Legends of the Hidden Temple
Lost Season 4, Episode 3.
The Chart-Maps of Captain James Cook

(I've asked Olmec for use of this artifact idea - hopefully, when he comes back from his holiday, he'll say its OK.)

The camera makes its way through a forest. Eventually, it comes to a stone head. It's eyes light up, and it begins to speak...

OLMECpx]
Legends of the Hidden Temple. (Applause) With your guide, Kirk Fogg! (Kirk flies in from off-screen on a cable, flapping his arms like a bird. He lands, unhooks, and walks up the steps of knowledge). And here he is now.

KIRK:
(Stops at top of steps) Thank you! Thankyou, very much. Nice to see you! (Points towards crowd) Nice to see you, Olmec. Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple. The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are guarded by mysterious Mayan temple guards. Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple. Which one are we going to hear about today?

OLMEC:
The legend of the Chart-Maps of Captain James Cook.

KIRK:
Ohhh, The Chart-Maps of Captain James Cook! Well, one of these six teams will have the chance to retrieve the Chart-Maps. Will it be? (camera moves to other side of moat, panning as Kirk announces teams) The Red Jaguars? (hold for applause after each team) The Blue Barracudas? The Green Monkeys? The Orange Iguanas? The Purple Parrots? Or the Silver Snakes?

They?re going to have to pass some tough mental and physical tests, and in the end, only one team will have the right to enter Olmec?s temple, but first they have to cross the moat - and Olmec will tell us how they?ll have to do it today.

The Moat:

OLMEC:
Before you lies the ruins of an ancient bridge. An island still stands a third of the way out, but the bridge has collapsed due to the elements and time. When Kirk gives the signal, the first player will run out and jump to the island. Then, the second player can jump to the island. If either player falls in, you'll have to go back to the start. When both players are on the island, grab the wooden planks above you. Put them down on the gap between the island and the platform, and make your way across. When both players have made it, the 2nd person may run over and hit the gong. (Kirk hits gong.) The first four teams will move on to the next round.

KIRK:
All right, teams, are you ready? (kids cheer) Olmec, are you ready?

OLMEC:
Let's rock.

KIRK:
On your marks. Get set. GO!

(Event occurs)

Great work by the Silver Snakes, they got across very quickly and going through to the Steps of Knowledge are the Silver Snakes! (applause) And, the Purple Parrots! (applause) And, the Orange Iguanas! (applause) And the Green Monkeys! (applause) Red Jaguars and Blue Barracudas, you aren't going away empty-handed - we've got a nice gift for you, and here's what it is.

(Ad for shoes or something)

The Legend:
KIRK:
As the quest continues, it?s now time for Olmec to tell us about the Chart-Maps of Captain James Cook. But pay attention, because your knowledge of the legend can bring you a step closer to Olmec?s Temple.

OLMEC:
One of the great British explorers was Captain James Cook. Cook was born in North Yorkshire, now the town of Middlesbrough, in England in 1728. Cook worked at his fathers farm and a grocery store for most of his childhood, but soon became bored of such work and began to study algebra, trigonometry, navigation, and astronomy, skills he would need one day to command his own ship. After a few years as an apprentice working on merchant ships, Cook volunteered for service in the British Royal Navy in what would become the Seven Years' War.

During the war, Cook worked with General Wolfe as a cartographer, mapping much of the entrance to the Saint Lawrence River during the siege of Quebec City, allowing General Wolfe to make his famous stealth attack on the Plains of Abraham.

Cook's ship soon traveled to Newfoundland, where Cook would chart the coast. Cook was rewarded for his efforts by being allowed to take his own ship and crew on voyages, the first of which discovered Australia. When Cook travelled to Australia, he made maps of the coastline as well. But years later, after Cook was killed by island natives in Hawaii, the maps vanished.

The Chart-Maps have now made their way into the temple! Your quest is to find them and bring them back here.

KIRK:
Thank you, Olmec. Tell us, where are the Chart-Maps?

OLMEC:
The Chart-Maps can be found... in the Shriiiiiine of the Siiiilver Monkey.

The Steps of Knowledge:

KIRK:
OK, teams, you are now standing on the Steps of Knowledge. In a minute, Olmec will ask you a question. If you think you know the answer, stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you. If you?re right, you?ll move down to the next level. If you?re wrong or you run out of time, I?m going to give the other teams a chance to answer. The first two teams to make it to the bottom level (Kirk descends steps) will be one step closer to Olmec?s Temple. Olmec, we are now ready for your first question.

