The pendant splits and disappears, we zoom out from some exotic-looking flowers near the Moat, and then we fade to Kirk and the two teams.
?Welcome back to Legends,? says Kirk, standing in front of The Vine Drop with the two remaining teams. ?Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest? so before we get started, let?s meet our teams. On the Green Monkeys, we have Jennifer. Uh, says here that you play the violin?tell me about that.?
?Um, well, I?ve been playing since fourth grade,? says the fair-haired, pale-skinned girl, ?and I also play guitar, but I kinda like violin better.?
?And why is that so?? asks Kirk.
?Well, it?s sort of easier,? shrugs Jennifer. ?Like, there?s less strings on a violin and stuff like that.?
?Oh, okay,? replies Kirk, turning to her slightly shorter partner with curly brown hair. ?And over here, we?ve got Vincent. Now, Vincent, you play baseball and softball, but you also?you?re also working on a comic book, is that right??
?Uh, yeah,? replies Vincent. ?I?ve been working on it for about a month now, and I?m about? halfway done.?
?What?s the book about?? Kirk then asks.
?Um, it?s about a superhero, but his powers always work at the wrong time,? says Vincent.
?Sounds like a good comic to me,? remarks Kirk. ?Let?s hear it for the Green Monkeys!? The audience applauds for the team while Kirk moves on to the short, brunette girl on the Purple Parrots.
?And over here on the Purple Parrots,? continues, ?we have Kristy. It says here that you like to write?so, what, um, what do you write??
?Mm, mostly short stories and poetry,? answers Kristy. ?I?m working on a novel but I really prefer shorter things.?
?Oh, okay, sounds good,? says Kirk, turning to face the last player. ?And also, we have Daryl. Now Daryl, you?re into photography, aren?t you??
?Uh, yeah,? says the slightly taller, dark-haired boy. ?I got my first camera when I was 10 and I?ve been interested in it ever since.?
?You have a favorite thing to take pictures of?? Kirk asks.
?Um? not really,? shrugs Daryl.
?Okay, let?s hear it for the Purple Parrots!? yells Kirk. The audience cheers briefly before Kirk continues.
?Everyone ready to play?? Kirk asks. The players cheer and yell in response. ?Well, go get ready for your games, and I?ll hang out here with Mr. Olmec and explain what?s gonna happen?? Kirk waves the players off in different directions, who all walk off-camera.
?In the temple games, teams are competing to win pendants of life?? Kirk grabs a pendant out of his pouch and holds it up to the camera. ?The winning team will need those pendants o protect themselves from the dreaded temple guards, as they make their way through the temple. There are three temple games, and Olmec will tell us about Temple Game #1.?
Olmec explains:
?Carloman was so jealous of his brother, Charlemagne, that he stole his crown. Before you is a much more elaborate way of stealing crowns?but along with it is trouble. When Kirk gives the signal, crawl out onto the first cube and grab a crown. Then come back, drop it in your bin, and do it again. On your journeys, you must avoid the swinging obstacles. If you are hit, you must go back and start again. The first player to steal all four crowns, or the player that steals the most crowns at the end of 60 seconds wins.?
?Charlemagne sure did have a lot of crowns,? comments Kirk. ?Let?s set the clock for 60 seconds!?
The clock slams down in the corner of the screen. ?On your marks, get set? GO!? Daryl and Jennifer both begin crawling, but Jennifer is immediately clobbered by a sandbag slamming into her side. ?OH!? groans Kirk, almost as if he was hit himself. ?The Green Monkeys got hit, gotta go back, but the Purple Parrots having no trouble so far?? [0:52] Daryl grabs the first crown and returns it to his basket in less than 15 seconds, and Jennifer places her first crown in her basket with 42 seconds to go. ?Now it gets harder?it?s four times the distance they have to travel as compared to the last time now,? calculates Kirk. [0:36] The Purple Parrots maintain their lead over the Green Monkeys?until they are hit while grabbing a third crown with 17 seconds remaining. ?Oh no, it?s gonna cost them!? comments Kirk. ?This gives the Green Monkeys a chance to catch u?oh, but they got hit too!? Indeed, Jennifer is also hit and sent back. Both players scramble forward, dodging the first swinging obstacle?but we?re OUT OF TIME!
?Alright, stop right there!? shouts Kirk as he runs over to the baskets. ?Let?s count up the scores!? He peers into the bin marked with a green circle first and takes out the crowns. ?The Green Monkeys have one? two crowns? aaaaaand the Purple Parrots have? one? two crowns! It?s a tie?they each get the half pendant of life!? The audience cheers and the players high-five each other.
?Let?s see if we can break that tie in the next game, though,? says Kirk. ?It?s also worth a half-pendant?Olmec, tell us about it.?
Olmec narrates:
?Charlemagne and Carloman, like any two siblings, fought often?with rocks. Today, you?ll be doing the same thing. When Kirk gives the signal, hurl the rocks through the net and through the hole on your opponent?s side. If you miss, grab another rock and throw it. You may block your opponent?s shots, but you may throw only your color rocks. The player that gets the most rocks through the hole at the end of 60 seconds wins? and the other player will have to think up their own revenge plan.?
