The camera makes its way through lush greenery, and the palms move away as ambient animal noises are heard. Portions of a temple are shown, and suddenly the jungle ends, and we see Olmec?s face light up and shout, ?LEGENDS OF THE HIDDEN TEMPLE!?

The show?s title card?a pendant of life?crashes together on the screen, and the camera shifts to focus on the temple and its rooms. ?With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is now!?

The pendant splinters and Kirk is seen crawling out of the Jungle Crevice to run right into the center of the stage and up the Steps of Knowledge as he begins his narration.

?Thank you, thank you!? says Kirk. ?It's nice to see you! Thank you, Olmec. Welcome to the Hidden Temple. The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards. Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple. Which one are we going to hear about today??

Olmec replies, ?The Legend of The Secret Saddle of General Grant!?

?Ooh, the Secret Saddle of General Grant,? says Kirk. ?Well, the legend is set and one of these six teams will have the chance to retrieve the Secret Saddle. Will it be The Red Jaguars??

At this point, the camera focuses on each team as they are introduced.

?The Blue Barracudas??
?The Green Monkeys??
?The Orange Iguanas??
?The Purple Parrots??
?Or the Silver Snakes??

?They?re going to have to pass some tough mental and physical tests,? continues Kirk, ?and in the end, only one team will have the right to enter Olmec?s temple, but first they have to cross the moat, and Olmec?s gonna tell us how they have to do it today.?

Olmec instructs:
?Before you lies the remains of an ancient rolling bridge. When Kirk gives the signal run across the wooden rollers and ?without letting any knees or hands touch the rollers, make your way to the other side. If you fall in, you must go back and start again. When you reach the end, step off the bridge, and then it?ll be your partner?s turn to cross the rollers. When both partners reach the other side, run over and hit the gong!?

Kirk hits the Silver Snakes? gong to demonstrate, which?in turn?lights up a bright silver.

?The first four teams to hit their gongs will go on to the next round,? finishes Olmec. ?Teams!? says Kirk, ?are you ready??

The teams excitedly reply, ?Yeeaahhhh!?

Kirk then asks, ?Olmec, are you ready??

?Let?s rock,? replies Olmec.

?TEAMS!? shouts Kirk. ?On your marks, get set, GO!?

All six girls begin running on the rollers, with the Green Monkeys? girl misunderstanding the rules?she pathetically takes a headfirst dive down the rollers and is sent back by the stunt spotters. ?No,? says Kirk, ?you can?t use your hands in this one?you just have to keep walking?keep walking!? The other five teams have less trouble, but the Orange Iguanas can?t seem to really get across without stumbling or slowing down, and eventually they collapse and are sent back about 2 feet away from the deck. ?It?s tough because these rollers are slippery!? comments Kirk as the remaining four teams send their other players over?and at this point, it?s a little obvious who?s going to have a landslide victory, but?

?Oh no!? shouts Kirk as the Red Jaguars almost do a complete 360-degree flip in the air, landing on his back! ?C?mon, you didn?t touch your hands?keep going, keep going, keep?Blue Barracudas in! Silver Snakes in! Purple Parrots in!? Suddenly, a wave of teams arrives and all gong in, closely followed by?

?THE RED JAGUARS!? yells Kirk. ?We have our four teams! Going onto the Steps of Knowledge are the Silver Snakes?and the Purple Parrots?and the Blue Barracudas?and the Red Jaguars. The Orange Iguanas and the Green Monkeys gave it a great effort; they?re not going away empty handed. We?ve got a great gift for them, and here?s what it is.?

The screen transitions to a shot of the four teams atop the Steps of Knowledge. ?As the quest continues,? says Kirk, ?it?s now time for Olmec to tell us about The Secret Saddle of General Grant. But teams?pay attention, because your knowledge of the legend can bring you a step closer to Olmec?s temple.?

