I finally finished my review for "Silver Saddle Horn". It didn't take me as long as Golden Stallion, but it was definitely a boring and unremarkable episode. Despite the low score, I actually don't hate this episode. I just don't bother watching it since it was uneventful and forgettable. The temple run is kind of disappointing too since Vicky was fast.
THE SILVER SADDLE HORN OF HANNIBAL
MOAT: 1/10

This episode featured the longest recorded moat on the entire show. Not the longest moat that it took to complete (that goes to the Stone Head/Cracked Crown moat), but the longest one recorded for the audience. And it is very strange that this moat took a long time too because none of the other episodes from this production day had a long moat like this one. The moat itself was pretty bland and nothing special. The first player had to cross the moat by using their upper body strength to shimmy across the rope over their head. Once she reached the other side, they had to take another rope and tie it to a pole so their partner could use it to cross. The first four teams to cross this moat would go onto the Steps of Knowledge. Why did this moat take so long to complete? Because the first player on each team had trouble using the one rope to get to the other side. Since they didn't have a bottom rope to support their feet, they had to rely on their upper body strength to get them across. The second players job was pretty easy to get across. Overall, this was a very long and tedious moat to watch. You just couldn't wait until it was over!
LEGEND: 5.5/10
One of the greatest Army Generals to ever live lead 60,000 men and 38 elephants through Spain and France, and over the Alps into Italy. His name was Hannibal and he crushed the Romans in their worst defeat in history. Legend has it, the idea came to him in a dream. One day, Hannibal summoned his spiritual adviser, Mumbo, and said he dreamed he was floating above the ground on something gray with wings. While riding it, he crushed the city of Rome. He asked Mumbo what he thought of this. Mumbo told Hannibal to take a group of elephants over the Alps and into Rome. Hannibal bought 38 elephants from an elephant merchant, and he was so pleased that he gave Hannibal a Silver Saddle Horn. Hannibal won his battle and gave his Silver Saddle Horn to Mumbo as a token of his appreciation.
This was a pretty average legend. All it really talks about is Hannibal having a dream and how he bought 38 elephants in order to fight Rome. I would've liked to see more details about the battle against Rome, but Season 1 legends were never really that sophisticated in the first place. Other than that, this legend was pretty bland and the name Mumbo sounds a little to absurd. Nothing really ro say about this story.
STEPS OF KNOWLEDGE: 6/10
The Red Jaguars were the first team to go onto the temple games after Vicky answered 3/4 of the first questions asked correctly. The Orange Iguanas and Green Monkeys were head-to-head until the second to last step where the Green Monkeys got the last question correct and got a chance to move onto the next round. There was only one wrong answer given early on by the Green Monkeys, which was a pretty hard question asked too. Other than that, nothing stands out about this Steps of Knowledge round
TEMPLE GAMES: 6.5/10
The temple games featured
Damian and
Vicky of the
Red Jaguars and their opponents were
Lee and
Jessica of the
Green Monkeys. Even though it is not stated in his temple interview, but Lee of the Green Monkeys was British since you can hear it in his accent. The only other English player on the show was Janet from "The Priceless Portrait of the Polynesian Girl". The temple games were actually pretty decent somewhat. Both individual games featured close competition, and I liked the elephant theme used for this round. Plus, this episode featured the rare belly sliding game too, which I thought looked fun.
Temple Game #1 - Hannibal Helper
Jessica and Vicky had to climb the Alps and collect all of the stranded elephants. Both girls had to climb the mountain and collect the four elephants along the way and put it in their bags. The first team to collect all four elephants or the team furthest along after 60 seconds will be the winners. In the end, Jessica collected her elephants faster and won with 16 seconds remaining.
Temple Game #2 - Slide like an Elephant
Damian and Lee were on a soapy ramp and they had to slide on their bellies down the ramp. The objective of this temple game is for each player to slide as far as they can. The player that slides the furthest after 60 seconds will win. The final result was very close for both players and it honestly look like a tie. But Damian was further along after time ended, so Kirk rewarded the Red Jaguars with the half-pendant.
Temple Game #3 - Rebuild the Column
In the team game, both players had to work together to rebuild a column. They had to take turns pulling themselves up the column and putting the ring at the top. When one player was done, the second player had to climb the column and do the same thing. The players had to alternate until all of the rings were placed up. The first team to put the most rings on the column after 60 seconds will win. In the end, the Red Jaguars won 7-6 and gave the team 1.5 pendants into the temple.
TEMPLE RUN: 3/10
This is one of those temple runs where taking one wrong turn ruins the chance for a team at having a successful run. Vicky was actually making really good time in the temple before making a wrong turn into the Heart Room. By the time she entered her fifth room, a minute didn't even past by on the clock yet. Unfortunately, she hit trouble once she entered the Treasure Room. The Treasure Room was a dead end for her and it also housed a temple guard. With no where to go, Vicky retreats back into the Heart Room and goes up to the Observatory and then spends the next minute looping between the Heart Room, Treasure Room, and Observatory. When she finally gets her head together, she heads back down into the Throne room and is removed from the Holes of Python. Damian enters with 48 seconds left on the clock, but it is not enough time to make any sort of progress. As a result, his temple time ends with him entering the Tomb of the Ancient Kings.
Honestly, this was not a bad team at all. However, Vicky made the wrong choice of entering the Heart Room. This just made her waste time running into dead ends and detours. Had she not done this, I think this team could've actually won. Although it makes me wonder why the Treasure Chest never opened. This would've been the perfect situation for it to work. This room was probably the biggest waste of space on the show.
FINAL VERDICT: 4.4/10
"Silver Saddle Horn" was an all around uneventful episode that was extremely boring. None of the rounds were good in any way, and it was average at most. The moat was easily the worst part about this episode. It was so long and boring, and it was the longest moat ever recorded on tape. The moat is what hurts this episode's score a lot. Other than that, the rest of the episode was average. The temple run was pretty disappointing like most Season 1 runs seemed to turn out to be. The sad part was that Vicky was fast, but it was one wrong turn that spelled doom for this team. My final recommendation would be to watch this episode for the sake of completion. If you choose not to watch this episode, then you are definitely not missing anything important. It wasn't a bad episode, but it was mediocre and very boring too.
