Olmec: Legends of the Hidden Temple: Wild Jungle

(The camera shifts to the temple and its rooms)

Olmec: With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is now.

(Kirk is seen coming down the steps of the temple)

Kirk: Thank you, thank you! It's nice to see you! Thank you, Olmec. Welcome to the Hidden Temple. The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards. Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple. Which one are we going to hear about today?

Olmec: The legend of the Three Cornered Hat of Henry Cavendish.

Kirk: Well, one of these six teams will have the chance to retrieve the three-cornered hat! Will it be The Red Jaguars? The Blue Barracudas? The Green Monkeys? The Orange Iguanas? The Purple Parrots? Or the Silver Snakes? They're going to have to pass some tough mental and physical tests, and in the end, only one team will earn the right to enter Olmec's temple, but first they have to cross the moat, and here's how they're gonna have to do it today.

One player from each team is standing on a platform that is attached to an ancient rope above them by a pole. When I say go, the player will pull themselves across the water using the rope. When the player steps onto the deck, her partner will pull the platform in and cross the exact same way. Once the second player steps onto the deck, it's his job to run over here, and hit the gong! (Kirk hits the Red Jaguars' gong) The first four teams to hit their gongs go on to the next round. Hey teams, are you ready?

Teams: Yeeaaahhh!!!!

Kirk: Olmec, are you ready?

Olmec: You can bet on my ancient temple that I am!

Kirk: Alright then! Teams--on your marks, get set, go!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: We've got our four teams going to the steps! Going on to the Steps of Knowledge are the Blue Barracudas and the Green Monkeys! And the Orange Iguanas and the Silver Snakes! Red Jaguars and Purple Parrots gave it a great effort too. They will not be going away empty handed though, here's what we have for them:

Kirk: As we continue our quest, it's now time for Olmec to tell us about the Three Cornered Hat of Henry Cavendish. But teams, pay close attention because your knowledge of the legend can bring you a step closer to the Temple.

Olmec: One of the more famous British Scientists in the 18th century was Henry Cavendish. He was known for the Cavendish Expreiment and measuring the Earth's density, but he discovered something else very important.

Henry: I wonder what happens if I mix this oxygen with this hydrogen...

Olmec: Henry placed the two gases in a test tube and sealed it, and went to heat it up. Legend has it, he was wearing a three-cornered hat upon his head. Shortly, he found little droplets of water in the test tube.

Henry: I've got it! Water is made out of hydrogen and oxygen!

Olmec: Excited, Henry sold his discovery to the world and became a famous scientist, while his three-cornered hat made its way to the temple! Your quest is to retrieve the Three-Cornered Hat of Henry Cavendish, and bring it back here.

Kirk: Thank you Olmec, so tell us, where is this the hat?

(Camera shows the hat, then zooms out to show its location)

Olmec: The Three-Cornered Hat of Henry Cavendish can be found in the Chameleon Chamber.

Kirk: Ah, the Chameleon Chamber! Teams, you are now standing on the Steps of Knowledge. In a minute, Olmec will ask you a question about the legend you just heard. If you think you know the answer, stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you. If you're first, your step will light up. Go ahead, stomp down!

(Green stomps down first)

Kirk: Alright Green Monkeys, you rang in first, so you have to answer the question. If you're right, you'll move down to the next level. If you're wrong or run out of time, I'm going to give the other teams a chance to answer. The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec's Temple. Olmec, we are now ready for your first question.

Kirk: We've got our two teams who are going the Temple Games! They are the Green Monkeys and the Blue Barracudas! The Orange Iguanas and the Silver Snakes gave it a great effort too, and they are not going home empty handed. We got a cool prize for both of them, and here it is.

Kirk: These two teams will play for the right to enter Olmec's Temple, and they're gonna do it right after this!

(Pendant joins)

Kirk: Welcome back to Legends! Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest. But before we get started, let's get to know our team players. On the Green Monkeys, we have Jon. He likes collecting sports cards and wants to be a computer programmer! And his partner Sharon likes singing, and plans to be an Olympics swimmer! Let's hear it for the Green Monkeys!

