Legends: Unearthed - The Old Plank of the Theatre
« on: August 25, 2013, 07:27:58 PM »
The camera moves past several tree branches and plants, unable to find a way out of the jungle with each turn. At last, it stops in front of an ancient Mayan temple with a stone head by its base. As it draws closer, the head's eyes glow red as it begins to speak:

“Legends of the Hidden Temple!” A panoramic view of the Temple is shown as the title appears on the screen. “With your guide, Kirk Fogg!” The camera shifts to the Chamber of Dry Waters, where we see Kirk sliding down the Pharaoh's Secret Passage. As he runs out of the Temple and towards the Steps of Knowledge, the stone head speaks again: “And here he is now!”

“Thank you! Thank you very much! Nice to see you! Nice to see you, Olmec. Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple. The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards. Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his Temple...which one are we gonna hear about today?”

“The legend of the Old Plank of the Theatre,” Olmec says in response.

“Ah, the Old Plank of the Theatre! Well, one of these teams will have a chance to retrieve the Old Plank. Will it be...the Red Jaguars?” The camera passes by each team as they're announced. “The Blue Barracudas? The Green Monkeys? The Orange Iguanas? The Purple Parrots? Or the Silver Snakes?”

“They're gonna have to pass some tough physical and mental tests, and in the end, only one team will earn the right to enter Olmec's Temple. But first, they must cross the Moat, and Olmec will tell us how they'll have to do it today.”

Olmec starts to explain the Moat Crossing: “Before you are small stones and a rope hanging in the middle. When Kirk gives the signal, the first player will walk across using the stones, bring the rope back to your side, and swing across. When you get to the other side, throw the rope back to your partner, who will then swing across. Players, remember! If you fall or use the stones to help you get across while swinging, you must start again. As soon as the second player has crossed, run over and hit the gong.” Kirk hits the Silver Snakes' gong to demonstrate. “The first four teams to hit their gongs will go on to the next round!”

“Okay, let's get started! Teams, are you ready?” The teams cheer once more as the first players get ready. “Olmec, are you ready?”

“Let's rock.”

“On your mark, get set, go!

All six teams rush to grab the rope, but the Red Jaguars' boy and the Green Monkeys' girl are the first ones to make it back with it, while the other teams fall into the water before making it. “Red Jaguars and Green Monkeys got the rope, but can they swing across?” Kirk asks as they proceed to answer his question: both of them make it across with no problem. At the same time, the remaining teams try to get the rope again, with the Silver Snakes' boy and the Purple Parrots' girl making it back to the dock first. The Orange Iguanas' boy barely stays on the stones as he grabs the rope, but the Blue Barracudas' boy falls into the water before he can make the grab.

“Blue Barracudas almost had it!” Kirk yells as the other three teams swing across, but only the Silver Snakes' boy makes it to the end. “Oh, Purple Parrots and Orange Iguanas – they have to go back!” As the Silver Snakes' boy throws his rope back, the Red Jaguars' girl and the Green Monkeys' boy swing across, with the Red Jaguars ringing in seconds before the Green Monkeys do. “We've got two teams! Just need two more!”

As the Blue Barracudas' boy succeeds in grabbing the rope, the Purple Parrots' girl swings again, followed by the Orange Iguanas' boy. Both of them make it to the other side, while the Blue Barracudas' boy follows moments later. “Ohh, it's gonna come down to who can get their partner across!” Kirk yells as the Silver Snakes' boy throws the rope for the second time, only for his partner to fail in grabbing it. The Purple Parrots' girl throws her rope back, and her partner is able to catch it. He swings across, allowing them to ring in.

“We need one more team!” The final three teams throw their ropes at about the same time. The Blue Barracudas' girl and the Silver Snakes' girl catch theirs, and swing to the other side. The Blue Barracudas' girl ends up falling into the water, while the Silver Snakes' girl makes it to the other side. Her partner helps her off, and they hit their gong.

