off up the stairs. Trevor slides down into the Ledges, where he begins making his way through the rocky room. He finds the actuator on the lower crawl tube, which opens the door to the Bottomless Pit, so he progresses onward (2:47). “Okay, into the Pit—the Bottomless Pit!” Kirk narrates as Trevor enters the room and begins trudging through the plastic balls there. “This guy plays soccer, so he knows all about being fast!” Trevor hits the actuator for the Tomb of the Headless Kings, and the door flies open (2:39). He heads into the room, but waiting for him is the first TEMPLE GUARD (2:35). “Whoa, Temple Guard!” Kirk exclaims as Trevor reaches for his Pendant. “He’s got a Pendant, so he can keep going!” Trevor hands over his Pendant before the Temple Guard disappears behind one of the secret doors. Trevor heads to the rope in the middle of the room, and pulls down on it twice before the bones fall from the rafters. He has to look around for a few seconds, but he soon finds the skull and grabs it. He places it on the stage-left king, but nothing happens. He takes the skull to the stage-right king, and when he jams it down, the skeleton’s torso begins glowing with a pulsating red light, opening the door up to the Candelabra Room (2:12). “Okay, he made the heart beat—now he has to go up!” Kirk narrates, and Trevor starts climbing the ladder up to the open door. He emerges in the Candelabra Room soon afterward (2:02), and heads to the back of the room, where he starts pushing in candelabras. The bottom left candelabra opens the doors to both the Room of the Mystical Keys and the Great Seal Room—and behind the door to the latter lurks the second TEMPLE GUARD (1:56).

“Whoa, Temple Guard! Go, Caitlyn!” Kirk shouts, and Caitlyn heads up the stairs. She slides down into the Ledges, following Trevor’s path exactly. “She wants to travel the world—let’s see if she can travel through the Temple and reach that Marble Shard!” Kirk says. Caitlyn makes her way up to the Candelabra Room where Trevor was taken out, and heads into the Room of the Mystical Keys from there. Unfortunately, the third TEMPLE GUARD is waiting for her there (1:27). “Oh, third Temple Guard!” Kirk shouts as Caitlyn screams loudly. “Give him your Pendant—he’s the last one!” Caitlyn reluctantly hands over her Pendant, and the Temple Guard heads out the door that Caitlyn came in. Caitlyn reaches into the compartments in search of keys, and comes out with two from the first two compartments she tries (1:15). She brings them to the front of the room and inserts them in the left and middle pedestal. Nothing happens, so she takes the one from the middle pedestal and places it in the right one; the door to the Snake Pit opens soon afterward (1:09). “Okay, she’s got it—did the door open?” Kirk asks. After looking to make sure the door to the Shrine didn’t open, Caitlyn begins climbing down to the Snake Pit. “Oh, no, she’s heading down—she’ll have to go around, I guess!” Kirk comments. Caitlyn immediately finds one of the stuffed snakes at the back of the room where she emerged, and looks around for a few more seconds before finding the second snake. She then brings them to the stump at the back, where she starts threading one of the snakes through a hole in the stump (0:55). “She’s only a few rooms away from it—she’s got plenty of time to reach it, too!” Kirk narrates. The camera now shows Trevor, clapping and cheering. When we cut back to Caitlyn, she’s trying to insert the other snake through the same hole in the stump. She soon figures out her mistake, and pulls out the snake before beginning to thread it through another hole. Once she has it about three-fourths of the way in, a hissing sound is heard throughout the room, and the door to the Dark Forest flies open (0:30). “Okay, that’s it—into the Dark Forest now!” Kirk narrates. Caitlyn climbs into the room, where she immediately heads to the wall and breaks it down, proceeding into the Dungeon (0:17). “Oh, she’s so close—will she make it?” Kirk asks rhetorically. Caitlyn heads over to the ladder at the right side of the room and begins climbing. When she reaches the top, she hits the actuator for the door that leads to the Shrine—and it opens (0:10). She scrambles into the room, where she finds the MARBLE SHARD, and grabs it (0:06). “Go, go—she’s got it!” Kirk shouts, as Caitlyn begins to head out of the Shrine. Unfortunately, she can only enter the Room of the Mystical Keys before time expires.

“No, she ran out of time!” laments Kirk as Trevor looks slightly disappointed. “She got the Shard in time, but she couldn’t get out with it. Well, that’s all right—at least they get the camera and the Wii because they reached it in time. Well, we’ve gotta get out of here—I don’t wanna, but we’ve gotta. We’ll see you next time, though, and remember…it’s not just Legends, it’s Legends: Rebirth! Buh-bye!”

Caitlyn emerges from the Temple as the credits begin to roll. She holds the Marble Shard up to Kirk, and Kirk takes it and pats her on the shoulder. A close-up of Trevor’s face is shown, and he’s nodding and saying something. Several shots of the set are seen, including a clump of Spanish moss hanging from one of the trees in the Dark Forest and the now-broken wall between the Dark Forest and Dungeon. Another close-up of Kirk and the Green Monkeys is seen, and they are chatting and laughing as the credits end, and the Stone Stanley logo appears onscreen.

Legends: Rebirth-The Marble Shard of the Mausoleum

The Marble Shard of the Mausoleum
Season 2, Layout 1
Artifact Location
: The Shrine of the Silver Monkey
Team: Green Monkeys (Trevor Sanchez & Caitlyn McGillicutty)
Pendants: 2
Result: Ran out of time (acquired artifact)

Even though it’s far from the best in the world, this episode was pretty exciting to watch—especially the Temple Run at the end. After a fairly quick “swinging rings” Moat Crossing and a very competitive Steps of Knowledge, the Green Monkeys (made of soccer player Trevor and would-be traveler Caitlyn) beat the Blue Barracudas 2-½ in the Temple Games, meaning they were Temple-bound.

Trevor was a fairly fast player, and he knew what he was doing. As his partner had suggested, he took the low road before a detour up to the Candelabra Room changed his plans, where he was taken out with just under two minutes left.

Caitlyn knew the Temple pretty well, even though she was just a little on the slow side. She was quick to find the right combination of keys in the Room of the Mystical Keys, and also completed the Snake Pit’s objective in respectable time. After smartly trying the Dungeon-Shrine door, she made it to the room and grabbed the Marble Shard with six seconds remaining. Needless to say, time ran out before she could make it out.

Sometimes, a convoluted layout is to blame for a team’s failure; sometimes it’s said team’s slowness or stupidity. In this case, it was a combination of the two—this team had to change levels in the Temple three different times before even reaching the artifact. Sometimes, intelligence and moderate speed just aren’t enough to make it out of the Temple, but at least this team walked away with the second-place prize.

Rating: 6.5 out of 10

Notes and Trivia: This is one of only three episodes of Season 2, Layout 2 that has no audience. It’s also one of only three times that a four-way tie occurs on the bottom step during the Steps of Knowledge.
