The pendant splits, the camera zooms out from a pile of twisted wood lying in some plants near the Moat, and then we fade to Kirk and the two teams.
“Welcome back to Legends,” says Kirk, standing in front of The Tiger’s Den with the two remaining teams. “Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest… so before we get started, let’s meet our teams. On the Green Monkeys, we have Andy. You say your favorite subject in school is science, but you’re also a break dancer—tell me about that.”
“Uh, I started taking lessons when I was eight, and now I break dance in… competitions… and… stuff like that,” explains the tall boy with light green eyes and contrasting dark brown hair.
“I hope you haven’t broken anything,” jokes Kirk, turning to Andy’s much shorter partner, a skinny girl with blond hair and clear blue eyes. “And also, we’ve got Kylie. It says here that you like to draw and write, but also that you absolutely love animals. Why’s that so?”
“Um, well,” she begins, “my family used to own a ranch out in the countryside, so…”
“Oh, I see,” continues Kirk. “And do you have a favorite animal?”
“Mm… probably a horse,” replies Kylie. She stops and smiles.
“Okay, let’s hear it for our Green Monkeys!” shouts Kirk. The audience cheers along with the team before Kirk continues.
“And on the Orange Iguanas,” he says, as he turns to the boy on the Orange Iguanas, short with pale skin and short blond hair, “we have Kevin. Now it says that you like playing baseball and basketball, but also it says that you’re writing a comic book—tell me about it.”
“It’s kind of a futuristic kind of comic,” he explains. “It’s sort of a dystopian kind of thing.”
“Sounds very interesting,” comments Kirk, moving on to the last player, a redheaded girl with stringy hair, big eyes, and freckles. “And over here, we have Andrea. You say that you love music, singing, and dancing… but you also do track and field. Tell me about that.”
“Uh, yeah, I’m on my middle school’s track and field team,” says Andrea.
“Do you have a favorite… or best event?” asks Kirk.
“Yeah, the 4 x 400 relay,” she replies.
“All right, sounds good,” remarks Kirk. “Let’s hear it for the Orange Iguanas!” The audience once again cheers with the team, stopping to let Kirk dismiss the players.
“All right, ready to play?” cheers Kirk. The players all shout and cheer in response. “Okay, why don’t you all go get ready for your games, and I’ll explain what’s gonna happen.” The players walk off-camera in different directions to let Kirk face the camera, now alone in front of Olmec.
“In the temple games, teams are competing to win Pendants of Life—” Kirk grabs a pendant out of his pouch and holds it up to the camera. “The winning team will need those pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded Temple Guards, as they make their way through the temple. There are three Temple Games, and Olmec is gonna tell us about Temple Game #1.”
Olmec explains:
“Buffalo Bill’s shows, like any stage show, needed props and costumes to be good. Today, you’ll be collecting some of the props for one of his shows. When Kirk gives the signal, crawl out and grab a cowboy hat, crawl back, and then put it in your basket. On your trips, you must avoid the swinging obstacles. The first team to collect all four hats, or the team that’s further along at the end of 60 seconds… wins.”
“That seems like a lot of trouble just for some costumes,” comments Kirk. “All right, 60 seconds on the clock!”
The clock slams down into the corner of the screen. “On your marks, get set… GO!” On this word, the sandbags above the pathway begin to swing, and the players begin to edge slowly out. “All right, Orange Iguanas off to an early start,” commentates Kirk, as we see Kevin reaching out to grab the hat and then quickly dropping down to avoid a sandbag. “Ooh, nice move by Kevin there… Green Monkeys also got their first hat, now they’re coming back…” After less than 10 seconds into the game, both boys are already scrambling out to get their second hats… but Andy gets hit by a sandbag. [0:46] “That gives a chance for the Orange Iguanas to take the lead,” explains Kirk, as Kevin grabs his second hat. “And they do! Here he comes…” Kevin drops his second hat in his basket, and begins to head out for his third—but is knocked by the first swinging sandbag, having to crawl back to the start. “… oh, but the Green Monkeys got hit too!” exclaims Kirk, as Andy gets hit by a sandbag just before he can grab his second hat. With 23 seconds left, Kevin grabs his third hat, but Andy only grabs his second a few moments later. “Orange Iguanas doing good…” narrates Kirk. “OH! He got hit!” [0:15] With just a few seconds left, Andy finally gets a second hat into his basket, but Kevin manages to scramble to his third hat, grabbing it with nine seconds remaining. “Oh, just a few second left—can he make it…?” With time running out and the audience counting down, Kevin makes a mad dash for the end… “Time’s up!” announces Kirk—but Kevin just manages to drop a third hat into his basket a second before!
Kirk runs over to the start lines, as Andy returns to join him and Kevin. “All right, nice job, there,” he praises, grabbing the baskets and placing them in front of himself. “Let’s count the scores…”
Kirk peers into the basket marked with the green tag first. “The Green Monkeys had… one… two hats, and the Orange Iguanas had… one… two… he got this one before time was up, so he got three hats—the Orange Iguanas get the half Pendant of Life!” He gives Kevin a high-five as the audience cheers.