“That's it! We've got our four teams!” Kirk yells as he runs over to the Silver Snakes. “These guys pulled through in the clutch! Going on to the Steps of Knowledge are the Silver Snakes!” He pauses to give each team a moment of applause. “And the Purple Parrots...and the Green Monkeys...and the Red Jaguars! Blue Barracudas and Orange Iguanas did a great job! They're not going away empty handed. We've got a great gift for them, and here's what it is.” They receive Super Monkey Ball for the Nintendo Gamecube.

When the prize disappears, we see Kirk and the remaining four teams walk towards the Steps of Knowledge. “As the quest continues, it's now time for Olmec to tell us about the Old Plank of the Theatre. But teams, pay attention, because your knowledge of the legend can bring you a step closer to the Temple...”

Olmec begins his tale: “One of the most successful Elizabethan playhouses was the Theatre. Built in 1576 by James Burbage, it opened in the fall of that year, serving as a venue for many acting troupes. In 1594, the Lord Chamberlain's Men performed there, led by James' son, Richard. They would perform until 1597, when Richard had a dispute with the landlord, Giles Allen.”
“'You know that lease your father had twenty years ago? It expired today.'”
“'Okay, no problem. I'll just get a new lease.'”
“'You really think I'm gonna give you a new lease? Forget it! I'm going to tear that playhouse down, and all that wood will finally be put to good use.'”
“The dispute forced the Lord Chamberlain's Men to perform in the Curtain, another playhouse that was close to the Theatre. Richard continued to negotiate with the landlord, but Giles would not budge. Near the end of 1598, Richard and his brother were growing desperate. One day, Richard's brother made a shocking discovery.”
“'Listen, Richard. There's a thing in the lease stating we can take the Theatre down ourselves.'”
“'Wait, does that mean...?'”
“'We can save the Theatre. But we're going to need a lot of people.'”
“On December 28, with the help of several workmen, the Theatre was dismantled piece by piece. When Spring arrived, it was moved over the Thames River and reconstructed as the Globe, but one piece, a wooden plank, was lost during the transfer. Eventually, it found its way to the Temple. Your quest is to find the Old Plank of the Theatre and bring it back here.”

“Thank you, Olmec,” says Kirk. “So tell us, where is this Old Plank?”

“The Old Plank of the Theatre can be found...in the Dark Forest.” The camera zooms in on the piece of wood, which is sitting on a platform in the back of the room.

“Teams, you're now standing on the Steps of Knowledge,” Kirk begins as he paces behind them. “In a minute, Olmec's gonna ask you a question. If you think you know the answer, I want you to stomp down on that ancient marking in front of you. If you're right, you'll move down to the next level, but if you're wrong or run out of time, I'm going to give the other teams a chance to answer.” He walks down the steps. “The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec's Temple. Alright, Olmec. We're ready for your first question.”

Olmec starts: “What year was the Theatre built? 1566, 1576, or – ”
The Purple Parrots cut him off. “1576!” the girl yells.
“That is correct.” The Purple Parrots step down.
“Alright, Purple Parrots are on the board! Next question, Olmec.”

“Which troupe performed in the Theatre in 1594? Leicester's Men, the Admiral's Men, or the Lord Chamberlain's Men?”
The Purple Parrots ring in again. “Lord Chamberlain's Men!”
“That is correct.” The Purple Parrots reach the next step.
“Just like that, the Purple Parrots are one step away from the Temple Games! But remember, we need two teams. Next question, Olmec.”

“Why wouldn't Giles Allen renew the lease on the Theatre? Did he...not receive money from the Burbage family, hate theatre, or thought the Burbage family didn't deserve it?”
The Silver Snakes ring in. “He hated theatre!” they both yell.
“That is correct.” The Silver Snakes step down.
“This game's starting to heat up! Next question.”

“What plan did Richard and his brother come up with to save the Theatre? Fighting Giles for it, tearing it down themselves, or – ”
The Green Monkeys ring in. “They, um...they negotiated with him?” the girl says.
“Incorrect.”
A few seconds later, the Red Jaguars ring in. “They tore it down themselves!” the boy yells.
“That is correct.” The Red Jaguars step down.
“Red Jaguars got it at the last second! Next question.”

