Olmec: Legends of the Hidden Temple!

(The camera shifts to the temple and its rooms as the pendant crashes together)

Olmec: With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is now!

(The pendant now splinters to reveal Kirk climbing out of the Jungle Crevice and running up the Steps of Knowledge)

Kirk: Thank you very much! Thank you! Nice to see you! Thank you, Olmec. Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple: Wild Jungle! The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards. Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple. Which one are we going to hear about today?

Olmec: The legend of the Smashed Stone Marker of King Tut's Tomb!

Kirk: Ahh, the Smashed Stone Marker of King Tut's Tomb! Well the legend is set, and one of these six teams will have the chance to retrieve the smashed stone marker! Will it be The Red Jaguars? The Blue Barracudas? The Green Monkeys? The Orange Iguanas? The Purple Parrots? Or the Silver Snakes? They're going to have to pass some tough mental and physical tests, and in the end, only one team will earn the right to enter Olmec's temple, but first they have to cross the moat, and Olmec will tell us how they have to do it today.

Olmec: Before you lies an ancient rod that has fallen across the Moat. When Kirk gives the signal, one player from each team will hang from the rod with their hands and feet, and shinny across to the other side. Once the first partner steps off the rod, it will be the second partner's turn to cross the same way! When both partners reach the other side, run over and hit the gong!

(Kirk hits the Silver Snake?s gong to demonstrate)

Olmec: The first four teams to hit their gongs will go on to the next round!

Kirk: Teams! Are you ready?

Teams: Yeeaaahhh!!!!

Kirk: Olmec, are you ready?

Olmec: You betcha!

Kirk: Teams! On your marks, get set, GO!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: We have our four teams! Going on to the Steps of Knowledge are the Purple Parrots??and the Orange Iguanas??and the Green Monkeys??and the Red Jaguars! Silver Snakes and Blue Barracudas gave it a great effort too; that was a tough moat! They will not be going away empty handed though, here's what we have for them:

Kirk: As the quest continues, it's now time for Olmec to tell us about the Smashed Stone Marker of King Tut?s Tomb. But teams, pay close attention because your knowledge of the legend can bring you a step closer to the Temple.

Olmec: Ancient Egyptain pharaohs used to be buried in pyramids, but King Tut?the last of the pharaohs of Egypt?was buried in an exquisite tomb that discouraged tomb raiders. Over the centuries of sandstorms, the tomb eventually was buried until one day, a water boy placed his bucket and scraped something in the sand.

Water Boy: Eh? What?s this?

Olmec: Taking a closer look, he realized it was an ancient stone marker, and soon after, an archaeologist named Howard Carter inspected the engraved marker. Legend has it, he smashed the surface of the stone with the blade of his shovel to make sure it was stone, then began digging. Eventually, he uncovered King Tut?s grand tomb, and he is still remembered for his feat today?but not for the smashed stone marker, which made its way to the temple. Your goal is to find the Smashed Stone Marker of King Tut?s Tomb and bring it back here.

Kirk: Alright, so where is the Stone Marker?

Olmec: The Smashed Stone Marker of King Tut?s Tomb can be found in the Abandoned Camp.

(The camera shows the marker lying on the stone platform where the removed cage should be)

Kirk: Alright. Teams, you are now standing on the Steps of Knowledge. In a minute, Olmec will ask you a question. If you think you know the answer, I want you to stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you. If you're right, you'll move down to the next level. If you're wrong or run out of time, I'm going to give the other teams a chance to answer. The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec's Temple. Olmec, we are now ready for your first question.

Kirk: Alright! We've got our two teams who are going on to the Temple Games! They are the Purple Parrots.....and the Orange Iguanas! The Red Jaguars and Green Monkeys gave it a great effort too? and they?re not going home empty handed. We got a great gift for both of them, and here it is.

(The Green Monkeys and the Silver Snakes will receive a prize package from British Knights)

Kirk: These two teams are going to be playing for the rights to enter Olmec's Temple, right after this!

(Pendant joins)

Kirk: Welcome back to Legends! Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest. But before we get started, let's hear it for Jonathan and Jessica of the Green Monkeys! As well as Laynie and Peter of the Purple Parrots!

(Applause)

Kirk: OK, you guys can go get ready for their first temple game, girls can get ready for the second. In the temple games, teams are competing to win Pendants of Life. (Kirk holds up a pendant) The winning team will need those pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded temple guards as they make their way through the temple. There are three temple games, so Olmec? please tell us about temple game #1!

