A "Legends" video game?
« on: November 15, 2011, 07:20:17 PM »
Hello, this is my first post, and 1 I am quite interested in. I own Little Big Planet 1 and 2, and I have created Legends based levels on it (if you have a PS3 and LBP 1 or 2, check them out, search for me at "XxAmazingredxX"  :D), and I also stumbled across a post here on the forums about creating a Legends video game. I found someone on YouTube (mrbenio) who is trying to bring Legends to the Wii.

Now here is where my post actually begins: what are your ideas for a Legends of the Hidden Temple video game?

For me, I would like to see a Legends game for the Wii, Xbox 360 (not Kinect) and PS3. The game will be compatable to whatever system you get it for.

Moat would be designed after all challenges from the show.

Steps of Knowledge, again the same.

Yet the same for Temple Games.

The Temple would be like how you see it on TV, watching the character from the outside of the temple.
Xbox/PS3-
R1-grab objects
O-interact with ladders, climbing walls
X-try doors with actuators, enter doors
Triangle- Cancel what your doing
Square- interact with other room objects (Ancient Warrior arms, Dark Forrest trees, etc)

Bonus stuff-
You could create rooms, layouts, artifacts, episodes, temple guards, temple games, moats, and teams. For the teams, you could play online or offline as your custom team in the place of an original team (ie; replace the Blue Barracudas with the Black Dragons).

Playing off or online, and winning certain parts (with online earning more), will earn you experience points, and after earning a set amount will unlock extra features, like materal for rooms, extra team logos, materal for making temple guards, materal for artifacts, and materal for moats and temple games. Online points, though, will add you to "Olmec's Leaderboard".

You can upload all created content to the game's server for others to download and play.

Other unlockables will allow you to get unlockable teams (again, will replace a original team). Unlockable teams will be Temple Guards, Kirk and Olmec, and Marc and Harvey (from Double Dare).

The menu will allow you to choose Online and Offline play, Creation Mode, Options, and Leaderboard. The best part, after you complete an episode, on or offline and depending on where you finish, you can replay that episode up to where you won/lost (ie; you lose at the Temple Games, you can replay the Moat, Steps, and Games, but no Temple till you beat the episode.)

That's my idea for a Legends game, I hope to hear all of your ideas!

P.S- I'm not the greatest with technology, but if any of you are, why not create a Legends game for the iPod/iPhone/iPad? Like I said, I'm not the most tech savy, but if someone out there is, please go for it!

That sounds like a great idea.. But there should be an option to switch between looking from outside the temple to actually being in the temple.

I was thinking that, but being able to see everything properly is my concern. Like in the rope swing in the Pit from Season 2, you come in from the Crypt and you walk out, but you can't tell how far you've walked out and drop into the ball pit below. But like I said, thats just my worry. If someone does create it, they could put an invisible wall and you press something to jump into the Pit incase an upper room door doesn't open. I also thought it would have a "never got canceled" feel if the camera wasn't first person, just to make it like your playing, but you see it as a regular episode.

Whew...well, my major is Web and Digital Media Development, so I have at least some of the skills you are looking for. Flash is a decent platform to use if: a.) you need interactivity and b.) you're inclined to use a more cartoon-y, 2D style (think Angry Birds, Robot Unicorn Attack, etc.). If the artwork was done in Photoshop and/or Illustrator, it could look pretty nice.

Unfortunately, programming and creating artwork take time, as well as generous amounts of patience. I wish I could help more, but I am about to graduate from college, move to California, and plan for my wedding next May/June. So....I don't think I would have the time to do this, at least not by myself. Then again, I want to go to grad school for Game Design (with a focus in Visual Development), so perhaps I could design some art assets after December. Who knows!

Another solution might be to use a program like Game Maker. I am not familiar with it myself, but you should be able to create basic games with little to no programming experience.  However, I am not sure if this would work for a mobile game. I'd recommend researching these tools if programming scares you (and rightfully so).

I hope this helps at least a little. My programming skills are so-so, but I am pretty decent at Photoshop and Illustrator. Let me know if you need any help down the road :P

Like I said, I'm not the most tech savvy, I get headaches trying to create stuff on Little Big Planet lol. I just posted this to see if anyone on the forums does know how to make a game for the iPod or a actual game system, even for a download for the computer. Rikarrae, thank you very much for the help, it helps more then you think, again... not tech savvy lol. I'm gonna look at that Game Maker when I get a chance in the morning. Thank you, and congratulations on your wedding!

The sobering and unfortunate truth is that, no matter what happens, eventually the success of any such game will be instantly negated by a cease-and-desist from the powers that be.

I would rather focus my efforts on projects that don't thus have zero chance of ultimate success.

(By the way, I do not use Game Maker.  I am learning PyGame and Pyglet.)

I know what you mean rjaguar3. I've gotten it from YouTube a few times cause of music, so I know how evil those powers that be.

But, hey, you never know..... Never say never.

Wii Homebrew could be a possibility.

If you have seen all 120 episodes of Legends, copy and paste this into your signature for all to see.
