This is one of the episodes of my L.o.t.H.T. revival prediction. For more info, click here.

Episode 5: King Midas and the Whispering Reeds

(Camera moves through a thick jungle taking two wrong turns and finally revealing King Olmec)

Olmec: Legends of the Hidden Temple!

(Title card forms)

Olmec: With your guide, Kirk Fogg!

(Title card shatters)

Olmec: And here he is now!

(Kirk swings on a rope into the new Legends set)

Kirk: Thank you! Thank you very much! Nice to see you! Thank you Olmec! Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple. The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan temple guards. Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple. Which one are we gonna hear about today?

Olmec: The legend of King Midas and the whispering reeds.

Kirk: Oh, King Midas and the whispering reeds. Well, the legend is set and one of these six teams will have a chance to retrieve the whispering reeds. Will it be:

(Camera shows each team cheering)

The Red Jaguars?

The Blue Barracudas?

The Green Monkeys?

The Orange Iguanas?

The Purple Parrots?

Or the Silver Snakes?

They'll have to pass some pretty tough physical and mental tests, and in the end, only one team will earn the right to enter Olmec's temple. But first, the must cross the moat, and Olmec will tell them how they'll have to do it today.

Olmec: Before each of you is a wooden raft and a rope. When Kirk gives the signal, stand on the raft and pull yourself to the other side. Then it will be your partner's turn to do the same. If you fall off, go back and start again. When both players have crossed the moat, run over and hit the gong. (Kirk hits the Silver Snakes' gong) The first four teams to hit their gongs will go on to the next round.

Kirk: OK teams, are you ready?

Teams: YEAH!

Kirk: Are you ready Olmec?

Olmec: You betcha!

Kirk: On your mark, get set, GO!

Silver Snakes - 0:23
Orange Iguanas - 0:30
Green Monkeys - 0:45
Blue Barracudas - 0:54

We've got our four teams right here! They are: The Blue Barracudas, the Green Monkeys, the Orange Iguanas, and the Silver Snakes!

Kirk: As the quest continues, it's now time for Olmec to tell us about King Midas and the whispering reeds. Pay attention teams, because your knowledge of the legend will bring you one step closer to Olmec's temple.

Olmec: The most famous ruler in Phrygia was Midas, king of Pessinus. He cured his curse of turning whatever he touched into gold by dipping his hands in the river Pactolus.

Midas: Bah! I'm sick of riches and splendor! I'm heading off to the country. Maybe start worshiping Pan.

Olmec: Pan was the god of the fields and satyr. Legend has it that one day, Pan challenged Apollo, god of the sun and the lyre, to a trial of skill. Tmolus, the mountain-god, was chosen as umpire.

Tmolus: Fellers, I want a clean, fair game. Okay, Pan, you first.

Olmec: Pan blew on his pipes and, with his rustic melody, gave great satisfaction to himself and his faithful follower, Midas, who just happened to be present. But when it was Apollo's turn, only one stroke from his lyre brought everyone to awe.

Tmouls: I hereby declare Apollo the winner!

Midas: Now just a gaul-darn minute!

Apollo: Hey, who said that?

Midas: I did, bud! And this wasn't fair at all! Pan gave his heart and soul into that performance, and all you did was one flick off yer little harp!

Apollo: You must be that Midas guy I've heard about. Yo, I don't really like people who treat my musical awesomeness with such disrespect. Maybe if your ears were a little larger, you'd listen better.

Olmec: So Apollo turned his ears to that of a donkey's. The only other person who knew of this mishap was Midas' barber, who spoke the secret into a hole in a meadow. But later, that patch grew into thick reeds, whispering "Midas has donkey ears", and some of those reeds were brought to the Temple. Your quest is to find the reeds, and bring them back here.

Kirk: Thank you Olmec, now tell us, where are the reeds?

Olmec: The whispering reeds can be found in the Bamboo Forest.

Kirk: Teams, you're now standing on the Steps of Knowledge. In a minute, Olmec will ask you a question. If you think you know the answer, stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you. If you're right, you'll move down to the next level. But if you're wrong or ran out of time, I'll give the other teams a chance to answer. The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec's temple. Olmec, we're now ready for your first question.

Olmec: Midas was the king of…Camelot, Pessinus, or Elis?

(Male Silver Snake rings in)

Kirk: Silver Snakes

Male Silver Snake: Pessinus.

Olmec: That is correct!

Kirk: Nice job!

(Silver Snakes move down)

Next question.

Olmec: The curse that Midas put on himself was turning whatever he touched into–

(Female Orange Iguana rings in)

Kirk: Orange Iguanas

Female Orange Iguana: Gold.

Olmec: That is correct!

Kirk: Step down Orange Iguanas!

(Orange Iguanas move down)

Now you're on the board! Next question.

Olmec: What river did Midas dip his hands in to free himself of the curse?

(Female Green Monkey rings in)

Kirk: Green Monkeys

Female Green Monkey: The river Pactolus.

