When the camera fades in from commercial, the show?s title card is placed over a shot of some jungle plants next to Olmec and the Cave. The pendant logo splits, the title fades into the distance and the camera segues to Kirk standing in front of the Lost Treasury with the two remaining teams.
?Welcome back to Legends!? he says. ?Now is the time where the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest, so let?s get to know our team players.? He turns to the left side of the screen to talk to the average-sized boy on the Orange Iguanas, with somewhat wispy brown hair and hazel eyes. ?On the Orange Iguanas, we have Bryan. How old are you??
?Thirteen,? answers Bryan.
?Now, I understand you wanna be an animator for a cartoon show,? Kirk reads off the index card in his hand. ?Tell me about that.?
?Well,? Bryan explains, ?I used to watch a lot of cartoons, I took a drawing class in school? I kinda liked it enough I? wanna see my own drawings on TV some day.?
?Ah, very nice,? Kirk comments before moving on to Bryan?s slightly-shorter partner, a freckled girl with blue eyes and straight, dirty-blond hair just past her shoulders. ?And your partner here is Lindsay. How old are you??
?Twelve,? she replies.
?And it says here you like music like Paramore and Garbage and you have four cats at home,? Kirk reads, ?but tell me about what happened in gymnastics.?
?Well, um,? answers Lindsay, ?I was trying something on the uneven bars, and I missed going from the lower one to the taller one? and I tried to put my hand out when I fell, but then I broke my arm.?
?Woah,? Kirk replies. ?Well, I?m glad you?re okay. This sounds like a tough Orange Iguanas team, so let?s hear it for ?em!? The audience applauds for a few seconds, and Kirk turns stage-right to talk with the boy on the Purple Parrots, a kid of average build with brown eyes and short dark brown hair concealed inside the helmet. ?And on the Purple Parrots, we have Dave. How old are you??
?Twelve,? he replies.
?And I understand you play basketball and soccer, but you want to be a trainer for the NBA,? Kirk says. ?Why?s that??
?Well,? explains Dave, ?my friends say I got good advice, and I really like sports and? but yeah, I could probably be better helping the players out than being a player myself.?
?Oh, well very nice,? replies Kirk, moving to the far-right region of the screen to talk to Dave?s partner, a tan-skinned girl with dark hair in a braided ponytail and dark brown eyes. ?And your partner here is Janine. How old are you, Janine??
?Twelve,? answers she.
?And I heard you?re on your school?s swim team, and you want to be an actress,? read Kirk. ?What kind of movies??
?Um? probably drama since I?m? great with emotion,? Janine tries to explain.
?Ah, nice,? Kirk says, moving back toward the center of the screen. ?This is a creative team, folks! Let?s hear it for the Purple Parrots!? The audience briefly applauds for the Purple Parrots.
?You guys ready to play?? asks Kirk.
?YEAH!? the players reply.
?Okay, why don?t you go get ready for the Temple Games,? Kirk says, pointing in different directions, and the players walk offscreen as Kirk faces the camera again, ?and I?m gonna tell you what?s gonna happen here. In the Temple Games, each team is competing for?" he opens a pouch and pulls out a small gold medallion to show to the camera? "Pendants of Life. The winning team will need those Pendants to protect them from the dreaded Temple Guards as they make their way through the Temple. There are three Temple Games, and Olmec? tell us about Temple Game #1.?
Olmec begins:
"When Elisabeth of Bavaria married Franz Joseph, she was crowned Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary, and her children became heirs to the throne. Hanging from the net above you are four crowns: one for Elisabeth and three for her children. When Kirk gives the signal, jump up and untie one of the crowns hanging from the net. Once it falls, come down and place it on one of the four heads at your feet. Then, jump back up and do it again.
"The first player to crown Elisabeth and all of her children? or the player that's further along at the end of 60 seconds? wins."
The camera segues to Kirk in front of the boys and the equipment for the game. "This is one way to crown a queen," he says. "Let's set the clock for 60 seconds." With a bang, a countdown clock appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen, and Kirk runs offscreen. "On your mark, get set, GO!"
Both Bryan and Dave have a little trouble jumping high enough at first, even with the bungee cords helping them. After a couple attempts, they make it up to the nets; it takes a bit of fiddling, but Bryan unties the first crown with 52 seconds to go, causing it to drop. He lands again and puts the crown on the first mannequin head with 48 seconds on the clock, while Dave is still trying to untie his first crown from the net. ?This is tough? they gotta jump high enough, then they gotta work fast to unknot the knots on those crowns so they can get them!? Dave finally gets the crown to drop and puts it on the first head for the Purple Parrots with 43 seconds remaining, then jumps back up. Bryan then gets the second crown for the Orange Iguanas at the :32 mark, while Dave fails to untie the second crown? he loses his grip on it and is lowered back to the ground to try again. However, Bryan fails to untie the third crown on his next attempt, keeping the Purple Parrots from falling too far behind.
?Orange Parrots having trouble! Purple Parrots can catch up!? Kirk declares as Dave gets to work untying the second crown with about 24 seconds to go. It finally falls to the ground with eighteen seconds left, and is placed on the second mannequin head moments later. With time ticking down, Bryan scores again for the Orange Iguanas; Dave tries, but fails to keep his grip on the crown before unfastening it from the net. Neither player scores again, and when the countdown clock hits zero, a pattern of ceiling spotlights flashes to indicate that time for this Temple Game has expired.
