LOTHT Wild Jungle Edition

Season 2, Layout 2, Episode 28

(The camera moves through a mass of thick palm trees, revealing portions of an ancient mayan temple as a waterfall and animals are heard. The jungle ends, and Olmec is revealed)

Olmec: Legends of the Hidden Temple!

(The camera shifts to the temple and its rooms as the pendant crashes together)

Olmec: With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is now!

(The pendant now splinters to reveal Kirk climbing out of the Jungle Crevice and running up the Steps of Knowledge)

Kirk: Thank you very much! Thank you! Nice to see you! Thank you, Olmec. Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple: Wild Jungle! The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards. Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple. Which one are we going to hear about today?

Olmec: The legend of the Stone Beard of Ramses the Second!

Kirk: Well, one of these six teams will have the chance to retrieve the stone beard! Will it be The Red Jaguars? The Blue Barracudas? The Green Monkeys? The Orange Iguanas? The Purple Parrots? Or the Silver Snakes? They're going to have to pass some tough mental and physical tests, and in the end, only one team will earn the right to enter Olmec's temple, but first they have to cross the moat, and Olmec will tell us how they have to do it today.

Olmec: Before you stands a broken icefield that has made its way into the moat. When Kirk gives the signal, hop onto the first floating block. If it stays, you can move on to the next block, but if it sinks, or you fall into the Moat, you must go back and start again. When you hop off onto the deck, it'll be your partner's turn to cross the same way. When both players have reached the other side, run over and hit the gong!

(Kirk hits the Silver Snake?s gong to demonstrate)

Olmec: The first four teams to hit their gongs will go on to the next round!

Kirk: OK, Olmec. Teams! Are you ready?

Teams: Yeeaaahhh!!!!

Kirk: Olmec, are you ready?

Olmec: It's time to rock out!

Kirk: I'll take that as a yes! On your marks, get set, GO!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: Alright! We have our four teams! Going on to the Steps of Knowledge are the Silver Snakes??and the Orange Iguanas and the Green Monkeys??and the Red Jaguars! Purple Parrots and Blue Barracudas gave it a great effort too. They will not be going away empty handed though, here's what we have for them:

(The Purple Parrots and the Blue Barracudas will each be receiving a prize package from Nestle)

Kirk: As we continue on our quest, it's now time for Olmec to tell us about the Missing Stone Beard of Ramesses the Second. But teams, pay close attention because your knowledge of the legend can bring you a step closer to the Temple.

Olmec: The most well-known Egyptian pharoah of them all was Ramesses the Second. He was sometimes called Ramesses the Great, because he was said to be the most powerful ruler to ever control Egypt. As a result, when he died, many stone structures of him were built. One such structure was the Staue of Ramesses at Mit Rahina, which is said to be over 3000 years old. It was found destroyed into many pieces in 1820, but was rebuilt and restored using some old pieces and some new ones. One of the pieces that was not used to restore it was the statue's massive stone beard, which later made its way to the temple! Your quest is to find the Missing Stone Beard of Ramesses the Second and bring it back here.

Kirk: Thank you, Olmec! So tell us, where is this stone beard?

Olmec: The Stone Beard can be found in the Treasury of the Monkeys.

(The camera shows the stone beard lying on the altar)

Kirk: Thanks, Olmec! Teams, you are now standing on the Steps of Knowledge. In a minute, Olmec will ask you a question. If you think you know the answer, I want you to stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you. If you're right, you'll move down to the next level. If you're wrong or run out of time, I'm going to give the other teams a chance to answer. The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec's Temple. Olmec, we are now ready for your first question.

1. Was Ramesses the Second also called...
Ramesses the Great
Ramesses the Terrible
Ramesses the Magical

2. Was Ramesses was a pharaoh in the times of...
Ancient Egypt
Modern Egypt
Colonial Egypt

3. Which of these Egyptain cities is known for its great pyramids?
Cairo
Giza
Memphis

4. Was Ramesses believed to be the pharaoh at the time of the...
Exodus
Elimination
Exposition

5. Which other African nation did Ramesses develop?
South Africa
Lesotho
Nubia

6. Was Ramesses' statue found destroyed in...
1720
1820
1920

7. Which of these pharaohs was the last to rule Egypt?
King Tut
Khufu
Ramesses the Second

Kirk: We've got our two teams who are going on to the Temple Games! They are the Red Jaguars.....and the Orange Iguanas! The Silver Snakes and Green Monkeys gave it a great effort too - it was anyone's game - and they're not going home empty handed. We got a great gift for both of them, and here it is.

(The Green Monkeys and the Silver Snakes will receive a $50 Target Gift Card)

Kirk: These two teams are going to be playing for the rights to enter Olmec's Temple, right after this!

(Pendant Splits)

Kirk: Welcome back to Legends! Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest. But before we get started, let's get to meet our teams. On the Red Jaguars, we have Kenneth and Joanne. Let's hear it for the Red Jaguars!

(Applause)

Kirk: And let's not forget about Asher and Jessica of the Orange Iguanas! Let's hear it for them!