Olmec narrates the legend:
?One of the greatest American presidents and generals was Ulysses S. Grant. Legend has it, that he was extremely unlucky and talented. When he worked on his father?s farm, he did not prosper, and he was never happy with his short-lived job as a bill collector. One day, he asked his father?

??Father, can I have a job??

??You?ll have to find your own,? replied his father.

??How about that open space you have in your saddle shop??

??Uh?what open space??

?Eventually, Grant?s father had no choice but to let Grant work in his shop as an assistant. He did so well, that his father even let him have one of his saddles carved out of pure silver for himself. Little did his father know that one day he would use it when he rode a horse during the Civil War. But when General Grant went on to be president, he locked his father?s gift up in a cabinet, and it disappeared. Your quest is to find the Secret Saddle of General Grant and bring it back here.?

?Thank you Olmec,? says Kirk after a short pause, ?but tell us?where is the Secret Silver Saddle??

?The Secret Saddle of General Grant can be found?in the Shrine of the Silver Monkey!? shouts Olmec. A spotlight focuses on the saddle placed on top of the inactive cabinet door.

?Silver saddles, silver monkeys?why didn?t I think of that?? continues Kirk. ?Teams?you are now standing on the Steps of Knowledge. In a minute, Olmec?s gonna ask you a question. If you think you know the answer, stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you. If you?re right, you?ll move down to the next level, but if you?re wrong or run out of time, I?m gonna have to give the other teams a chance to answer. The first two teams that make it to the bottom level?will be one step closer to Olmec?s temple. Olmec, we?re now ready for your first question??

Olmec asks: ?Was General Grant?s first name??

The Silver Snakes ring in: ?Ulysses??

?That is correct,? replies Olmec. ?Good job, step down!? says Kirk, pointing at the second step. ?Next question??

Olmec asks: ?Was General Grant?s first job?to work in a saddle shop, to work as President of the United States, or to work on his father?s farm??

After an abrupt silence, The Purple Parrots buzz in: ?Work on his father?s farm???

?That is correct,? declares Olmec, as the Purple Parrots step down to join the Silver Snakes. ?Pulled it outta the clutch, nice move!? says Kirk. ?Next question??

Olmec asks: ?Was General Grant?the eighteenth president??

The Silver Snakes interrupt: ?The eighteenth president.?

?That is correct,? says Olmec as the Silver Snakes move down to the third step. ?Now they?re one step away from the temple games!? comments Kirk. ?We?re looking for two teams?next question!?

Olmec asks: ?Was General Grant?s secret saddle made out of?marble, silver, or gold??

The Silver Snakes stomp down first: ?Silver!?

?That is correct!? shouts Olmec. ?We?ve got our first team going on to the temple games!? cheers Kirk. ?It?s the Silver Snakes! Still looking for one more team?next question!?

Olmec asks: ?Did General Grant work in his father?s shop as?a bellboy, an assistant, or a cashier??

The Purple Parrots stomp down: ?An assistant??

?That is correct,? replies Olmec, as the Purple Parrots step down to the third step. ?Alright, now they?re one step away from the temple games!? says Kirk. ?Next question??

Olmec asks: ?Did his father give Grant the saddle?on his birthday, for doing a good job, or for??

The Blue Barracudas answer: ?As a gift??

?That is NOT one of our three choices,? announces Olmec. ?The three choices are??

The Purple Parrots interject: ?For doing a good job??

?THAT IS CORRECT!? yells Olmec. ?We?ve got our two teams going onto the temple games!? shouts Kirk. ?They are the Silver Snakes and the Purple Parrots! The Blue Barracudas and the Red Jaguars did a great job too?they had barely any chance to answer. We?re gonna give them a great gift for playing, and here?s what it is!?

The screen wipes to reveal Kirk with his hands on the two remaining teams? shoulders. ?These two teams are going to be competing for the rights to enter Olmec?s temple?right after this!? The camera flies over the Moat, zooms in on the audience, and focuses on a section in front of the Red Jaguars? bridge of rollers. The show?s logo appears onscreen, and then the screen fades to a commercial break.