Olmec: Tomb raiders often have to deal with tough paths and obstacles as they make their way through the tombs. You?ll have to bring the sack of treasure you collected in the tomb out? through the rubble! When Kirk gives the signal, crawl through the maze dragging your sack and pushing the boulders out of the way. When you reach the end, climb down a level and do it again. When you come out of the tomb, pull the sack of jewels all the way out of the exit. The first team to retrieve their bag of treasure, or the team that?s further along at the end of sixty seconds wins.

Kirk: Looks like one tough tomb to get through. Let?s put sixty seconds on the clock!

(Clock bangs down)

Kirk: On your marks, get set, GO!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: Alright, let?s stop the clock! Whew! Jonathan just blazed through that thing, and he?s going to get the half-pendant of life for his Green Monkeys! YEAH! Alright, the Purple Parrots can catch up in the next game? Olmec, tell us about it.

Olmec: Ancient Egyptian tombs often had many dead ends and chambers to trick tomb raiders like Howard Carter. In this game, you need to guess where there are booby traps and which is the right way. When Kirk gives the signal, plug the hole that you think is the correct one. If you?re right, nothing will happen. Otherwise, you will be squirted with the waters of the Nile. The team with the most correct guesses at the end of sixty seconds wins!

Kirk: They?re gonna get a little wet here, I think? well, we?ll see! Let's put sixty seconds on the clock!

(Clock bangs down)

Kirk: On your marks, get set, GO!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: Wow! They both got really soaked here, but the Green Monkeys got 5 guesses, and the Purple Parrots only got 2, so the Green Monkeys get another half-pendant of life! Now we go on to the final game, so Mr. Olmec? please tell us about temple game numero tres!

Olmec: In Ancient Egypt, the only way to travel was by foot or on camelback, and in this game, you?re going to have to ride a camel yourselves! When Kirk gives the signal, hold on tight? because your camel will start to spin! The team with the most players on the camel at the end of sixty seconds wins!

Kirk: This is one crazy camel they?re about to ride! Let?s put sixty seconds on the clock!

(Clock bangs down)

Kirk: Thank you? on your marks, get set, GO!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: Whoa, whoa, whoa, let?s stop the clock! Oh dear, the Green Monkeys both fell off, that means the Purple Parrots get the full pendant of life! So now it?s a pendant apiece, we?re going on to the tiebreaker!

(The spotters wheel in the tiebreaker pedestal)

Kirk: Okay, you can put your hands around the gong and I'll give you the tiebreaker rules. In a minute, Olmec's going to ask you a question. If you think you know the answer, hit the gong in front of you. If you're right, you and your partner will go into the temple in search of the Smashed Stone Marker of King Tut?s Tomb. But if you're wrong or run out of time, I'll have to give the other teams a chance to answer. All clear?

(The teams nod in response)

Kirk: Okay. Olmec, we are now ready for your final question.

Olmec: The Nile River has a series of waterfalls?are they called cataracts, cattle trucks, or...

(Purple Parrots hit the gong)

Kirk: Purple Parrots!

Amanda: Cataracts!

Olmec: THAT IS CORRECT!

Kirk: The Purple Parrots are going to the temple!

(Cheers)

Kirk: Olmec shouted it out, and he?s sending them to the temple? Laynie?s going wild! The Green Monkeys?what can I say? It was a hard-fought match all the way, we?ve got a prize for them for playing, and here?s what it is:

(The Green Monkeys will be going home with a $100 savings bond from the Willy Wonka Candy Factory)

Kirk: The Purple Parrots are going to Olmec?s temple! Let?s see if they can retrieve the Smashed Stone Marker, right after this!

(Camera pans to some foliage near the far end of the Moat)

Kirk: Welcome back to Legends! The Purple Parrots have proven themselves worthy, and now have earned the right to enter Olmec's Temple. But before we get started, Olmec's gonna give us some information on how to retrieve that Smashed Stone Marker of King Tut!

Olmec: You could start by running up into the Room of the Tropicana Birds. Press down the correct beak, and pass into the Jungle Crevice. There, swing across, and climb into the Mouth of the Jaguar. Place the four fangs into the mouth, and you might descend into the Anaconda's Sanctuary. Place the snake in the correct hole, and you could pass into the Vine Drop. There, you might climb down through the wall of plants, or pull the vines to enter the Shriiiiine...of the Siiiiilver Monkeeey! Assemble the statue, and you may be headed for the Catfish Cove, where you could race down the Falls into the Secret Spring. You might plow through the stone wall into the Abandoned Camp, where you can grab the Smashed Stone Marker, and break open the cage to find the key! Next, climb into the Tropical Forest. If you escape, you will gain entry to the Treasury of the Monkeys, where you can grab the Beard - and find the right bunch of bananas to release the doors. Then, crawl through the Crevice, climb through the Mining Chamber, race down the stairs on back through the temple gates! The choices are yours and yours alone. You won one and a half pendants in the temple games. Who's going first?

