The Room of the Golden Idols. Hardly anyone ever "hugged an idol," as Kirk always suggested.
-
By far, the Spider's Lair. The webbing was completely useless.
The Dungeon was equally lame.
-
Lame was the dungeon. It's as if they forgot a budget to theme that room, so they just threw in a skeleton and called it a dungeon. Also, the Holes of Python room was simply a time-waster. In all other rooms, a skilled contestant could complete the objective significantly faster than an unskilled one; in the Holes of Python, however, that was not really the case. And seriously, what an odd name!

Hell, da dungeon was awesome so now I have to ban you! (no just kidding).
I always thought that the pit was useless. Season 1 had the troubled bridge and the wheel, and season 3 had the pendulum, so it makes since why they upgraded to the rock quarry, but hell I love those little green balls......please forget I said that. lol
-
Forgot my honorable mention. The Room of the Harmonic Convergence. How many times did a player step on every possible note combo, and still couldn't get the door to open?

That wasn't inherently a bad room; however, the poor... how should one say... physical components crucial to the correct functionality of the room ruined its potential value.
-
INCLUSION!
The Treasury of Golden Orbs. Sure, it made that room space so you HAD to complete the objective in it, but I still feel the Idols could have done the same. Someone probably broke it.
Furthermore, what was the point of three orbs? Just take one, put it on. If it doesn't work, take the orb off. Put it on the next one.
-
The Spider's Lair and The Room of the Golden Idols
-
Any of the 3 rooms to the right of the Shrine in season 1.
-
I'd say the Cave Of Size/ledges were pointless. Most episodes where a player entered through that room a temple guard would be there, (and would really mess up the temple run if the team was caught by 3 temple guards). Plus, by Seasons 2 and 3 that room was rarely used.

Oh, it was used in Seasons 2 and 3, but only to snatch away a team's hope of winning if they tried exiting through that room, which they often did.
-
I would say the Mine Shaft.
-

Oh that was quite evident in Season 2's "Broken Wing Of Icarus"
-
I personally thought most of the rooms from Season 1 where the only objective was to push an actuator were pointless and boring. Specifically The Heart Room, which just seemed like a waste of space. At least the Fallen Columns tried to add a challenge.
Also the Treasure Room, where the titular feature of the room was only employed once.
-
The Treasure Room is the worst room ever. It's pretty sad if the main feature of the room is only used once.
Also, the Room of the Golden Idols had a good concept.... but none of the kids ever completed it. They always just hit the buttons to pass through.... the production people should've inactivated the buttons so the kids would've had to complete the objective (which was pretty simple).
Also, i never liked The Heart Room or Medusa's Lair. The former was just an empty room and too many production errors in the latter.
-

I was just about to mention seeing that one tonight. I'm sitting there yelling "Move it, move it" as time runs out just before the player got out.
-
Yeah, if the frontrunner had just exited through the Crypt or if he hadn't taken that detour to the Observatory, he would have escaped with prolly 10 seconds to spare.
-
i hate the treasure and the heart room
-
Don't you mean "The Center of the Room"?
I agree with you, I hate most "hit the actuator" rooms. I always feel like many of the Season 1 winners would have been eaten alive by one of the later season temples.
-
the only reason for the season 1 runners stupidity is because its this new show they never heard of, plus if they would have had olmec tell them that extra stuff for the temple run like seasons 2+3 instead of kirk, they would've probably payed more attention
-
I personally think Season one is harder because the rooms are easier.
In certain rooms, the objective is obvious: Assemble the statue and the doors open.
In other rooms, the objective is simpler, but more complicated: Open the treasure chest, or hit the actuator of the door you want to open.
If they hit the wrong actuator, or if they miss one, they look around like idiots looking for the right door. But when something complicated is done, all the doors that can open will open, signifying where to go.
Ergo, harder rooms make for an easier temple.
-
I loved the fact about Temple that whenever you failed at anything, it would (and usually correctly) your fault. There were very few cheap losses in Temple.
-
No offense to Tomb of the Headless Kings fans, but it is my least favorite room. And WHO IS BENZIBAB?
-
None taken.
-
Ya know... i hate to say it, but i'm not much of a fan of The Tomb of the Headless Kings either. It's amazing how many dimwitted kids would just pull on the SAME vine for like 10 seconds. >.<
-
The season 2 swamp seemed to be a mere shadow of its former season 1 glory...
stupid poser swamp
-
Don't you mean "The Center of the Room"?
I agree with you, I hate most "hit the actuator" rooms. I always feel like many of the Season 1 winners would have been eaten alive by one of the later season temples.
Ah, my arch-enemy. And please, wake up and smell the cho-co-la-te`! First of all, I like the Room of the Golden Idols and Heart Room while I HATE the Tomb of the Headless Kings. And, Jammin' Jon, Leah and Mitchell would just cream a Season 3 layout. Don't underestimate them (especially Jammin' Jon).
-
I never said ALL of the Season 1 winners. There were a few standout contestants in there.
I would like the Golden Idols room more if they had taken out the door actuators and required contestants to complete the objective, "hugging an idol", as Kirk would say. And say what you want about the Tomb, I won't agree with you, and I'm still not changing my avatar or profile.
-
They could have been much more creative in many instances, I think.
On a separate note, the season 1 temple did look pretty cool.
-
The Tomb of the Anchient Kings is alright...but the objective is pretty simple...pull a key out of an empty coffin. Shouldn't there have been extra stuff in there or something?
-
The "coffin" doesn't really look like a coffin, either.
In an early episode Kirk called the Tomb of the Ancient Kings "the Sarcophagus Room". It would have been cooler if the key was actually hidden in a sarcophagus, which may or may not be hiding a temple guard as well.
-
When I first saw the room, I thought the Temple Guards were supposed to come out of the little coffin. Then I saw them come out of the door & was pissed.
-
Yes, if the temple guards hid in the coffin, the shock factor would have completely put the Dark Forest to shame. And imagine how much farther poor Nick would have jumped out...
-
I actually liked the Tomb of Ancient Kings idea, at least you need a key to go on instead of the right actuator. But the Room of Golden Idols seemed pointless since I've never seen anyone complete the objective to go down.
-