The screen reappears as the logo splits into two and fades into the distance, while the camera zooms out from an eerily-lit skull sitting in some foliage.

?Welcome back to Legends,? says Kirk, standing  in front of The Tigers? Den with the two teams. ?Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest, so let?s hear it for Dean and Jessica of the Silver Snakes! And John and Emily of the Purple Parrots!? The audience cheers loudly, as Kirk points the teams in the direction of their temple games. ?Okay, go get ready for your games?? The players walk off in different directions, as Kirk continues his narration.

?In the temple games, teams are competing for pendants of life?? Kirk grabs a pendant out of his pouch and holds it up to the camera. ?The winning team will need those pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded temple guards, as they make their way through the temple. There are three temple games, and Olmec will tell us about Temple Game #1.?

Olmec explains:
?To make saddles, materials such as metals and leather had to be collected. In this game, you?ll be collecting some materials for General Grant?s father. When Kirk gives the signal, jump onto the other platform, grab a material, then jump back to the first platform to put it in your basket. The player with the most materials in their basket at the end of 60 seconds wins.?

?Never seen delivery guys 10 feet in the air before, have ya?? says Kirk. ?Let?s put 60 seconds on the clock!?

The clock appears in the corner of the screen. ?On your marks, get set?GO!? Emily and Dean both jump onto the other platform successfully, grab a sheet of leather, and return it to their basket in about eight seconds, making? ?Good time so far,? comments Kirk, right as Emily?s feet crash into the second platform and she has to be pulled up to the platform by the spotter. Unfortunately, that lets Dean pull into the lead with one more material in his basket, and at this point, Emily can?t catch up?leaving it with Dean in the lead for the entire game until the ceiling lights flash and the game ends.

?That?s it! It?s over!? shouts Kirk, looking up at the spotters? scorecards. ?The Silver Snakes got seven pieces of leather, and the Purple Parrots got six pieces of leather; The Silver Snakes get the half pendant of life! The next temple game is also worth a half-pendant. Olmec, tell us about it.?

Olmec narrates:
?Soldiers who fought in wars also had to know how to ride horses. In this game, you?ll be tested for your skills?on our very spirited warhorse. When Kirk gives the signal, hold on tight?because the horse will start to spin! The player to stay on the longest before 60 seconds wins!?

?This horse seems a little dizzy, and so will our players!? comments Kirk. ?Let?s put 60 seconds on the clock!?

The clock slams down into the corner of the screen. ?On your marks?get set?GO!? The spotters turn the horses round and round, switching directions rapidly to confuse the players. ?Doing good so far,? says Kirk, ?but how long can they last before they break? Oh my, 60 seconds is gonna seem like a loooooong time!? 45?44?43? The players seem to be holding on, but John keeps on almost slipping from the horse, making him swing around the entire pole as it spins. ?Can they hold on?? asks Kirk. ?Can they hold on for another 30 seconds?NO! It?s over!? Jessica falls from the horse when it changes direction, and the clock fades out at 32 seconds.

?Alright, time?s up! No, actually, the game is over?and the Purple Parrots stayed on the longest, so they?ve won a half pendant of life! So now it?s a half-pendant for each of our teams; we?re going onto the third and final game. It?s worth a full pendant?Olmec, tell us about it.?

Olmec continues:
?Many soldiers were lost in intense battles, and sometimes whole troops were lost. In this game, we?ll see how far your team can get into enemy?s territory. When Kirk gives the signal, boost your partner up to the first step, who will then help you up. Then, boost your partner up the next step and do it again! When you reach the top step, take the flag and plant it in the sand to conquer the territory. The first team to conquer the enemy?s territory wins!?