Laynie: I am!

Olmec: Very well, Laynie! When Kirk gives the signal, you'll race through the gates into the temple, and make your way towards the Smashed Stone Marker. Hidden inside the temple are temple guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. You can trade your pendant for an extra life and go on but if you're caught without a pendant, you'll be taken out of the temple...and it will be Peter's turn to enter and try his luck. Hidden somewhere in the temple is the other half of your pendant. If you can find it, and you?re carrying the other half, you will earn an extra life. If you can reach the marker, all the doors of the temple will instantly unlock and the temple guards will vanish. Return through the gates with the Stone Marker in three minutes, and you will both be handsomely rewarded? and here's how!

Kirk: Let's see if we can get the mighty Purple Parrots to the Bahamas! Let's get into position, mouthpieces in! Let?s put three minutes on the clock!

(Clock bangs down)

Kirk: Olmec, lower your gate if you please.

(Olmec moans as the gate lowers, and the lights around him switch off as he stops humming)

Kirk: On your marks, get set, GO!

(Laynie jogs up the stairs of the temple and slides down into the Mining Chamber - where a TEMPLE GUARD pops right out and scares Laynie! She screams twice, then throws a pendant down into the gap and hits the actuator of the lower crawl tube)

(She scrambles downwards and enters the Jungle Crevice with 2:40 left. Laynie stumbles and trips a bit, but manages to hit the actuator of the Treasury of the Monkeys, and slides down)

("She's in the Chamber of the Monkeys," comments Kirk, "and she's scramblin' up that ladder!" Laynie throws one bunch of bananas on the altar from the ladder, and luckily, the door above opens as she climbs up to the Anaconda's Sanctuary with 2:26)

(Laynie has a little trouble finding the snake as it has dropped on the ground. She picks it off, and feeds it into the stage-left hole. The stage-right hole, however, works, and the panel covering the ladder slides up with a flash....and reveals the second TEMPLE GUARD that removes Laynie from the temple with 2:11 left!)

("GO PETER, GO!" yells Kirk excitedly as Peter takes off up the stairs and down the slide. He makes a mad dash for the Jungle Crevice and nose-dives right into the foam blocks and in front of the door to the Treasury of the Monkeys. He slides down, then jumps up about three rungs of the ladder to start climbing up)

(With 1:51 on the clock left, Peter crawls into the open door to the Vine Drop, emerging from the other opening in the Vine Drop with 1:46 on the clock. He tugs the first two vines he sees - the stage-right one and the middle one - and the door to the Shrine of the Silver Monkey opens with 1:39)

(Peter rushes into the misty atmosphere of the Shrine and straight up the "cabinet door" to grab the middle piece of the monkey. He sets it down on the pedestal first, then grabs the base. He places it down with 1:32 on the clock, then puts the middle on. The whole statue wobbles as Peter places the head on - but it won't go down!)

("The base is off a little I think," says Kirk from the sidelines, as Peter tries to figure out why the whole statue is swaying. He fumbles with the base a little bit, and finally he secures it into the pedestal. Peter slams the head down, and opens the door to the Catfish Cove with 1:10 on the clock)

(Entering the Catfish Cove, he unhooks one fish from the wall, until Kirk yells "Hit the button!" Peter turns around, sees the hard-to-spot actuator on the side of the door to the Falls, and opens up the panel with 1:13 remaining. Then, he dives headfirst down the slide and spirals down into the Secret Spring)

("He's just one room away!" shouts Kirk. Peter tries to wade through the mass of blue and green balls, but trips and pushes down the wall in the process - right as the third TEMPLE GUARD pops out of the "water" to end the run with 57 seconds on the clock left!)

Kirk: NOOOO! The temple guard got him just one room away! Oh well, we'll get by them next time! We gotta go! Buh-bye!

(Credits scroll as the camera pans to the Purple Parrots' gong at the Moat and the audience)

Summary:

I believe there was a production error, because there were no extra doors in the Shrine of the Silver Monkey that opened that would prevent the team from meeting the third guard, which is a little unfair since there is no way that the team could've won then. Besides that, I was deeply disappointed in the outcome of this run since the Purple Parrots seemed like a pretty good team that deserved the grand prize, in my opinion.