?All right, that?s it! Let?s check it out!? Kirk declares, running over to check out the scores. ?Looks like the Purple Parrots got two crowns, but the Orange Iguanas got three crowns! Orange Iguanas win a half Pendant of Life!? The audience briefly applauds as Kirk high-fives Bryan, then goes to talk with Dave. ?Purple Parrots can catch up in the next game, it?s worth a half Pendant. Olmec, tell us about Temple Game #2.?
Olmec continues:
"Elisabeth of Bavaria traveled through many countries, and visited sparkling lakes and lofty mountaintops? but like all travelers, she sometimes got lost. Scattered on the mountain before you are four maps of the area. When Kirk gives the signal, climb the mountain using the rope in your hands. When you reach a map, grab it and place it in your pack, then keep climbing. When you reach the top, turn around and climb down the other side."
"The first player to reach the ground on the other side of the mountain with all four maps? or the player that's further along after 60 seconds? wins."
The camera fades to Kirk. "They gotta climb mountains, collect maps? This is tough, but let's put 60 seconds on the clock." A countdown clock appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen, and an orange half-Pendant appears in the top-left corner as Kirk dashes off to the side to do the commentary from the side of the mountain. "On your marks, get set, GO!"
Lindsay and Janine start the ascent, and both move at a medium pace. In fact, both girls pack up their first maps with roughly 52 seconds to go. Lindsay puts her second map in her pack with 45 seconds on the clock; by now, Janine is trailing by a couple seconds, but also packs up her second map around the same time. However, she makes a bit of an effort to catch up, and as a result, the girls tie again when they get to their third maps: about 32 seconds remain.
?This is twofold!? Kirk remarks as the girls reach the summit and get to their final maps. ?You gotta climb, but you gotta stop and grab the maps, and it?s close!? Janine packs up her fourth and final map with 23 seconds to go, but Lindsay is not too far behind her; a mistake with trying to climb down holds her up for another second, however. ?They gotta turn around before they climb back down? Purple Parrots look like they got it!? As expected, Janine jumps down first, landing at the base of the mountain with fifteen seconds still available.
?That?s it!? announces Kirk; the countdown clock stops and disappears, along with the score display. ?Purple Parrots pulled ahead and stuck it out and got here first with all four maps! They get a half Pendant of Life!? The audience cheers, and Kirk high-fives Janine. ?So now it?s all tied up, a half Pendant apiece. This next game is worth a full Pendant. Olmec, tell us about Temple Game #3.?
Olmec narrates:
"Elisabeth of Bavaria made it through a number of locations, but legend has it she eventually returned home to Austria. Before you are a series of platforms that represent her journey. When Kirk gives the signal, choose a platform and step out onto it. If the platform sinks, it is an incorrect step? then run back and tag your partner. Then it's their turn to cross.
"The first team to get a player to Austria? or the player that's further along at the end of 60 seconds? wins."
The camera transitions to Kirk in front of the equipment. "This is for the Temple," he says. "Let's put 60 seconds on the clock." Kirk turns around and takes a couple steps to the side as the clock bangs down and stops in the bottom-right corner of the screen, while an orange half-Pendant appears in the upper-left corner and a purple half-Pendant in the upper right corner. "On your marks, get set, GO!"
The boys are the first players to try getting across, but both fall within seconds and return to the beginning. Janine, however, makes her way to the third step and makes a wrong choice for the fourth step (the middle of the three choices); Lindsay follows her to the third platform as Janine falls and starts over with 46 seconds to go. Lindsay, however, falls at :40 after taking five correct steps and has to start over; Dave ends up taking the lead over Bryan as a result. At the :30 mark, he makes it to the sixth correct step, putting the Purple Parrots in the lead.
?You gotta remember where to go, it?s a lot of communic? Purple Parrots have to go back!? Kirk says as Dave falls after incorrectly choosing the middle platform for his eighth step with 25 seconds on the clock. Lindsay falls only a few moments later, after making only four correct steps instead of five. ?Orange Iguanas really gotta hustle!? On the next attempt, Janine follows Bryan?s footsteps precisely. He takes her through six correct steps, but then steps on the platform furthest on the left in regards to the cameraman at the finish line, and has to start over with nine seconds remaining. Three seconds later, Janine makes an incorrect choice for the eighth step and has to go back. When time runs out and the ceiling spotlights flash to indicate the end of the game, Bryan is on the third step, Dave on the first.
?All right, that?s it!? Kirk announces, calling the team members over. ?Orange Iguanas, Purple Parrots! Let?s check it out!? The camera focuses in on the orange and purple flags used by the spotters to mark the teams? progress. ?Orange made it up to there? they made it seven steps, but the Purple Parrots made it eight! Purple Parrots get the full Pendant, that gives them a Pendant and a half, the Orange Iguanas had a half. The Purple Parrots are goin? to the Temple!? Janine squeals in excitement; she and Dave high-five while Kirk goes to talk with Bryan and Lindsay. ?Orange Iguanas gave it a great effort too, it was a tough match. We got a great gift for them for playing and here?s what it is.? Bryan and Lindsay will each be receiving a $100 U.S. Savings Bond provided by Skechers footwear.
The camera cuts away from the consolation prize, and Kirk is in front of the equipment for the third Temple Game with his hands on Dave and Janine?s shoulders. ?Now we?ll see if the Purple Parrots can make it through Olmec?s Temple and retrieve that Heart-Shaped Locket of Elisabeth of Vabaria,? he says, ?right after this!? The camera snakes around the Temple Game equipment and runs across to the foam block pit in the Pit of Despair; it zooms in on the foam blocks as the show?s logo reappears and the camera fades to commercial.