Olmec: That is correct!

Kirk: Nice job!

(Green Monkeys move down)

Next question.

Olmec: Midas, tired of riches, decided to move to the…Country, City, or Mount Olympus?

(Male Silver Snake rings in)

Kirk: Silver Snakes

Male Silver Snake: Country.

Olmec: That is correct!

Kirk: Come on down!

(Silver Snakes move down)

Now you're just one step away from the temple games! Next question.

Olmec: What was Pan was the god of?  Fields and satyr–

(Female Orange Iguana rings in)

Kirk: Orange Iguanas

Female Orange Iguana: Fields and satyr.

Olmec: That is correct!

Kirk: Nice job!

(Orange Iguanas move down)

Now you guys are one step away! Next question.

Olmec: What was Apollo was the god of? Forests and hills, darkness and shadow, or the sun and lyre?

(Female Orange Iguana rings in)

Kirk: Orange Iguanas

Female Orange Iguana: The sun and lyre.

Olmec: That is correct!

(Orange Iguanas move down)

Kirk: We've got our first team and it's the Orange Iguanas! We still need one more team. Next question.

Olmec: Who was chosen to referee the match between Pan and Apollo? Midas, Zeus, or Tmolus?

(Female Green Monkey rings in)

Kirk: Green Monkeys

Female Green Monkey: Tmolus?

Olmec: That is correct!

Kirk: Now you're just one step away Green Monkeys!

(Green Monkeys move down)

Who'll join the Orange Iguanas? Next question.

Olmec: What was Tmolus was the god of? Mountains–

(Female Green Monkey rings in)

Kirk: Green Monkeys

Female Green Monkey: Mountains.

Olmec: That is correct!

(Green Monkeys move down)

Kirk: We've got our two teams that are going head to head in the Temple Games! They are: The Green Monkeys! And the Orange Iguanas!

Kirk: Welcome back to Legends, now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest. But before we get started, I wanna talk to our team players. On the Green Monkeys we have:

Wesley: Wesley Marlowe. I'm 13 years old.

Kirk: It says here that you really enjoy whitewater rafting.

Wesley: Yeah, one time the raft flipped over. I was fine.

Kirk: Whoa! Hopefully that doesn't happen again. Now who are you?

Maggie: Maggie Bailey.

Kirk: And how old are you Maggie?

Maggie: 13.

Kirk: It says here that you like to cook.

Maggie: Yeah, I like to provide food for parties and stuff.

Kirk: Nice. Let's hear it for the Green Monkeys!

But let's not forget about the Orange Iguanas. Who are you?

Nathan: Nathan.

Kirk: And how old are you Nathan?

Nathan: 11.

Kirk: It says here that you spend most of your days on Minecraft.

Nathan: Yeah, I built a Minecraft Legends of the Hidden Temple.

Kirk: Well now you're on the show! How'd you find out about it?

Nathan: Well my oldest cousin grew up watching the original show and I enjoyed it too. That's why I built my Minecraft Legends of the Hidden Temple.

Kirk: Nice. Now who are you?

Trisha: Trisha.

Kirk: And how old are you?

Trisha: 12.

Kirk: It says here that you like to draw caricatures.

Trisha: Yeah, I drew caricatures of me and my family. I'm thinking of doing one for you.

Kirk: I'd love to see it! Let's hear it for the Orange Iguanas!

Why don't you girls get set up for the second temple game over there and guys get set up for the first one here. In the temple games, teams are competing to win Pendants of Life. The winning team will need those pendants to protect them from the dreaded temple guards as they make their way through the temple. There are three temple games, and Olmec will tell us about the first one.

Olmec: For Pan's performance, he used a pan flute to make his music. Before you is a two-sided wall with knobs sticking out. When Kirk gives the signal, climb up one side the wall, placing musical notes on the way. After putting one up, come back down and start again with another. The player with all five notes on the wall, OR the player furthest along in 60 seconds wins!

Kirk: Alright, players get in position, let's put 60 seconds on the clock! On your mark, get set, GO!

Wesley - 5 (0:17 Remaining)
Nathan - 2

Kirk: That's it! Green Monkey got all five of his notes; Orange Iguana got two of his notes; he kept dropping them! That means the Green Monkeys get a half a Pendant of Life! Orange Iguanas can catch up in the next game; it's worth a half pendant. Olmec, tell us about it.

Olmec: Back in ancient times, mortals continuously prayed to their deity to earn their support and favor, and now it's your turn. You are at the base of a mountain full of holes. When Kirk gives the signal, climb up the mountain with your offering by placing your pegs in the holes. Once at the top, place your offering on the stone slab, then carefully make your way back to the bottom. The first player to complete this task, OR the player furthest along in 60 seconds wins!

Kirk: Alright, players get in position, let's put 60 seconds on the clock! On your mark, get set, GO!

