The Orange Iguanas have been having terrible luck one episode after another, and this post showcases what caused them to carry the burden of the Samadhi:
(this is the text version)
-- As you've read in the previous episode, the
Brown Team— Emily and Mitchell from the fifteenth episode, The Moccasins of Geronimo— was the first team to be eliminated from the competition. With their departure, they left behind their Luck pyramid piece and a handwritten note to be read to the group.
Tara reads the letter aloud as evidenced by the following sentences— they forgive Blue for sending them to the Temple of Fate and tell Orange to hear each other's input to avoid something else negative that may result in elimination; it then reveals that Brown wants their friends to stay true to the alliance and they're rooting for Yellow and they consequently are given their piece. JD asks them about an alliance, and
David confirms that it was just an agreement that Yellow, Purple and Brown would work together against the opposite alliance. Regardless,
Danny and
Tara move into the lead with two pieces in comparison to the others' one and they are told today is the first Endurance Mission with another piece and the dreaded Samadhi.
-- As the contestants brace themselves for their first Endurance Mission, they're still continuing to get to know and feel content about their partner, for the most part— with the exception of the
Orange Iguanas, who still aren't getting along well. Already,
Becca thinks that
Tim's manipulating people to avoid getting the Samadhi or being sent to the Temple of fate again. But now,
Retina is aware that
Tim's making a few enemies quickly, which causes a shockwave of fear among the other contestants who believe he's trying to turn teams against each other; in a heated discussion, an irked
Retina warns
Tim to not screw up the game for her just because everyone wants him gone (despite the fact everyone feels sympathetic for her). On the other hand,
Danny feels outnumbered because he knows that everyone's put a target on his back because he and
Tara have a lead over them.
-- The ever-so-anxious teams all gather with JD to play their first Endurance Mission, which goes elimination-style (meaning that if a team gets something, they can eliminate another team that didn't acquire the thing); the pyramid piece just waiting for them is Teamwork, and let's not forget the dreaded Samadhi! As always, the Samadhi will hamper one team in the follow-up Temple Mission. The game starts, and the
Red Jaguars are eliminated first by the
Silver Snakes; not long after, the
Blue Barracudas are cut by the
Green Monkeys. On the third round, Yellow is eliminated by the
Purple Parrots; afterwards, the
Orange Iguanas are removed by the
Green Monkeys. The last team to be eliminated from the mission is the
Silver Snakes, who are thrown out by the
Purple Parrots. After a few more failed attempts, in a fantastic and shocking turn of events, the
Purple Parrots miraculously churn out a win, giving them another piece and the Samadhi!
-- After the mission,
DJ admits he had low expectations for Purple, and that the Samadhi will change things dramatically.
Taylor thinks that either Orange, Green or Gray will get the Samadhi for different reasons: Orange may get it because their teamwork is decreasing in quality rather than improving; Green or Gray may get the Samadhi because they were the last ones standing against Purple. Unfortunately for Purple, if anyone targets Gray, the other teams will become their enemies and pick on them to try to eliminate them. Meanwhile,
Shannon and
Jennifer both are very concerned about Purple's victory and they hope that by one of them making friends with
Eusinia, they can't get the Samadhi. Conversely,
Adam is comfortable that he won't get the Samadhi and thinks that Purple will try to beeline for Blue, Green or Orange. Meanwhile,
Taylor and
Candace bribe
Tim to tell them about their alliance with Purple and Yellow. Much to
Retina's chagrin, he informs them that they're targeting the stronger teams from the opposite alliance. A little while later,
Retina confronts
Tim about
Taylor and
Candace's bribe, and voices how frustrated she is with his attitude.
Tim just slightly jokes and smiles it off, but
Retina admonishes him by saying he needs to accept the game more seriously in terms of strategy and friendship.
-- David and Eusinia then talk by the porch swing to discuss who'll get the Samadhi.
David wants to go play it strategically by giving it to Green because he knows that Green wants to send him to the Temple of fate; on the other hand,
Eusinia wants to go by according to who her best friend is and is going for Red. But then,
David suggests that they give it to Orange in order to patch up their brittle partnership;
Eusinia says that she doesn't want
Tim to put the bull's eye on her back and potentially be double-crossed.
David explains that if Orange is weighed down by the Samadhi, there's gonna be less likely possibilities of them being one of the targets; that revelation is enough to make
Eusinia sway and hinder the team with the poorest teamwork.
-- That evening, the teams all meet by the dock (which is the rendezvous of this year) to hear who Purple will be giving the Samadhi to. When questioned by JD,
Jennifer admits that the teams have divided alliances— the
Blue Barracudas,
Silver Snakes,
Green Monkeys and
Red Jaguars against the other three teams that are working together as a group. JD then mentions that Orange has had some bad luck recently and asks
Retina how she and
Tim are getting along. She says that everyone's targeting him and wants him to just worry about himself rather than everybody else. Conversely,
Tim explains that he and
Retina don't relate to each other significantly and their outlooks are far too incompatible; everyone, even
Retina strongly agrees about that. When it's time give away the Samadhi, the outcome is no surprise— the
Orange Iguanas will be saddled with a handicap! The hindrance from the Samadhi that Orange has to combat with is a 25-second disadvantage for tomorrow's Temple Mission. On the walk back,
Tim is irritated that everyone's gunning for him and that he doesn't care about what Retina wants. On the other hand,
Retina has had enough of his narcissistic and stubborn attitude and just wants him to try harder in the next challenge.
Author's Note: I won't be writing quotes, but I hope you've enjoyed this and I'll return in a couple days for the next challenge!