You know back when the show was on, I actually had dreams that there was a temple guard inside the coffin, but no. It was behind one of the doors...
-
I still liked it when they jumped out from behind the door. How many times was there a temple guard in that room though? There's only like 5 that I can remember: The Gordion Knot, The Keys to the Alhambra, The Blue Pearl, The Star of Sultan Saladin, and Henry VIII's Great Seal. Did I miss any?
And to stay on topic: The Room of the Golden Idols was the most pointless ever. The Treasury of Golden Orbs was actually a cool room. They should have implemented that more.
-
The Pirate's Cove was really stupid. It was basically the Torch Room without an elevator.
-
At least there was an objective that had to be completed either way in the Pirate's Cove.
-

Yes, but it should have been the same objective, spinning the wheel. To enter the Shrine the players still had to put the torch in the right holder (according to Kirk in "The Oracle Bowl of Delphi", anyway). That's why I hate the Pirate's Cove; they barely changed it at all from the Torch Room.
-

Yes, the Torch Room objective was in effect when entering from the Dungeon. It must have been extremely confusing for the players, though.
-
It was for me, too. The first time I saw The Oracle Bowl of Delphi I was just as confused as Jackie. But I still think it's better than most top-corner rooms cus at least you have to complete an objective before you can go down into the Dungeon.
-
No offense to anybody, but i really didn't like the Quicksand Bog
-
Golden Idols, any room with an elevator.
-
i thought the elevator/mine shaft was cool, but w/e
-
i thought the elevator/mine shaft was cool, but w/e
It ruined too many runs, if you ask me.
-
To me, the Rock Quarry and the Wheel room were my least favorite, as they eliminated the chance of going into the center room directly, taking away more opportunities to trick a contestant.
As far as rooms that shouldn't have even been rooms....the pharohs secret passage was pretty lame, it's just a slide for crying out loud.
The mine shaft if it had worked correctly (gone up and down without hitting a hitch) then it would've been cool, but that seemed to be where most of the bad luck temple runs occured. Same as the Harmonic Convergence room. Cool concept, key flaws (1 time door not opening when it should, other times seemed useless).
-

Especially the Purple Robe run.
I NEVER liked any Season 1 room to the right of the Shrine. They were ALL too DAMN EASY! Ditto for the Heart Room. And yes, it would've been cool if a guard popped out of the sarcophagus. As for Season 2, I LOVED the Dark Forest and the Throne Room (except for the Golden Stallion ep), HATED the Viper's nest for it's corny sound effects, and liked the rest of the temple. Now, for Season 3, my favorite season (exceept for the War Fan ep). I LOVED the Headless Kings room for that scream sound effect, The Ancient Warrior and Sacred Marker rooms for the way the guard could capture you at any time, and the Pharoah's secret passage cuz it cut the time going down. And I DIDN'T hate any season 3 room. (cuz they were all cool)
-
I always hated Medusa's lair...there were too many production problems...
Also not a huge fan of the Cave of Size. It just held everybody up!

