I would talk to someone that is experienced in this kind of thing or has gone through something like this. I haven't gone through anything like this, so I honestly can't give any advice other than talk to someone who specializes in what you're going through right now.

I really hope everything comes out okay and that your friend doesn't do the unthinkable. Your friend is definitely in our thoughts and prayers. Just continue to be supportive to him.