*SKIPPING, BECAUSE IT WILL TAKE TOO LONG TO WRITE UP THE WHOLE THING*

Congratulations to the Green Monkeys and the Purple Parrots! These teams are gonna be playing for the right to enter Olmec's temple, and they're gonna do it right after this!

Temple Games:

KIRK:
Welcome back to Legends. Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest. But before we get started, lets find out a little about our teams. (Talks to team members). Okay, go get ready for the temple games. Wondering whats happening? Teams are competing in temple games to win: Pendants of Life. They?re going to need those pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded temple guards as they make their way through the temple. There are three temple games. Olmec, tell us about temple game number one.

TEMPLE GAME 1:

OLMEC:
Before becoming a cartographer, Captain Cook needed to read books about lots of different subjects. Now, you're going to get some books as well! When Kirk gives the signal, go under the platform and come out of one of the holes. Grab the book that is there, and move to another hole. If you find a pair of books, take them and place them in your basket. If not, put the book back and move onto the next hole! The first player to collect all three pairs or the player thats further along in sixty seconds wins.

KIRK:
Alright, they're gonna go tunneling for books. Strange. Alright, let's put sixty seconds on the clock! On your marks, get set, go!

(Green Monkeys win)

TEMPLE GAME 2:

KIRK:
And the Green Monkeys get the half-pendant of life! (applause) Purple Parrots can catch up in the next game, Olmec, tell us about temple game number 2.

OLMEC:
When Captain Cook was on his ship, the bad weather and storms could make life very rough for him and his crew. Now, you're going to get a chance to feel what that is like! When Kirk gives the signal, the boat you're holding onto will start turning one way. It will change directions, many times, and all you need to do is hold on tight. The player that holds on the longest, or, the player that holds on for sixty seconds, wins.

KIRK:
Alright, this game is for another half-pendant. Let's put sixty seconds on the clock. On your marks. Get set. Go!

(Green Monkeys win)

TEMPLE GAME 3:

KIRK:
OK, this game is worth a full pendant - Purple Parrots, you can catch up here. Olmec, tell us about temple game number 3.

OLMEC:
Captain Cook helped out General Wolfe in the Siege of Quebec City. Now, you're going to participate in a siege as well! When Kirk gives the signal, place a boulder in your slingshot and fire at a ship. Then, your partner will get a shot. The first team to knock over all four ships, or, the team thats further along in sixty seconds, wins.

KIRK:
Alright, this game's for the temple. Let's put sixty seconds on the clock. On your marks. Get set. Go!

(Purple Parrots win)

KIRK:
Oh, tough game. The Purple Parrots knocked down 3 ships, while the Green Monkeys knocked down 2, that gives the Purple Parrots a full pendant of life, giving both team a pendant - we're going to a tiebreaker! Bring out the pedastal!

Alright, teams. Olmec's going to ask you one final question. If you think you know the answer, hit down on the gong. If you're right, you're going to get a chance to enter Olmec's temple and to retrieve the Chart-Maps. But if you're wrong, I'm going to give the other team a chance to answer. Olmec. Your final question.

OLMEC:
Who took over the voyage after Cook's death in Hawaii? Captain John Cook? Captain Charles Clerke? Capt-

KIRK:
Green Monkeys.

GREEN MONKEYS:
Captain Charles Clerke.

OLMEC:
That. Is. Correct.

KIRK:
It's right, and the Green Monkeys are going to the temple! (applause) Great work by the Purple Parrots, they're not going away empty-handed, and here's what they're getting.

(AD)
'
We're gonna see if the Green Monkeys can retrieve the Chart-Maps of Captain James Cook, and we're gonna do it right after this! (applause)

The Temple Run:

KIRK:
Welcome back to Legends. The Green Monkeys have proven themselves worthy and have earned themselves the right to enter Olmec?s temple. But before we get started, Olmec?s going to give them some information that is going to help them retrieve the Chart-Maps of Captain James Cook.

