Olmec: Legends of the Hidden Temple: Wild Jungle

(The camera shifts to the temple and its rooms)

Olmec: With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is now.

(Kirk is seen coming down the steps of the temple)

Kirk: Thank you, thank you! It's nice to see you! Thank you, Olmec. Welcome to the Hidden Temple. The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards. Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple. Which one are we going to hear about today?

Olmec: The legend of the Ripped Newspapers of Alfred Wegener.

Kirk: Well, one of these six teams will have the chance to retrieve the ripped newspapers. Will it be The Red Jaguars? The Blue Barracudas? The Green Monkeys? The Orange Iguanas? The Purple Parrots? Or the Silver Snakes? They're going to have to pass some tough mental and physical tests, and in the end, only one team will earn the right to enter Olmec's temple, but first they have to cross the moat, and here's how they're gonna have to do it today.

A log jam has jammed up the Moat, and there is wood strewn all over the place. When I say go, you're gonna hold onto that net above you, and make your way across the Moat by holding on to the net and stepping on the logs. Once the first partner has crossed, the second partner will make their way across, and as soon as he reaches the other side, it's his job to run over and hit th gong! (Kirk hits the Red Jaguars' gong) The first four teams to hit their gongs go on to the next round--are you ready?

Teams: Yeeaaahhh!!!!

Kirk: Olmec, are you ready?

Olmec: Are you ready to rock, Kirk?!

Kirk: I sure am! Well, .....teams, get ready--on your marks, get set, go!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: We've got our four teams heading on to the next round! Going on to the Steps of Knowledge are the Red jaguars and the Green Monkeys! And the Purple Parrots and the Silver Snakes! Orange Iguanas and Blue Barracudas gave it a great effort too. They will not be going away empty handed though, here's what we have for them:

Kirk: As we continue our quest, it's now time for Olmec to tell us about The Ripped Newspapers of Alfred Wegener. But teams, pay close attention because your knowledge of the legend can bring you a step closer to the Temple.

Olmec: In the late 1800s, a person was born in Germany. His name was Alfred Wegener. In the 1900s, he became a teacher. One day, when he was looking at the map of the world, he strangely thought to himself.

Alfred: Why does it look like the coasts of Africa and South America look alike? They are like two pieces of a large puzzle.

Olmec: Walking off, he decided to do an experiment. That night, he tore up some newspaper and tried his experiment, and the coast of America indeed fit into the coast of Africa. Excited to prove his theory, he told to the public what proof he had found.

Alfred: Look at this--two fossils of the same animal can be found in two different parts of the world!

Olmec: Although he had proof, no one believed poor Alfred and he set off never to be seen again. He never lived to see his theory being believed, and it becoming a fact. Today, forgotten the newspaper that he ripped up years ago, which has now ended up in the temple! Your quest is to find the Ripped Newspapers of Alfred Wegener and bring them back here.

Kirk: Thank you Olmec, so tell us, where is this the Ripped Newspaper of Alfred Wegener?

(Camera shows the newspaper, then zooms out to show its location)

Olmec: The Ripped Newspaper of Alfred Wegener can be found in the Shriiine of the Siiilver Monkeeey!!

Kirk: Oh, really? Well! Teams, you are now standing on the Steps of Knowledge. In a minute, Olmec will ask you a question about the legend you just heard. If you think you know the answer, stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you. If you're first, your step will light up. Go ahead, stomp down!

(Silver stomps down first)

Alright Silver Snakes, you rang in first, so you have to answer the question. If you're right, you'll move down to the next level. If you're wrong or run out of time, I'm going to give the other teams a chance to answer. The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec's Temple. Olmec, we are now ready for your first question.

Kirk: We've got our two teams who are going the Temple Games! They are the green Monkeys and the Silver Snakes! The Red Jaguars and the Purple Parrots gave it a great effort too, and they are not going home empty handed. We got a cool prize for both of them, and here it is.

Kirk: These two teams will play for the right to enter Olmec's Temple, and they're gonna do it right after this!