“When the Theatre was rebuilt, what was it called? The Curtain, the Blackfriars, or the Globe?”
The Purple Parrots ring in. “The Curtain!” the girl yells, but immediately puts a hand to her face.
“Incorrect.”
The Red Jaguars ring in. “The Globe!” the boy yells.
“That is correct.” The Red Jaguars step down.
“A tie on the last step! This is getting close! Next question, Olmec!”

“Which of these playwrights was a member of the Lord Chamberlain's Men? Robert Greene, Jean Racine, or William Shakespeare?”
The Red Jaguars ring in right after Olmec finishes reading off the choices. “William Shakespeare!” the boy yells.
“That is correct.” The Red Jaguars leap down to the final step.
“We've got our first team going to the Temple Games! It's the Red Jaguars!” The two start cheering. “We've got room for one more team, who's it gonna be? The Silver Snakes, the Purple Parrots, or the Green Monkeys? Next question.”

“When King James took over England, he renamed the Lord Chamberlain's Men. Was their new name...the Queen's Men, the King's Men, or – ”
The Purple Parrots cut him off. “The King's Men?” the girl says.
“That is correct.” The Purple Parrots move to the last step.
“We've got our two teams!” Kirk yells as he joins them. “It's the Red Jaguars and the Purple Parrots!” He looks over to the other two teams and gestures them to come forward. “The Green Monkeys and the Silver Snakes did a great job! We've got a great gift for them, and here's what it is.” They receive a $50 gift card from Fashion Bug.

“These two teams will be playing to earn the right to enter Olmec's Temple, and they'll do it right after this!” The Purple Parrots' girl hugs her partner while the Red Jaguars high-five each other. As they continue, the camera shifts over to the Temple, showing the muck in the Murky Swamp as the title appears. After this, we shift to commercial.

When we return to commercial, we get a close-up of the stepping stones used in the Moat Crossing. After the title disappears, we cut to Kirk standing between the two teams.

“Welcome back to Legends,” he says. “Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest. But before we get started, let's find out more about our two teams, shall we? On the Red Jaguars, we have Paige. How old are you?”
“Twelve,” she says.
“And I heard you like to take pictures of animals.”
“Yeah, I really like taking pictures of them.”
“Okay, tell me about it.”
“Well, I'd take a picture of an animal doing something, but I have to stay still, or they would get scared and run away.”
“What's your favorite picture?”
“I like them all!” she says with a smile.
“And your partner, Joel. How old are you?”
“Fourteen,” he says.
“And it says you want to be an astronaut. Why's that?”
“I think space is cool, and I wanna see if there's anything else...out there, you know?”
“Would you like to visit other planets?”
“Definitely.”
“Let's hear it for the Red Jaguars!” Kirk yells as the audience cheers for the tall girl with green eyes and shoulder length brown hair and the short boy with blond hair and green eyes.

Kirk turns to look at the Purple Parrots. “Over on the Purple Parrots, we have Lynne, and how old are you?”
“Twelve,” she says.
“And it says here you practice ventriloquism.”
“I've been practicing for about a year.”
“How did you get into it?”
“I remember watching a show with a woman that made these puppets talk without moving her mouth, and it got me really interested in it.”
“And over here, we've got Clyde. How old are you?”
“Fourteen,” he says.
“And I heard you're a part of the school band.”
“Yeah, I play alto sax.”
“Tell me about that.”
“It's pretty cool, you get to walk around a lot and play music. There's a lot of crowds that cheer for you as you go by, and...and it feels really great.”
“Alright, let's hear it for the Purple Parrots!” The audience cheers for the tall girl with neck length black hair and brown eyes and the somewhat short boy with black hair, hazel eyes, and dark skin.