?This is for the temple!? reminds Kirk. ?On your marks, get set, GO!? The two teams are fairly even as they boost their partners up, but Jessica has great trouble pulling?the extremely tall?Dean up to the second step, and the Purple Parrots manage to pull ahead?a lead that seems to be quite a decent one. ?They?re almost at the top, it?s neck-and-neck!? shouts Kirk. ?Who?s gonna get it? Who?s gonna plant the flag first? Who will be going?it?s the Purple Parrots!? The Purple Parrots slam their colored flag into the elevated sandpit to end the game, as the crowd goes wild.

?That?s it! It?s over! The Purple Parrots get the full pendant of life!? announces Kirk. ?So that gives them one and a half, the Silver Snakes had a half? The Purple Parrots are going to the temple! Silver Snakes?it was a hard-fought match, they never gave up! We?re gonna give ?em a great gift, and here?s what it is??

Dee reads the prize:
?BK Ratch Tech?strap on the noise! BK Ratch Tech. Prepare?to mutate!?

?Let?s see if we can get the Purple Parrots to Olmec?s temple, retrieve that Secret Saddle, right after this!? Kirk high-fives John, and the camera pans to the Wildebeasts? Hideout before it moves downward revealing the rooms of the central shaft, and zooms in on the three bunches of bananas hanging on the ladder in the Treasury of the Monkeys, before fading to commercial.

The camera zooms out from a close-up shot of some rubble in front of the Tropical Forest, then switches to a shot of Kirk with his hands on the Purple Parrots? shoulders.

?Welcome back to Legends,? he says. ?John and Emily have proven themselves worthy and now have earned the right to enter Olmec?s temple. But first, Olmec?s going to give them some information to help them retrieve The Secret Saddle?of General Grant.?

Olmec begins his rundown:
?You could start by climbing through the Tigers' Den and climbing down into the Jungle Crevice. Crawl through the pit, then race into the Treasury of the Monkeys. Find the right bunch of bananas, and you could choose to go up into the Anaconda's Sanctuary, or into the Tropical Forest. If you escape, you might have a chance to enter the Secret Woods. Reach into the log and find the key, or plow through the wall and into the Lion Cage.

?There, ride the elevator up, and into the Catfish Cove. Find the correct bucket, and open the door to the Shriiiiine?of the Silver Monkey?where you can grab the Secret Saddle. Assemble the statue, and you may be headed for the vine drop. Pull the vines to open the doors, and race up to the Wildebeasts' Hideout. Turn the correct horn, and swing on the vine across the Crevice. Then, pass thru the Room of the Tropicana Birds, race down the stairs, and back through the temple gates. The choices are yours and yours alone. You won one and a half pendants in the temple games. Who's going first??

?I am!? replies John.

?Very well, John!? replies Olmec. ?When Kirk gives the signal, you'll race through the gates into the temple, and make your way towards the Secret Saddle. Hidden inside the temple are temple guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. You can trade your pendant for an extra life and go on but if you're caught without a pendant, you'll be taken out of the temple...and it will be Emily's turn to enter and try her luck. Hidden somewhere in the temple is the other half of your pendant. If you can find it, and you?re carrying the other half, you will earn an extra life. If you can reach the Secret Saddle, all the doors of the temple will instantly unlock and the temple guards will vanish. Return through the gates with The Secret Saddle of General Grant in three minutes, and you will both be handsomely rewarded? and here's how!?

Dee reads the team?s prizes:
? For just going into the temple, you?ll each receive $500 worth of Toys ?r? Us Geoffrey Dollars! A great gift idea because they?re as good as cash at any Toys ?r? Us Store throughout the U.S.! From Toys ?r? Us
? If they can grab the Secret Saddle before three minutes is up, you?ll also get this laptop! The R400, with extensive memory space and Intel?s Core Duo. It dosen?t matter if you?re working, resting, or playing, because this laptop is for you. From Lenovo
? And if they can bring the Secret Saddle out of the temple before three minutes is up, you?ll both be going to Busch Gardens! Busch Gardens Africa in Tampa, Florida, featuring dazzling scenery and the tallest, steepest, and scariest roller coaster on the east coast?Sheikra! From Anheiser-Busch Entertainment

?Busch Gardens?I love it!? says Kirk. ?We?ll see if we can get them there. Let?s get in position?and let?s put three minutes on the clock!?