(Applause)

Kirk: And on the Blue Barracudas we have Chester. He likes sketching and is great at soccer and basketball. And his partner Lavender likes to dance, play sports, and also wants to be a professional swimmer when she grows up! Let's hear it for the Blue Barracudas!

(Applause)

Kirk: OK, you can go ahead and get ready for your games, and I'll explain what's going to happen here. In the temple games, teams are competing to win Pendants of Life. (Kirk holds up a pendant). They need those pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded temple guards as they make their way through the temple. There are three temple games, and here is temple game #1:

Henry Cavendish liked to be secretive, and after his death, everyone wanted to know what he hid. When I say go, you're gonna make your way to the end there, grab a document, and return here and place it in your bin. But watch out for the swinging bags along the way! The team that retrieves all six documents or the team that's further along at the end of sixty seconds wins!

OK, need to get those documents! Let's set that clock for sixty seconds!

(Clock bangs down)

Kirk: On your marks, get set, go!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: OK, stop the clock! The Green Monkeys managed to get all their six documents back to their bin, so they get the half pendant of life! Blue Barracudas can catch up in the next game because it's also worth a half pendant, and this is what it's about:

When hydrogen and oxygen are mixed, their atoms stick together to form a water molecule. Here you just need to get the oxygen to the hydrogen. When I say go, you're going to grab an oxygen atom and stick it to your helmet. Then you gotta climb the ramp and stick the atom to the hydrogen. The player with the most oxygen atoms on the hydrogen atom at the end of sixty seconds wins!

This game is tough - they have to climb up a ramp covered in water just to create more water! Let's put sixty seconds on the clock!

(Clock bangs down)

Kirk: On your marks, get set, GO!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: Okay, stop there. The Blue Barracudas got two atoms, and the Green Monkeys got...two atoms too! They BOTH get the half pendant, so I guess the next game decides who goes to the temple, because the final game is worth a full pendant and here it is:

Henry Cavendish needed to heat the gasses to make it become water. When I say go, one player from each time will run across the platform carrying the test tube to the middle, hand their partner the test tube, and then their partner will run to the end to heat the mixture - they will give it to their spotter to do that! The first team to get their mixture heated wins!

Kirk: I guess this game is a bit easier, because the spotters get to do the heating! Oh, well - get ready! On your marks, get set, GO!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: The Blue Barracudas managed to heat their mixture first, so they get the full pendant of life! So now they have one and a half pendants, the Green Moneys have one, the Blue Barracudas are going to the temple!

(Cheers)

Kirk: The Green Monkeys gave it a great effort too, and here's a cool prize for they're taking home:

Kirk: Let's see if we can get this tough team to the Three-Cornered Hat right after this!

Kirk: Welcome back to Legends. The Blue Barracudas made a tremendous comeback, and now have proven themselves worthy, and now have earned the right to enter Olmec's Temple. But before we get started, Olmec will give us some information on how to retrieve the the Three Cornered Hat of Henry Cavendish.

Olmec: You could start by running to the Room of the Three Gargoyles. Push in the right tongue, and pass into the Pit of the Fallen Logs. Next, climb into the Mouth of the Jaguar. Place the four fangs into their right places in the mouth, then descend into the Room of the Boulders, and pass into the Lush Opening. If the door unlocks below, you could climb down through the plant wall, or, try to enter the Shrine of the Silver Monkey. Assemble the statue there, and you may be headed for the Forest Fire Room. Pull down on the burnt palms to open the door to the Wild Whirlpool. Slide down the tunnel, and plow through the stone wall into the Sacred Safari. Find the key, but beware--the elephants may be temple guards in disguise. Next, climb into the Tropical Forest. Wade through the room, and you will enter the Chameleon Chamber where you can grab the Three-Cornered Hat of Henry Cavendish. Change the color of the correct chameleon to release the doors. Then, you can crawl through the Pit and through the Mining Chamber, back to the temple gates. The choices are yours and yours alone. Good luck!

Kirk: Okay, you guys won one and a half pendants in the temple games, and here they are. Now, who's going first?