On behalf of the Phantom's Temple community, I welcome you, Geektastic, to the forum!
I totally agree with you, by the way, as you can see in an earlier post here. It just took too much time and it was difficult to see what was wrong if it didn't work.
-
Thanks! I watched Legends back when I was VERY little...4 or 5 I think...it was always my favorite show, and I'm so glad I've found this forum now!
-
I hate the Treasure Room. All you had to do was hit a button if you didn't want to go down. Even so, everybody (including Kirk) got confused when they entered to room. It would have been a halfway decent room if you had to open the chest to activate the buttons, and if sometimes, there was a Temple Guard hiding in the chest.
-
I have to agree with you on the Treasure Room. That room was lame.
I also disliked Medusa's Lair as mentioned earlier. Even when they had the contestants put two snakes in Medusa's head, the room still took at least 30-40 seconds. This room had killed three-four different temple runs. (The Stone Head of the Evil King, The Mask of the Man in the Iron Mask, The Electrified Key of Benjamin Franklin, and The Lost Love Letter of John Smith come to mind.) The worst thing the crew did to the contestants is make Medusa's Lair a dead-end like in the Mask of the Man in the Iron Mask.
The Heart Room was also lame for having no objective.
The Well, the Dungeon, and the Mine Shaft were lame as well...especially the later two.
Finally, the Spider's Lair was a bad room to. It would be impossible for a contestant to try and climb up the webbing in the room.
-
I don't like the Cave of Sighs/Ledges, because it looked so hard to squeeze through. I'd hurt my back going through that room.
-
Any room in the center of the temple except the Room of the Mandarin Hand..it was pretty good. As well as the Room of the Fallen Columns, it had an objective that was reasonable.
The Heart Room--Pointless, just hit an actuator. I would actually preffered Medusa's Lair in the first season. And besides, with such an easy objective, people still had no idea what to do (take Kim for an example...)
Medusa's Lair--Way too time-consuming, and took away so many dreams of Legends contestants. Also, when I was young, the screams from the snakes being put in and the pink eyes and roar when the objective was completed made me really scared when I was young.
The Chamber of the Sacred Markers--Too time-consuming, finding markers and then matching them up, they could be anywhere on the walls, not to mention the scariness of a temple guard appearing in the door to the King's Storeroom.
More? OK, here we go....
The Room of the Golden Idols--No one hugged an idol anyway, so it was pretty pointless. They should have hugged an idol no matter what.
The Treasure Room--This is by far, the worst room ever in the whole show. It was basically a second Heart Room in the temple.
Any room in the top-left corner that had an elevator--There could be at least be an objective to open a door covering the elevator or something. Also, the elevator should have been faster!
Whoo.....I hate a lot of rooms.
-
i thought the elevator/mine shaft was cool, but w/e
It ruined too many runs, if you ask me.
Well, if not for the elevator, the first one-second win in LOTHT would have been like 30 episodes later. Consider that...
-
The Heart Room is ridiculously pointless. Also, the Room of the Golden Idols and the Pirate's Cove. Pirate's Cove was the same thing as the Torch Room.
-

Technically, you had to spin the ship's wheel in the Pirates' Cove to raise the slab allowing you to go below, but I think this objective was bypassed in one situation.
-
Without a doubt, any room where all you had to do was hit an actuator was pointless.

^^ What?! Ed, the person who wrote 120 episode summaries dosen't know that he's talking about Henry VII's Great Seal? Oh and welcome to the forums LOTHTFanatic!!!!

It's been a while; give me a break.
For perspective, the last new episode I watched that was new to me was The Mysterious Manuscript of Mary Shelley on November 3rd, 2004. I didn't watch too many episodes afterward.

Topic of pointless rooms, been a little while since I posted my thoughts on this....but.....off the top of my head....
That Treasure Box was terrible. Sure, the room may have had potential, theoretically, but damn, when you explain the objective, and it bearly makes sense to the viewer, much less the contestant, there's obviously a problem.
The idea of going downstairs via a treasure box doesn't really strike me as obvious.
-
The most pointless temple room is the Throne Room (S1). The fact that the contestants didn't actually have to sit on the throne ruined the room's value, IMO.
-

It's been a while; give me a break. :P I agree with the verdict that the Throne Room was pointless. It was just so cheesy! Go ahead and sit on this plastic seat which doesn't look like a throne at all to open the doors.
-
Any of the 3 rooms to the right of the Shrine in season 1.
That
I also foun the idea of the Jesters Court dumb
And
The Ledges
Seriously through the whole series it seemed that almost everyone ran up to which ever room was at the top. Not to mention they just slowed you down and didnt have a puzzle
-

Really? I only found that really evident in Season Three! Many Season Two episodes had contestants start off in the Ledges (or getting forced downwards into it occasionally)
-
I always thought The Spiders's Lair and Bamboo Forest were just too easy. Most contestants figured out that all you had to do was crawl under the webbing or poles.
-
How dare you insult my favorite room!

The reason I prefer The Bamboo Forest over the Spider's Lair because the latter was absolutely no challenge at all. The webbing was useless - it couldn't slow contestants down, and you couldn't climb it either, as proved by Billy. IMO, it's not like the elastic jungle from Basic Training on GUTS because the bamboo rods aren't flexible and you can't go all the way under them. Unless you meant between the rods, in which case, that was the objective. lol
But yeah... The Spider's Lair was probably the worst room in that area.