“Okay, you guys get ready for the Temple Games, and I'll tell everyone what's going to happen here.” As the kids leave, Kirk reaches into his pouch. “Now, in the Temple Games, teams are competing to win...” He stops as he pulls a Pendant of Life out of the pouch. “...these Pendants of Life. The winning team will need these to protect them from the dreaded Temple Guards as they make their way through the Temple. There are three Temple Games, and Olmec will tell us about Temple Game #1.”

Olmec begins to explain the first game. “Throughout 1576, James Burbage worked to complete the Theatre. Now, you must provide materials to help him construct it. Before you are the materials needed to complete the Theatre. When Kirk gives the signal, run forward and launch yourself at the wall, and climb up and grab an object. Then, climb down and put the item in your basket. The first player to gather all of the materials, or the player that's furthest along at the end of 60 seconds, wins.”

“Alright, they've got a Theatre to build!” Kirk yells. “Let's put 60 seconds on the clock! On your mark, get set, go!

Joel and Clyde start off evenly, but Joel gets caught in the netting while Clyde climbs up and grabs a piece with 52 seconds left. It takes him a bit to climb down, giving Joel time to catch up. By the time they reach the 40 second mark, both players have one piece in the basket. Clyde runs out before Joel makes it back to the starting point, giving him a bit of a lead. He grabs a piece with 29 seconds left, while Joel is desperately climbing to catch up. By the time he grabs a piece, Clyde is close to the starting point. At the 15 second mark, Clyde launches at the netting again, and grabs a piece eight seconds later while Joel gets on the netting at about the same time. Before time runs out, he puts the piece in the basket.

“Okay, let's check it out!” Kirk yells as the spotters bring the baskets together. “Let's check out the Purple Parrots first. They had...” He starts grabbing pieces and throwing them out. “...one, two, three pieces! The Red Jaguars had...one, two! The Purple Parrots get the half Pendant of Life!” Clyde offers to high-five Joel, which he accepts. “The Purple Parrots are ahead now, but the Red Jaguars can catch up. We go to the second Temple Game, it's worth a half Pendant. Olmec, tell us about it.”

Olmec continues: “Many acting troupes performed plays in the Theatre, but their successes depended on the actors practicing their lines. Before you are the Prologue and Acts 1 through 5 of a play. When Kirk gives the signal, crawl underneath, pop through a hole, and grab the part you find there. If it's the Prologue, run back and place it on the board. Otherwise, go on to the next hole and swap it for another act until you find the Prologue. Then, search for Act 1. The first player to get all six parts in order, or the player that's further along in 60 seconds, wins.”

“Practice makes perfect, trust me,” Kirk says. “Let's put 60 seconds on the clock! On your mark, get set, go!

Paige and Lynne crawl under the structure, with Paige popping out of the top left corner while Lynne comes out of the right hole in the second section. Paige grabs Act 1 and crawls under, while Lynne finds Act 5. With 51 seconds left, the girls pop out of two different holes. This time, Paige finds the Prologue, while Lynne finds Act 4. Paige scurries out of the structure and puts the Prologue on the board while Lynne continues searching. At the 39 second mark, Paige finds Act 1. Lynne, however, manages to find the Prologue a few seconds later. When the 20 second mark arrives, Paige and Lynne find their next parts and return them to the board. As time winds down, Paige finds Act 3 and gets it on the board just before time runs out.

“Alright, that's it! Let's check it out!” Kirk yells as he approaches the boards. “Hey, you can come out now,” he says with a chuckle before Lynne emerges from below the structure. “Let's see how much they practiced. The Purple Parrots got through the Prologue and Act 1, and the Red Jaguars got through the Prologue, Act 1, Act 2, and Act 3! That gives the Red Jaguars the half Pendant of Life!” Paige starts to cheer while Lynne claps. “It's all tied up now! The Red Jaguars and the Purple Parrots have a half Pendant apiece. It's time for the third and final Temple Game, it's worth a full Pendant. Olmec, tell us about it.”