Chester: I am!

Kirk: OK Chester, when I say go, you will race through the gates into the temple and you'll make your way towards the Hat of Henry Cavendish. But be careful?the Temple has many locked doors and dead ends. Also hidden in the Temple there are also Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. If you enter one of those rooms, a Temple Guard will jump out and grab you. You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on, but if you're caught without a Pendant, you'll be taken out of the Temple? and it'll be Lavander's turn to enter and try her luck. Hidden in the temple is the other half pendant, Lavander. When you find it, you can complete your pendant and you will earn an extra life. If you can reach the Three-Cornered Hat, all the doors of the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish. You'll have three minutes, and for your efforts you will both be handsomely rewarded?and here's how!

Kirk: The Bahamas! Let's see if we can get the Blue Barracudas there, but first, let's hear your strategy for getting the hat, Chester.

Chester: I'll go up first, and then head across the top floor and try to make my way down towards the Chameleon room to grab the hat.

Kirk: Well, we'll see if that works. Let's get in position here, mouthpieces in! Let's put three minutes on the clock!

(Clock bangs down)

Kirk: On your marks, get set, GOO!!!

(Chester heads up to the Room of the Three Gargoyles. The first tongue opens the door, and he jumps into the Pit of the Fallen Logs with 2:49 left.)

("He's a fast guy," comments Kirk, as he scrambles up to the actuator of the Room of the Boulders with 2:43 left. He hits it, and slides the door down.)

(Entering the room strewn with rocks on the ground, he almost trips right when a temple guard pops out with 2:35 left on the clock. Chester hands him the pendant, and hits the actuator to the Lush Opening with 2:26 left.)

(Chester heads into the Lush Opening, and hits the actuator right to the Shrine of the Silver Monkey with 2:20. Entering, he grabs the base and quickly places it on the pedestal - but there's a half pendant there! He waves it to Lavander.)

("He waves the pendant, smart move!" says Kirk as Chester places the middle with 2:01 left. He slams down the head with 1:58 left, but no doors open!)

(Confused, Chester backtracks to the Lush Opening and hits the actuator to the Mouth of the Jaguar, but then a loud door opening noise occurs, indicating the unlocked wall of plants with 1:50 left.)

(He pushes aside the plants and drops down into the Tropical Forest...just as a second guard emerges to capture Chester with 1:44 left on the clock!)

(Kirk yells, and Lavander races up to the Room of the Three Gargoyles, and jumps down to the Pit with 1:37 left. She climbs up into the Room of the Boulders, and heads to the Lush Opening with 1:25 remaining.)

(Lavander runs right through the Lush Opening into the Shrine of the Silver Monkey with 1:18 left and collects the half-pendant that her partner left her with 1:15.)

(Heading back to the Lush Opening, she climbs down into the Tropical Forest with 1:06 left.)

(She hits the actuator to the Chameleon Chamber, and enters the room with a whopping 59 seconds left!)

(She grabs the hat, and all the doors open, and Lavander crawls out to the Pit of the Fallen Logs with 0:48 left on the clock.)

(Entering the Mining Chamber, she has trouble climbing downwards to the exit of the temple. She drops out of the temple, then crosses the gate with 0:39 remaining!

Kirk: They did it! The brought me back the Three-Cornered Hat of Henry Cavendish! They're gonna get it all, the iPod, the gift cards, they're going to the Bahamas! We have to get outta here now, see you next time for another great Legend of the Hidden Temple: Wild Jungle style! Buh-bye!

Summary:

The temple route was WAY too simple in this episode, which led to the win which wasn't very well-deserved. The run was predictable and unexciting, and it even contained a production error - the door to the Tropical Forest failed to open until the second time that Chester entered the Lush Opening. The half-pendant was in the depression in the pedestal where the base of the Silver Monkey should be placed.

Trivia
~The second temple game talks about the mixture of hydrogen and oxygen to make water. I find it interesting that you only need one atom of oxygen, but TWO hydrogen atoms to make water
~This was the first time a contestant ever retrieved an artifact sucessfully from the bottom of the central shaft
