Title: Spelling Revelation
Post by: nicklegends on July 01, 2009, 06:00:06 PM
It's Apanuugpak. Seriously. No wonder it took so long to figure out.

Here (http://http://books.google.com/books?id=erhrp9-RHiYC&pg=PA128&lpg=PA128)'s a pretty convincing source.

Whoa, Apanuugpak? Thats waaaay off from how we spelt it as "Apanupec." Although Olmec always used to pronounce it as "Ah-pah-nug-pek" so I can see how that would make sense.

What do you mean? Searching Apanuugpak (http://http://www.google.com/search?q=Apanuugpak) gets you hundreds of results; Apanugpak (http://http://www.google.com/search?q=Apanugpak) only gets you eight...

Well, the spellings we used here varied a lot from person to person, IIRC.  I even went from "Apanupec" (before I actually saw the episode) to "Apanupac," then "Apanupaq" and finally I settled on "Apanuupak." (I've also seen others use "Apanupack," just to give one example.)

I thought I heard Olmec pause before the P (like between the syllables of "uh-oh"), though; I didn't realize there was another consonant there, but the name was spelled "Apanukpak" in the Temple Run currently on YouTube (http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6NddVeOxXI), so I'd say he was really closest. xD

Still, good find.  Now, I need to see if I was right about it being "ibn-Zibab/bin-Zibab"...

LOLOL! We created a character with more search results than the actual figure. High five.

On a related note, Cosa Rara is two words (http://http://www.google.com/search?q=%22Ludwig+II%22+%22Cosa+Rara%22).

Whoa, I thought it was just one name, not two. Any other names we might miss?

*high fives*

And for the record.... Benzibab. (http://http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Benzibab&aq=f&oq=&aqi=) No this is not the actual spelling, but hah just look at the third result from that particular search. xD

lol

I've seen "Zibab" as a name, and "ibn/bin" means "son of" in Arabic.  That's why I went with "bin-Zibab" on the spelling, since the Queen of Sheba, Bilqis, also has an Arabic name herself.

I always thought that it was Benzibab, but after seeing TAW's reason in a different thread, I called him bin-Zibab.

Me too. It's weird how they got the names.

Hm... I've been searching for Benzibab for the last hour to no avail. The trouble is that there is practically no information on Solomon's bodyguards.

It's possible they just made up the name as a placeholder (bin-Zibab was supposedly Bilqis's bodyguard, though, but that's beside the point).

Still, good finds on the other ones! :D