Olmec explains the final game: “Taking the Theatre apart was hard enough, but carrying it piece by piece to its new home was just as challenging. Now you must help get those pieces across the Thames River. When Kirk gives the signal, place a piece of the Theatre between your feet, grab the trapeze, and meet your partner in the middle. When you meet, transfer the piece from one person to another, and swing back to place the piece in your basket. Then, swing out and start again. The team to complete the most transfers at the end of 60 seconds wins.”

“This is for the Temple!” Kirk yells. “Put 60 seconds on the clock! On your mark, get set, go!

At first, the teams start off strongly, with both of them getting a piece inside their baskets. However, at the 48 second mark, when both teams swing again, Clyde misses the piece and is unable to grab them with his feet. At the 43 second mark, the Red Jaguars are ahead 2-1 as the Purple Parrots swing again. Clyde and Joel grab theirs, but Joel misses getting the piece into the basket, tying the score up with 30 seconds left. The teams stay tied until the 12 second mark, when Lynne fails to transfer the piece over successfully, allowing the Red Jaguars to take the lead. As time runs down, both teams manage to score one more time.

“That's it!” Kirk yells as the spotters bring the baskets together. “Let's get them unhooked first, then we'll count it up.” The Red Jaguars and the Purple Parrots join him seconds later. “Alright, let's see. The Red Jaguars had...one, two, three, four, five pieces of the Theatre. Purple Parrots had...one, two, three, four pieces! The Red Jaguars get the full Pendant of Life!” Joel and Paige start celebrating, while Clyde claps. Lynne remains silent. “So that gives the Red Jaguars a Pendant and a half, the Purple Parrots had a half Pendant! That means the Red Jaguars are going to the Temple!” Joel and Paige start to celebrate, complete with Paige letting out a joyful scream. Kirk approaches Clyde and Lynne. “The Purple Parrots were a great team! I'd hate to say goodbye, but they won't be leaving empty-handed. We've got a great gift for them, and here's what it is.” They receive a pair of Hush Puppies.

When the prize disappears, we see Kirk standing between Joel and Paige. “We'll see if the Red Jaguars can make it through Olmec's Temple and retrieve the Old Plank of the Theatre right after this!” As he high-fives the two players, the camera zooms in on the Dark Forest, giving us brief glimpses of both trees' arms moving erratically before staying on the Old Plank. The title appears afterward, and we go to a commercial.

When we return from commercial, the camera's zoomed in on one of the chains in the Chamber of Dry Waters. It zooms out before the title disappears. We cut to Kirk and the Red Jaguars, who are now standing in front of the Temple.

“Welcome back to Legends,” he says. “Joel and Paige have proven themselves worthy and have earned the right to enter Olmec's Temple. But before they get started, Olmec's gonna give them some information to help them retrieve the Old Plank of the Theatre.”

Olmec begins his rundown, complete with a first-person walkthrough of the Temple: “You could start...by running up the stairs into the Crypt! Grab the book from the skeletons, and pass into the Overgrown Pit. Use the outcroppings to maneuver across, and climb into the Eclipsed Light Room. Focus the light on the black orb, and a door may open into the Heart Room. Turn the levers to awaken the sleeping heart, and pass into the Room...of the Ancient Warriors! Place yourself into the correct armor, and open the door to the SHRIIIINE of the Decayed Monkey. Assemble the statue, and you may be headed toward the Lightning Room. Connect the power cords to create your own lightning, and open the door to the Pharaoh's Secret Passage. Slide down the tunnel to the Chamber of Dry Waters, where you could pull the chains to unleash the waterfall, or smash through to the Dark Forest. But beware of the Temple Guards that may inhabit the trees! Find the key in the tree, and you'll enter the Murky Swamp. Traverse through the muck, and you'll gain entry to...the Lair of the Butterfly. Rip the wings off of the butterflies, then...pass through the pit, climb through the Moss Cavern, race down the stairs and back to the Temple Gate! The choices are yours and yours alone...” He briefly pauses. “You've won one and a half Pendants in the Temple Games. Who's going first?”