(Pendant joins)

Kirk: Welcome back to Legends! Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest. But before we get started, let's get to know our team players. On the Red Jaguars, we have Jason. He likes writing action stories and he's already done a collection of ten stories! And his partner Courtney loves dancing, and wants to be an airplane pilot, when she is older! Let's hear it for the Red Jaguars!

(Applause)

Kirk: And on the Silver Snakes we have Gareth. He likes swimming and wants to be a marine bioilogist. And his partner Mandy likes to paint, and wants to be a meta...meteorlogist when she grows up! Let's hear it for the Silver Snakes!

(Applause)

Kirk: Alright guys, boys go get ready over there, and girls over on that side. This is what's going to happen: in the temple games, teams are competing to win Pendants of Life. (Kirk holds up a pendant). They need those pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded temple guards as they make their way through the temple. There are three temple games. And this is temple game number one:

Alfred Wegener had to collect proof by getting fossils from faraway places. Now you'll have to do the same. When I say go, you will run out there and grab a fossil at the end, then race back on the outside of the maze and place it in the baskets, over here. You've gotta avoid the swinging obstacles along the way. The team with more fossils at the end of sixty seconds wins!

It's sometimes hard to show people the truth. Let's put sixty seconds on the clock!

(Clock bangs down)

Kirk: On your marks, get set, go!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: Let's count, the Red Jaguars have 2, 4, 6, 9 fosils, and Silver got 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 13 fossils, so they get the half pendant of life. Red Jaguars might win the next game; it's also worth a half pendant, and here it is:

Alfred Wegener said the world was one big piece initially. When I say go, crawl over to the podiums at the corners of the soapy platform, and grab a piece of the world. Then come back and place it in the bin. Then you'll crawl out, and grab the next piece of the world. The first team to collect all four sections of the world, or the team that's further along at the end of sixty seconds wins!

This is like the begining of the world! Let's put sixty seconds on the clock!

(Clock bangs down)

Kirk: On your marks, get set, GO!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: Okay, stop there. The Silver Snakes got all their pieces in first, nice job!And, they get the half pendant of life! The final game is worth a full pendant; here's how it'll work:

Wegener's theory was passed from scientist to scientist, and it made its way to fame.. One partner is on each side of this board, with a route carved through it. When I say go, make your way down and up, and finally down to the end of the maze. The team that gets to the bottom of the maze first wins!

Kirk: Spreading the word is sometimes bad, but sometimes good! On your marks, get set, GO!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: The Silver Snakes got down first, which gives them the full pendant! So now they have two pendants, the Red Jaguars don't have any, the Silver Snakes are going to the temple!

(Cheers)

Kirk: The red Jaguars gave it a great effort too, and here's a cool prize for they're taking home:

Kirk: The Silver Snakes are going to the temple, , right after this!

(Camera pans to some foilage at the base of Olmec)

Kirk: Welcome back to Legends. (Turns to Olmec) Olmec! The Silver Snakes have proven themselves worthy, and now have earned the right to enter your Temple. But before they go in, can you give them an explanation on how to make it through your temple?

Olmec: You could start by running to the Room of the Three Gargoyles. Push in the right tongue, and pass into the Pit of Despair. Crawl through the Pit, then climb into the Mouth of the Jaguar. Place the four fangs into their right places in the mouth, then descend into the Lion's Lair. Correctly place both lions' heads, and pass into the Lush Opening. If the door unlocks below, you could climb down through the plant wall, or, try to enter the Shrine of the Silver Monkey, where you can grab the Ripped Newspapers. Assemble the statue, and you may be headed for the Forest Fire Room. Pull down on the burnt palms to open the door to the Wild Whirlpool. Slide down the tunnel, and plow through the stone wall into the Sacred Safari. Find the key, but beware--the elephants may be temple guards in disguise. Next, climb into the Tropical Forest. Wade through the room, and you will enter the Chameleon Chamber, and change the color of the correct chameleon to release the doors. Then, you can crawl through the Pit of Despair, and finally crawl through the crawl tube and through the Mining Chamber, back to the temple gates. The choices are yours and yours alone. Good luck!

Kirk: Okay, you guys won two pendants in the temple games, and here they are. Now, who's going first?