“The Green Monkeys can catch up in the next game, though,” reminds Kirk. “It’s also worth a half-pendant. Olmec, tell us about it.”
Olmec narrates:
“Cowboys were a staple of the Wild West, and every cowboy knew how to ride a horse. Today, you’ll be riding the wildest horse in the West—our giant spinning horse. When Kirk gives the signal, hold on tight… because your horse will begin to spin. The player that’s still holding on at the end of 60 seconds wins.”
“It’s like horseback riding, but tougher,” explains Kirk. “Let’s put 60 seconds on the clock!”
The clock slams down into the corner of the screen. “On your marks, get set… GO!” The horses begin to rotate, with both players seeming to cling tightly to them, right against the poles. “Both teams doing well so far,” comments Kirk. “But it’s getting rough out there!” [0:50] The horses change direction, clearly shaking Kylie enough to make her begin to hang down from the horse. “Oh, Green Monkeys are losing their balance!” narrates Kirk. “Can she hold—NO!” With 44 seconds remaining, Kylie loses her grip and hits the airbag below to end the game.
“Aw, that was tough! Come on over here…” shouts Kirk, as he runs over to the horses, where the girls are catching their breath.
“All right, nice effort by both teams,” he praises. “Uh… Andrea here, though, didn’t fall—so the Orange Iguanas get another half Pendant of Life!” The audience cheers briefly before Kirk continues.
“So now the Orange Iguanas have one Pendant,” announces Kirk, “and the Green Monkeys don’t have any yet, but we’re going into our third and final game, and it’s worth a full Pendant. Olmec, tell us about Temple Game #3.”
Olmec continues:
“As a child, Buffalo Bill wanted to join the army, and would have to be trained to become a soldier. Today, you’ll be doing the same kind of training—out in the wilderness. Before you is a course through four areas: a hill… a lake… a jungle… and finally, the Tower. When Kirk gives the signal, the first player will begin at the first obstacle and tag their partner when they reach the end of it. Then you’ll do it again. When you reach the Tower, both of you must climb it and hit the gong at the top. The first team to reach the top of the Tower and hit their gong… wins.”
“This is for the Temple!” shouts Kirk. “All right, teams! On your marks, get set… GO!”
The camera zooms in on Andy and Kevin, climbing their way up the rock climbing wall on the front side of the Hill. “A quick start’s important,” reminds Kirk. “Looks like both teams got that down and pat—now it’s the transition between obstacles.” In 10 seconds, both boys are at the top of the Hill; Kevin taking a slight lead sliding down the other side, but quickly losing it as he stumbles to get to his feet. We then see Kylie and Andrea race forward to the Lake, rushing up the steps to the deck. “There they go, into the water!” shouts Kirk, as Andrea simply dives right into the water and swims across, while Kylie climbs into the water and begins to wade instead. “Ooh, Orange Iguanas, blazin’ across that Lake!” Andrea makes it quickly across the water, jumping out of it dripping wet, but much farther ahead than her opponent, who is only about ¾ the way across the Lake at that point. “All right, now the Orange Iguanas are going into the Juuuuungle!” narrates Kirk. Kevin dives into the Jungle, keeping himself low in the elastic cords, crawling his way through alone. “Green Monkeys are really gonna have to catch up…” Andy also dives into the Jungle, scrambling through its lower portion—but Kevin is already rolling out of it, and getting to his feet. “Now they have to climb the Tower, and that’s always hard,” explains Kirk, as Kevin runs over to Andrea and they begin climbing up the Tower, spiraling around it as they follow the footholds in the column. “I think they’re gonna make it…” predicts Kirk, as the camera slowly zooms in on the top of the Orange Iguanas’ Tower, with the team out of view for a few seconds as they near the top… but emerge from the bottom of the platform, and run around it to hit their gong!
“That’s it!” shouts Kirk, as the Green Monkeys stop in their tracks ¼ of the way up their Tower. “Stop right there—it’s over, all right…” He runs over to the base of the Green Monkeys’ Tower to announce the final results.
“The Orange Iguanas made it up first,” he says, “so they get the full Pendant of Life. That gives them two; the Green Monkeys didn’t have any… The Orange Iguanas are going to the Temple!” Andrea and Kevin hug in celebration at the top of the Tower before we segue back to Kirk and the Green Monkeys below.
“The Green Monkeys gave it a great effort too,” he then reminds. “They’re not going away empty-handed. We’ve got a great gift for them as well, and here’s what it is.”
Dee reads the prize:
“It’s $100 worth of Toys ‘r’ Us Geoffrey dollars! A great gift idea, because they’re good as cash at any Toys ‘r’ Us store in the U.S.A.!”
Kirk is seen standing on the top of the Orange Iguanas’ Tower, with the excited team. “Let’s see if the Orange Iguanas can make it through Olmec’s Temple,” he says, “retrieve The Wild West Hat of Buffalo Bill—right after this!” A jib camera flies past Kirk and the Orange Iguanas, who all wave at it, and then heads past them across the Moat. The titlecard appears, and then we fade to commercial.