OLMEC:
You could start by running up the stairs to The Room of the Evil Clowns! Hit the correct nose, and you may be able to move into... the Pit of the Podium. Swing over to the podium, hit the actuators, and you might be able to move into... the King's Storeroom. Smash the clay pots to find the key, and maybe you can move into... the Chamber of the Sacred Markers! Match the markers on the right, to the holes on the left, and you could move into... the Treasure Room! Open the chest, and climb down, or move into... the Shriiiine of the Siiiiilver Monkey. Assemble the statue, and you may be able to enter... the Lightning Ball Room. Plug in the cords to create your own lightning, and slide down the Pharaoh's Secret Passage into... the Quicksand Bog! Smash through the wall, and move into... the Dark Forest. But beware the Temple Guards, that may inhabit the trees! Find the key in the tree, and move into the Swamp! Climb through, and move into... the Throne Room! Sit on the Throne, enter the Pit of the Podium, climb through the Ledges, race down the stairs and back through the temple gate. The choices are yours, and yours alone! You won one pendant in the temple games. Who's going first? (I am!) Very well, Max! When Kirk gives the signal, you?ll race through the gate into the temple and make your way towards the Chart-Maps of Captain James Cook. Hidden inside the temple are temple guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. You can trade your pendant for an extra life and go on, but if you?re caught without a pendant, you?ll be taken out of the temple and it will be Brittany?s turn to try her luck. If you reach the artifact, all the doors in the temple will instantly unlock, and the temple guards will vanish. Return through the gates with the mirror within three minutes, and you will both be handsomely rewarded. And here?s how: (prizes).

KIRK:
OK now, Let?s get you into position and see if we can get to the Bahamas! Mouthpieces in. Olmec, will you lower your gate please? (Wait for gate to lower). Put three minutes on the clock. On your mark. Get set. Go!

The Chart-Maps of Captain James Cook

Name of Artifactpx] Chart-Maps of Captain James Cook
Season: 4
Layout: 3
Result: Made it!
Time Remaining: 0:31
Team: Green Monkeys
Pendants Won: 1
Location of Artifact: The Shrine of the Silver Monkey
Temple Diagram:

Temple Run Summary:
One of the first truly great runs of the lost season of Legends. You could tell that Max knew from the word go what he needed to do - he must have watched the show before. He ran up into the Room of the Evil Clowns, hit two noses, and watched the Ledges door open. But, he knew not to go down there - he pressed the final one and ran into the Pit of the Podium. After opening the doors to the Kings Storeroom and the Chamber of the Sacred Markers, he chose to go up into the Kings Storeroom. It seemed to work for him. He then moved into the Treasure Room, where a temple guard was waiting, taking the Green Monkeys only pendant. No matter - he took the Treasure Chest down (one of only two people to have done this, I believe) into the Swamp, and then made his way into the Dark Forest. He blazed through the Forest, and smashed straight through the wall (watching on slow-motion, you could see a trees arms move just as he moved into the Quicksand Bog - so he dodged a temple spirit. Nice.) into the Quicksand Bog. He climbed up the ladder, hit the actuator, moved into the Shrine, got the Chart-Maps, ran across the top level and got out with 31 seconds remaining. He deserved his trip to the Bahamas.

Episode fanfic written by dshban. Episode summary format and Temple Diagram in the style of NickLegends. Artifact idea by Olmec.

I think it's a good fanfic, but I'm having trouble believing the final outcome. Eight rooms traversed, and they still manage to get out of the temple with 53 seconds left? It just seems a little incredulous.

I feel pretty much the same way, although it is certainly possible. I mean, just look at what Shane did in ''The Very Tall Turban of Ahmed Baba'' (http://www.geocities.com/nicklegends/episodelist/s2_l3_id11.html.) He got the artifact in his tenth room, and still left fifteen seconds to spare.

OK, maybe that's a bit much. I'll make it with about 30 seconds left.

I find it a little strange that I came up with the idea for the artifact & clearly stated I would want permission to use any of my ideas. I'm OK with this, because it was an awesome episode, but I'm still doing my version of "The Lost Chart-Maps of Captain James COok".

I did give you credit for the idea at the bottom of the Temple Run post, and I asked for permission in another thread, but you were away so I presumed it was OK with you. Sorry.  :D

I think I PM'd you... oh well.

Oh, sorry! I'm still getting used to the new color scheme here, but it's cool. I'll still do "my version" of it, but yeah... it rocked!!!!!