?Even kings suffer from sibling rivalry,? says Kirk. ?Let?s put 60 seconds on the clock!?
The clock slams into the corner of the screen. ?On your marks, get set? GO!? The players start jumping up and down in their enclosures, trying to toss rocks through the center hole. ?You can block too!? reminds Kirk as he continues to watch red rocks?from the Purple Parrots?and cream-colored rocks?from the Green Monkeys?fly everywhere inside the cage. [0:42] The Purple Parrots, having already scored five rocks, are yet to miss, while the Green Monkeys have only scored thrice. ?This is difficult?they have to throw it through the center hole, past their opponent, and then into the hole in the back to score!? shouts Kirk. The score is now 7-4 Purple with 23 seconds remaining, and the Vincent?now running out of rocks?is just having trouble aiming. He finally sails a fifth rock through the hole above Kristy?s head, but a second later, the Green Monkeys score again. The audience begins to count down the final few seconds, and Kristy manages to score an eleventh time right before the clock explodes?TIME IS UP!
?Okay, I have a feeling I know who?s won this fight,? says Kirk as he runs over to meet the tired players climbing out of the tents. ?The Purple Parrots got 11 and the Green Monkeys only got 5? so the Purple Parrots get the half pendant of life!? Kristy pumps a fatigued fist in the air as the audience cheers.
?So now the Purple Parrots have a full pendant,? continues Kirk, ?and the Green Monkeys have a half. This next game is worth a full pendant?whoever wins this goes to the Temple?and it?s our third and final game. Olmec, tell us about it.?
Olmec continues:
?Carloman was hardly a successful king, but luckily his brother was much better, leading his army through many battles. Today, you?ll have to make your way to the battlefield, but the route you?ll be taking is through a maze of four portions: the Camp, the Jungle, the Lake, and the Tower. When Kirk gives the signal, the first player will start off and tag his partner when he reaches the end of the obstacle. When you reach the end of the Lake, both partners must climb the Tower together and hit the gong at the top. The first team to land four feet on the Tower?s deck and hit their gong? wins.?
?? and goes to the Temple,? finishes Kirk. ?No clock for this one, so get in position, boys? On your marks, get set? GO!? Daryl and Vincent start off, having to conquer the Camp, an area wedged between two walls filled with broken tents and other junk strewn all over the place. ?They have to climb their way to the top!? explains Kirk. This isn?t as easy as it sounds?the entire pile shakes as the players dig their hands and feet into it. The Green Monkeys are first to make it to the top of the slide, and Vincent makes his way down onto the blue mat first, about 20 seconds into the game. He stands up and slaps Jennifer on the hand, right as Daryl slides down. ?The Green Monkeys are going into the Juuuuuuungle!? says Kirk, stretching out the word as Jennifer launches herself into the frame filled with elastics, going low to avoid most of the cords. Kristy is much slower than her opponent, pushing the cords out of her way as she walks through the jungle. ?Oh, the Purple Parrots are just gonna tackle that Jungle,? comments Kirk. Jennifer is first out of the Jungle, and Vincent begins to run toward the Lake. Seven seconds later, Kristy emerges from the end of the Jungle, sending Daryl in a mad dash to the pool?which Vincent is already halfway across, splashing and wading his way to the other side. ?Purple Parrots are gonna have to do some catching up now!? shouts Kirk when Vincent gets out of the Lake, just as Daryl makes it to the halfway point. ?Oh, it?s gonna be a race to the top of the Tower, now!? says Kirk. The Green Monkeys, now reunited, begin climbing the Tower, made up of a large box without handholds or footholds and a taller cylindrical portion embedded with holes to form a ladder. Vincent helps his partner up to the top of the step first, jumping up and down on the trampoline at the foot of the Tower to do so, before he gets pulled up. The Purple Parrots, with a sense of urgency, rush over to the Tower and do the same, but the Green Monkeys are already scaling the ladder, reaching the precariously-perched platform first. They slam down on their gong?they?ve finished and the game is over!
?That?s it!? shouts Kirk. ?That?s it! Stop right there teams. Come on down?spotters, help them out?? The next shot shows the four players suddenly on the ground, walking over to Kirk.
?All right,? he continues. ?The Green Monkeys got up to the tower first, so they get the full pendant. That gives them a pendant and a half?the Green Monkeys are going to the Temple!? The audience explodes in applause as Vincent and Jennifer high-ten each other and hug in celebration.
?Great job!? praises Kirk. ?The Purple Parrots fought all the way, they never gave up? We?ve got a great gift for their efforts and here?s what it is.?
Dee reads the prize:
?It?s a $100 savings bond from Skechers Footwear. Makers of fun, exciting, cool shoes, sneakers, and boots. Skechers?it?s the ?S?!?
The plug fades to Kirk standing with the Green Monkeys. ?The Green Monkeys are gonna go to Olmec?s Temple,? he says, ?retrieve that Crown of Carloman?right after this!? The camera zooms out over the entire set, before switching to a hand-held shot running past the bottom floor of the Temple. The camera focuses on the Crown, sitting on top of the Treasury?s altar, and then we fade to commercial.