I gotta agree with you that the Spider's Lair was pretty bad. The stringing in that room was very thin, and was hard to climb. It was also one of those "clustered" rooms of season one I didn't like.
The only room that I could say that is worst than the Spider's Lair was the Treacherous Holes, because that room really did slow down players. I could understand how some teams that went through that room would lose because it was just too hard.
The Bamboo Forest was at least easy to navigate to the upper level. It was just useless though since it was used in five episodes. What were they thinking? :?
-
Yes, the Bamboo Forest is such a waste of space. Rarely any contestant went to the top and the door opened to the Treasure or Golden Orb rooms, both are a waste as well. At least The Jesters Court had a good purpose.
-
The Bamboo Forest is NOT a waste of space. A waste of space = The Heart Room/The Treasure Room.
I do agree with the Spider's Lair though... I mean, what for put in webbing that doesn't do anything. And I agree with Toltendo, the definately should have used that vertical passage between the Swamp area and the King's Storeroom area more often than they did. It seemed like they only showed it some love in S2L5, and then it got removed...
-
The Heart Room was the worst room ever!
But then, those occupying the swamp area except the Jester's Court are useless.
And who wants to sit on a plastic seat.
Medusa's Lair was so time-consuming. I mean, would the Applewood Amulet and the Lucky Medallion have been a win with 4 snakes? No!
-

Yeah, I can't stand the Heart Room at all. It literally was an empty room. And I hate how some of the contestants get lost in that room also. At least the Fallen Columns tried to provide a challenge, but then again, that room was useless.
-
Maybe that's the problem. The contestants were probably expecting something harder, I suppose...
-
I didn't like the Treasure Room much. When you think about it, it was basically a second Heart Room.
After watching some of the old season 1 episodes again, I think I have changed my perspective on the most pointless room in the temple.
I agree that the Treasure Room is definitely the most pointless room in the temple. Its basically the Heart Room with an actuator disguised as a treasure chest. Its sad that this room was used for five different layouts on the show, and was used successfully only one time.
Even when the contestants did try to use the chest, it would never allow them go down anyways. Also, the chest was only useful for the contestants that were traveling towards the Shrine route for an artifact. If the contestants were traveling towards the Observatory/Heart Room, there was no point in opening the chest.
Sorry for the year old bump. I have been wandering this board lately and this thread interested me after rewatching some old episodes.
-
How about an honorable mention for The Lightning Ball Room? I don't think I ever saw anyone do that room's objective as a little kid, but I saw it was used a couple times on Youtube. All you do is plug in four cords into the lightning ball's base to enter The Shrine of the Silver Monkey. Pretty pointless room if you ask me.
-

Still, it's better than just hitting a simple button...
-
True, but I felt like saying The Lightning Ball Room since no one has mentioned it yet. I will say that the true pointless room has to be a tie between The Heart Room and The Room of the Golden Idols. For The Heart Room, all you do is hit a button and hope it takes you to a new room. As for The Room of the Golden Idols, I think only one time a player ever hugged an idol (and that was a winning episode; can't think of it on the top of my head). The Torch Room and Pirate Cove were pointless too.
-
Well, I still stand by the Treasure Room being the most pointless, but the only reason I think it's more pointless than the Heart Room is because the Heart Room was already there for most of the season— why have an equally simple room next to it? The Season 1 Observatories and Throne Room were just as bad, though, by virtue of the fact that their "objectives" required no skill, no chance and no time consumption.
On the other hand, I'd say rooms like the Room of Golden Idols, the Treasury of Golden Orbs and just about every room below them fall under "wasted potential." They weren't inherently bad concepts (except for the Spider's Lair, of course), but because of the paths that were designed, the actual objective was barely ever used for the Room of Golden Idols, and we barely got to see how hard it could be to navigate up through the Swamp or whatever. Rooms like the Treasury and the Bamboo Forest were better concepts for offering more of a challenge, in my opinion, but apparently they were too good to last, meaning the Holes of Python was probably the only well-designed, well-thought-out and (close-to-)well-used room in that entire pillar in Season 1. :(
I usually discount the pit rooms because they tend to involve either a critical choice of paths, some form of navigation (at least the wall climbing required a bit of skill) or an actual objective, but it's a shame the Troubled Bridge didn't have some sort of hindrance like the bottom half of the room. It's not enough to make me really write off the divided pits as bad rooms, per se, but it does bug me a little in hindsight...
-
As for The Room of the Golden Idols, I think only one time a player ever hugged an idol (and that was a winning episode; can't think of it on the top of my head).
I believe it was, "John Sutter and the Map to the Lost Gold Mine."
EDIT: Fixed quote.