Maggie - Finished (0:32 Remaining)
Trisha - Half Done

Kirk: That's it! Green Monkey got down first while the Orange Iguana was half done. That means the Green Monkeys get another half Pendant of Life! The Orange Iguanas still don't have a pendant, but they can catch up in the next game which is worth a full pendant. Olmec, tell us about it.

Olmec: Midas cured his curse of the Golden Touch by dipping his hands in the river Pactolus. Before you is a ramp, and at the top are three faucets. When Kirk gives the signal, make your way up the ramp and turn on a faucet to release golden Pactolus river water, then slide back down. That will be your partner's signal to proceed. The team with all three faucets turned on OR the team furthest along in 60 seconds wins!

Kirk: Let's put 60 seconds on the clock! On your mark, get set, GO!

Green Monkeys - 3 (0:36 Remaining)
Orange Iguanas - 2

Kirk: That's it! The Green Monkeys turned on all three faucets while the Orange Iguanas turned on two. That means the Green Monkeys get a full Pendant of Life, giving them two pendants! The Orange Iguanas didn't get any. The Green Monkeys are going to the temple!

Kirk: Welcome back! The Green Monkeys have earned the right to enter Olmec's temple. But before they get started, Olmec's gonna give them some information to help them retrieve the whispering reeds.

Olmec: You could start by running up the stairs to the Crypt! Grab the book from the skeleton and pass into the Pit of Despair. Here, you must choose your next path. You could race up to the King's Storeroom, smash the clay pots and find the key that could take you down into Medusa's Lair. Place the snakes in Medusa's head and pass into the Room of the Ancient Warriors. Place yourself in the correct armor and open the door to the SHRIIIIIIINE of the Silver Monkey. Assemble the statue and you may be headed toward the Room of the Secret Password. Find the tablet with the correct inscription and shout it out to open the door to the Pharaoh's Secret Passage. Slide down the tunnel to the Quicksand Bog where you could smash to the Dark Forest. But beware of the Temple Guards that may inhabit the trees. Find the key in the tree, and you'll enter the Bamboo Forest. If you escape, you could gain entry to the Throne Room. Sit upon the Throne of the Pretender, then race through the pit, CLIMB through the Ledges, race down the stairs and back through the temple gate. The choices are yours and yours alone. You won two pendants in the temple games. Who's going first?

Maggie: I am!

Olmec: Very well, Maggie. When Kirk gives the signal, you'll race through the gates into the temple and make your way towards the whispering reeds. Hidden inside the temple are Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. You can trade your pendant for an extra life and go on. BUT if you're caught without a pendant, you will be taken out of the temple, and it'll be Wesley's turn to enter and try his luck. If you can reach the whispering reeds all of the doors of the temple will instantly unlock and the Temple Guards will vanish. Return through the gates with the whispering reeds in three minutes and you will both be handsomely rewarded and here's how:

Dee Bradley Baker:

First, you're both going to get…an Epiphone ES-339 PRO electric guitar. Experience a wide variety of tones, rich harmonics, and long sustain with the ES-339 from Epiphone.

If you can grab the reeds before three minutes is up, you'll also receive…Northwest Territory Grand Canyon 20' x 12' tent! With its grand spacious cabin comfort design, the Grand Canyon 12-person tent feels more like a house than a tent. From Northwest Territory.

And if you get the reeds out of the temple before three minutes is up, then you'll both be going to the White Mountains! You'll stay at the Mountain Club on Loon Mountain in Lincoln New Hampshire. New England's most accessible big-mountain skiing and riding features a 2,100-foot vertical drop and 61 trails across three peaks. Features exceptional terrain variety for the entire family, including a full progression of award-winning terrain parks.

Kirk: They wanna go to the White Mountains! Well, let's get started here. Olmec, lower your gate!

(Olmec moans gutturally while the gate lowers)

Kirk: Get in position. Mouthpieces in. Put three minutes on the clock!

(Timer bangs down)

Kirk: On your mark, get set, GO!

(Temple run music starts and HUD moves in on screen)

Maggie heads down into the Ledges (2:57) and heads for the lower door. She opens up the Pit of Despair (2:50) and heads across to the Throne Room. She opens up the Throne Room (2:45), enters, and sits on the throne (2:39). Once she got up, she tried opening the Bamboo Forest until Kirk said she could go up into Medusa's Lair. She climbs up (2:27) and starts putting the snakes in Medusa's head. Once the fifth snake was placed (2:08), the Room of the Ancient Warriors opens. Maggie enters the room and encounters a temple guard (2:03)! She gives up her pendant and tries the first armor which doesn't work and then the second one which opens up the Shrine of the Silver Monkey (1:56). She assembles the silver monkey step-by-step and opens up the Dark Forest (1:43). She climbs down, tries the first tree which has no key and then the second which does. She opens up the Bamboo Forest (1:25), enters, and makes her way through the bamboo to the reeds. She grabs the reeds (1:10) and makes her way back through the Throne Room, the Pit of Despair, the Ledges, and out (0:46)!