“I am!” Joel yells.

“Very well, Joel. When Kirk gives the signal, you'll race through the Gates into the Temple and make your way towards the Old Plank of the Theatre. Hidden inside the Temple are Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on, but! If you're caught without a Pendant, you'll be taken out of the Temple, and it'll be Paige's turn to enter and try her luck. Hidden somewhere in the Temple is the other half of your Pendant, Paige. If you find it, you'll gain an extra life. If you can reach the Old Plank, all the doors of the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish. Return through the gates with the Old Plank in three minutes, and you'll both be handsomely rewarded – and here's how!”

  • Just for getting into the Temple, they'll both receive an ETX-90 telescope from Meade.
  • If they can grab the Old Plank within three minutes, they'll also receive a DMC-LC20 camera from Panasonic.
  • If they bring the Old Plank out of the Temple before three minutes is up, they'll both be going to SeaWorld in San Diego, California.

“Alright, SeaWorld! Let's see if we can get the Red Jaguars there. Let's get ready, mouthpieces in. Olmec, lower your gate.” Olmec lets out a low groan as the gate descends. “Put three minutes on the clock! On your mark, get set, go!

Joel runs in, carrying the team's only full Pendant. He runs up to the Crypt, and pulls on the book to his right. The skeleton screams “LET GO!” as he pulls, prompting him to pull the one on his left after a moment of hesitation. This time, the door to the Overgrown Pit opens. “He's heading for the Overgrown Pit!” Kirk says as Joel enters the room with 2:47 left. “Let's hope he stays high; you don't wanna get caught in the vines below!” He starts heading across, but while on the middle outcropping, he decides to jump down. He crawls over toward the door leading to the Lair of the Butterfly, which opens as he hits the actuator. He enters the room with 2:37 left.

Upon entering the room, he immediately starts tearing up the butterflies, starting with the one in the stage-right display. Then, he goes for the butterflies in the other display case. When the last butterfly is destroyed, the statue lights up. He goes for the door leading to the Murky Swamp, but it isn't open. “Looks like he's gonna have to head up!” Kirk yells as Joel climbs the ladder with 2:23 left.

When he enters the Heart Room four seconds later, he has some difficulty figuring out what to do in the pitch black room. He goes over to the ladder and climbs up, then hits the ceiling as if there was an actuator there (2:13). “Go to the front and turn the levers!” Joel finally sees the levers and goes over to them, and starts turning them. After the third turn, the room lights up, opening the doors in the room. With 2:04 left, he the ladder, entering the Eclipsed Light Room five seconds later. He sees the light bouncing off the leftmost mirror and goes to adjust it. This objective doesn't take as long to complete, as the light hits the black orb with 1:51 to spare. The door to the Room of the Ancient Warriors opens, and he heads through the door. As he enters, he immediately tries the rightmost armor, but upon pushing down the levers, he's grabbed from behind by a Temple Guard!

“Oh, a Temple Guard! But that's okay, he can move on!” As the armor turns around, Joel hands over his Pendant and is released as the armor returns to its original position. He tries the middle armor, but that doesn't open the door. “Oh, it had to be the third one!” Joel tries the final armor, and this time, the door to the Shrine of the Decayed Monkey opens. He heads into the room with 1:32 left to go. He grabs the base and places it on the pedestal, but as he goes back for the torso, the second Temple Guard appears and grabs him!

“Another Temple Guard!” Kirk yells as Paige departs. “Go, Paige, go!” She goes through the Crypt as the clock reaches the 1:22 mark. She runs into the Overgrown Pit, jumps down, and goes into the Lair of the Butterfly, unaware that she passed up the half-Pendant on the actuator. “Ohh, she didn't grab the half-Pendant! She might regret that later!” She enters the Lair of the Butterfly with 1:12 left, and after attempting to open the door to the Murky Swamp, she heads up the ladder, leading her into the Heart Room with 1:01 remaining on the clock. She climbs up into the Eclipsed Light Room, then heads down into the Room of the Ancient Warriors. When she enters the room, she stops, as if she's hesitating to go any further. “Keep going, go!” Kirk yells while Joel ushers her to go on, making Paige enter the Shrine of the Decayed Monkey with 49 seconds left to go.