The clock slams down in the corner of the screen. ?Olmec, lower your gate!? The gate lowers as Olmec moans and the lights around him switch off. ?On your marks, get set?GO!?

?There goes John! Into the temple!? Kirk begins his running commentary as John jogs up the stairs and pulls himself under the small branch and down the slide. ?He?s going into the Tigers? Den!? says Kirk, as John drops down into the depths of the brightly-lit room?but up pops the first TEMPLE GUARD! John tosses a pendant down into the caverns, and quickly composes himself to head down the crawl space into the Jungle Crevice. [2:43] ?From there, he?s got a couple choices?it looks like he?s going down,? comments Kirk, ?down into the Treasury of the Monkeys!? John scrambles up the ladder, grabs one bunch of bananas and places it on the altar. Nothing happens, so he swipes it off, climbs up again, and grabs another bunch. This time, he places it on the altar and holds it there?and a monkey screams in happiness, the altar glows, the room darkens, and the doors to the Tropical Forest and the Anaconda?s Sanctuary open. John chooses the former, and enters the Tropical Forest. [2:24] He wades across the murky swamp-like foundation, but before he can reach the other end, a slightly-delayed second temple guard jumps out to capture him with 2:19 left on the clock!

Because the room is so dark, even Kirk delays for a few seconds before he shouts, ?Oh! Go, Emily! Go!? Emily jogs up the stairs and around the corner behind Olmec, sliding headfirst down the slide into the Tigers? Den?something  not done often, as it can really slow players down, which seems to be happening to Emily here, but she makes up lost time and scrambles through the Tigers? Den, hopping onto the ledges. She crawls down the tube into the Jungle Crevice, then pulls herself under the doorway and into the Treasury of the Monkeys. [2:01] ?If anyone can save the day,? comments Kirk, ?it?ll be Emily, the mile runner!? She runs right through the Treasury, and dives headfirst into the? ?Swampy murk of the Tropical Forest!? yells Kirk. ?Will she make it through the Tropical Forest? Will she?uh oh!? Emily seems to be caught up in some vines hanging off a ladder, and trips, stumbling and planting her head face-first into the swamp. ?Oh no,? says Kirk, ?the Forest can reeeeaaaally slow you down,? says Kirk, stretching the word. [1:50] She manages to hit the actuator to the lower door of the Secret Woods however, and it opens up to let her pull herself through.

[1:43] Emily slides down and hits the charred floor of the Secret Woods on her behind?hard. ?She might feel that one in the morning,? says Kirk. ?But is she going to find that key?? She stands up, walks through some charcoal-looking material, and peels the top off the rotting log. ?It?s tough, because all that rotten wood inside?? Emily searches for the key among the shredded wood, even emptying most of the shreds out of the log, but with no luck. ?Break through the wall then!? advises Kirk. Emily makes one last search, then hits the wall with both hands, walks over the pile of fallen stones, and climbs over the small stone ledge and into the Lion Cage with 1:21 left on the clock. Emily climbs up the ladder to the Shrine, and hits the actuator?but with no luck. ?She?s going to have to go up the cage to the Catfish Cove Room,? states Kirk, a little unnecessarily. Emily climbs down the ladder, runs over to the cage, maneuvers around the lion statue and crawls inside the elevator part of the cage. ?She has to take the elevator,? says Kirk as the elevator starts to separate from the metal bars, ?And that?s gonna cost her a little time?? John starts cheering her on, as the elevator slowly rises up into the Catfish Cove.

