Rate the Temple - Season Three
« on: May 19, 2013, 05:48:52 PM »
Just like the previous rating for Kirk Fogg, I want to hold a poll everyday for the temple in each of the three seasons. Just like we always do, everyday I will hold a daily poll where you can rate the temple on a score of 1-10. For this rating thread though, I want everyone to rank the ACTUAL temple and not really the temple runs. Some things to keep in mind while you vote could be temple rooms, scenery, room objectives, and the layout of the temple in general.

PREVIOUS RESULTS:
Season One: 3.50
Season Two: 7.80
Season Three: 8.60

First one up is the Season 1 temple. Once again, please try to vote for the actual temple itself and not the temple runs from S1. This poll should be interesting and I have a feeling we will see mixed results.  :!:  :mryellow:

I gave the S1 temple a score of a 3. This was easily the weakest or worst looking version of the temple. The Season 1 temple just looked so bland and bright. It didn't look like an ancient temple at all and there was hardly any scenery at all like the later seasons. It felt like every single room of the temple felt empty due to the lack of props. And the props they did add were pretty lame. *Cough Skeletons in Dungeon cough*

The rooms of this season were very bad too. I mean did they really go through 9 different layouts filled with rooms? And the rooms they did use were either hardly ever used (Bamboo Forest, Spider's Lair, Room of Fallen Columns) or no one ever really completed them (Room of Golden Idols, Torch Room). It's hard to keep track of all the rooms of S1 since there was so many. And most of the rooms were just hit the actuators that served no purpose. And don't get me started on the garbage like the Treasure Room and Dungeon. The only real good rooms from this season were the Tomb of the Ancient Kings and the Shrine.

The temple games was pretty laughable also. At least in later seasons they actually literally made a temple gate. Otherwise, the S1 temple was the version of the temple. Too bland, too many room changes, too many useless rooms, and the whole temple was way too easy.

Yeah, I'm going to have to give Season 1 Temple a 3. It felt like the Shrine of the Silver Monkey was the only challenging room in the whole season. It had way too many easy and lame rooms like the Heart Room, Treasure Room, and Dungeon . Plus the producers went way too crazy with dead ends that threw teams off.

Temple games? :P

Anyways, I'm gonna give the Season 1 temple a 4. Way too bland and the rooms were too easy. I honestly don't know how they even got through Season 1 with all the room changes and faulty doors. I sort of liked how the S1L1 temple looked, how golden-y and rather dark it looked. But other than that, it was mostly just hit the actuator rooms and no interesting scenery whatsoever.

And the Season One temple finishes with a lowly 3.50. No surprise there at all, it was easily the lamest form of the temple on the show.

Next one up is the Season Two temple.  :mrsilver:

I gave the Season Two temple a score of an 8. This temple was a MUCH better improvement over the S1 temple. The producers during this season got many things right that were flawed from last season. The temple actually looked like an ancient temple and the darker colors made the temple more serious looking to. The temple rooms introduced during this season were a step up from the previous season. In fact, some of the best rooms were introduced in S2 - Dark Forest, Crypt, King's Storeroom, Room of the Secret Password, and the Jester's Court. The scenery was also nice during this season - more foliage, props laying around the temple, and the fog was a nice added touch. And the new temple gates and Ledges entrance was also a nice addition to.

On the downside though, the S2 temple wasn't exactly that difficult either. The whole bottom floor of the temple up until the Jester's Court arrival was still very simple and wasn't any different from S1. And I really wish some of the rooms from S1 did not return either like the Heart Room, Swamp, and Throne Room. At least these ones should be replaced a lot earlier than they should've. And the upper corner rooms were pretty lame too (Lightning Ball and Viper's Nest). But overall, this version of the temple was a huge step up from S1. Definitely the better version of the temple, if not the best.

I gave Season 2 an 8, for the same reasons. It was a neat looking temple, especially the S2L4 temple. But yeah, the very early Season 2 temples were way too easy. If it weren't for that, it probably would've made some of those wins a little more respectable.

Yeah, I liked the S2L4/L5 version of the temple best. Although I liked the L5 version better though because Medusa's Lair was not in that one. I always wondered why they kept the Mine Shaft the whole season. I mean they couldn't find another objective for this room? Even if it was another elevator? I didn't mind the Mine Shaft too much, but it overstayed it's welcome for too long.

Also, why would you bring the Heart Room back?

Since Medusa's Lair (and the Room of the Mandarin Hand for that matter) were a late shipment? ;)

I am going to move onto S3 temple now. The Season 2 temple finishes with a score of 7.80.

Give me a couple of minutes to update the poll for S3. ;)

I am going to give the Season 3 temple the same score as I did for S2 - an 8. The temple has definitely changed a lot from the first season of the show to the third season. Hell, the temple changed a lot also between S2 and S3. The temple felt larger and actually like an ancient temple. The temple was filled with props in every nook and cranny and it was fun to see what new prop that you can find while watching each episode. The rooms introduced in S3 took the best from last season and added some good ones of their own too. They finally got rid of the lame elevator in the far corner of the room and actually made it required to complete the top corner room in order to enter the room below. That is one thing they got right. The whole temple in S3 was a unique challenge and none of the rooms aside from the Ledges had any actuators.

On the downside though, I felt S3 should've switched up the temple a little bit. I mean would one layout change have hurt them at all? They had some good ideas for rooms this season, and it would've been interesting to see what they came up with. And some of th erooms were kind of tiring to see like the Quicksand Bog and Headless Kings. And many of the rooms felt cramped also because they tried shoving so many things into them. Also, I kind of missed how players had choices to enter different paths. This wasn't incorporated much in S3 either. But overall, I like this temple a lot and if the show ever made it to S4, I am sure it would've been even better!  :mrred:

I gave it an 8 as well. This was the best the Temple ever looked but it never changed.

And the S3 temple ends with the highest score of 8.60! No surprise in the final results at all either. The Season One temple was by far the lamest and worst version of the temple on the show. Boring and bright, too many room changes, too many waste of space rooms, most of the rooms were too easy, no props were just some of the problems with this version of the temple. It was hard to take it seriously. The temple definitely improved in the later seasons, and most of the memorable portions of it were from S2 and S3. While I don't have any preference between the S2 and S3 temple, no surprise to see the S3 one most popular.

Overall, I agree with the rankings. Honestly, the only good thing that came from the S1 temple was the Shrine.  :mrsilver:

Season 3 huh? I thought for sure Season 2 was gonna get the highest score. Especially since the Season 3 temple never changed at all. Oh well, good to know Season 3 ranked the highest. And I agree TRJ, the best thing that came from Season 1 was the Shrine. :P