(Applause)

Kirk: Whew! Why don't ya'll go get ready, and I'll explain what's gonna  happen here. In the temple games, teams are competing to win Pendants of Life. (Kirk holds up a pendant). The winning team will need those pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded temple guards as they make their way through the temple. There are three temple games, and Olmec will tell us about Temple Game #1.

Olmec: Peasants in Ancient Egypt needed to do hard work for the king every day - farming, and then giving the king their crops. When Kirk gives the signal, climb up on to the wheel and shift your weight so that it spins. Each full turn you make - clockwise - will count as one day of hard work. The player to work the most days at the end of sixty seconds wins!

Kirk: That's an interesting way to farm! Let?s put sixty seconds on the clock!

(Clock bangs down)

Kirk: On your marks, get set, GO!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: Okay! Let's come on over here, check out the score. The Red Jaguars worked for 12 days, the Orange Iguanas worked for 10 days - the Red Jaguars get the half pendant of life! Orange Iguanas, don't worry, you can catch up in the next game. Olmec, tell us about it.

Olmec: The only way to travel around Ancient Egypt was by camel, and the camels often got lost. To keep them on the right track, owners often pegged their noses to hook on a rope, which they would lead the camel around on. When Kirk gives the signal, climb up the camel?s backbone and to its head. Like any camel, this one spits?so hold on tight! When you reach the camel?s head, peg its nose and slide back down. The first player to peg the camel?s nose and lands both feet on the start line, or the team that?s further along at the end of sixty seconds?wins!

Kirk: Ho-ho! They gotta fight with one big spitting camel! Let's put sixty seconds on the clock!

(Clock bangs down)

Kirk: On your marks, get set, GO!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: Oi! Stop that spitting! Alright, the Orange Iguanas got all the way up to the camel's head and pegged its nose, and they got back first - they're gonna get the half pendant of life! So now it's a half pendant apiece, we go to the third and final game. Olmec, tell us about it.

Olmec: The pharaoh was paid taxes of crops and money. In this game, you're going to be taking the taxes to the king. When Kirk gives the signal, grab the bag of taxes, and your partner will boost you up the first step. Then you'll help your partner up, and do it again. The first team to deliver the bag of taxes wins.

Kirk: The king wants his taxes, so let's get him those taxes - get in position. Alright! On your marks, get set, GO!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: Whoa, the Red Jaguars blazed to the top, and they'll get the full-pendant of life! That gives them one and a half pendants, the Orange Iguanas had one...or one half! The Red Jaguars are going to the temple!

(Cheers)

Kirk: The Orange Iguanas gave it a great effort all the way, they?re not going away empty handed, we?ve got a great gift for them, and here?s what it is:

(The Silver Snakes will be going home with a savings bond from Sketchers Footware)

Kirk: Will the Red Jaguars retrieve the Stone Beard of Ramesses? We'll find out soon - right after this!

(Camera pans to the [rarely pictured] cliff by the Catfish Cove)

(Pendant joins)

(Pendant Splits)

Kirk: Welcome back to Legends! The Green Monkeys have proven themselves worthy, and now have earned the right to enter Olmec's Temple. But before we get started, Olmec's gonna give us some information on how to retrieve the Missing Beard of Ramesses the Second.

Olmec: You could start by running up into the Room of the Tropicana Birds. Press down the correct beak, and pass into the Jungle Crevice. There, swing across, and climb into the Mouth of the Jaguar. Place the four fangs into the mouth, and you might descend into the Anaconda's Sanctuary. Place the snake in the correct hole, and you could pass into the Vine Drop. There, you might climb down through the wall of plants, or pull the vines to enter the Shriiiiine...of the Siiiiilver Monkeeey! Assemble the statue, and you may be headed for the Catfish Cove, where you could race down the Falls into the Secret Spring. You might plow through the stone wall into the Abandoned Camp, and break open the cage to find the key! Next, climb into the Tropical Forest. If you escape, you will gain entry to the Treasury of the Monkeys, where you can grab the Beard - and find the right bunch of bananas to release the doors. Then, crawl through the Crevice, climb through the Mining Chamber, race down the stairs on back through the temple gates! The choices are yours and yours alone. You won one and a half pendants in the temple games. Who's going first?

Joanne: I am!

Olmec: Very well, Joanne! When Kirk gives the signal, you'll race through the gates into the temple, and make your way towards the Missing Stone Beard. Hidden inside the temple are temple guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. You can trade your pendant for an extra life and go on but if you're caught without a pendant, you'll be taken out of the temple...and it will be Kenneth's turn to enter and try his luck. Hidden somewhere in the temple is the other half of your pendant. If you can find it, and you?re carrying the other half, you will earn an extra life. If you can reach the block, all the doors of the temple will instantly unlock and the temple guards will vanish. Return through the gates with the Missing Stone Beard of Ramesses in three minutes, and you will both be handsomely rewarded?and here's how!

