Episode 122: Goliath's Severed Head

(Camera moves through a thick jungle with animals popping out from either side and finally reveals King Olmec)

Olmec: Legends of the Hidden Temple!

(Title card forms)

Olmec: With your guide (and my good son), Zuma!

(Title card glows gold and fades)

Olmec: And here he is now with our original guide, Kirk Fogg!

(Kirk and Zuma swing on ropes into the outdoor theater where this reboot is set)

Kirk: Alright! Thank you! Thank you very much! Thank you, Olmec!

Zuma: Thank you, father!

Kirk: Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple! I’m OG guide Kirk Fogg.

Zuma: And I am King Olmec’s good son, Zuma.

Kirk: The rooms in the temple are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan temple guards. Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple.

Zuma: Which one will we hear about today, father?

Olmec: The legend of Goliath's severed head.

Kirk: Oh, the legend of the Goliath's severed head. Well the legend is set and one of these six teams will have a chance to retrieve the flute.

(CGI transitions of the team animals are shown when each team is called and each team name appears in front of the contestants when Kirk or Zuma do the roll call)

Kirk: Will it be the Red Jaguars?
Zuma: Do you think it will be the Blue Barracudas?
Kirk: Or how about the Green Monkeys?
Zuma: Could it be the Orange Iguanas?
Kirk: Maybe the Purple Parrots?
Zuma: Or will it be the Silver Snakes?

Zuma: They will have to pass some very tough physical and mental tests, and in the end, only one team will earn the right to run through my father’s temple.

Kirk: But first, they must cross the moat, and Olmec will tell them how they’ll do it today.

Olmec: Before each of you is a log raft with an ancient rope above it. When Kirk gives the signal, stand on the raft while pulling yourself to the other side. Once you are across, your partner will pull back the raft and do the same. When the second player is safely across, run over and hit the gong.

(Kirk and Zuma hit the Red Jaguars’ and Silver Snakes’ gongs)

Olmec: The first four teams to hit their gongs will go on to the next round!

Zuma: Are you ready, teams?

(Teams shout “Yesss!”)

Zuma: Can you say it better?

(Teams shout “YESSS!”)

Kirk: Are you ready, Olmec?

Olmec: This rock is ready to roll!

Kirk: On your marks, get set, go!

1. Blue Barracudas
2. Silver Snakes
3. Orange Iguanas
4. Purple Parrots

Kirk: We got our four teams right here! They are…

Kirk: …the Blue Barracudas,
Zuma: …the Orange Iguanas,
Kirk: …the Purple Parrots,
Zuma: …and the Silver Snakes!

Kirk: Red Jaguars and Green Monkeys, no one on Legends leaves empty-handed. We have a great consolation prize for both of you and here’s what it is.

(Zuma opens a chest with the first consolation prize plus $1,000 USD)

Kirk: As the quest continues, it’s now time for Olmec to tell us about Goliath's severed head. Pay attention teams, because your knowledge of the legend will bring you one step closer to Olmec's temple.

Olmec: One of the greatest Philistine warriors was Goliath of Gath, who was a giant among his comrades. For forty days in the Valley of Elah, he challenged the opposing army of the Israelites twice a day.

Goliath: Hear me, weaklings! I am the champion of my kind! The greatest of all Philistines! I demand that you bring forth the greatest of yours so that we may decide the outcome of this war with a single combat!

Olmec: But the Israelites feared his power, and Saul, king of Israel, couldn't find anyone brave enough to step up to him. But on the fortieth day, a challenger finally appeared.

Goliath: Is this a joke? I ask for a champion, but given a Sheppard's boy to fight with?

David: I am David, son of Jesse, and yes, I am your challenger!

Goliath: How can you possibly expect to vanquish me with only a staff and a mere sling?

David: Haven't you heard that great things come in small packages?

Goliath: If that is so, then I shall "unwrap" you, and see what's inside!

Olmec: With that, Goliath began his advance towards David, who armed his sling with a rock he found in a brook. With it, he took great aim, and the rock was flung at the giant, slamming him right in his cranium, causing the mighty Philistine to fall like a tree.

David: Now we'll see what your insides are like!

Olmec: David then used Goliath's own sword to decapitate his head, causing the shocked Philistines to run away in terror. The Israelites gave a victory celebration in David's honor afterwards, and years later, Goliath's head was brought to the temple. Your quest is to find the severed head, and bring it back here.

Zuma: Thank you, father. So please tell us, where is the severed head?

Olmec: Goliath's severed head can be found in the SHRIIIIIIINE of the Silver Monkey.

Kirk: Teams, you're now standing on the Steps of Knowledge. In a minute, Olmec will ask you a question. If you think you know the answer, stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you. If you're right, you'll move down to the next level. But if you're wrong or run out of time, I'll give the other teams a chance to answer. The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec's temple. Olmec, we're now ready for your first question.

Olmec: The Philistines occupied the southern coast of…Lebanon, Syria, or Canaan?

(Male Silver Snake rings in)

Zuma: Silver Snakes

Male Silver Snake: Canaan.

Olmec: That is correct.

Kirk: There you go! Step down!

(Silver Snakes move down a step)

Kirk: Next question, Olmec.

Olmec: Goliath was from the Philistine city-state of…Gath, Gaza, or Ekron?

(Male Blue Barracuda rings in)

Zuma: Blue Barracudas

Male Blue Barracuda: Gath.

Olmec: Thanks for listening carefully. That's correct!

Kirk: Step down!

(Blue Barracudas move down a step)

Kirk: Next question, Olmec.

Olmec: Which of these words best describes Goliath's height? Runty, common, or towering?

(Female Blue Barracuda rings in)

Zuma: Blue Barracudas

Female Blue Barracuda: Towering.

Olmec: That is correct.

Kirk: There you go! Step down!

(Blue Barracudas move down a step)

Kirk: One more correct response and you go to the temple games. Next question.