Gareth: I am!

Kirk: Alright, well, when I say go, you will race through the gates into the temple and you'll make your way towards the the snakes. But be careful ? the Temple has many locked doors and dead ends. Also hidden in the Temple there are also Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. If you enter one of those rooms, a Temple Guard will jump out and grab you. You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on, but if you're caught without a Pendant, you'll be taken out of the Temple? and it'll be Mandy's turn to enter and try her luck. If you can reach the snake, all the doors of the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish. You'll have three minutes, and for your efforts you will both be handsomely rewarded? and here's how!

Kirk: Canada! We'll see if they'll be getting that! Now, Gareth, what's your strategy?

Gareth: We are going down, then all the way across the bottom floor, climb the whirlpool slide thingy, and then through the fire thingy room and grab the newspapers.

Kirk: And if that dosen't work, where'll ya go?

Gareth: Well, Mandy and I never thought of that, but we'll probably try going by the top floor, or just take whatever path opens.

Kirk: I see. Now, where do you think the temple guards will be?

Gareth: I have no idea, but I say the Tropical Forest and the room with the lizard paintings.

Kirk: Alright, well, good luck to the both of you. Let's get in position! Let's put three minutes on the clock!

(Clock bangs down)

Kirk: On your marks, get set, GO!!!

(Gareth heads into the Mining Chamber and hits the actuator. He uses the lower crawl tube towards the Pit of Despair with 2:53 remaining.)

(He heads towards the door of the Chameleon Chamber and hits its actuator with 2:49. He forces it open a little, then heads down the slide with 2:45 left.))

(A helmet-cam wearing temple guard grabs him, but he gives up his pendant with 2:42. He ends up hitting all six actuators before opening the door to the Tropical Forest with 2:31 left.)

(A temple guard emerges out of the swampy grounds, and captures Gareth with 2:28 left. As soon as that happens, Mandy heads into the Mining Chamber.)

(Mandy squeezes into the dark ledges, then heads into the Pit of Despair with 2:17. She then slides down into the Chameleon Chamber with 2:13 and heads into the Tropical Forest with 2:08 left.)

(She then tries the first door to the Sacred Safari with 2:05. She tries the door to the Lush Opening with 1:57, but it won?t budge either. Trying both doors to the Safari again, she then decides to head back into the Chameleon Chamber with 1:32.)

(Climbing up the ladder to the Lion?s Lair, she grabs and places down the first lion head with 1:27, but it?s on the wrong lion. She retries and the second lion is completed with 1:14. But the only door that opens leads back to the Pit of Despair!)

(She climbs sideways and hits the actuator to the door of the Mouth of the Jaguar with 1:08 left. It slides open, and she races up into the room with 0:59.)

(Placing in the first two fangs with 0:49, a temple guard emerges and takes the last pendant. She completes the room with 0:31 left, and heads into the Lush Opening)

(She hears a loud noise, but tries the door to the Shrine of the Silver Monkey. It won?t open, so she climbs back down into the Tropical Forest with 0:18 left.)

(She tries one last hit to the door of the Safari with 0:08 left, but it won?t open. Time runs out shortly after that.)

Kirk: Oh, no! Time ran out. They still get the gift card though, and $500 is pretty good money to spend! I?d like to stay, but we gotta go, see you next time for another great Legend of the Hidden Temple: Wild Jungle style! Buh-bye!

(Credits scroll as the camera pans to flashing lion eyes at the Lion?s Lair)

Olmec: Hmmmmmm....

SUMMARY:

These guys weren't a bad team, they just had bad luck that day. After the frontrunner was taken out in the Tropical Forest, Mandy ran up and down the central shaft, and finally had to climb back into the Tropical Forest from the Lush Opening--the original dead end!

Bad production errors don't happen often, and this is one of the times that they unfortunetely do. The door to the Sacred Safari clearly did not open when it was probably supposed to. The team won two pendants, and had a good chance of getting to the newspapers and out--if the doors had opened.

~This episode featured one of the LONGEST pre-run strategy interviews--including "where are the temple guards?". This was probably just an experimental feature that would be cut in the later episodes.