Dee: For just going into the temple, you'll each be getting a $1000 gift card from Target! Valid for use at any target around the world! From Target. If you grab the Stone Beard before three minutes is up, you'll also receive an iPod Classic! Store thousands of songs, videos, podcasts, photos, and more! From Apple. And if you bring the Missing Stone Beard out of the temple before three minutes is up, you'll be going to Cancun! You'll be staying at Kyrstal Cancun, the resort for beach lovers. With excursions to the Mayan ruins. It's rich in history and rich in pleasure! From Kyrstal Cancun.

Kirk: Cancun! Let's see if we can get them there Let's get into position! And let?s put three minutes on the clock!

(Clock bangs down)

Kirk: Olmec, please lower your gate.

(Olmec moans as the gate lowers, and the lights around him switch off as he stops humming)

Kirk: Okay, Joanne! On your marks, get set, GO!

(Joanne runs up into the Room of the Tropicana Birds and hits the beak of the bird stage-left of the temple guard door, and heads right down to the Jungle Crevice with 2:52 left. "She's making good time," comments Kirk, as Joanne jumps down towards the Treasury of the Monkeys)

(She hits the actuator - but the door is (obviously) locked. She has a tough time getting up to the ledge, but when she does, she hits the actuator to the Anaconda's Sanctury with 2:39 on the clock)

(Joanne quickly scrambles into the crawl space, and grabs the snake off the front pedestal. She sticks it into the first hole headfirst, but can't seem to get it in. "Turn the snake around!" says Kirk, and Joanne slides it in, when out pops a delayed TEMPLE GUARD! She screams three times, before handing him her pendant, and moving up to the Mouth of the Jaguar with 2:20 left)

(She heads up, and grabs the first two fangs. She places them in, but then changes her mind again to head down into the Anaconda's Sanctury. She notices the open door to the Vine Drop, and enters the room with 2:02 remaining)

(She pulls down on the vines one by one, trying to see if they will open a door. The third vine opens the door to the Shrine of the Silver Monkey, and she enters the room with 1:53 on the clock)

(Joanne stalls for a few seconds, but then regains her bearings and grabs the base of the monkey, placing it on the pedestal with 1:44 on the clock. She then takes the middle, and has a little trouble figuring out which way to put it. She has no problem with the head though, and slams it down with 1:20, opening all the room's doors)

(Joanne chooses to go to the Catfish Cove and hits the actuator down to the Falls with 1:13. The door swings open, almost knocking her down! She picks herself off the ground and dives headfirst into the mist)

(Suddenly, she reappears at the base of the Falls slide in the Secret Spring with 1:08. She falls into the wave of balls that almost covers her, but she punches her hand through the stone wall, breaking a hole in it. Joanne gets up with difficulty, and breaks down the whole wall with the rest of her body weight with 1:00 left, and enters the Abandoned Camp)

(Joanne searches around for the key in the front of the room, until she hears Kirk yell, "In the cage! In the cage!" She notices the key lying in the bottom, and tries to maneuver her hand into the bars of the wooden cage. Joanne realizes she can break it open, and she wedges her hand out to smash the cage open from the top)

(She grabs the key with about 50 seconds left, and hits it on the pads to the Tropical Forest. She starts to wade across the room, but as she hits the actuator to the door of the Treasury of the Monkeys, out pops the second TEMPLE GUARD, ending her part of the run with 37 seconds left)

(Kenneth quickly races up to the Room of the Tropicana Birds, and heads to the Jungle Crevice. He swings across, and heads up to the Mouth of the Jaguar, grabbing the two fangs that Joanne dropped on the ground. He places them in, and find the other two with 20 seconds left. He places the fangs in the mouth, but no doors open)

(He climbs down into the Anaconda's Sanctury, and crawls into the Vine Drop. Finally, he makes an attempt to climb down into the Tropical Forest - but we're out of time!)

Kirk: Awww, they didn't make it! They still get the gift cards though, and we gotta get out of here! Check us out next time for another great Legend of the Hidden Temple! Buh-bye!

(Credits scroll as the camera pans to the misty entrance to the Falls)

Artifact Name: The Missing Stone Beard of Ramesses II
Location: The Treasury of the Monkeys
Result: Ran out of Time
Time Remaining: N/A
Pendants Won: 1.5
Diagram:

Summary:

The Red Jaguars seemed like a pretty good team, but they had to deal with a fairly tough layout, and the players weren't the fastest either. Joanne was a little on the slow side, and she had a quite a bit of trouble climbing onto the ledge of the Jungle Crevice. She was only taken out in the Tropical Forest, her tenth room in the temple, and only about a half minute left.

Kenneth didn't make any significant progress, but instead unnecessarily completed the objective of the Mouth of the Jaguar (which was a dead end anyway). Pitiful Red Jaguars run.

Trivia

~This is the first episode that the in-depth player interviews are skipped, but the teams are still introduced individually
~The temple run was taped without an audience
~Right before the first commercial break, when the camera pans through the top level of the temple, we can just barely see the Chipped Limestone Block of the Great Pyramids in the Mouth of the Jaguar