“She's just a few rooms away!” Paige first checks on the base, noticing that it's turned incorrectly. When it's on correctly, she goes after the torso. She fumbles with it momentarily, but manages to get it on with 30 seconds left. After taking a bit of time to grab the head, she jams it down, opening the door to the Lightning Room with 18 seconds left to go. She enters the room three seconds later, and gets to work on the objective. She plugs the wires in, one by one, until the lightning is unleashed. With only 4 seconds left as the doors open, she only has enough time to get past the door leading to the Pharaoh's Secret Passage before time expires.

“Ohh, she was just two rooms away!” Kirk says as Joel pushes his elbow pad back up. "But that's alright, these guys did a great job. They still get to keep the microscopes. We've gotta get outta here, join us for another great Legend of the Hidden Temple! Buh-bye!”

As the credits roll, Kirk and Joel talk to one another while the camera cuts to several parts of the Temple, including the missed half-Pendant and the completed Decayed Monkey on the pedestal. Eventually, Paige joins the others in front of the Temple, and the final shot is of the three of them talking.

The Old Plank of the Theatre

Layout: Season 1, Layout 1
Artifact Location: The Dark Forest
No. of Rooms Entered: 8
Team: Red Jaguars (Joel and Paige)
Number of Pendants: 1 1/2
Guard Locations: Room of the Ancient Warriors, The Shrine of the Decayed Monkey
Half-Pendant Location: The Overgrown Pit (missed)
Result: Out of Time!

Not much to say about this episode. The first two rounds were pretty average. One moment did stand out during the Steps of Knowledge, though: Lynne's face palm when she realized she gave the wrong answer. Now the Temple Games were interesting, and kind of reminded me of The Sacred Ring of Sultan Suleiman, where the first and last games had some continuity between them. Though the result wasn't the same here; The Red Jaguars made it to the Temple instead of the Purple Parrots.

Speaking of, the Temple Run was average. Both players made wrong turns that cost them, especially Joel. I won't get upset at him for getting confused in the Heart Room; I mean, it went from a simple "hit the actuator" room to something completely different. However, he should have tried going to the Room of the Ancient Warriors from the Heart Room instead. Paige wasn't much better. She took her time getting to where Joel was taken out, and didn't do so well in the Shrine. In fact, she only had 15 seconds left when she got to the Lightning Room because she took her time getting from the Shrine of the Decayed Monkey to the Lightning Room. If there's one thing you should never do in the Temple, it's take your sweet time. You only have three minutes, after all.

Notes:
 - That artifact was pretty big; I'd say it was about the size of that clunky helmet used in The Much-Heralded Helmet of Sir Gawain. Even if the Red Jaguars got to it in time, they would've had a hard time getting it out.
 - This marks the last appearance of the "Stepping Stone Swing" Moat Crossing, but the stones can be seen scattered outside the Temple after this episode.

First off, you do a really good job in writing these fanfics. ;) This sounds like an actual transcript for a real Legends episode. Also, interesting legend and idea for an artifact. Legends didn't feature many artifacts dedicated to actual places. Only a few historical places had artifacts associated with them - The Keys to the Alhambra, The Snow Cone of Mt. Kilimanjaro, The Shriveled Hand of Efoua, and The Pearl Necklace of Gwalior. So it is nice to see a legend about an actual place.

This temple layout looks exactly like the one in the Mummified Hand run had Maggie and Josh took the bottom floor. Was the last temple guard in the Quicksand Bog? If so, the Red Jaguars would've had another triple capture. I wish the show featured more huge artifacts too like the Much-Heralded Helmet and Smashed Printing Plate. And the Red Jaguar girl took over 30 seconds in the Shrine? I guess she was taking hints from Kim from "Charles Lindbergh". :P