Emily finally reaches the second floor, opens the cage door on top, and emerges into the Catfish Cove with precisely one minute remaining. ?GO!? hollers John from the sidelines. ?GO!!? Emily unhooks one of the fish?from the stage-rightmost fish, and places it in the first bucket. The doors remain locked, so she?instead of using the first fish?makes another trip to the back of the room and grabs the second fish off the hook to the right of the temple guard door, and places it in the second bucket. [0:53] She then grabs it out, and puts it in the leftmost bucket, opening the door to the Shrine of the Silver Monkey with 48 seconds remaining! ?One room away!? says Kirk. ?Grab the?grab the saddle! Grab?SHE?S GOT IT! SHE?S GOT IT! ALL THE DOORS ARE OPEN!? Both Kirk and John go wild when Emily grabs the rather large SILVER SADDLE with 43 seconds on the clock. ?Will she take the right route?? asks Kirk rhetorically, as Emily jogs through the Vine Drop and crawls into the Anaconda?s Sanctuary?where for some reason, the door upward still remains locked. [0:35] ?Move, Emily, move! You?ve got to keep moving!? says Kirk. ?Come on, into the Pit of Despair?? Emily reaches the top ledge of the Jungle Crevice?but jumps down into the foam blocks instead! ?Oh dear, she?s not going the easy way!? comments Kirk as Emily crawls into the Tigers? Den as fast as she can.

[0:22] ?Keep going?go hard! Go fast! Reach the gates?? says Kirk, as the audience cheers loudly. Emily climbs up onto the final ledge, and runs up the slide out of view behind Olmec? ?Will she make it?? asks Kirk. ?Will she make it pass the gate?I think she?s gonna?SHE MADE IT! SHE MADE IT!? Emily bounds down the entire set of stairs and lands on the ground to hug John to record the victory with 14 seconds left! ?SHE MADE IT!? shouts Kirk. ?Unbelievable! This was a strong Purple Parrots team all day?they got it all folks! The gift money, the laptop?they?re going to Busch Gardens! YES! Good job, Purple Parrots! Give me some five!?

The credits scroll as various ending scenes are shown: Kirk and the Purple Parrots team group hugging, some foliage in front of the Secret Woods, and the empty shelves of the Shrine of the Silver Monkey. Finally, the camera fades out, and the light bulb-Nickelodeon logo is shown as an electric buzzing noise is heard.
Title: Wild Jungle EP: The Secret Saddle of General Grant
Post by: The Bamboo Forest on August 08, 2009, 12:28:05 AM
Artifact Name: The Secret Saddle of General Grant
Location: The Shrine of the Silver Monkey
Result: Won! 0:14 left!
Time Remaining: N/A
Pendants Won: 1.5

The "bridge of rollers" Moat crossing seemed to give the most entertainment...and by that, I mean epic fails. The Green Monkeys girl obviously was either (a) deaf or (b) retarded, because she - instead of walking across - took a dive, landed on her stomach, and slid all the way down the rollers...only to be sent back by the spotters for cheating. XD The Red Jaguars slipped and fell backwards, almost flipping completely over, but landing on his back...hard. However, they did advance to the Steps of Knowledge, along with the Blue Barracudas, the Silver Snakes, and the Purple Parrots.

The Steps of Knowledge weren't too entertaining; the Silver Snakes and Purple Parrots basically swept the steps. The temple games weren't too close either. The Purple Parrots were clearly the dominating team at that point.

Now for the temple run...which had a rather easy layout. True enough, the crew made the team pass through seven rooms, but they were relatively easy to pass through - with the Treasury of the Monkeys and the Catfish Cove basically the only challenges that had to be completed. Anyhow, the saddle was one of the largest objects on the show, and it was quite impressive for Emily to bring that out via the Anaconda's Sanctuary instead of taking the high road. Honestly, this was one of the least entertaining victories I've seen with an easier path and a very average team. I'd rate it only a five on a scale of 10, with 10 being the highest. =/

NOTES: The door between the Anaconda's Sanctuary and the Wildebeasts' Hideout remained locked after Emily grabbed the saddle. My guess is that there was possibly a guard and a dead end hidden there, as the door upwards from the Treasury of the Monkeys actually opened. It is also one of four episodes to use the hop-from-platform-to-platform temple game.
